okay welcome back I'm Robert breaker and we're continuing our verse-by-verse Bible study through the book of Acts and believe it or not we are all most finished I can't believe it we are in chapter 27 there's only 28 chapters so we have this chapter and the next chapter and we will have finished our verse-by-verse Bible study through the book of Acts now when we started I'll be honest I thought man we'll never get done with this this is such a long book but it's encouraging to know that we have and some people are thinking the rapture could be this year would that be great it's wonderful that we're able to have gotten through this before the rapture now wouldn't hurt my feelings the rapture came before I posted chapter 27 or chapter 28 that would be great but if not um I hope this will be a blessing to you had one guy call me on the phone you say brother breaker would you please just finish the book of Acts and put it up just in case the rapture comes that we can see it before the rapture I say well hey Anna I'll do the best I can so I hope the rapture comes but if not we can be edified as we learn the Scriptures together studying them verse by verse so we're gonna start chapter 27 today now gone ahead and put up here a huge map because I want you to see what we're what we're seeing as we read through the Bible so this is probably one of the biggest maps that I've drawn but I want you to see where it is that Paul is traveling and I also want to do a quick recap so if you're taking notes you'll want to write this down recap okay now everything's going great in the book of Acts until about chapter 19 in the chapter 19 let's go back and this will be a recap to where we got to where we are so far because when we start chapter 27 we see Paul leaving from Caesarea to go to Rome and he's going on a ship as a prisoner remember he appealed unto Caesar and they said well if you appealed on the Caesar than the Caesar you will go but way back in Acts chapter 19 verse 21 we read this acts 19:21 after these things were ended Paul purposed in the spirit when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia Archaea however you want to pronounce that to go to Jerusalem saying after I've been there I'm also see Rome so the Apostle Paul is over here in Macedonia and other places Macedonia would be part of Greece and he says I want to go back to Jerusalem but I also want to go to Rome so I'm going to go to Rome but he says but first I'm gonna go over here to Jerusalem now we've already seen as we read through this book God told him no no don't go back to Jerusalem pulses not I'm gonna go now let's look at Acts chapter 20 and verse 16 this is what I've told you is the Apostle Paul disobeying God God told Paul go to Rome and Paul says but I want to go here and God says don't you've witnessed enough to the Jews go to the Gentiles but puls pulled this obeys God and we see the consequences and we see the repercussions of that but God can always take take something that we do that's wrong and if we repent we get our hearts right then he can turn it around for good and it will see in the book of Acts that's what God does he turns that wrong that Paul did by disobeying God and going to Jerusalem when he should have gone only to Rome God turns that around and uses it for good but in Acts chapter 20 and verse 16 for Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus because he would not spend time in Asia for he's hastened if it were possible for him to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost so there was some reason why Paul thought I want to be in Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost now did he make it we don't know but in Acts chapter 20 and verse 22 look what it says and now behold I go bound in the spirit of Jerusalem not knowing the things there that shall be following me there or not knowing the things that shall befall me there so the Apostle Paul in Acts chapter 20 if you remember and you read down here here's Paul giving his farewell address to these people and he's telling them look I'm gonna go down here and I don't know if I'm gonna even see you again so in Paul's mind Paul was thinking this is a suicide mission this is a suicide trip I'm going to go back to Jerusalem I'm going to witness to them one more time and I know they hate me so I wonder if they won't just kill me on the spot so whatever was been Paul's mind Paul's thought was yeah supposed to be over here in Rome but I want so bad to go there and God says no and we continually see God telling Paul no no Paul don't do that go to Acts chapter 21 and God is using other brothers and sisters in Christ saying no don't do it Paul Acts chapter 21 verse 4 acts 21 for and finding disciples we tarried there seven days who said to Paul through the spirit that he should not go up to Jerusalem said Paul don't go to Jerusalem Paul says now I'm gonna go to Jerusalem God says Paul how about going from Rome nah I'm gonna go over here so Paul is disobeying the Word of God now we're in Acts chapter 21 looking burst in acts 21 10 and as we chaired there many days there came down from Judea a certain prophet named agamous so there were prophets during the time of the early church and when he was come unto us verse 11 he took Paul's girdle and bound his own hands and feet and said as I said the Holy Ghost so shall the Jews of Jerusalem bind the man that owned this girdle and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles verse 12 and when they heard and when we heard these things both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem Paul don't disobey God he's given a chance after chance after chance Paul don't go to Jerusalem God wants you to go preach in Rome what does Paul say verse 13 then Paul answered what may need a weep and to break my heart for I'm ready to be bound all only but also to die for I'm ready not to be bound only but also to diet Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and what did they say verse 14 and when he would not be persuaded we see saying well but will the Lord be done so Paul it looks like in his mind is I don't care I want one more time to see my people and witness to them and I don't care if they kill me and God in heaven is going nope all my work for you is over here with the Gentiles what are you going back to the Jews for but Paul disobeys so you've got to them telling Paul not to now let's go to verse 17 verse 17 and when they were come to Jerusalem the Brethren received us gladly and what happens well Paul gets an opportunity to see Jane the the Lord's brother the the head of the church and all the elders in verse 18 verse 19 he talked to them about how God write among the Gentiles many things in his ministry talk all talked about how many people he got saved verse 20 he's talking about the Jews that are jealous of the lon verse 21 Paul says and they are informed of thee that thou teaches all the Jews which were among the Gentiles to forsake Moses saying that they ought not to circumcise their children either to walk after the customs what is it therefore the multitude must need to come together for they will hear that thou wert calm so they said Paul why are you telling everybody is not Moses well because that's what God gave to mow to Paul remember the message that God revealed to Paul is Acts chapter 13 in its salvation by grace through faith and not by the works of the law and so in acts 13 30 38 and 39 acts 1338 be known unto you there for me then brother and that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins Jesus Christ who is he he's the sacrificial blood atonement he's a sacrificial lamb so our forgiveness is through his sacrifice not through the sacrifices of the law verse 39 by him all that believe are justified from all things from which he could not be justified by the