hello welcome back to city planner place where we are building the city of verde beach and i am very excited today in the previous episode we added a whole bunch of details to mulligan international airport and it's it seems to be working really well there are a couple of issues that i want to fix um but the reason i'm so excited is not the airport uh it's it's what we're going to get to the airport and that is a highway so i know that there are a couple of things that i've been talking about wanting to implement for a while now uh first is an entire network overhaul of the transit system and we're going to get there but i think that we're going to start out with an overhaul of our highway network first because we are going to have a significant urban highway removal project so right here in particular is where we're going to do some work so there's a lot going on here if you take a look we've got this significant highway that's dividing the east side and the west side of verde beach and the interesting thing is when you take a look at the city so we go through here and if we take a look at the transit network you can see that the west side of the city is well served with transit the east side has almost none and that is kind of the effect that this highway is having it's a significant barrier and today we're going to eliminate it so this is going to turn into a normal arterial road we're going to take keller house and extend it all the way up until we get to about back here and we're going to build a new highway to ring the city and this is going to be a good spot for it because development is going to be really difficult to have happen up here anyway without some sort of road if we take a look at our topography you can see it's kind of a pretty steep slope to get to this top up here we're going to find a way up there but this is a nice natural barrier and boundary to have for that but to be able to build our highway we're going to need to take a look at our rail network because i've been reading the comments i've been on discord and i have been uh listening to everything that you've been saying and i know that i really screwed this up again uh if there's anything i'm not good at in this game it's rail and one of the things that i made a huge mistake on doing is i reverse the location of these so you can see that i have to have this really complex movement to have basically if you're going into the city you got to switch sides so that you can drop off here that's not going to work so we're going to stop that we're going to separate our cargo and our passenger traffic this is an anticipation of our transit overhaul so the reason why we're doing this is because we're going to separate that passenger traffic from that cargo traffic so that's key number one and number two we are going to get rid of this barrier highway so this is going to be very important but before we get to that there's a couple of things i want to fix from the last episode starting out with this so in uh in the sterling family zoo we no longer have water and i'm not 100 sure why this is happening i have one guess and we're gonna test it out that's when i added 81 tiles i'm thinking that maybe the pipe's disconnected for some reason i know that i let it go one episode oh yeah yeah that was it simple as that so when you enable the 81 tile mod if you don't just enable everything all at once things will sink into the ground and i think that the tiles here sunk so or the water pipes here sunk so that's certainly a problem we have that fixed now but i think we need a better solution so we added this water tower over here and my thought process now is maybe we should just solidify that this water tower serves the zoo and the zoo only not the greatest solution in the world truth be told but doing this will ensure that there's never a problem with water in the zoo so now the water in the zoo is entirely separate from the rest of the city so there will always well well no no it's not um yeah no we've got a connection here so here's what we're gonna do [Music] ah and i see the problem we're actually not going to do that because now we don't have sewage treatment here so we will leave these connections i think we're probably good anyway um it's kind of good to know what we can and cannot get away with here so that was obviously something that we can't get away with the problem is we only had water we'd have to have sewage here too and i really don't want to enter into that world so this should fix it we'll see these things clear up and we're good so now that the water is flowing here again we'll we will eventually start to see this clear out the water turn brown again everything will be right in the zoo so with that the one other thing i want to take a look at are maybe two things i want to take a look at these water pumps interestingly it looks like they're all working interesting well i still don't trust these but it seems that everything is fine maybe that's because those storage tanks are full well we will just let that go the last thing i wanted to take care of so there were a number of comments about the height of these buildings and the issues that those could cause so generally around airports there are height restrictions and those can go out for miles and miles and miles that said the runways here aren't in configured in a way that i think would cause problems but even at that i am sensitive to the the comments that i received and truthfully i agree it's kind of weird to see these gigantic towers here it's one of my major issues with this particular uh this particular district i wish that you could control the density in uh in the tourism specialization but you can't so that said we're just going to eliminate it here we will pretend that there are some hotels here and uh that will have to be good enough so a big mulligan here and so this was called the mulligan district truthfully