[Music] [Music] the nsx needs no introduction if you've ever played gran turismo forza or any number of other video games you know this car the nsx has a storied history going back to at least 1984. that's when chief designer masahita nakano and chief engineer shiguru uehara put their heads together to create this car but the big story was that this car was co-developed by none other than formula one legend ayrton senna the name nsx is short for new sports car experimental and it was the first mass-produced all-aluminum bodied car in the world and the interior was inspired by the cockpit of an f-16 fighter jet designated in a1 the first nsx was sold as a 1990 model and featured the 3-liter all-aluminum c30a engine this engine made about 270 horsepower the upgraded na2 came along in 1997 and had a slightly bigger 3.2 liter engine dubbed the c32b which made 290 horsepower all naturally aspirated of course while the na1 nsxr was substantially lighter coming in around 2700 pounds but only after ditching the air conditioning the spare tire sound deadening power steering traction control and some of the electrical equipment only 483 were made in production ended of that model in 1995. then there was also a type s that weighed in a little bit more around 2 900 pounds which added back some of the accessories and the luxuries it was kind of splitting the difference between the base and the nsxr there were also other variants including the 1997 type s0 which was for japan only and the 1999 alex inardi edition in the usa to name a couple now i always like these cars and actually almost bought one but because of the complexity of adding power adders i chose the mark iv super instead and history was made so i haven't driven one of these in years so my friend daryl allison offered to loan me his freshly built nsx for the weekend so that's where we're going right now and we're gonna go drive the car get back at you soon confession i hate cleaning my own cars that's why i love adam's polishes whatever you want to clean polish or shine adams has a specific product just for that even for matte finishes since 2000 adams polishes has been offering premium car care products atoms made with pride and passion in the usa [Music] yeah so we got craig here i love this r35 i love this car hold on man sounds awesome good to see you good seeing you going on got a lot of treats in the parking lot here nice and warm day some would like that uh s chassis yeah okay that's actually b-sides car uh b-side fabrication they they're doing all the the ken merry work kind of on our ken murray but yeah that's his little drift car what do you got going on today all right so we're going to get that nsx we're going to hand over the keys and and you're going to go out and play and enjoy this car as much as is it on pump gas right now it's on pump we're running just 91 on it um you know this car this car is you know relatively stock uh it's a it's a stock motor with the exception of towed itbs it's a 99.99 it's got diese work uh injectors and um it's making about 300 of the wheels so it's not crazy fast we you know we had an option we could have done a full build on this car and and got into internals but that wasn't our intent our intent was to build something that was fun reliable ac works makes great noise when this thing goes into vtec the sound that comes out of the out of those trumpets is just sensational is it using the original model the 3-0 did you no it's actually a 3-2 yeah 99 they were all three twos uh it's a six speed but yeah so um you know it sits a little low and of course it's got spoon seats in a craig we did a lot of work to this car i talked about the downforce body kit which consists of pretty much the entire front clip the fenders the hood the bumper the side skirts the wing the rear bumper everyone was talking about how amazing their body kit is and it's a great body kit the problem is we spent nearly double the amount of money we paid for the kit and just labor to make it fit so it was a lot of work to make this car look like it these parts belonged on it the whole thing's aluminum for chrysler i know i know you know it's an aluminum car but you know right now it's running uh you know fiberglass front end parts it still retains the aluminum um quarter panels doors deck lid well that's the trick isn't it and we did something different too you know this was a kaiser silver it's still kaiser silver and when we when i bought this car it was bone stock right down to its original alloys you know 50 000 miles on the clock uh completely original stock car and we did a deviated uh painted roof to match the wing kind of like a a type r type deal you know um i put a little metal flake silver metal flake in the in the top paint get it in the sun it should stand out nice these mirrors are badass so those are spoon mirrors and i love these mirrors they have the blue glass which i love because it kind of matches the the spoon calipers in blue of course you know they're not electric so you lose the electric portion of the of the mirror but you know if it's only you driving it exactly yeah and we did something a little different so their original bumper it was different it it this line came all the way down and dipped around this nose and and we essentially remolded this tire this entire front bumper this is an interesting bumper it's a combination of the exposed headlight version front end and pop-up headlight front end so this is the the newer model mounted to the bottom with the top part you know