tune our hearts and our minds to the reading of the scripture coming this beginning of the sabbath from the book of first samuel chapter 30 verses 6 through 7 and david was greatly distressed for the people spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people was grieved every man for his sons and for his daughters but david encouraged himself in the lord his god and david said to abby athar the priests a himalayan son i pray thee remy hither the ephod and the beathard brought vither they fought to david thus entered the reading of the scripture the grass withers and the flower fadeth but the word of our god shall stand forever [Music] is [Music] is is [Music] my [Applause] [Music] is [Applause] is [Music] unto the house of israel first thanking god almighty for allowing us to be here virtually but still be able to fulfill his presence to fill his love and to fill his care for his children thanking god almighty for the sending and receiving of prophet william saunders crowding and thanking god for the gift of our grand and noble leader chief rabbi philip eugene mcneill grandfather abraham to all of the ministers uh that have tuned in and to all of the saints and friends i greet you shalom i want to thank deacon smith for reading the scripture uh taken from first samuel chapter 30 he read verses six and seven and if i can just throw in verse eight uh where it says and david was greatly distressed for the people spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people was grieved every man for his sons and for his daughters but david encouraged himself in the lord his god and david said to abathur the priest a himalayan son i pray thee bring me hither the ephod and the avatar brought the brought feather the ephod to david and verse 8 says and david inquired at the lord saying shall i pursue after this truth shall i overtake them and he answered him pursue for thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all for the next few moments if we can use for a thought and a theme our pursuit of happiness at the birth of this great nation the founding fathers pin these words when they broke from the restraints of british rule we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with uh certain unalienable rights that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and although as a young nation the intention of this declaration did not fall upon every person living within these shores its securities were promised from god and not from man so what some intended for few god had purposed for all and like a father god's intention is for his children to be happy in fact i would go as far as to say god commands us to be happy happiness is subjective it's it's a subjective state of well-being but what makes me happy may not make you happy happiness is personal and it's in the eye of the behold it's blissful it's limitless it's unmeasurable but true happiness must be undergirded with a dynamic god consciousness and it's at that point uh when your horizontal happiness will meet with your vertical joy and you'll find yourself at the crossroads called peace and contentment and to show you what i'm saying is grounded in the word of god take some time and visit psalm 37 4 where it says delight thyself also in the lord and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart jump over to psalms 144 verse 15 where it says happy is the people whose god is the lord and then just for good measure go and visit psalm 146 verse 5 where it says happy is he that have the god of jacob for his help whose hope is in the lord his god and just so we make sure the point is made visit proverbs 3 13 where it says happy is the man that findeth wisdom and the man that get it understanding since we all deserve a righteous happiness and it's our inalienable right as a child of god to have it just think back over the last 12 months we've met with so much hurt destruction and pain so many things have tried to rob and destroy the happiness we've cherished the loss of loved ones civil unrest political uncertainty mass shootings global economic recession and the list goes on and on this last year made us feel as though happiness is a distant stranger but in the face of all those disappointments and disasters heartaches and pitfalls god still commands us to find a degree of righteous happiness now i i know some may be thinking you know vans you you just don't understand the unmentionable sin i've committed the unbearable pain that i face the indescribable suffering and the tears i've cried i i've done too much wrong i've faced too much agony i've fallen off the wagon too many times i i've been through too much to expect happiness now but that's when i must remind us to go and turn back to uh the 130th psalm where it says let israel hope in the lord for with the lord there is mercy and with him is plenteous redemption he shall redeem israel from all his iniquities you and i have faced some of the same hurt suffered some of the same laws endured some of the same pain and i can still tell you with confidence that god is commanding us to pursue a righteous happiness there there's so much more to life than the pain of this pandemic or the quagmire of this quarantine the byproducts of these pains may have arrested our attention but god is ready if we are to set the captives free we have to believe that now in our text david understood the type of predicament of which i speak for uh the sake of time i i can't unpack this entire saga so uh in your own devotion take some time and uh read the first three first samuel again uh but if you would just allow me for a few moments to give a quick backdrop nestled in a chapter 27 david fled the israelite camp because of saul's jealousy he finds himself uh with 600 men who followed him into ziglag and was working for the philistine