shapiro i've been looking at a lot of his stuff lately and recently i was sent a video called ben shapiro 7 myths of democratic socialism debunked sounds fun let's take a look so the first claim they make is the democratic socialism isn't exactly the same thing as socialism now they can never actually explain why right or cortes was asked this she was asked on national TV what is the difference between democratic socialism and socialism and she had no answer Bernie Sanders has been asked the same thing Tom Perez has been asked the same thing Hillary Clinton's been asked the same thing no one can explain the difference because there is no difference so we're 20 seconds in we've already got major problems first of all why would you even bring up that Hillary Clinton Clinton Clinton clan hahaha why would you even bring up the Hillary Clinton can't define democratic socialism she's not a Democratic Socialist her campaign was funded in large part by Wall Street she was paid $225,000 a pop to speak at places like Goldman Sachs Deutsche Bank fidelity investments Bank of America you know the who's who of criminal cocksuckers running Wall Street Hillary Clinton got paid about four times as much as the median American household income per year to make a fuckin you know speech multiple speeches to these crooked cocksucker companies and associations why were they willing to pay us much here's a hint it's not because she's a fucking Democratic Socialist Wall Street and big banks don't like Democratic socialists it's because she's always been soft on Wall Street she's always helped them skirt regulations and even made excuses for the banking industry in the wake of the 2008 market crash in one of those paid speeches by the way they funded her campaign they paid her millions for her speeches and they funneled millions through the Clinton Foundation and guess what they don't fill her coffers with dough because she's their enemy you stupid prick they kept her afloat on a sea of money because she's their friend compare that to Bernie Sanders or your crush of Alexandria occasio Cortes who took absolutely no corporate money for their campaigns you know what don't compare it because you can't there is no comparison Hillary is a corporatist puppet who dives like Scrooge McDuck in two big piles of special interest and corporate interest money Sanders and Cortes whether you agree with them or not they don't do that shit and as for this completely false idea that Sanders and Cortes have never explained what democratic socialism is that's just blatantly false both have been asked about it directly on several occasions and given cogent answers that anyone with a brain could grasp which explains why you missed it here you call yourself a democratic socialist how can any kind of socialist win a general election in the United States well we're gonna win because first we're going to explain what democratic socialism is and what democratic socialism is about is saying that it is immoral and wrong that the top one tenth of one percent in this country owned almost 90 percent almost owned almost as much wealth as the bottom 90% that it is wrong today in a rigged economy that 57 percent of all new income is going to the top one percent that when you look around the world you see if the major country providing health care to all people as a right except the United States you see every other major country saying to moms that when you have a baby we're not going to separate you from your newborn baby because we are going to have but we are going to have medical and family paid leave like every other country on Earth those are some of the principles that I believe in and I think we should look to countries like Denmark like Sweden and Norway and learn from what they have accomplished for their working people you don't consider yourself a capitalist though do I consider myself part of the casino capitalist process by which so few have so much and so many have so little by which Wall Street greed and recklessness wrecked this economy no I don't I believe in a society where all people do well that's just a handful of billionaires that's always a question how are we gonna pay for it war is very expensive too we never ask about that we only ask how we're gonna pay for things we're talking about taking care of people so GOP tax cut costs the United States four hundred billion dollars you know what you could have done with 400 billion dollars you could have forgiven every single federal student loan debt in America that's what you could have done with 400 billion dollars we want improved and expanded Medicare for all we want to ition for public colleges and trade schools we want a green new deal to address climate change I'm an idealist and my goals I'm an idealist of my vision and I'm very pragmatic about how I get there I don't believe that in a moral and wealthy America people should be too poor to live I find that to be an unacceptable state you can be too poor to see a doctor that you can be too poor to send your child to the school I actually give some options for their future and I want to live in a society that does not fail people's most basic needs to live and so that for me is my you know it's about dignity now to avoid confusion it should be noted that technically democratic socialism and social democracy are two different things historically Kile kolinsky has a great video on his secular talk channel getting into this but I'll link it in the description and here here's a little quick summary so democratic socialism in reality actually is post capitalist it's a post capitalism philosophy so in other words it doesn't coexist with capitalism it's not a mixed market economy it is post capitalists so what that means is social ownership of the means of production but what you see here is they're not describing that they're not describing a post-capitalist philosophy they're describing a system that coincides with capitalism so what they're defining and when I say they I mean MSNBC in this clip Bernie Sanders and many others what they're really describing is social democracy so social democracy