Baer Plays Pitch Black Dungeon (Ep. 1) - The Old Road

hello everyone welcome back to darkest dungeon it's a little different though this time around it's the pitch-black dungeon this is build five point four to five you can see it up there at the moment this is made by Sylvio this is a very popular community mod that a lot of people that have recommended that I try out for this game and having concluded my new game+ campaign having done just about everything else that I would want to do in the game up to this point I figured why not go ahead and delve in the community side of things so this is going to be a pretty different experience at the core game I've seen a little bit of gameplay of this the core game isn't really changed it's it's the same darkest dungeon you come to know and love but there are a lot of adjustments made to the enemies to the items to the estate itself that change the gameplay or not the gameplay I guess would change the way that you play through the game quite a bit so I'm curious to see what that will entail and I'm also kind of sad right now because I have to delete one of these one of them's got to go it's not gonna be this one cuz I think I might actually build back into the new game+ file and see if we can't finish off a couple more things I think it's gonna be the YouTube estate it was long lived but sayonara it's time for the picked pitch-black dungeon to begin and I guess we might as well go new game+ with pitch black right no no I don't think so actually just because I don't know I've been warned a lot you know I've been warned a lot about how difficult this is so maybe I shouldn't underestimate it we'll go we'll go standard to start off with and we'll see how I fare I'm not gonna watch the cutscene again I've seen it 40 times it's really good but I'm not gonna watch it again I do want to mention as well by the way this is the first time you've seen any of my darkest dungeon content hi welcome I'm bear I love this game you're gonna be spoiled about everything because I played through the game about three times now I know everything that there is to know at least in the base game so just before warning there for anybody who might be new ok so we just start off in the old road again not surprising I suppose is going to go through the tutorial ization aspect let's just go for it brigand have run up these lanes keep to the side path the hamlet is just ahead I gotta give way in the spotlight a little bit here too so all right nothing I've changed so far or fashion that all may hear of your arrival just just right then to man just a reminder of their formation is broken maintain the offensive a reminder of the brilliance of this games narration especially in the onset okay this is new non tutorial or snippet from the Journal of a doomed expedition why do we have seven journal pages that's odd unusual and fun there is much to be found in forgotten places the maesters had this new trinket okay I like this lower stress received and a lower chance of being surprised it's a really good trinket I assume they can't use it yep okay then and I was correct in that assumption unique must mean that it is specific to a class which used to be just outlined by you know a cultist only our jester only or something like that but suppose that's not the case anymore of these vermin a message the rightful owner has returned and they are kind is no longer welcome but just also looks slightly different doesn't it oh that's not a good start okay well we'll see what our new friends are capable of I suppose here in the on the old road many many dodges at least how we are faring here okay stunning blow to start off with I usually end up stunning this guy I think or at least attempting to doing everything in my power to make that happen okay minimal damage here this is a great start let's look at the clues a character on the old road yeah that'll be a good way to establish the expectation moving forward leading out bus it begins I guess I'll just go ahead and smite him might as well at this point should we kill this dude first I don't know if it's gonna be much quicker I I need a crit to even finish this guy off if I just want to bleed him let's just do this yeah [ __ ] it cuz I think his bleed might be a little bit more threatening than the blanket fire that's doing one damage at maximum man still gonna take a while though oh the old road fight man goodness good vision the end of proof the old road fight indeed okay I guess that's possible let's bleed him out please six per okay so he's gonna die no matter what and he still wants the crusader alright reign all you got it buddy that's another bleed stack though she's just Christ he's gonna die okay you're already dead I guess the protection wouldn't be bad the match is struck a blazing star is born I need him to bleed out too so we don't have that goddamn corpse there so let's to get this going well that was different actually I should have paid attention to that the seat full shot I changed the name of that one and that's all it's got a riposte now okay yeah I need to pay a little bit more attention alright so these are all at level 1 to which we can see in their in the tooltip now which is kind of nice I still need to let him bleed though which sucks ok so I guess I'm just gonna move you forward there we go ok no corpse now does not dissuade the sharpened blade okay hello help he his goodness foolish Horrors rotlo and driven into the mud small dagger sharp enough cut yourself with probably best to use it elsewhere this is almost certainly meant to interact with certain curios right oh I'll check this up no nothing okay it is trapped though let's not let rain I'll touch that one and get blighted to death goody all right welcoming start let's leave oh nice we get a bunch of heirlooms to start off with a little bit of money to okay to experience on the old road enough we got to be sickly well what did we notice that was different out of that possible array of thing welcome home such as it is this squalid hamlet these corrupted lands they are yours now and you are bound to them I like the color coding at least there's that okay get the on-screen-text tips