Arnold Schwarzenegger on Working Out High, Caitlyn Jenner’s Run for Governor & Becoming a Grandpa

our first guest tonight is our former governor and terminator who's done it all and then some his new project is his first ever animated children's show stan lee's superhero kindergarten it is available on cartoon channel now please welcome arnold schwarzenegger hello governor how are you thank you timmy i'm doing great governor i tell you one thing that i was asked several times that they didn't watch the oscars yeah they told people i said i watched maybe one third of it so i didn't even know i cannot even tell you if i won did i win yesterday you did win you won best supporting uh actress weirdly you won for very nice very nice but i tell you the reason the reason why i only watched one third was because it was so boring i'm telling you that without you hosting it i mean you really brought it so alive and uh so i got addicted to watching you host the oscars telling you so i i basically just turned it off and i just couldn't watch it anymore because there was so much talent there on the stage but it was so boring how can you make this with all this talent so boring i think the next time they should take you to muscle beach and have the oscars and muscle beach what do you think about that that's not a bad idea i think we all like to see everybody oiled up and in little bikini thong types of things exactly how are you feeling because i know you the last time since i saw you last you had a surgery on your heart yes it's a method this was my fourth surgery my fourth heart surgery and it went fantastic so i feel great i think all right clinic is fantastic and uh so i'm very happy about it you're a grandfather now so you need to stick around for a while this is your first your first grandchild your daughter catherine and star-lord have given you a grandchild how do you feel about that fantastic uh the only thing is it makes me feel odd yeah you think about now i have a grandchild but i mean it's a it's really great having a grandchild it's a beautiful beautiful baby baby lila and uh and i'm very proud of catherine and chris and you know they're doing really great together as parents you know i was thinking about you as a grandfather and i was thinking about how great it would be if like my grandparents had farm animals roaming around the house like you have with your mini donkey and the horse and all that stuff i mean what in your granddaughter is what eight months olders she is going to go crazy when she realizes you're living in a petting zoo because she has already been over here several times at the house and she sat on top of lulu and on top of whiskey and i think she's gonna be a great horseback rider oh wow how about that yeah that's a lot of fun now do you babysit do you change diapers do you do any of that stuff i did all of that when i had kids right right when my kids were growing up i did participated uh and it was a lot of fun to do that but i have never changed diapers on lyla because i think that katherine is uh the expert gatekeeper she just you know whenever you you touch the baby says oh my god oh my god don't don't hold it like this i said captain come on now i felt enough children in my hands i said i know exactly what i'm doing i'm an expert in that stuff and then she just she just freaks out i think it's natural all you have to tell her is you're fine right i mean look at that but it's fun i'm sure you're well aware and i'm sure people are have been asking you about in your personal life caitlyn jenner is running for governor of california they announced that there will be a recall election and caitlyn jenner wants to run and no doubt inspired by the fact that you ran for governor during a recall election and you won do you think caitlyn jenner has any chance of winning this election well you know anyone has a chance because i think that the people are dissatisfied with what's going on here in california and i hope that as many people as possible are jumping into the race and going for it because remember when i was in the recall election there were 150 candidates there and it was a huge circus that was kind of fun to run for governor at that time yeah it would be fun this time too for everybody the key thing about all of this is doesn't matter if it's caitlyn or if there's anyone else you have a clear vision of where you want to go what are the kind of changes he want to make and why are you qualified to become governor that's what you have to convince the people all the other stuff is all nonsense because the press will attack you no matter who you are they attacked me but then when i end i won you know so that was the man you did win and convincingly but i think one thing caitlyn knows for sure is the changes that she wants to make because she made some real big changes exactly hopefully she would have those kind of changes in mind goes for the whole state to make a lot of changes to straighten out all the best that we are in right now and i think that there will be like i said she would not be the only candidate there would be many other candidates i predict right now there will be another hundred candidates a hundred because wow yes wow that's a hundred candidates has caitlyn called i think to ask it for advice or your blessing or an endorsement let me i i don't talk about that because uh there is just about everyone that is thinking about running has called me yeah i'm very good friends with caitlin i have the utmost respect for her but i'm also very good friends with governor newsom and i'm good friends with all the other people that have contacted me and have asked me for advice about running or not running and all those kind of things i want to talk about your newsletter because you've started a newsletter which