family listen we're so excited you joined us and we're believing god to do a sudden shift in this house today we have dr freddie james clark senior pastor of the shalom city of peace church in saint louis missouri sharing the word with us of course our praise team is here as we prepare for an amazing time in worship but before all that kicks off here are some things happening here at the church morning god for entering into our worship this morning god we thank you god for accepting our praise we thank you god for accepting our thanksgiving unto you we thank you god for bringing us here this morning to encounter your presence god the very presence your holiness and your righteousness and your goodness and your grace and your mercy and your kindness toward us your love god that is all encompassing god your love that is so deep and so wide and so high we cannot even understand it god but we thank you for loving us so much that you sent your son to die for us that he died on the cross he shed his blood for our sins we thank you god for accepting us as the beloved of you god we thank you god and we bless your holy name today god god we pray for everyone in this building today god those who are online god i pray that you meet every need god that you lift a very bowed down head god because you are our glory and the lifter of our heads this morning god god we lift you up today and we praise you we say hallelujah to your name god emmanuel god with us thank you for being with us this morning god we pray for those who are down this morning who are downtrodden god and we pray that you lift them up this morning speak a word through your servant of god this morning use them god the speaker right now word god god will rhema word this morning to come forth god that we may run on and see what the end is going to be god we don't give up and we don't give out god but we keep on running and we keep on moving and what you called us to do god we thank you lord we pray for the sick we pray for the bereave this morning god we pray god that as pastor wesley said god that you are this church is a suddenly a right now an immediately god so we pray for healing in the house today god we pray for deliverance in the house today god we pray god for minds to be renewed in the house today god we pray for commitment today god so have your way in this service god and we ask it all in the name of jesus and for his sake amen [Music] [Music] as we continue to celebrate we thank god for what has taken place this month i mean we have been blessed to hear from our friends who have come to share with us on on the first sunday morning we were blessed to hear when they stop growing they start dying and then on last sunday uh we were blessed to hear from well this sunday we're headed towards saint louis we're going in that direction and a friend of mine has come to share with the family of faith thank god for this brother he has always been the type of person who would tell you the truth even when it was a little painful can i talk about this yeah it is almost as if we see the tension of god and god's justice trying to coexist with god's mercy and love that although god loves us god hates sin and he can't just wink at it and do nothing about it he said something with me years ago that helped me to continue on the path that god had placed me on in this area and i remember when arriving from camden arkansas to attend bishop college i i mean it was rough man this country boy uh coming this way and uh being here in in this city and you know there were days when when i struggled and i i thought about going back to arkansas i thought about going back and one day this preacher came to me and shared with me how he appreciated my ministry and that he believed god had great things in store because of my sincerity and hearing this from an upperclassman you know i was a freshman i heard this from an upperclassman and from that day on i decided no i can't leave and go back i have to stay on this path because it has already been prophetically uttered that god has something in the store and so i'm glad i stayed on the path because of what god ended up doing and uh that up upperclassman who shared that with me that day is a guest preacher uh for today dr freddie james clark church is the only place where we come where we can get away with faking it oh yeah we think that certain time i disqualifies us for being broken but all we are is broken people dressed up and smelling good but if you turn and look at your neighbor they may not wear it on their face but you may be sitting next to somebody who's been through pure hell all of us have been broken by the decisions of life and we bring our brokenness to the potter's house only to be sitting next to somebody that every time you wave your hand they gotta [Applause] you know every week she get up [Applause] listen if i were you i would keep my comments to myself because you don't know what that person has gone through i know where i've been and i know what i've done and it's a blessing for me to be here today and i ain't gonna let nobody stop me from praising god i ain't got no business preaching no gospel or you thought i did no no and uh ain't no business nobody business what i did i i ain't catholic so if i'm gonna be telling somebody i'm gonna be telling the lord but i want you to know i got some scars on my back and some decisions i wish i had made but listen i'm like that woman in the color purple but i still here [Applause] pastor of the shalom church st louis is going to share with us and i want you to pray with him and for him that god will use him to speak to us today so that we can leave this place better than the way we ride the reverend freddie clark will come let's pray with him and for him that god will use him come on somebody look at your neighbor and say everything is going to be all right and now the fact we're going to encourage you this morning and say everything will be all right and i think i'm going to make it anyhow all right [Music] come on you know it come on everybody clap [Music] put your [Music] let it [Applause] [Music] everything [Applause] [Music] and then i met jesus and he took all of me temptation he'll keep that faith he already planned a way for you to escape through your troubles [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] [Music] hey [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] let them [Music] [Applause] [Music] we're gonna teach everybody a new part all right it's real simple you just repeat after me okay [Music] everybody [Music] [Music] [Music] i [Music] okay [Music] i know that i can make it [Music] yourself and know that you're going to make it [Applause] when we're all on one accord that we know that we all are going to make we know that we're all going to go forth that today is not going to defeat us y'all know that's worship right we all on one accord giving god what he's doing god we're believing we're going to make it but how would y'all realize this that when we worship god on one accord when we all lift our hands what we don't when we don't have the attitudes of it don't take all that and when i'm tired when we have the attitudes of coming in and doing the same thing after being out of church for a year and coming in and doing the same things can i encourage all and say that maybe because you haven't seen the victory in some things is because you won't worship him [Music] you're letting your physical circumstances and things around you just pull up your mind and we're afraid to worship him why is that but put it like this let me tell you if we worship him on one accord not only right now in the building then this sunday morning but further on day by day all on the one accord about who god is what he's done in our lives don't you know that blessings will come if we bless him he'll bless it's that simple we bless him helpless when the saints go to worship with one accord the king of kings will come in so all we have to do is just lift our hands god we welcome you pour your spirit out on us send fresh oil into this business and fresh oil into our lives and watch god work out on your behalf so you better nudge your name and say get some sense of let's worship together [Music] so [Music] when the saints go to worship that's when the king of kings will come in [Music] that's when the spirit shall inhabit this place [Music] and they bless them [Music] [Music] who is [Music] our glory shall come [Music] oh [Music] is [Applause] [Music] is [Music] who is [Music] [Music] here [Applause] [Music] me [Music] come on somebody invited me [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] right now [Music] [Applause] [Music] me [Applause] so [Music] so [Music] we praise the lord for his grace and goodness his mercy and his love on today god is a good god hallelujah so you may want to sit down because i i'm when you take 20 years inviting me back i got a lot to say yeah so you may you may want to sit down and so it good to see good to see you it really it really is that i praise god for the antioch church and all that you have done with what's been presented before you i um always i'm amazed at how god in turbulence knows how to work it out they put this in a song but more than a song it's the truth that while we're trying to figure it out god has already worked it out and so we find our balance today because god has worked it out amen pastor chris thank you for the invitation sister cheryl good to see you god is faithful all of these ministers who who are present thank you i've seen people get i almost hate to use this word in the faith tradition but because i don't have another get promoted and in that seat of promotion they forget how to worship and so it did my heart good today to see all of these men not just in church but in worship and that's that's the thing that matters so um so you see why i didn't want you standing that long because it would uh would have gotten drawn out i am really really grateful to be here today now this young man that was leading the praise and worship what you think wrong with him [Applause] have you ever heard anything like [Applause] i mean that is true it's amazing what god puts into people [Music] [Applause] so thank you [Applause] it's amazing what god puts into people and then more amazing is that when they have a platform to share their gift and so here again it's a demonstration of how broad a community this is uh that you would provide a platform for this gift to mature and and we'd be blessed by it can we give pastor hand this morning can we [Music] [Applause] may live long to do god's work in this place so i want to read this passage of scripture found in the gospel of mark verses 22-26 mark 8 22-26 these verses are read from the rsv translation by me this morning and they came to bethsaidia and some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him yes sir and he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him he asked him do you see anything and he looked up and said i see men but they look like trees walking then again he laid his hands on his eyes and he looked intently and was restored and saw everything clearly and he sent him away to his home saying do not even enter the village amen this concludes our reading this is the word of god i believe it's true the grass withers and the flower fades but the word of our god shall stand forever i i uh i uh ask that you pray with me on today in this worship setting that i'm able to convey the thoughts of these verses and i lift as a a topic to guide our preaching that i can see clearly now i can i can see clearly now so this is uh the most remarkable miracle in the ministry of jesus uh it's the only one that he performs in two stages and mark is the only gospel that records it some people shy away from this narrative because jesus has to touch the man twice and so we find ourselves sometimes uh saying these words and i'm not sure if we believe it when we say it but we find ourselves saying that the lord never makes a mistake well for whatever the context is when we say that then it is true in mark 8 even with these two touches that the lord never makes a mistake that this is the city of peter and andrew and philip this is a fishing