hey what's up everybody this is Gary to get some podcast and my guest this week is [Music] this [ __ ] Gary [Music] hey what's up everybody this is Gary on with the get some podcast I have my first guest since I came to Texas Ollie Sadiq and he let the cow at the back I am not in the best neighborhood where I'm recording this is this is Ollie's Heyday Rob according we don't get the location but it's clear not the Galleria everybody know the location they know it's my Heyday they know it's like oh it's got to be on the southwest side that's one of your ex-client is coming through I thought three of them just stand out in front of the old Popeyes not just a Chicken Shack it just say chicken on the side nope nope no eyes no nothing where do we meet I'm trying to wreck my brand I'm usually good at that Cincinnati you came and did my Tuesday night spot nope where we officially actually officially met yeah was in Cincinnati with Dev oh that's right that's right man I forgot about that now how'd you well my old Barber slash um stylist uh his name was Devin passed away in 2016 and so he was was he cutting your hair it was your stylist he's cutting my heads well cutting Bill's hair cutting yeah you know um this is my he was more of my um my lunch partner on on that road yeah because you was you was open up for Bill Bellamy yeah I was the hosting bill um Bellamy's tour and I would go to lunch with Dave all the time we would go shopping and go to lunch together yeah so speaking of that go on the road with Bill Bellamy you guys were doing clubs or theaters clubs I you know I'm in the business I can I do the math I go is it was that financially better for Bill to bring he I mean he was bringing like four guys on the road with him I was straight he didn't never have to worry about me I was already good yeah I'm just hey hey hey I'm getting there and just give me some little bread it was more because I came off the road with DL shooting that thing for Showtime okay that was the that was the the bonus in it you shot that in Houston too didn't you no that was with him we shot that in in L.A somewhere oh really yeah that was one of them comedy Dynamics yeah yeah yeah well they where they were shooting there was the lol whatever and they were shooting maybe seven different shows that week so it was the snooping girls and then it was me and Bill and them and then it was somebody else after that it was like all Saint theater same theater same night it was at least three shows of the night oh it was these three of them they shot three things tonight I couldn't do it I I I I did that with ComicView I said I'm never doing that again yeah and we you know when you dare all day somebody else is out there shooting and when you're a young comic the adrenaline is like that but when you at that stage I was like man I just want to go home because I've been I did the common view three seasons and I was straight I was done with that what what that was that your first TV appearance come with you yes what year was that 2000 2000 was that New Orleans no what no that was Atlanta the first in Atlanta the first year at the at Center State the first year they always remember because it's the first year that they paid a thousand dollars oh they take way before me yeah they taped it in 1999. so that in 99 it came out 2000. the before that it was 150 so I remember the when we got the Thousand other older comments was like oh man I was like but you do know that we gotta get a hotel and an outfit and down there all off of this thousand dollars right so it equals back out to a hundred and fifty dollars and they knew it that's yeah because the first year I filmed was uh 97.98 and that was it was 150 in episode and then I my first special was 500. our special 500. with who bet come with you so we we've they used to film the whole season in a week so you know the back then it was a contest it wasn't like when you went on it was just the Showcase basically oh no it was the there's still a contest it was no no it wasn't the contest out there it was the Green Room contest like like that was that I never get the degree with my first time I didn't know that it was layers to it like they said hey you have to be here by um noon and they were talking about like everybody had to be there if I know no the people who were not established had to be there by noon Bruce Bruce did not get that noon um Lavell Crawford didn't get that known Jamario Jamario did not get that noon man you took me back yeah so on there so it's so the show before I was the last Comic they take 400 Comics That season yeah I was the last comic on the last show the last person and I had been there since noon so it was like one something in the morning you gotta be kidding me and this is after the the Atlanta greats so it's it's Bruce Arnez um uh Lavelle earthquake and uh Jamario Jamario it's the show be four hours so after that show now it's just people just in there now like so y'all just need some audience I think some of the crew has set in the crowd but because it was insane I don't think people realize as a young like you said a young comic to get a a break on TV BT wasn't The Tonight Show where it's just you it wasn't like a Showtime spell I mean I've heard more people and I was I lived it I saw it you know when first year I hosted was a year they went to like three four hundred Comics because it used to just be like 25. and I was like I'm being back there to see him backstage like God these dudes have been here all day and I'm on my third episode hosting and I'm seeing the same dudes in the back parking lot hanging out and you guys don't have your own dressing rooms do you we were in a we were man we were in some room it was just a room and there was so many copies and that people were carving out their space they had their stuff because you didn't this is crazy so you go we get down there I'm in a hotel room for one day because I'm thinking we take one day so you gotta be out by noon I didn't get a hotel room for two days I'm thinking okay tape and then I never made it back to that hotel room like I had all my stuff with me I think I just went to the airport after that I think this is I hung out with some people then I just went to the airport was your set good yeah it was good yeah yeah I was straight but it was just the fact that the whole I didn't know I didn't know about nothing would come of you I know about TV internet I'm just happy to be there how'd you get on um I did an audition and sending a tape to this guy and that's name I think his name was Phil Moore tall guy used to do um Phil Bonner was it Phil Bonner Phil Bonner he used to do he used to do the um palooza yeah yeah Obama you send a tape to him yeah I don't know why they were I was I remember when I got it because I was just going through all the people who I knew this like look it's going to be in Atlanta and Phil Bonner was the one that um Sharon sent my tape to my homegirl Sharon and you were only doing stand up in Houston back there or was you traveling already no I was just only in Houston at the time yeah I don't think people know how this was with me because I got on kind of you very fast I got out of prison in 1997 October 21st so so that's December it goes to November December so that's on Danny goes to 98. so I'm performing at just joking comedy Cafe all of 98. 