welcome back to pole bar garage where I'm here with Buff's garage and this 1960 Ford Country sedan station wagon and also a tornado disregard that for now check this baby out I saw this pop up on Marketplace for a cool 1,500 bucks I offered the guy 1,200 bucks and he took it now no motor no trans Factory six-cylinder car uh plenty of rust floor deletes seat delete all the glass is good in here and look at that dashboard man look at the bubble back window and the fold up and down tailgate this thing is chalk full of stuff I mean I think we got everything here to build a car above yeah I think we do except for one thing a motor and transmission all right well that's two things back in the woods there is a 1977 Mercury Grand Marquee with a 460 and a C6 and we are going to pull that motor and trans out stuff it in this wagon and have a big block Ford powered 1960 Ford station wagon let's get started by getting that pile of crap running and in the shop if you uh missed the video on that buff helped me get it running last year car's rotted in half don't feel bad about it we're losing trees I'm holding on is really bad here's the Mercury this thing ran great unfortunately I've robbed Parts off of it so we got to put this thing back together and put a fuel system in it it's literally raining sideways woohoo we lose some more yeah we had to run cuz it it started pouring but now Clear Blue Skies anyway I have robbed this thing off of the distributor for another car battery we need to throw a boat tank in it probably a clicky clack uh let's just get this pile started before the nators come back there's a boat tank in a clicky clack in it it's a baby one what we just hook that back up to the tail light we're good we reassembled the distributor I rebuilt the carburetor with a stick and soon the Old Mercury was running once again I gently backed it out of the hole it was in and then gently drove it down the hill so we could pull it into the shop for extraction [Applause] wonder what you hit there I don't know it didn't like that very much [Applause] here is the mighty 460 destined for that wagon we need everything here wiring harness starting circuit everything and the only thing we're going to do to this is put a fuel pump on it before it goes in the other car so quick and dirty knock it out yeah the good thing about parting out cars like this you get all kinds of bolts and stuff this is why he F me okay be CLA you you were just here to pick up a transmission that's really all I was here for yeah but here we are so we're carefully removing all the wiring ignition components charging components uh everything we're going to need to put it in a car that is a blank slate there's obviously a couple of ways you can go about that you can buy an Aftermarket Wiring Harness you could buy aftermarket everything and spend lots of money and have lots of sponsors or you could just use the car you have for free that that's what I'm going to do cuz that's what I've always done well so much for keeping things clean probably should have done that outside not that that would be correct but you know hey it's EPA proved out there let's go ahead and rip off the power steering pump AC compressor smog pump because the only thing we need in that car is an alternator good progress here uh fighting motor mounts now apparently they are not welded on nuts on the back it's an actual bolt and nut that's uh very convenient for to do that ow hand folds are hot I don't even know how you're supposed to get to this one I guess I got to pull the alternator off there's a drive shaft we'll keep this cuz it's a fre freaking long drive shaft there's not terribly unlikely that that wouldn't work in that wagon or we could shorten it a little bit I think this is what you paid for when you bought a Mercury over a Ford that I bet it weighs 50 lb mhm oh yeah it's got a dampener in it it's got a rubber isolator it's like two pieces no wonder these things drove so good also that means I probably can't shorten it exhaust is gone how's that motor mount treating you buffed I gave up oh so in here somewhere yeah but you got to weave around the exhaust to get to it uhhuh nice nice teamwork makes the Ford work not really NOP here goes pulling time excellent the whole car's lifting yeah why is it doing that the Bolt's still in it what the I swear to God we took that Bolt outm I bet it comes out better now oh look at that oh whoa got immediately failed that bolt wasn't in very good I guess uh manifold yeah or we just keep going just keep going yeah just keep going we I did need that one anyway really that seemed well it's still got the cats attached to them that might be some of our problem there's a whole lot of exhaust there would always like to attach their cats like this right after the freaking exhaust manifold I don't know if that's to get a better sniffer reading or what like watching a baby get bir now we can cut that pipe out of the way it's free there we go oh good it's peeing every fluid don't demand going to make a blood bath and that's just a fact of life there already is one it's mostly empty oh we're there run out of the room up the top yeah oh so let's go down a little bit y there we get hitting again so we can move the car back yeah we just got to un chock okay okay breaks look what you did I didn't do anything only thing we really need is the frame mounts for the engine out of this thing we'll keep the car around of course for a little while just in case I forgot something all of these are bolted and nutted and you can't access the bolts they're up inside the cross member you got to work through the a AR pole I'm just going to cut them off when this rolls down the hill I'll just ride right here uhhuh straight down n there's one uh we should put a p on that for urine that also for passenger side what could go wrong let a rip I said let it rip I said let it rip is it still more I don't know it's not moving let a rip goodbye see you later oh that looks great sitting there it'll match the washing machine on my front porch perfect well that was dumb why did I do that that was Dumber man I'm making bad decisions today anyway let's soak this baby down in some super clean here I like to double fist and stuff feel free to grab some buff if you want to join in I'll grab some too kind of mess this one up not going to lie well don't spray on the carburetor you want I got a bag on it yeah but are you doing it's going to run over it's going to run off run it over this is like shaving cream except for it kind of burns a little looks kind of tasty not going to lie doesn't smell like it though you need one yeah you got to really get in there looks like someone's put a timing chain in it it's definitely got some red RTV on the oil pan and timing cover what the hell are you doing this is how you Reus it huh okay got to make this transmission brand new it's like Christmas around here a Colombian [Music] [Music] Christmas thing looks pretty good mhm looks good enough to just drop right in almost we'll let her uh drip dry then spray bomb it we're going to cut these crossover tubes for the EGR and then just JB Weld a couple bolts into the into them to plug them I don't think we can just put a pipe plug in these they're clamped in right they're pushing so if we just plug them back there you'll never see it when it's installed in the car at least Puffs popping the carb off we'll probably swap it out for a holly oh no we won't this is a spread board carburetor mhm Ford's spread board carburetor uh we're still going to eliminate that yeah we could take that EGR crap off by just setting the carb right back down on it I think I might be mistaken oh yes mhm oh that's exhaust it's fine we're eliminating that it's going to be just fine we'll just put it back yep w work what shows oh you got to have that you think no we cut it off and pack it full of JB Weld have you done that no no so we'll just cut this back here and then plug it with JB Weld one of these has a nice hole here we can just stick a bolt in so we'll JB Weld a bolt into it then what we'll do for the other one is uh not that we'll just pack the whole thing full of JB Weld front and back it'll be all right