law of Moses so Paul is not telling him don't follow the Old Testament he's using the Old Testament to win people to the Lord what he's telling them is you are not saved by the works of the Old Testament you are not saved by the sacrifices of the Old Testament you were saved by the sacrifice of Jesus who is the Christ so verse 17 all the way down there to verse 40 you can read what Paul is saying to Israel and he gets caught and what happens well he gets caught in the temple verse 26 he took the next day to purifying himself and entered into the temple so Paul when he goes to Jerusalem it now we read earlier he was going there for the Peace of Pentecost now did he make it for the Peace of Pentecost I don't know kind of looks like something happened he didn't make it or maybe he did maybe it was a different feast I don't know but there was a certain feast of Israel that Paul wanted to attend why what was it that Paul was thinking in his mind that was so important that he had to disobey God to do it you know my personal thought was possibly Paul was thinking that on a certain feast day the rapture might be and so he was trying to be there on that freakin feast day and I'm thinking that maybe he was thinking he'd be raptured right there and all just be what happened to him and that would be vindication of his ministry battles that is my personal thought on the matter so Paul is going on there and in in Paul is captured in an axe chapter 22 verse 1 men brother and fathers hear ye my defence which I now make unto you so Paul begins to speak in the Hebrew tongue verse 2 in Paul's defense is verse 1 through 21 and he defends themselves and he gifts what what he's doing why he's doing it and what happens in verse 21 and he said unto me depart for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles and they gave him audience into this word and then lifted up their voices and said away with such a fellow from the earth but does not fit that he should live if they could they would have killed him right there because they say we don't like that this guy Paul is saying that Gentiles can now be safe you see the Jews don't like the Gentile so that was Paul's first offense acts 22 verse 1 1 through 21 Acts chapter 3 now what I'm - I'm reek acting what we've already been through I want you to see what we've already studied acts 23 verses 1 through 9 is Paul's second defense and again Paul has an opportunity to speak to the Jews again in acts 23 11 what happens in the night following the Lord stood by him and said be of good cheer Paul for us now has testified of me in Jerusalem so much they'll bear witness also that Rome so Paul disobeys God and goes to Jerusalem after saying and we already saw where he says yeah I want to go to Rome but I'm gonna go to Jerusalem first so he's disobeying God and he's probably going Lord are they gonna kill me he's probably stressed he's probably thinking man I wish I hadn't disobeyed God but God says look Paul you witnessed of me in Jerusalem I'm gonna get you to Rome don't worry about that you're gonna make it to Rome because that's where I wanted you to go to begin with but it's like Paul's going 2nd class he could have gone first class if he'd obeyed God in the first place but he disobey now he's gonna go second class or third class or how everyone said he's gonna go on a prisoner ship in Chains to roll so poles does his second offense now in acts 23 11 that's where God tells him to be of good cheer you're gonna witness also in Rome so he says Paul I'm gonna send you to Rome now I accept our 24 in the meantime he said in jail for a long time in Acts chapter 24 verses 1 through 27 Paul is before a man named Felix and he talks to this man named Felix I believe that so it's it is there Felix yes Paul is sent to Felix so acts 24 1 through 24 is Felix Acts chapter 25 1 through 12 Paul gets to come before again his accuser this time it's a man named Festus so he goes from the Jews to Felix to Festus acts 26 1 through 32 Paul's defense before man named Agrippa and he retells his testimony and so Paul gets to again go before another guy so before the Jews they reject before Felix he rejects before Festus he rejects before her gripa he rejects now he's going to end up in Rome before Caesar and Caesars gonna reject the message but Levi says in verse 23 acts 26 23 X 26 23 that Christ should suffer and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead and should show unto the people in to the Gentiles sounds like the gospel the death burial resurrection for spent these 15 months or four verse 24 and that's the--that's fake French self Festus said with a loud voice Paul thou art besides thyself much learning death make the man fastest and Gentile he hears the word Gentile he goes now you're crazy because he knew the Jews had nothing to do with the Gentiles they didn't want to have any fellowship so just as the Jews cut Paul off of the word Gentile so does this guy named Festus he goes Paul shut up shut up ie Gentile like like like your God wants the Gentiles say don't you know that we we pagans have our home gods that's probably what I was thinking I'm not sure but in Acts chapter 26 verse 17 and 18 is the evangelistic message of Paul we have a definition of Paul's ministry and the many things let's go ahead read that acts 26 verse 17 well this is Jesus talking to Paul and he tells him what his ministry will be number 17 says delivering me from the people and from the Gentiles unto whom now I send thee so God says Paul I'm going to send you to the Gentiles why verse 18 to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to life what is repentance attorney from one thing to another and it says and from the power of Satan unto God that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me the message of Paul is that you received the forgiveness of sins by faith faith in what faith in the suffering of Christ faith in his blood forgiveness through the blood of Christ justified through his blood so Paul's message is a twofold message and I've touched this before how that when Paul came Paul began preaching what the early church preached the who message and that's what the early book of Acts is all about is who Jesus is but Paul's message is more about what Jesus did because Paul is preaching the message of justification and we looked at that in acts 13 38 39 he's preaching justified first time the word justified shows up in the New Testament it's out of mount the Paul and what is Paul tells us in the book of Romans how are we justified by his blood so when Paul is preaching faith faith in the blood what is he preaching is preaching the message of Romans 3:25 whom God is set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood so every time we see Paul talking about faith we know what the faith should be in the face should be in the blood sacrifice of Christ because in all of his other epistles he's talking about you're justified by the blood it's the blood that saves and we went through at Hebrews the book of Hebrews and saw how he's showing in the book of Hebrews the first what was it seven eight chapters who Jesus is and then the last part of the book of Hebrews was all about what Jesus did so he's preaching that message right so Paul now appeals to Caesar acts 25 12 next 25 12 then fastest when he hit confirmed with the council answered hostile paled on the Caesar on the Caesar thou shalt go so fast it says all right you pill the Caesar you go to seizure acts 25 25 but when I found that he had done nothing worthy of death and that he himself impaled to Augustus I have determined to sent him so under Caesar acts 26 32 what does it say there then set Agrippa into Festus this man might have been set at Liberty if he not appealed unto Caesar so what we're gonna see now as we start in chapter 27 is him