that's a very fitting name so we might just leave that so all right to start out we're going to pause this because we're going to have a whole bunch of destruction as we go through this we're going to start out i want to eliminate a whole bunch of these rail lines oh i didn't mean to get rid of that one oh we're gonna go underground and eliminate some of the stuff down there too so the idea here is i'm going to dramatically simplify this we're going to take this from being you know pretty pretty overbuilt network simplified into something that makes a little bit more sense now i want to start with this because we're going to also be doing some work on the highway here and this is going to to really have a significant impact on what happens here so i am going to take this back we will rebuild that in a little bit so in anticipation of some of the highway work that we're gonna be doing there's this little segment that's ground level we're gonna eliminate that entirely and eliminate this hill so i wanna snake sunset through here and i know that we just did some of this stuff and it's unfortunate but we're gonna call it mulligan on this hill that's one of those things that uh this maybe is not my finest most realistic moment but this is going to be for the greater good and i think in general city will be better off for it i'm gonna turn all my snap tubes back out i'm gonna pull sunset through here straight on it's not gonna go anywhere just yet not not gonna go anywhere but that's okay so now we've got our highway here and we are going to slowly start to lower this now i'm going to use my normal roads the primary reason for that is that you can control them a little bit better with your snap twos okay i really want these to line up well a lot of what i'm doing right now a lot of what i'm doing right now is actually creating templates roads that i will eventually eliminate but for the time being it's going to be very beneficial was it the same height those are roughly the same okay so what i'm going to do here is get these to be very very even i want these to be absolutely 110 percent the same now this is the kind of project that if if this were going to happen the road would stay open and there would be a staged project that would happen over multiple phases and there'd be a construction plan for each of them and that would make this a very interesting project and you know i know sometimes people will wonder why exactly does it take so long to get a project done this is why there are multiple phases in this project okay so eventually everything that you see right here will be a highway but for the time being it's not and then what we're gonna do is try to to meander this back over and that this is why we're using our freeform tool here it is exceptional and allowing us to do things like meander a road back over okay that is much nicer in my opinion this will work well i wish the slope was just a little bit gentler [Music] oh that's nice that's this is good not not perfect but but pretty darn then you look at it from this way and it's like oh boy this one goes up a little bit higher we're going to try that one final time [Music] okay now that is good enough so we're not gonna we're not gonna let perfect be the enemy a good i'm already seeing myself do it so here we're going to have an interchange so we're going to eliminate this and then the idea will be if we can to reuse this existing highway as one of the legs of the new highway now the problem with this is this some of the curves in this are just a little bit too too tight in fact i'm wondering how much of this is salvageable this part is certainly salvageable but i might want to back this off in fact i'm not sure how much i want to to save we'll give it a shot to start out with the problem is i would love for this to be very very very even and flat so we're going to turn on our topography view so here's our topography yeah we're probably going to change this quite a bit because we are going to do some leveling [Music] so building a highway is one of those reasons that you could see a significant amount of grading done uh it certainly warrants that kind of work so we might just start out and just go a little bit at a time don't worry that i'm using local roads that will uh change over time but for the time being this is perfect we are going to be using a two-lane road for this i don't want to over build this highway so i'm not going to get overly picky about the space so i have one tile space and that's deliberate uh eventually i'd love to landscape down the center of here so that the view you get on the highway would feel very tropical so part of me doesn't love that i've paused the game right now i know how necessary it is uh it certainly is one of those things that i think that the departments of transportation wish that they had the luxury of doing you know if they could pause the game they'd be in a in a pretty good spot talking to people about their projects but certainly not not reasonable but it is a game so we're gonna take all of our advantages you start to see this perfect highway starting to form we're going to have to come up with a number of interchanges so this is going to be an interchange this will be an interchange we're gonna have to have our rail network going along the side of here that that's a good reminder for me i need to leave enough space to have our our cargo right on the side so i'm thinking i want to keep the cargo on the outside the passenger is going to continue to go through the city so actually maybe i will keep that on the outside and then we can send that through so while we're doing this let's also plan for that cargo so i'm going to use my my uh straight stretches to really do a lot of the planning because then i can use my freeform tool and the curvy stretches and get a nice perfect connection through here look at that just perfect love that oh there's a foul we're