so the other option for people that don't want to do this they could just go buy a new intake yeah I mean that would be the other way to do that thing is I'm trying to keep it real trying to keep it as a a budget build you know now later on will I upgrade to an aluminum intake sure if I find a good deal on a used one or something I have almost 200,000 YouTube subscribers could I call any company and get one for free yes did I no there's a reason you know so eliminating smog stuff streamlining it but keeping it what it was exactly we'll even use the old Motorcraft cuz it seemed to run okay better go find some bolts that fit those tubes next I can't imagine where we would find a bolt I don't know not here that's for sure well these are professionally sealed now so I think we might as well throw some paint at it huh I I think we're at that point it needs to have overnight to cure so yep let's make it happen little extra cleaning on the intake get rid of that EGR crap it just looks so much better Jess went to O'Reilly and picked out her favorite shade of Ford blue which was um old Ford blue there's like 15 different kinds of Ford blue and there's new valves right there and new cam lifters don't forget the header upgrade gaskets headers uh got a hog ass cam let me tell you that's going to look good it should look good I mean you know what this took us what 2 hours of extra work maybe just to clean this thing up before we dump it in the other car and it's not perfect but that's fine damn if that isn't a blue engine bu it's gorgeous it's completely rebuilt now you can tell by the blue spark plugs that's the witness Mark of quality back out here this morning uh we are going to finish prepping the engine here Buff's already thrown the carburetor on we got to throw a fuel pump on it and then I guess we'll wheel that wagon around here and give it the pressure wash treatment as well pretty handy that I just had an extra fuel pump laying around I'm pretty sure this is for a 460 I guess we'll find out in a minute scrape this surface clean using a super scraper my buddy morsky with morsky repair you check out his channel on YouTube he sent me super scrapers entire line of scrapers for me to try out and got to say I'm pretty impressed with them and also morsky is a good guy go check out his channel let's get a car come on swny [Music] so freaking scary every time well the wagon is close a power wash mhm we also noticed something last night the whole front clip is held on with like two bolts we should probably just remove it that'll make our lives a lot easier yeah not going to take a whole lot to get that off more Steel in this Hood than 20 new cars yep I bet this son of a would stop a bullet think this will just fall off now oh there there it goes just fell right off there oh this is going to make life a lot easier get all this nice and clean I'll take a well I'll try to straighten that while it's off I might need to dent puller actually so that might be easier to fix on the car if we can't manage to put that motor in this we should just give up yeah we should give up y arm yourself this one's pretty clean not bad we got the standard super clean and the foaming super clean right here they both equally yeah F me this side of the car is down hard has a broken Leaf in the rear by the way it has a broken Leaf in the rear but not to worry there's four sets of Springs inside the car so we'll put the motor in before we deal with any of that [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] I'm [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] sucks that windshield's broken I had no idea with all the valuable Barn dust on it it's got that one crack back window too at least it's not right in the driver's view no just right in the driver's view is [Music] all all right good enough for now [Music] obviously we put a little more effort into this than some of the ones we've done and that's because I like this car so sometimes I hate cars and then I don't put the effort into them sometimes I just don't care see the thing is there's not just like a baseline for one way to do things there's multiple ways to do it you know multiple levels of giving a this is like a level six probably I didn't even buy tractor paint I bought epoxy Cass and Grill paint from Harbor Freight so you know it's terrible buff I'll cut you loose you with this I'm going to go clean up those inner [Music] [Applause] [Music] fenders yeah show quality these cleaned up really nice straight to Bare Metal this thing's going to look like a frame off Resto Factory runs and all let me go ahead and fix that rust hole and it's gone yep that is completely restored now and so is that looking pretty sharp you pop the hood you see that sitting in there you're going to go yep he bought a lot of spray paint pull the transmission cross fimber out of this thing then we'll get her in a little bit further and test fit the engine get the death wheel to cut that park brake cable ta all right coming in a little more we're bolting the frame side mounts to the engine this motor mount is broken over here uh just going to ignore it while we mock things up I have a new one coming if it doesn't come in time my Liquid Nails trick actually works pretty good on that just mocking it up here unless it goes right down yes and then which case we just start welding we're within Striking Distance it's almost like this engine doesn't go in this car oh it's it's there it's to go sideways bringing her down that's not going to landay anywhere near where we need it I think we can still come back about 2 in all right I'm going to go down this is what we're going to need to get clear oh and it just did it's right there it just did yeah it's got plenty of trans that's what I'm saying so unexpected okay new plan looks like it's in there but it's not it looks really good it does uh we're going to have to cut the factory mounts out and then weld those Mercury mounts straight to that cross member this side is about the correct height sitting on top of the factory Mount like that which would be pretty much where that mercury Mount would place it it does just happen to be just about the same width so if we just cut those out B the mounts back to the engine drop it back in weld it where it sits we're basically OSHA up in here I got that ripped off buff get there well since we're committing to this uh I'm going to go ahead and JB Weld this motor mount back together because I have not enough patience to wait till tomorrow when my new one will show up it's not on the torque side so it really should wouldn't be a big deal if somebody wouldn't have forgot the bolt it wouldn't be a problem good help for free especially normally I would use Liquid Nails or window weld for this job but I don't have either so look at my utter genius buff I wasn't even planning on starting this project until like tomorrow but free labor showed up and that really just changes everything so thanks buff you're welcome you guys better go check out Buff's garage see that look at that yes thankfully I got the quick set is it highly flammable I hope so you got it um is it done yet one one away well they're all cleaned up now welds are ground off let's put the mounts on the engine and try again it's going to go right in I mean there's really not much else in the way now so they go down a bit need this is looking a lot better than before it's working oh wow that that that is good oh yeah breaking our motor mount is it I mean it is adjusting our motor mount no it would never break it though oh yeah no that did not break at all yeah that JB Weld held great we have a plan it's not a very good one but we have one um solid mount yeah so that motor mount's broke I'm not waiting to replace it so you're going to weld in that piece of scrap there and just attach everything together then not only that we're going to Guss it these mounts from the crossmember to the front of the mount with some more scrap steel just to triangulate them even though it's not really a triangle it's kind of an isoceles triangle I'm going to cut this file up and we'll use it to gusset the other one oh okay yeah it's wore out anyway you know yeah it's it'll