I think that this car is as close to perfect that a car can be.

It does everything so well that is almost unbelievable

my biggest complaint with this car and all new audi's and porsches is lack of physical buttons for climate controls. Fk screens so much. The land rover velor looks best imo.

One of my favorite cars. I was at the dealership near vegas and saw the RS6 that was marked up by 100K. Crazy. Even crazier when the article came out a few days later saying it was sold. WTH?!

I do wish they made a S6 version. I personally like the S versions of Audi's vehicles rather than the RS versions.

Such a cool car (though not as cool as the V10 one). But I will never understand why Audi brought this car, a six-figure wagon, to the US, but they don't offer the RSQ3. You'd think us 'Muricans would go crazy for the CUV.

Does anyone know if these actually selling in decent numbers?

God save the Manuals Wagons. No saving manuals really.

Man when they started going over the dampers and links and electronics this vehicle has I got a little sick thinking how expensive this thing is going to be to maintain in the future. I get reminded how poor I am at times, lol.

Oh man that infotainment screen and the surrounding area was just FILTHY.

I suspect that one would buy this car if they already have another performance car. I can't see this being a one-car solution as it is so beefy. If you can afford this you probably can also afford a lighter performance car. I don't think I'd be happy with this as my only car. Having never driven it my opinion is worthless though.