village on the northern shore of the sea of galilee and just east of the point of the jordan weather jordan empties it is really to be seen as the halfway point of the midway point in the ministry of jesus on their way to caesarea philippi and they have to pass through messaging and this incident happens and so the text invites us to really take a second look at jesus and that we we've seen his wonder working power we've seen his authority to forgive sin everybody now knows about his popularity but the text is strongly suggesting that all of those are just partial views that there is more to jesus than what we have already seen and so the story really is about the possibilities even today about us having a new revelation of jesus once we get a new revelation of jesus those of us who are worshippers and just love to praise and love to shout if we get another glimpse of him ain't no telling what we might do i i i had to catch myself right then because i almost went somewhere i almost went somewhere because i don't have to look back uh five years ago i don't know [Applause] yeah i don't i don't have to go i i j early this morning it's really this long and so i just better stop right there because i need to be able to at least finish some of this and they bring the blind man to jesus and they begged him to touch him so so uh jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of town so i i really hadn't done that much uh exegetical work investigative work on why he had to lead him out of town that would make sense for this moment right now maybe in another setting we could talk about the uh uh the atmosphere not being right or conducive for miracles maybe we can talk about the danger of of toxic people my god [Applause] trying to handle the lord's work and how and and how that that mix and so if the glory of god was going to be on display uh there had to be a shift from a certain address in order for that to happen and uh and so although i laid that aside what i did pick up was that the the that the best thing that we can do with our faith is demonstrated in the text and that is the best thing that we can do with our faith is to share it that these friends brought this blind man to jesus some people think they don't need a friend we live in this time it's just so much this this this texas just packed with and pregnant with so much possibility until it uh i have to be disciplined right about now to hold the rain uh uh that that every every every everybody needs at least one friend i'm not a i'm not a i'm not a champion of having a whole lot of friends because that would never be true but i think everybody needs at least one friend and this and this blind man although he is blind he's not alone he has some people to care about him enough to get him to jesus and and the best thing that we could ever do with our faith is to share it [Music] and they brought this man um yo you know you you know if we've not done that of late this might be the clarion call for us to share our faith uh and bring somebody to jesus after all if we can take them to the doctor and if and if we can take them to the store we ought to be able to bring them to the church and bring them bring them to jesus because the life-changing possibilities for the person with whom we share this with is enormous if we can just get them to jesus you know i'm i'm grateful for my mother and my grandmother uh who who introduced me to jesus me and my siblings raised us under that banner you know i uh i've heard some scholars talk about how uh women cannot raise black men and i respectfully disagree that that when i look at myself and my siblings i don't think my mother and grandmother did such a bad job and i want to encourage i want to encourage that single parent that that's uh trying to do your best and if you if you do what you can do with the help of god uh i got a feeling that everything's gonna be all right [Applause] hallel hallelujah hallelujah and they took they took they took him by the hand and and passed him off to jesus and uh and jesus took this blind man by the hand let him on on the outskirts of town so that this thing could happen and so jesus does something here he spits on the man's eyes puts his hands on him and asked him if he saw anything and he looked up and said i see men as trees walking around now his response tells us brothers and sisters that his blindness was not congenital that that he that he knew what a tree looked like and and then he puts his hands on his eyes again and made him look up and he was restored he saw everything clearly yeah that everything was in focus uh and so really that's the text so i know you think that that uh that the preacher has to say more than what uh [Applause] i know that you think that the preacher has to say more than what the text has said but that's that's what the text says and and that was it the text is really uh about uh uh having our lives put into focus uh or uh uh making sure that jesus is in focus because when jesus is in focus everything is in focus yeah when when when jesus is in focus our whole life is in focus so you want to talk about where you went to school and all of that all that's fine but if jesus is not in the equation yeah you you uh i hope you love me enough for me to say you're just smart on your way to hell [Applause] yeah you got to have jesus yes we've been out of church for a year and so i hadn't been able to do this because i was preaching the empty seats for a whole year and so i couldn't say to people you know turn and tell somebody this there i couldn't do none of that it was lonely yeah and so what what you all doing now saying go ahead no i ain't hear none of it it was in my head and so i was and so i'm glad to see you i'm glad to hear you yeah now turn to your neighbor and tell your neighbor you got to put jesus in focus your life that if you want your life to count if you want it in focus hallelujah you got to have jesus to be a part of it hallelujah all right then the holy spirit showed me some other things that was in this text after he showed me the main thing then there's some other things