hi guys i'm leah and i'm with jacobs trading if you haven't heard of jacob's trading check the description below we have some information about our online serena website it's pretty cool go check it out today i'm going to show you how to construct your very own sun catcher some supplies that you're going to need for today's project is some string or nylon cord your prisms as well as a couple tools so you're going to need a pair of pliers and a pair of snips if you really want to jazz up this project you can also get some decorative beads some crimp beads as well as some jump rings the first step is to cut your string to your desired length so when you do this you're going to make sure that you leave a little bit at the ends on both sides just for when we do the loops so you can just measure out to whatever length you wish you're going to take your little snips or scissors and you're just going to cut that thread there making sure that you leave a little extra the next step to making this project is to attach the prism itself to your cord so to do this you can either just slip the prism on and tie a simple knot or you can use crimp beads which is what i'm going to show you how to do here so to do this you're going to just take one single crimp bead and you're going to just slip it on to the end of your string here so just like that you're then going to take your prism and also slide it onto that string so you have both the crimp bead here as well as the prism you're then going to take the end of that cord and you're going to slip it back through that crimp bead so you're kind of making a little bit of a loop here so you're gonna just push that on just so that it has both sides of the string going through and you're gonna have this little loop you're then gonna take your pliers here and you're just gonna squish down that crimp bead so that it stays nice and secure so all i'm gonna do is just grab onto that crimp bead making sure you leave a little bit of space so that it has some room to dangle and you're just gonna squish down onto that crimp bead so as you can see now it is nice and tight and it's not gonna go anywhere if you have a little extra cord there at the end all you can do is just take a pair of scissors or snips and just cut that excess off so that it looks nice and neat so if you're just wanting a simple sun catcher all you're going to do to finish this off then is to take that other side and do pretty much the exact same thing with a crimp bead or a knot and just create another loop on the other end so that you can hang it from either a ceiling or some kind of hook but for this project here i want to jazz it up a little bit so i'm going to add some beads so to do that you can get a little creative and you can either fill this entire string up with beads themselves or if you'd like you could also do something similar to this one here where you have some floating beads which is what i'm going to show you how to do so i'm going to start by just adding some beads straight on to this string here and i'm going to kind of do a little bit of an alternating pattern so i'm gonna use some opalite and some rose quartz beads that i have so you're just gonna slide those guys down first so you have something like that and if you want you can just keep adding beads or we're going to do the floating effect here so to do that what we're going to now need is another crimp bead so what you're going to do is just slide on a crimp bead all the way down and we're going to go up a little bit from where those last beads leave off so i'm going to leave about like an inch or two but you can do whatever you'd like we're now going to take our pliers here and we're just going to crimp down on that bead at a certain length away from the other ones just like that so now when we put our next set of beads on you're going to have it so that they sit on top of that crimp bead instead of going all the way down to the other ones there so i'm just going to slide these guys onto that cord like we did with the other ones they're going to go all the way down but now they're going to stop where that crimp bead is so now you have that separation so you're going to repeat this step however many times you like until you've filled up your cord here so again i'm just going to grab a couple more beads here i've already added that crimp bead and we're just going to slide these guys down to create that floating effect like that so when you're done filling up your cord with the beads you're going to finish it off now to do this you can do this in two different ways you can either just tie a knot and leave a loop at the end you can also just add a crimp bead and just crimp it down to leave another loop but what i like to do is i like to add a jump ring so this makes it a lot easier to hang it from different things so to do that what we're going to do is we're going to just take this end and a crimp bead again and like you've been doing it just string that crimp bead on to the cord there we're then going to take the jump ring and add it also to that string similar to what we did at the very start when adding that crystal you're going to then take the end of your cord and string it back through the crimp bead again making a little loop here and i'm just gonna pull mine down because that's a little bit long for what i want it for but you're gonna push it up nice and close to where that jump ring sits and all you're going to do is crimp that crimp bead like before so you're going to take your pliers and all you're going to do is just squish down that crimp bead like that so that's going to create your end and again if you have some excess cord left over like i do you can take your snips or scissors and just clip that off so that it looks nice and clean and you have it like that so this is what your final product should look like and with this all ready to go you can now just place it into a windowsill to catch some rainbows so that's it for me guys if you like this video make sure you hit that like button and if you haven't already make sure you subscribe we're putting out new