[Music] [Music] i can't wait to put this on my cyan xv jack well you're getting yolked here at mancuso collision custom they've been kind enough to provide us this audi rs6 they were also the dealer who gave us the avora gt in our prior lotus film ah they did and this rs6 has been modified and if you're looking to modify one of your vehicles or looking for a pure performance machine or you want to get in the gym with me with these wheels head over to mancuso but let's get ready for another skintilating video the audi rs6 avant now if you're someone like me who cherishes the wagon you should be extraordinarily excited that audi has brought this back to the united states and the reason why people love wagons is this theoretically a wagon offers you all of the practicality of an suv without any of the compromises of a higher ride height and what i mean by that is it should ride better because it doesn't have to deal with the body control associated with a large suv and on top of that you look like a man or woman of culture so with that said let's talk about the cargo capacity if you compare this to something like the sq8 rsq8 or q8 this offers in the rs6 avant body style the identical cargo capacity of an suv with the rear seats folded down it gets nearly 60 cubic feet with the rear seats up you get a little bit over 20. the rear seat area is large enough for adults it feels very executive like you have your peasant blockers you have a lot of headroom a lot of legroom and the seats themselves are very very comfortable that carries over to the front seats as well if you are a larger person you will find yourself very very comfortable in this cabin and if you're smaller these seats have an endless amount of adjustability speaking of the seats you have two seat options for the rs6 you get these quilted rs seats that are heated and cooled but if you want a massaging function they go to a more luxury seat you lose the quilted leather but you gain the massage function and you still have the heated and cooled option on the electronics front most of this is corporate audi and i do mean that in a good way everything works extraordinarily well the menu structures work great things are fast react however because it's corporate audi you have these two giant touch screens there are almost no physical controls in this cabin i will say the touch screens work great there's haptic feedback things are logically laid out the material choice in this car is a mixed bag it feels very premium the noise floor is low which means there's almost no road noise there's great use of carbon fiber the leather feels expensive the little suede that's in this cabin feels again expensive and high quality but because you've gone with the carbon fiber or exposed carbon fiber trim package in this car you have a giant piece of piano black and because of that it looks disgusting piano black shows fingerprints scratches dust body fluid far more than basically any other material choice other than like a white velour which i wouldn't be surprised they start using in cars soon again the infotainment setup works great there are some unique rs tidbits though so you have the rs performance monitor and the rs drive modes the performance monitor shows things like brake temp oil temperature coolant temp all of the performance goodies you could possibly need and the rs drive modes allow you to configure things to a greater degree than you normally would be able to in a s-line product the last thing to talk about in this cabinet is the audio system this has the bang olufsen optional audio system which is a five thousand dollar option and it has a 3d eq this is a more reference style audio system which means it prioritizes accuracy so it will penalize you if you're listening to a lower quality sound file you'll hear the fact that there are distortions in the sound file itself however if you find yourself listening to a master recording or something that is a lossless or a higher bitrate file it will sound very very good i think it does a really good job making it a pleasant audio system to listen to so with that said let's head into the shop and talk about the massive amount of engineering that went into this product hopefully you don't fall asleep audi rs6 avant now i'm going to do my best in this video to consolidate all the engineering that goes into this product into something tangible for our audience that's probably going to be incredibly difficult it is because this is the quintessential explanation of why cars have gotten so complicated and so expensive you're gonna have a better appreciation understanding of why when we're done with this but a lot of that exists because there is a noose around the engineer's necks and these these companies to make something that's incredibly safe has low emissions low better fuel economy and all of that and much of what's in this exists because of that and also the size of this product and most cars or suvs have gotten so big the only way to control all of that mass is through electronics and a ton of varied systems so this is on the mlb evo architecture which things like the a4 a5 a6 a7 sqa q8 basically all of audi's premium cars are on this platform so it is a multi-link front suspension with an aluminum knuckle aluminum control arms and an aluminum front subframe and what a multi-link front suspension allows you to do is control both the body control of the car better and the ride control kinematics in this vehicle are very very important and this takes the most amount of development time over like a double wishbone or a strut because you with all these links you have to tune each link you have to tune the ball joints and them choosing which ball joint to put where where to put rubber where which control arms where it is the most expensive and cost effort time consuming to engineer so you do that in the front then you do it in the rear but at this size of the vehicle this is how you get that luxury car ride and then you get the performance out of it so when we look at the other part of the suspension you have air springs on adaptive dampers yes this is all controlled by the ecp which is the body control module that controls all of these subsystems electronically the back is the same although the air springs are separated from the dampers these are all zf shocks or sac stampers as well now in terms of the shock or the damping changes this is also auto leveling in the united states we only get air ride in europe you get coil springs as an option if you want that so you're driving along let's break this down so there are individual motors in each corner of this car to control the air springs and depending on what you're doing depending what drive mode you're in it will either try to get the car to be as soft as possible or stiffen each corner up individually individually to manage the mass of this car going around a corner and that's the shock absorbers the are the air springs