you it ready snow and ice is on the way here after setting a new record low early this morning of minus two we're gonna have to rate shoot this cause this is extremely awkward i'd knock your teeth out don't sue me looks pretty good now it looks really good it seems like every car that we've had around the shop we try to incorporate some kind of story behind it this one here well it seems to have a mind of its own and a story of its own as how well you might even on the list bub didn't wash the car dad didn't wash the car i sure enough didn't drive it to the car wash because i can't drive a standard so you're telling me the car came alive and drove itself dropping the freshest tunes [Music] i'm a fleet i'm an outcast i'm a shadow i stand with the lost souls looking for a down that road and soon it's coming to take everything you know when the monster grows out of the sea you're gonna need somebody like me when your brother's got blood in the streets you better call somebody [Music] for you yeah [Music] you better call somebody like me [Music] better call somebody like me cause you want somebody like me when the line gets a little blurry gonna need somebody like me [Music] call somebody like me cause you want somebody like me when my lines get a little blurry gonna need somebody like me oh my gosh thanks heavier than what i remember them to be they always are you need help pushing you got it now should be good that'll work don't work out [Music] so out of the over 21 million volkswagen beetles they produce i feel like me and dad have definitely had several hundred around the shop here really don't know what it's going to take to get this one up and running uh they're pretty simple cars most of the time if you're getting a little gas getting a little spark and it's turning over they're gonna fire up if this old car still has some life left into her i've been really itching to do a movie car around the shop for a long time now this one being a low investment i definitely think we can pull it off and make something that's definitely going to grab some attention you ready ready here we go they're amazing they're pumping up any gas not yet well that old belt looks terrible tried to anyway that's crazy who knows how old that old gas is in that old train yeah it doesn't look very young in that it's just like it's almost into the turn into oil yeah color wise typical volkswagen really had no reasoning into thinking that this car wasn't going to run again being complete and being a volkswagen normally we've had pretty good luck with these old cars i didn't expect that it was going to crank up on the first try though dad was obviously having to prime it just a little bit with some carb cleaner but apparently there's still some old fuel in this gas tank that it even tried to suck up and begin to run off that don't spill them on my crops oops i'm spelling it everywhere else [Music] so far not too bad like lemonade the game plan is just to get her to idle get her to run a little longer get it up to temperature just to see what kind of motor we got hopefully we've got some good bones here and we can move on to the next subject okay give it a try i think that's gonna do it i don't know i think that's got it let's uh call it a night try to pick up in the morning [Music] well shep more bitter cold temperatures it's that way again tonight we have just started what is our second winter storm warning of this week more snow and ice is on the way here after setting a new record low early this morning of minus two leaving neighborhoods like this one covered in snow and frozen solid and many of them dark power outages what were supposed to be rolling blackouts because of high demand here have now turned into outages of more than 24 hours for some families 22 for mine power emergency is what it's being called here providers now saying it could last for days forcing hundreds of thousands here in north texas million across the state to find any way they can stay warm and safe [Music] [Applause] [Music] i've never really seen quite this much snow here in pagoda we've got just a little bit here and there over the few years that i've been alive i've been alive about 30 for a few years well it's starting to melt off some it's still cold though yeah i think i at least try to make it out to the road without getting stuck in the driveway give it a shot no breaks it'd probably be interesting to see what happens right the coldest it was was about the negative four was what i seen on the thermometer now so it's pretty cold coldest i've ever seen it i was basically out working at the city in that you know it was water leaks people without water our well froze up we've never had that happen there was just all kinds of things that normally i wouldn't have to deal with that i had to this time with us being snowed in and not having any power or any heat kind of slowed us down on moving forward with this project the way we wanted to so we just kind of been waiting out the storm basically where we can get back into the shop pick up where we left off and see how she's doing for us sometimes getting out in the snow and playing is fun most of the time i i don't care to do it because i wind up getting stuck and i don't like being cold it was a little bit more difficult filming in the snow because i was sliding all over the ice and then i have knee deep snow up to here it was just a mess you know where my face though people people know i'm dramatic when we first got this old car dragged up into the shop i know i'd mentioned that we wanted to do a movie car with it i'm sure you guys have put two and two together and figured out exactly what car that would be at this point with that being said we also want to do our own swing of things we always like to try to incorporate