gonna take that out we don't really have an option there unfortunately so here's we're gonna branch off and so what we'll do that in a little while we're also going to have to have a connection over here so we're probably going to have two connections one that goes over and one that goes across or one that goes at the one that kind of follows they'll merge right here so this is going to be a really interesting connection i guess we could try no we're not even we're not going to even try that we could try to run something underneath here oh my goodness it is possible you know what that'll be a placeholder we're gonna we're gonna get to that so you never know let's get back to our highway though so gran again we're gonna be grading first i'm kind of curious we need to keep an eye on our soil availability i'm actually not all that concerned i think that we're going to be okay through this i'm i'm probably more concerned that we're gonna have too much i'm gonna have to dump it into the ocean so not ideal there so this goes up quite a ways i think i might reorient this and keep this further down so i should take a look at the topographic line that i can keep it onto this one right here okay so i tried to use the slope feature and i think i actually got it look at that nice gentle slope i followed the instructions oh my goodness that is nice that is very nice okay so now we are going to try to snake this up we're gonna have to extend this out just a little bit and we'll do some smoothing after the fact to get this right so back to our topographic view because today that is where we live we are respecting the topography and then straight up the side of the hill then again we're going to use we'll find the end of this straight segment and use that as our guide and that's where we connect up still perfect so we're getting a ways over now that i don't love and on a high weight you want all of your turns to be as gradual as they can be to maintain that speed the faster the turn the more unsafe it is so on a high-speed motorway you'd want to make sure that you are as absolutely confident or confident i guess you want to be confident too when you're engineering you want to make sure that uh you are really being gentle with these with these uh these slopes and turns so we're gonna have another interchange right here so you start to see that now all of these random junctions that we had are gonna turn into interchanges and that's gonna really improve traffic flow so the interesting thing about this is we haven't really had many interchanges through verde beach until now so this project though it's probably very controversial is going to provide a really nice route through and around the city if you were trying to get deep into in deep into the downtown area or anywhere around there so i'm gonna go ahead and just start eliminating this road pretty significantly because we need to flatten a lot of land [Music] oh in our soil we are totally running into soil issues now so the way that i think that i'm gonna compensate for this so we are gonna eliminate this we'll back this up and i'm gonna do some filling down the line so we're gonna slope down into this area gently so let's pay attention again to our contours and you see that we're right below the green contour line so i think we're gonna do understanding this we're just gonna fill in here a bit [Music] oops didn't want to go into districts wanted to go into terrain height where we can again start to dump some of the soil because we have a lot of it and i wish that these weren't defaulting to be on top of one another but they are so we're just gonna have to deal with that a little bit now we need to unload soil so what we're gonna do [Music] is find a place in the ocean that needs soil and we're just going to dump it i don't want to get rid of all of it because this isn't going to be perfectly even we're going to be filling and leveling and doing lots of things all at once and we might have to again jump into the ocean so i am going to leave a little bit of a berm here in fact that might be a way that i could get rid of some of this would be to burn the the highway back behind this area and that'll mitigate some of the sound that you would you would see it would be problematic and we will gently make this a little bit more gentle in the future but for the time being i am totally fine with what it's doing now again we do have to make space for our rail so let's again make some space now here is where i use this plateau tool so i will again come up here and do it wrong so now this is not a difficult tool to use once you figure it out but it is it's certainly probably been the most problematic tool for me so the sloping tool i really want to thank everyone that is has helped with this in the comments it's been a wonderful help and i am very glad that i know how to use the tool now okay so we're gonna continue to make way for the train and you see that right here it's not perfect so we're not going to do it so let's uh again level look at that i got it i got it there we go i'm very happy so again we go till we get to that straight segment oh kidding we're gonna find that straight segment and again use that as our guide and then use our freeform tool again to make that connection you can just see the logic in this compared to what we had before and once we smooth this out this is going to be gorgeous this is going to be absolutely wonderful all right so again let's get our freeway going and i do want to turn this pretty quickly to give space to our other roads this is a slow and kind of tedious process but this is the kind of project that i would imagine would take the city years and you know there's there's something kind of ironic going on right here normally i just burn through time in this game and today it's gonna be paused so people are just gonna wake up and there's gonna be this beautiful new highway i guess as