going to Caesar now he's down here in Caesarea right here and he's going to Rome because Rome is where Caesar was so he had to go see Caesar Caesars Nero that was the king there was a seizure at this time so he's going to go have to make a show before the seizure of Rome the head the one world government ruler if you will the dictator I guess they called him a Caesar at that time we might call someone like that a president but he has to stand before the ruler of the known world of the civilized world I guess would be a better way to say it and appeal his case and that's what he does so now we come to Acts chapter 27 and here's what's happening Paul is about to get on a ship to go to Rome now when I read about this I immediately think of the prophet Jonah and I want you to think about that too because it reminds me of Jonah remember Jonah God told Jonah go to Nineveh and Nineveh he says I don't want to go where you said and he ran away from God and God had to put him through some stuff one of which was a storm on a ship in order to get him to want to serve God and go where he was told to go well Paul he's over here some place in Asia and he should have gone to Rome but he says I don't want to I want to go so Paul was like repeating the error of Jonah almost so that's an interesting thing runs from God God has to get him right and get him back to where he should be and eventually Paul doesn't up in Rome where he should be so Acts chapter 27 verse 1 and when it was determined that we should sail into Italy they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius a century as' a Centurion Gustus is banned so Paul is gonna leave where he is and go to Italy Rome is in Italy I probably put a little bit too high should be probably a little bit lower here but for the sake of understanding that's good enough okay go look at a map yourself to find out where it's really is I'm not the best map maker in the world and I apologize for that so they put him on a ship and there's a man that's gonna stay with him whose name is Julius so Julius is a guy who is a Roman who is now going to be with Paul while they're traveling and what this is this is a prisoner ship this ship will be full of prisoners that are going to Rome to be tried so Paul is around a bunch of prisoners but that's nothing new to Paul because Paul's been in jail off quite a few times for preaching the gospel of Christ so Julius is Centurion so Paul's on a prison ship first you and entering into a ship of addre might iam we launched now where is after my trium I looked up out of my trium and it's somewhere up in this area in Asia so this must have been where the ship was built and I guess I can write that up there a dream I dream it's a weird name ad ad all right and RAM and RAM medium I dread meet him okay make sure I spelled that right so the ship was built here and so it's traveling all over the place going back and forth on from Caesarea to other places so entering of the ship a veteran a Dirar a dram item we launched meaning to sail by the coast of Asia one Aristarchus a Macedonian of Thessalonica being with us now eros Tychus Aristarchus was a man who it appears Paul led to the Lord and he is mentioned in other places in Acts 1929 in acts 20 verse 4 so after 1929 we see him mentioned again acts 1929 and the whole city was filled with confusion and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus men of Macedonia pulse campaigns and trial they rushed with one Accord into the theater now verse 4 of chapter 20 acts 20 and verse 4 and they accompany them into Asia some pitcher of Berea and of the Thessalonica solonian Czarist arcus Trier starkest was a Greek from Thessalonica which is somewhere around this area in Greece and so he's there about now look over in Colossians chapter 4 he's mentioned again Colossians chapter 4 and verse 10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner saluteth you and Marcus sister son - Barnabas touching whom you received Commandments if if you come unto me receive him so Aristarchus Aristarchus are a star yes our star kiss is with Paul but also don't forget Luke is with Paul also because Luke is the author of the book of Acts but Aristarchus is called a prisoner a fellow prisoner also he's found in Philemon Philemon and look at verse 24 so I don't know how our star kiss became a prisoner but he seems it appears to be a prisoner as well Marcus Aristarchus demas Lucas my fellow laborers and so Aristarchus is is either a prisoner with paul or they allow him to travel with paul but at one time he and Paul were in jail together so is he in bonds now on the way to jail or do they just allowing Paul to travel with him I don't know so Paul is heading out and it says meaning to sail by the coast of Asia one Aristarchus of macedonia Nafissatou micah being with us now verse three of chapter 27 the next day we touch that Sidon Sidon and julius courteously entreated paul and gave him liberty to go into his friends to refresh himself now find that interesting people always talk about old the King James Bible is so archaic we can't understand yeah you never joined the Navy my sister was in the Navy when you're on a ship in the Navy and they let you have a pass off that's called Liberty so they set them at Liberty you know you you're in the Navy you understand that word that's not an archaic word so they gave him so they gave him Liberty to go to his friends now where did they go okay so they left Caesarea and I wanted to use a red marker here they left Caesarea and then they travel to Sian Sidon now again the Bible is so much more than just a prophetic book it is a historical book leaving from Caesarea and making it to Sidon you could do that in one day according to the historical record now I don't know why we need to know that but that's quite interesting well if I was a millionaire I'd I'd fly over to Jerusalem and buy a boat and find old Caesarea and I just sail from one to another just see how long it would take he said he made it in one day but it wasn't half a day journey or what the next day did they leave at night I mean I just like to know how long it takes in a boat I think that'd be interesting so they went over there to sighted it Ben in verse 4 and when we had launched from thence we sailed under Cyprus because the winds were contrary now I find this interesting I looked at the Bible maps and on the internet and they have Paul going above Cyprus but the King James Bible says we sailed under Cyprus now you look at a map that's over that's under why did they put him going this way when the Bible says he went this way you've got to be careful with Bible maps I don't know who puts out these maps in the Bible but these scholars they don't know what they're doing one of the things they did wrong was in the end of your Bible a lot of times you'll have the Exodus when the children Israel left and they have them going across the Red Sea well the Red Sea kind of looks like this it has these two little things sticking out and there's the Gulf of Aqaba and they have found scientifically the chariot wheels and things like that in the Gulf of Aqaba but that's still part of the Red Sea and so historically the evidence points to them crossing the Gulf of Aquabot but whoever makes the maps well they think they went across the sea of reeds or something so you got to watch out many times the maps that you have in the back of your Bible are not put in there by Bible believers so a lot of times they're put in there by scholars that don't believe the Bible but they are good to have the maps just don't just don't always follow make sure you read your Bible to see if it's true the way they put the lines so I'm looking at the internet and I'm looking at Bibles and they have Paul going deciding they're going above Cyprus when the Bible says we've