our own style on the builds so there's a lot of things we want to change on this car from the way they currently are we already knew the direction we wanted to go with on this car but as we were cleaning it out it was super cool to come across some old documents where it looks like the previous owner may have had the same vision itself it seemed like our plans and ideas were just continuously changing on this build so we figured our best route was to go ahead and reach out to our friend dan of moffitt motorworks he's super good at doing renders and artwork on stuff like this so with us being able to reach out to him tell us him our ideas let him put them down on pen and paper give us something to build off of and give our viewers an idea of what to expect hi guys my name is dan maffet i'm the owner of math and motorworks i'm an automotive concept designer i work with brands and companies all across the u.s as well as a couple tv shows designing the vehicles they're going to build i do a couple designs for power nation truck tech uh engine power pretty much drawing out their next generation of builds that they're gonna do for the tv series likewise i do this with independent shops that are trying to get a project funded or an idea for a client so they can see what the builder has envisioned for their car so this old volkswagen is actually a 68 model which is going to be a little bit different from the original car that we're shooting the build here so they're going to have to be some modifications we're going to have to do just to make it kind of replicate that car a little closer some of the things including the front fenders are a little bit different the hood and the deck lid are also a lot different on these cars so we're just going to have to make some decisions on what we want to do to approach that situation as far as the paint goes we do want to change up that just a little bit to put our own style on things and something that represents us well we're going to have to do a lot of suspension mark to allow us to tuck a bigger wheel and tire up in that fender well and probably go with a bigger wheel something around a 17. it has an old school look but it'll definitely set the car off for us [Music] it's a whole lot easier to uh erase a line or repaint something on paper than it is to redo a whole car so a lot of builders really rely on designers like myself to take the image in their head put it on paper so they can really see what it's like before they even get started i appreciate the entire restored team you guys do amazing content i'm just honored to be part of a small part of a project that you guys are going to be putting together so thank you for the opportunity [Music] [Applause] on the front suspension of this car it has just a factory beam setup which runs off torsion bars in order for us to lower the car the way i'm wanting to we're not really going to be able to do it with this beam setup with that being said we're going to have to go ahead and pull this one out and go with an adjustable beam that's going to allow us to set the height the way we want it another situation that we're going to run into though is running a wider wheel up front once we slam the car down we're not going to be able to turn the way we want to without it hitting the fender wells oh you got my finger with me okay still on that steering shaft yeah we're going to have to reshoot this because this is extremely awkward we need to go with a narrower beam which will be narrowed about five inches uh we've already got that ordered so once we get this one pulled out we'll put it in place adjust it at the height we want it and move on to the next thing it on this table here all right let's go grab that other beam and start switching stuff out on it okay so just to show you guys a little bit of a comparison from the new beam to the old beam there are some a little bit differences you'll notice it is five inches narrower uh we went without using our shock towers like the original one i had so we're not going to be running shocks up front here it was just going to get into our body too much so we're going to strictly be relying on just the torsion bar set up on this as long as these cars are you can definitely get away with something like that we will be transferring some of these old parts over to the new beam but for the most part we're going with everything new again including ball joints we've got drop spindles new brakes you name it everything's pretty much going to be replaced on this we do have some narrowed tie rod ends as well so when we pull this this front end our steering's going in as well so we got those with the kit next we're just going to go ahead and have christian put some paint on this and just start switching some stuff over [Music] so now that we got christian painting up the new front beam there me and dad are just going to try to tear apart this old one get everything cleaned up the best we can a lot of these parts we will be replacing but the ones that we're not we're going to have to clean them up the best we can replace a few parts on them then send those over to paint as well so what we're about to do now is we're going to try to take these ball joints press them back into these what i would call the control arms and that there's a certain way they have to go in there they're notched here be sure that when you take the old ones out that you go ahead and you mark this here so that you can tell exactly how they need to go in there and there get them lined up get over to your press press them in there and move to your next one [Music] it should work [Music] how's it coming looks pretty good yeah doing pretty good job thank you here's a couple more pieces is that all of them no there's there's actually two more of those and