army they were fighting hand in hand with the philistine army the philistine were the enemy of israel but that's a different story they fought with them for a whole year but as the philistines prepared to go and fight israel the commanding officer uh sent david and those with them back because he was afraid that david would uh side with the israelites in the heat of battle and so we find ourselves at the 30th chapter where they return to ziggler they enter into the city to find the amalekites had invaded and burned everything they had taken the wives children and anything of value david and his men wept until they had no more power to weep the bible says david was greatly distressed for the people spoke of stoning him because the soul of all the people was grieved now there are three points that i want to give you in regards to this saga uh to show us that god wants us to pursue our happiness i i believe i'm supposed to share these points with you and then i'm going to be out of your way but the first point uh i want to give you in regards to pursuing our happiness is our strength is anchored in the lord and not man you you got the strength is anchored in the lord and not in man verse 6 says and david was greatly distressed for the people spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people was greed every man for his son and for his daughter but david encouraged himself in the lord his god now the king james virgin said david encouraged himself in the lord his god uh but this this evening if you would allow me let's consider how it's recorded in the mesoreg text it says but david strengthened himself in the lord his god now some may say uh the wording is just semantics but in this instance i have to humbly disagree something is truly lost in the translation let me explain uh now don't don't misunderstand me to encourage yourself in the lord is necessary it's a good thing it means we can let our mind drift back to some point when god moved in our life and made a way out of no way to encourage yourself in the lord god means you're inspired to find hope in the lord but there are times in life when we have to take hope and take it a step further and put it our faith into action see when we strengthen something we're taking something and making it stronger we're making it more dominant giving it more power to encourage is reflected but to strengthen is an aggressive action and i don't know about you but over these last 12 months during this pandemic i've had to take some aggressive action to maintain the integrity of my spiritual balance and i learned like david we must strengthen ourselves in the lord our god just think for over a year our mode of fellowship has been relegated to virtual services a virtual experience and although i am thankful for zoom youtube and any other virtual platform that we've been able to use uh that has kept us connected i thank god for the technology but i have to state the obvious and that's that as much as i appreciate and love it it cannot replace the physical fellowship that i and i know you miss so much with our brothers and sisters to hug our leader to to hug each other we miss those physical interactions but this past year taught us that our fellowship experience may have been altered but our worship experience has been strengthened you see god took this time to show us that the doors of our buildings may be closed but the windows of heaven are still open and he's showing us that uh through this pandemic he is still worthy to be praised god's presence can't be contained to brick water or computer screen god's presence is within the hearts of his people each and every one of us and i believe god is saying you can sit in the solitude of your home and you can see me in you this past year god has required a more intimate relationship with each of us like never before in this generation or our buildings may have represented our fellowship but our personal and inner devotions represent our worship covenant 19 may have altered our fellowship all right but it could never disrupt our worship so the first point in looking for pursuing your happiness the first point our strength is anchored in the lord and not in our fellow man second point we must stop always telling god what it is we want i know that's a tough one i i i i i know i i when when i felt it i said it's going to be a tough sell but i've got to say it we we've got to stop always telling god what it is we want verse 8 said and david inquired at the lord saying shall i pursue after this troop shall i overtake them and he answered him pursue for thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all if we're honest for many of us we we have the prayer part online we have the petition down pat we can make some sincere and solemn requests to our creator if we're lacking money lord please bless my finances folk getting on my nerve at my job lord please bless me with a new job yes it's the job that i prayed for three years ago but i'm asking you now bless me with a new job uh our cars on the blink court grant me a new car our kids are acting like hemorrhoids a heavenly father who sits high and looks slow i i beseech you this evening and ask that you do something with these little pains in my rear we've got the prayer down path we know how to ask god for what we want but how many times do we go to god without any preconceived notion or idea and humbly ask lord what do you want me to do you see my finances are jacked up how do you want me to get them in order you you see i'm stressed out on this job shall i pursue another job you see my marriage is heading for divorce shall i pursue reconciliation you see the relationships in my extended family have fallen apart shall i pursue restoration at this time david inquired at the lord not his mother not his father