99 I get on Common View so I'm I'm only doing stand-up for eight like 18 not even 18 months how many minutes you think you have when you got on come with you how many words could you have done an hour special at that point at that point I could have probably did 35 minutes because I was I was working that 35 minutes would have been super solid then I could have gave some fluff in in between there just off energy yeah but that 35 minutes yeah Alice the lady who was over just joking she would have bet she would have BET our life on that 35 minutes she was like no he's good at it because I came from the Apollo night hosting an Apollo night where everybody get booed they boo the host they Buddha they everybody's booed it ain't no you you they'll do the drinks they booting everybody so once I got that room under control and I still every night I had to come with it because they they're still Buddha host so then she was like yo um I never get to do my boy GT came to me and said hey the owner said if you do good she'll put you on the weekends because I'm only on Thursday night were you getting paid 35 dollars damn that's crazy 35 every night I mean every Thursday but you got free food right free drinks no it is no no you get free nothing this is this this is just joking cap comedy Cafe if you ask any comic in the country about this one that's black man like man Alice so you ever seen um top five the the movie top five who's in that Cedric Chris Rock oh yeah yeah yeah yeah of course what's up so top five should you may be in top five I think no I got a great story about top five though so top five it's a story on there with Chris talks about that he left because he thought this pimp was gonna kill him so that happened at just joking comedy Cafe like I know the actual real story and it was close what they did in the movie but I know the actual story I know the people know all that haven't had just come here and yeah they probably killed her like Mom this is the place that you just I think I was booked there you just go and um Rodney Winfield used to be the host um Rodney Winfield yeah that's that was my guy um who's Mike Epps used to be the host Bruce used to be the host Arnez they had a condo at first that Arnez was standing when he was hosting it like man it just um we should do something about just joking comedy Cafe because so many people almost everybody I met came out of um just so I met him through just joking like Lester bibs Jamario Jamario Tony Schofield um this is when um this is when d-ray biggest bit was him being Scottish and oh yeah yeah yeah and Dion Cole Dana quarters I I don't think I think everybody I met I made it just joking so you strike me as a even though you're from Houston as a Chicago comic if I didn't know you guess where you're from Chicago because I always say Chicago's got to me the most talented comics and they're so different than everybody else because if you look at Lil Rel Dion Cole d-ray Damon Williams Leon Rogers uh Corey Holcomb they all got their own quarters um who else from Scott uh Cheryl Underwood not not sure on wood um it's my um Vanessa Fraction oh Vanessa Fraction from there as well but the big dog um Bernie Mac Bernie nah what's my girl um Adele Givens they'll give us there's so many and they're not similar they're all so different and then even you you got your own Vibe on things I've never seen nobody like even close to you you know what I mean like you your perspectives your perspective there's some I always like Atlanta comics and this is another respect to Atlanta Comics but when you're coming up and you you do those shows with 30 comics on the show I like DJ be ready because they gonna be a music bit for every damn comment that goes up I remember being in Atlanta and I said and I'm I'm at Uptown and I said hey I told you today before I said hey man what we not going to do is a comedy relay We're not gonna do this [ __ ] because I just can't do it because it's too many and it's too much of the same [ __ ] and then I get on stage I say hey um just want to ask apparently everybody in Atlanta just smoked weed and [ __ ] because our parents all your comments yeah so nobody wants something about this asbestos ass goddamn Curry back here you might want to listen about that like [Music] I think I've said in Atlanta I've said some of the most outlandish [ __ ] to an audience because I'm in Atlanta yo um Wanda Wanda Smith's hosting she's trying to bring out I say hey oh I'm I'm next she's like what maybe you you concerned I'm not concerned about nothing I'm next though cause I'm the headline of the show the hosts don't run the [ __ ] show I don't give a damn what y'all think I'm next so I go up I ain't allowed to finish introducing me I just walked I just walked out what year is this [ __ ] um when did I do that up time it had to be maybe like yeah that's uh yeah it's probably about six seven years ago I say I walk out and I say hey um let me give y'all some leeway so y'all could go um if you don't read [ __ ] and you don't know about current events or the past or history or or any of this type of educational [ __ ] but you would have to know as a normal human being you might as well leave now because you're not gonna like my show cause I'm gonna say a lot of [ __ ] complete words but that's you know I always I always say tell people like I don't watch stand up like that I can watch a clip but I just I can't watch an hour of somebody just because I do it so much and I always want to feel like my jokes are mine but I'll I'll see you know you see some on Instagram or Tick Tock and things like that you'll watch a clip and like yo I think part of your strength is you can go after 10 comics doing dick [ __ ] dick [ __ ] dick [ __ ] and it'll take you a couple minutes and then the crowd kind of settles in and then you sit on the stool and it feels like the whole crowd sits on a stool and all of a sudden they're just listening and in the beginning you want the the big laughs but man when you got a captive audience just listening and not a compared to Louis Farrakhan but I was on the Tom Joyner cruise and they did the legends of hip-hop one night at like midnight and it was over at 2 A.M I was there he was on that cruise oh yeah when when trech was on that goddamn stage and it's three something in the morning and Farrakhan came out oh and [ __ ] was trying to