on well then let's [ __ ] our friendship we got to talk about Sonic plot oh I can fly because I have tails oh this is wonderful this is already my favorite Sonic game do you remember do you remember in Sonic whatever what the hell was it yeah I remember it like it was yesterday Sonic super the one where we made Fleur getting forces yes about plurp danken Stimac flirtin Squire the third sorry Junior do you remember when you held hands with Sonic and and ran oh yeah yeah like you your character and we we must have commented something along the lines of like my god every this is every furries freaking jury it was my freaking dream the okay mine too but I'm a big old furry so obviously ah damn just full-on leaning into it now huh you know what I decided to embrace it I talked to my friend my friend blam who you know very well go and and I was like man again it was because of the the night runner video which was really the only time I legitimately got bummed out that everyone was saying I was a furry just because I wanted the animators and the big the video to get the attention and so I talked to my friend blam about it and he was like nah dude great community very open very accepting and you know you love that [ __ ] right so that's it I'm single furry now this is true also like I don't know I feel like you you because like the narrative work because it's like oh there's just a random music video on game grumps like that's weird but because it's like like kind of a furry video it looks sort of makes sense it connects everything yeah so everyone's like Oh neat like this totally you know they're not like what is this I don't get this I said that totally makes sense I think that helped it in a way despite the fact that every comment was danza furry I'm definitely over it got more things going on the world yeah exactly yeah exactly but it's like you got more eyes on it just the comments just don't read the comments I mean that's just the rule of thumb yeah well that's a good rule for life yeah exactly the super sad one where he finds his fossilized dog yeah that's the Hachiko episode hi chica what is hot Chico mean that's the real dog that that story is based on what that's a real story that happened no yeah that makes it even sadder what are you talking about there is this so there was like a like a Japanese I don't remember he's like a businessman or something anyway he he had this dog was adorable like Shiba and he would it would walk to work with him every day to the to the train and then he would get on the train and then his dog would like wait for him to get off the take to come back and right one day he went to work and he like suffered like some heart complication or something and died and so never came back so the dog just every day went to the train station until for his owner to come back oh god yeah so there's a statue of Hachiko it should be a station oh no we're other people nice to the dog I hope yeah he got adopted and like that there was somebody that took care of them and but every day he would still go to the train station and we [ __ ] uh I'm a dog owner myself and dear God like they are just pure love and so sweet and innocent oh I mean that's what's so wonderful about them is they're just like nothing but unconditional love yeah and innocence you know what else we watched that was super amazing I think I've told you that I'm watching all the Disney movies front to back yeah starting with snow snow white all in order it's how you're supposed to lay out you're watchin Disney movies to where you're supposed to live try to try to stay focused here we just got to the 90s like the 90s Disney Renaissance yeah dude him we got to Beauty and the Beast holy [ __ ] what a movie oh yeah wasn't that the first computer animated scene well Black Cauldron was the first one to use elements of computer stuff and then there was a little bit of it in like Oliver and company but Beauty and the Beast is the first one where it's totally like there's no animation cells it's all done on a computer Oh what really I mean it's still it's still painted it's still hand-drawn but like on screens oh I was talking about the the ballroom scene like then the environment is completely 3d animated or whatever yeah that [ __ ] was amazing I don't know how they did that even now I don't know how did they did that well thank you Aaron is that I mean that was do you watch like Marvel movies and you're like I don't know how they did this like every time but I mean like in 1991 oh okay yeah it's just it's incredible because think of the computers we had in 1991 yeah they were pretty [ __ ] that was when modems were like yeah yeah and we were like my god the sound of the future I love the sound of technology it's like music to my ears [Music] what it is you couldn't you can I the phone dude you can can make a phone call all your parents like I'm going on the Internet yeah do you remember do you remember being on like AOL and like in a chat room with a girl that maybe you liked but would never meet or see or look at and or questionable if they are actually a girl of course who knows and and your mom would pick up and you could hear voice like hello hello and you really know and then you'd get disconnected and you'd be like yeah man what the [ __ ] I don't know what we're sort of using this episode as our sacrificial lamb to get used to this format of recording because it really is very different in a lot of ways very very different very strange but like it's fun what were you saying about this is the this is the situation we're doing right now testing it oh yeah thank you oh that's what that's what I was gonna say something the effect of just my brain is fully registering that this