a bunch of little bitty parts oh gosh great we've been cleaning them up i'll bring them in here and just keep spraying it down like you are it ain't got to be perfect just something to make it look a little better than what we had anyway so all right good job [Music] [Music] so now that christian has all these front end parts painted and they fully dried for us me and dad just got to start putting this front beam back together now now obviously we've already mentioned that we bought a narrow beam that come with narrow tie rods as well but we're also running a two and a half inch drop spindle up front on this car so that's going to give us two and a half inches of drop just by placing these spindles on there we've had a lot of volkswagens in and out of the shop in that but we've never really brought one in and tried to lower it or anything so this is going to be a new experience for me probably just leave that a little loose that way we can adjust it around once we get in there there's no alignment tabs i'm pretty sure lance has already checked in on everything we need to know about this so i'm just going to kind of go off what he's looked up and everything so whatever happens with it is his responsibility get that steering box to clear all right there we go okay as far as the brakes go we're basically just going to stick with the drum brakes up front we will have christian go in there restore all that stuff replace everything that needs to be replaced on it as well and just see what we got from there the first time i really helped out with restored i did break jobs on the wanda so it was pretty fun it wasn't really what i was expecting but it was something that kind of sparked interest for me nope i won't be able to hold on i can just give me a second since i've kind of had some knowledge on brake jobs i'm thinking it's going to be somewhat easy but you never know with a new car it's making me mad i wouldn't say i'm easily aggravated i hate that stupid spring but by the time i was done with these breaks i was ready to punch somebody or punch through a wall done done done other side makes me mad makes me want to thought it i feel like christian kind of went in thinking that this was going to be a fairly simple job you know all breaks are not the same so you never really know for sure what you're getting into they basically work the same but they're not if i'd knock your teeth out don't sue me i feel like that thing's gonna pop out at me christian tends to be a little bit on the weak side so she doesn't have that little bit of weight she needs to be able to pull and tug and push but uh other than that she she'll wrassle it until she gets it done got it of course on the one that we're not videoing but then you still got the bottom one i don't know what i did with the screwdriver so with this car being a 68 model we're working with a small four lug bolt pattern on the wheels here we wanted to go with something different on that something that would match the air of the car we're trying to build here so we bought a really cool 17-inch raider wheel to achieve that bigger five on 205 pattern we're simply just going to run this wheel adapter it'll bolt in place where the wheel would it's basically a four inch pattern to the larger five inch pattern bolt it on there bolt the wheel see how she looks oh yeah those look good on there so the back of this car has a swing axle set up it works off of a torsion bar system as well we're going to be having to remove the stock spring plates on the rear now we bought some adjustable spring plates so that's going to allow us to adjust it lower on the back to get the car at the height we need it to be [Music] this is my first time to lower any kind of volkswagen so on the back of this thing i've read up you got to take extreme caution on removing these spring plates because they are under a lot of pressure just hope it doesn't hit that i don't know how much it springs down we're just going to be super careful grab us a hammer swing at it see what she does the way we're going to lower the back of this car is using these adjustable spring plates a pretty simple design they go in place of the stock original ones there but as you can tell they've got a pivot point here that's adjustable so once we get these put into places where we mark the original ones we'll be able to just adjust the height up and down wherever we want it just with this allen screw [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i think that's pretty much got everything on it other than bleeding the brakes and stuff probably go ahead and set it down see what she looks like yeah i'm sure she'll look a lot different hopefully we'll lose a lot of that we may have to adjust it just a little bit but yeah i can already tell it made a big difference yeah a lot see what she looks like [Music] it might be too low to even come off the lift it may be i bet it is i have to jack it up yeah we're bottomed out there yep we're off it on the back but we still on it on the front yeah probably grab a jack jack it up get it off these front arms that's always a good thing yeah cars so low won't even come off the lid so most of you guys know that i love a lowered vehicle around the shop if it was entirely up to me i'm pretty sure we'd be putting air ride on this car but seeing that we were looking for something that was just a little bit more budget friendly a little bit less hassle along the way i'm really excited to get this car off the lift and see exactly how low she sits get some weight on it here down pretty good huh yeah and do the back that thing looks so good looks pretty good it looks really good slammed it down a lot the back could go down a little bit more but i kind of like that rake look to it yeah i do too yeah it's pretty