sailed under Cyprus I'm just going to go by what the King James Bible says so we sailed under Cyprus because the winds were contrary and when we had sailed over the Sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia we came to Myra a city of Lyceum okay so where did they end up they ended up over here in Myra and it would make sense that they would have come under kind of would have been out of the way to go up and around but they want you to believe that went up and around I don't know I say they went that way because the King James says under so I'm gonna follow it King James remember the King James inspired not these men that claim to be scholars so they go that way and then in verse 5 it says they went to Myra a city of Lyceum well I looked up on the map and here's my grits on the coast of Asia and they are the Centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing it to Italy and he put us there in all right now this is Alexandria down here somewhere down here in Egypt and I forgot to look up the exact location here's the Nile River Delta somewhere down here is Alexandria Egypt so you have a connection in your King James Bible from Alexandria to Rome now why is that interesting that Alexandria is connected with Rome because there's two lines of Bible texts we have Jerusalem to Antioch is one line of Bible text this is where the Texas Receptus comes from and this is where the Hebrew Masoretic text comes from and this is where the King James Bible comes from but all new versions of the Bible they come from the Alexandrian text which are also called the city Atticus which is what down here someplace Mount Sinai and the the Vaticanus text so this is your corrupt line of Bible text this is the pure line of Bible text and if you study it and I wish you would again don't always follow the scholars because scholars don't always get things right sounds like to me that scholars think they're smarter than God and so they're always trying to correct the Bible rather than just reading it and following what it says but if you study the history of the Bible you find out that the King James Bible comes from this side this line of text and this is where the true Word of God comes from the Byzantine of the Byzantine line of text now if you were to go to a college today that claim to be a Bible College they would say oh the Byzantine line those are the bad texts why we believe the good texts are the Alexandrian manuscripts and you go what do you guys even read the Bible from this line of text comes the Roman Catholic Latin Vulgate in the Latin Vulgate they say is an old Bible from what about four hundred years after Jesus but I'm going back and I'm reading people from the 1500s 1400s and they say that Latin Vulgate is so full of errors and mistakes you find the Vaticanus you find the city Atticus manuscripts they're missing whole verses missing whole paragraphs these are the Bible texts that are the ones that are corrupted these are the pure line of Bible text so always remember that there's a lot of people out there that are taught wrong in Bible schools because Bible schools will follow scholars that are following the Catholics rather than following the Bible the men that put up the idea that this Alexandrian line of text is the best for Westcott and Hort two very evil wicked cross dressers who were closeted Catholics who hated the King James Bible and wanted to get the whole world back to Rome so they took the Vaticanus and Sinaiticus and said oh we think those are the best texts when you look at those texts they're full of errors or mistakes no the King James Bible comes from the right line of text now I've got a lot of videos on that so I'm not going to get into that here but I want you understand here's a connection of Alexandria with Rome in Rome the Roman Catholic Church is the one that gave the world the Vanek eNOS text and Egypt is where the cine Atticus text all new versions of the Bible don't come from the 5000 plus manuscripts that the King James comes from in the New Testament they come from to New Testament manuscripts that are full of errors and mistakes and it's what's called a critical text men have been critical of the Word of God and so they make their own little Bible and they say well we think you should say this but you can't do that if you come over here to the Byzantine text the majority text the Texas Receptus that's where you get the pure Word of God from enough about that for now so verse 6 and there the Centurion found a ship of Alexander sailing into Italy and he put us there in number 7 when we had sailed slowly many days and scarce will come over against can itis the wind not suffering us we sailed under Crete over against salami Saloni so they sailed under Crete now here's Crete all right now I just read a verse that said they went under cyprus and here's a verse that said they went under crete so they left myra and came under here and what we're gonna see is they came to this place right here fair havens so they're going to all these places okay but I just thought I thought it was interesting as I'm looking at my Bible and I'm looking at these so-called scholars and their maps I think didn't even read the Bible because they they put them going above Cyprus and the King James Bible says we sailed under Cyprus but then in the same map they put and going underneath Crete and he just said we sailed under Crete so if under means this way then this should be the line not the false line that they put in so always be leery of what men say when they when they give you maps and things always make sure you check it with the scripture because oftentimes you're gonna find scholars are wrong and you can't always follow Bible scholars many of them hate the Bible or else they don't read it because they never seem to get it right so they went against Salaam nee so some Monay and hardly passing it we came into a place which is called the fair havens 9 where two was the city of Alessia let's say so here's a place called the fair havens in the island of Crete so they they did a hop it'd been a jump if you will they started from sensory undecided then they come under Cyprus come up to mine now why they didn't come straight across I don't know it was probably something to do with provisions you you got to get provisions and that or else that ship was going where we're going here we're not going out of our way you get another ship that way so they go up to my rent then they come down under Crete and the ultimate goal is to get over here to rob so they're heading that way so they're staying at a place called the fair havens now verse nine now when much time was spent and when sailing was now dangerous because the fast was now already past Paul admonished them now what was the fast that was already passed this is a good question some people say the Feast of Tabernacles the juice do a fast on the Feast of Tabernacles so possibly it has something to do with that I don't know I have no idea what that's saying but they were fasting for some reason now verse ten and said unto them serves I perceived that this voids will be with hurt and much damage not only of the lading and ship but also of our lives so Paul says look the Lord showed me that this is going to be a bad trip we need to be careful something bad can happen you see when it comes to sailing there's certain times of the year when it's better to sail see I live out here on Blackwater Bay I take my little sailboat it's a 14 foot sailboat out maybe once a year I wish I could go every single day but I don't just don't have time to get out and do it and around about spring summer time we get these east winds but in the wintertime we get the north-eastern winds or north north winds and so I know in the back of my mind if I want to go sailing what time of year the winds