that came as a result of seeing the main thing and so here are some of the other things and i hope it will bless you like it blessed me and that is that you you know that in the gospel of mark that stories that are told twice yeah that's the two storm stories where he was asleep one time and they woke him up that's another powerful preacher but i could go i could go there and and when they had had enough and pastor chris when they discovered that they couldn't handle it on their own they woke him up yeah did i tell you it still works [Applause] when we when we get tired of trying to handle it ourselves yeah it still works you can you can still wake him up hallelujah there's a there's another story same story but he comes walking to them in their trouble hallelujah hallelujah i messed around got happy on that right there yeah that when i get pre preoccupied with my situation and and it looked like i can't find time to pray and it looked like god is at a distance with me i look up and i see him walking too hallelujah me in my trouble blesses her name yeah two two two storm stories uh two feeding stories yeah right there you you do your own investigative work yeah two feeding stories yeah yeah and uh and then there's this um uh uh story today where he touches him twice he touches him twice some people originally thought that that he did it because he made a mistake the first time but but he was really crafting a way for his disciples to see that this is a process and and many times you're not settled just by the first touch [Applause] that this this story goes in stages just as life and and the more we experience the more we see uh he touched him and asked him could you could you see anything and listen this man said i see men as trees walking and i and i wrestled with that really that metaphor because a tree is a symbol of stability with branches a tree is but he said i see men as trees walking that that the tree is is a symbol of strength and that's what he saw he saw the strength of humanity uh unrooted unstable yeah moving about aimlessly i see men as trees walking that's what he saw and so how many times have we represented that same picture where we walk around with the strength of god but no focus yeah i see men as trees walking and you and i know the trees don't walk so we thought yeah until we engage each other and we discover that we have all of this energy and all of this power and all of this know-how and at the same time don't know what to do with it and and if we if we really came back to god and got rooted and grounded and satisfied i feel something pushing me here yeah yeah you you you would see a different outcome than our having power plays in a manner that is not necessary i see men as trees walking and and i want you to know that jesus did not try to adjust what the man said he saw yes sir because jesus knew that he was telling the truth about what he saw because that's the same reason jesus came because men from the beginning since sin had been walking around like an unstable tree without being rooted and grounded in god that was this disconnect and jesus left it just like that yeah i need about five six more baptist minutes [Applause] you know i yeah i [Music] i was trying to do some reading some time ago and discovered that the print was too small and then i needed something not sure what i want needed or want it but somebody recommended that i go get my eyes checked yes sir and uh that's what i did went to an optometrist and uh then they gave me this eye exam yes sir take your time yeah the peripheral test that's where they count yet count the flashes flashing lights yeah yeah the pressure test yes where where they they shoot hair into and and get mad at you every time you jump or for the [Applause] yeah yeah again the chart test yeah where you have to read the chart and then the lens test where where the doctor said is this better what about this yeah does this work what about this how does this work is this way is this better this better come to find out the end result was i walked away with some glasses oh oh contemporarily speaking some eyewear yeah i walked away with somebody to help me to help me to see devil i got eyes yes sir but i had to go pick me up another pair [Applause] so that i could see clearly [Applause] i digress just for a moment but i need to just say this to my brothers and my sisters in this house that the longer we stay on this side you you're gonna need some help seeing some stuff [Applause] and jesus never did say to the man what you're seeing ain't right that that ain't what he said no no no he left the man alone because the man told him the truth you know i thought about i thought about uh some actions in prayer where we go to the creator of the universe and we tell him everything but the truth because we think uh dressing it up uh somehow puts us in the right position with god and i'm here to testify that when you want your prayer heard you got to tell him about your pain you got to tell him what you see you gotta tell him what you feel and if your heart is broken you gotta find a way to tell god i can't hardly handle this where i am right now and it just feels like you have abandoned me and so god if you will come into my situation and my circumstances and let me know that everything will be all right i'm feeling a little better here yeah i'm feeling a little better yeah and he touched him touched him a second time and then asked him what did he see and he said i can see clearly now test him the second time and he said i can i can see clearly you see you see you see without the second touch we really don't know how to handle our disappointments without the second touch we really don't know how to handle our enemies without the second touch we'll throw in the tile and i know i'm talking to somebody maybe maybe i'm talking to myself right about now because in ministry a lot of days i felt like walking away and and never coming back not because of the people but because i was called to live in a line and in a standard that i wasn't able to keep [Applause] that that the standard is so high until i can't