yes sir there's a guild the guild is actually available already make no mistake we will face ever greater threats our soldiers must be ready we did notice as well that uh dismisses tracking shot no has now become a deceitful shot and is much better now yeah that is hugely improved that makes it usable I wonder if the duelists advance has changed now oh look at that yeah adds damage to the point-blank shot oh that is cool okay but if you do it Cal case you can't stack the point-blank shots though because they'll they'll begin to uh they'll begin to deteriorate over time but if you do this into that sort of negates that debuff I guess I'm going to do it one more time cool okay interesting Rana what's different with uh what's different with you buddy you gonna buff on your battle heal I like that a lot holy Lance reduces the damage from future holy Lance's wonder if that's just a three or four round buff or something like that let's not identify every single character's skill set right away let's go to the stagecoach real quick women and men soldiers and outlaws fools and corpses all will find their way to us now that the road is clear nothing surprising there and the play doctor in the vestal but there is something surprising here in the upgrade system this cost some money that is interesting I wonder if that's unique to the stagecoach let's not look at the guilt no see okay there's a gold cost associated with the upgrades in the estate now that is going to be difficult to manage goodness that all that adds a a very scary level of depth to the financial planning aspect thanks here Oh God um wait want to look at anything else right now I can check the graveyard out again sure covered in the poisoned earth awaiting merciful oblivion survival is first level does not actually cost any go home in wild places she is a stalwart survivor and a strict instructor hmm these reddit upvotes I just now seeing this is this always been there is that just like a little small change they made that be cute okay let's have a look at the embark a mecca of madness and morbidity your work begins the usual suspects go off in the ruins once more getting a stun stone out of that pulling out one trinket that unfortunately can't be used on anybody I'm pretty sure it's just oh wait she can wear that okay hold on so what's the criteria then let's have a look in the highwayman where he can I wonder if everybody can wear it and I just couldn't equip it while I was in combat or something yeah okay that's weird uh well then that being the case I guess I should probably put that on the vestal yeah it's probably best let's let her wear that reduces our chance of being surprised which is nice and then I think I might want to go into the guild here and try to unlock the stress heal on Reynald pretty sure I'm gonna need that yeah I want to spend a thousand goals let's go for that one you only have four active skills I'm well aware of that buddy let's take off the bulwark throw on the inspiring cry this hasn't really been changed that much I don't think maybe the level one is a little stronger I can't quite tell oh nice this reduces their crit chance that's a neat trade-off to make there okay so Raynolds all set to go here I don't know how much I'm really gonna be able to do as far as preparing them for this upcoming quest there's not much to be done actually with the one trinket we've got I suppose we're just about as ready as we're gonna be I really do like having the inspiring cry so I'm kind of glad we took the time to do that having deceitful shots can be really nice I'd like to unlock Point Blank but I don't think it's 100% necessary although if I did what I could do is equip both of these in place of grapeshot in open vein in open veins gonna be kind of useless in the ruins as well so I think I've convinced myself might as well have some fun with the initial setup although I did just get warned in the in the preamble here there's actually before you load up the game with the pitch-black dungeon mod enabled you get a little warning saying hey things gonna be tough be ready kind of sucks good luck let's do it usual suspects we get the good stuff going now I'm gonna keep this deceitful shot unlocked and then uh yeah I like this combination of [ __ ] this is good this is very very good he's only got point-blank unfortunately in the front row but I doubt he's gonna be there a lot I may do it intentionally a couple of times but probably not often hey darkest dungeon i doing saw you recently was a good time alright oh here we go measured now in gold later in blood this wait a minute this is a short mission this involves camping oh that sucks also these provisions are going to be quite pricey oh boy I'm going to bring two of these what is what is this stuff health potion most likely watered-down but it'll work if you need it too these are all just health potions why are they a different color I wonder ancestors luminous concoctions shake it before Ash Ambler appears this is this a specialized kind of torch flask of caustic solution the label reads do not swallow these could easily just be things we need for curio interaction but I'm gonna have to do some studying I guess to figure out how the hell to use them I'm also probably gonna have to try my damnedest to get an antiquarian early on and make some cash so why do I need to prioritize as far as items go we only have one of each of these holy [ __ ] man well clearly bring the one at least and then maybe like okay I don't think I want any of these actually I'm gonna be really picky about what I buy just in case I find a secret room I think I'm gonna get one key let's make sure I have at least a stack of torches probably all the food I can get oh nice you can stack food up to 16 now which means two campfires which means that's about right okay good balance I like that keys still only need one I think let's just go with one stack of torches maybe this will be enough oh I already get one anti-venom in one holy water from these two that's right okay so that's why I can only buy another additional one I guess or maybe I can only buy one and I happen to get the free one with them which might be a really