exciting seeing this car finally coming together i mean it's very rewarding to take something that has little to no hope left in it and trying just to revival some life back to it and just neat stuff comes out while it's happening i mean remember when we found that stuff inside the car you almost forgot we're about to bring this car back to life if you was to build this car how would you if i was to build this car i think i would try to build it as original as i could to the original i don't know this is hard because i was thinking my line would be out of all the projects we've worked on i always say it's the one we're working on is my favorite but the one i'm we're currently working on is definitely going to be the best one yet [Music] i know there's a certain way that y'all probably want me to answer but this is the best one for right now [Music] i like [Music] dropping the freshest tunes [Music] i've been caught up in the slow lane for way too long mama wanted them training wheels out but i was too [Music] some people doubt can't box me out i'm bout to take off [Music] i do 100 on [Music] [Applause] [Music] coming through can no kids contain me y'all about to know the truth some people can't box me out i'm bout to take off i was born [Music] can't stop now it never slowed me down [Music] watch me [Music] [Music] i guess you come up here this weekend yeah right that wasn't me i know you did i didn't come up here seriously yeah what me one line wasn't me to work on this thing i know dad's been super excited on this project a little more so than probably most we've had around the shop here uh but with this and with dad i know that he's just trying to pull a fast one here i know it was you loved me so happy it was either you yeah i see that but it wasn't me it had to be you all week lance has been wanting to watch this car and surprisingly we show up this morning it's been washed uh he's not putting this one on me and didn't mind even on the left bub didn't wash the car dad didn't wash the car i sure enough didn't drive it to the car wash because i can't drive a standard it was you you and you too so the car came alive and washed itself may be blonde but i'm not dumb so now that we've got the suspension stuff wrapped up on this car we're going to inch our way closer to trying to get it painted in order to do that we're going to need to be replacing a lot of old parts on this car some of them including this front bumper here with it being big and bulky and rusty we're going to just go ahead and pull these ones off we may go ahead and replace them with something new or we may just go ahead and run the car without bumpers for right now as far as the fenders go with this being a 68 model they're completely different from the car that we're shooting for so we bought some new fenders as well we'll just unbolt these bolt the new ones in place we've got some new headlight buckets that's going to allow the car to look the way we want it to [Music] now with this hood i'm really not sure on the direction we're gonna go with on that yet uh some of the sheet metal is kind of hard to find including this hood so with it being in pretty good shape we may just go ahead and keep it or we may find one and replace it as well well it doesn't look too bad huh i think that hood can work now on the rear of the car we're going to go through a lot of the same process including these big bulky bumpers off the back the back fenders are pretty similar to the car we're shooting for other than the tail lights just being a little different but we went ahead and bought some new fenders as well these ones had a little bit of rust a little bit of dents and dings so it'd be just as well just to pull these off and replace them with new now one of the major differences we're going to have to make on the back of this car is replacing this deck lid with this being a somewhat newer style of a beetle it's quite a bit different from the earlier styles it's a little bit shorter which means we're also going to have to be replacing this tail pan to make it fit as well i don't know it looks like we're stepping backwards to me yeah i'm more like we're gutting it than fixing it we're going to have to replace this tail pan for that new deck lid so i may honestly i hate to it may be easier to pull this motor out where we can get to these spot welds back here yeah luckily it's just a few bolts so i think you can undo most of it and drop it pretty quick so hey we just got it running but this is a 50 plus year old car that's been setting up for who knows how long it's probably best we just go ahead and get this motor pulled out now so we've at least got a good runner that matches the looks of the car try to get it up here we'll get some get up underneath and get everything taken loose off that transaxle [Music] watch your fingers there we go not too bad huh not too bad basically we took out four boats three cables a couple of hoses and the thing just dropped out having the engine out gives us the opportunity to be at the back where there's nothing in the way plus we'll also have the engine over here where we can do whatever repairs we need to do on the edge that should work for now so now what we're going to try to do here is remove this old tail pan with us going with the new deck lid that's longer none of our latches are going to line up until we get that replaced so what we got to do there's a ton of little spot welds here we've got to drill out once we get those drilled loose we can break the welds kind of pop this panel off and start test fitting our new panel only about 20 on my side so far they're all over the place i think that's about god on my mind so just to give you guys an idea of the length differences on this deck lid it's pretty extreme so you can tell now why we