have a compressor that uses ride height sensors to auto level that car in between that corner even flatten it out now again that's all controlled by the ecp the next thing that we're talking about here jack is the all-wheel drive system so this is the quattro all-wheel drive system and because this is a rs product it's been re-tuned and it's also mated to a rear sport differential which are is an option in some of the other s-line products but what that means is the all-wheel drive setup can vary torque in the rear from either corner so if you are diving into a corner it will send more torque to one side to force the vehicle into the apex of the corner and with the all-wheel drive system also splitting power will send up to 70 of the power in the front when it detects slip or up to 85 percent of power in the rear that's also being paired to torque vectoring by break in all four corners of this vehicle including the torque vectoring in the rear mechanically yes so then you you have all that the next part is steering you have a variable ratio gear steering rack in the front when you're turning the wheel it basically it essentially works like this you turn the wheel a little bit when you get to a certain point the gear the gear ratio changes and then it gets quicker and then they can also vary that front steering ratio by changing how much those rear wheels turn in or turn out based on your speed so it's this multi-layer effect of how the car turns in just mechanically from the steering rack the steering rack in the back you have the torque vectoring by brake that also affects how much the car mechanical torque factory mechanical torque vectoring and then the all-wheel drive transfer of power all these things are stacked layer upon layer upon layer and when you're turning we're going to talk about this in the drive just how much of an effect this has on what the car feels like but on top of that when you're braking it's the ecp is also adjusting based on how much brake force you're doing it's also adjusting the air ride and the shocks to stiff them up to reduce dive so really what you're doing is you're not driving this car anymore all these sub systems are working to approximate what the car should be doing based on these subtle inputs so it's no longer on turning the wheel i'm just turning the wheel there's so many things going on but what that's translating into from a technical side is it's getting the mass of this vehicle that should not be anywhere as capable as from you know achieving a level mechanical grip that it can through all these electronic systems they need to be here for to accomplish what it can do so i think the what does that mean and the main thing that it translates to is whether you have 300 horsepower or a thousand horsepower you can have all these systems working with you where that accessibility level is that approachability and confidence level is any type of driver can get behind the wheel and because you don't need to be worrying about what the back end is doing versus the front end of the the car is doing or how much steering input or you don't give it all that power is managed it's put down and the car stays on the intended angle at least the approximation of the intended angle and it really it hurts my head when i'm driving this car because i'm thinking about it that way but if you don't understand all this stuff and you're driving you just think you're driving yeah exactly that's what that's what these systems are trying to do whether you agree with it or not that's how you're able to get all this horsepower in a 50 000 pound car you know it just it's amazing that it all works and when it goes bad i'm sure it's also going to cost as much as the car effects all of it so with that mark let's get underneath the hood and talk about this twin turbo v8 all right so mark what we have here is the corporate audi 4 liter twin turbo v8 with a hot v setup and it is two ginormous liquid to air intercoolers on both basically ducts here in the lower bumper what this translates to in this particular v8 configuration in stock form is roughly almost 600 horsepower like 595 horsepower and it's good for a as tested 0 to 60 run in the low threes however this is not stock courtesy of mancuso custom collision this was tuned by velocity ap to make a staggering 685 horsepower and 685 foot-pounds of torque that's unbelievable and i can't wait to get it on the road to just show you how unbelievable that is but it also adds a little bit of throat and how do they do that through a mil-tech exhaust they replaced the audi sport exhaust which is also valved and they carried over those valves to the miltec exhaust which honestly sounds close to stock but it's far more throaty and thankfully also doesn't have any drone so let's get back to the technical side of this engine as we mentioned earlier it's a twin turbo v8 it does have some fuel saving measures in it so it has cylinder deactivation and because of the 48 volt system itself it'll shut itself off when it's coming to a low roll at about 11 or 13 miles an hour and then depending on what you're doing it'll start back up right in time for you to pull away from the light what that translates to other than a higher repair bill later on is actually pretty reasonable fuel economy if you're driving this thing like a great a you're going to get about 10 but on the highway doing about 85 miles an hour i averaged 18 miles the gallon which is actually incredibly impressive in a car that makes almost 700 horsepower all of this is going through again the zf 8-speed automatic gearbox and the power split normally under like basically regular load is 40 60 so 40 of the power is always going to the front sixty percent of the total power is going to the rear and as i said it varies based upon one to detect slip and all that other nonsense but the zf 8 speed is also tuned rather differently than you find in other cars it is largely dependent on what drive mode you're in so if you're in comfort it feels like a slush box and that's on purpose it's imperceptible shift so if you're again doing 100 miles an hour down the highway and you want to be uninterrupted to make your business deals and business calls it's fine you are you feel like you're in the lap of luxury and then when you're in rs mode probably it locks it up higher up in the gear sets yeah we don't know how many gears it does lock up in but it feels like at least first through fourth it feels much like a dual clutch in fact these shifts are largely brutal and they do that on purpose to give it this dual personality the gear sets themselves are also rated to a higher torque yield than found in some of the other zf eight speed products and the other audi audi models but other than that markets it's exactly what you're expecting incredibly fast and very very throaty when we get this out on the road here you're gonna just see how insane this car is to drive all right mark