is a ridiculous sonic game just like all the others oh yeah I mean I'm really like I'm I got to say I'm not having oh there we go that was my first my first real issue we're not having weird problems we're stupid [ __ ] just runs into a wall and the guy kind of falls off and then comes back for no reason it's basically it's just tails saying like very obvious [ __ ] and occasionally asking knuckles to do all the work knuckles can you open the door for us can you break its their punches can you you're wrong Wow look at you strong can you hold me in your knuckle ER m-- z-- can you hug me in like your balls your fists balls can you paddle me with your big knuckle balls why are we keeping a Verona go huh and they each have their own abilities so sonic is typical Sonic with his stupid this and then this super yeah like it's just like and now you're on another part of the screen and it's rising and he uses he apparently uses Sonic and Tails as weapons with this [Laughter] okay and then and then when he does this then I can like throw them I guess it's like I'm like charge them up and then I can spin it around and we can do like a power dive you can do like this like like this is beautiful you guys it's like when you're doing like the practice for skydiving friends hold my hand and then he like immediately throws them as weapons across the room reviewers were like this [ __ ] red [ __ ] too stupid you just plug the whole stage it's like to say to that true dude I think this is gonna go really well I'm just saying now that like we're apart and you can't see me pull out my phone for my like fart sound board on my I can just be like all the time dude it's all the same to me you know cuz like you know if you're next to me cuz I still don't see you pull it out but when you press it like a point it sounds like phone audio but right / cause it's being like you know bit crushed over the internet so it just said right what the same as any other audio I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship that one's like that one's called fart with reverb it's like if you were to really like drop one in a church you hear the decay on that [ __ ] whoa sorry oh my goodness you could just do that all day and I would just keep laughing at it no matter what that would be like remember we talked about if we had like a morning radio show like Danny in the Raptor like it would it would definitely be non-stop fart board fart sound board antics yeah I would definitely want like if we had that right I would want we need we need to get the like the one guy that's like the producer that's like in another room but he's still like part of the show you know he's always off in the day you know like it's like oh yeah cuz the radio shows there's like oh yeah here we were in the mic and we're gonna have those boys and it just kind of nervous what do you think Steve do this something about I know you I know you were doing a bit but there's something about Sonic and Tails could you do that one more time wait where Sonic and Tails are standing in front of the fan looking at the camera and this is just endlessly zooming back up like up and down in the background can you get oh is it just like a perfect moment yeah it's a little bit was so funny like I can't replicate it I'm loving this like skydiving thing though this is this is beautiful yeah absolutely I gotta say like you know for as much as much [ __ ] as Sonic gets and as much [ __ ] as I give some of you it's a it's it it truly is like very wholesome it's like this yeah three friends and there'd skydiving fun he ain't hurtin anybody yeah the power friendship even though like every Sonic but rock song is like I could do it on my own I'm the best nobody helps me and then all that's actually correct that's totally true Sonic doesn't give a [ __ ] do you want power speed or fly well trick surprise me I feel like that and also like I want something very specific would both be things that Sonic would say absolutely surprise me that's so sonic I'm gonna take speed that's so sonic you know what tails just for you I'm gonna take the fly one that's so sonic that's the clap oh my god Aaron who could have foreseen this my bad not from the beginning oh the beginning of this straight or whatever God you believe in it's okay man it's Sonic we can go fast in fact you got us yeah okay sweet you know what they say have to go fast have to go fast required to go speedy go quick he's probably said that to at some point like yeah probably right um actually he in the comics he says have to go quick much more frequently than got to go fast required to go speedily must make haste I love sonic it brings everyone together in beautiful ways i I can't believe you just said I love sonic dude actually you you've always said you love the character I love sonic like period that's the eyes look that's the thing is that I get a lot of I get a lot of flack for like Sonic related opportunities that come my way you know like you know like the cupcakes thing or like don't a Japan and play in the Sonic cupcake racing yeah yeah when the Sonic Twitter brought me an assload of cupcakes and then I ate them all oh but like and it's like man you should be given these two real Sonic fans and it's like you don't understand I am a huge Sonic Sonic so much and obviously there are people out there that love it way more than I do but the joy that Sonic brings me in all regards like I genuinely enjoy playing these these games even though I think they're terrible and I love the characters and I love the community it's not a community yeah fantastic just Sonic is art I can't believe this is the episode it took it took us self-quarantine - nice good to see you've learned your lesson I don't