need to replace this one so now that we've got these spot welds drilled out once we go ahead and pop them loose put the new panel on there make some new plug welds we should be good to go on this back part [Music] [Music] i know that we said that i could probably make this stock 68 hood work on the car but with the amount of work we put into it so far i knew that i wasn't going to be happy with it so after a whole lot of searching around on the internet i finally found a used hood in our area we were able to pick it up pretty cheap it does need a little bit of bodywork but overall i think we'll be happy once we replace this front apron and go with this longer hood it's just really going to give us the look that we want for this car [Music] now that we made a little headway on this car we're going to take a little break from it to head over to my pastor jake's family's house they've got an 86 firebird that it looks like they're willing to bless us with so we're just gonna head over there check it out i know it's something that we can possibly use around the shop [Music] so [Music] hey brothers what's going on hey y'all how much how are y'all all right out here in the middle of nowhere ain't you yeah my name is joey neal jones uh i married darlene freeman in 1981 january we i moved in here about that time we have a son jacob johnson we've lived on this property for 40 years i've been really blessed to live this life on this earth and lived here everything you see is is homemade homegrown we you know we do everything ourselves around here and as much as possible what do your mom just say 86 right yes sir that's 1996. that's a good year that's my birthday that's the year i was born well however old you are that's how the car is right yeah 34 years it's 86 model we got it in 88 and we still have it you know this is 20 21 so what it means to him you know is just the world that you are taking it and you know at least giving it a shot to do something so you think she'll still run or yeah it ran it's been over a year since it's ran it's very sentimental to us like i said it was mom's car so you know she passed away not last october so uh it just means a lot you know to both of us you mind if i look inside of it or oh sure yeah yes it used to be red at one time yes sir i painted right there in the garage and i i i'm kind of the joe all trades i tried a little bit of everything you know so i tried painting i actually painted two or three cars i remember him painting it black i don't remember you know how long we had it before he did that but um i remember mom driving it fast though okay if we pop the hood on it no no no i don't care the latch work on it or is it no it's ready it's real it probably works yes uh i don't ever i hadn't last night's skin yeah that's never a good sign no yeah that's not bad up underneath here well it's all original yes sir i mean as far as the engine the wheels is the only thing i don't know it's not original right i've had it it had 20 000 miles on when i got it when darlene and i got it darling used to ride it drive it for several years jake drove to several years i drove for several years and just sitting you know anything you don't maintain when it sits goes down and if it has somebody to take care of it and you know to work on it this car would be back on the road yes sir mostly i remember mom driving it and then i drove it you know after i got 16 and and uh and started going back and forth to school and stuff in it but when i was a kid i remember it was mom's car so when i bought the firebird she finally drove it well after that first time she drove it i couldn't get her out of it it's been about a year since it ran yeah and that starter was was grinding so bad that you know i didn't mess with anymore and in my shape i couldn't i'm not able to that's where my starter kind of grinds when i try to get up and go around too so yeah yeah i like loud pipes shiny wheels with squealing tires smoke coming off of them know yeah but i've gotten my physical abilities tonight like they used to be and i i've i've let things go and i haven't been able to take care of it and i know now it's got a chance of being taken care of he got 25 miles a gallon yeah and get tickets in it yeah i can't imagine something y'all got some storage on that side yeah i i know i do i bet he does there was one time i was coming from around the direct texas area and uh just uh one of those 55 mile an hour highways and i took corner pretty quick seeing what she could do and it was dark and and well coming towards me you know i've seen some lights flash for whatever reason i shouldn't have done it but i i gunned it and went up to somebody's driveway and turned the lights off and i just kept waiting apparently they were just warning me because i never saw him come back but that's when i kind of thought you know i probably need to respect this car a little bit more than that but that car uh we've uh done a lot through it it's it's uh it's went through the fire for sure you pulled him pull that breather off and look at it or you well i'm just looking ain't no doesn't look like any mice been eating on wires or anything that's the main thing too yeah yeah well i've been battling them they're i'm sure there's some i've redone some yeah i mean uh you can tell they've been all up in here and yeah and i bet that's the reason why that snake might have kept him out for a while yeah you know because he was laying here to see this part of it right there yeah i hope he's i hope he's gone i hope he is too i don't want somebody to get snake bit on my account if you don't mind i'm gonna open up the back end no that's fine okay now this is the same way oh yeah okay this used to work [Music] it's got a sensor here to when you shut it it goes and pulls it tight