[Music] somebody y'all like maybe I should just wait on God I'm waiting on you [Applause] [Music] or imagine you can give the grace of God because you've been forgiven am I talking to anybody in here it is an honor to be with you guys and I'm excited I'm excited for a couple of reasons number one I'm excited for your generation because I believe that you represent God's very best effort at winning your generation you guys represent I believe one of the last moments of supernatural authority that we're going to see because society is rapidly declining and so moments like this where a generation can come together across multiple campuses declaring one name one faith one Lord one baptism and then to look at the mosaic the beautiful tapestry of humanity that's in front of me to see people from different backgrounds this is the future of the church you are the future of the church and so I'm rocking I'm rocking here's the thing about it Jersey you don't get a Jersey unless you're on the squad and so what God has done by the blood of Jesus is he's put us all on the same team and so it doesn't matter how much I have or didn't have or what my family structure is or is not or the areas of deficit God has given us starters Jersey to represent his name in the earth so that should give you immediate value and if anybody doesn't know your value let them know who you start for let them know what team you're on let them know the power of the God that you serve all right I want to pray and then I'm gonna get into this word God has given me something to share lord I thank you for these young people I thank you for this moment in time and I pray that it will be beneficial that these young people will be closer to you than they were when this moment first began I pray that revival will break out not in buildings but in high schools middle schools at lunch tables out in the grass because these kids are day Lord they eat lunch in the grass Jesus I pray that their social media accounts will be peppered with words of salt and light in words of grace and peace and I thank you for this church and for these leaders and I pray that this movement shakes the daggone nation this is my prayer in Jesus name Amen amen if you'll do me a favor write this down or if you'll go to second Chronicles 34 second chronicles 34 and what I want to share something that the Lord has put on my heart I believe is representative of what I believe God wants to see happen with middle schoolers high schoolers for the youth of this generation and it's important for you before I go into second chronicles 34 is to understand the times you've got to know what season you're in in order to understand the calling you're called to live out so understanding the season that you're in will give you context for what you're called to live out okay and so first of all we're not in peacetime we're in wartime what I mean by that is the spiritual warfare has ramped up in the last few years right now in our nation we are struggling with many things that we thought we were free from there's more tension in our nation now than at any point since the 1960s and isn't it strange and beautiful that your generation has been tasked with being agents of healing not just for the church but for the nation so we're not called to get comfortable within the construct and the confines of these four walls what you get here today you need to take that out and it needs to become something that allows you to become the hands and feet of Jesus to your peer group so if you're on a cheerleading squad the cheerleading squad needs to have a different texture because you're there if you're on a part of a sports team then the texture needs to change because you're there if you are on the app development side or if you're on chess squad or you know whatever it it changes the dynamics of the group changed because you are there and because you are there you are the the hands and feet of a Savior that's trying to reach a very cynical but brilliant generation a couple things I know about your generation you are the most brilliant generation the world has ever seen you are also the most distracted generation the world has ever seen social media and apps and games and the entertainment culture has shifted when I was your age we had three channels on TV believe it or not TV used to go off at night like turn off there was no programming it would just be snow like if you get a bad Channel some of y'all don't even realize this there were actually TVs with no remote controls many many years ago and so it's funny to me that none of y'all know what I'm talking about that's how old I am but so much has changed and you're constantly bombarded by information you're constantly inundated with ideas versus ideals because sometimes the wrong idea gets planted in your mind and that idea is opposite of the ideal that God wants you to grab ahold of and the ideas always rooted in identity and until you know who you are you will not function in maximum capacity the greatest attack on your generation is the attack of identity and it is the same attack that Satan brought against Jesus when Jesus first came on the ministry scene at 30 years old after coming out from being baptized he was led up by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil and the first thing the devil says is if you are the son of God if and this is a question I want to posting you I want you to write it down and I want you to be able to look at it every day until you know the answer do you know who you are because if you don't know who you are the enemy will define you for you you do not want the enemy to attempt to define you you better know who you are your friends must not define you your deficiencies must not define you your mistakes cannot define you the broken moments of your life cannot define you what defines you is the blood of Jesus that has redeemed you that is healed you