reflective of the original pop-up headlight style i'm a huge fan of the pop-up headlights so um i wanted to uh i did you know people were saying i wanted to convert convert to the exposed headlights and of course it changed this hood actually drops down even farther and the headlight comes closer to the bump into the bumper i just i didn't want to do that i like that i'm on the fence myself whether or not i like to pop up headlights i remember the day that i thought pop headlights were the badass thing yeah but with the nsx you know the glass headlights i can definitely see the attraction to those well these are these are cool looking headlights so i don't know if you've seen this but when these pop up it's reminiscent of a 355 i mean this i love the headlights on this car they're just really good looking and uh very similar to what a ferrari 355 would look like you know i think if they had done it more like the 300 zx slash diablos where the headlight right was down here and it was you know just had glass over the top of it i wonder how that would have looked but could have been you know purists would look at it and say well that's the way it's supposed to be you know i know i had an nsx 92 nsx and it was you know phone stock and it was the the three liter five speed car it's just okay you know it made no noise it was relatively it was like driving a honda and it was n a and honda motors don't typically have a ton of torque and at that by that time i was looking at the good japanese cars that were like the 3000 gts and the fds and the supra i bounced back and forth i drove our buddies nsx i said well it's a fantastic car but no turbo yeah there's not even an option for a turbo so and i knew myself at that point saying i'm gonna whatever i'm gonna do i'm gonna put more boost in the car okay i knew that for a fact that whatever i was gonna be driving whatever boost it came with it they were gonna get a lot more yeah and so on nsx was just out for me so i never had the opportunity on one of those cars you know alex bought one a few years back that was supercharged and it was it was a great car it was i think it was a 2002 yellow car he he loved it i enjoyed driving it but this was kind of the i wanted to build one myself i like this silver color and like i said the noise this car makes is just sensational it's my neighbors but i have to creep in there in second gear well you know i don't think it'll be much different i don't rev it but yeah if you're going to rub it no i don't do that yeah it's got pride titanium exhaust it's got a pride downpipe and uh and the exhaust is just sensational we had to we had to work on the exhaust tips to fit properly inside the holes i'm just so so particular about this and and we i updated the tail lights i still have the original tail lights but these are the 2002 model tail lights so i went with the little newer style tail light yeah man so what's your plan you're just gonna what are you what are you doing for your channel you guys just so you know i've been following craig for for years and we've been we go way back way back uh way way back yeah so we we started and you know paul walker was a dear friend of mine and and you know a lot of people make claim to knowing paul and paul was i i had a lot of his cars in my in my warehouse at the time i remember walking in there i was like what the hell is going on here it was a mix half of them were his and half of them were mine and we built some cars together and we had a lot of fun we did a lot of track days and you went to a couple of those practices the video i got to send you that video i still have it's on my youtube to see i think i saw it recently someone someone forwarded it to me and i it just brought the red car yeah the red r34 so that i had an r34 gtt that i i turned into a gtr i welded quarters and put gtr i basically turned it into a into a gtr it had an rb 26 but it was rear-wheel drive just you guys know i'm a huge fan of gtrs but i'll take a gtt with an r34 body any day about 750 pounds lighter rear wheel drive a lot more fun on the track in my opinion that's the video little show yeah yeah we had a lot of fun that day you had your audi rs4 that was your camera car that was my camera i love that car perfect camera car 170 miles an hour on i-5 going up there with running of the bulls that year is that right yeah i got to tell you craig i you know i've been to the track i can't even count that was probably the most fun i've ever had that was a good day jason statham was there in the three jason i gave him driving lessons there you go in the 350z one of the the the dollar cars i got from nissan and uh alex who's not here right now he he learned to drift in that car that day and he went on to get his his d1 license and and became a pro and landmark day it was a fun day man and i'll never forget jason jason statham he uh you know paul invited him out uh to the track that day and a couple of guys were with him that i believed him with him i haven't seen tim tim was there yet he's a good good dude and don't forget tanner was there tanner and and matt james chen yeah james chen that was a huge deal richie from ae yeah richie was a big part of that that's that event they brought in the whole trailer we had a blast and we had so much fun if you get a chance check out i'll push up his old video um it was a great day at that track event i actually mentioned tim in the credits as well did you really tim's a good dude i i follow him on instagram and uh i love that guy he's just a