Arnold Schwarzenegger on Danny DeVito Marijuana Prank, Animals in His House & Having Grandchildren

our first guest right has been one of the most famous human beings on earth for most of his life really he was governor of the state of california and he told us he'd be back he kept his word please say hello to arnold schwarzenegger [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i like it you still know the poses huh well i thought it was in the bodybuilding competition and you said standing ovations always when i was posing so this is what this was what did that feel like to be out there with almost no clothes on flexing your muscles and people going crazy oh it felt fantastic yeah it's like it's like you know it's something that you always dreamt of as a little kid not me up downstage or you'd end up being at this stage here and getting the standing ovation but i have to talk i can't just walk out and people go oh my god he's beautiful stand up and clap it's fantastic yeah you just moved but anyway it's great to be back here great to have you here because the last time we did the interview it was online it was like a zoom reading kind of a thing right yeah which was fun but i mean to come into the studio to see the audience and it's great to have you here and i want to start if you don't mind with a um with a political question that when you were governor of the state of california and you would get documents did you ever tear them up and shove them in the toilet i had a kind of like a government i mean a policy of to let the sun shine in i think so everyone should see everything that we did and um not just the plumber [Laughter] i never flushed any any documents or just shredded any documents as fast speaking of the sun shining in i'm interested in every aspect of your life like what do you do right when you wake up in the morning what's your like what happens well the first thing i do is i always get up very early like quarter to six or six o'clock i get up because otherwise the animals are complaining all right you have the first thing i have to do the first hour always is occupied with feeding the animals i mean when lulu starts screaming my little miniature donkey lulu's a mini donkey screaming at six in the morning if she doesn't get attention if you don't let out of the stall and let they run around in the grass eat the grass then they put the back into the stall the same with whiskey uh they have the miniature horse the pony and then they have dutch the big dog you know that he wants to have his food and he's crawling and he doesn't get the food and have a little puppy and she said biting my toes when i don't feed her so this is all this stuff is going on at the same time but if i don't feed them they will wake up all the neighbors then i can tell you i mean they scream that loud so you do like farmers chores in the morning and it is so much fun i think it's kind of therapeutic it's it's so wonderful when you get up in the morning the only thing you think about is the animals feeding the animals making them happy and to get the dynamics going lulu and whiskey of course they're invited into the house always uh-huh i feed them cookies oatmeal cookies in the kitchen and then the dogs get jealous i have to feed them oatmeal cookies they're especially made for the for the horses really but they taste good so i eat them because it's all trees that the pluses eat them everywhere what a menagerie yeah wow that is crazy do you ever have house guests who aren't aware of what's going to happen well you know we have housekeepers coming over and my dog jumps at them and uh then all of a sudden lulu runs through the house and she my cousin was here uh not too long ago just before christmas and she was like in the shock because she never thought or knew that the animus comes through the house yeah yeah so she saw the miniature donkey run into the house you know and scream loud demanding cookies you know all right lulu come on down and she says oh my god arnold you have us maxed in here meaning is not the stable what are you doing here [Laughter] [Applause] um is the sequel to twins is that still on track uh triplets you guys stacy morgan and danny devito morgan we're gonna start the shooting that in the fall oh you do all right absolutely do you know tracy well tracy is a fantastic guy i met him a few times and then we got together with this i mean he is a fantastic entertainer great actor great energy and he is also the age where we can mainly make him a little older to sell the idea that he's the same age as daniel and me yeah the idea is that we all the triplets well listen that's not the biggest leap people have to take i mean oh story-wise it really is fantastic i tell you i tell you one thing you've been tinkering around with that story now for 10 years oh really 10 years and then when ivan reitman took charge of it again who was the original director of right when he took charge of it and he became passionate again that there could be a sequel he really got into it and he straightened it out we have a straight tense script we love the script we cannot wait i can't think of a group of three people who would be more fun to hang out with than you tracy morgan and danny devito i mean this is a and forget what goes on screen this is an unbelievable group offspring you and danny are like really friends right we are very very good friends and you know we have had so much fun doing uh twins together and then doing junior together so here's a really you look for things to work with for with him yeah absolutely absolutely and uh and he's a great guy do you guys pull pranks on each other is that something because i know like danny is a bit of a prankster well so am i yeah so so so we all do these little things that you always do in a movie uh there was one time when i was shooting junior i remember and it was lunch break and danny said to me says come to my trailer i cook some good italian food i said okay so i went to the trailer we ate the italian food it was delicious the pasta and all of the stuff that he had then he made some coffee some espresso um and then after which he says he says arnold you always give me cigars and i always feel guilty i have cigars this time i want to give you a cigar and then i said well that's finally i said danny this is really great he gives you this cigar a really long one beautiful cigar monte cristo the anniversary oh and so i put it in my mouth and light it up and he just comes in with the lighter and we light it up and i'm smoking it and it was fantastic we get to the set we continue on with the scene i forgot my lines i'm sitting standing in front of the camera it was a close-up on me danny is behind the camera and the director says action ivan reitman and i said what am i supposed to say well we continue on with the scene arnold's the film before