that it frees you that has restored you this is the power of our faith and I will not be defined by the worst moments of my life because it's already under the blood and what happens in the middle is inconsequential to how it ends because Jesus is the author and finisher of my faith so anything in the middle can be worked out the devil can read my story but he can't write my story yeah [Applause] and so I want you to understand that we are in war time there's heavy warfare against the church against people of faith the idea of faith is becoming a dinosaur to your generation according to some of the latest research polls your generation will be the first generation in the history of this nation where less of your generation will believe in God than more than more but I believe that that can change and if you don't believe that that can change that's why God sent me I need you to say whatever they were projecting did not factor in the Holy Ghost because the Holy Spirit empowers you to express your faith in a way that is impactful and non-creepy there's nothing worse than young creepy Christians please if y'all gonna represent Jesus please don't be creepy with your friends like excuse me do you like to know the free part of your sins this Jesus died for you it's like to come to church with me don't be a weirdo all right offer him some food talk about faith talk about sports and let it be an organic part of a friendship every time that Jesus encountered someone who didn't know who he was or what he carried he always started with honor and if you're gonna win your generation it needs to start with honor don't talk down to your friends don't be like I know Jesus too bad you know you've already lost them start with honor elevate them beyond what they see in themselves speak life to your generation speak life to your friends because you be surprised how many people are broken and hurting because of the words that are being spoken into their ears every single day I feel the Holy Ghost in here and so you are not in peacetime you are in wartime and the warfare is very significant for faith for for for for a a a hungry devotion this this driving thing that says I am running after Jesus no matter what anyone else is doing what you represent is God saying I do have a remnant I do have some young people yeah I got some 14-year olds I got some 15-year olds I got some seventeen year olds everybody's not doing everything that everyone else is doing and even if they do make mistakes cuz we all do they know the power of the blood and they know that the relationship with God is not fragile it's blood strong what we need is a generation that is unwilling to compromise their faith for popularity what we need is a generation that is willing to outline your faith not by the words you speak but the life you live because right now your friends don't want to hear a sermon they need to see a sermon [Applause] your life is the sermon they're gonna read they may not come into this building but they'll watch your life right Jesus says in Matthew 24 he says in the last days there's going to be Wars rumors of wars nation against nation Kingdom against Kingdom pestilences in various places but see to it that you are not alarmed for the end is not yet tell somebody not yet I believe that you are the not-yet generation as bad as it's getting as bad as the tension is globally the signs and the heavens all of the different things that are happening earthquakes and storms and hurricane after hurricane after hurricane it's as if God is trying to get our attention and the Bible says in Romans 8 18 and 19 for I consider that the sufferings of this present age are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us for the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits the revealing of the sons of God the earth is waiting for your generation to step up and to take their rightful position and to say I serve Jesus I make no apologies about it yes I love him yes he's my Savior yes he's the way the truth and the life [Applause] Matthew 24 makes it clear that things are going to get worse but we are not to be moved tell somebody not yet we are the generation you are the generation that God is positioning when all the chaos breaks out you know what people are gonna look for the person that's most calm why are you so calm with everything going on because I have an anchor that's not rooted in circumstance I am NOT moved by what I see I'm moved by who I know and because I know who I serve and I know what my purpose is I am not moved by anything else when storms hit you don't see trees packing up especially if they're rooted a little help me Holy Ghost this is a time for you as young people in this church to stay rooted to stay rooted in your local church your local campus whichever campus is the campus you are connected to to be plugged into your campus pastors to your youth leaders to your youth groups to make sure that you're encouraging one another y'all text means all day text a word from God send somebody something that lets them know they've got a purpose in heaven and when the Holy Spirit speaks to you and says send that right away do it because you don't know if the person you're sending it to is battling depression in that moment or if they've just been broken by a relationship decision I need you to be so sensitive to God that you are being the hands and feet of Jesus to the people that are in your peer group Jesus is looking for somebody to step up to the plate I believe I'm talking to leaders today all across multiple campuses I'm talking to leaders and here I'm talking to leaders and what makes a leader for your generation because of what you need I'm speaking to your generation you need to speak from your generation see I am now a father I'm a husband I've got two small children I've got a five-year-old and a four-year-old I'm sowing seeds into their spirit right now when