nice benefit hmm I almost want to take some holy or some health potions because I feel like it's telling me I need them these this must be a stronger one even though they all are labeled the same this one's more expensive it has a red border let's see something I'm gonna make I'm gonna get one of each I'm gonna get one of each of all these [ __ ] let's try [ __ ] some [ __ ] why not see how it goes down give it a whirl give it a whoo-ha I'm a little worried a little worried about how much new stuff because lord knows I struggled enough to remember what things interacted with what curios before now that we've got all these different options I might need a couple of cheat sheets some [ __ ] notepads up while I'm playing here oh you can buy more than eight torches - I guess I should have assumed white gains purchase spirits are lifted and purpose is made clear now this first dungeon is more or less scripted unless they changed anything so we gone free I should I think I know what to expect but I'm not going to assume that I do why not do this as well why not buff up the point-blank and kill him anyway I could stress relief oh that's a group heal that's not that's not a that's not stress relief I didn't read it man I just assumed I just assumed I knew it was that does not provide stress healing that's terrible that is not good at all I got a lot worse what what is that skill now all these also are not usable skills for the [ __ ] all goodness we messed it up we messed it up we done goofed all right so she's like exclusively healing then unless I want to move her forward which I very much doubt I suppose I can have the highwayman in the back but he's only got pistol shot why the hell reanimated rabble executed with impunity no no no no no no no what if I leave the skeleton corpses behind they reanimate that's [ __ ] terrifying this is just a small like taste of that it is it still gonna come back okay good as Victory's mount so too will resistance some good stuff there as well all right well that is important information to be privy to off we go I probably could have assumed that I wasn't gonna run into a secret room on this but who knows Cold Stone seems bent on preventing passage all right so we still got two shovels there's an acolyte so the acolyte I can probably safely assume it's not gonna come back after I kill it so let's make that a top priority I think her incision has been doing well actually no a blinding gas is okay here that lets the highwayman finish her off next turn that prevents any further stress damage this guy always get is a quick bone bable two actions whoa variants on the babble or the rabble I should say all right so you need to die first back to the good but then we have to kill your corpse which I don't know if we can do okay so this changes my strategy a lot does all it turn it into a soldier dude now I need to deal to damage I don't know how I'm gonna do it [ __ ] I still try to stun her I could stun one of these guys all you know what she needs to clear corpses clearing corpses is going to be a hell of a lot more important now I guess damn oh you actually you know what I'd be okay with that I'd be totally okay with that then she can actually do something ah let's see stunning then is probably gonna be a little bit more important as well landed that one okay reduces crit chance to which is fine can you land a strike on her you've goddamn well can't Kenya this clears corpses as well also reduces their accuracy and damage hmm a little bit of a buff against the unholy I guess we might as well do this resisted the debuff okay please tell me that's gonna happen first thank you very much destroy them corpses make a big difference man this is so so starkly contrast to our previous experience I'm not sure why I'm so surprised things done changed man they don't change Nate nobody gonna know whether or not they're gonna come back good dodge keep it up keep it up yeah there's that reduced damage [ __ ] yeah and now I guess I could try to kill one but I'm better off I think maybe going for a kill here we clear the corpse holes wait who blossom oh we can't target him but we can still clear this and it's worth it I think weirdly enough that move is worth it and now we go for the kill with the mace bash confidence surges as the enemy crunk and hopefully destroy okay the corpse is gone it doesn't spawn him again if it's the last one triumphant pride precipitates a dizzy another important bit of information to know we're getting a lot of those right now let's go treasure why not get a little get a little greedy here up another torch Brooke a blazing star is born I'm gonna keep this party line up for now even though I don't really want the vessel to be that vulnerable and much rather have her available to actually deal damage when I need to I'm pretty sure the plague doctor can do just about everything she needs to from that spot as well stressful incantation totally sucks I just want to make sure she's all good yes she can't do incision unfortunately I might want to move the highwayman back because of that because he can do everything else from position four so yeah I think that benefits me pretty much just the same way one to anyway slice of homily good start marking him is definitely not the worst option hmm I like disorienting blast that totally sucked ha oh and then the knock back okay well that kind of means that I might want to try to go for the the dualist advance into the point blank then in this case I know she's bleeding give me a second here okay that's not that big of a deal I can just heal around nice good [ __ ] mal Vey and let's see here I think zealous maybe I should probably still try to kill you even though clearing your corpse is almost more important I can destroy you in again I'm okay with this but once we do that I'm not gonna be able to clear this corpse Oh actually I think I'll do list and then go to a point blank after that power then maybe we'll do something like I don't know another stun on her might not be a bad idea I think she's got a pretty high resistance at this point though oh hey she's back up to the front okay so a holy Lance could have been nice but we swapped it