not his best friend not his pet he inquired at the lord he didn't pick up an iphone the bible said he picked up an epod and he inquired at the lord and the lord said pursue we have to stop telling god what it is we want and give him a chance to tell us what it is he wants for us and then when he tells us don't just set out to do it pursue it fake it he promised it overtake it go for it boldly and get what god has laid out for us god said start your own business then pursue it he said finish that degree then pursue it he said break free from the toxicity in your life then overtake it move forward aggressively chase it go after what is yours for the bible said but thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all the second point that i leave is we must stop always telling god what it is we want the third and final point then that i want to leave you with is that we must apply the obama principle you you know what the obama principle is we really remember it when they go low you go verse 22 and 23 says it this way then answered all the wicked men and men of bilal of those that went with david and said because they went not with us we will not give them art of the spoil that we have recovered saved to every man his wife and his children that they may lead them away and depart and then david said ye shall not do so my brother with that which the lord have given us who have preserved us and delivered the company that came up against us into our hand but when god has placed us on the path to our happiness one of the worst things we can do is to lose focus of what's important and start trying to get even with folk who've done us wrong stop trying to settle the score with people who did you wrong god said vengeance is mine and guess what he plays the vengeance game a whole lot better than we do i i know they hurt you i know the betrayal cut deep i i know you thought they would be there for you just like you would then for them but you've got to get past that keep moving towards your happiness we can't transition to the next level god wants for us by always contending with people who are too spiritually weak to celebrate our happiness and truth to power those are the same ones that you're going to need to leave at the brook anyway now don't don't be mean don't be vengeful don't fuss don't cuss don't uh break out complaining don't tweet about it don't post about it don't chat about it don't go calling them up serving notice that you're leaving them at the brook because they were too weak to fight you just put your left foot in front of your right foot and keep on moving down the path pursuing your happiness david received the charge from god to pursue he got pumped up and excited he headed out and then found out that 200 soldiers with him and i might add 200 of the same ones that wanted to stone him to death couldn't continue because they were too weak they were too broken by their past to fight for the future but david was able to recover all through the grace of god and the 400 soldiers that went with him said not to give the weaker 200 soldiers any of the spoils because they had to be left at the brook because they couldn't go on and fight with them but saints david knew that that was not of god and david said we have to share the spoils with the men because god did this and not us i'm begging you don't let people shortcomings change the godly person that you are don't be bitter be better and as our former forever first lady michelle obama put it when they go low you just go high take the high road if they do you wrong you do right regardless bishop how exactly plumber said do right because it's right to do right they'll receive their reward don't you lose your head or lose your reward reward over someone who isn't worth you losing it anyway stop worrying about brook dwellers and move onward to your happiness just pursue it pursue your joy stew your tranquility pursue your contentment pursue your serenity god has a table of peace already prepared for you and me in the presence of our enemies how do i know because he promised it just pursue it has thou not known hast thou not heard that the everlasting god the lord the creator of the ends of the earth fainted not neither is weary there is no searching of his understanding he giveth power to the faith and to them that have no might he increases strength even the youth shall faint and be weary and the young men shall utterly fall but they that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength they shall mount up with wings as eagles they shall run and not be weary they shall walk not fit i beg you let us come together and follow our leader down the road to our happiness house of israel please bring [Laughter] [Music] [Music] peace [Music] when my mother and my father [Music] oh [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] he will strengthen my heart [Music] he will strengthen thy heart upon me [Music] upon me [Music] up upon me when my mother and my father [Music] hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah god came by here this evening and he used that young man by the name of evangelist joseph weatherford the local pastor of fourth tabernacle bethel down in richmond virginia he stepped out uh he banned his weather for stepping out of the way so that god could step in and use him to talk to you and i about our pursuit of happiness this man told us about how we must participate if you will in our pursuit of happiness we must be engaged in our pursuit of happiness we must have an affirmative action an affirmative mind and trust in god in the pursuit of happiness and he gave us three points uh uh about the pursuit of happiness he said our strength is uncut our strength is uncut in and out in in the lord and not in men and when he said that my mind are because sometimes