my children pray they're praying things that I prayed over them for the last couple years i heerd them God I want to thank you Jesus thank you bless bless mommy bless daddy give us peace give us rest give us joy God cover the earth bless the people of the earth cover grandma and poppy and my mom and God heals such-and-such and they'll pray for different things and then they'll still be kids and legging Lord bless Mickey Mouse like perfect that's so random but you're gonna be speaking in the Holy Ghost in a minute if you I keep praying my point is this they didn't lose their innocence or their youth because I'm sowing seed I don't expect them to be where I am because I'm 40 years in front of them any more than I expect you to understand and really fully engage everything that I do right now because I'm really speaking to your generation but you'll be speaking from your generation I have authority because I've walked this thing out and I'm looking back but once I speak it you'll be able to walk it out looking forward there's a power in what's happening here it's a transfer and I want you to grab this because your generation is what I believe got was speaking prophetically about in second chronicles 34 second chronicles 34 says this and I'm reading from the New King James Version Josiah was eight years old when he became King and he reigned 31 years in Jerusalem and he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord walked in the ways of his father David he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left for in the eighth year of his reign this is critical washes while he was still young he began to seek the god of his father David and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places the wooden images the carved images and the molded images Josiah was eight years old when he became King and he reigned 31 years in Jerusalem and he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and he walked in the ways of his father David not turning aside to the right or to the left and in the eighth year of his reign while he was still young he began to seek the god of his father David the title of this message is a Josiah generation a Josiah generation I believe you all are Josiah generation this story centers around the coronation of a king an unexpected coronation a turn of events that on its face looked tragic but it turned out to be serendipitous for the nation that he came from Josiah was the son of a young man named Iman Iman was 24 when he was killed he had just been on the throne a couple of years but the Bible says he was a wicked King he wasn't a good man and so God removed him and his successor was eight years old Josiah eight years old and now you're the king of a nation eight years old you are in the third grade still picking boogers you know a third grader is running a nation that says he became King and he reigned 31 years why did I bring out this obscure King that has a few scriptures written about him because it says and in the eighth year of his reign while he was still young he began to seek the God of his father David there's something significant about this passage because he did not ask to be king he was born he was born royal you need to write this down the title that's been given to you is not one that you made yourself you were born with it you have in your DNA a supernatural touch of God that is so significant that no one else on the earth will ever be able to do what you can do you are so profoundly and intricately detailed created fashioned for this generation that no one else in the history of time could be you but you this thumbprint your thumbprint has never been seen in the earth and it will never be seen again I need you to leave your mark write that down I need you to leave your mark do not leave the earth the same way you found it I need you to wreck stuff tear stuff up break down strongholds declare the word of the Lord live an outrageously faithful life go crazy believe God for Supernatural things walk down the hall and quietly pray but then don't just pray study and get straight A's so you have credibility with people that don't believe in God so be brilliant in science class and filled with the Holy Ghost to it's not enough just to sing the songs of the church because your generation needs to be not just spiritually gifted but practically relevant you have to be practically relevant Josiah was a king but he was also a leader but something on the inside of him motivated him he came from tragic circumstances his father was not there to raise him but he had a mother and his mom made sure that he had some firm foundation and my prayer for you is that you will identify the seeds that have been sown whether by a parent grandparent or a loved one that have brought you here today I hesitate to think that you all were just kind of came out of nowhere like I'm gonna try that church over there with the man with the muscles and the cool hair and the long beard this is a legacy in motion this generation what this movement is is a legacy in motion it didn't start with you and if you live your life right it won't end with you I feel the Holy Ghost in here I said it didn't start with you and if you do your life right it won't end with you because what's in you is so vast that God's gonna have to cause you to pass it down to the next generation but it's your turn now and we can't wait till you get dirty to understand what you carry I don't need you at 45 talking about I'm ready no I need you ready at 9:00 I need you ready at 12:00 I need you praying with power and with conviction at 14 as if you were 34 years old because what you do at 14 affects your 34 I need you to worship now like you're sowing seeds into your destiny before they start worship be at the edge of the platform while they're still tuning guitars you're already up there like that's up that's a little extreme where we're in extreme times