straighten up the only thing I thought was you gotta letters of hip-hop and it was the and it was in the club part of the damn boat and everybody's rocking I go how's it going to file this church ain't got no shirt on yeah and and if you look at you if somebody had the video Fair cars on stage I know of a fact trash didn't have on a certain all of a sudden [Laughter] James Brown I didn't show well I had a next show on that boat I couldn't wait I had a day show too I couldn't wait I said so we gonna let's let's discuss what happened last night everybody's drunk and I was on Christians Christians drunken anything toe up walks out I thought [ __ ] is pushing [ __ ] out of them get off me the middle sister yeah it's like I remember but yeah I mean you're similar to that though because the I I that's the only Compares I can think of is because the way that crowd was like in hysterics and then they just all sudden he's two minutes in Austin it was silent and everybody would just listened and then he became it was a sermon after that do you know what's crazy I never forget it I'm standing next to my partner and he got this chick and she she's tore up drunk and and his how she got his her chin on his shoulder but she sliding a little bit he said come on [ __ ] [Laughter] I'll leave now I'm Drunk Together We all on the first of all I did I couldn't wait to talk about it because I was like first off man do y'all know that Farrakhan was fully dressed like he ain't had no like no the nation Islam pajama set another night but Bobby what's the big preacher that was on there Bobby um up at three 30 in the morning decided to come to the damn Club while we in here acting on food man but he brought him right in man right in dude I I I I remember thinking when he said when he was telling people we were the first people I remember looking around going I was so into I go I ain't talking about me I want to look around like we were second we'll take we'll take a second we're here for the Mexicans and Asians but recently I've noticed like I think we all know those guys like I always see stand-ups very similar to boxing uh where we're all like independent contractors basically and we all got those guys that we know are funny that might not be selling as many tickets yet as other people but we know they funny you know and I think recently you're finally getting your due as far as ticket sales because who I don't really the thing about it is like yeah you want the respect to other Comics man but we got a pair of bills with this we gotta sell some tickets you know what I mean so I've noticed like you can get online and see people at comedy clubs who's coming who just left and you can tell people when you you get out you get a couple days out you'll be like oh [ __ ] he's got four shows sold out already and then sometimes you'll be like when the [ __ ] that happened you know what I mean like this oh he's still on tickets now because you could tell you know like you could tell how many tickets certain people were selling you're like oh he's selling yeah now do you you think you accredited to your YouTube specials more than anything else 100 I I and I I say it's a bunch of stuff I say it's the Stepping Stones I I give it to Comedy Central with um Ari shaffir show this is not happening which um was the birth of Mexican got on boots as they affectionately called it but it's called a prison ride Mitchell the mushroom story then doing a half hour Comedy Central doing a full hour Comedy Central and people just constantly seen I just kept chipping at it so then when the YouTube specials came out and being on Rogan and all that type of stuff I think that it all just merged together you just kept peppering yeah and then people just put it all together oh that's him from here that's him from here yeah it just kept jabbing at it now weren't you on um then they bring back like Funniest Comic or something like that bring the funny I was gonna bring it from NBC's bringing the funny was Russell Peters a judge no it was um Chrissy Teigen um Jeff Foxworthy Keenan Thompson that's right one Matt Rife on that with you yes it was he gets second no he wasn't he didn't get top five oh really no I don't know why I thought that you won it right no I didn't win it who won it of a variety thing that um you know what's crazy when you can see something happening before it's happening and I said it I went up to the production people they like I said um question the people who just got voted back home do they get do people get to vote for them again in the finals I said I don't think they should come back to the finals because it doesn't make sense I say because of this the people who voted for them already are already acclimated to voting we gonna have to explain and keep explaining it for the next 24 hours of how to vote and where to vote now these people already think about that already voting and I said it I say I guarantee that they win I don't know alias if anybody goes back to that show I'm sitting in the front like this when they well these are the five this and I'm sitting in front like this with the whole face of I'm not even in the running to win because these people people already know how to vote what was the first price uh 250 000. and I remember and I never get it D.L called me the night before and said hey I know you're on this show I know it's gonna sound crazy as hell to you but I don't want you to win I said what I say why either one no one remembers who beat Lavell Crawford in Last Comic Standing [ __ ] should take it back to the first one yeah remember Ralphie May yeah that fan and was that the guy the one the Batman one Ralphie May I don't even know Ralphie May oh you know at that Lavelle was on everything Lavelle was on my goddamn favorite show it was that after that he's on Breaking Bad yeah let me go back to your point I I thought you won it because I wasn't it wasn't like I had a dvr'd I gotta watch it it was just like you see I think you stop when you see a show that you haven't seen on network TV because as a stand-up as you know that's not your real act you got to water it down so I'm always curious to see how people acclimate like let me see what they gonna do with this because I know some of his jokes like he can't he a Storyteller how they can't tell that two minutes yeah I know right and the worst is you're telling it to some they're not some people aren't real Comics like Chrissy teigen's gonna critique you on stand up I remember when they had uh remember um they brought Star Search back and they had uh one of The Judds the one of The Judds was one of the country singers one of the judges and she was critiquing this dude and this dude was looking at her like like [ __ ] because you know who it was like a c I can't remember it was it was a seasoned Rose comic and she was trying to tell him what was wrong