off for the inspiring pride cuz we're geniuses boy oh boy we've taken a bit of damage here but I think I'd rather do some myself I'm gonna mace bash went blank shots probably gonna kill you so let's let's contribute to taking out the acolyte here I kind of figured that would happen actually get her out of the picture there we go and now kablammo brush disadvantage give them no quarter all right good [ __ ] now assuming the play doctor doesn't go first which indeed she doesn't I was kind of hoping we'd be able to clear the corpses after we kill this guy but that might not happen so instead let's just keep controlling him clear that corpse out anyway and now hopefully we get to clear this girl too there we go okay so we figured out the strategy for dealing with the bone soldiers I think for the most part their formation is broken maintain the offensive but that is going to be another little added layer every single time man that is gonna be a [ __ ] pain in the patoot all right fine with me I'm going to move her to the back put him in spot three away now we're gonna flip those two around aren't we yeah same it hit me in the back is just fine it's not a big issue at all and I don't need a key for this one so let's just pop it open good eh probably it rid of that I sprung get rid of that that's why we brought the anti-venom okay off we go it's not too bad right now we're doing okay this is the opening dungeon though so I really shouldn't have to reassure myself event not not be necessary but off we go all the same safety another empty room one more we'll do it and then I will I will happily get the hell out of here and prepare myself mentally for the upcoming trials clearly going to be a much different experience than I anticipated even being told that the pitch-black dungeon was different I mean it is not really a huge overhaul you know like this is still I'm playing darkest dungeon right but there are major changes and we've only seen a little bit Lea we require only the strength to follow it we have scratched the surface of what's yet to come and that gives me cause for alarm but here speaking of causes for alarm what is that Neverending bones that is a scary buff let's get this activated and try to take him out because he clearly is cannot be allowed to live they are very fast and dodge everything I think a couple of heels might be in order to start to preemptively address our health concerns and then maybe a double stun actually yet not too shabby he resisted though with 10% interesting but I'll allow it okay stun game may not be all that bad here they are dodging a lot too so if I want to try to go for damage I might be a little a little Sol let's see let's just try to play control I guess I want to kill you first and then clear that corpse to make sure he's not just going to come back oh he's inspirational that's why he's got that move okay so he is more of a support role that is cool man I love those variants really interesting oh good shot nice that is extraordinarily good clearing the corpse with a crit is going to be marvelous for us moving forward here got a heal her might be the group heal milks which is okay actually I might I might be okay with that let's see de SOI ending blast again not a terrible option and I can hopefully prevent this guy from being an [ __ ] anymore I don't know if moving him to the back did anything oh god she is in a bad situation she can't afford to heal herself for one every turn I think she's got to move back especially if she's just group healing that doesn't make any sense to keep her up there if I kill him now it's not smart I think I've got to wait and I've got to maybe even try to stun this guy prevent any x-play damage there we go okay good control I need to kill you and clear your corpse and then we'll figure out the future from there you I guess why I want to move back although actually if I did this that's pretty excellent he's the only one moving at this point I could stun him and clear the corpse brilliant all right that did really good and now we can just work on uh well [ __ ] whatever we want let's just finish this guy off he's not dealing the most the majority of the damage though maybe I should go ahead and try to smite the soldier although that works really well too and then that makes it a lot easier for me to potentially finish them off completely next turn I kind of want to stun again it's not a great chance of doing so though Healing her for one doesn't seem like it's worth it let's just ah that's a waste [ __ ] okay what can we do here small chance this gets us a kill think it might have been worth it doesn't really give them a lot of value unfortunately let's do this and then hope that the smite is enough to clear this corpse out of the way damn it all the hell that sucks okay I wonder then if it's smart enough to make it so like reanimating it makes it weaker it does oh cool okay I like that pleasant surprise I definitely didn't expect that now let's see I well I got to kill you I still gotta kill it oh no I don't have to kill the corpse anymore okay now we can finally give her a decent heal and I can't stall this out for very long so I think I'll just go ahead and smite yeah whatever we can end up doing I can hope for one more heal but probably not gonna happen you got enough food anyway we'll be okay oh we're done her ice expedition at least promises success that's right I forgot we're nearly all the way through let's go ahead and do that wealth beyond measure warded to the brave and the foolhardy alike all right yes P can be a foolhardy I am NOT gonna do that getting the hell out of there and I guess we just resell those back which we didn't end up using it all I wanted to try that actually before I bounced I had the thing I might as well popped it oh well Oh deadly nice plus-one crit torn rotator kind of sucks but oh well not a bad start I'd say surplus a rare and wonderful thing Wow yeah no kidding cool all right we get surplus on our first week and let's say I go ahead and grab these two as well - those was a keen eye gold gleams like a daggers point oh man it's a good feelings a refreshing feeling we're right back at the start thanks for