what we don't need is a casual generation what we don't need is a relaxed generation what we don't need is a snack food calorie fat generation that's not functioning in the power that you were called to walk in I need y'all to be on fire so when my kids are growing up they can look and see someone young who's serving God and let me help you to understand Josiah was a king which means he had people around him protecting him from things what the Holy Spirit functions in your life as is a protector right now for you as a teenager and soon-to-be young adult middle school high schooler I'm sure there are times that your faith will frustrate you because the truth is there are a lot of things that you may want to do that because of your faith you're compelled not to do you make a different choice let me help you to understand so that you don't get frustrated all the time because there were times when my mother wouldn't let me go to a certain party or hang out with certain people I'm like mom come on everybody else is spending the night tonight I don't know them people I don't know they mama I don't know who's coming over there I don't know who's gonna sneak in at 3:00 in the morning I don't know what's going on do they love Jesus well I don't know him if I don't know him you're not going you know and thank God that you have parents that care enough not to let you do whatever you want to do [Applause] so my mother would cover me and what the Holy Spirit does is he's been covering many of you because the greatest challenge to you walking out your faith is your peer group the people you're around and the things that you do and so there's this this moment where you'll be like God I love you but I just want to go hang out and I just want to kick it and everybody else is partying I mean I don't have to do what they're doing they might smoke weed I'm not gonna smoke it but can I go and I just sniff it no yeah no okay contact okay never mind all right and God is not keeping you from a thing he's keeping you forth in I [Applause] need you to I need you to grab that the things that look in Tison God's not keeping you from it he's not angry like hey I don't want you doing that cuz that's fun I want you to be at home and be boring and weird and creepy and look out the window and cry and be depressed know what he's saying is what's on you was so valuable that I have to preserve you I bought my wife an upgraded ring will be married seven years in December that woman has given me two children inside of 11 months and so our children are 11 months apart so she was literally pregnant for two straight years and so the the changes and challenges that happen for a woman when she gives birth is enough for any husband to give honor so I got her a fat ring you understand me like it hurt me to swipe the card Jesus out him like it like that but she had she had given me something of such great substance because of her I have a legacy now I've got a son who carries my name so the microphones that I have are no longer microphones their batons because one day I'll pass at the time I've got a daughter she's a dancer and a and an ice skater we live in the suburbs so she skates you know what I'm saying and and so I wanted to give my wife a ring that was reflective of the value that she brought to me you won't see that rock on a lot of people because they're rare and this is what I'm getting ready to say and I know you can't shout like you want to because we got the cameras and you can't jump up and down but the reason why God has not allowed you to enter certain relationships and hang out in certain environments and be with certain people is because what's on you is too valuable to be taken common and that which is rare is inherently valuable you're not being hidden because God's ashamed of you you've been hidden because he is preparing you he is preserving you because what is in you is so valuable that it cannot be tainted by casual relationships and surface friendships you are a Josiah generation you are royal by nature you are phenomenal by default it runs in your bloodline you are unstoppable there's no body like you Josiah was eight years old when he became King and then the Bible says in the eighth year of his reign while he was still young he began to seek the God of his father David what's 8 plus 8 so when everybody else is trying to drive and hang out and date girls Josiah a king a leader who was thrust into leadership sooner than anyone would have anticipated said if I'm going to Stuart what I've been given properly I need to make a personal decision to go after God for myself now I know we come many of us from a legacy of faith and I'm grateful for the prayers of your mom and your dad and your your aunts and uncles and passions and leaders but there will come a time and I believe it's upon you now that you cannot rent the faith of your parents you're gonna have to purchase your own you're gonna have to make a decision right now as a young person to say I'm going after God in a way that is relevant to me in a way that is organic to me in a way that is authentic to me relevant organic and authentic how I go after God may not be how you go after God and that's okay as long as we're both going after God okay my expression and worship may not be yours I'm a little bit more demonstrative maybe you're more contemplative and you sit and maybe tears quietly roll down your face we might be going after God in different ways that's the same Jesus same holy spirit reaching us in different ways so instead of trying to figure out what you're doing I'm gonna focus on how I need to go after God it says in the eighth year of his reign he began to seek the god of his father David what's funny is that we know from Scripture Josiah's father was not David was a man named Amon but Josiah was a descendant of David which means the Bible identified the character of David with the young man Josiah