beautiful as a highway can be this will be it and now we can go through here do our smoothing and the nice thing is we're at the same terrain height for almost all of this so most of this is going to be just making sure that there's enough room for two roads and a train track so i am lowering the level of my berm as i come out here probably not so important to berm over here near the industrial area so we are going to leave it there and get this going [Music] again i'm going to keep alternating back and forth i don't want to lose track of where those turns are and i feel like it's pretty easy to do that the other thing is i didn't leave enough space and you can you can see that now i'm going to run into some issues with heights that is exactly what i wanted to avoid unfortunately i did not boy this is a really steep cliff so you see this on highways though sometimes where you can tell that they blasted to make room for the highway and any support infrastructure and i would imagine that that is what's happened here you can imagine uh the lewis company being very supportive of this project the drake family all of the families that have invested their life's work and savings into making verde beach what it is you can imagine that they would be very supportive of a project that would really modernize the city's infrastructure like this so you can see our berm is doing a bit to kind of mess up our roadway heights you can even see it here so we're gonna have to go through and i might just start dumping into the ocean again you see i tried to get cute there it didn't work i was trying to be fancy and show off my crazy skills of being able to to not move the camera and that doesn't always work all right so again back to the ocean find some low points and we can dump soil with the best of them [Music] okay very good so we're back more soil work more grading so soil is such a nuisance in big projects figuring out a place to put it so you either have one or two problems you got a bunch of soil you don't know what to do with because let's say you dug like a big detention basin what do you do with all that soil well you might advertise it in the community you want to uh need any soil for your backyard we got some or you start to call everyone under the sun in the development community and say are you trying to level a pattern on a building site we've got some free uh soil that you can use because it is expensive i mean soil is is costly it's all right i've i put this through here i'm gonna try to put my my middle road through and i want to try to get this all the way through here if i can kidding that's really foolish just go in stages keep it even i know it's it's so hard i'm as excited as i'm guessing you are to see this thing through okay so this time i used the train to actually set our straight segment i wouldn't advise that truthfully the main reason is you can't see the grid which makes it a little bit more challenging to ensure that you're lining up entirely yeah i really don't like what i did here that was a mistake though we are going to call a mulligan on that railroad track thankfully we've got millions of dollars and money is not a problem in the city right now doesn't mean that it won't be we're certainly we're certainly spending money like we've got an unlimited amount something just got kind of wonky here in general it's moving closer and closer to the road see if we can fix that [Music] so this might be an example of why it's so important to do your straight segments first so you get those straight segments in there and now your curve segments are just a just a piece of cake back to our angle and again that berm all right so again so this is a very very tedious project but oh my goodness is this going to be great when it's done [Music] oh i can see it we're home free and this this is really exciting i uh i'm very very happy that we're finally out of the woods here [Music] oh and look at that just beautiful except for this segment right here that is not beautiful that bugs me we're gonna fix that we're not gonna we spent so much time grading here we're not gonna deal with any imperfection oh look at that yeah that that makes me feel very very pleased so i know that there are going to be segments of this that we have to reorient uh we're gonna have to have flyovers and things like that to be able to get the rail where it needs to be and we're gonna need to make room for interchanges as well but we're home free we're home free for now change of plans so i have this bit of grade change and i have a large bridge structure over here i know that i'm gonna need to bridge over here and we're going to have our interchange right here and what i think we're going to do is eliminate this one and this will be local traffic only and what we're going to do is we'll just have a cloverleaf over here we'll just use one of the defaults i'm not overly picky about that sort of thing um we're going to have plenty of interchanges to make on our own no reason to add additional heartache and work because i know that i'm not the greatest interchange builder in the world i do like building them but uh if you've watched me for any length of time you know that i also make mistakes so what we're gonna do is go ahead just get this going and then we're also going to have one over here we're going to eliminate this situation that we have going on over here so what i think the the purpose or what we're going to try to do today we're not gonna make this a hundred percent right uh we're not gonna it's gonna be 100 fixed but we need to leave it in a place where it's functional [Music] oh and this is not what i wanted to put bummer so i actually so i don't want to extend this across the highway that's that's kind of a nonsensical move so we'll just go with this three-way intersection i know that a lot of people are a little bit triggered by this particular asset the ramps are