this guest murdered two people in the host home and got arrested there people that host their home on airbnb what has been your worst experience with a guest we are live-in hosts so we are present while guests stay in our spare room a guest arrived and immediately announced that they had poop himself during their journey they then marked us down for cleanliness mate you pooped yourself also a guest who found a pair of my flip-flops in a wardrobe that they should not have opened then pooped over the bathroom floor ruining my favorite flip-flops in the process also a guest who went out drinking for 10 hours before checking in meaning i had to collect them from the taxi put them in bed in the recovery position check on them when i woke up for work then call the taxi company on their behalf when it turned out they'd lost their phone [Music] i used to travel a lot for work and i would put my apartment up on airbnb while i was away my apartment has a bunch of closets and drawers which i use to leave empty and at my guest's disposal however there is one closet in the bedroom which i kept locked because it is where i keep my personal belongings one time a guest left a bad review saying that the place had no storage space which i was very confused about until i got home and saw my closet dude had tried to open it using brute force the door was almost pulled off its hinges and the wood was chipped in some places the door in question had two padlocks and the perfectly usable closet on the opposite wall was untouched rented out to a group of four girls turns out they were going partying every day during their stay i get called one day at 5 a.m it's the guard from my building telling me there is a passed out girl in the lobby couch puking and pissing herself none of her friends had gone back to help her ruin the couch obviously the next day they sent me a message again another one of the girls had sprinted to the building stairs and also pissed herself my sister and her fiance stayed in an airbnb that really was full of cameras they found out because the owner text them almost immediately after they exited the seemly private indoor hot tub and not yet returned the lid before they even changed out of swimwear which they luckily chose to wear they found a lot of cameras throughout the house including bathrooms and bedrooms they never thought to even look it was the first time they'd ever vacationed without real adults she was obviously immediately horrified because they were clearly watching them airbnb apologized profusely and gave their money back along with providing a free hotel their last couple days of the trip but still someone replied i have a story along these lines though not airbnb this happened about 35 years ago i had a friend who was a member of a church he and his girlfriend got a place to live a converted shed that was offered to them by one of the ladies that went to their church also a devout christian the shedda joined her home but had been fitted out with a bedroom toilet kitchen etc while they were there for a couple of months they had decided to wait until they were married but in the end could not help themselves and one night had intercourse for the first time the next day the lady owner told them they had to leave because they'd had sex before marriage and that was a sin they said okay but then the guy got curious they'd only done it for the first time last night how did she know after examining everything they discovered she'd placed a microphone under the bed i told him to call the police but he didn't want to cause trouble so they left and they did get married a few months later and as far as i know are still married today i found it hilarious that she considered pre-marital sex a sin but listening to someone in their bedroom was fine a guy i work with told this story how he hired a maid through a referral from his friend she was great apparently and asked to stay there a couple times when he was gone after he agreed to let her stay a few weeks when it wasn't being rented however she ghosted him he ended up calling the cops and they checked up on her she was there and although nervous everything seemed normal she later got a hold of him and asked to stay longer he said no clean it and get out he comes back randomly to his house at 5am a few days later to someone sleeping in his downstairs room with dirty dishes and cigarette butts everywhere ends up it's this maid's addicted husband he had been using it as a flop house and drug den this guy escorted the husband out by gunpoint pants less the place was trashed downstairs but apparently perfectly clean still upstairs his tv was stolen but the husband brought it back and left it in the driveway so he didn't get charged with theft apparently there was little he could do about the free stay the husband took advantage off i worked in a call center that handles some of airbnb's customer service so one guest murdered two people in the host home and got arrested there another guest was from a culture that eats iguanas and barbecued up a seven-year-old girl's pet iguana to serve to the family as thanks for hosting him another guest filled a mug with human poop and left it in the host's microwave you really use all faith and humanity working in customer service call centers airbnb requires photo evidence for all host complaints and guess who is the first to see them the initial customer service agent who may only be on their first or second day taking calls and the iguana man was forced to pay for both a new barbecue for the family and a replacement iguana not my story but a friend of mine's he has an apartment in london an urban area with dense houses and population the apartment he hosted is this window facing main street which people tend to assume it's non-see-through but it's not so the guy who stayed in it decided to sit in front of