with his act and I was like oh my God he was done he want to say [ __ ] I think I saw him mouthing like [ __ ] it's um I think that was my my hardest thing and the thing is I was trying to lose every week anybody on that show no Ali was trying to lose every week until the show still like I went in like okay let me go do some [ __ ] they they let me out in the first round because I was already on tour I was like I don't want to stop why'd you do in the first place dinner with my agent and he he always has a plan look we need to steal some fans we need to steal some fans we just this is about eyeballs this is that has nothing to do with your career winning losing eyeballs okay I buy into the [ __ ] and going through it going through it then people hit me oh I kind of want you to win and boom so now cut to go through the whole plan of it shows start selling out after that who's doing well but then after that I'm getting somewhere in between 55 and 68 year old people coming to my shows out of nowhere uh limited fan base it's not going they're not gonna be here to grow with you so my first I remember when I noticed it I said that my whole front row was a [ __ ] parking lot like I should have been at a casino because it was like all these chairs these all these everybody was just backed in in the front what's going on and then I start noticing that older people that watch that that network will come to see me and it just started merging so now I start looking at it just imagine the BET Awards the uh American Music Awards the country western music awards and um Coachella all in one club that's what my fan base was it's like it's like a a dude smoking weed smoking weed next to a dude with a Marlboro it's a boots online before spell summer camp have you done that yet no I haven't it's same I said I did it once and I was like oh this is uh this is an interesting gig you're outside so the laughs kind of die because you're in a field and it's very hard to make a seven-year-old white woman an 18 year old black kid laughing the same jokes and that's what you're getting the Chappelle stuff yeah so you'll you'll hit like probably your shows back then you'll tell joking you'll get a pocket over here pocket over here every now and then you'll get that one the air by God you're like okay that was a keeper it was it was um and then when I started shifting into the stories which was perfect for when you get younger people to pay attention all the people already locked in for it like you know I come I watch madlock I come here for stories young people like come on [ __ ] but then they bought once they start understanding that oh and I remember I remember this this young white kid this dude black guy was like hey man what are you gonna start young white kid nudge him they together today he don't do that this time yeah so I'm doing the show and then I get into it then this white kid at the end he said hey did you hear me tell him I said I said I was looking right at you yeah [Laughter] ask him tonight I'm like how was it he was like you're [ __ ] A Sterile guy I'm thinking that you're supposed to come out you're supposed to start to do that like I said you just got nudged by a white kid on the the manners of a black man have you always been like that though did it or did you did it evolve into that I think I've gotten better with it that they I was like that but now it's just I'm better at it now you know it was still a work in process you know in progress but I just got better as I was going because that nervous energy well they still there I'm you you're I don't know if you rewatch some of your first gigs whether it's comfy or nothing um I watch me I'm flying I'm yelling at the TV slow down bro slow down you know when I learned that half hour special I didn't think I was going do call me he's like hey about to shoot uh um a half hour I got your message I call so many people to ask about how to shoot a special in a it's like a light bulb went off of my head Mass majority of comics have never shot a special and damn sure haven't shot no network special and I was calling big people they was like right you don't do this [ __ ] yeah [Music] so DL calls back and he's like hey only tip go slow and I said I already go slow go slower if I tell you that I negated to really understand this what this advice was until and we in the prep you shot a special man say if something happens just go quiet go to the side come back and reset so I'm looking at the looking at the teleprompter and they have all of my material on the teleprompter but I walked out and they say hey if you need a couple minutes to get get it going and then we'll start so I'm out I'm going out I'm about seven minutes in I haven't said [ __ ] on the telepropter yet about seven minutes in and then you see this big flashy thing to say sweating sweating no [ __ ] sweating and I am dripping wet oh they're saying you're sweating and I stopped like it's go quiet I walk to the side I'll get all the slit off me and I take a deep breath and I say go slow I walk back out and then I get it I get into it that you cannot account for the adrenaline that you have once you get out there like I thought I was going slow but that [ __ ] was going so I was talking so fast it was crazy and I know how slow I am I was like why am I saying this [ __ ] all so fast but I was so excited like wow I think it's human nature though because you you see like dang I think in the back of your brain like damn if this hits I'm up here you know what I mean it's that nervous hey and that's why I say when I when I see Clips uh like when I was what was the title one that was that you just shot in Houston oh abdominal effect abdominal effect too was that only in black and white no that's the one in black and white is too it's too lost but you that was just black white there's not a black white in the color version no it's just just black and white well we shot at color and then we we we we released the black and white why did you choose black and white um effects wanted to be a piece of art and I've always loved black and white like yeah I'm a big apple Hitchcock fan big like I watch the black I watch black and white anything yeah if it's in black and white and I and I'm scrolling by the TV I have never passed anything black and white without stopping at least saying what what it is oh I've seen that one if it's a western and black and white I'm watching every second of it yeah I was wondering why you chose that like I always look at like everything production wise in a uh a special like like I said I won't watch the whole thing but I'll sit there and watch a clip and I'm like okay he's why did you just sit on the stool if he doesn't normally why is he wearing that jacket like you said sweating because when I shoot stuff I'm very like fabric conscious like okay I don't want my pits