unnecessarily high you know it makes things a lot easier to use some of these pre-builts and i can get through this and modify it down the line so that's gonna be the game plan is we're not gonna just be okay with the way this works uh or the way it looks over the long haul right now we just need to get things to be in a functional place so do know that i will do something to this in the future because it's kind of a shame that we're going to eliminate the one crazy one that we have and then go ahead and add one back [Laughter] that's uh yeah i i'm cognizant of the disconnect there and in fact this might end up becoming a roundabout where we convert this into keller house i'm gonna back this up and we're gonna have a lot of lane stuff to deal with here i do think that it would make some sense though to think about some of this lane switching right off the bat and these are gonna be the probably the primary movements we're gonna prioritize those with our ramps and that's that's that'll be good enough for us there and yeah we're gonna do some sort of roundabout thing here in the future for the time being we just want this to work so that said this is actually gonna be a two-lane highway so why don't we do that right now and that makes me think the the one lane ramps that we're on here probably good enough so good good to take some time to think about those things as we're going through this because i don't want to overbuild this i kind of hate that three lane is the default because really you don't start seeing three lanes uh really until it's kind of an overbuilt area so or a very large city which don't get me wrong faraday beach is large but this is a kind of a bypass so i don't want to over build this i will match up the the old stuff the last thing i would do is kind of have pinch points in the city this highway right here is one that was designed specifically for the city and i guess with that in mind building it as a two lane makes sense to me but let me know in the comments if you disagree should i have gone three lanes maybe i should have maybe i should have to me it just doesn't make a ton of sense though okay we will get our lanes back in the direction that they should be going we're good there we're not good here we're going to so we have this ramp here i might lean oh this is really broken we're going to eliminate this ramp and that frees up some space here and we're going to have a train intersection here as well so that's going to be an interesting thing that we have to contend with and then here's we're going to kind of get these roads to their eventual locations let's start doing some converting every now and then i just like to to look back to make sure that i'm not making some horrible mistake and converting these all in the wrong direction now i kind of just yeah we'll take a look back here oh this is so uh uh did i get this backwards oh no [Music] i did i got all of these backwards that is a bummer not all of them i guess i i reversed at some point right here so that's the thing is it's uh when you're doing this much highway is that going through and being able to get this right is just be a little bit of a pain that said i will take this pain over the original configuration of the game when this game originally came out if you didn't have a mod you built the road in the wrong direction uh you were just stuck that was that was painful i i remember those days so the thing i i'm not seeing the arrows consistently right now which is driving me nuts and as a result i'm putting some of these backwards right right there i'm seeing it correctly [Music] we finally got that so we're good there we need to finish off a little bit of our rail infrastructure down here and what you see is we have this situation where we probably want to tunnel underneath here or go above truthfully it would have been a lot easier to to put our or to trench this so i think that might be what we do so mulligan there um no i don't know if this is gonna be easier we're gonna try so it's funny i drop one down and i'm underground so we are as low as we can get there so that tells me something so that tells me that i need to be perfectly fine with exactly the route that we were going and that route is we will go up but not that high we'll give that a shot again we're gonna go up three one two three and 12 tiles is kind of the sweet spot where you get your maximum bridge length and then one two three down 12 tiles we're good there and then we're gonna need to turn this that's a bummer mulligan this is a i feel a lot better about what's happening here though than any other time with the rails basically oh that's that's this is doable so what we're going to have here then is a nice gentle slow [Music] so this is going to be more challenging than i thought so i guess let's do the easy part we'll just get this thing down here and now for the hard part which is actually getting this connected so we'll come here there's literally no point for that [Music] i don't know why i was bridging there but i was all right so i want to mirror this track here if i can it's going to be a bit of a trick because this is actually a curve but i was able to now i wish that i could line this up a little better it looks like i'm able to find a pillar point that i can reach right about here so i think i just need to accept it and then go down my 12 tiles and kind of have an ugly junction right there so at this same point we're gonna try to line this up with our other rail heading out of town [Music] i'm gonna have a track that goes right alongside here we'll eliminate a bit of that and use that as our point to merge and there we go and there we go this is to me a much nicer junction ah we spent so much time on topography today i can't i didn't look at the topography i didn't respect it and look what it's done so let's take a look at our topography let's level this out leave the space that we need and