know what's happening I don't know what's wrong when I do that all I was gonna say was I like I like how it took us being completely question from any person including each other for us to finally do an episode where you say you love song I could not admit that I'm a furry dude man these are big these are big moments for game grumps right here big big woman yeah excuse me this this and it didn't follow the Rings and it just rolled me off the edge yeah hold gam level again you got like two rings and sonic looks like yeah and then you fell off the pretty sweet probably plays these other stupid characters leave this to me pump it up all the time what is he stuck he's stuck under the thing oh my god that wasn't even my fault sorry I I got really frustrated because that level was an absolute dog [ __ ] and [ __ ] okay and I am NOT taking that back and I'm not apologizing for that tape because that level was terrible okay and I went to the chaotix plotline I guess man the same damn level this is a waste of my time okay I needed I need to advance with the real characters of the game not these stupid fake-ass crocodile ass be as damn chameleon I don't give a donk why won't let me this stage is absolutely terrible this is the worst thing that's ever happened to me it's fun it's funny watching screamy annoyed Aaron and gentle podcast Aaron just like fight for control of your body I can't do well I don't want to I'm you know and this is gonna change very quickly but I'm being a little self-conscious of the fact that like this it's not real life and like when I scream something after a too long hiatus sanic Sega and Sonic Team are back with an original new installment Sonic Heroes seems to have gone back to the roots of the franchise in many ways oh really yeah most important of which relates to level design oh oh really the worlds are ultra entertaining unpredictable thrill rides yeah they sure are unpredictable I have no idea where this ball is gonna go despite how I'm hitting it in a deliberate path the game is faster than its Dreamcast ancestors and it's a lot prettier too I should hope so better hardware it's suck of it looked worse I didn't even whip did you see that what happened there what happened you can't excuse that you can't oh you know you just press the weird button you can't do that this is great it's great - it's great to see you the visual Spectre spectacle Spectre spectacle yeah like there's certainly plenty to enjoy about it I'd imagine it's very infuriating its lay though I feel like I'm like I'm losing my ability to function cognitively I am 100% on your level when it comes to that lake yeah don't attack sideways cuz you'll fly over the side you know what [ __ ] act forward I'm doing my team blasts oh there you Sun this level so here's the thing when I was complaining about the level where I said the people should fight me people were like you haven't seen anything yet so I guess awesome they're like worse levels but I don't know everything so far hasn't been like at like nearly as bad as that one no I thought the last two were quite charming the swampy levels the jungle one was pretty fun yes yes but fun with like quotation marks yeah it was like fun in a tolerable way I've hated things more it wasn't driving me nuts it wasn't making me feel bananas wow there's a lot of food analogies in our life I can't believe there's no shadow on this and maybe this is because I've been told by many many a sonic and game grumps fan that the ps2 version of Sonic Heroes is clearly inferior which I did not know going into us Oh super to compare to what the GameCube version or that got if I had known going into this then I would have been ten times more excited to play this version because that was a deliberate thing when we played the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed or whatever the [ __ ] yeah you know your enjoyment of games like this is completely dependent on expectations going into it if you're like oh this is supposedly the shittiest whatever like you're actually happy about it but if you don't know that going in you just it sucks it's very funny hey man life is all about expectations you know if you go in with low expectations you know it's it's easy to be like oh wow that was better than I yeah I agree that's why that's why sequels it's always tough sequels you know it's like I wanted to be as good as the first one it's like probably not gonna be no it won't be that's happened twice unless you're spider-man - spider-man - aliens Terminator - Godfather - yeah I the the frontlines the [ __ ] vanguard or a mask the game with Sonic teams first a multi-platform game which is why if you look at it from a design perspective all the levels are super flat and all the texturing is simpler than even Sonic Adventure 2 with much flatter colors and no real lighting effects it was so they could try to make it work and look the same on all the current gen consoles like I said before Sonic Team still wasn't the greatest at 3d stuff either and I believe it was an all new engine middleware so the game was buggy as hell especially the ps2 version which we are playing which had and has by far the most bugs the amount of bugs submitted by the testers was so immense that it eventually got to the point where management told them that if a bug does not prevent them from completing a level it wasn't to be considered a bug do not God so the only things they could submit eventually we're bugs which literally stopped the game from progressing if you could mash your way through a level it was good enough holy crap finally there was a showstopper bug the biggest bug which I think kept them from shipping the game for a while I'll never forget it because it