is and i've heard that you're really like working on this personally it's something that's very important to you why did you start a newsletter and what kind of stuff is in it well first of all let me just say that everything we do we always get a lot of help you know because that's why i always say there's no such thing as a self-made man and i get help but i mean i'm very much involved in this and this is really kind of the unfiltered arnold i'm out there and giving people advice talking about my life talking about the my animals here uh and uh talking about training talking about being successful uh there's a lot of questions that people have about how did they stay focused for instance during my career when there was all the other stuff going on around me and i explained to them it's very important they have a very clear vision of uh what you want to accomplish see that vision always in front of you and go 100 all out no matter what anyone says because there are a lot of the naysayers around always whenever you have a big board and you tell people about it they say you can't do it it's impossible to notice so i i basically provide uh encouragement to people and uh kind of positive reinforcement that anything is possible don't let yourself be held back by anybody just work your ass off that is the most important thing you know your son patrick was here about a month ago and we're talking about pot and smoking pot and he said that you really talked him out of doing it it was not something that he does because of you and yet in your newsletter you posted this photograph as is you and tommy chong during the early chichen chang days now that would indicate to me that something was up man i i'm telling you you're busting me big time here i don't know how you can know did you think of a photograph from the early 70s but anyway yeah tommy and i became very good friends uh we both had big big dreams when we met on venice speech working out there on the outside weightlifting platform and we talked about how we want to become you know stars and he wanted to be in comedy and was dreaming about that i was streaming a bit about being the biggest and the best bodybuilder and then getting into movies and being a leading man and all of this stuff so we had a really great time and he was of course stoned a lot of times and uh we went over to a friend's house many times uh the smoke pot in those days and uh and i and he actually told me to do not smoke a horde joint but just have a few hits and try to work out that way so i started working out with a little bit of a few hits before we went to the gym it worked out this way and it was really fantastic but in 19 i remember 1975 after i competed in the mr olympia contest the sixth time and i wanted the sixth time after that i wanted to get really serious in business i wanted to finish my business degree in college yeah and i wanted to get into acting in the show business and all that and uh i then stopped smoking from one day to the next didn't smoke a joint ever since and tommy kind of did the opposite really and it worked out for him but yeah but i remember when i remember when my son talked to me about that he started smoking weed and i said then don't do it it's as simple as that arnold schwarzenegger's new show is called stan lee's superhero kindergarten it's on cartoon channel arnold schwarzenegger a superhero turned teacher in stanley superhero kindergarten which is on cartoon channel did you work with stan lee on this on this cartoon yes yes as a matter of fact the interesting thing about it is that stan and i was talking about we were talking about creating some kind of a superhero character for me and doing an animated show and then he said to me he says what is your biggest wish uh and then i said to him i said to do a sequel to kindergarten cop and then he said the secret to kindergarten cop he says wow then he looked up in the air and he waited for a second he says i have an idea and i said what is that he says we should call it superhero kindergarten and he says you will be a retired hero some superhero and you will be teaching kindergarten kids that all have super powers how to become good heroes in the future the future batman centers the supermans and and the super women and those kind of characters yeah and so anyway so he had this idea and i said wow this is fantastic this is between animated we do it for little kids he says this is the idea and then he started writing it up and uh i i saw i saw that the concept that just fell in love with it i said let's do it it's sadly stanley passed away since then so you could never see the finished product but the fact of the matter is he is an absolute genius he has created this within seconds right there sitting there in my office on my couch and we were talking about this idea what a pairing that is and this is not the first time you've done voiceover work for animation in fact going way back i think we have a clip here from um many years back i thought i saw booty dad that's right i did i did saw a booty dad it's his tweety bird when he was hitting the gym and i i think uh well everyone remembers this eat my shorts i've never heard that as a threat before yeah you were the original bart simpson and some of the great disney movies too i've got gadgets and gizmos of plenty i've got who sits and what's its galore [Music] you want thingamabobs i got 20. that's funny thingamabob it's crazy we have a little bit more of that i think look at this stuff isn't it neat I went on to promote Superhero Kindergarten but I had a great time doing the voices for some of the iconic cartoons. When Jimmy’s team told me the idea, I couldn’t stop laughing. There are definitely some famous cartoons that didn’t make the show, we might need to demand the other takes!