in life it takes the carnal to help to explain uh the spiritual and the holy it takes to carnal to help us to understand better what god is doing in our lives and when he says we have to be uncut my mind went to the song that says uh my soul all those storms keep on raging in my life and at times although i'm pursuing a happiness at times i can't tell the day from the night still the hope that lies within me my hope is lying within me because i'm trusting in god is reassured as i keep my eye upon the distance sure oh my god he'll break me too and he'll bring you to that blessing place he has prepared as you pursue happiness but the song also gives us of that uh drink that says but if because uh while you're pursuing it it may not happen right away uh you may have to keep on going down that road some of the sunsets but if the storm keep on raging at it the wind keep on blowing in my life my soul has been what i died in the lord then he went on to say we must stop always telling god what we want and as he said that again my mind went back to my days of playing basketball and as i listened to evangelist weatherford i remember he played basketball for his college job wasn't that good i played basketball for the boys club you leave and i learned that uh sometimes in basketball you want to score you want the ball and you're getting mad but the coach he knows uh he has a game plan and sometimes we are trying to tell the coach what we want sometimes we're trying to tell the coach the great coach of the universe what we want but if it was quite clear stop trying to tell god what he wants and listen to what god is telling you he wants you to do sometimes your job is to set up another player because that player needs a blessing ahead of your blessing and when you set that player up not only are you helping him to get her hurting their blessing but you're being blessed people are noticing you they're saying that you're not selfish hallelujah you're not selfish and as you do these things uh you're moving towards what the ultimate goal is to win the game and god if you follow god's plan you will be happy because you're gonna win the game the third point that he used uh he said we must always apply the obama principle when they go low we go higher and i thought about again that carnal thing that helps us understand the spiritual and i thought about that a song that says stand still stand steady don't mind what satan says and sometimes in your pursuit of happiness sometimes the enemy is going to be coming at you from all sides in all directions but if you trust god and that's what we have been taught to do god has never lost the battle god has never came in second place he always comes in first god speaks and it is so he commands and it stands past if god has something for you you're going to get it so what you need to do is when they go low you go behind and watch god help you to receive your blessing house of israel please pray for me he that dwells the most high the almighty place [Music] [Music] he i will say he is [Music] my fault [Music] i is say [Music] [Laughter] he is my [Music] is [Music] is [Music] many blessings [Music] for my [Music] many blessings [Music] until my [Music] until [Music] until i was [Music] amen and amen and amen i'm thanking the lord for this beautiful service the lord stopped by and blessed us with a heaping portion of his spirit on this beautiful beginning of the sabbath i'm not going to prolong the service the service speaks for itself i'll just say that we that during the worship service we had a kind of a cross-country call and response during the worship service deacon daryl smith gave the call from alexandria and sister elder stacy kramarti gave the response from los angeles it was a beautiful combination and then we received from this very fine speaker a manual for how to pursue happiness during a pandemic a manual for how to pursue happiness during a pandemic and then we got a commentary on the manual a commentary and an elucidation an application of the manual so the lord gave it all to us tonight a beautiful call in response to worship service laid a manual on us a commentary we can't ask for more than that but that's that's how good god is and he did it in the spirit they performed this in the spirit of prophecy oh how beautiful it is when we can come together and worship as we did on this beautiful beginning of the sabbath and be inspired and be instructed in wisdom so thank you lord again for this wonderful wonderful beautiful service and not only that i guess i forgot to mention the jazzy chords coming to uh from some of those singers i don't know i don't think the writer put some of those chords in there but they spiced it up very very nicely and and very respectfully oh prophet william sanders crowding brought the plan of salvation to us and he gave it to us in a big blob but you and i are in the process of chopping up that blob and getting the goodies out of that blob and certainly we got a number of very fine goodies from this evening's worship service so let us go home now and and go over into go over into first samuel before you go to bed go over into first samuel chapter 27 and chapter 30 and get the and get the essence out of that out of that manual for yourself oh the lord is good the lord is gracious and merciful so let us now in the in this service i i won't kick the milk bucket over anymore let us let us end this service with a closing hymn followed by a a dismissal from deacon daryl smith elijah to the world [Music] [Music] he will reign oh [Music] oh then children of the heavenly king with faith children of the heavenly [Music] oh [Laughter] double [Music] double portion of spirit give me letting all points oh oh oh let us recite the mister the lord walks with us and for us when we're absent one from