oh yeah otherwise you're going to hear it rather than when you go down the road you remember that part about it oh yeah it was one of my school cars and my wife our first date i i was actually driving it at the time we we just got out in the car that car and just started you know talking and you know how it is you know first date just getting to know each other and i don't know how long we sat there continuing to chat but i just looked down all of a sudden that temperature gauge on the firebird just started uh climbing up and so that's the only time i remember that car ever getting overheated i used to meet i worked second my wife worked first shift and the last time i'd meet her sometimes i like on friday and i was running about 10 minutes late and i was going down south church street i seen her pull out the store she had already left and went to the store and got her something and when i was coming down the road and she pulled out of the store and what she did is she took on off and barked the tires and went on down the road pretty good so when i finally caught up with her and i asked her i said you always drive like that well isn't that what you bought this car for i know she's gonna have a good home and you know i say that's that it means a lot to me yes because it's been in the family for a long time you know it's really an extreme blessing and an honor that my pastor jake reached out to us about getting this car uh sitting here hearing the stories behind it with their mom i know that this car means a lot to their family yeah it's hard for me i get really emotional hey this car belonged to my wife she put more miles on anybody and i appreciate them coming out here it means a lot to me because it belonged to my wife this family really means a lot to us and we've known them for a while now they've done a lot for us so to have the opportunity to try to give back to them a little bit with getting this car up and running possibly resurrecting some of these old memories it just means the world to us [Music] it ain't over [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] the car is been real particular to me and my family i think you know if it's got any chance at all that the restorer will be able to help it besides the fact that y'all are really great people and i like y'all oh yay hey [Music] it ain't nobody knows [Music] [Music] so now that we're back at the shop we're really going to jump in head first on trying to get this car complete we heard about a car show that's coming up in about three weeks so we'd love to try to have this thing up and finish to be able to present it at its first car show now i know it seems like we've been doing a whole lot of one step forward two steps back on this but we're going to go ahead and pull off all these new panels we just placed on there in order to prep this thing for paint we typically mess with a whole lot of patina around the shop on this car we wanted to do something a little bit different and go shiny on it now we're not looking for any kind of show quality paint job on this thing but we want something that we can put around in if it gets a dent or ding or scratch in it something that just doesn't destroy our lives no my life is over [Music] i'm just saying was in a hail storm or something only trouble yeah i think there's about 20 of them up there so far quite a few on priming this we're going to be using a 2k urethane primer uh we'll apply two to three good wet coats on the car this will allow us to give plenty of build to level everything out where we've done our body work where we fix any dents dings scratches on the car once this fully cures out we'll be able to wet sand it and then begin to apply our paint so so now that we've got the car primed we've got it sanded washed prepped and everything we're going to roll it into the booth start masking it off for our first coat of paint now on this your paint job is only going to be as good as your prep job so usually i'm a fast-paced worker and with this being time consuming on the prepping i'm super excited to finally see some paint on this car the least favorite part about painting is probably the prep work you know there's so much detail that goes into sanding and getting it down just to a certain point there that it takes a lot to get it ready just to be [Music] painted they won't be refused [Music] [Applause] we're going to be painting this car with a two-part system called a base coat clear coat system with us doing the logos doing the stripes this is going to work out best for us for this application so we'll go in there we'll lay down our first coat of the base coat which is going to be the original color of the car it's just a mixing ratio of two to one we'll probably put two to three coats on it then we'll move on to the next step of doing the logos on the doors [Music] and i've heard you [Music] in order for us to achieve these logos on this car uh we're basically just going with a couple different templates here on this one we just need to get our overall circle design placed on the car so we've just got some vinyl material here we're going to tape it up on there take a few measurements to get it exactly where we want i'll trace around it with just a pencil and then i'll go ahead and fine line tape it out and mask away from it so we can go ahead and lay down our lot [Music] [Music] now we're going to go ahead and start laying out the numbers on this car what we're going to use is just a masking system as well on that basically like a decal for a car but we're using it as a stencil the problem is we're running two parts here so what we're gonna have to do is be sure that we tape them down look at it make sure that everything's centered the way we want it to be before we do our final masking and lay down