is a heavily regulated version of capitalism it's a mixed market economy and it has strong socialist aspects in there so another way to talk about social democracy is welfare state ISM now I'm not saying that word as a pejorative nowadays the term you know welfare is used as a with a negative connotation I don't mean it that way at all in fact I quite openly support welfare state ISM and so the idea is yes you have a capitalist economy but you have socialist institutions mixed in there as well health care education you know you can have universal daycare and you take some aspects of capitalism and mix it with some aspects of social and you try to get the best of both worlds and another way to describe this is the Scandinavian model social democracy is the Scandinavian model and it's also what I describe as the furthest left you can go within the context of capitalism as soon as Bernie Sanders spoke about democratic socialism but describe social democracy that's it now the definitions kind of changed and now Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has been describing herself as a democratic socialist but again she's more of a social democrat and MSNBC is defining democratic socialism as social democracy and I get it man all you political junkies out there look at that and it annoys the shit out of you and believe me it annoyed the shit out of me for a really long time too but you just got to understand that unfortunately the reality is that definitions change political definitions change so democratic socialism in a modern American context is distinguishable from socialism in that socialism advocates for the eradication of all capitalism whereas democratic socialism advocates for well regulated capitalism and a beefed-up welfare state a mixed economy socialism is essentially when the workers revolt by putting the bosses head on a stick and saying we run the factory now bitch democratic socialism is the workers going to the boss and say hey we won't put your head on a stick but you're gonna treat us better and you're gonna pay us better if you don't see the difference there then I don't know what to tell you Ben go back to preschool and learn your fucking ABCs if that's not too challenging for you so that's the difference Ben do you get it now it's important to recognize the difference between these two things okay just because a country has some socialist programs does not make it a socialist country so for example Canada has socialized medicine Canada is not a socialist country Canada is a capitalist country with socialist medicine Eureka by Jove I think he's got it very good Ben you're not as stupid as I thought then again you wouldn't even be able to tie your shoes if you were as stupid as I thought democratic socialism is just socialism with a nice word in front of it right it's like how if you add the word sandwich to turn it it is still a turd sandwich if you add the word Democratic to socialism it is still socialism that was a weird analogy because adding the word turd to the word sandwich does completely change the meaning of either word a turd isn't a turd sandwich a sandwich isn't a turd sandwich I mean unless it is but usually sandwiches have like ham or turkey or roast beef or something other than like a turd so yeah those words mean something totally different when combined than they do on their own a sandwich isn't the same thing as a turd sandwich and democratic socialism isn't the same thing as socialism yeah yeah so let's define what exactly socialism isn't it's kind of important to define the term so we know what we're talking about so the basic baseline socialist definition is the the old ridiculous aphorism from each according to his ability to each according to his name that's not really a definition of socialism that's just an aphorism describing the philosophy underlying socialism it's like saying the definition of thriftiness is a penny saved as a penny earned no that's an aphorism about thriftiness not the definition of thriftiness the definition of socialism according to merriam-webster is any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods so democratic socialism as defined in the context of modern American politics does not advocate for the abolition of private property so it doesn't meet the definition of socialism this is really basic shit Ben I don't really understand why you need your hand held for this are you really so daft or you do you just think that your pea-brained audience is okay second folks on the democratic socialists left they claimed that democratic socialism is not in fact force because it's democratic right they use the word democratic see now it's not now two democracies and now it's not force anymore right just like the Republic of North Korea is actually a republic doesn't use force anymore as long as you just say things are what they are then they become those things right if you say that a man is a woman then he becomes a woman and if you say that a non Republic becomes a republic then it's a republic that's just the way that it works so if you say democratic socialism then the fact that somebody from the government is pointing a gun at your head to rob you that is not for us anymore now it's democratic right ah little s'matter of selective libertarianism from our good friend ben shapiro here here's my problem ben if you're gonna use the whole government pointing a gun at your head argument then you have to go all the way with that you can't say taxation is theft but I support it sometimes you know I mean you can say that but it doesn't make a fucking lick of sense if you come to the conclusion that taxation is theft then you really have two choices at that point you can either say well taxation is theft but it's a necessary evil for society so we have to just do it or you could say taxation is theft therefore I am an anarchist and I am opposed to all taxation for any reason because it's all theft and the government shouldn't take our money we should be able to keep all of our money and that's that so you can have those two options but you can't selectively be like oh you know things