Avatar: Each Main Character's Weakness Explained

even the all-powerful avatar has a bad day now and then characters from avatar the last airbender and the legend of korra have all been designed to be imperfect yeah and it's precisely this aspect of the series that makes its character so relatable on so many levels while cora has been accused of being a mary sue on many occasions the fact that it took her so long to master airbending and that she is at times shown to be vulnerable or even breakable is what makes her so appealing in today's avatar video i'll go over each main character's greatest weakness from both shows and throw an extra azula entry in there to spice things up while aang has many strengths he tends to let his emotions get the best of him while still a young boy he was prematurely told that he was the avatar at age 12 which badly affected the friendships he had with the other young air nomads while monkeyatso tried his best to make his transition from boy to man as smooth as possible everything changed when ang discovered he would be sent to the eastern air temple to complete his airbending training and without monkeyatso his actions clouded by his strong emotions kinda led to the hundred-year war while trouble was already on the rise he left the world without an avatar for a century in a way the attachment he had towards gyatso transferred in the love he developed for katara during his journey to master the elements aang came upon guru patik who trained him to master the avatar state aang never ended up unlocking his seventh chakra since it meant letting go of his feelings for katara during his spiritual quest he suddenly had a vision of katara being in danger so he quit his training rushing to help her even though it could mean losing access to the avatar state forever when three members of the white lotus showed up at cora's doorsteps they were starting to be a bit skeptical about finally finding the avatar that would succeed ang what they found was a real force of nature a tiny badass korra who could bend earth fire and water one thing is for sure cora was a prodigy avatar but she had one small problem she couldn't airbend at all one of her major issues when the series started was her lack of patience and self-restraint most of the time she just jumps into action without a second thought while this could be a good thing in life-threatening situations it can also bring on a lot of collateral damage when she got tired of staying in the southern water tribe she just decided to head to republic city on her own to learn airbending while she caused some trouble in the city when she went full vigilante on a group of thugs destroying a few shops in the process things could have gone a lot worse if the red lotus members escaped earlier than book 3. cora could learn a thing or two from uncle iro and just chill with some tea when it comes to zuko one of his greatest weaknesses is his need to belong and be accepted by others i don't mean to get too freudian on you guys but all his troubles started when his mother left this left an invisible scar and created some sort of abandonment issue in the young prince while he might have been trying to impress his father by speaking up during a war council meeting this backfired and he had to perform an agnikai against the firelord who literally scarred him this time interestingly enough this only fueled his need to be accepted by his father who by noticing his son's many failures against team avatar sent out more fierce enemies like zhao or azula this constant need eventually turned to a form of indecisiveness when he let ang get injured and ira captured by azula and while he redeemed himself his need for approval still remains in the comic book series when he almost started another war with the earth kingdom to show his allegiance to the fire nation with his mother ursa back in his life and a new little sister zuko might just finally find the peace and the family he deserves mako can have quite a fiery temperament and can sometimes be cold but one of his greatest weaknesses is infidelity when his brother bolin was sort of dating korra or at least was aiming for that mako didn't stop korra when she kissed him i know i know this left poor bolin stupefied and hurt as he was about to give cora flowers granted cora and bolin were not really meant to be together as a couple they were way stronger together as just friends you waited too long to make your move and now you're in the friend zone but the fact that mako betrayed his brother and asami who he was dating at the time could have broken up the group altogether while he eventually awkwardly kept his distance from both korra and asami they still trusted him as an ally who got their back if bolin had kept a grudge against his brother he might not have been there to save the day when he first learned lava bending as they escaped the northern air temple mako might want to learn when to keep his hands to himself katara might be a little too bossy at times the fact that she was the sole waterbender in the whole southern water tribe might have slightly inflated her sense of entitlement that plus the fact that she had to deal with the immaturity of her older brother and aang's childishness so to some extent her attitude is completely understandable playing mom for two teenage boys including the world's last hope is no easy task but while aang would basically let her be in charge since he was completely in love with her and saka knew better than to get his little sister angry things were not always smooth when it came to dealing with toff since toff marched to the beat of her own drum and katara's decisions were mostly unchallenged by the two boys the two clashed a few times threatening their undercover mission within the fire nation when it comes to being confident azula is a master at it while this can be seen as a major strength in her case it's a little bit too much azula believes that she can do anything with no consequences raised and groomed to become the next firelord the lightning bender lies and uses others without remorse she even got past toff's amazing lie detector ability making it seem as if she believes her own lies her overconfidence also made her lash out at her only two friends tyler and mate which makes it really hard for her to actually connect with them this eventually led to both of them betraying her and joining team avatar in order to bring fire lord ozai down and herself the only thing that really mattered to azula was her success in the eyes of her father or at least that's what she thought until she went totally mad having lost everyone close to her and eventually lost in combat against katara and zuko her overconfidence brought her to underestimate her opponents and that is how she lost everything asami is one of the most intelligent characters in the legend of korra having no elemental bending abilities like the rest of team avatar she had to rely on something else to survive in the many adventures the group were part of not only is she a great businesswoman industrialist and engineer but she is also a great fighter asami combines her butt kicking skills with technologies created by her company future industries while she is highly intelligent she seems to have a blind spot when it comes to her relationships with men first she totally fell for a mocko who like i explained a bit earlier struggled with loyalty and then unconditionally trusted her father hiroshi sato never doubting that he was a major part of the equalists it comes as a surprise that she had no idea a whole secret factory was built right under her own home and while her father eventually tried to kill her she gave him a second chance as she let him help in the fight against kuvira in the end it ended up being the right decision but things could have easily gone sideways while katara's big brother saka brought well-needed humor to the show his immaturity was not always welcome he grew into a more complex character and embraced various forms of masculinity bravery and honor hey saga during the first season he was kind of sexist his macho ways not only could have put him at odds with a lot of the strong female characters but also made him overestimate his own strength at times thankfully suki was there to put him in his place and even show him the joys of makeup and things he categorized as unmanly before saka's goofiness and immaturity also made him give a terrible speech when he had to rally his people against the fire nation he stumbled to the floor dropped his plans and looked totally unprepared which gave his father no choice but to step in and take over as the soldiers were slowly falling asleep on him bolin must be one of the nicest characters in the whole avatar universe but this comes at a price compared to azula who thinks highly of herself bolin has some issues with self-doubt this leads the earthbender to grow slower than he should have while he did unlock the power of lava bending that was laying dormant within himself he gave up more than once on trying to learn metal bending bolin heavily relies on others to make tough calls throughout the legend of korra having always been protected by his big brother mako as a child his self-doubt makes him trust people too easily which obviously translates into a bit of naivety far from being the best judge of character he got tricked into quite a dysfunctional romantic relationship with the spooky eska he could not get out of it because well he was probably scared she'd shred him to tiny pieces but also because of his failed attempt at dating korra all this giving up before even trying only served to lower his self-esteem which made him an easy target to manipulate as when he joined kuvira in her goal to take power throughout the earth kingdom granted independence can be a valuable trade in life but both series have shown us teamwork and cooperation between the four nations is everything this is something toff always had a hard time dealing with since she was constantly seen as weak and helpless due to her blindness and was sheltered by her parents she can't seem to accept being seen as vulnerable this not only affects how she interacts with people when needing help but also makes her stubborn when told what to do for toff there's only one person who's right and that is tough her strong will and hard head led her to become the chief of police for republic city where she had the last word while she eventually decided to distance herself from others as she traveled the world and ended up in the foggy swamp by yourself under our 10 strange moments avatar video user alex banana asks okay but why