let's get this thing on the road so mark we're in an audi rs6 and i'm not normally someone who loves audi products this is the first time i've been in a product that i truly am blown away by from the four ring circus oh i wonder why that is jack it's because of that mark it's because it's a unbelievably fast automobile and it has this great split personality between absolute rocket ship that's more capable than any 4 600 pound vehicle has any right to be and also be at this the same time be absolute luxury cruiser and the way the the rear steer works in this car to get this thing around the corners is incredible [Music] oh yeah my favorite part about this car is watching that number climb that's like that's unbelievable i mean it it really is it's unbelievable it's like uh you you mentioned this to me it reminded you of something like a mclaren vest yeah but you're talking about something that is so enormously big and we just got out of the durango hellcat and that has some of that similar feeling down low this doesn't have that that throw you back like muscle car feel it's so refined yeah mark i haven't felt smooth like this since kenny loggins and michael mcdonald teamed up for some yacht rug this is real smooth i think that's a good explanation of really what this car is about it's trying to give you the supercar feel in a practical package that has a luxury car ride and to me you know i didn't grow up thinking this was something that i had to have i'm the typical dumb american i was just like why do people want wagons why is this so cool so you're gonna have to explain to me why because i still don't really get it because it's a zero compromise package mark you have the practicality of a cuv without any of the cons of having to lift up in the air and worry about body control you can just have your cake and eat it in this regards and i mean look you can't argue with the speed out of this car i just i'm not i'm not kidding this is probably one of the fastest normal cars probably one of the fastest cars we've been in period and to me i don't understand why you particularly need all of this in a car that you're going to be trading what if you're late you're late to work i guess the point is is you can have it and that's what makes this even more amazing to me just spending some time in it you have an exhaust at least with the aftermarket exhaust that can be controlled it can be a little bit more warm and noisy when you want it it can be quiet when you want it and the biggest thing for me is it can go to full luxury ride quality and then go into something that has like autobahn speed body control when you ramp up if you're doing like say a number that starts with a one and four on the highway not saying you should it'll feel like you're doing 60 miles an hour it does it's unbelievable like when i was looking down at the speed when you're going i mean i know that's one of the faster speeds we've taken this and other than seeing the speed and connecting my brain that it's dangerous uh you don't feel it in this car any i mean you don't feel it at all in i don't know is that some of is that taking away from some of the excitement of it though it's it's almost like too smooth to me i think it's the the fact that one of the reasons i appreciate this car so much is it breaks your brain like you're on a if you're on a back road like we were the rear steer makes this card hide its mass in a way that i have not felt in something this large before the air ride when you put in the stiffer suspension setup has pretty good body control mind you this is not a track car don't pretend to make this a track yeah but on the back row this is more than capable uh to put a smile on your face and when you are trying to get to your destination as quickly as humanly possible on the highway it's no issue and you're in total comfort so i think my my thing is is so this is the ultimate luxury wagon i think what it's losing for me is it's losing some edge to it and i know you have to complain about something and i would just say when you told me we were getting this i thought to myself this was going to be a tire burner that you are going to be able to pitch it sideways that you were going to be able to like feel smoke or see a smoke spring screen pouring off this and that is not this car it is just a missile a refined luxury missile basically that looks like a hearse i talked to someone they said it looked like rolling death it's like your hearse is coming it looks like it needs a funeral procession sticker on it i know it's partly because it's all murdered out but i don't know i i guess i like it and i love it and the fact that we're getting it i should have zero complaints about it but i still think that it's missing some like rough edge or some like drama that it doesn't have this lacks some of the character that i'm sure the e63 has like amgs are far more raucous but if you compare this to the m5 yeah this is a much much better car to drive than the m5 because it knows what it is it's not trying to be five sideways true but you don't feel anything when you pitch it well no you don't but you could see some smoke pouring off the tires well mark with that said let's get into the final thoughts and uh praise audi [Music] final thoughts on the rs6 unfortunately in our region we don't get access to these very often and mancuso which was very nice to give us this beast along with the lotus evora gt now we've been able to really explore this also with audi's help now everything about this is for a very specific person i talked about this in the drive i don't get the whole wagon worship i really don't after driving it it makes a lot more sense to have a completely usable package that is a luxury car and something that is frankly just stupid fast for no reason other than just being fast that's why you buy it it also flies under the radar and i think that's why people really love this thing the ability to blow the doors off of pretty much anything on the road and going completely stealth almost funeral home style is pretty amazing now all the things that you could ding audi against on their normal cars are here in terms of interior space although it is still remarkably comfortable the tech works really well if you can get over all the touch and the glossy and fingerprinty stuff on that side the exterior is unlike anything else the styling is like unlike anything else and their performance also follows all of that this has been a complete joy to drive and also even more confusing than i went into it it lacks some of the pure excitement of high performance sports cars because of all the layers of software and technology that continue to be added into modern super car ish type experiences like this if you are just looking for the ultimate speedster cruiser almost nothing blends luxury with high performance like this and i'm gonna leave it right there thanks for watching see you next time [Music] you