I don't like that the government pays for that's theft but things I like that they pay for that's okay doesn't make a goddamn like a fucking sense been no it don't this isn't to say that we a can't as citizens opposed how tax money is spent I mean I despise my money being spent on wars and bombings and bailouts of corporate America I despise my money being spent on the military industrial complex that funnels tax dollars into the pockets of gargantuan defense companies whose projects inevitably go past deadlines and over budgets and often result in useless tech that no one wants or needs but when I get upset about government spending I get upset about how the money is used not the very fact that it's collected in the first place if you're against tax dollars being used for universal health care and free College and things of that nature then say that don't fall onto a libertarian argument of taxation is theft because there's plenty of government spending that you're fine with and those taxes collected by the that those they're collected the same way I mean you can't just selectively be against which taxation oh no taxation is wrong now cuz I don't like this program what which brings us to the third claim that socialists make which is that socialism is fairer than capitalism it's a fairer more moral system this is the one that gets a lot of folks you know Bernie Sanders up there and he says this thing is it's so irritating Bernie Sanders his entire stick is he says things that are wrong with the world and then offers no solution but because they're wrong with the world people think that he's smart hey Bernie Sanders is not a smart human and when Bernie Sanders stands up there knee says it is completely unfair that's 1% of the people Oh 99 percent of the wealth and then he suggests that his solution is some pie-in-the-sky nationalization of everything on earth people say wow you know what he said there is you're right it's not fair that some people have three houses and some people have no house at all wouldn't be better if everyone had one-and-a-half houses right we'll just actually cut that third house right down the middle and sure there won't be a wall that actually protects us from the elements but at least it'll be fair that way what now people makes up charity and socialism charity is based on the principle that we ought to help people in need I agree we ought to help people in need that's why I give inside my religious community that's why conservatives get significantly more money to charity than people on the left it's why red states give more to charity than people in blue states people in blue states think they did their job when they paid their taxes people in red states know they still have a religious obligation in most cases to give money to the needy in their community and charity is about what I owe to you because I the money in the end doesn't really belong to me it belongs to God right that's what religious people think about charity the money belongs to God what now we're bringing your fucking imaginary friend into this look charity is wonderful but you're not gonna make sure every human being in this country has access to medical care housing and education through charity to guarantee that you have to build mechanisms to ensure it right into the political and financial structure of the country giving some cans of food you didn't want to the homeless shelter is good but making societal strides towards eliminating poverty and homelessness is great so you're right charity isn't the same thing as democratic socialism democratic socialism is better it's it's saying something about my job but socialism says that if I need something that creates additional rights in me charity is about my duty to you socialism is about your rights from me and what's weird about it is that those rights only accrue the less successful you become economically so right now I don't have a right to take your money but if I were to lose all of my money in a stock market crash then I would have the right to come and steal your wallet I fail to see how my economic status impacts my right to take your stuff it's exactly the same person now why exactly should my Rights change based on whether I am poor or whether I am rich is why I sort of like the biblical system that says the judges are not allowed to discriminate in favor of the rich or in favor of the pork socialism says precisely the opposite we're supposed to discriminate in favor of people who have been less successful financially this isn't just unfair by the way this is the essence of jealousy and greed I have less therefore I get to take your things democratic socialism is about everyone's rights and responsibilities it's about recognizing that we're all in the same boat and that we should all take care of one another it's about saying hey that person has no food let's feed him and we should all pay for that but the people who make more money should pay more that is they should pay a larger percentage and giant corporations many of which pay little to no taxes at all on their exorbitant profits should be paying the most of all assholes like ben shapiro always try to paint democratic socialism as being about free stuff Bernie Sanders comes out like I want to tax the millionaires and billionaires at 200% so we can give every liberal in America free cupcakes and complimentary lattes every morning when what Bernie Sanders and Alexandria or kZO Cortes and other progressives are really talking about is if someone gets sick they shouldn't go hundreds of dollars into medical debt I'm sorry hundreds of thousands of dollars into medical debt to get better no other civilized country has that if someone needs medicine they shouldn't be charged three thousand dollars a fucking pill because our government doesn't negotiate drug prices like every other country that's worth a shit on the earth if someone is a good student with a promising future continuing their education and becoming an even greater utility to society should not mean them taking on a mountain of student loan debt or keeping their fingers crossed for a