okay so this is rye ryegrass it started to head out a little bit this piece here and that we're doing we're gonna bail this and this is where we um we did some green chopping in this little piece and it started to grow back the rye grass started growing back before we planted the corn so we decided let it grow a little bit longer and then we'll bail it for the young heifers so we let it grow and this is pretty much what it looks like now we mowed it three or four days ago and it's you can tell when it's ready as it kind of has this crispness to it so that's perfect for railing we're actually going to square bail this little square bales so that's what we're doing today we're gonna square rail this and probably pick them all up this should be interesting [Music] so [Applause] [Music] a baby bale [Music] so so we're bailing uh it's actually sucking cut into rye grass so it's the first of june and we're bailing second cup [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] now we go down to unload it oh you had a big walk she walked all the way to the field that is what we got so far now we gotta fit the rest of it in here instead of here on the edge i'll grab them two of us will grab them and put them up [Music] fresh treat here we will be bailing this in a couple days they're talking 90 degrees with the wind this weekend so we have plenty of drying weather going on and this should get nice and dry very fast so i think oh hold on just had a tree there i think first cutting is going to be a little bit shorter this year due to the lack of rain that we've had [Music] we have been so dry which is so weird for us here in michigan that the grass and the hay has not had a lot of growing time it hasn't had the moisture to grow so this field that that i'm mowing right now is mostly a grass um field it's got different grasses that we planted and it's not very tall so i'm not sure how many bales we're going to get we'll be um we'll be large we'll be bailing this in large squares so we'll wait and see how much this amounts to so we let the hay dry for a couple days and it's dry now ethan came in and raked it this morning and now this afternoon kevin is working at bailing it yeah so this isn't all of our first cutting it's just one um field it's it's more than one field but it's one area we felt like we didn't have enough time to do all of one cotton in just one day and since they were talking rain which they're talking rain today it's very overcast it's very humid so yes it could rain since we didn't feel like we had enough time we only did this area um we'll go out and do the rest of the farms which are further away um probably another day when we have an open stretch of dry weather again so hopefully we get some rain though because we could definitely use the rain i'm going to show you ethan he was raking it i got a little bit of video of that and then i'll show you kevin bailing in so [Music] today somebody decided to ride with me and bail it so um we have a bb 940 new holland it's got a 28 793 bales on it so it's been a pretty good old baler for us since the 2001. we do uh maybe about a thousand a year with it so but i priced out a new one and they're expensive so we'll keep running this one but we're bailing some grass hay for the dry cows heifers on some really dry ground um corn don't do real well here so that's why we kind of keep it uh grass that way we at least get a decent cutting in the spring and if you get water you get a nice cutting in the fall like mid-summer and depends on the weather but we're uh we're bailing two two windrows together or two rows together which is a 16 foot cup with our hay mines that'll be 32 foot of hay at a time making a turn yeah he calls it burning up i call it drying up but yeah there just hasn't been that much moisture to keep it growing [Music] so it's kind of short then i don't know if you got it i don't think it's really thin it's just wow it's short it's not that so yeah this is some really dry dirt it's been a really dry spring so typically i mean i think we're going to be probably a third less than what we normally do a third less yeah i'm thinking we could be in that range in the third last maybe even more i don't know i think but it's awesome and how big are the males and the bales um this baler makes a three foot by three foot and we have them set at uh eight foot length right now how long can they go one into one how short can they go ah is it can they make like a one foot oh yeah oh i don't know what you do with it i don't either that would be an odd that's a shame you can make like a three by three by three yeah we've done uh for some people yeah we've done three by three by four fonts for some people because they can roll them around by hand real easy they're easier than the new bird yeah these bales here like this grass this is kind of like a fine grass they'll probably weigh about 600 pounds but we've done fewer alfalfa and we've had them way up to nine nine about nine and a quarter so it just depends on the on the crop that we're putting through the baler making another turn and better look back to make sure it's still on and uh yeah straw bales typically that depends varies too if it's like a real fine cut straw we can get up to probably 500 to 550 in them but if it's like a strawberry straw that comes out of a walker that's got straw walkers and stuff and it's maybe maybe about four fifty to five and just keep that done the finer it is the more we get seems to pack in weight lives there you have it words of wisdom from the white one oh all yeah let's say i went down back up and then i'll jump out [Music] you