sweating out you know what I mean I don't want to wear something too heavy I got to be comfortable I I go on the stage and I'm like uh what's the temperature gonna be at when I hit this stage I can't have it go up to 75. yeah I need I need to be hanging steaks in the back I need to have like 65 and I'm on stage you know what I mean yeah because I've seen a couple specials and I'm like this dude is I've been leaking but I've seen other people like he's leaking so first special the shot by myself shot on the independence I have on a Louis Vuitton a navy blue Louis Vuitton sweatsuit and inside that Louis Vuitton sweat so there's a pool going on and my makeup job um not saying that that it wasn't good but it wasn't prepared for the lights it's at at some point I was melting but they have something to spray to conceal it yeah so and it conceals it somewhat I don't think she had it because I'm wiping all portions of my face and everything so they we paid I think it was 2500 dollars for color correction wow yeah they call it cost me 2500 extra dollars and that's just strictly because of sweating and makeup yep they colored this man color correct I don't even know what the price whatever technical process this is but he got every sweat bead that he could get oh really off of it isn't that amazing how they can do that stuff it's amazing even when you watch specials and you go that that that laugh did not go with that joke they'll go to an audience and I'll be like that that wasn't that joke that laugh did not go with that joke that was one thing that I'm hell-bent on like if anybody ever even heard any of my albums I got like seven albums any out every single album is shot with the natural sound I will I refuse to add like I won't go out in front and do a lab track I won't let them do no laugh tracks no don't pull nothing from nowhere it has to be authentically what it was when it happened I don't want that's the one thing that that is us is a staple on every concert do not add if the [ __ ] didn't hit well we got another show after this we got it we got we shooting two shows like we gonna get it somewhere but we're not gonna add because that's the one thing I don't I never want people to do is listen even like [ __ ] that didn't happen yeah yeah because of that laughing it doesn't it ain't even on Time come on man that didn't didn't happen right there but you know it's funny you know uh you know Eric Griffin yes he got special to one of them and I said I texted him I was on a plane and I was I turned it on a plane and he did it at the Laugh Factory in in Long Beach and they did it cleared the two shows because one he'll be starting a joke and there'll be two white girls and they'll come back the same joke there's two black girls and I'm like dude they should have put two micros in the front row here what was that I could watch if he watches like two white girls and two black girls throughout the whole special on text him I go dude who edited your [ __ ] laughs [Laughter] obvious like take the ground shot out like dude I don't even need it you couldn't almost help it because you know the stage like this and they sat people right here and so they're right there you can see it though with with cameras if you got so say if you shoot with four cameras somebody got you up here that you it got to be a cutaway yeah it gotta be a cut away like somebody got real lazy like yeah and then somebody was watching they go to two black girls again yeah this is uh four girls look nobody's gonna see this special hey I've been in things that people say that to me about before One mic stand one might think Kevin Hart was hosting it yeah that was when they tried to someone bring back Comic View esque no what this is the show that nobody wanted to air people call each other did you air do you yeah yeah yeah I was like and it's like well anybody is like yeah I think Cottage years RP Courtney G that that's my fam I bought a dog from Cody yeah he was a breeder yeah that's an Ohio guy yeah that's when you your guys you know Cleveland he Cleveland Tennessee I do it like man I didn't know that it was that many comedy clubs in that area in Ohio in Ohio think about the pandemic I was like I did all five spots in the pandemic if you Florida Texas and Ohio can't represent the comics working brother yeah and I did that's why I was at here Florida Ohio you got legit clubs too and I like B rooms yeah just joking yeah I just joking you had you got Toledo Columbus Cincinnati Dayton uh Cleveland yeah that's five it is two clubs in Cleveland hilarities and yeah um the um the Improv yeah I mean funny bone that's five weeks of work you think about it at least easy you know I'm sure there's other other B markets but those five are all legit where you can make some money and sell some tickets same with Florida yeah you got Jacksonville three clubs down in Miami Orlando Tampa Orlando Jacksonville um West uh West Palm Marco you got Marco you have um I did a show one time down in um Boca Raton oh really yeah it's a it's a a restaurant called vix uh some restaurant it'll come to me but yeah Texas Texas just got two in Dallas Houston San Antonio Austin El Paso so those three states it's like you it's so much intact it's so much in Texas I remember doing McAllen Texas had no idea go down there me and Juan Villarreal yeah it is 7 000 Mexicans in a to Hano Club [Laughter] and we do hey we don't understand you know the military base in Texas too yeah you got yeah gotta go man there's a lot going on in Texas yeah yeah a lot going on in Texas so how do you go I always say like people always ask me because I went for military to stand up and our timeline is very similar because like I got out of the military in 98. and doing I started doing stand-up right before I got out but you're prison how long were you in prison six years dang I was in the Navy for six years that's crazy but I'm sitting here going I knew in the military I'm gonna be a stand-up did you know until I said it in 1994 I was in I was like 1994 the dude named Rick asked me say everybody's talking about what they're gonna do when they got out and it when I used to listen it used to be a whole bunch of very detailed and very well crafted crime plans was it a Max security principle yeah I'll be the Max and what's crazy is I would listen to dudes try to put a mafia family together so when we get out right you gonna be my mans this goes back to the you are the company you keep your circle will dictate do you know that everybody writing gonna be on parole we got and none of us are supposed to hang together that's when the stimulates the parole you cannot hang with other Parolees so how in the hell you gonna be my mans like so I never get Rick ass anybody talking and I'm still a young boy at this time Rick say say man lee what you gonna do when you get out I said man on the cold