[Music] [Applause] [Applause] hello everybody even says me and today's video is going to be a yard hacks so if you would have seen one of my vlogs I posted a few weeks back I actually did a photo shoot with pony magazine and what we're doing the photo shoot we actually took some photos for their article on yard hacks so there are lots of different ones in their article as well so if I go and check out pony Mac I'll leave a link in the description below and they've also very kindly sponsored today's video so in today's yard hacks video I actually have a few of my own that I use day-to-day which we help out with my equestrian life doing all the like yard chores barn chills that kind of thing but also some of them I actually asked over on my Instagram page at this underscore sv and asked you guys like what bond hacks you guys use like because thing is with this video I thought you know what why don't we get every sort of bond hack sort of thing from all across the world and put it into one video because quite a few of these I've heard of or I use and some of them are actually brand new to me that I've never heard of before and it's really helped me like speed up things and some of them I don't know if they're myths or not so stay tuned in the video to see me checking them out anyway let's get on with the video so the first yard hack you guys should probably know if you've watched all of my videos and that is my hose pipe one so for example if I'm filling up Mickey's water bucket like I am now just outside is stable I'm quite far away from the actual tap I can't reach to turn it off so if I'm filling it up and it's turn up the hose pipe all you have to do is squeeze it and then it will cause a kink in the hose pipe so the pressure is a lot lower so it means that a lot less water is coming out from this end so it means I can quickly run back and turn the tap off without water getting all over the art so my next hack is actually using a bucket again so is another bucket hack so this one you can actually if you have an old water bucket and maybe has got hole in and you can't use it anymore then you can actually recycle it and use it for this hack so this one actually used to be Casper's old water bucket so what you can do you can actually use a hay net put it in the bucket so if any of you guys find this but especially you maybe that's coming up to autumn it's getting darker on the winter nights and it's just sometimes you just struggle making a hay net and I always find that sometimes you feel like you're shoving the hay into the haina but it's just not going in so what you can actually do is get the edge of the hay net and sort of wrap it around the buckets so then you can shut the hay in so now my hay net has been made and that was actually so much more easy because you don't have to worry about having one hand like holding the hay now open the other hand like shoving it in the hay net it was just a lot easier to have both my hands as well so another little hack or something my friends do it's actually using a hula hoop and serve an old bucket so maybe you guys have a hula hoop around just in your house you can actually use that and wrap it around the holes here to make to use it kind of like the bucket but we'll say something that I just find easier is when your hay net is just all sprawled out and you want to sort of pull it to make it all go together I always wind it gets the knot at the end gets all tangled in this bit so if you're pulling it to make it close just so it's quicker if you always pull it by the knot it just means all goes together and makes the whole sort of smaller and easier to tie up and everything so if the next hack is actually something I use every single evening when I put Mickey to bed in his stable and make his hay net and that is don't just use one hay net use two now I'm not saying give Mickey - hey let's because if he did I think his tummy would explode he would eat them so quickly so what I actually do is because Mickey's so greedy I actually double bag his hay net so it means that there's they're smaller holes you can get hay nuts with smaller holes but if you don't and you do have the money it's like via a whole new heina then just use two old ones and double bag them and it just means that the holes are smaller so he can get less hay out as quickly and he doesn't get as chubby so the next tag is about hay again but this time is when you don't have a pair of scissors and you don't have a knife around and you need to open a bed love hey but you have no utensils so it's something you probably will find near a bale of hay is a piece of baler twine now I know some people call it baling twine some people call it baler twine let me know how you call it in the comments below I've heard of being called lots of different things some people call it baling string or baler string whatever so here I have some baler twine that's what I call it so what you can actually do is if you come down here so this bale of hay here is tied up using baler twine and it's pretty tight I've actually tried at points where I haven't had any better twine with me to try and sort of wiggle it around but it is so difficult and time-consuming so what you can actually do if we don't have a knife or scissors around is use another piece of baling twine wrap it underneath and using the power of friction it causes the string to actually snap so if I show you so yeah there we go the hay bale is now opened just using another piece of Vegas wine I know some of you guys might already know this hack but when I first found out about this back when I was under 8 or 9 it absolutely blew my mind and maybe some of you guys who've just started riding a ride at a riding school and don't really make hay nuts or anything very often then this hack it's perfect