that naked and had a few beers overlooking the great view he sat on a couch right in front of the see-through window to have his beers just like anyone would do he must have fallen asleep or something and everyone passing by the road just had to see this poor creature it was all on snapchat at the time i recall creepy guy ordering young prostitutes one came by knocked on the front door at like 11 at night not the correct entrance after i sent her the correct way they began to argue loud enough for me to hear upstairs about their sugar daddy arrangement and how he couldn't trust her for whatever reason and asked her to leave i guess 30 minutes later another prostitute knocks on my front door one star's all around grows my partner looks after an airbnb for his friend self-catering only the house is an 1800s big country house it is used primarily for large get-togethers and parties most guests are great and clean up well to get their deposit back a group stayed and left the place pretty messy but we couldn't figure out what the smell was turns out they left a full pig in a rubbish bag under the kitchen table they tried to cook a pig on a spit and basically left its mainly raw corpse under the table every toilet was destroyed too must have eaten the semi-charred meat on the outside of the pig when drinking without realizing that it was raw sorry gordon ramsay i've never hosted but i stayed one night at this place in san bruno near san francisco international airport cheap little shared place just to be close to the airport for an early ass flight the guy was extremely particular about cleanliness and i get it i do but for someone who makes you take your shoes off at the door he should really consider cleaning under the gundam b-day once in a while i had never used one before didn't know how to and was way too tired to try to figure it out but i'm glad i didn't anyway with everything looking so immaculately clean the smell of stale piss and [ __ ] coming from the toilet really threw me for a loop you know that smell it's like stale poop i bent over and looked at the underside of whatever part of the b-day was within the rim of the toilet and yep apparently never cleaned i really wanted to leave a bad review because of that but we arrived like an hour late and didn't give any warning and felt bad about that so i didn't not my house per se but my mother's house we had recently started when this happened so it was kind of surprising and also some backstory is necessary our house had two floors one with a kitchen and office and one with the bedrooms we had recently redone the second floor to make it more suitable to the guests but especially in the master which we had a steam shower installed a bath and a bidet on the toilet anyways back to the story the people called and seemed relatively normal people from texas or kansas or somewhere but they kept calling us with complaints so me and my brother had to go over and do a ton of random stuff for them which was annoying but had happened a few times with our first few guests so we thought nothing of it even though some requests were pretty idiotic such as asking how to open the fridge yes opening a fridge anyways after the last stupid question or complaint a few days passed and they left early because their uncle or some family member came down with something i can't remember what usually we had a maid come to clean the house but she called saying the house was to nasty for me to clean so me and my brother go out to the house to see what the fuss was all about downstairs seemed fine about as messy as the other guests leave it but the problem however was upstairs we walked my old bedroom and it was completely trashed like dressers on the ground pillows and blankets everywhere and for some reason a tiny doll which appeared to have had the closed door off of so we were annoyed and cleaned it up but then i walked into the bathroom and there was i kid you not two piles of poop human feces next to the toilet who just poops on the floor by the toilet and we went over to the master bedroom which was surprisingly clean except for the bathroom which had towels everywhere and another pile of poop by the toilet and one inside the damn steam shower our precious steam shower which was the best shower i had ever used by the way this has been my worst experience with a guest we didn't return their damage deposit oh also the poops were from an adult not a baby or child my mother owns a cleaning business which services four airbnbs usually weekly she also helps the owner out with other small matters just last week a woman called and complained there was blood on the kitchen bench she demanded compensation or a free stay my mom offered to go check out what was going on and on arrival found a man with blood trickling from his mouth she then found a couple of teeth in the bin from some people also multiple times the bnbs have been used as porn sets [Music] i wasn't directly renting my place but i was a translator for a dude who rented like 30 apartments in mexico city the everyday problem came from americans who look to get free nights and discounts for the most ridiculous reasons we had a chinese grandma burn down the apartment because she left the dryer on for hours while she took her dog for a walk but by far the most disgusting experience came from a chinese guy in his early 20s he rented the apartment for three nights a few hours later after his check-in he sent a photo of a bed completely covered in cash no context and no message then he sent a photo of him getting a black mercedes-benz suv out of the polonco concessionary squatting next to it with him dangling the keys the next photo is him squatting in the hood of the suv he left without returning the keys to the dorm and so a locksmith had to tear down the door the place was a mess food rotting in the little lounge