be fine let's just start burning this will be the 460 permanent install 101 ow these gloves are not [Music] fireproof okay those welds look just like Factory like ship guess we're going to take this antique file that he found laying on the ground and make it into a gusset time to file this to [Laughter] fit you see what I did there oh God not funny you know good thing about this you know we did weld it in but if we ever got to pull it back out I mean couple good Yanks with cherry pickers he's popping right out of there it's the permanent non-permanent engine mount it's semi-permanent you might say Tada installed a 460 in a 60 Ford never been done except for the few times that it's been done well let's test this heater core okay well let's not hook up this heater core it seems plugged it's very much plugged we'll Loop these hoses together then we might be dumb but we're not stupid the freaking Mercury's cross member is like exactly what this car needs so we just need to trim this Mercury crossmember slightly it's like I don't know an inch too wide [Applause] maybe that's some thick metal yeah it is I bet that's hot yeah it is we're genius now we just bring the transmission down yes talk nice to it oh there it is here's the nut now we lower the transmission and drill and bolt it where it sits Behold our utter genius um sort of why is it weird why is it tilting I cut up this barn door hinge so that we can make a couple little extension tabs and Guss it up or cross pimer goes it needs a little more strength back here to hold it up so we're going to extend this and then Guss it the two pieces together with a triangle be very strong and [Music] secure not half bad need a glue gun I I could use one that's custom mhm nothing like a piece of scrap metal and some barn door hinge it will not look like that when it's done yes it will oh you need a helmet nope here's a helmet now we helmet it check that out this baby is sitting in here independent all by itself it's solid oh yeah well the engine's not held in with so you know we got to hold in something transmission ain't going any yeah transmission's good and now a quick word from our sponsor are you drinking ag1 out of a glass like a peasant yes it's another average morning in the P bar garage household not only do we have matching shirts on today but also we both drink ag1 every morning and uh ag1 is good for your gut it's got all the vitamins and stuff you need to power through the day so ag1 tastes good it's got probiotics in it it's good for your gut health ag1 supports your immunity I really believe in ag1 I've noticed a big difference I mean just taking it every day energy levels are higher I can get more work done God knows I need all the help I can get click the link below in the description you can get a year supply of vitamin D3 and K2 as well as travel pouches as we just used those when we were at Kevin and muks actually junkyard dicks we were up there so we never missed a beat with our ag1 go to drink a1.com pobar garage get your free vitamin D3 and K2 and your free travel pouches today thanks to ag1 for helping sponsor this video let's get back to work good morning today we need to make a drive shaft we need to make an alternator bracket uh and maybe start on some wiring drive shaft first and you guys are going to like what I've come up with the Mercury Drive Shaft was too long the car had a drive shaft in it but it's not for this that is the holy goat's original drive shaft the one that ejected itself down in Arizona but i' still still good shape and I think using the Mercury slip yolk and that by my eyeball is pretty damn close unfortunately it looks like all four bolts are broke off in that yolk back there so I'm have to drill every single one here's the slip yolk out of the Mercury now it takes a 1350 U joint all these aftermarket dryve shafts from Southwest speed all come pre-installed with 1310 U joints so I had to get a combo ujoint to go from a 1310 to a 1350 the car actually takes a 1310 so we're in good shape there so we just got to adapt from the much smaller 1310 to the big chimanga 1350 or I was wrong take something that's a 1350 wide but it uses a 1310 cap uh Ford stuff well I guess that's the wrong one it's supposed to have a 1330 U joint in the Mercury's Yol I guess what we'll do instead is uh I'll go work on Drilling out that yolk and I'll return this one and go get the correct one supposed to be a ubolt style they just cut the UB bolts off I think this would be easier to deal with if I removed it first we're going to have to grind these off and then punch them out the back this is a 9 in so that's cool you can always tell by that lower bolt here if you can't get a socket on that nut down there it's a 9 in this Baby's probably got a pretty steep gear in it being a 6-cylinder car I bet it's like a 411 this is a pretty bad idea because there's Crush washers in there and you loosen them then they never quite work the same but it'll be fine got it there we go H would be a great time to replace that seal so anyway I'll ignore it we can see here they just cut those off this one's been welded into place I do have a couple other third members but they're bigger they're the 133 U joint so their later model and I think there's a spline difference or a length difference on the older 9 in to the newer 9 in I don't know let's try to salvage this one that would be the easiest round hoping I just hit these enough that those welds will break it didn't look that good kind of looked like I welded it this is one of those classic situations of it'll be someone else's problem unfortunately it was me this time going try to take a bit to it just clean up where all those welds are there we go that's all fixed up now toss this on there and I suppose while we wait for a new U joint maybe we move on to either a throttle pedal or some wiring or that alternator oh better do the alternator we got to figure out a way to drive that water pump all right I got a bit of an idea going here if I used the original bracket a couple long bolts we can be able to slide in and out horizont hly so we could stay straight with our pulley uh trying to figure out what a what kind of belt we want I have my horde of used belts and some extra new belts here it appears to be uh slightly smaller than that 7480 right there so we'll see what we can find and on about the 10th try uh this 15445 is just about right so now we can gauge how straight we are and figure out how many spacers we need to put in well a whole bunch of washers later and we got something here that'll work I think so belt alignments not too shabby so let adjust it tighten it down I had to change this up a little bit so we'll use a bolt through there and a nut on the back side to squeeze that together it's not quite straight enough otherwise but this will work expertly designed this to be a royal pain in the ass to change a belt on just like a real Ford engineer sounds like a decord well as far as wiring goes I plugged in our regulator that's all complete from the Mercury uh these are I think the start and ignition bypass wire uh for the original car and we can still use that I don't know which is which so we'll just guess for the dura spark 2 ignition module uh these are the two wires that run it it's basically just power and ground runs the whole thing and I'm pretty sure we could still use used the factory wiring for the points ignition because the dur spark 2 does use a ballast resistor so everything should be here we just hook it up and I don't know unless I'm completely wrong which is possible I got the right combo youu joint so I'm going to go ahead and install this we're going to knock these in with a hammer and a socket and ignore the fact that this yolk seems kind of sloppy and boom we'll go ahead and assemble it to the drive shaft brand new used drive shaft is installed now it is sticking out a little bit you might say so the axle's on the ground which is pulling it out of the trans but also look how long this yolk is I mean it's in there all the way to about here that's plenty of Engagement I think we'll be good that saves like 400 bucks right there I I feel pretty good about this has St was