really captures the true essence of the sonic cycle throughout the game there are doors which Sonic and team are supposed to use by use of supposed to open by use of switches but the bug was such that if you ran into the lock door at full speed Sonic would instead clip through the door but not into the area that was supposed to be behind it instead he would keep going running forever in a black nothingness which would never end whenever I think about that there's a certain level of existential dread which fills my soul almost like that's what these games are now sonic running forever and it can never end wow I love that person so cool of them to write to you yeah so there you go that's a little little insight on to the development of Sonic Heroes boy oh boy yeah what year was this man I don't [ __ ] know alright hold on I'll check what would you guess mmm yes - I don't even know and I'm so bad at this 2005 okay let's see 2003 well so close yeah Sonic Heroes is a 2003 3d platformer game developed by Sonic Team USA Sonic Team you uh sir you know it's weird whenever I think of like it because that's so close to 1990s you know like whenever I think of the nineties I think like man that's [ __ ] old I think about this and I'm like well isn't that old I've been playing this game for 13 levels now I still don't know what these [ __ ] keys do what keys you just collect like a golden key in every level I think has a golden key and really no [ __ ] clue what it does I don't think I even registered that you were getting keys oh yeah look at that there's one right there and they're like locked in these like cages and I don't know oh yes know what they do that is sounding familiar you want me to look it up my life a little mystery thing yeah the mysteries more interesting you know it's like it's like not seeing the shark in Jaws yeah that's true all set Star Fox thanks Falco you got it Star Fox thanks Pepe that's one of my favorites I want to hear another [ __ ] slippery ass word from your long tongue that voice made my dog look up she's like what is happening completely what are you so angry about buh yeah it's always better when like four people are doing it at this level really culminates you know it's like you using all the abilities of all the characters so quickly in sequence is that right yeah it really makes me feel like everything's coming together in the end that's good that's good right no I hate it it's stupid I hadn't thought of it like that it's like I'm making fun of the the trope of it I'm not like commending actually enjoying it yeah I mean if the game didn't have it it would be like wow this is terrible so like yeah yeah what is what is this what is this explain yourself I don't see where I'm going and in the atmosphere your hair is blowing so you know you're falling at an incredible rate but the hammer support that's landed in the game was like all right well now you just have like continued momentum off the cliff like I didn't do anything it's pretty dope I'm not gonna lie I can't [ __ ] do this man I can't [ __ ] do this man that would have been the 90s commercials it's the worst too because I'm so like listen I don't care who you are I don't care if you're the most hardcore Sonic fan in the world this shit's hot it's frustrating man like it's frustrating and you had this experience you did you had this experience and you're just forgetting it like I guarantee you you were like oh yeah like obviously not me going what but like you were like dang like looking sucks and and you're forgetting it you're letting it be in your rose-colored glasses you're just letting yourself forget so that you can be like in 17 years in 17 years since this game came out you you you it makes you think back to that time in your life from 17 years ago when there was no Backstreet Boys tour and life was simple and and that's what you love and I totally get it I totally get it absolutely man and and to say and like it's basically people have in the 17 years since this game came out people have had that chemical that post pregnant women get after they go through the extreme pain of childbirth yes to me forget about it that makes them forget and want to have another kid so I gotta play Sonic Heroes again but this meanwhile like you check a voicemail from yourself like a message later like don't no matter what I say don't play Sonic Heroes again wait wait what everybody doesn't understand at home though and I've said this a million times but I've never said it in this way before I am I love sonic nobody understands this I love Sonic I just know these games suck and I keep coming back to them like like that like but I just know they're gonna I'm not like oh but maybe I'm like no they're gonna suck but I keep coming back to them because there's something about them there's something so wonderful what's the one that everyone likes is it generations generations is pretty well liked yes and colors is that the other one yeah colors is still a little divisive but I think for the most part people view it positively so let's play those baby but that's no fun because then they're just boring because there's no still not great but games like this where they're just [ __ ] a mess is what's so funny about you Sega Bess as Sonic & Knuckles like sort through the atmosphere tails is nowhere to be found this is all knuckles is how my hands feel when I play this game oh dude that you've missed that exact jump in that exact way I am multiple times did I miss it did I miss it though I [ __ ] collided with the rail and fell through it and then I landed on the platform beneath did not hit a single button when I landed and the game decided at the direction I was going which was backwards by the way
