AGDQ 2017: SotN Richter Mode All Bosses (by MechaRichter)

and with that I believe we are ready for Castlevania soten everybody please give a round of applause for mecharichter and his couch good luck guys I'm pumped Richter's pumped we're all pumped all right we're ready to go I'll get right into this all right three two one go all right I won't have a whole lot of opportunity to talk during this run because it's a pretty stressful run throughout the entire thing so Satori over here we'll be doing most of the talking for me [Music] yeah Richter is a very technical character there are a lot of complicated inputs you have to put in and the game is rather stingy with something with some of the inputs well you'll see a lot of is err slashing which is a upthe and quarter-circle forward and there's a lot of funny nuances when you want to chain them in the air yeah the the game has problems recognising inputs a lot so if you just see me like randomly doing the whip and doesn't look like it was intentional it probably wasn't so hopefully you won't see that too much all right this is a as we know this is the all bosses category so first we go to slaughter and guy pond and good backup strat there go grab this health here it actually doesn't cost any time because like it's a clock room anytime before two minutes it's going to be close it on it opens and closes every other minute so long as I get there before two minutes I'll be all right I grab the holy water there the the most Opie weapon in this game for Richter for sure yeah hydro stores really good let it rot inside nice I think I'm gonna pick up extra health pickups along the way because they do increase your max HP just by a little bit but it could be just enough to you know save me some very scary situations yeah otherwise Richter's defense is next to none yeah yeah he is literally a glass cannon like he's really really strong but he's also really weak all right we're coming up on ol rocks and this will be the first opportunity you see to get the end he's going to do a glitch with hydro storm where you can kind of overlap the damage of hydro storm in a regular holy water by throwing a holy water at the proper time and see if he gets it he did get it at the first forum he has two forms the second one seems a lot more time if I actually get it are both on my soul this is his way of knocking on the door oops yeah sidekick is really weird so sometimes I'll do a slide kick too early just uh just down and jump and like to constantly do the slide and the slide kick is the same exact thing but you do it faster all right coming up in the chapel here there's going to be a couple very narrow hallways and he's going to try to air slash through them without touching the ground which is very very difficult because after you air slash there's a brief time where you can't input anything or the game won't accept any inputs so in order to so it's very difficult to keep air slashing without landing and not losing too much height all right got that ones other one nice yep uh-oh I'm going to grab this one another customer trying to grab it one thing with air slashing that does help is you do have a brief amount of time where you can actually jump out of an air slash so you can gain a little bit of extra height yeah you can buffer like almost everything in this game so I'm actually doing the air slash input and then a jump and like finishing with the TAC it's uh it's really cool that it actually works like that and I don't know if if you notice or not but on M sometimes I'll do like a backflip like out of a slide kick into an air slash that's actually the timing is pretty precise that one - that's nice Carson had killed I like this one because the holy water actually carries over in the next room it destroys all scandals all right oh nice starter oh there's something else you can do on the gears like as you're falling down if I Richter has this whip out and he lands his like arm becomes dislocated all right I'm keeping the holy water um it's actually a little bit faster to get the dagger but I use that last time so just switching it up a little bit and it's it's actually much safer to keep the holy water because some of the boss battles are pretty scary otherwise I'm really tempted to do a thing on this boss so this boss battle um once you get so far into the room a stack of books like block you in but you can actually like if you get far enough into the room you can like trigger the boss battle and the plate the books will fall but you can actually get past them and like fight him outside the room but when I did that in practice I missed and lesser demon showed me what was up and it killed me so yeah and it's not it's not even faster because he's still got a you got to wait for him to do like this one attack well it's not really tacky summons summons other monsters and while he's doing that he's invincible so you have to wait for him to finish doing that so yeah it's not faster at all there's a random psychic girls talking apart all right we're coming up to the hardest boss in the game I'm actually really bad at doing this so I'm gonna have Satori would do it for me all right I hope I could do it good luck buddy how you play this game again uh I just push a button yeah right bones yeah I did it okay thank you yeah so um the doppelgangers a eyes are very abusive oh yeah so all he did was just hold why you