super nice guy um but uh here we are now what fifth what uh yeah eleven years later something like that that was 2009. i think it was later than that i think it was two i think it was yeah maybe eight maybe eight or i can't remember okay i don't remember we're about the same age and i i'm i'm having a hard time remembering what i just had for breakfast i actually use that with my wife also so um so yeah we're gonna be doing japanese classic car reviews because there's a lot of people who who do great videos on youtube you know everybody's doing great videos on youtube but what i feel is missing is a like a person who's owned some of these cars and now going back and revisiting them you know with a kind of a fresh view and years of experience owning and driving different cars and just kind of give my impressions the car is totally reliable ac blows ice cold so use it all right put some miles on it enjoy it i'm glad someone's driving it yeah we'll drive it you guys uh you know craig and i ate last week as as i said and i don't know where we're picking up from but um we we go way back and craig's youtube channel is is craig lieberman is it is it just my name craig lieberman and daryl's channel is just driven just driven so we're we're due to youtube we're not we haven't done anything that craig's been doing this for a long time but we've been building cars for a long time and like i said we've known each other forever um we're just kind of new this youtube game so uh for any of you guys interested give us a follow we're our plan is to just keep building uh fun stuff and we'll be doing collabs from now yeah so remember the 240z we talked about so we're gonna do that car together and i think we're gonna have a really good time doing what color would choice would yours be i mean this is a green car with a tan interior partial to blue as you know well i can see why dark blue dark navy blue something remember that what was that wong gong uh the original series one 240z that was in japan that they made a cartoon i gotta go look at it i can't remember we're we're showing our age guys so can't remember what i had for dinner tuesday yeah me too so yeah uh i want to do a geno's kit so either way we'll we'll talk more about it but we're gonna do a fun build and and uh craig's gonna be a big part of that build and and we'll share that car so off you go man you have any courtesy cards from me because i know you used to be a sheriff back in the day i don't i don't you know damn it they're expired right i'll take my chances all right see you monday just say you know you know a cop it works every time maybe i know a cop maybe not [Music] you're good it'll rub a little don't worry you're good [Music] so when daryl and his team built this car they didn't want to add weight to the car they wanted to take weight out so that attention to detail is everywhere in this car not the least of which with these seats these are the spoon sport seats which are kevlar back they're basically just a kevlar shell and all dismount for and after there's no recline there's no heats there's no air conditioning and the seats all the kind of stuff you expect from a sports car the steering wheel is a spoon sports as well and it's got the short hub so basically you put the steering wheel up like that so you can get in the car more easily because of the high sills on the seat it's really hard to get into this car unless you're 5'5 but it's just clean on the inside nsx type r shift boot nsx type shift stock and the science of speed short shift adapter so rolling through the gears is a lot of fun which we'll see in a minute the wheels are te37s front and rear in the front they're 17x8 in the rear they're 18 by 10 and a half the front wheels have been reworked to accommodate the big brake kit so if it looks like a non-factory wheel a non-stock te37 you're right so this being a 1999 nsx it makes it an na2 there is the na1 and the na2 the na2s come with the c32 which is a 3.2 liter v6 engine making 290 horsepower whereas the c30 the factory engine for the na1 only made 270 horsepower but this one's been reworked a little bit it's got the total individual throttle bodies the deachworks 450cc injectors it's got pride stainless headers and a pride test pipe going into pry titanium catback exhaust system so it sounds amazing and we're going to take it for a drive this is where the nsx is at home [Music] jesus man [Music] [Applause] perfect just any kind of tip in the throttle response instantly there's no that's not there's no momentary lag like you might get with like triple carburetors or something of that sort but i can't remember the last time i drove an itv car actually another thing of it this is the kind of car that old white guys get pulled over in for because it's so loud and see fifth gear is in a different place every time i drive this car now on the r34 i got used to it in 15 minutes this i drove for an hour the other day still not used to it and what's funny about it with the vtec it's kind of like a turbo on a on a 2jz right the vtec doesn't happen on this car to about 6500 rpm it'd be like having a big old t88 on the 2jz you're waiting for the boost to come on right and when it does then you get it same thing with this [Music] [Applause] it's just so tight there's no body roll it's very hard to perceive any form of brake dive and the steering is just on point man so that's going to be it for this time everybody thanks so much for watching and please don't forget to subscribe see you next time [Music] so