confident but future Dalton has his doubts now maybe we dive into getting a accelerator pedal some variety on this thing that would be good I pulled the one out of the Mercury and obviously the 60 originally uses a bar linkage and it was right up against the back of the block we weren't able to use that but we should be able to use a cable and if we're lucky maybe we just hook it right up and this Mercury pedal looks like it would bolt to the firewall fairly easy so hey beat spending money on a universal pedal or something I I've marked a hole here it's a factory hole but it just happens to line just about right with where the pedal will go up here in this dark abyss our pedal is going to mount somewhere in this Ballpark and it kicks over to the left and it'll be just about in line with that hole up on the firewall it's like they meant for it to be so let's put the cable in first I'm going to pick a drill bit that's roughly the size of this cable here here we don't want to oversize it too much now this is the biggest one I have so hopefully it'll do if not I'll have to bust out the Harbor Freight step bits and we're going to be here a while nothing quite like blindly guessing and assuming that this is going to work fine oh yeah oh it's beautiful sometimes my genius amazes myself I would normally like to shoot some self tappers into that I don't know if that would actually hold it or not so we might actually just put a couple of bolts and nuts in there just to be extra safe that's a thing of beauty I even used some Factory bolts with the built-in washer to bolt into the firewall and you know my whole goal here is when you open the hood of this thing I don't want anybody to think anything about it should look like it was always here and that's the factory carb everything I mean you know it's obviously free to do it that way but also it's pretty cool you know cuz it'll look white stock it's like yeah 460s came in that what about it this takes care of throttle brackets linkage and all that garbage well let's see if we can get this petal in here what I'm going to do is hook it up to the cable kind of eyeball it got to make sure we get Full Throttle out of this baby cuz I think she's going to be kind of spicy look at that you'd never know you my foot fell through the floor but never mind the floor look at the awesome throttle action of the Mercury's gas pedal another dollar saved I don't organize things I don't write things down so I kind of keep everything up here and up here gets a little jumbled sometimes I guess the next thing to do would be to put a shifter in it so I bought a B&M unimatic shifter this is kind of my go-to for a universal shifter U they're a lot better than like the CHP bar linkage ones cuz these are cable uh sometimes they get a little tight put them in the floor it's not going to be a problem with this one cuz there is no floor I just got a box of brake parts too but I think we need a shifter first we'll button up the whole Drive Trin and then brakes front clip and maybe start it up and Scoot it around I know we're going to have some wiring bugs to work out too this is not an easy process building a car is not easy okay I mean you know I have spent I think I paid 12,200 for the car and I think I've spent maybe $60 so far then now we're getting into the money of course but we've gone this far for practically free but that's only because we're working at it we're trading money for work so instead of writing checks we're trying to use a little Ingenuity and that takes time and a little bit of brain power which I have very little of this Ford pan is basically the same as JD's 59 Ford we put one of those shifters in It Go watch those videos that was about a year and a half ago if you haven't seen them so I think I'm just going to start by cutting out all this bad metal here and that's going to open up a ton of room we're going to have to build a little box for that shifter to sit on uh around here somewhere not going to be a whole lot left in here by the time I get done is there uh there's not a lot left in here but that's fine for now I'm thinking right about here it's pretty much the only place we can put this damn shifter I'm going to make a couple marks on that tunnel we'll make a little flap we can kick out out maybe bolt it to that flap and use it to mock everything up there's not a ton of room in here right about to there bolt this here now this part where the cable goes pretty much needs to be under the floor I mean I guess it doesn't have to be it would be pretty cool if it was can't go any further forward cuz I hit the dash I think the thing to do here is actually cut all this out and we'll make a little tunnel for this to go in and just build a box for it and right there is I mean it's just barely not in the way of anything hopefully nobody fatter than me tries to drive this I failed to realize that there's actually a floor brace back here I can't cut that out of the way so I think right there I can get two bolts in it that'll just barely clear that floor brace I'm going to test fit the cable in a minute I tried to use the column linkage out of the Mercury but it's it is completely different than this car even though the rest of it just seems to bolt we're about halfway there with this not too shabby just enough room I'm going to go ahead and hook up all the transmission linkage and then we'll come back and build the rest of this box here I may have to bust out the welder for this one but that's okay that took a little doing but now we have a shifter and it works even it's a little bit floppy cuz half the floor is missing you know but it works these unimatic are my go-to cuz you know they look decent and they work well a lot better in those box style ratchet shifters I've got my Nibbler out this is a heat shield out of that 4x4 van we built it's got a nice 90 built into it good thick metal something I don't know put it in somewhere like this maybe something like the L yeah there it is so we build that up hold that flat back down let to get in here with the welder I don't know let me Tinker around a little bit here see what I come up with just kind of eyeball and stuff all hail the mighty [Music] Nibbler well I've got that piece bolted into the shifter and now I'm going to weld it to the floor and then we're going to build from there as much as I would like to self Tapper it in the fact is there's just an endless void where I could screw to so we're going to end up welding that in building the tunnel and then just screwing some sheet metal in cuz you know we're going to half acid just cuz I know how to do it right doesn't mean I'm going to it just occurred to me that that might be galvanized metal I'm about to weld into this which of course when welded creates chlorine gas it will kill you so I guess we'll find out if I die it's tacked in there now I'm going to have to cut some more pieces to lay in and then we'll try to weld up these seams too just not a lot of car left here to weld to it's uh it's difficult to say the least there's a shifter box not bad put another piece in a here now it's not terribly sturdy but it's moving the whole damn transmission tunnel so I must have it stuck to something I'm going to take this moment right here to tell you about two things one pullar merch.com pick you up a shirt we got new Boogie van shirts hats the Hawaiian hat must have and also too this is going to be a multi-part build okay end goal here drive this thing to a beach somewhere which I'm in Missouri so the beach is pretty far away there's probably at least three parts on build building this car before it hits the road road uh maybe two might get it done in two this video is going to do well I know it's going to do well but watch the next one too well good morning we need more sheet metal I know just where to get some right there probably 10,000 square ft of good sheet metal here to use but I'm thinking the two squares on the trunk here that is basically two floor pans so let's snag that probably get this stuff out before we start making a bunch of [Applause] [Music] Sparks very interesting the convertible trunk option it's uh it's rare but you know not unheard of I