I instantly thought of the billionaire owner of Leicester City F.C. that died in a helicopter crash a few years ago when I heard this,. I don't know if statistically helicopters are relatively dangerous compared to other vehicles, but you know these guys had the BEST pilots and helicopters. If they do decide it was unflyable weather with this incident, I hope it will give every helicopter pilot motivation to say "we can't fly right now" regardless of who cuts their paycheck.
LA traffic killed Kobe and Gigi
As a JR civil engineer student I will dedicate my career to stopping LA traffic as much as possible
The reality is that Helicopters aren't particularly dangerous. The fatality rate is .5 deaths per 100,000 flight hours. Kobe Bryant likely spent less than 1,000 hours hours total on Helicopters flying 6 days a week for years.
Tomorrow isn't promised.
I can't tell you how bad is LA traffic. Musk trying to make tunnels and self driving electric cyber trucks. Kobe with helicopter. There is no solution
I'll be honest and say I didn't remember the rape allegations until they were brought up today, but NPR had a sports announcer on that said it was the rape trial that brought on the need to travel by helicopter. In order to comply with the trial in Colorado and make it to games on time, he flew via helicopter. Eventually, he got comfortable with it and used it to fly from home to Staples Center.
not sure how people will feel about this but I listened to the air traffic control exchanges with his helicopter before the crash and it seemed like a huge undertaking and many variables for what he was doing.
taking a few girls to a basketball practice on sundayβs should not be that intricate and risky. Itβs one thing for commercial airlines to move planned passenger payloads but trivial use of a helicopter leaves way to much possibility for a catastrophic outcome.
I wish his family all the best but the daughter didnβt know better, I feel the adults should have.
I'll probably get killed for this because redditors don't have any concept of critical thinking or nuance, but is this really heartbreaking? He was able to do this because he's incredibly rich, I'm sure millions of other people also miss seeing their kids because of traffic. Also it doesn't even seem heartbreaking in general, he's just describing a solution he came up with for his problem. Obviously what happened this weekend is very sad, but I think this title is just begging for upvotes.
Heartbreakingly think about all the people also trying to go home after a long day's work to watch their kid act in a play but who can't afford a helicopter.
Oh fucking heartbreak. Fucking "heartbreaking motive to start travelling by helicopter". How sad that the millionaire had no other choice but to choose travel by helicopter. There are millions of struggling families in the world who have to put up with hell, but here let's hear about the heart-rending story of how a millionaire had no choice but to start using a helicopter to get around. Nobody wants to hear about a guy and his daughter dying, but that title is more bullshit than I heard in a long time, it looks like a parody.