then we'll come in here a nice gentle merge that is that is perfect so i think that that's gonna work really well at getting people around the town so we're gonna have a lot of work to do with rail because obviously we have a cargo train station over here that's gonna be totally disconnected we're gonna probably need to decommission that and this land will open up for other uses i'm gonna move that over here so there will have to be another kind of fly fly fly away over here and that's going to be a thing so we'll have to be aware of that and that brings us over here and what i was thinking is once we get to this interchange over here there's no reason why we couldn't you know i'm not even sure if we're gonna have one over here maybe for the time being we just don't so i wanted to find a way to make that work i think that's actually going to end up being more challenging than it's that it's worth so what we're going to do is not try to get cutesy with this and let's focus on getting our rail network straightened out so for the time being we're going to do a lot of elimination okay so we will use our new high speed rail viaduct right here and this will be our cargo rail line so that will this will be a passenger rail line so that's going to work out really well for us uh we're also going to have our our cargo rail right here and that'll also work really well but we're going to reverse the directions so right now we have this going in the wrong direction which means that we have switching occurring which isn't ideal so we're already going to have this passover and that's that's fine in fact i think we're gonna create that now [Music] okay you can see that there's no crossing now so that's a huge help uh really really huge thank you to everyone in the comments who recommended that i think it's an excellent idea and i'm very very happy to implement it in the city oh this is not going to work the way i wanted to i've got to get this over a little bit sooner so we're gonna call a bit of a mulligan here and we will get this come across here okay so now i think i've created a more logical connection here make sure that all of our tracks are in the right direction looks good and then what i think i'll do is probably have some sort of turnaround here as well so i don't think it's necessary but i do like it so we're just gonna have kind of a looping turn around back here [Music] okay so i think out of all the things i do today this will be the most controversial so we will see well i i am i am very curious to see if that is the most controversial but it allows trains to sneak past there then and that's that was ultimately what i hoped for so you could loop back around now this needs to connect up in two directions to this line over here so it actually might have been better to find a way to to connect this over and now i'm regretting this so we're not gonna do this this doesn't make any sense mulligans for days all right so what we're gonna do here first of all this one does make sense so we're gonna bring this down parallel this look at our topography find a nice place to meander up there we go nice gentle connection right there so that is perfect for our cargo line we still need a passenger line we will get that eventually and now we're at least connected there with our cargo with our passenger it's at again focus on getting this that 12 tiles down nice gentle connection and then i want to follow this cargo line as best we can there we go nice connection there so we do have this problem of how to make this connection with our cargo we're gonna figure that out in a bit bluntly not overly enthusiastic about that one i think it's gonna be a bear in fact it is gonna be a bear dude we need to figure this out right now right away pronto and i think maybe the way to figure it out will actually be to bridge right here [Music] not exactly what i was hoping for but we're getting closer this is just one of those episodes just to get it right it takes a little bit longer and i'm very interesting in getting it right so we have a lot of bridges here right now and i want to get away from them if at all possible or at least make them as short as they can be now because we do have a two-way track going here we will once again convert these back to our regular trellis bridges we have that weird issue with the heights so i am going to just kind of extend the height here let's see if that helps that was kind of one of the things that people were guessing is that the reason why these bridges were getting so crazy was because of the height of the water underneath so i want to test that theory let's see what we do yes absolutely right now we're going to take some of that back down there we go that's good so that looks very good so this is going to be a very challenging place to add an interchange we might try something in the future but the time being i think we might just choose where the highway ends and that'll probably be after this interchange we have another issue here with our heights and the timing of this is fine because we are going to need to make our interchange and that is going to be a bit of a trick so let's go ahead and do that now [Music] so i used that little t there so that i can make guidelines to get across the highway [Music] this is certainly ugly i wish that i could make this a little bit better gonna try so these pillars are always a significant limiting factor it may have actually been easier to lift this highway that might be what we do is just raise the highway over the top of this because it's going to be significantly less challenging to do that so we'll go through add this here to that first mark in this road here i'm going to bring this up because our guide [Music] and make that runway connection here [Music] so i realized that these ramps were not even and i really want them to be so i measured a guide road which is a thousand tiles or a thousand