going to be blowing a certain way and usually it does so these people they followed the wind you know you didn't have power boats back then so you had to follow the winds well for some reason it was the time of year when the winds weren't good so it wasn't good for sailing and they're going well but we got to go anyway and Paul says look I think they're gonna go really bad because this isn't the right time of year to be sailing it so Paul says uh let me warn you guys there's gonna be a bad journey does that kind of remind you of Jonah I mean God kind of revealed to Jonah hey Jonah you know you're not doing right right now verse 11 nevertheless the sins believe the master and the owner of the ship more than those things which were spoken if Paul so the Gentile says shut up prisoner I don't believe anything you have to say now as we get on a little bit further we're gonna find out he believes everything Paul says and he'll realize that God is using him and that he should have listened to him but what happens well and because the Haven was commodious to enter in now commodious means not fitting so the the Haven was not it wasn't a place to to to set in for winter so whatever time it was it was about to be the time for winter so it's probably cold it is we'll see there was oh how many prisoners we'll see there were 267 people on this ship according to verse 37 so he couldn't house 276 people in this little area you imagine the cost of 276 people every night for a hotel or something so his idea the guy he charged was we got to get them to Rome as fast as possible so what did they do well verse 12 and because the Haven was not commodious to waiver winter in the more part advised to depart thence also if by any means they might attain to Phoenicia and their to winter which is an Haven of Crete and live toward the southwest and northwest all right sofa nice where is Fenice it's in Crete all right so Crete is here so it's still the same island but they're thinking it was to the southeast and northeast so you have to go south east and then north east to get there so this place Venise must have been somewhere up here now I couldn't find much about fenice on the internet must have been a name that they don't longer use but somehow they got up to there so they made it or they tried to make it that was where the intention was to go there now look what it says verse 13 when the south wind blew softly supposing that they had obtained their purpose loosing vents they sailed close to Crete so they stayed close to the to the coastline why because the waters real deep out there so you want to stay as close to a bank as you can it's the best way to do it if you're sailing in those waters and then they sailed close to Crete verse 14 but not long after there rose against it a temper impetuous wind called euroclydon this is a week and s east wind some say it's a northwest wind some say a southwest wind but it appears to be an east wind your Rockland on it went from the east a terrible storm why that sounds like Jonah Jonah because he disobeyed God why there was a storm now verse 15 where the ship was caught and could not bear up into the wind we let her drive so for some reason they couldn't get the wind to go the way they wanted it to do now some people say it's a north well if it's the north wind well that would make sense they're trying to go up that way but it's blowing them back down they're not getting to where they want to be so what happens well they let her drive verse 16 running under a certain island which is called cloud ax we had much work to come by the boat so the storm did damage to the boat and they ended up on a little island called clawed ax and I did not draw that little island up here but it would be around right here the little island of cloud ax and I looked up the island of clutter so they tried to get over here to fenice say but they didn't quite make it and they ended up over here in Claudia instead now Claudia is the southernmost island of Greece and Claudia is also called gall DOS it's the southernmost Greek island below the island of Crete so we would actually put it on the side but it should be down on the bottom so they had to start working on the boat now those days you had to do a lot of work on boats and sometimes you'd have to stop and get on a shore somewhere and repair ships verse 17 which when they had taken up they used helps undergirding the ship and fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands strike sail and work and so we're driven so they're fixing the undergirding of the ship a lot of times they hit stuff between the don't boards different things to keep the water from coming in so the storm the waves from that gigantic storm you rock alot on then some sort of damage to the ship and had to be repaired verse 18 we being exceedingly tossed with the tempest the next day they lighted the ship well lighting the ship is throwing things overboard so the ship is more light and the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship now you don't want to start talking throwing out the tackling of the ship that's bad you need the tackling the sails so obviously it's so bad that they just started throwing away everything now verse 20 and when neither Sun nor stars and many days appear and no small tempest lay on us all hope that we should be saved was then taking away imagine going many days so you don't see the Sun and you don't see the Stars why because the clouds are overhead there's a it's a gigantic storm why almost sounds like some sort of hurricane verse 21 but after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of him says search you should have hearkened unto me and not him loose from Crete and to have gained this harm and loss now picture this here's one of the prisoners it goes why did you guys listen to me now what's the guy in charge going to say shut up prisoner but they listened and he says in verse 22 and now I exhort you to be a good cheer for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you but of the ship verse 23 for there stood by me this night the angel of God whose I am and whom I serve now he's got the Holy Spirit in him but here the angel of the Lord appears to him so here's Jesus appearing to him at the same time that he's got the Holy Spirit inside of him what a blessing or so before saying fear not Paul thou must be brought before Caesar and lo God had given to all them that sail with thee so this is what the what God says to Paul don't be afraid you're gonna make it verse 25 so paul tells them wherefore serves be of good cheer for I believe God that it shall be even as it was told me how be it verse 26 we must be cast upon a certain Island so there was a certain island they ended up on and that Island was this one right here the island of Malta so it appears what it sounds like there was it 14 days that it said there that somehow they go from this here and there just drifting the whole time all the way over to the on this island it doesn't sound like they're able to to sail at all it sounds like this storm destroyed the sails and they just had to drift until they drifted somewhere and they ended up drifting over here into the island of Malta verse 27 but when the fourteenth night was come okay so 14 days so long drifting as we were driven up and down in Andreea which would be what the Adriatic Sea about midnight the shipment deemed that they drew near to some country and sounded and found it 20 fathoms now sounding is putting down ropes with knots on them to find the bottom when you find the bottom you count the knots and then you know how deep it is so they sound it again it was 15 fathoms verse 29 been fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks they cast four anchors out of the stern and wished for the day and as the Shipman were about