can like buffer anything basically all right I just have to crap I have to do like a very specific model slides otherwise I can screw this up double crit yeah yeah there we go that's what we wanted yeah so screwed it up a little bit it's not a big deal all right so I gotta open the door to get sit on the ground caverns like basically I go anywhere I want but you still have to open this up and coming up in the next flight there's a really interesting trick you can do on us boss so basically what I'm going to do is like wait to a certain point before I attack the boss and it's very important I do that otherwise I can get stuck in softlock also Cilla rim it's misspelled okay my Tia that should be it alright and that door kind of doesn't spawn properly so it just pushes you into the room below so it's just a quicker escape yeah so the reason why I had to wait is the when the water is rising if it's oh oh it's not playing today alright something real something really bad can happen with tell it's if you uh I don't know what causes it if you like leave them a life they get angry and their hitbox is go really really far off the screen anyway so de sila fight I have to let the water rise and then fall back down if I don't do that there's a door when I get back in bounce that's permanently closed and I can't get out come on told no stake you stay put please please stay put ah tells a scary man I have like eight highlights of them like doing bad things with their hip boxes and killing me [Applause] all right so I missed one that's still really good yeah just one more I can do Oh actually two more our next few bosses you're not supposed to be able to slide off the platforms but certain pixels you can and the very edge you can - this is one of the scariest areas in the game because any screw-ups can put you in a bad spot the discus Lord for one is a he's a champ yeah here's grandpa Luna goodbye grandpa Luna okay like I said holy water is a little broken in this just a little bit okay good there's one attack he can do right there that will fail hit me in his fire does a lot damage that happens sometimes you clip in a wall yeah sometimes you'll see me just like err slashing up against the wall or something or doing really weird movements that's just a like setup the the rooms in a very precise way sometimes it's to give me through rooms without hitting enemies because you are invincible during the air slash but as soon as you are done with that you are not so like in between chains you are vulnerable all right we're about about to enter the second castle here when I go into the second castle from like to make up for you know Richter not being able to level up or get strong or anything they just give them like double attack all right I grabbed like a thirty hearts there you didn't see because I just sit through it all right like I said you can buffer input so you can also buffer an uppercut through this transition wild mouse say another Richter runner he actually figured that out so shown us to him alright I'm activating the other warp I didn't mention it earlier but that's just to come back later alright and this will be the last boss fight I use holy water on good job nice there you got that one too that saves one second yeah actually my grab this next few areas are actually very very scary so oh okay that's alright I'd rather get hit by that than bomb Knights true all right there goes holy water we will not be seeing it again plus I accidentally grabbed it which is possible yeah and verdict as well gets super scary yeah I was hoping I could avoid this but I am actually going to save because the next area if I screw it up I it's very very likely I will die well with the help I got right now anything in this particular area will kill me and one of the enemies a random like where they jump it so I can be in a bad spot if I screw something up those stone skulls I might have enough max HP's I survive one hit but that's about it they they pack a punch this exacting is deceptively difficult yeah let's creature you tried man good try buddy good job buddy [Applause] this is not sure I'll pick up I'm gonna grab here Oh thing sometimes you like will clip on the ceiling there and just lose all your momentum like like your foot gets caught one pixel in the ceiling or something it's really weird all right we're going to come up soon to one of the actually heart boss fights in this game probably the only only one that's really scary so I will need to concentrate for that yeah doppelganger 40 you can't manipulate his AI a bit much like doppelganger 10 but he has a lot more tricks so if you if you're a little off he can really bring the paint on you [Music] nice job scare the wing smash will instantly kill me yes yeah it's very very important that I don't screw that bossfight up because as you saw like he he has a lot of defense defensive attacks and a fight like oh yeah watch these hitboxes same thing just like totes yeah hitboxes are kind of funky in that area only in that particular room yeah only on this version - oh whoops though it doesn't happen on a Playstation version or the other ones yeah the places where it has a lot of unique well exclusive glitches and I think part of that is because at the time when this came out on xbox arcade this is like one of the first first games to come on on XBLA um Microsoft didn't allow any games to be above 100 