dollars thousand money and we're using that to make sure that things are lining up it's not gonna be the fanciest interchange in the world it's going to be the most functional and that's the game plan right now is just it's not even you can already see how it was easier for me to make these bridges here to get across the highway than it was for me to do it with the intersection there right with the with the interchange all right so we're in a good spot there this is gonna be kind of ugly that's okay we will figure this out as we go along at this point i kind of just want to get things running again apparently there's this one spot that's gonna be a problem for us [Music] okay so this will work now there's still some things going on here but that'll do the trick and this is kind of what we're going to do in a number of these locations is create little deviations that will work well to get traffic through [Music] and we're gonna need to do something more to this that's really ugly i don't like it but at this point i just like i said i want to get this functional so from here i might go ahead now we're going to keep this as a highway okay we're good there [Music] now i think our primary concern is going to be getting this connection made here and that's gonna be kind of a bear so ideally i think we would go underneath i don't know how reasonable that's gonna be to do so now the real question is can we make this work so i don't know that we can in any reasonable way this is a really tough spot yeah that's super ugly but it's gonna be hidden underneath the highway yeah i know it won't be [Laughter] we don't know if we can actually get this we're gonna try something but we'll try [Music] yeah that's not going to work this is just such a challenging spot um so what i'm thinking we might do is just take the rail up i don't love this i don't know how reasonable that is but i think it might be what we have to do um this to go so high that's oh this kills me this is this is the one spot the entire episode i've been thinking about how i'm gonna make it work and dreading it because i know that no matter what i do there's gonna be some sort of compromise made because there's a ton of infrastructure here the only other thing i could think of would be to go underground for just a little bit and that again feels really hokey to me not that this is much better [Music] okay so the hardest thing with all of this is to keep it not lumpy and bumpy you really gotta be gentle with your slopes this is bumpy it drives me crazy there's no way to fix this except for being very very very precise with your angles i still might do something more with this in the future but for the time being i do think i'm going to let it go because i want to get this done and this is not going to to help my case right now so that might be another for a different transit episode there's another way to get this through here i'm just not using it so maybe that way is to kind of come underneath the bridge over here that makes that makes way too much sense [Music] in fact yeah we're gonna do that okay this makes so much more sense uh i yeah the only thing i'm regretting now is i probably should have had this on the outside that would have been nice yeah we're gonna one more mull again get this on the outside what is that it's like a random piece of tunnel that that was left behind [Music] okay i'm finally in a happy place with the rail except for this grade and we're gonna just leave it because ultimately we just want this to work right now and this this is where it's gonna it's gonna leave us in a place where everything's working okay so right now i'm gonna have this go into the city right here and then if they prefer to leave you can do that too another this has been something that that people have mentioned in the comments too why am i determining if something at the airport can leave the city or not and that's a fair point i think that there is some logic in allowing outside connections to be made there we go with our passenger and we've got some little segments here we'll make those adjustments and that's good that is good we'll also need to make some adjustments here because i have one ways don't need that good there i don't think i have to do anything over here i think we're good there so oh interest wait no never mind yeah i was thinking at a train station that we don't we're good so got our passenger line coming through here it connects up over here we don't care this one doesn't have outside access cargo lines over here we've got some work to do with our cargo lines but we're in a good spot i think just to get the city running again because i think this is we're in a spot where i want to spend a lot more time on this and i i just need to to call it right now so we're gonna have some some at-grade connections those are can't think of anything less desirable than an at-grade connection like this but we're gonna do it anyway because this is a way that we could leave it in the next episode we'll finish this we're gonna finish this with the city running we're not gonna continue to do what we're doing [Music] and honestly we could have a much better connection across here now oh converted some of the highway it's okay we have a three lane right there anyway that needs to be or two one that needs to be converted to a three [Music] and we're gonna need to do some things over here with fences too set our priority but this is now a local street one more weird oddity i think we can almost run the city oh my goodness we can almost run the city this is such a happy point we're gonna do it let's see what happens so our cargo network is broken right now so these only serve traffic leaving the city they're gonna have to to take plastics for instance from this industry they're gonna have to take the highway so that's not ideal it's going to add a whole bunch of traffic here but we have perfect traffic flow