marked out some spots here and where I think I need to cut and it's all eyeball and guess work it's the kind of thing that you just get with experience actually I'm still not very good at it get Mr Nibbler out here hey and we will go to [Music] town I got to get the seat out of this thing so I can put the floors in I was hoping I could snake them around it but I can't actually got one bolt out so we have three more to go hopefully they don't all break off three out of four broke that sucks but at least we could drill them out ow good God how do are so heavy and they're so little left there Mar that is a not insignificant amount of rat poop and Nest I think I found the rest of the seat H maybe we do go ahead and do the rear while we're here that a pack of cools well an empty pack of cools Kings I don't even think they make cool cigarettes anymore do they soft pack too [Music] I think I've kind of got this where I want it it's not bad we're still going to have to make an extra little kick up to get to the shifter here but let's build the whole floor and then we'll just tack in a little extra plate there I'm going to shoot some self tappers in it just to hold it in place for [Music] now looking pretty good the self tappers in it uh it's actually not half bad I'm actually I don't think I am going to throw any welds on it I just end up blowing holes so this is probably about as good as it gets uh but we will weld that part in cuz we can weld all new metal over there box that in brace up that shifter and then just you know make the rest of the floor pan out of that mercury so we got our shifter in here it's nice and sturdy now I got two self tappers just holding this plate in but we are going to go ahead and weld in this side plate I've made here move over Dave kig think I got you beat pretty convenient I can just stand up in here this is this is actually going to be pretty good that's Stout proud of myself okay just let me have my moment I heard accolades my order yeah good job look pretty cool isn't it very nice I like it you know the welding is horrible I can't get anything to stick to the sheet metal of this car there's just nothing left and that's fine see all the gaps that's no problem cuz we'll just cover it all up with kill mat and it'll be done so we'll get that later today I'm going to go ahead and knock out the rest of these floors might as well do it now I suppose because I'm a real monster I got this tub surround caulk on sale a while back so we'll use that as seam sealer that seems appropriate my process for doing this is maybe a little bit different than most um basically what I do is just stop giving a and I just you know put this up here oh it needs a bend in it somewhere in here and well the transmission tunnel it runs up what like something like this you know so what we'll do is cut a relief cut through that corner there that'll let us kind of fold it up and out of the way you know something like that is and you know that's uh that's just the way to do things you know it's not it's not perfect never going to be perfect it's fine it doesn't matter it's under here Who the hell's going to see it nobody and the convenient thing about these old cars is they all come with a built-in metal brake right here you just throw your knee into it a little bit like that little Bend going and then just five bit you know make sure make sure you never measure anything and just kind of Force things to fit and and you'll be just fine I mean this is the way and what you do is you get to the point where the thing will just kind of lay down for you in here and you take your big hammer and just and pretty soon before you know it you have tenius and also you have four pans not bad so I'll just go ahead and shoot the rest of this box self tappers into [Music] this there see how that allows both sides to lay down more cuz it can Flex that's a relief cut we need more metal the hood has lots in it but it's actually in pretty good shape so I'm going to save that for last cuz I wouldn't mind keeping this Hood but the roof on the other hand and we don't need that oh yeah look at just Acres of metal up [Music] [Applause] here like my ancestors for me we will use all parts of the Beast and let nothing go to waste yeah what a random rust in the yard weird huh it's Buff's van yeah buff your van all over my yard it's brand bantana blue look at that that's a thing of beauty right there now you know one thing you should remember here is that this is a body onframe car all the floor braces are good kind of the floors themselves are just I mean they're just there for you to sit on really they don't really do anything so this is actually pretty good also you might consider the fact that the car never came with seat belts if you reckon this you're going to die I mean does it really matter if the floors are screwed in or not you're still dead so in my book that makes it okay critically low on self tappers you must Harvest more from the Beast leing the hood alone for now I want to take the door [Applause] there we go a complete floor pan do it yourself with a 77 Mercury uh it's pretty awful but it will get the job done that's for sure so I drilled out all the holes for the seat uh except for this one I broke a drill bit off in he's not playing very nice so what I will do instead is I'm going to weld this bolt to the floor and then when we set the seat down it'll just be like a stud I've done this probably a dozen times in my life and it's worked at least three out of that dozen t a seat stud I have acquired a box of kill M this is sound editing material it's offbrand Dynamat but it's good stuff there's selfadhesive tiles you just peel the back off and stick them down this will all just disappear very soon so just like if you're doing tile in a house start from the mid work your way out foil backed be is what this is and you just stick it down and the stuff sticks to pretty much anything now they have like a little roller thing I think technically you're supposed to roll like all these things smooth but I never have and it's always worked pretty good for me so I don't know your mileage May VAR that starting in the middle only applies when the uh Liquid Nails is it still wet so you start on the front I'll start in the middle coming along nicely look at those uh perfectly rust free non 77 Mercury floors behold completion now nobody will ever know as long as I don't look underneath it thankfully this thing will sit low enough nobody will be able [Music] to with our floor is complete it's time to get on the brakes of this thing now fortunately I didn't realize until it was too late that this thing is missing three brake drums I bought two cuz I knew it was missing at least two I didn't know about the third so I don't know if that Mercury's rear brake drums might work I did order two more they're cheap so they're on their way but I'm afraid that one might burn us we got a lot of work to do in the meantime though master cylinder probably going to have to make all new brake lines for it and just start from scratch I'm going to does some cast iron high heat pain on these drums for style points you'll note it looks exactly the same just how I like it I like that iron look but I don't want them to rust well at least this assembly is made a lot easier for us uh it's done we're missing all the hardware this is going to be interesting I bought changeover kits for it I think that includes everything we need but we're kind of Flying Blind here these wheel cylinders are strange I just use this big nut here and that's what actually holds it on so let's soak the hell out of that usually they're not a problem but this one's been exposed to the elements forever well you know I'm going to say the wheel bearing might have been a little loose we'll put new bearings and seals in here as well get the hub off of here yeah these bearings are all bent screwed up put a gallon of super clean in this bucket here I'm going to throw this hub assembly in there and just kind of let it get clean you know stuff works really good just let it sit in there for about an hour you know my buddy Kevin over junkyard digs likes to use a bucket of gasoline which works