and I know there's things in your bloodline that you may not be proud of proclivities and addictions and things and our families have secrets and we all got that one family member that's crazy then nobody wants to talk about and if you don't know who it is it's probably you but God said I will not allow you or your family to be defined by the brokenness of the past Josiah said my father was not a good man but what plagued him doesn't have to plague me you might have come from not the best circumstances but God is able to redeem any situation personal responsibility another word for holiness people that you need to be holy what it just means is I'm gonna take personal responsibility I'm going to make decisions that honor God if nobody else honors god I'm going to honor God Josiah was in a time of corruption he made a decision as a young man I'm gonna serve God at 16 he began to seek the God of his father David so everybody else is living how they want here's a 16 year old said God you've made me king of a nation I need wisdom I need discernment you need to teach me how to be a leader I'm gonna need more patience I need grace I need you to help me to build the right team I need the right people around and the things that he asked are the things you need to ask God if you have chosen me for such a time as this then give me the wisdom to know who I should connect to the level of relationships and friendships how to properly position my emotions so that I don't prematurely become involved with people on a level that is not necessarily reflective of where I am in my life if you are 15 you do not need to be booed up with a boyfriend or a girlfriend you need to be focusing on school and the things of the kingdom because the truth is you can't really mete out or manufacture or or deal with the the unintended consequences of premature intimacy you got to be wise can't be up in the basement with the red light on watching Netflix and y'all 15 your hormones gonna start tripping my mind's telling me no tell somebody be wise the Bible says Josiah began to seek the god of his father David what he said is even though my dad wasn't on fire for God I come from a legacy somebody was on fire for God and I want to rekindle that fire right down rekindle the fire every now and then as a young person your faith will be tested circumstances happen the process of development and maturity for your age group all the things that happen from acne to hormones to you know all of the different desires and the awakening of every aspect of your human it happens right here right now but the reality of that is those things do not have to define you they can be a component of you but if you go after God he will teach you how to properly position each area of your life so that none of them dominate you but you dominate them I'm not gonna be defined by my appetites I won't be defined by that my passions okay I'm going to I'm going to set boundaries for the things in my life okay and so Josiah was going and seeking the God of his father David so what do we know about David we know a couple things about David we know he was a worshipper I'm getting ready to go somewhere he was a worshipper and he was a warrior yeah he was what we need your generation to do is to wake up and understand the nature of the warfare that you're in it is a spiritual war and your weapons the weapons of your warfare not carnal but they are mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds which means that you need to prepare your mind that when you're in worship you're actually creating an atmosphere for God to seed something in you for someone else when you're in worship is not just I like the song it's God I'm open to whatever you want to do I'm coming after you with everything I've got o come to the altar fathers are forgiveness but with precious blood of Jesus Christ that's my jam in it amazing that your church is at the forefront of the new sound how do you think God trusts a generation with a sound look Josiah went after the god of his father David we know David was a worshiper and he was a warrior we knew he wrote songs songs are symbolic of sound God is looking for a specific sound from your generation it is not a sound of timidity is that it's not a sound of fear or insecurity it is a sound that says even though I'm 14 I'm coming after you even though I'm 12 I'm gonna be right at this altar every time the doors of this church open I'm gonna be right in here mama dropped me off I don't want to go to the mall I want to go to church why that's a little weird no it's not we voted tomorrow later on but right now I need to feed my spirit because I am called to be an agent of change in a generation that is spiritually stagnant and deficient hallelujah and so he was going after the god of his father David which means he wasn't looking for acceptance from his peer group he wasn't interested in the applause of some he was interested in the applause of one this is where you'll find strengthen your identity when you're not waiting on other people to tell you how great you are now it's nice if people see your value but if they don't if you cultivate your relationship with God he will he will speak a level of value into you not unlike the way he did Jesus the Bible says Jesus did not convince himself to men he did not commit himself he did not give himself to men because he knew what was in man so one day they're gonna cheer you the next day they're gonna try to kill you one Sunday they're screaming Hosanna next week you on the cross so you can't allow people to define you you have to have an internal compass that points you true north back into the presence of the Father so if your peer group doesn't celebrate your faith you're not moved by that your faith is a personal decision so instead of searching for acceptance you need to know just from a foundational place that you are loved and accepted by God you