to flee out of the ship when they had let down the boat into the sea under color as though they would cast anchors out of the for ship Paul said to the Centurion into the soldiers accept these abide in the ship you cannot be saved that's pretty neat verse 32 then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat and let her fall off now verse 33 well the day was coming on Paul besought them all to take me saying this day is the 14th day that she have tarried and continued fasting having taken nothing now they obviously probably have some drink because some people say you can't go so many days without drink but they didn't eat so Paul said look you know we've been we've been fasting here for two whole weeks let's eat something now may imagine fasting that long you're gonna be weak you can't do a lot of work so obviously they're not going to repair the ship or at least like quickly but it sounds like the ship gets broken up completely now look what it says here verse 34 wherefore I pray you to take some meat for this is for your health for there shall not inherit all from the head of any of you 35 and 188 does spoken he took bread and gave thanks to God the presence of them all and when he had broken and he began to eat then were they all of good cheer and they also took some meat and we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls now threescore is 20 so threescore would be 60 so 60 plus 16 is 76 so two 176 Souls 276 people on one ship that's a full ship and it probably wasn't too terribly big maybe 40 foot 50 foot probably not even that long many of the ships they use for trading vessels were probably 3040 feet one time here in Pensacola we had the the replicas the remakes of the ships the Nina the Pinta and the Santa Maria that that Columbus would have used and they took them around the country and let people see what those ships would have been looking like and they made exact replicas of them and I was surprised I think the longest one was about 3540 feet so these are small boats small ships imagine having 276 people on one little boat that's a lot verse 38 and when they had eaten enough they lied to the ship and cast out the wheat into the sea when it was day verse 39 what happened and when it was day they knew not the land but they discovered a certain Creek with a shore into which they were minded if were possible to thrust in the ship now why would you want to do that well you want where there's water so that water will always be underneath you so they wanted to sail in to where the fresh water of the island was coming into the salt water of the sea and they were hoping that they could rest the ship there so that was the idea verse 20 when they had taken up the ends anchors they committed themselves unto the sea and loosed the rubber band rubber bands rubber bands know they have rubber bands back then the rubber bands now the rudder of course is the is what steers the ship and it always things lower so they had to loose it so the ship would stick in the sand so they what got rid of that so that the boat would float in nothing would stop it when the taking up the anchors they committed themselves on the sea and loose the rubber bands and hoisted up the mainsail to the wind and make toward shore so somehow they still had a sail and they said we'll use this sail now I can only imagine it probably was torn and had had holes in it because they just went through a storm but they did the best they could with the sail of the head verse 41 and falling into a place where two seas meant they ran the ship aground in the fore part stuck fast and unmovable but the hinder was broken with the violence of the waves so they got the ship stuck on the rocks if you will in the back of it's going like this and the front won't move so what's gonna happen you keep doing this long enough it's gonna crack in half so here's what happens the ship broke the waves were so violent we're so strong I was this still part of the of the storm whatever it is there's some big waves verse 42 and the soldiers council was to kill the prisoners lest any of them should swim out and escape because you know if you were a Roman soldier and you were in charge of other people we saw this in Acts chapter 16 then if this prisoner got away then you were held accountable and you were killed and that was in Acts chapter 16 you remember when Paul says you know do thyself no harm we were all here and he says what must I do to be saved unbelievable Lord Jesus Christ the the jailer the Philippian jailer was going to kill himself because he knew that Rome would kill him otherwise so here you get a mindset of why this Centurion said that hey let's just go ahead and kill all 276 of these guys I think we don't have to worry about it but Paul says no I'm telling you I'm of the Lord and I'm telling you don't worry about it nothing will happen and the soldiers council was to kill the prisoners lest any of them should swim out and escape but the Centurion willing to save Paul so by this time this whole trip Paul won over the Centurion for some reason or another the Centurion said you know I'm gonna I'm gonna hang on to this guy Paul and so he did he hung on to Paul he says no for Paul's sake we're gonna let him live verse 43 but the Centurion willing to save Paul kept them from their purpose and commanded that they would that they which could swim should cast themselves burst into the sea and go to land and the rest some on boards and some one broken pieces of the ship and so it came to pass that they escaped all safe to land so just like God told Paul they would none of them would die and they all lived and they all escaped safe to the land some of them that knew how to swim swam to the land others who did not know how to swim what happened well they floated on so as the ship broke into pieces they grabbed one of the pieces of the board have floated in through the waves so they were surfers they were surfing the waves in no I won't go there but this is on the island of Malta let me show you that verse one of chapter 28 28 1 when they were escaped then they knew that the island was called Malita Malita today we call that the island of Malta and that Island is south of Sicily and it's way out here so they're going from island to island notice what it says there's a board now I'm gonna explain something to you just out of fun this is this is one of the verses that I like to use I'm an ordained independent baptist minister I went to Bible School and the church was an Independent Baptist Church so after I got out of Bible School I did what's called deputation and many of the independent Baptists well they if you want to be a missionary you have to do what they call deputation which means you travel to different churches and you ask them to support you every month as a missionary for so much so I did that for three years I was on deputation now The Independent Baptist denomination at one time was the greatest one there was probably they were probably as close as you can get to the Bible and the teaching of the gospel and everything else but to this day well many people in the infinite Baptists are starting to turn away and they're more following the denomination and in the customs of the teachings of the nomination rather than the Bible and I find that set now not all of them there's some still good Independent Baptist but there's some independent Baptists that are more into tradition and the way that they do things rather than the way the Bible says so in order to be a missionary many independent Baptists say well we the way to be a missionary is this that or the other thing well there was a man years ago named William Carey William Carey many people look at William Carey today as the father of modern missions and William Carey was a missionary and rather than doing