megabytes and this is like I don't know like 500 or some 600 megabytes so they had to cut a lot of stuff a lot of sound bytes and other graphical things the cutscenes completely gone okay I'm gonna take the safe The Witches do a lot of damage my favorite room the bowling room [Music] yeah that enemy in particular had a sound byte change actually sounded much different that was like one of the things to cut all right we're gonna have to fight our good buddy galamoth elos the rock out gonna rock out so it's actually slower to do this because if you notice I get a couple ones in there his weak point is his head so when he's rocking back and forth sometimes it's hitting his shoulders that goes for one more thank ya so ideally you actually wanted to be facing the other way because he'll randomly do this attack where he like try to shoot lightning bolts at you and you're like standing in this hitbox so you get a lot more hits on his head [Music] thanks a very important I do these rooms right cuz the frozen half even when I kill them the little icicle at surrounding him can help hit me I'm gonna reset this room yeah Fersen halves are very scary if they get if they get a they get a move off yeah it does a lot of damage okay so I'm about to work back to the reverse keep and then to the go right Chapel yeah the names of some of these areas are actually named incorrectly for example like Al Roxas lair and the reverse castle is death wings dead yeah death wings lair but I mean he's not there so it's really weird they did that I hope I'm in the right spot tombstones are scary so are these guys I probably okay but I'm not chancing it I'll just save ya sometimes when you're sliding through these rooms you shouldn't like it hit by anything but on very rare occasions as I call it it because certain moment they I can slide into the bloom politic damage and if that happens well what's the same we don't want to see that yeah the hitbox on Richter slide is really weird like it has like just the end of his feet are actually what hits the enemies the rest of it or a part of it is what can damage Richter so when I'm like in a particular spot during the slide I can get hit and that's not good the health is gone all right they're supposed to be health pick up there it just doesn't spawn sometimes yes I have no idea why I think it's this bright overload or something but hopefully be there on the way back I'll blink it flew on that alright another difficult boss fight [Music] I also has a really really long death animation it's like significantly longer in a Saturn version because he adds like some other animation to it and it lags like crazy oops hey so it's back yes welcome back old friend that imp room is super scary I was about to say this is the scariest room in the game but that one is also scary yeah this one these minotaurs iPad yeah I panicked really hard I'm saving here I'm not even taking a chance yeah like half with you there's no I was like I don't know what to do yeah the D axis on a Minotaur is do a significant amount of damage I'll probably do the feigns trick on the way back since I saved right there but it's very very very easy to screw up also this plus fights a little random grant can throw daggers down at you and if he throws down more than two then you're in trouble okay well I missed it but I didn't die so I was supposed to happen as I hear / - room you can do that on the way there - but I panicked so I didn't want to do it I'm gonna reset this room this important I don't mess this up either okay yeah I can get sniped by the archers and the arrows again do a lot of damage [Applause] alright this boss fights pretty cool I like doing this it's actually a fast way to kill - so like you get like all right underneath his feet and then uh you do the item crash immediately and that's he gets hurt almost close to the end but yeah the else what was the last regular boss now it's just shaft left yeah and in case anybody's wondering the reason why I don't fight um succubus or Minotaur and werewolf they actually uh nope yeah boss is like he made it boss that room succubus and death don't don't show up because they're yeah cutscene bosses for Alucard normally yeah shaft is the only exception that room Guardians will kill me one hit this you might notice a trend here everything kills me in one hit or it's very very close to it alright instead of waiting for those slabs dope and just drop to the drop to the room below come back up there instantly open that's very very slightly faster even like when they're open there's still there's still collision detection there till it's like like halfway open or something and thank all times coming up very very soon time that's pretty good oh yeah what's the background here it's uh yeah I did bad things to the castle I said thank you very much out for watching I was i relief to get through that at one piece for the most part with like story over here for compensate and then stock folder over here for hanging out moral support he's uh he's done some great things to the game as well very very great things well in short he basically found a way to beat the game and well with Elkhart in about five minutes it requires some arbitrary code execution where you go into the menu or you I don't remember exactly I do it there's a it's a very very complicated process but he figured it out so that's it thank you everybody [Music]