I just use it all the time now so this next hack I used to absolutely use all of the time when I used to work at a local stables and that is because I couldn't even do the hose pipe hack because the hose pipe used to be so far away from the horses stables so what I would have to do is I found that it was so difficult having to carry a full bucket of water especially for your back as well when it's so heavy um I used to sometimes get a friend to help me carry it but also like oh that is some weight so instead of doing that which is obviously really bad for your back you can grab something that's hanging around the stables a leader what you can actually do which is so useful is just wrap the lever around the hole in the bucket and instead of lift up the bucket which can be really bad for your back all you can do is just walk along with your back nice and straight good posture and just drag it so the next hack is actually something that I get asked all of the time and that is how do I tie up from my lead ropes so if you would have seen in my tack room tour when I put my lead ropes away I actually like to wrap them up and it just means that they're not dangling everywhere it just makes the tack room look a lot tidier and also maybe if you're going on a hack then you can just like clip on to your saddle and just have it there as an emergency rope if you need it so what I actually do is I just put a hair color or something I can click this onto just on the side of a fence hanging up somewhere and I'll just clip it on as I would do and then what you actually do is you get a piece of I don't it depends on how long the lead rope is how how long you need to sort of fold it across for but usually I'd say about that much so maybe just a hand and a bit maybe 100 a few inches and then all you need to do is just wrap it all the way around do-do-do-do-do-do you and then when you gets near the end what you need to do is just push that last little bit up and then really wrap it around so it's all nice and condensed together and then there will be like a little loop at the end and then with the end of your rope if you just pop it through the loop and then pull it through your lever it is now all tied up and it will stay that way so I have another bucket hack and lightest any of you guys who have a slightly cheeky Pony a bit like one of the ones that we own Mickey for example so what Mickey did for about a week here every single night is stable he doesn't do any war thankfully but he would for some reason decide it would be a great idea every night to put his whole leg hoof everything into the bucket tip it over and then it would be like a monsoon of water it would go all over his stable his shavings would be dripping wet and also he would be very thirsty in the morning because he wouldn't have any water left so one solution to this is you can use a timer and we actually used a tire for a few weeks and after those few weeks Mickey realized that no he can't tip his water bucket over anymore he actually stopped tipping it over so now I just think he thinks that his water bucket just can't fall over anymore so he hasn't done it since which has been great so I've saved some money on shavings as well because he hasn't flooded and stable anymore and this hat can work with a feed bucket as well so yet again Mickey had a period of time where he decided that it would be a great idea to knock over his feed bucket every time I give him his feed and tip it all over his stable because for some reason he decided it would be a great idea to eat his food off the dirty stable floor rather than his nice and clean freshly washed out feed bucket don't know I just think he fancied licking the floor for some reason so again we use a tire for a little bit and he hasn't done it since which has been great as well so another tyre hack is actually if you don't have any cavities at your yard or stables what you can do is use a tire and then place a pollen on it and you can actually use it as like a raised cha-ching pole or a raised can't pole whatever you want it to be and you can get creative if you don't have any tires I had an instructor that would go to power plant or if you're American the dollar store Dollar Tree or whatever it's called and basically you can get potties from that if I sound a little bit strange I'm highly potties work really well as raised achtung poles as well ok so the next hack is actually one I use really often especially in the summer and it's a really hot day because for some reason Casper just has a thing where he is so fussy with his water like his bucket has to be pristinely cleaned out even if it is sometimes he just doesn't want to drink from it as they say you can take a horse to water but you can't force it to drink so bribe them with food instead so what I do is actually get loads of apples and I put them in the water bucket and then Casper does apple-bobbing say when he's bobbing for the apples it means that he is drinking some of the water while he's doing it which is brilliant games drink water also I've had that some people put apple juice in water so it's a bit more tasty for them especially if you're going to a stay-away show and they just don't like drinking out of a bucket for some reason Casper much prefers drink out of the water trough I don't know why he just does and then I've also got another hack and that is for all of you guys in England when it gets to the winter and sometimes it's so cold especially it's freezing the water buckets can actually become frozen so then your horse has no water which isn't great obviously for all the people in the extreme weather conditions such as in like Canada where you get proper snow every year we don't get this way and maritime temperate just normal sort of brainy England brainy all year pretty