welcome to another Baldur's gay three video I thoroughly experienced all the companions you can meet in act 1 since I've played all of Early Access now about four times I've picked up on some knowledge on how to create a party that meshes well together this video is going to be divided into two main parts to different classic types that have a diverse skill set and getting companions that fit together morally let's begin with mechanical diversity since there's a lot to say I love thinking about combinations I can create to make a well-rounded group and so I've found four overarching types of characters that are good to check off your list when creating a party having all four of these will give you the most options both in and out of combat The Arcanist this includes Wizards warlocks and Sorcerers these classes are spellcasters whose role in the parties primarily to blow people up of course they get a bunch of amazing utility spells too like Greece or Charm person but they distinguish themselves the most with their access to area of effect spells the moment you unlock shatter and Fireball you unlock a new Part of Yourself seeing those high damage roles hitting five goblins at once it just feels good these AOE spells and crowd control abilities really help to manipulate the battlefield outside of some exceptions at higher levels most other classes can't deal with many enemies at once in the early game with low HP enemies you'll feel like a God of destruction in battle position these characters far away and Blast From Afar the roguish yeah I wasn't very creative with the name the Rogue and the ranger are the two classes that benefit the most from sneaking around with both of them you can pick up Proficiency in sleight of hand and stealth remember hiding lets you pickpocket and gain advantage on enemies while you remain unseen you'll need sleight of hand or Thief stools if you want to be able to open up doors that get between you and loot there's a crazy amount of locks and traps in this game so make sure to grab every thief's tools and disarming kit you find along the way I think the roguish Works particularly well with ranged characters that do burst single Target damage from the Shadows but you can play your dritz melee fantasy if you wish the support quite obviously these are the best choice to keep your HP above zero and avoid wasting your precious revivified squirrels the cleric Druid and Bard are all great options for this support oriented build Beyond healing each of these classes also come with their own perks the cleric is known as the icon of healing and it's rather accurate with Proficiency in metal medium armor they get access to more healer specific magic items for instance the hell writer's Pride are medium armor gauntlets that give a free blade Ward every time you heal a creature Druids are super tanky since they can summon HP out of leaves every time they wild shape this makes them great to pair with the front line which I'll cover shortly Bard comes with their own bardic inspiration ability which is a reliable buff to all D20 rules I'm also a huge advocate for using healing word over cure wounds because forcing your healer to sacrifice positioning for just for a few more hit points it's silly you'll usually want your supports to be directly healing or buffing the martial barbarians Fighters and monks all fit this category these are your big brutes that run to the front line and just start swinging without these to form a line of defense your squishy characters become quite vulnerable quite quickly they all work best by getting up close and personal with the enemies Fighters can rely on good armor class and second wind to sustain themselves the monk has amazing speed and access to Great abilities for example deflect missiles and patient defense will always help to reduce a lot of incoming harm the Barbarian has the best HP in the entire game and their rage less than half all weapon damage it's also good to have these characters that can utilize the horde of magic melee weapons you get in this game they're quite powerful when it comes to dishing out single Target damage either using action surge two-handed weapons while raging or Flurry of Blows if you can ever buff characters in combat these are good targets use totally legal consumables that aren't just a mask for performance enhancing drugs now you might be wondering why I didn't mention the Paladin they're just too versatile and good to narrow down lay on hands gives them some of the best healing in the entire game and their ability to Smite combined with great armor class makes them amazing Marshals they can substitute as both a Marshall and a Healer they're just built differently my biggest advice is that when assembling your party diversity is key now let's talk about moral compatibility the companions in this game all have kind of dubious morals which is to be expected in a d d game to be honest personally I prefer when everyone in the party kind of gets along to avoid having them disapprove of everything you do whenever starting a playthrough think about what kind of moral alignment you'd like to play as mainly whether you want to be good or bad the choices you make and the companions you recruit are going to be based on that decision if you want to get constantly reprimanded by your allies that's okay too but I would rather leave the morality lessons to my parents your companions will have an approval rating that shifts depending on the actions they see you do some might grin when you absolutely bully people others might say hey bro that's not cool this approval rating also greatly influences how much of the companions open up to you yes this includes them opening up in bed as well if you upset them enough they can actually just abandon the party and hurt your feelings so I'd rather keep that for real life as well keep in mind that even on a good playthrough you'll end up killing people and choosing sides during an evil one though you can partake in some torturing rude dialogue and literally make people eat I won't speculate too much about characters we haven't met yet like Jahira and Minsk but don't worry I'll avoid character spoilers and just mention their broad alignments and roll on the party here are my suggestions for recruiting characters based on alignment just remember you can change these classes if you'd like it'll just fit less with the story since they'll be classified as their original class and dialogue for a good aligned party you can recruit house and to have a beefed up support of Druid he might shrug off Mass Goblin murder but at least he's nice to you Galen will both come with a lot of baggage especially concerning certain relationships in their lives they can serve as good arcanists and they'll disapprove of most evil Carlock my beloved can soak up all the damage in the front line as a barbarian Marshal despite her hot temper she still wants to do good and is the best companion to me at least from what I hear Minsk is also a good aligned Ranger that could fit the roguish category even if he'll likely show up later in the game plus he's voiced by Matthew Mercer which makes him worth a party slot if he asked me Shadow Hearts Falls more in the neutral category but she acts quite cold and is opposed to going out of her way to help people still though she doesn't like when you get all evil she's great to have as a cleric supports but I recommend switching off the trickster domain if possible because I just personally don't think it's that good if you'd rather lean towards the dark side and get to experience the game in a completely different way then start with hysterion as your Rogue he's a narcissist Noble who smirks when you impose your power on people careful he tends to get hungry at night so have some juicy midnight snacks prepared even if his morals are Highly Questionable I have to agree with his fans he sure is handsome Lazelle Embraces the very toxic culture she's rude direct and stubborn she's pretty much lawful evil and her approval ratings reflected still though she makes for a brutal fighter with some very useful extra gift Yankee spells like jump or Misty step finally and likely the most evil of the companions minthara without saying too much she's literally a leader at the goblin Camp actively endorsing mass killings and taking advantage of the Goblins at her side if you're going to be evil anyways though having a ruthless drow Paladin by your side can only help thanks for watching I hope you learned something useful and will be able to get a nice diverse party with all four roles as suggested or you know with four paladins thank you so much for the support of my last video it really meant a lot to me if you enjoyed this kind of content please subscribe to stay tuned for more guides on Baldur's Gate 3 as the game releases in less