probably gonna be a stand-up comedian man he's like I could see that I can see that hell yeah man out of everybody I heard a lot of [ __ ] man I've been a long time hell yeah oh yeah man the young boy gonna be good cause I used to the [ __ ] that I used to do in there versus Cowboy fans because I I grew up on the back of the bus I always could talk about somebody easy work but Cowboy fans Dallas Cowboy fan the type of [ __ ] that I used to say against Cowboy fans I would watch the game win or lose and this is the 90s they kicking ass in 90s and I am still I'm winning the jonesing game against it but they were in prison you got to be careful you take it too far but I'm I'm almost I'm a street dude like what's gonna happen they it's like this this is what people kill people they talk about prison they always think something's gonna happen to somebody like hey dude you do know like I told this guy I said you do know I didn't go to prison for singing in the [ __ ] choir like I was like no number opponent coming in it's like it's like when somebody getting a ring no fighter only people that can't fight think this no fighter thinks that somebody is too big for them not one I remember watching The Ultimate Fighter and the dude he's 155 pounds he walked in the kitchen and Kimbo Slice was in the kitchen and he said Kimball whoop your ass and people like what I do to you he's just a [ __ ] fact that people think that you just this rugged ass fighter I deal with your ass and I remembered it so vividly because we was in the barbershop having this argument I said man you know what's crazy y'all scared of Kimbo Slice I'm not [ __ ] scared of Kimbo Slice for me you getting he this one before he was an ultimate fight he was fighting people in Miami the street fights getting out a [ __ ] Pathfinder and he's like he was ripping the past fight off of him yeah say man if I got out of a [ __ ] clown call would and be like oh that's crazy and then people who know me they're like no no no no do y'all understand get this [ __ ] can fight fight like Ali ain't no man you know I spawn a gym every week like I know multiple disciplines now I'm in the Stream I didn't [ __ ] people up in the streets like what make you think I've never been scared of nobody that's I think that's the whole other thing I've never been scared of one single person because I didn't like the feeling of being scared yeah man I'd rather fight because I don't like this feeling of being scared and I remember being with somebody and everyone was went the other way because they saw a dude coming I was like what are we doing he said no man what maybe we can't go there I keep going you go I'm not going is it is the racial uh divide is real as they make it out to be in prison at least the one you went to I think this is what happens that I had several white friends several Mexican friends several Asian friends but the the groups people who group together get a lot more recognition than me and you being Sally's and then like Ebony and Ivory up there cool as hell all the time and then but don't never say that Aaron Nation tried to come at you and you said no I don't get down like that and then they tried to force you and I said yo he said they don't get out like that so what's what's the problem so y'all want to fight both of us or something because he just said he don't [ __ ] deal with the racial [ __ ] and I don't and I ain't with the racial [ __ ] so what's up I mean you can so you can really you can be in your own thing the only people that can't be is Mexicans there's no you belong to a family if you're from San Antonio are you from Texas you from Houston Dallas you from you from the valley for some reason they they separate like you got Aztecas that's more like they're more native they're more native Hispanics like they like they kind of look like Indian and man so you know and you can tell where people from and then you got your Asian guys who may be or we all Vietnamese so we're a little Vietnamese click but it's not enough of us to be tripping we just we just cool but if you get into it with one of us it's probably gonna be all of us with us I'm Muslim Mexican Muslims white Muslims Asian Muslims if you mess with any of us it's a problem but is it is it and I don't understand naive but I would always take it as if you've been in prison for a long time so now that this is just your life you get it I always would think the young guys would be the Hot Heads that when they think about arguments and fights you like you gotta calm down they are you know what I mean this I remember being a young a young boy my first my first two years I was probably more Savage than I should have been because it's it's like the first day of school you you putting in yo hey this is who I am yeah don't nobody know who you are so you and this is who I am and this is it's gonna be this is how I deal with [ __ ] you ever stand by outside of yourself come in and just like you're like whoa that was surprising yeah like don't judge a book by its covering it just walks in like oh when I when I [ __ ] with this dude yep yep we called him tap out tap out little white boy if you want to get your ass tapped in public if you want to tap out and [ __ ] with a little wife go [ __ ] with tap out we used to love when people would come in there tap out and cookie little short dude ain't cooking five five was he white or black he white I mean he black cookie cookie came in and took his shoes off I never get took his shoes off and put his shoes on on the table and say there's some nice shoes ain't it just know you got to give ass to get ass and I said somebody about to get their ass whooped [ __ ] with them shoes tap out tab I used to always this is how you talk very nerdy man I'm just looking like a [ __ ] dirty Mouse but Tapout had been doing Muay Thai since he was [ __ ] four years old or some [ __ ] his father was some Muay Thai spit up kicking head Champion or some [ __ ] because you talk about Kung Fu all the time backward long Fist and his father Taekwondo and boy Ty and all this [ __ ] and we watched this dude come in and [ __ ] with him trying to take his hot pot s are Hot Pot like you bought water in it so plug it up boom so he come in [ __ ] Hot Pot plugged up over here it's um tap out I'm taking this [ __ ] that white little white boy taking this [ __ ] cause I ain't got one and everybody like hey man alone [Laughter] being [ __ ] the little white boy man that battle came out there with his goddamn coffee cup and I never get because he swung around and went over his head excuse me I think you I think by mistake you may pick up my hot pot by mistake and it was like no I took your [ __ ] hot pot and we counted down we counted it old school start 10. 