fucking scholarship Ben Shapiro and his ilk are the first to wave the flag and say they love America but they sure don't love its people because they want us under a mountain of medical debt and student debt they want us working thankless jobs that don't pay enough to live let alone to pay down the mountains of debt they fight tooth and nail to keep on our backs to me folks like Ben Shapiro are not Patriots they are despisers of America and a poison in its veins right now Ben we're offering you a truce of democratic socialism that's the version of events where no one's head winds up on a stick keep pushing the people of this country and see what happens you conservatives like touting how many people Che Guevara killed don'tcha maybe you're not taking the right lesson from that because if you're scared of the force of the government I guarantee you're gonna be even less fond of what happens on the day that the people of this country get fed up once and for all with the rigged system of crony capitalism that you're batting for some say that day will never come well you better hope it doesn't bitch but me I feel it in the fucking air I mean don't just sense it thrumming like flammable gas all filling up the zeitgeist of the American subconscious only takes one fucking spark to set this bitch off and if you and your ilk continue to be the roadblock eventually the people are gonna batter through you like people should not be a source of fucking revenue education should not be a source of fucking revenue because when you hand prisons and doctors and colleges over to Capitol the results you get are for-profit prisons that lobby for more people to be in jail for longer sentences insurance companies and doctors that gouge patients and college degrees that cost more to get into than most people can ever dig their way out of 40 4.2 million people oh the fucking 1.48 to two trillion dollars in student loan debt in this country to me I look at that and say you know what that is that's fucking unacceptable these problems are screws and they need the screwdriver of socialism things that are non-essential like TV sets and ice cream and new stereo system for your car those can be handled by capitalism because capitalism does an okay job with those things people work for their money and they turn that money in for shit they want want but they shouldn't have to turn it in for shit they need other than through the contribution of their tax dollars now many of you guys watching might be saying that's too expensive well I think Bernie Sanders addressed that really well in his debate with lyin Ted Cruz yeah Trump was right about something a year or so back let's roll that clip real quick why don't we roll that clip can we get the fucking clip you have at various times including just now expressed the intermediate belief that the United States should look for to Denmark and the Scandinavian countries for inspiration of the vision yes where the country is going as you said as as was alluded to I grew up and I was born and grew up in Denmark and you know these are countries which where the government spends taxes and spends approximately twice the level of the United States and while I am very sympathetic to many of your spending proposals especially on the things you mentioned on early childhood and single-payer and the like I also know that these are countries that heavily tax everybody not just the rich people middle classes they have consumption taxes on everything of 20% so while I'm very sympathetic to what you say my sense is still that you would like to spend as a Scandinavian but not tax this one it's not great we you have the answer is it you raised some very good points when we talk about health care for example okay what my proposal would do is I'm sure you understand how much do you pay were the people in Denmark pay for health care when they go to the doctor there is an approximate the memo is about $10 copay for every ten dollars so how much do you pay when you go to the hospital if you have cancer god forbid and you went to the hospital how much would it cost zero Oh question zero and how much is preschool in the high quality preschool for the children in Denmark it would depend a little bit on the region of the country but I'd say in two or three hundred dollars a month two or three hundred dollars a month okay and what about college in Denmark our kids can't afford to go to college how much does it cost about a college in demo but in fact you get a government stipend to go to college in other words not only is it free they give you a stipend because they want to make sure correct me if I'm wrong that they take advantage of the wisdom of all of the kids they want to make sure that every kid in that country gets the best education he or she could have is that correct if you have the appropriate grade exactly yes yeah exactly all right so here is the point and your point is well-taken to provide quality virtually free childcare to provide free higher education to provide virtually free healthcare it costs money nothing is free taxes are high you're right but I would suggest that the average American would rather pay three thousand dollars more in taxes and see a five thousand dollar premium to a private insurance company disappear they will be better off in Denmark my guess is please correct me if I'm wrong probably the per capita cost of healthcare is half what it is in the United States is that a good guess approximately yes okay so the point is they are able to run a high-quality health care system probably better than ours at half of the cost because it's a public health care system but the answer to your point and it's a fair point nothing is for free but I believe in a kind of society which is different than Ted's does I want to see all of our people the young P well the old the poor the working-class be able to get the education they need the health care they need the job training they need does it cost money to do that it does but I believe at the end of the day that is the kind of nation that the American people would like to see us become yeah great point by