need to write this one down imperfections and all very important too many people think that God is this angry man in heaven waiting for you to mess up so he can throw like a brand new disease onto you so weird what a creepy god I would never serve that God what I know about God is he factored in my humanity when he called me I'm a teenager I'm gonna lust it's what happens I'm gonna struggle it's what happens I might say the wrong thing I might be a little bit slip with the words to my parents it happens but it will not define me and so when you make mistakes don't let the devil whisper into your ear you're disqualified no I didn't even call myself so I can't disqualify me because I didn't make me God made me God chose me God anointed me God's position me God did it the Bible says that at 16 years old he got serious about his relationship with Jesus it's not necessarily a popular thing but we're talking about it thousands of years later that's how relevant he was he wasn't necessarily popular in the moment but he became relevant to generations so the question for you is do you want to be popular do you want to be generationally relevant because you can be popular today and be out of favor tomorrow or you can make legacy decisions now and become relevant for years to come I am going for relevance I'm going for legacy I'm making decisions that will outlast me so the thing about Josiah and I've only got a couple minutes is that he was determined to walk out the process this is the last word I want to leave you with the process the process I don't want you leaving here saying pastor john i really appreciate what you're saying but I don't I don't see royalty in me I don't know how that's going to show up or how's that even gonna manifest I don't know how to apply that yet listen it's the job of the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth including the truth of your own identity and your your instinctive ingrained gifts each one of us has multiple gifts I believe that are designed to complement one another so that souls will be added to the kingdom but there is a process so some of the gifts that are inside of you right now are dormant until the process is complete there are things that you have to learn and experience good and bad and when you've gone through the process then you will get the blessing and the benefit of what it is you carry what we don't need is people who are gifted but not anointed there are some gifted singers but they couldn't they could sing all day but nothing in the heavenlies would change or you could get somebody who maybe doesn't have talent but they've been praying for hours before they got on that mic and when they opened their mouth demon Slee and sickness leaves because they went through a different process process gets to progress [Music] and those who bypass the process dwell in the land of almost almost relevant almost necessary you were almost a game changer but when you stay in process you become relevant you become essential they need you in the room they need you on that team they need you at that college they need you they need you you are a game changer because you followed the process and what process does is it's God's Way of removing the you that would stay if the things around you stayed the same process gets rid of the things you don't need in you the things that you're used to and familiar process moves those things right out of the way by the time God got finished with Josiah and you got to read second chronicles 34 as unbelievable he started tearing down long-held high places which were places where the people of God would go and worship false gods he got so indignant that he dug up old priests that had had led the people astray he he dug up their bones set him on fire and buried him again now you know you on fire when you wake up dead bones and kill him again what he was saying is I'm so disgusted by anybody that would take our people away from our God that I want to make an example to everybody else that we're not going back to business as usual that's a Josiah generation I leave you with these three things the Josiah generation will be marked by three characteristics and these were the three characteristics of Josiah the King Josiah was righteous he was restless and he was relentless Josiah was righteous he was restless and he was relentless he did not stop until the Word of God was established in the nation he was righteous that means he had a heart to do what was right that doesn't mean he was perfect so don't put perfection as a goal we're all we've all already failed so just get perfection out your brain what you need to be excited about is that righteousness doesn't come from you or I it comes from the Holy Spirit that's been given to us through the blood of Jesus we've been made righteous by the finished work of Jesus so I come in righteous I might be broken but I'm righteous I may have failed but I'm righteous yeah I know what I used to do but I'm still righteous I've been made righteous by the blood of Jesus say what you want about me I'm righteous I'm Restless and I'm relentless relentless means I'm not gonna stop can't stop won't stop I need you to get relentless to go after the things that God has put in your heart I want you to get relentless about the calling on your life I want you to become relentless about the purpose that you are called to possess I want you to become relentless about winning souls I want to be relentless about staying connected in community so critical all these beautiful campuses stay connected you're doing life together we're a part of the kingdom of God there is no greater calling in the world you could go work for Apple and Tim Cook right now or the top companies in the world and it would be a step down from winning souls hallelujah so Josiah made sure to be righteous restless and relentless and I want you to pursue something for me as I close do