9 5 bye [Music] are you choking them out they got their own bar yeah oh [ __ ] first of all so he had him when he's up right here and he got his [ __ ] his foot and legs is over the smoker he just he's just like this he said he took it that man home he broke it broke it damn broke that [ __ ] bro cause once he said once I say hey but you about to get it back his mind is but he ain't he could not rap He said he intentionally took it yeah that [ __ ] was [Laughter] here's the bad part about prison you get your let's Okay you get you get your ass kicked in the street you never see that guy again right you gotta see that [ __ ] you got to see us every day you got to see us and you can't talk [ __ ] anymore and some [ __ ] gonna be said to you sugar this gay dude named sugar because the dude didn't understand because he said this man he ain't [ __ ] with no [ __ ] named sugar and I said hey um just want to throw this out there we don't call him sugar because he's gay we called him sugar for Sugar Ray Leonard this [ __ ] fight and sugar I never get it keep because when you throw you in the shower area and people throwing underwear from under the thing because he he works in laundry so he's throwing underwear up on the thing you just call out your size and they just throw them before the thing so he threw the big dude some underwear that wasn't that somebody had used and blew out the bag it's a community underwear [ __ ] unless you get some brand new ones you know somebody working the line get some brand news get your own fresh pair of underwear you guys ever turn them back and just wash them yourself dude hey [ __ ] who threw these [ __ ] ass on the web meet me and I never forget in my life because [ __ ] with somebody there who said somebody a [ __ ] [Laughter] he said um the [ __ ] sugar said hey if you see a [ __ ] you slam a [ __ ] we'll bring yo [ __ ] out here he said I didn't told this [ __ ] I'm not gonna be no moment since it did can't run it she could say hey let me tell you something [ __ ] thing what I'm gonna do is this big [ __ ] imma whoop your ass and I'm gonna stick my finger in your ass after I'm finished with you now everybody everybody's a little quiet in the shower everybody look tight like this big man because we know it's about [ __ ] apps yeah big man I'm gonna chase big man is on his [ __ ] stomach because up by a former Golden Glove boxing champion [ __ ] that he was bad so who okay and you saying about having to see somebody all the time sugar whooped him and every time he saw him he would do this [Laughter] [ __ ] was like this hey man hey man y'all told me that [ __ ] ain't touched me oh man yeah he said he said he didn't do it but every time because the crazy thing is you fighting somebody naked fam this mother got on clothes he working the laundry he can't run he told you so just imagine you there and every time they might see you and we know what it means everybody knows yeah he got transferred I think he got transferred from that unit to another unit sugar did or the other guy not the other guy all right got transfer big boy got transfer yeah okay who who wins between sugar and Tapout they got in a fight I'm gonna go oh [ __ ] if Tap Out kiss Sugar's arm or some [ __ ] I swear that's a good way to close the show who you think's gonna win this weekend the Texas and me is gonna go spends the dog of me is gonna go Bud I just got to try to steal this I'm gonna be in Austin and Joe Rogan I'll be doing a show without a steal a fight so I'm never off and I'm off this weekend I get to I get to actually just sit down and watch it man I've never been so jealous of the individual in my life because you just because I've every time there's a fight I'm working I know and I never get a chance to see uh actual fight I've recorded I spy it and then I tell nobody don't don't know my own yeah you you record it you watch as much as you can you press pause and you get off stage you finish watching it but the problem is your Natural Instincts is to get on your phone and the first thing that pops up is no matter what page you're like [ __ ] I would I won't I won't do it if if I of course if I buy that fight and I record it and we feel like with the um with tank I came off I came off like this no devices no no it's on the screen as soon as I come in I put everybody in the green room I'm just in there and I'm in the same way man I just man because boxing I I box so I'm I'm and the crazy thing is I remember when I called out a particular individual and people was like I'll leave you too big that's when that's when you don't fight man I spar with people who bigger than me all the time I was just in the room I was just in the round in the um in the ring would do name trouble he won 68. you got a big fight coming he won 68. I'm 155. I just wanted to go see Chappelle and I ate two tubs of popcorn because I wonder why all that goddamn popcorn I ate last night and as soon as I said it it looked like it wasn't [ __ ] he just right up under my goal he just tapped me on my stomach and you can see me on the tape because we feel all of them my mouth is full of other blocks that [ __ ] go right all right it's like it was sitting right there he did I said and my train was like Hey man you want to stop getting your ass about these big dudes I'm like don't nobody my size wanna Spar though because they were like hey man lee he don't be playing I'm like it's sparring it's gonna get heated at some point that we get in there we're gonna get heated by round three I'm probably heated I'm I'm probably a little hot now because you didn't caught me with something wrong because I'm gonna do like four rounds but them big dudes Todd manual beat the [ __ ] out me and this is right after he just fought Victor Ortiz he I'm in the room I'm in the ring with Todd Emanuel and he is literally beating the [ __ ] out of me and I'm like okay all right what about Charlo and Canelo oh man Charlo you think I'm thinking Charlo I'm thinking Charlo um it's gonna be a good one because Canelo is a beast he's fighting a smaller he's small he's fighting the smaller brother which is weird to me because you have the bigger ones sitting in the same weight class why you why you didn't want to fight him they got to get but they got to get right up here I think that's why he's fighting the huge one Houston we wow sometimes oh I know but I mean almost got to be a little wild box in the first place gotta be a little while yeah you gotta be wild to do it you know what I mean Regis Regis people's that's that's my that's my guy like the gym I'm at midtown midtown boxing gym Derrick Lewis MMA fighter yeah comes out of there but Regis Prevost is a 140 WBC champ um O'Shea false is the 130 um WBC champ we we have a lot of Champs in there we have a lot of fighters in there and then they do MMA and boxing yeah so and this this little Asian chick Man Killer Bee I know killer bee yeah she's a [ __ ] mom yeah she's always fighting over in like Thailand