the bin was completely empty and the floor and furniture had trash all over them snacks bottles plastic bags etc then the room again it was all littered up condoms and plastic bags lying on the floor the bed had a huge stain of poop then the bed sheet was rolled up and inside there was a trunk of poop the towels had poop marks of his butt and the toilet paper was left untouched and he made all of this by himself in three days he happily paid all the extra charges and later that year he rented the place again that last time he even did his bed and left a basket with gifts so i guess he had it best some conscience left in his brains i've been pretty lucky i have had some really awesome guests i ran a live in where i rented my second bedroom and i ran my house i was hoping to be able to pay for i will say this canadians are not nearly as nice and seemly as they are made out on tv i've found them to be very demanding and hard to please willing to treat you like a nephew servant over anything respectable but i'm an american so i don't care just give me your money so this old canadian couple stays with me for a few days the first night he comes to my apartment very late without texting i always wait you know unless we have word comes in bitching about the parking at my huge apartment complexes in the middle of the number one vacation destination on the planet the parking lot is massive like multiple football fields behind one row of buildings massive can't miss it so i tell him that if you turn right there is an unbelievable parking lot right behind there point to the row we laugh go to bed the next night at about 2am he and his wife come home drinking buzzy hot loudly talking through my bedroom door they had to park in handicap parking because i couldn't provide parking if they got towed i am going to pay for it or they are going to give me a one-star review and get airbnb involved i debated if i was going to have to get in a fight or shoot someone i was like no then i said just give me your keys i told you there was a huge parking lot across the row behind those buildings massive parking lot anyway i moved his car at 2 am sent him away in m he gave me a one star i used to own several hostels in mexico during the low season we would create pages for our private rooms american art student moves in nobody ever sees her she often appears around 1am to eat noodles and watch spongebob with the night porter fast forward five months and she decides to live at the hostel the city is doing really bad visitor numbers due to the cartel cutting a bunch of heads off and leaving them in the city center freeway so i get a call one day the manager of the hostel explains the guest won't move her room we were redecorating and had mentioned previously we would be asking to temporarily move room no objections from her happy vibes this turns into a two-day thing manager calls me she explains the guest won't move to another room i explain the decorators need to work around it till she moves the room day four the manager asks her to leave the room she declines and then the manager explains we would have to call police police arrive cop was an awful man and complained the room smelled of crack as the force the door opened the furniture she stacked up against the door fell down we could hear it crashing down in the room they call in the fire department who cut the bars and on the window she had been pregnant all along and was receiving drugs from her boyfriend daily he would deliver them to her window in the room she had given birth to a baby and then pushed the baby under the bed she also had four fans on the floor on full power which dried up all the blood on the floor in the birth a side draw that had been stacked on top of the furniture against the door had fallen directly on her head pulling part of her face off she survived with an awful scar on the side of her face but she was completely destroyed by drug use this story was a long time ago i'd like to preface this by saying that we generally have good reviews and kind guests who don't have any problems agreeing to our three rules close the gate try not to come upstairs before 10am and after 8pm and notify us if you are coming upstairs these two girls stayed in our basement seemed like your typical uni students they told us about their yoga retreat and made jokes upon arriving before we showed them how to close unlock the gate so our dogs were safe they said they understood closed and opened the gate a few times properly and went downstairs the next morning my mother let our dogs outside not thinking much of it about 30 minutes go by and the dogs haven't asked to come back and yet so she goes to check on them and they aren't in our yard she goes to check the gate it's wide open one of our dogs is super easy to catch when he gets out because he immediately goes to the front porch and waits for my mom to let him in our other dog is a whole different story she is a rescue with severe trauma and no trust in strangers she will run like a maniac until she sees either me or my mom which makes her very difficult to catch we eventually got both dogs inside and told the guests to close the gate when they got back next morning i let them out for a second but then i know that i'll just be safe and check the gate it is once again open our rescue dog has already bolted out the gate and down the street she hadn't gotten far so i just went through the ally to get in front of her and got her back inside i was a little pissed at this point i closed the gate and left a note on it that read please close gate with simple instructions on how to close in case they had forgotten it's around 9 00 pm when they get back i wasn't exactly going to sleep yet but i was turning of the downstairs lights and getting water when they come upstairs an hour after they are not supposed to yelling about