so who cares we're in a we're in a good spot i kind of want to just see how this highway is doing let's follow this vehicle and a vehicle we'll see how it looks so we've certainly got to do a bit of a bit of landscaping some terraforming some grading but you get the idea of of the the purpose of this this is one half of the job we got two more interchanges to do we've got to figure out a way to get our cargo rail to the other side of the highway in at least two other locations and uh you know we've got a little bit more work to do um we've got to take keller house and extend it out to that new interchange i think that we're in a we're in a good spot now i feel like we're moving yeah i don't like that at all it works yeah i don't like it we're moving into a spot that where at least the city is is functioning i'm getting sad frame rates that's okay so one of the mods i might be adding to the city soon is uh potentially a speed adjuster oh we've got signals here we're gonna we're gonna 92 traffic flow that's not right but i appreciate that it believes that that is the case and while this is here let's make sure that we do have our signs right so still free flow movements on the highway we won't have any movements here either free flow to get on we'll have a stop here and there oh yeah well we're gonna have a signal here that's fine um but yeah this will work and then things appear to be functioning appropriately over here all that density is gone oh this is this is gonna be this is gonna be good let's see we have a couple more spots to take a look at i think get over here so are we getting the traffic 81 percent even with these crazy junctions we're we're doing okay clearly these are broken areas 82 really so this this highway is going to be once completed is going to be very very beneficial just in general for regional traffic flow and that's the whole purpose of this we now no longer need this to be the regional artery that it was we need it to really get people uh from point a in the city to point b in in short distances and really focus on connectivity in this area so in the next episode we're going to worry about connectivity we're going to worry about moving this cargo train terminal likely over here and getting connections between the the cargo rail terminals we need it we still need to make another connection um we need to make a connection here kind of looping this back around in fact we might just make that one right now that's not gonna work that's okay so let's let's do it right this is going to be a problem that's not going to work [Laughter] i can see that already oh shoot okay so that hopefully that's enough distance to fit a train through that's it's always kind of the gauge like is it is it a full train length i think we should pause this for one more minute try it one more time maybe that's a little bit better significant amount of grading will be needed to make some of these connections just reasonable um and this is one of them where it's it's pretty ugly oh i broke this okay now we're connected so i'll try to fix this just a little bit because that this is not a place that i can end and feel confident in what i've done i feel very uncomfortable with with what i've done if i leave it like that and leaving the garbage in 5b1c to leave that that was one thing that made me very uncomfortable i kind of started with it and i ended with it too that felt bad um i think i might have made it a little bit better but it was still there so i'm not gonna do that to myself at least i'll uh leave myself at a place where i can at least go to bed tonight and feel good about myself okay that's ugly but it will work no it's not i've got to get it to be a little bit nicer there we go so the idea is now if you had oil in this area you know i could have tried to to make this loop back around this will also do the trick loop back around and you'll be able to get the oil to the factory that needs plastics for instance over near the lewis lumber company so i know that there is there are plastic needed down here when i was kind of zooming around the city i can't recall so over here the printing press needs plastics and it wasn't coming over here and part of that was everything happening over here so this should help see traffic flow 80 percent this should improve things over here one thing i'm noticing that makes me really happy is let's let's speed this up i want to see if our trains back up because that's been a constant issue in verde beach ever since we made these adjustments you can see that by having bi-directional traffic on these rail lines it appears that we've we've remedied some of the the issues that we have here we do have our passenger train going down the passenger track which will come up over here we still do have some cargo train traffic down coming down here and that's because we still have two terminals on this network we'll fix that we're gonna we're gonna get that we'll get that cleaned up and eventually this won't come through here truthfully we could do some of that right now if we really wanted to by eliminating this we're gonna still need to find another way to make our passenger connection over here and that might be it something for another episode because i think we're gonna leave it here today i think that we've done some important things there's always room for improvement like this we're gonna need to go all the way along the highway smooth things out or burn that is again not something for today that's a significant project and that might be good for a live stream because that's going to take me probably a couple of hours truthfully to be able to to get this detailed and get these grades fixed i know that it's been a comment that i don't like cliffs i don't i think that we could do better than the cliff so uh in that particular location i don't love it again interchanges necessary lots of things to do so thank you so much for