lunch remember the scene when you and then you were talking about going out and and you're now pregnant and all of this kind of things and so i said i said no i don't remember i said what did we do before lunch and so i had to go to the script supervisor i had to check out the script i totally forgot everything find out then an hour and a half later when i finally started remembering things again that danny put some marijuana in the front of the cigars [Music] i was stoned out of my mind and i'm standing standing there in front of the camera put down everything and danny was always going to ireland like in the cinemas i feel so embarrassed i mean i'm an idiot i finally lost it and then danny was always kind of like you know so those are the kind of pranks we do but i did the same thing to him oh he did in my office yeah i pulled out the cigar i gave him one with marijuana in it and he has a nose for marijuana i swear he said he i gave him the sick i was that far away and he said uh there's some grass in it [Laughter] i'd like to pull the same fluke in here this is um so i saw this i think he posted this and i thought oh there's a movie arnold schwarzenegger is playing zeus but it's not a movie it's a super bowl commercial for bmw that's right bmw ix the ix do you want people to think that it was a movie and lead them in that direction i think that's how you tease something to let the people know there's something coming out like that uh-huh and but you don't give them the whole story and then the next thing you do a little teaser trailer then you do a bigger teaser trailer then you do a teaser for the teaser trailer then you do a poster for the treasure trailer and finally you come up to the commercial i tell you something jimmy i've never gotten so much publicity for any commercial this is like all over the [Music] [Applause] the god of world zeus is where the god of lightning is with us arnold schwarzenegger second time your daughter katherine her husband chris pratt have blessed you with yet another child on the way it's on our way and tell you one thing that it is the easiest thing to be a grandfather why do you say that oh i'm telling you because they come over to the house you know you play with the with lyla for around an hour or two i put on the horse i put them with the dog i play with the dog and after two hours they leave over and that's it that's fantastic i tell you so it's uh i i have a great time and they come over to the house just you know you you're friends with chris pratt he's a fantastic guy he is a great guy uh son-in-law i love my daughter catherine is so wonderful and i'm so proud of her so they're great you know when they come over the whole house lights up and uh the animals are there and they're there and we play with the uh yeah it's like the baby jesus and the man yeah and um do they tell you i don't know if they know even maybe it's going to be a surprise what the baby's gender is but if would they tell you or would they be worried that you would accidentally blow it um i really don't know you don't know but i do blow it a lot of people absolutely correct because i can't shut my mouth and blah blah blah and all that stuff so it could easily be that they know uh i don't know because i don't think so because i remember that my wife never wanted to know right yes same with us we didn't it was always a guessing kind of a game yeah and so i think uh because uh catherine is a lot like maria i think that she probably would go in the same direction and not want to know yeah this is a god she's just a guest okay and also she cannot trust me yes [Laughter] there are two factors at play exactly right yeah you um you put something on instagram that i thought was interesting uh you shared an office with shaquille o'neal what were the circumstances of that well i i had an office as you know i built that office in 1984 it was finished in 85 and then i wanted to not have a regular real estate office or a commercial office with bank and this and offices so i wanted to bring in entertainers in so you know and and and athletes and shaquille o'neal was one of the guys that came in so we had to kind of increase the doors [Laughter] and the toilets you talked about and all of this stuff had to be increased in size and all of this which we were very happy to do but you would be surprised to know as a johnny carson was in my building is that right for years and years now that's where he wrote off all of his stuff and he produced a lot of the shows out of there and he loved the building oliver stone was in my building he was on the third floor some effort when you come out the elevator you turn to the right it's my office and you turn to the left which is his office i said you get the left side of the office because that's where you're politically if you go to the left yeah the only problem with him they were all really great tendons may i remind you but all of a sudden when he moved in the whole building smelled from smoke he was smoking so much dope you know it was like always everyone was always running out to say who is getting loaded the day again and all this stuff so he was like but they were all there were a lot of funny kind of directors came in their producers and all this it was a wonderful place i love the idea of johnny carson having to walk through oliver stone's dope smoke oh yeah you ever smoked dope with johnny carson no never i don't even know if he ever smoked probably not no idea i don't know charlie was as funny as he was as you know on ear but it's as serious as he also was sometimes about everything else so we johnny that's one of the effects of dope you know maybe you just wild swings you know from staring at your feet to being the life of the party nobody was it was really wild that you that he would go into his office and he would show you the pictures that were hanging on the wall of all his guests that he had on the show and so on but and then all of a sudden the conversation turned to a serious conversation about what was going on politically what's going on the show business this and that and the stock market and all this kind of so i i did not know that side of johnny interesting yeah he was very great great guy very giving and also was a great host just like you and now you're having breakfast with animals and also there's a fact about you that i think is interesting i'm not sure if you're even aware of this this is something i read and we put together a visual presentation to illustrate it is that you have uh as an actor in your many films punched uh more animals than any other actor you've knocked more animals unconscious and we have some evidence it i mean it's just just wild but they're made a lot of fun you know punching out horses notice the key thing is to know that we don't ever touch an animal right or it is kind of a fake animal yeah