hardly walk without support from others and so i almost threw in the towel saying that this is an impossible proposition and then he touched my eyes a second time and i was able to see that all i had to do was preach it and then accept jesus and then the holy ghost would help me live it [Applause] hallelujah this joy that i have [Applause] the world didn't give it to me and the world ain't gonna take it away hallelujah i'm almost finished but there have been days when i've been feeling my worst and i didn't get past it by taking no tylenol none of that stuff i positioned myself around the saints and and in worship when the lord started to move i didn't sit there like a bump on a log i got involved in the process and when i heard somebody say god is good i still wave my head [Applause] god is good when i heard somebody said the law to make a way somehow i put my hand down i stood up on my feet and started raising my hand yeah and then somebody said that the lord will bring you out oh that's when that shout came on me is it anybody here yeah i know that the lord is good that his mercy is everlasting and that is truth endure the whole generation is it anybody here had that second touch yeah and you don't mind you don't mind you don't mind you don't mind praising god can i ask you to look around and people who are in the old cubicle look them right in the eye and tell them you don't know like i know how good god has been to me thank you i'm through but i feel all right he woke us up this morning and he started us on our way he gave us our health and strength and so if you don't mind and you're not ashamed in this moment can i get you to open up your mouth throw back your head and tell god thank you tell him thank you for everything thank you for the good and the bad thank you god for my health and from my strength thank you god that i'm in my right mind shout yet shouty ass shouty ass shout yes shout yes shout out [Music] i know can't nobody do me like jesus can't nobody wake me up like jesus can't nobody pick me up like jesus can't nobody turn me around like jesus shouty ass [Applause] [Music] i'm done i'm done i'm on my way to my seat but god has a afforded us this opportunity while the blood and running warming are they to give him praise yeah i ain't talking about something that's conjured up i'm something that flows from the depths of our belly to giving praise i wonder if i can get a few of you yeah to join in with me and given him an unapologetic praise yeah honey and under an unapologetic praise that that you would want to give him a scandalous praise you would want to praise him to the point where people start looking at you and trying to laugh and then it catches on fire all through the house yeah yeah yeah come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on give it to him give it to him because he's worthy he who heard this he worthy he worthy he's worthy he worthy worthy hey [Music] hey [Music] [Music] come on everybody that knows what it's like to get a second touch you ought to praise him like you can see clearly now i just need two or three people who know what it's like to be touched again and knows every time you call him he'll come through that every time you're in need he'll step in i don't need everybody but just folks who say i can see clearly now and i almost threw in the towel but now i see i would have fainted lest i believe i see the goodness of god in the land of anybody been touched again [Music] thank you [Music] i just wonder if there's anybody in the house that knows what it's like to need a second touch the times where things seem to be going crazy you you thought you had a handle on it and you can't see the way you thought you needed to see you ever needed a second touch and god shows up just in time and is willing to touch you again even though you didn't have it all together he loves you enough to touch you again is there anybody that owes god prays for your second touch is there anybody that owns god or thank you does he touch you again only the folk that know what it's like to need to be touched again let's give god praise for [Music] [Music] so [Music] praise them over there [Music] raise them in the instruments let everything [Music] so so so now i have i'm privy to some stuff so y'all y'all see folk playing instruments but i see folk with stories of sickness and grief and healing and salvation and being carried through so if the instruments get praising let me see if anybody knows how to use your instrument appraiser you got you got because that was the day my uh my style of preaching was birth doc dr freddie clark introduced me to something different and his his impact on my ministry be overstated just from watching um and then for him to be just so kind generous even travel to celebrate with us let's thank god again for him [Applause] i never noticed that when he was looking at people he was out of focus but when he looked at jesus he could see clearly and seeing jesus clearly help them see yo that was crazy seeing jesus clearly hope she see everything else sheesh i gotta watch that again i gotta take more notes all just graduated from grand canyon university hold on but wait hold on at the age of 62. she decided to go back and finish and she finished and she walks in a couple weeks and so i just wanted to take a minute and brag on sister kennedy praise god for your persistence and perseverance we honor god for you what a blessing let's thank god for all those who serve today and worship music ministry armor bearers ushers greeters hospitality parking lot everybody media production thank you all for serving today if nothing else let's stand and receive our benediction oh military any military home get a chance to come home let's let's make sure we're praying consistently for our troops those in public servants our first responders medical health care professionals our teachers administrators students we are all standing in need of prayer i am um also gonna ask that you all would remember reverend cardo cooper in your prayers as you go before the lord as he is battling health issue and pray for his
