hello everybody today I'm going to show you how to put together a Sun catcher these are kids that we sell on our website they are vibrant colors there's all different kinds of colors to choose from as you could see from the previous slide this is what the kit looks like in each kit you will get two strands of glass beads they're all different shapes and sizes vibrant colors depending on what you choose you will either get a bell or you will get a crystal and there are several different shapes of crystals it depends on the availability that I have I like these they are a B they have that finish on them that makes kind of a rainbow effect and then these are plain I like the star as well you will also get memory wire you'll get mono filament which is fishing line and you'll get cording you will need a pair of scissors and you'll need a pair of pliers let's get started the first thing I do when I'm making the Sun catcher is you're gonna take your memory wire and you it's kind of like a slinky memory wire is made of steel and it's meant to stay together and to keep its shape that's why they call it memory wire if you ever want to cut memory wire at home do not use a good pair of pliers this is so hard that it will dent your good pliers they do sell memory wire cutter pliers but I also find that if I bend it back and forth enough with just the right amount of pressure it will cut itself as well so you need to because this wants to keep going back into the shape it's this is actually used a lot for bracelets we need to stretch it out and I'm going to show you how to do that one of the best ways that I have found to stretch my memory wire out is to rub it back and forth over my knee you could use the back of a chair or a table as well but for me this works the best you can see how this right now because it's not stretched out yet keeps wanting to go back to its shape I'm going to grasp both ends firmly I'm gonna run it back and forth over my knee just like this and a few times and I'm applying a bit of a pressure and then you can see how that then takes on the shape that we want for the Sun catcher I've decided to use this crystal as my bubble at the end I'm going to use the turquoise beads and the first thing I need to do after I stretch my wire out is I need to turn one end under so that all the beads don't fall off as I'm putting them on I'd like to do that preferably with a pair of round nose pliers if you don't have a pair of round nose pliers don't worry about it just go ahead and get whatever pliers you have you want to turn the end under and it's hard so apply some pressure okay and I've just turned that end under so I'm going to start stringing my beads on this end of my wire and I personally just do random beads I'm gonna put several on in this process it's kind of a great craft to do with a group of people I have done this with five-year-olds in my summer camp and I've done this with 90 year olds truly I have people who will get this kit and take it home and make it with their families I have people who will get this kit and take it on a girls weekend because simple enough to load the beads on and craft and chat at the same time when I get enough on I just kind of let it spiral down like you would have slinky all the way to the end I'm gonna continue by filling this whole spiral with beads okay I'm just about finished putting the beads on the spiral the wire I'm gonna put maybe one more on here and then I'm gonna use my pliers to turn this end under so the beads don't fall off okay then I want to this is an important part that I want to show you I'm going to tie my cording on first and there's a reason for that when I tie my cording on I'm gonna make a double knot here because I want it to stay on pretty tightly like that and then gonna make a knot up at the top then I need to tie my fishing line on so that it's gonna drip through the middle and here's the important part since I turn I wouldn't you to be able to see this since I turned the wire under no matter how tight I get that wire there's still a chance that the fishing line can slip out so it's important that I tie the fishing line right here in this space between the bead and where I tied the cording on and I probably should have had my glasses on but gonna tie the fishing line on here and fishing line is slippery so you want to I always put about two or three knots in the fishing line when I tie it on and then I can cut any excess part but I want to show you this two and three so you can see I hope that my fishing line is in between is in the space between this last bead and the courting so it's not going to slip all the way out of where I turned it under I'm gonna leave this little end on the fishing line I can either tuck it into the beads or I can snip it off at the end so now I'm just gonna go ahead and continue stringing beads onto the fishing line okay so I finished stringing the monofilament as far down as I'd like to I'll show you how far I did it it's just because I like to have my bobble hang about right here that's up to you you can tell how many beads are left you get plenty in in your kit so the way that I have found the most secure to put my bauble on depending on if you have the crystal or the bell you're going to go through the hole and then I go back up through a couple of beads like this you want to make sure you take all the slack out so that you don't have it hanging down where you don't want it and I'm gonna tie a knot actually going to tie three knots right there that's one right between the beads two three that way I feel like it's secure pull it tight remember I said that the monofilament tends to be slippery so you want to make sure that you either tie two or three good solid knots or you can also glue it and then I'm going to tuck the rest of my on a filament up the beads cut off the excess and then I've got my Sun catcher see you next time so I just got finished making the turquoise colored Sun catcher but I wanted to talk a little bit about the multicolor or rainbow beads as well and you can tell I can't help it and sometimes makes fun of me but I am always pulling beads out of all the beads that I have because I think oh these will be a cute pair of earrings to do something so anyway that's what's left of the beads from the turquoise kit that I pulled out and then these are the other beads that are left so you can tell once again that you have plenty in fact you have enough that when you do the multicolored this one is the multicolored I'm sure you can't I put a mirror on the end of this but I also wanted to let you know that you could get the rainbow effect from the multicolored pack of beads and I just separated them and clearly made rainbow colors in fact this was inspired by one of the kids who took my summer school camp so just another little tidbit