much so when we do get snow or really cold weather then we are not prepared for it so what you can actually do to any of my British peeps out is get tennis bullet actually have one on me so we're gonna pretend with this Apple obviously you want a ball that your horse isn't gonna actually eat because I can imagine Mickey doing that very much so what you can do is you can put the ball in the water and it actually prevents it from freezing over obviously if it does get really cold then it might freeze over but at sort of like negative degrees like if it's not too cold but cold enough that it would probably freeze over then it sort of prevents it freezing as much having a ball so that is another little tip so I'll say I think I like a lot of these hacks for people who have water buckets so apologies to all the fantasy people out there that have automatic water drinkers whatever they're called in barns and things but yes so this will definitely help out anyone who has a water bucket issues so this next hack I used to absolutely use all the time when I used to ride at my local riding school and that is when you have your heart you have your body protector you have your stick you have your gloves all the things that you need to ride with and if you're just like walking around carrying them all it's just really difficult and bulky having them all separate and just hanging around I also use this hack a lot camp when I was carrying things and you can actually use a stick as a clothes hanger and why is that a little bit strange but what you can do is if you thread it through the body protector and also thread your helmet through as well or you can just undo the clip on the helm it really doesn't matter which way you do it and then you can hang everything from your stick and also you can put your gloves in your helmet I always put my gloves in my helmet like wherever I go is just something I've always done it's just so then the gloves don't get lost it's just easier to put them there and then you literally have everything in one hand easy to go you can put it on pick it up and you just got it by one little handle so you for these next couple of hacks I actually need a volunteer so I've got Mickey here helping us out for this video so for the next hack is actually when you can't find a sweat scraper now I had this so much especially over the summer when I was home to both casts were quite a bit because he got so sweaty especially after rides and I just kept 'miss placing my sweat scraper I just kept forgetting where I'd put it so I came up with some inventive ways insert if you couldn't find a sweat scraper so one of them is actually using a magic brush or some sort of plastic curry comb so I will show you so I just need to get Mikki a bit wet sorry love there we go it's a bit of a neck wash so what you can actually do is if you use the plastic bit on a magic brush or plastic curry comb then actually gets quite a lot of water off if you use it like that like a slight scraper there we go well Mickey sort of getting a bit wet so my next hack is actually a sponge hack surprise surprise and know is not to have loads in different colors and funky shapes it's actually to use instead of baby wipes now I know a load of you guys love using baby wipes I used to love using them too because they were so handy just to get out and use if you need to make quick little touch-ups but baby wipes are so bad for the environment because almost all of them contain single-use plastic so this means if soon Steve use one of those baby wipes that baby wipe goes into landfill and because it's made of plastic it doesn't get destroyed for hundreds and thousands of years so instead of using baby wipes use sponges so I've actually recently been using a lot of my sponges that I've obtained from my own making you say thanks for the sponges guys but I've been I've basically have a different sponge for every different use so this one is my tack cleaning sponge so it means I can use different sprays for different sponges for different uses so I also have one that's an antibacterial spray in the sponge that I use for like wiping down the countertop in the feed room and obviously all the other sort of sprays I have as well so my next hack is actually one that I've heard a lot of you guys used and if you don't have any hoof all around you can actually use vegetable oil or olive oil I've heard yeah yeah the skin on your hooves then I know it's not for eating don't give it a lick attack and also something else that I've used before if you don't have an actual hoof oil brush is you can use an old paintbrush obviously you might not want to use all that paint on that probably won't but here I just have one just if you just have one hanging around you can use that as well so I'm going to you can't eat oil so I actually have another oil hot glue you guys and this is something actually do every winter especially like now it's autumn things and it's becoming the mud season especially here in England where basically the whole fields just become mud and for Mickey here being a little chrome ello he struggles a little bit with the mud especially as he has a really sensitive skin and say what we actually do is we get some baby oil and I shirt to put it in a spray bottle just cuz I find the application is easier and you spray on his legs and then acts as a barrier to the mud so it means that when the mud goes on his legs it's just a lot easier to brush off because you have the oil barrier there yeah so my next hack is one I use quite often which I find actually really useful and that is to use a toothbrush you want at cleaning now it sounds really simple but it makes such a huge difference especially all the little nooks and crannies I always find on your saddle especially these little gaps here they