and what's it called the one yeah yeah that's my girl man she always comes to see me when I'm in town yes yeah she's good people man yeah killer bee yeah well I don't want to keep y'all we went a little over I don't know man we had to we had to find out who would win between tap out and sugar could be like hey man we're out of time so were you this weekend you're in Austin I'm in Austin this weekend and next weekend when I'm in uh Hartford Connecticut which I don't even in the mall yeah in the [ __ ] mall nothing to do there man nothing to do Mall in Hartford Connecticut I remember this it's so it's so not nothing to do that I'll never forget this I was watching and I and I opened up I opened it with this every time I come to as soon as I come out there I don't know why I'm back here because who comes to a place where you watch on the news that they say we found a man's hands all right and we have closed the case that was the end and I'm like so they closed the case they found the man okay I I don't want to be here I'm cool with Harper Harper's a restful weekend I'm Hotel Club Hotel Club Hotel Comedy Club Sunday in Hartford another thing that happened to Hartford that made me I don't know why I keep coming back here it's um this is little boy he just learned to walk had to be like maybe 10 months maybe he just now getting his steps together they already got some heavy ass Tim's on his little boy he just he's just trying to get his [ __ ] together and his father it has no passion it's about saying hey come on the [ __ ] on why you moving so [ __ ] slow and he said this [ __ ] so hard I thought he was talking to me I was like a lot I was like because he turns around himself like yo man you don't [ __ ] know me forever but if I was walking slow I thought he was talking to me did I look down and this is baby I'm like this [ __ ] baby is not it's not this is not a good parent well that's a funny story about Hartford we talk about ticket sales right when Kevin was about to pop I'm in Hartford Connecticut and it was one of those you see Kevin headlining but he wasn't selling a bunch of tickets back then also now I went out to some bar and my buddy was telling these girls he's like yeah Gary's here this weekend the girl goes oh I'm about to take some cab next week I don't know if I can see both like what the [ __ ] he's like remember this week and then I went to the club and I go how's Kevin when they go he's already sold out I go oh [ __ ] this guy just popped oh I'm trying to I'm trying to just add a show if I'm lucky yes I already sold out in advance yeah I'm I'm it's weird because people call me now it's like okay [ __ ] always I already sold out right you come here for a whole month I'm like yo man I always wanted that because Russell Peters I never forget I have goals and [ __ ] when I see something um Russell Peters Houston Improv you [ __ ] Russell Peters um little Duvall and [ __ ] them and [ __ ] Michael Blackson have made me the [ __ ] maddest of all times in my city I think you did like [ __ ] two weeks you did some two-week [ __ ] I did two weeks here now yeah yeah some [ __ ] like that and then um um d Ray came in then like 14 shows or some [ __ ] yeah Michael Blackson did like 11 Duvall did like 37. like when he had the song I'm like yo man what the [ __ ] is going on man and but Russell Peters still is the top [ __ ] [ __ ] Russell Peters wasn't coming to Houston for four months four solid ass months you couldn't get a Russell Peters ticket in this town and he had sold out I think it was like 10 or 15 shows he wasn't coming for four I wouldn't buy a ticket for somebody in four months because I would [ __ ] forget that I was going and then I planned for Usher for four months and I was like yo man I can't wait to people travel I sell out before it's all these goals like I don't see how people get tired of like get bored with comedy because I said I never reach your goals though goals like I think you're talking about selling out in advance right yeah once you start doing that then you're like all right I move here here you never I guarantee you I guarantee you Kevin has racist goals Kevin probably like I want to go the moon I want to do a show for NASA you know what I mean like what's left and you know what's coming hey what's up what's up what's up Mars he'd be the first one floating in the space shuttle yeah he performed between Venus and [ __ ] Jupiter he would he he I hate we're saying it because I guarantee he's thinking it he's like yes I haven't thought of that like this just [ __ ] space where I can go and you know you look up you'll see a KH in the sky or something and then Trump will be talking about I told you about the space force I hate we even said it God damn it it's motivating though because I mean I mean look at yourself and then I mean look at recently the Matt Rife yeah you know I mean you worked with them he went solo tickets when you guys filmed that show neither were you and now look look Matt's a porn star though man if I had that many little young white girls want to [ __ ] me I would never have on a shot guy talking about Ohio not Ohio guy been knowing him since he was 16. crazy right yeah I remember Gary Abdul told me about him Gary Abdul yep Gary I'll tell you what say what you want about that dude that [ __ ] can find some Talent he can fight here Ricky smile in the beginning he had an earthquake in the beginning and Matt Rife in the beginning just hilarious in the beginning the more [ __ ] find some talent and he booked me first real Rogue gig I ever had when I got on Comic View was Uptown in Atlanta first one so you say what you want about no no I didn't say nothing about Gary so you gotta stop putting 30 people on the show around town Gary that's the only thing man I know you're trying to discover everybody but slow down slow down here I'm with you though when I do Uptown like this it's me and my guys nobody else bro no guest spots you know I I had a thing in place where I like I didn't even want anybody from Atlanta unless I approved them in the building I'm like no I don't know no Atlanta guys in here Ronnie Jordan um Sean Larkins JJ from the Sip when he was there you know like I I had to give him a list this is who allowed in here that's it yeah we're not here yeah I remember rip dirty style Ali I hate you [Laughter] I'm like I know you're not it's too many people rip dirty so I loved it yeah yeah yeah all right man I appreciate you coming on my first guest first guest since I moved everybody and funny like you're the you're the ex-convict and everybody makes fun of my my back job but hey when you get out of that Ding solitary confinement Studio you in but what's crazy you see I usually don't come to podcast with my bag [Laughter] we're at the Post Oak everybody we have the Post Oak it's nice in this building [Laughter] I appreciate it