really good too but I'm a smoker and that'll make me go boom I'm afraid so hey oh it worked I was trying it with a wrench that was not cutting it new wheel cylinder with new links got that much done we put our new hose on I was able to save the brake line that's something I'll take anything I can get tighten the N well I took this side apart in the hopes that there might have been some sort of reference to go off of but it's completely disassembled as well that's fantastic conveniently these Hardware kits from O'Reilly's don't have the nails you need to actually hang the shoe with I scrunched around and found these two I don't even know if these are the right ones they might work but uh yeah they got everything else in there including the cff washers that go around the nails but they don't have the nails and these pins aren't long enough of course I scratched through the whole damn car and there seems to be pretty much everything but those in there this might have the brake nails that we need these are definitely breaks oh no they're not oh they're the same oh in they're in good shape too and we can rob all the self-adjusting hardware out of these and at least get that on the front maybe H I also have that other LTD we could take apart solution even be able to use these brake drums they're in good shape it continues to give this thing's worth its weight and gold that doesn't look very good but I don't see any other alternative so it is what it is yeah you can see the back seat of the car from inside of here this is that we're just pointing that out for all the people who are going to whine about me tearing apart this land yacht only one alive spider good not even a bad kind this car also has Ford fulls siize drum brakes only on the rear we can rob them off of this it doesn't need him where it's going oh yeah I forgot this doesn't have shocks they're all there by God got the money's worth out of those of course last one I think it got painted on ah damn they got their money's worth out of that one too HH this Hardware is in exceptionally bad condition we'll put these on the back late 7s Ford break is the exact same thing they never changed them um I thought that was the case but it wasn't for certain but now we can assemble all of them with self adjusters which I think is an upgrade over over the uh Factory oo that's not quite in there there it goes that's a break I don't know if you need this part here this bar here I'm pretty sure that's just for parking brake applications I I don't know I've always just had something to put them back together with never had to put one together from scratch looks like front brakes don't use the spreader bar in the front at least that's what the Google said anyway I'm going to toss the other one together then we'll pack some bearings and slam the front together get to the rear I did was able to save both front brake lines which I'm very happy with I got to get the master cylinder line off and then the front to rear line we do have to make that one so no big deal though my good buddy the inevitable Jim Anderson uh said I needed one of these this is a brake adjusting tool here and basically I guess you just set your drum up like this right see how wide it is in the middle you just put it on your shoes here and then you adjust out until it hits that so I'll adjust these brakes out until it touches and your brakes are set yeah that's going to work so let's get the hubs out of the bucket of Goo over there clean them up put some new bearings in them new wheel seals and we slam the front end of this thing together and they're done not sure how good of an idea this was in hindsight hey just wipes right off now yeah maybe it was a good idea I a genius we'll press the studs out of these too go ahead and replace all the wheel studs cuz they look pretty bad that's something easy to do right now just so we don't have a pain in the ass later now I have a press I could use but frankly it scares the hell out of me so we'll use this I usually just install new wheel studs by using an old buug nut like the ones we took from that mercury need some washers on this one so I just run them down with the impact till they get sucked all the way through they sell they sell tools for this but I mean I don't know what the hell you need that for like a waste of money to me [Applause] so we got our new bearings here I'm going to pack them up the only reason I'm replacing them is I can replace them with what was in them for 63 years timkin still made in the USA still made with great quality and they're cheaper than some of the Chinese ones out there I love tempkin bearings it's not a no sponsorship here I don't want one I just believe in their product so I believe in it so much we don't need these races who know why would we do that get them all packed up with some high temp here scrape it through the palm of my hand till you see the Grease come out the front side and in between the rollers and these should be good for another 63 years so we'll put our new wheel seal in here get it tapped in refurbished good to go realized that we were missing a grease cap from this side here well sure enough I went out to the Mercury there the same thing just about same diameter so the Mercury provides yet again every nickel and dime counts here that's why we're going to be able to build this car pretty reasonably cheap we'll get it set up on the spindle here adjusted correctly easier to do when there's no drum on it what I like to do here is just crank them down all the way that kind of sets everything gets it all squeezed down seated yeah like that and I back it off basically I just go till it starts to get snug and go to the next hole put our Cotter key in here bend it over snap it off call it a day yeah see if I got that Braker I'm adjust it halfway right oh good I didn't beautiful now this front to rear brake line's busted so I'm going to knock this out here go ahead and run a new hard line all the way back we got a new rubber hose here that goes into the te back here I reckon we probably ought to go ahead and replace both axle lines that you know they're going to break we might as well just do it we got lucky on the front you never get lucky on the rear that's supposed to be attached at the spring and it's not uh they're pretty broken so I'm soaking them and there are some Springs that came with it so we'll go ahead and change them out too while we're here but uh brakes first let's do brakes first one catastrophe at a time the rear rubber line on these you take this little brass tea off the rear end and uh you just replace the Rubber and you reuse the brass you don't really think anything about it except for you know that little piece of brass there is 63 years old and you just reuse it without even thinking about it right isn't that kind of amazing you know somebody cast that machined it 63 years ago and it'll be around for another 100 years you think any you think any we make today would last that long not a chance yeah I think it was due for some wheel cylinders new brake line there front to rear line is ran still going to run the passenger over to the te last line here man look at that it's beautiful what a thing of beauty even an ignoramus like me gets it right sometimes get chili out here this little dude is the balance bar and from all the pictures I've seen on the Google that goes on the rear brakes but it's awfully close to the axle I don't you know like I think it's going to hit there must be some some kind of slight difference you know for this bar as opposed to the earlier backing plate maybe probably don't need these you know really optional I can I can determine that cuz I'm kind of an expert so it's a those are optional unfortunately the drums for the Marquee and the LTD I guess they're five on five pattern not 4 and 1/2 I don't know weird I tried to put it on It Don't Fit I could drill the holes out but since the center Hub diameter is also bigger there would be nothing to Center the drum and I'm afraid that'd be all kinds of wobbly and probably not worth the risk well I guess I'll move to the master cylinder here brake light switch out try to salvage this brake line if we can