how i need to get my head out of my butt it is now two adults screaming at a teenager because they couldn't follow one of the three rules we have i'm more than a little pissed now but i try to remain calm and explain that we have to keep our dogs safe they calm down after a while agree to close the gate and go downstairs the next morning i come downstairs around six in the morning to find the girls had left the gate wide open and tore up my note i was mad but i just closed the gate and let the dogs out it was the day they were going to leave anyway so i figured that i just put up with them until they left most of that day was actually normal and uneventful they just left until i went downstairs to clean up they had totally destroyed the place took all the dishes off the shelf and put them on the floor took all of the books out of the bookcase poured coffee on the counter and turned furniture upside down they even hid the remotes it took me forever to clean and i'm still salty about it to this day i'd like to add my favorite guest story to valence this out a bit basically the guests had a kid seven to eight said kid comes upstairs at about 3am to be greeted by me sitting on the kitchen floor eating pizza rolls her mom came to get her and apologized profusely they were super nice and just went back downstairs for the night i'm embarrassed to say that i was not the host in this story me and my mate went out on a pub crawl in prague during our gap year i don't enjoy clubbing and the last venue on the crawl was a club so i cut slightly earlier than my mate around 1am i got back into our apartment and went to bed i was woken up by my friend at 4am and the entire kitchen was flooded not even exaggerating there was like an inch of water lining the floor spewing rapidly out of a broken overhead pipe i asked him what the hell happened and he claimed he had woken up standing in it being unfamiliar with the house i didn't know where the choke point in the pipe was to cut it off we called the guy who owned the place which was painstakingly slow given the time we managed to get through to a family member who then contacted him he arrived about 15 minutes later in which time the water issue has become even worse we had sealed off the room using a heap of towels to minimize the water leaving the kitchen as if to tile floors while the rest of the house was hardwood but this made it accumulate to about ankle height the kitchen also had a sunken floor up until about six or seven we were using pots to clear the indoor swimming pool from what used to be the kitchen i didn't look like it had done a horrendous amount of damage once we were finished but i imagine the water seeped through the floor and into the walls causing all sorts of damage what makes it worse is that it was a third floor apartment my friend being the one who originally found it told the airbnb property owner that it was like that when he woke up but later told me that although he can't remember it he thinks what must have happened is he'd wandered in from the club blackout drunk and tried to do a pull-up on the pipe that said though he wasn't wet when he woke me so who knows what happened i felt really bad for the host my wife and i were hosts for about a year to make ends meet we had just moved to a new town so she could attend grad school guests had full access to the second floor while we lived on the first met a lot of cool people and ended up getting super host status last guests we ever had were an older couple that had traveled a lot they seemed fine and we had a nice conversation and they seemed fine with the accommodations keep in mind up until this point we had never gotten less than five stars from dozens of guests later that night i was at my job bar attending busy evening and homeboy rolls up saying he needs to talk with me outside i hurry out trying to accommodate him and also get back to my busy shift he proceeds to lay into me at my place of work about how our space wasn't up to airbnb standards and they won't be staying there and some friends found them another place to stay that night i was confused but okay sure but i'll give you the full refund you're asking for he goes on his way we refund everything we had gotten from them airbnb did not refund the taxes and fees for their own terms and conditions i think his main complaint ended up being a spider web under the bed and that there wasn't ac upstairs mountain town on the east coast of us in the summer it was warm but there were fans and it wasn't unbearable i can understand why he'd want to stay somewhere else though anyways we think it's all behind us and my wife and i embark on a cross-country road trip a few days later to check out the country and go see her family on the west coast first day the guy starts blowing us up through airbnb messaging saying he didn't get all his money back and to send him the rest we had returned all the money we got we told him to take up the rest with airbnb and that we couldn't help him he was flipping out saying we were bad at business and there were other avenues to get him his money back like venmo and some other crazy stuff to the point we had to contact airbnb to take care of it so he would stop contacting us he basically wanted us to pay him for taking away our opportunity to make some money off other guests that weekend and for him to insult us and our home it was a crazy stressful situation at the beginning of a long trip and influenced us to find a roommate instead of continuing with airbnb hosting we also had a dude and his girlfriend who were probably in their late 40s get absolutely hammered they come back around midnight and she was throwing up in the yard while he laid on our living room floor with our dog talking junk about his girlfriend and asking us for weed they were all right but left about 40 empty cans up in the room for