things the way the Bible says William Carey he said you know I want to be a missionary but I'm gonna find a bunch of rich guys I'm gonna ask the rich guys to get together and send me as a missionary in the Bible remember Acts chapter 13 Paul went out as a missionary and they laid hands on him and what happened well when they laid hands on him then they sit him out so from the church so who is the one that's supposed to send missionaries the church but William Carey what he did when he went and he got these all these rich people he said come together and form yourself as a mission board and send me out so William Carey the father of modern missions as he's known today started and this would be what seventeen eighteen hundreds I forget he started what today are called mission boards and so mission boards have been around for many years and today people think that you cannot be a missionary without a mission board well I don't know about that I don't find any mission boards in the Bible but today many independent Baptist churches say well we don't accept the missionary if he doesn't have a mission board and you go yeah but there's no mission board in the Bible that's a tradition that's only a couple hundred years old why do you want to do it the way this guy said why don't you do it the Bible way so I did what everybody else did I got a mission board and I was sent out of my church as a missionary but I had a mission board and the mission board whatever the churches which supports you well they would take the money put it in the bank for you and they would help you in in some ways or another as you're as you're serving the Lord as a missionary but I never found the mission board in the Bible I was always a little bit uncomfortable you know mission board where's that in the Bible and as I studied more about becoming a missionary because I knew that's what God want me to do missionary to Honduras I was there for seven years as a missionary I did what everybody else did without questioning I got a mission board I got a church sending me out that would have been Peter ruckman Church I was actually sitting out at Peter ruckman church as a missionary to Honduras and I had a mission board and I did deputation for three years and got my support and went to Honduras as a missionary and before I did though I heard all these horror stories of all these missionaries saying oh I've got this my mission board Oh my mission board is this with you what's your mission board and and I talked to these missionaries and the mission boards that they had were like Lourdes over them they were told by their mission board you can't do this do that you can't do this yeah but my pastor says who cares where you're we're in charge of you WETA and it was like the Mission Board had taken over control of the church and I looked at that and it bothered me to see these mission boards to see how let's see my old pastor dr. Oatman used to say that God set something up and then it becomes a movement but then it becomes a machine and then it becomes apostate and then that cycle starts over afresh anew all the time you always see God sending a man God uses the man to preach against the apostasy then that man sets up his own movement then it becomes a machine and then it becomes its own apostate tradition and then it begins to do things that aren't right then another man has to come and preach against that and then stuff and so he always taught that that's how it happened God will always start with a man doing something for God and William Carey did a lot for the Lord as a missionary but usually what they do turns into apostasy and so you've got the mission boards and so I looked at mission boards as is apostate I don't find them in the Bible and I looked at several mission boards to get on as a missionary on their mission board and I would ask him look up what do you what do you ask of the missionaries they say well whatever you get we get 20% also like wow that's more than a tithe that's twice the twice the amount of a tithe what are you doing taking money from me and then they were to tell you but you got to do what we say you got to do this you got to do that and we take out so much for this and so of it and I just looked at mission boards it's like wow you know what the best job in the world would be is be the head of a mission board why you'd be rich but I looked at mission boards and I couldn't find him in the Bible and I had a mission borden and I glad I went with the mission what I had because it was the best mission board because they said we will never tell you what to do all we ask is that you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and every other mission board that I looked at and then I thought about joining they were like we tell you what to do and you do what we say and it was like no I'm not gonna be brought under the authority of something meaning most of them were a bunch of bald-headed fat about this blimps and I could tell they were filthy rich because they're taking you had 30 missionaries and each one I was getting a couple thousand a month and you're taking 20% out of that why no wonder the heads of the mission boards were driving new Cadillacs every week you know every month they had a new Cadillac and I just looked at that as how weird that this thing had set itself up and started itself and was it was feeding off of the money that's supposed to be going to missionary I always looked at that mission board as an anti biblical thing so I'm in Honduras for as a mission here for seven years then my dad passes away I come back and have to take care of my grandmother so I no longer can could stay Honduras as a missionary of course we couldn't stay cause we could never get my wife's residency we had to leave every 90 days and they come back and and all these things but God worked it out and allowed me to see two churches planted in Honduras while I was there and they're still going and that's a blessing and I saw I looked at that I came back and I said well Lord what do you want me to do you know these churches won't support me because I'm not in in a foreign field as a missionary and the Lord says do the work of evangelist I kept getting that verse over and over do the work of evangelist incise and well okay I'm a missionary evangelist in my mission board says we don't want you anymore because you're not you know a missionary in Honduras if you were going back and then maybe you know and things like that and in it after a while I thought about it's you know I don't need a mission board because they're not in the Bible and so we didn't have the mission board anymore and now I don't have a mission board I'm completely taken care of by God's people people watch my videos on YouTube and then send me something in the mail and say brother breaker I you know I appreciate what you do and so that's called living my faith and that's a wonderful thing sometimes it's scary sometimes you know it's like Oh Lord you know what I need but God always provides but I set all that to say this many times I would go and preach in a church and a preacher would say brother breaker what mission board are you sent out of and I say pastor let me stop you right there show me in the Bible where a mission board sent somebody I said I know what you mean I know what you're asking what mission board my affiliated with but I said pastor show me in the Bible where they send out missionaries from a board and he goes who never thought of that and I'd take him to Acts chapter 13 in Acts chapter 13 look at that first well I guess you could say Jesus was the first missionary but he's got him in so the first real missionary that we find in the Bible is the Apostle Paul in Acts chapter 13 verse 1 now there was at the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers and it continues on they're mentioning their names numbers - as they ministered to the Lord and fasted the Holy Ghost said separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work we're into I have called them and when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them they sent them away now verse 4 so they being sent forth by the Holy Ghost departed unto this place nowhere in the Bible do I see a Mission Board at all and nowhere in the bible does the Mission Board send someone as a missionary but today if you're an Independent Baptist and you're a preacher and an Independent Baptist you're watching this or you're a missionary or you'reyou're just a typical person that's sending it but you will have heard this no doubt you'll have seen a missionary coming to your church and preach and he says I'm sit from such-and-such a Mission Board next time he says that would you walk up to him and say brother can you show me in the Bible where a mission board send people you can't find it see there's no sending of missionaries by a board a board is a man-made most the time I guess it's any corporation but it's a man-made thing there's no mission board in the Bible in the Bible a church sends you they ordain you and they send you out here's my certificate of ordination I was ordained and I was sent out by my home church this is my sending church and what happened was while I was at my home church all right I went to Pensacola Bible Institute graduated there in 1998 two weeks later I got an airplane with the hunters for about three months no doubt in my mind God called me to be a missionary to Honduras so I come back and almost immediately I start deputation I start traveling churches and preaching and asking for them to support me as a missionary to Honduras took me for three years to get the support to do that and I chose this place here the Bible Baptist mission as the mission board it's because like I said they said look we don't like many mission boards tell you what to do you do what the Lord tells you to do and we'll support you so I didn't think of it as a bad thing and I still don't if it's a good thing if it helps but when I saw many missionaries were saying was that their boards brags and the board says we send you as a missionary no you don't there's no boards in the Bible sending people as missionaries and the Mission Board says they support people and so I always didn't like that I don't have a mission board today and I don't want one I don't need one there's not any in the bike well I don't see why why someone would want one to lord over them and tell them what to do I think that's pretty sad but I said all that to say this look at verse 44 and the rest someone boards so after I left our old church which would have been Peter ruckman church we went to a different church I'm a spanish-speaking missionary Vangelis to Spanish speaking people so I said you know what I want I want to spanish-speaking church and the church that I went to that they didn't ordain people I don't know why I don't know why they wouldn't ordain they say well if you started working you come back years later then we'll ordain you but no in the Bible they laid hands on them then they sent them out not vice versa so my desire was I want to be an ordained minister so we left our old church and we joined this church in Mexico they ordained me and they send me out and I call that my sending church like they see about these that be because they like it I see em from Monterrey Mexico that's our home church that's our sending church that's the church that I look at as my church that laid hands on me to send me out as a missionary evangelistic reach and teach just as you know the church sent they laid hands on Poland sent him out and I don't have a mission board today and so all this I said for this reason people will ask me if I get around independent Baptists they say oh you're a missionary rub breaker what board are you sent out of I said I'm not I'm not sent by a board I don't see any mission boards in the Bible matter of fact the only board I see in the Bible that help the missionary was this one right here it was a broken ship and all the Apostle Paul did was grab it to float in on it you see I don't think it's correct for a man to submit himself to a board of men and then ask them to help him do the work of the Lord you're supposed to submit yourself to God and you should have a local church you can you can find one it's harder and harder nowadays to get a good bible-believing Church but they are out there but I don't see the mission boards in the Bible but without sated I'm not going to say it's sin for you to be a missionary and have a mission board but just be careful I've heard so many horror stories of men that I've known that were missionaries that were attacked that were ridiculed that were lied about that that were slandered that they stole money from them and it was the board that did it because their boards have no accountability whatsoever to anybody and they can mistreat missionaries so bad so I've come across people may they said we're brother breaker you know what do you think about mission boards and I said well acts 27:44 brother and they said what what's that and I said let's read and the rest someone boards and someone broke in pieces of ship and so it came to pass that they escaped all safe to land the only board I find in the Bible was not a group of men that take a fifth of a man's income that's supposed to be called of God to go preach only board I see is that board that floated in the water that they grab and they went and it all it did was help them it didn't take from them and that's why I'm not really a fan of mission boards today because they take so much from a missionary and I think that's sad now I don't want to put any down I've met some directors of mission boards there was a man named Homer Smith years ago was it worked for the world missions or something I was up in Massachusetts and he was preaching a missions conference and I was part of that missions conference and I had the best week of my life with that Homer Smith he was such a wonderful man knew the Bible and boy was a blessing and I learned a lot from him and he was he's the head of a mission board from if I remember correctly and so again I had nothing against Sam nothing against his board but what I don't like is when something is not in the Bible and then in an abuses it takes advantage of others that's what I don't like so that's what I'm saying huh I don't believe in a mission board I don't think you need one if you're missionary I live by faith go to churches ask for their support you say well well they're not going to mail it to my country okay sometimes mission boards can't help but make sure if you do have a mission board it's not going to steal from you like about you and things like that that's kind of kind of sad so what what a thing to finish on I guess I took what 10 15 minutes to talk about that but that's the verse that I always like to use verse 44 when I come across independent Baptists and they say well brother breaker what do you think about Mission Board so I say well acts 27 44 only board in the Bible was a board that was to help the missionary get to the shore get to the field and sometimes mission boards they don't help they tell you what you can do what you can't do and they take a lot of money from you if you can find the mission board it doesn't do that and they want to be in acts 27 44 mission board that's just there to help then yeah then that's great but I don't close with that well I appreciate your watching we've got one chapter left and we'll get that chapter done here shortly I'll probably use the same map up here Haman as we continue Acts chapter 28 thank you for watching watch it we'll see you next time god bless