no way this Brake's free right oo salvaged any day I don't have to make a brake line is a good day except for the new master cylinder doesn't even resemble the old one so maybe I will have to make one also you might notice look at the factory 460 air cleaner and that look sharp on me yeah this is the only one they listed for this I don't think that adapter will work in this oh boy hopefully I got one otherwise I'll have to go to the parts store and get a glazed over look as I ask for some obscure master cylinder part I better not throw this away just in case oh God I really hope we don't have to rebuild this that's not going to work very good that one doesn't even bolt to the firewall the same and the freaking threads aren't even the right size on it and after some uh minor modifications it fits great on there that's never going to work I'm going to need to order a rebuild kit right now actually would you look at that that is a master cylinder for a 65 Mustang and it has a 1in boore size and it sure looks an awful lot like that one oh I'm going to order one of these give it a shot it's got our brake light switch Port good morning it's another average morning of the poleart household where I woke up and then found a car I have to buy it's got a seat maybe some glass uh brake drums so should have everything we need well here it is the 60 Galaxy uh we just bought it from Rusty's Auto Sales in Flat City Reserve if you need a car apparently he has the 550 bucks for this thing couldn't pass that up now she's a Galaxy she's fully loaded it's got all the trim we need can dig the interior it's why I bought it it's it's not great but that seat is a hell of a lot better than what we got plus it's got door panels all the dash trim and stuff for the fancier Car steering wheel center I mean this car just paid for itself even the windshield's usable oh and also the spotlight I mean come on that's got to go on that wagon that's like a legit Barney 5 Spotlight there dolphin no dolphin get back get back no I'm going to go work on brakes on the wagon JD we need this Fender uh this Grill is like perfect too so start dismantling as you will hey look one brake Tri that's a rear too good shape actually I wonder if there's any in the trunk o does it have keys we don't have those um no it does not check the glove box in the ash tree here's a gun case or something it is it's a rifle case h I think or golf clubs I don't know I can drill it out yeah I got the trunk open on this cuz I wanted to see if there was a brake drum in it but no brake drum really nothing very good in here just some engine brackets and stuff deet nice though if somebody needed one I even got that off without damaging it I'm sure that's worth a small fortune Jess is going to work on seeing what the hell we even have in here and we have a lot of parts now we have a whole another car surely we can pull this off would you look at this the Mustang master cylinder is exactly the same thing as the original master cylinder so it's not that they don't carry the right parts it's that they are too stupid to list them correctly it's even the right size B everything this should work just fine I don't know why it wouldn't JD how's the seat going pretty good one more bolt it's just bar a man look at this floor mat that's the original floor mat yeah I know too bad it's ripped yeah I know we could probably it's still kind of usable we might want that we could probably do something with God this back seat's so nice know I don't think we can use it I you took the bottom out yeah it's really nice but I don't think we could use it in the wagon seats nice too yeah it's not bad got the day night mirror in it we need that that's cool I could use some of this on my car yeah all those knobs and stuff you can have them I think I O and the O that's cool I like that this yeah yeah that needs to go on the on the wagon definitely got Jess running after some break fluid right now I'm going to try to unbolt that leaf spring hell yeah go free all wow well there's that uh now what do I do there's nothing left of that yeah it's kind of amazing that that even came out I figured I'd be cutting these off for sure that free all is good stuff man look at that got another one nice that's really good actually yeah you're not supposed to reuse uh U bolts but you you're not supposed to do a lot of things so well here we are jeez to get that front bolt out through the frame take a tie out from that so you can behold my absolutely genius bench bleeding setup here really incredible although I really need to get that line below the fluid level but it works pretty good that bolt ain't budging I guess it's time to get violent oh I've had a new plan I can't get that bolt out so maybe we just leave that bolt and instead just replace the two bottom leaves in the spring pack with two more used leaves if as long as I can get that bolt out right here which looks like it's in quite a bit better shape I mean what's the difference we're just putting old leaves in it anyway screw it to the junk pot oh let's go shopping shall we let's see uh let's see short side goes to the front remember that future me this is called resourcefulness and this is why I'm the real budget Channel on YouTube a lot of people like to pretend not here I'm actually desperate I did get that YouTube payday though you won't go to McDonald's for dinner yeah my treat I'm going to get a medium friy no don't get ahead of yourself now woman in my absolute genius Andor hoarding disorder I did keep these spring pack isolator things around from the Mustang to we did Jess's car they actually are the exact width as this car here and they're more Universal you just slide them on like this then you tap them over and bend them over to fit and that's all there is to it how goes the poop it's disgusting actually pretty horrible any more big turds no they went down there oh smells good in here now it's that Mrs Meyers stuff just scrub that area and that's what you get a God I'm trying to clean the threads up on this centering bolt here the fine threads were so rolled I don't think I could save them so I'm going to cut them coarse and see what that looks like so that actually worked pretty well I don't know I'm going to give that a shot that worked concerningly well now I'm going to clean up the original UB bolts and try to find some nuts to fit those I might as well clean them up and probably find some new nuts I probably got that though so cost zero well I suppose we got to put some shocks on this thing huh front and rear mostly rear because they're not there a couple El chipo kybs here and some elapo FCS shocks for the front at least those are in good shape we'll just reuse those instead of trying to deal with removing them but we can use our shiny new hardware here so it looks like we replaced them ah yeah look at that well I'm getting ready to do front shocks here rears are done uh once Jess is done cleaning up inside we'll go ahead and bleed brakes but I was thinking I was like man that tie rod looks bent so this whole this entire front steering assembly was in the car but this one is also the same way I think that's just the way they are some of that slot might be this uh the Pitman ARB isn't actually bolted to it um H why why do people do this why why just start taking things apart missing a Cotter key there I don't see anything wrong with it it seems everything I mean it's missing a boot here but everything seems tight I I think it's fine why mess with it I'm just going to Snug all these up put some Cotter keys in them and grease them all maybe we'll go ahead and separate this one and get a boot on it since we have them but I don't think there's anything actually wrong with any of this stuff that's fixed now now never mind whatever idiot tore this all apart decided to just leave the Cotter key in there and break it off in there so I'll drill that out real quick how's this going way less poopy oh oh good another fiddle back dead that's a brown Reckless yeah for's not around here mhm FAL backs I just pulled a boot off of that old linkage there that'll work just fine to seal this back up well let me try to drill out this Cotter key too