Abandoned Mental Institution with Dark History - They Experimented on Children!

we've explored the facility originally called the experimental school for teaching and training idiotic children dates back to the late 1800s and over the years would be home to a litany of abuses these include forced sterilization as part of eugenics program allegations of physical and sexual assault by employees and even a well documented case of children unknowingly becoming test subjects classrooms as students in the public school system in actuality it functioned more like a prison a way to keep children deemed feeble-minded out of the general population the students were almost never allowed to leave the facility and many would grow up and spend their entire lives within the walls of fern old fueling this frustration the boys would often lash out into violence and their behind so we finally found a building that has some stuff in it so it's like a cafeteria got your food trays here lots of surgeries it's weird how they made them so thick that aren't least akka ficient lee there's a bed here it's always nice to move channels and smashed apart dams yeah yes this place doesn't have a tunnel system does have a good amount of stuff in this bullet note so she's wonder what kind of files would have been so important then you have to be is this what they kept their secret experiment levels recorded observation and activity document medication status in history walter elmer from one of the most incredulous tales of wrongdoing to emerge from fern 'old is that of the radioactive oatmeal in the late 40s and 50s 74 boys aged 10 to 17 joined the school science club enticed by the promise of trips off the school grounds and other perks the science club however was really a basis for a series of research studies carried out by MIT and funded by the Quaker Oats Company who hoped to find evidence of their oatmeal's nutritional benefits for marketing purposes however in order to carry out this research the students were fed oatmeal containing radioactive tracers none of the students were aware of this fact until decades later when a number of government documents related to radiation testing were Declassified in 1998 MIT and Quaker Oats were forced to pay nearly two million dollars the victims nearly half a century after the experiments occurred here's a map what to residents houses mr. oh yeah the Chinese had floor plans for each building I'm theater mommy I've ever seen pictures of this place before no I haven't I mean I'm sure there are plenty out there chance man all the time the ceiling reminds me a lot of West burrow State Hospital kind of does very reminiscent of that auditorium looks like there was a medical cross on the ground right in the center I want to find like a fallout shelter again or something these are always cool this is a cool an old coffee machine hot chocolate gonna be this is the sugar in the trees that building over there has a fence only around that building so I'm thinking it was abandoned much earlier than the others and might have some cool old stuff in there so I kind of want to try to see that one this building's a lot older I already tell ya no but it hasn't been renovated or anything this has been closed for a long time okay I like this talking a lot more than all the others already even if there's less in it the old doors see now this is remind me of a proper Asylum right now still mostly empty butts it's so cool there's a lot of decay yeah the window frame is on the floor it's pretty heavily decayed yeah oh here's the floor collapsing into the basement hope there's no stairs down there might be on the other side let's go the other way first this is it for second floor wiping dangerous that's just wood there's sad chairs in here too we've seen these another silent before probably the same person made the sad chairs were they all frowning though or there's some smiling ones okay sad chairs just chilling these desks look really old these wooden ones the woods all worked set up by herb Xers just I kind of just face a fireplace it's chilly in here the roof and the floor are completely caving in going upstairs is going to be difficult I mean we've been on sketchier floors I feel like you can usually see where it's not doing too well just tread carefully okay that end of the building is screwed holy cow all right just we're turning around sure it's probably just for this wing but like maybe just look at what it looks like up there I don't know what this did it's a creepy-looking fire door yeah I put sheets of metal on it okay be very careful here before it's just gone over there nothing that's worth it before it does I wore it all dark to see the cracks in the brick let's go back to the other yeah there's a projector here on monitors there's a bathtub in different color I was just in the yellow pastel room and this is like the pink pastel and then you've got the blue pastel check it out these are all Polaroids they're kind of gross covered in dirt you can see the roof is almost non-existent just the ceiling who's left alone is shining right through that could fall on our heads right now it could I probably won't until it's snow is heavily which winter just ended see this guy right through here guess it survived until next year this is an old creepy basement lots of exposed stone could these be the tunnels you were searching for I bet you behind that door though probably tunnel I think they sold them all in or seal them off here something old washing machine you know got a toothpaste colored fridge easier employee and looks like this one name on it oh [ __ ] I just like hydrotherapy tops right here yeah Wow like four balloons got him down here they're stacked on top of each other or they could just be normal about yeah I don't know if they're horrible they just were moved down yeah it's collapsing oh yeah this is below that one room where the chill is just barely hanging on there's a bike do you see the bicycle right there outside it's [ __ ] dangerous there's a rusty old bike right there I think the bricks were meant to be like that the chairs are welcoming us in though this is a pretty sick kitchen they would have had to feed a lot of people here big place check out the ceiling in here that's a lot of heels a lot of furniture shoved in here floor is gross over here oh [ __ ] we got chandeliers in here this must have been maybe a mess hall a big kitchen about what I want yeah it says dining room right there yeah don't take something out of the dining room there's just stuff thrown in here for storage all kinds of photos you spot any of the buildings the face is kind of this one someone tried to burn this mostly photos of people some of these were patients I'm sure at the time these photos were taken the abuse stuff was already over you know that was way in the past I'm sure towards the end they were actually you know being caring it's taking care of people here you know this shows that they were like dealing stuff with the patients not just shutting them in a shell you know I said I've ever run away from patient pictures in an asylum no we have not yeah just a lot of storage set the ceiling collapsing no it's just the lights falling there was a baby carriage here not super aunty [ __ ] we're pretty old what's on those it's a check from 1976 we'll get this chair now these are child restraining chairs they are maybe not that one I don't see straps but the child returning to you definitely this one this doesn't even look that old either I know sure stuff like this is still used today I mean I'm sure another context this would just be a device that isn't that creepy but in the context of this place it's creepy well this is where a kid would be on here and they don't sling roll themselves around yeah their legs would go through that is they can't support themselves standing up I mean there was still kind of exist ad but this one was kind of old definitely [Music] holy [ __ ] look at this it's a dead vulture in here Wow check out this swing the swing is completely gone this is where I was burned out the walls are even collapsing that was piano with all of these on it doesn't look like any don't work it's all jammed up with leaves and the hammers I knew this was gonna be gone Co as soon as we're walking up on it because we've encountered a few of these at other thing is that an Apple computer I think it is Macintosh for us it split open though I was gonna say it looks fairly intact [Music] today the local government is slowly working on remediating the property and has already demolished several buildings some of the structures are protected due to the historic status but there doesn't seem to be any will to do anything with the property anytime soon these buildings are a reminder of our dark history of dealing with mental illness and one day all physical traces of this could be erased but for now they'll continue to sit overgrown and FYI If anyone plans on going there the security is crazy, with patrols going thru the campus daily. There are sensors in the buildings also, they will arrest you if they find you