Bernie their wood taxes have to go up to pay for the things I've been talking about this video to quote an even more obnoxious liberal than me of course but for the average American the amount of tax increase would be insignificant next to the money they'd save on medical care alone because every one of us is heading for some kind of health disaster these human bodies might be sometimes nice to look at and sometimes not but they certainly don't last forever why would anyone want to live in a country that massively financially penalize you for the inevitability of illness and socialism worth ninety five point seven billion so Bill Gates is worth the combined median income of about 1 million six hundred twenty-two thousand thirty four households by the way there are 46 point seven million people in this country who live below the poverty line which in 2014 was defined as a family of four with a household income of twenty four thousand and eight dollars that six thousand and two dollars per person which means Bill Gates is worth as much as fifteen million nine hundred forty-four thousand six hundred thirty-five people living right at the poverty line so Ben we're not talking about Bill Gates came in first and someone's mad they came in second we're talking about tens of millions of people living for a year on what Bill Gates probably spends on his silverware so fuck you for the very dishonest framing of the issue the income inequality between you and Bill Gates is massive for sure but are you suffering the answer is no the question isn't whether somebody's earning more than here the question is whether you are suffering the question is whether you are poor if you want to make a statement that we all ought to get on board to fight poverty I'm with you if you want to say that we ought to fight income inequality I'm not with you at all because I don't think that the rich guys stole from the poor guy in fact rich people don't get rich by stealing from poor impossible promise of what you will deliver and an impossible price then you make your profits from change orders errors and delays as an example take July 25th congressional testimony on the james webb space telescope the telescope designed to totally out class our major Telescope the Hubble Northrop Grumman won the James Webb Space Telescope contract in 2002 with a promise that the project report would cost half a billion dollars and would launch in 2007 the telescope is now likely to launch in 2022 15 years later and it's going to cost not half a billion dollars twenty times that it's gonna cost over ten billion dollars it has at this very moment three hundred and forty-four single point failures failures that will have to be corrected at a hefty profit for Northrop Grumman and every delay or snafu makes Northrop run more profit for example the latest delay will bring Northrop Grumman close to a billion dollars a billion dollars is a lot of money when the head of Northrop Grumman was asked in a hearing of a House Subcommittee on Science Space and Technology on July 25th to reveal his company's annual profits he refused an ungodly part of that profit came from change orders and delays on the James Webb Space Telescope which is not just a telescope it's a parasitic sluice a pipeline down which money flows from NASA to Northrop Grumman and what is that money buying us not the rapid implementation of this miracle telescope the James Webb Space Telescope it's paying for deliberate sabotage it's paying for false promises it's paying for failure points and delays that's just one example that's just one example out of countless examples of money leaving the pockets of you and me and going to government contracts that go over budget and pass deadlines with no oversight because the people who are supposed to be overseeing it are almost certainly getting a cut of all the money being schemed away from you and me now some say that this is proof of government inefficiency but I see it as proof of a collusion between corporations and the government to bilk the American people out of hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars every year because right now we have a system by the moneyed interests for the moneyed interests that's why we need politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria or kZO Cortez who tell the lobbyists for these companies go fuck yourselves we don't want your money we don't work for you we work for the American people until we the people demand that our politicians represent us and kick out of office any of these bought and sold cocksucking pieces of shit like 99% of the motherfuckers in office today this will not change and I haven't even gotten into the horrors of things like the private prison complex and a million other ways the whole system is stacked against the poor and in favor of the rich but I don't need to because everyone already knows that Leonard Cohen will tell you everybody knows the war is over everybody knows the good guys lost so Ben I have no problem with their being rich people and poor people but I think the poor people deserve a basic standard of living and I think the government should give no preferential treatment to the rich and we certainly shouldn't be letting them naked ly by our public officials and if you're in favor of that and you must be because it's what you're defending then you're a fucking idiot but I already knew that the fourth argument made by proponents of democratic socialism is that it's never really been tried you hear this one a lot stop oh my god stop you cocksucker Jesus Christ Bernie Sanders has openly said that what he wants is for us to emulate some of the good ideas of places like Denmark Sweden Norway etc I just showed a clip of him talking to a Danish conservative about the efficacy of their system you're thinking of Communists and communism they're the ones who say well true communism has never been tried and you know what they're right it really hasn't but that's because it's a stupid theory that doesn't work anytime someone's tried to make it happen they've never gotten beyond the totalitarian socialist government