just get so much dirt in the cracks and everything it's just difficult to clean so if he use a toothbrush you can get in those gaps really easily and just make sure it's all nice and clean now something else which is good to do maybe every couple of weeks when you do a really good deep clean of all of your tack is change your stirrup leathers over now this might sound a little bit strange if you haven't heard of this one before but especially if you get on your horse on the left-hand side every single time you ride it can actually cause your stirrup leather to stretch especially if you don't get on with a mountain block which isn't great then means that your stirrup leathers are uneven so if for example you have a GP saddle and you like to put your stirrups up for jumping and down for dressage can be quite difficult and mean that sometimes it feels like you'll step leathers that on even so if you swap them around every now and again it just means that they both get stretched equally when you get on and then you don't have to worry about number hole well for example being the same as 13 when they're on different holes but they feel the same thing so I have another stirrup lever hack and this was what I used to use all the time again when I used to work at local stables I actually used to help the lesson kids get on the horses do some leading and things but anyway one of the things was obviously there are lots of different people riding lots of different ponies and lots of different people have different size lengths of legs so to check to see how long around in the ballpark range what length your stirrup leathers should be is if you put your arm out especially if your stirrup leather is connected to a saddle mine obviously isn't is the length of your arm is pretty much the length you should have your stirrup leather as mine's a little bit longer just because these are my dressage stirrups but yeah I find that that's pretty accurate and it does work the majority of the time obviously it might change depending if you're jumping or if you're doing dressage some people like to have slightly longer stirrups and short stirrups but ya find it works pretty well okay so I've done all of the hacks that I sort of no not before do regularly but this last one a lot of you guys were telling me about and that is to use ketchup on your grey horse's tail to make it white or brighter or cleaner any of those kind of things and I've never tried this before I don't know this is a myth and people were literally just telling me to do it and I'm just being gullible I'm just gonna cover Mickey's tail in tomato sauce for no reason or if it actually works so let's try it out okay so to test this out for science thanks Mick I'm gonna fill the dust everywhere okay so to test this out for science what I thought I would do is actually put his tail into two so one piece I'm going to put the ketchup on and the other piece I'm not going to use and then I can compare in color and see if it's the same color or if one is lighter than the other so I'm actually gonna just tie up now okay so I'm just tying a little bunch in Mickey's tail right now I tried to make it as evenly as possible between the thickness of the two sides so I think that aside with the hair tie on is the side that I'm actually going to cut the ketchup on so we'll see how it goes I've also brushed his tail through it's also not really that yellow I get a lot of people ask me about oh do you like wash your horse's tail really often because they're always really clean but they just seem to stay pretty clean anyway I don't really know how but his tail is pretty white but you can kind of see if I put the tips near the top it is quite yellow in comparison so we'll see if we catch up cleanser I'm still not really sure about this this seems pretty wild putting ketchup on your horse's tail but I guess the science I'll give it a go this looks so gross okay you got to rub it in I guess you guys okay time to put a bit more on there we go okay oh it's so gross the rubbing your empire it looks like I'm doing some sort of Halloween thing if this doesn't work I will not be happy guy oh I don't want to do like too little so it doesn't work oh gosh it just smells like tomatoes try not to get it on the verge okay so Mickey is now a redhead I am loving the red tail he's going for hair but I think it's a look that's gonna last forever so now it's time to wash it out I have let it settle a little bit with the ketchup in it so now it's time to see the proof in the pudding will actually become lighter or will it stay in red because if it does I will not be happier with you guys oh gosh okay time to give it a little rinse off in a bucket of water so I can't see a bit of a difference very subtly this side here which is the ketchup side is a little bit lighter it's definitely a bit less yellow I don't know it's that's just because slightly pink from the ketchup if that of pinkness has removed the yellow but I think if I were you I'd stick to using blue shampoo on your Gray's okay everybody I really hope you enjoy today's video also thanks to Mickey for being a great sport as well and also thanks to you guys over on Instagram who very kindly gave me a few ideas for today's equestrian life hacks for you I actually have quite a few that I haven't filmed in today's video just if not you'll be way too long so if you'd like to see a part two or have any ideas for a part two then let me know in the comments below so I really hope you guys enjoyed today's video if you're new or have not done so already please subscribe and like today's video as I really do appreciate it and it really does help me out thank you so much for watching and I'll see you guys next time bye you're really enjoying that Mallick argument [Music] [Applause] [Music]
