Hello everyone, how are you? In today's video I'm gonna show you how to animate like Viscous Realm and Guillaume Kurkdjian. In the first video I will teach you some techniques and in a second video I will show you other techniques, so stay tuned. First let's replicate this effect. I've already made this scenario with some cubes. You can see the sizes here if you want to replicate it. Let's add some loop cuts to the wall so we can bend it. Let's add a Simple Deform Modifier and an empty to control it. Rotate the empty. And now starts to look similar. In frame 1 make a keyframe. Move to another frame. Now put 0 and make a keyframe. Let's move the empty. Let's change it to -360 and make a keyframe. In the original I can tell the scale is also animated. First let's change the origin so the wall appears from the bottom and not from the middle. I chose frame 20. Make a Scale Keyframe. And now in frame 1 scale 0 and make a keyframe. I want to change the timing a bit. I want my Simple Deform keyframes to stay where they are, so I’m gonna lock those. Let's move the scale keyframes and now it looks better. You could also change the Easing Mode in all the keyframes. And here we have it. Now let's animate the other wall and the floor with a different effect. A simple scale animation. Change the origin. So, now it shrinks towards the bottom but in the final animation I can tell only the z axis is animated. I'm gonna go to the last keyframe of the other wall's animation. Make a Scale Keyframe. Go to frame 1. And now Scale, z, 0. Make a Scale Kyeframe. Let's do the same for the floor but this time it's the Y axis, the one we need to scale. Change the origin. Make a Scale Keyframe. Go to frame 1. Scale, Y, 0. Make a Scale Keyframe. And here we have it. And change the easing mode if you'd like to. You could make this effect using Shape Keys as well. Now for the second effect of the day: the rug. Let's start with a plane and subdivide it. Add a Path. Edit Mode. Subdivide it. And select the last point, the one these arrows are pointing to. Enable Proportional Editing. Rotate in the Y axis. If you can't see the radius of the proportional editing influence, make it smaller using the mouse wheel. And move the mouse in circular motions and make the circle bigger to get this shape. And make sure the end is at the bottom. Select this point control at the end. Extrude in the X axis twice. In object mode scale and move it towards our plane. Add a Curve Modifier. Looking similar already. Subdivide the plane a bit more. Scale the Path. And we could also add a Solidify Modifier. Let's keyframe the path's location. I want the location to stay the same for a couple of frames because I will keyframe the scale as well. Make a Scale Keyframe for the plane. Scale y 0. Keyframe again. Now the path's location. And here we have it. Change the Easing Mode. Now, what if I want this animation to match the smaller walls that I already had in the scene and I also want to match the location of the rug to the original animation. Let's do it. Delete the Scale keyframes. And in Edit Mode let's match the size of my floor. Gonna change the Solidify Modifier. And in Edit mode make the path smaller as well. And move it. Gonna make the plane a bit bigger in Edit Mode. And in Edit Mode I'm gonna move the Path again because the plane is not in the right place yet. Because we've changed the plane's scale and location we do have to make some changes to our animation. Scale the path a bit. And we do have to change the location of the path in the animation. Make a location Keyframe. And delete the old keyframes. Move it to the beginning and copy and pase that keyframe. Make another keyframe. And delete the old keyframes. Let's move these ones. And keyframe the plane's scale again. And in frame 1, scale Y 0. Make a Scale Keyframe. Change the Easing Mode. And to rotate the rug, rotate the Path in the Z axis to -90 degrees. Of course now we have to correct the Path's location again. And now it looks weird because of the plane's scale, because after rotating the path 90 degrees now we need to keyframe the plane's scale in the x axis not in the y axis as we did originally. So, delete the first keyframe. And Scale, X, 0. Make a Scale Keyframe. And there you have it, exactly like in the original video. Change the easing mode. You can download the Blend file for free and you can also support the Channel leaving a tip on my Ko-fi profile or through PayPal. I have another video on the same subject coming up next week where I'm gonna show you another techniques. Viscous Realm actually provides some insights about his method on Instagram, but he doesn't go further on how to actually apply the tools he mentions, so that's what I wanted to do. He uses an animation technique called Assembly Animation, there are a few YouTube Tutorials on that already. He uses the Animation Nodes Plugin too and he also has shared some of his secrets on his Channel but he didn't cover this specific techniques I showed you today. If you made it this far, as always, thanks for watching and see you in the next one. Bye.