the black color i'll go [Music] now we got the final logos are the numbers put on the car it's starting to come together and you can actually tell the way this thing's going to look now we need to start laying out our racing stripes though we're going to go with a red white and blue stripe which the car would have running across the top panels here we're also going to go ahead and run the stripe across the bottom panels like you saw on the artwork earlier in the video to do that we're just going to make a lot of measurements start laying out our fine line tape there mask it all off shoot our three different colors we really want to try to clear coat this thing today so we can go ahead and finish painting up the fenders uh try to make it a little bit closer to making it to the car show [Music] will be [Music] [Music] is [Music] so anyone who knows us knows that we're always trying to include god in any of our projects with this car being known as the love bug you're probably curious of why we decided to go with number 13. first corinthians 13 13 reads three things will last forever faith hope and love and the greatest of these is love so really there's no greater example of love than what god's shown us himself through his son jesus christ [Music] is [Music] this car already had a door port engine in it which was an upgrade from what it would have originally had so that's a good thing that's going in our direction but we do want to go ahead and replace pretty much everything on it [Music] [Music] we're pretty well replacing everything on this engine except for the block we've had really good success with taken everything apart off this only had one boat break off in the exhaust it's really coming together a lot better than i thought it would [Music] so [Music] it's not every day that you can take an engine out and completely gut it down to the block and put it back together in just a few hours i definitely think it's going to be worth the decision of pulling it out to rebuild it [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] so we have literally been working on this car for what seems forever we've basically got two days left until the show and more than probably what we can have handled to get it done there's been a ton of early mornings and late evenings we still got a ton of work left to do with it we've got to get the glass in the car we've got to get the fenders put back on this thing lights wiring you name it we ain't even got the motor back into the car yet so with two days away from the car show we definitely have our hands full [Music] i really hate it when we have a really stiff deadline in that because that's when it seems like everything goes wrong but we're just hoping and praying that we'll have the blessing of god and maybe this thing will do just exactly what we're needing it to do regardless of how this goes i think we're all just ready to get this car done this is just a ton of work in a short amount of time we haven't even heard this thing run i make it look easy [Music] you're about to get ain't no stopping me like this you park anywhere you want to right out through here and the registration table is right inside the door behind that red tent today was literally the first day that we drove this car with the new rebuilt engine in it but hey we've made it here we're going to go ahead and set up there's a lot of cars that have showed up so far i know this thing's gonna be a lot of [Music] fun [Music] in this show we're obviously going to be competing against any kind of early beetle that might show up and typically we don't see a whole lot around our area with that being said though everywhere i look i feel like i see another one that's lined up against us here so we're really not sure how the judges are going to be judging this thing but it looks like we could have some stiff competition [Music] look at everybody [Music] [Applause] [Music] it would be somewhat a little bit of a disappointment not to win a trophy we put a lot of work in on this car a lot of late nights and early mornings and to take this from one level we were going to another level that we went when they announced the number of the car and they announced lance rush lance bush lance rush we were taking that trophy home i mean i knew that we'd win you know we actually won second place but they didn't tell you that did they [Music] are you kidding me [Music] hey there so gonna be 10 38 north main be out on a white volkswagen b106 hello officer high river chris [Music] police know department battle is never through every risk that i take every bone that i break just doing what i [Music] i need a vacation [Music] when we drove this car into the shop we didn't know a whole lot about it other than it needed a whole lot of work ahead on it uh when we found it it was basically on its last leg and definitely on the end of its road [Music] as you guys know we love everything lowered around the shop here so that was pretty much the first thing we wanted to mark off the list to get this car dropped down with a new stance and the attitude that we liked being that this car was a 68 we also wanted to switch up some panels to make it appear like it's an earlier bug as well [Applause] as we began to replace some of these body panels on the car it was evident that this thing was going to need paint so we decided to do a little bit more bodywork than normal scratch the whole patina idea and go with something shiny we decided to take this old worn out dual port engine and rebuild it completely also chroming the motor out where it matches the look of the car i guess i have to say that the only downfall towards this car is that sometimes it just has a mind of its [Music] now own just doing what i don't stop doing what i [Music] doing do [Music] uh you
