what's up guys Justin here with the CG essentials.com so in today's video we're going to check out a plant library that just got made available for free from the developers of Geo scatter let's go ahead and just jump into it okay so we've talked about geoscatter a bunch on the channel um it's probably one of the most feature packed add-ons that I've used in blender right it's like a professional scattering add-on that has support for a lot of different things asset libraries that kind of thing I do highly recommend geoscatter if you're looking for a feature pack scattering add-on but if you're looking to do something a little bit more simple you're going to want to check this out from the same Creator so BD 3D just made the plant Library available for download for free on the blender market so um basically all you have to do is I'll link to this in the notes down below but basically all you have to do is just come in here and just purchase this for zero dollars and then when you do that you can download this plant or library and start using it inside a blender basically what this is is this is a pack of over 107 70 vegetation assets that you can use inside a blender there's no catch or anything like that you can just download them and use them so we've got like grasses we've got some trees in here other things like that so you can download these and you can set them up inside a blender so if I jump over into blender basically all I did is I just took the blend file that comes with this and I just unzipped it and I moved it into my assets folder and now I can access all of these assets from directly inside of the asset browser so notice how I can click and drag these in like this so we've got bushes we've got plants I think we've got some grass yeah we've got grass down below we've got some materials so um just a really good collection of different assets that we can use inside a blender and if I jump over into my material preview mode you can kind of get an idea of what these are going to look like they're not like stripped down assets or anything like that and so if you look at this we've got like our plants and trees and they're pretty high quality assets obviously I'm not in rendered mode or anything like that I'm just doing a quick material preview but as far as I can tell these are like full-on actual assets so one thing you're going to note about this is unless you're doing something with like geometry nodes or something like that which you can do but if you really want to scatter this on a Surface you're going to need an add-on for that as well now you can obviously go with the full feature geoscatter that's going to contain a ton of different features so everything from different kinds of preset scatters biomes scatters other things like that this is like the full featured add-on right so you can definitely go with that that is going to give you a lot it's going to give you like proxies and just everything you could possibly need to scatter things in different ways inside a blender however if you don't want to go with the full on version BD 3D has also made the biome reader available for download and so what the biome reader is is basically a simple scattering tool tool to scatter different biomes and so biomes are basically collections of plants and so there's kind of a quick start guide that shows you this when you download this free plant library but the plant Library comes with 31 different biomes biomes are basically collections of the different Assets in here so you can see all of these in here and you can select a surface and you can scatter them on that surface and so you can click on this button right here and you can go on geoscatter's page and you can enter your information and this will give you access to a free scattering add-on that they allow you to download so basically you enter your email address and then they'll email it to you and the way that that works is you just install that so under your preferences you just install it as an add-on it's called biome reader and what it's going to do is it's going to allow you to pop up a little window on the right hand side of the screen so I'm going to tap the N key right here we're going to go down to biome reader let's go ahead and let's add a mesh in here like this and we'll keep it somewhat small basically the way this is going to work is you can select an emitter like this one and then it's going to allow you to open the biome manager and so that bio manager is going to allow you to access the biomes that are contained inside of the plant Library add-on and so the way that worked for me is when you download this plant Library it also comes with a scatter pack file I just made sure to include those both in my assets folder and what this add-on is doing is it's basically checking the asset Library paths for those different biomes so as long as you have those in that folder it should find this and include it automatically now note that I have different scatter packs in here from different add-ons so like this one from the trash kit which I really enjoyed but um so I I have different ones in here the one you're looking for that's free is this plant library and the way that that plant library is going to work is you can find a biome whatever it is and you can click on the plus button right here in order to add it so in this case let's say we wanted to add this rock plane I could just click on it and that's going to add this to whatever you have selected over here on the right hand side now one thing to note about this is this is placing a lot of geometries so depending on the power of your machine this may slow down a fair amount and so often what this is going to do is this is going to pop up a little window in here saying there's a heavy object detected that has a lot of polygons that's basically this tool saying hey we're adding a lot of stuff to this scene do we want to enable some objects as a bounding box rather than the full geometry that's basically something that's designed to keep your performance going on your computer because otherwise trying to display all of this geometry can be really frustrating so if you do that we're going to go ahead and do that and click on OK that's basically going to replace some of these plants with bounding boxes until you jump over into rendered view alright and so if you look at this and I just jumped this over into EV I haven't done a whole lot of Cycles work on it or anything like that but notice how this has all the these objects scattered on this surface and then if you jump over into rendered mode notice how the things that are bounding boxes in your viewport are going to render out as geometry as well that is a performance saving thing that this does in order to keep your computer from locking up while still allowing you to work in the viewport generally speaking until you're ready you're probably going to want to stay in a solid shaded mode or something like that instead just to keep this light enough to work with so there are tools in here that allow you to do things like randomizing the scale right so let's say for example that I wanted to randomize the size of these rocks you can set a value from 0.5 to 1 in here but this is basically going to go through and it's going to randomize these you can also adjust and provide randomization of like the direction that this is going other things like that now you can click on this pattern button in order to apply a little bit more of a pattern to this if you want to do this so again this is a really strong like basic scattering tool inside a blender and so note that you can also scatter other things as well just kind of individually so let's say for example we wanted to scatter these wildflowers on this surface we'll notice how instead of selecting the biomes what we can do is we can select this object and remember that we've placed the plane as our emitter object but if we click on the option for scatter objects like this this is going to go through and this is going to scatter this flower across the surface like this then you can scroll down and you can adjust things like the density you could do randomization as well as adjusting the scale other things like that down below so a really strong kind of starter toolkit for scattering objects in blender and so that free version is going to give you those basic tools then you've got the pro version which gives you just a lot more ways to scatter different objects inside a blender so there's a ton of them I can't get into all of them right now but basically these guys have you covered whether you want a free version that can do some basic scattering or some more complex stuff I will link to both of those those in the notes down below so that you can check them both out so in my opinion there's absolutely no reason why you wouldn't at least go download the plant Library since it's available for free personally I think having this tool set available for free is very cool but leave a comment below let me know what you think in the comments down below as always thank you so much for taking the time to watch this and I'll catch you in the next video thanks guys