idiots who's probably one of those guys like I'm going to put a Pete and Jake's front end in that I'm going to spend $50,000 on this $500 station wagon I've been trying to drill these out and I can't do it what I can do is put some red locktite on the nuts cinch them down and then try to double nut them and then we'll just ignore it and live in Blissful ignorance yeah just uh you know little red lock tight I feel real bad for the guy who has to take this apart future Dalton's going to be pissed yeah you see this don't do this uh ever actually it's solid advice it should work it'll hold them and that nut will prevent it from backing off I don't know I mean it'll work maybe one day I can find all the right stuff for it not that stuff that stuff's wasted with that out of the way let's go ahead just grease everything and then ignore everything we saw we got the back seat up so Jess is going to clean that it's in fairly decent shape good enough to cover with a blanket anyway hi I'm going to get front shocks put in this thing they are of course stuck so what you do is you get you a long extension and the 9/16 socket and then you just bend it back and forth till the top of the shock snaps off there we go it's old school but it works good well on a scale of laughable to never you think these bolts are going to come out one what I'm shocked I'm legitimately shocked get it shocked unsubscribe now super clean and a scrubby actually working really well I didn't think that thing was going to come back at all better go order your scrubbies what's your Etsy she saided creative shop there you go she just makes those look how how many colors it actually has wow there's L Brown isn't it great well I'm going to throw some sway bar links at this thing the shocks are in that's done it definitely needs the sway bar links they're in pretty bad shape check that out with new sway bar bushings this thing is basically completely rebuilt in the front end good to go it'll last on a several thousand Mile Drive I don't know if it's going to go vom this time this is a major project we're taking on but we're we're getting there end goal with this car two videos from now probably we're going to drive this thing to Galviston Texas because Jess has never seen the ocean so I mean that's it that's that's that's the reason so you I I don't need any other reason I guess that said we still have work to do holy crap look at these guys look how color they are now oh that's like Ivory all right let's bleed some brakes you kind of sealed in there at least it's clean let's see how many leaks we end up with just pump about five times and hold that was quick H that worked alarmingly well all right off I'm going to make the dangerous assumption that the rear brakes are good drums on the front of these are a pain can't hardly get a wrench in them see I can tell by the foaminess of that fluid that there's air in it what's the verdict feel like brakes they're brakes it's not bad why was that so easy I'm alarmed actually that's not bad at all that could stop a vehicle I bet you can see the drum moving and the way I always tell is if I let it rest first pump goes about that far the second pump should also go that far and the third and the fourth and the fifth if they pump up you got air in the lines but if they don't pump up that's just the way the pedal is we're trying to figure out a way to put this fuel cell in there and it probably will fit but it's going to take some fabric I just found this what is it says rust inhibitor and water pump lubricant is there anything in it yeah oh no we got to see o what is it oh spiders yeah it's rust inhibited it's a goo of some sort all right well I think the last thing for tonight is we're going to try to get the front sheet metal setting on the front of the car in the Wheelhouse there but that's pretty much where it goes nice nice car look at that motor right there it's cool yeah so that looks really cool in there but also is really tall and also radiator issues man I I better go electric fan just to be safe I think it might fit cuz look that Ridge back here where that weather strip is that's where the hood sits and if you look at it here it's got just enough clearance I tell you what back in the day when they bolted a car together they bolted a car together this thing's got to have 50 bolts holding it on that'll clip broke on that one all right let's see if we can straighten this up a bit Salvage the patina got this laid out on some of this insulation here hopefully keep from scratching it too much basically I'm just going to try to find the highest point of that Kink there and beat the hell out of it now we just have kind of a crinkle old Fender that's okay it's kind of what I was I feel pretty dumb doing this I'm not going to lie when I have a much better Fender over there but just because it's a different color I'm not going to put it on the car this will work for now once we've got it off it'll be easy to swap it for a better Fender later uh when we do paint the car that's not that bad I mean I can live with that hell it's even fixable really so maybe we just leave it on here and I'll fix it later uh doesn't have any rust in it really just some pin holes screw it and by screw it I mean we're going to shoot a self Tapper in right here just like the factory did and uh that holds the cow panel but I think that'll also help us just align all these bolts up let's bolt it on and we'll call that done our door Gap is a little bit tight at the bottom back there so what I'm going to do lift it up and then put a couple of shims in at the front of the fender here yeah we got a bit of a gap now it ain't perfect but these cars were never perfect understand they were slammed together and shipped out the door as fast as possible dare I say it's even aligned reasonably well I'm trying to take my time with this one you know and give it the you that little extra bit that makes all the difference in a car most of the sheet metal clips and weld nuts that originally attached this Fender are gone and that would leave only one real professional solution for it and that's to self Tapper every single one we're just going to go to town here this will hold the whole car together I've done it a lot unless I'm missing something it would appear that there's just one bolt right here in the middle that holds the whole front end of the car I'm going to shift this over to where it looks even and I'm just going to zap this on right now we may have to come back and readjust this when we put the hood on but for now I think it's okay go ahead and get our Dura spark box mounted up here I think it'd be pretty cool to have all the factory wiring out of that mercury now we can bolt this through the in Fender just like the factory did boom looks like Factory that's what I want I hate to do this but I think we're going to have to cut it off here and if you want to hear this thing go vroom you're going to have to stay tuned next week we'll still be working on this uh this car is going to Galveston Texas we're going to go there cuz Jess has never seen the ocean before so going to drive this all the way there it's about 11 hours maybe uh I want to see some friends along the way but obviously we got a lot more work to do yet we need a cooling system a fuel system interior of some kind and we got to wire the whole thing not to mention tires and uh all kinds of stuff so here's what I need from you guys I need you guys to go to pbar merch.com pick you up a boogie band shirt now after you've done that what I really need you to do was just tune in next week okay these longer builds here don't always do that well uh I would like to change that I'd like to be able to build a car in maybe two or three videos and then road trip it somewhere and we could just follow that format you know let me know if that's something you want to see uh and tell everybody you know about it CU that'll help uh so we'll see you guys next week on P bar garage with this wagon again and it should be running by then no problem in fact I'm going to go edit this video right now and then it's right back to work on this to the wall all right so we'll see you guys next time goodbye
