tonight I am so excited to be bringing you the word if we have not made yet my name is Devine with Angie and I have the pleasure of being one of your worship leaders but tonight I think we bring you the word and and I'm gonna be really honest with y'all when I when I heard that I was gonna preach I I was very afraid your eye I said no I supposed to tell that she said hey dub eat you gonna be preaching like one of you six and I said no I'm not I'm not gonna be preaching I'm gonna be singing because I was afraid of that I was never gonna be good enough to bring you what I believe God wants to deposit in your hearts tonight but can I be honest as soon as I stepped out onto the stage I feel the spread of the Lord in me rising up and saying but if you are willing can allows you to work tonight and I want you to know you use it if you're willing to let God speak to you he'll do the work at you as well so can we both be in this together I'm afraid you're afraid I'm dreaming okay as you hit on your way back to see she's give someone a high five misty and say that I'm so glad you're here you made the best decision to be here tonight and you know as you guys are hitting back on it just take a moment to say thank you to every single person that's here tonight but also to every single leader that has been able to have an impact on my life I'm not here on my own I'm here because you all have all supported me so well I wanna thank Pastor Steven and Holly for the opportunity to bring the word tonight I don't take it for lightly that five years ago I was watching him on a screen and now fast forward a few years later I have no idea how but I get to spend on the stage as a change to my life and bring a word and and I want you to know that if he can do it for me he can do it for you because anything is possible but also on this thank someone really special to my heart and that's my wife who's sitting in the front row Gina y'all have no idea she's not just fine on the outside she's fine on the inside - come on babe I'm so glad God gave you to me and I know that even if all of this disappears because I hope you have the greatest gift in the world and I'm so grateful that you're in the front row shouting me down she's heard this message about 17 times but I guarantee you she'll still be the loudest person in this room so I want you to compete with her tonight it's gonna be awesome can we announce the paddle of my sermon for the day can we do that together come on I'm gonna need you guys to be with me okay I need y'all with me turn to the person next to you ever you want to pick oh so you think she's cuter than the pie it's okay it's okay an announcer Tyler my message say this fight the lies fight the lies God we thank you for the amazing moment we're gonna have to give in your prisons we pray right now God that you will just take control of this moment open up our hearts to receive your word it's in your mighty name then we pray and we all say Amen come on we all say Amen thank you so much bad you guys sound amazing didn't don't you guys think it did a great job tonight it's just the beginning I cannot wait to join y'all or we could promise them coming back promise them coming back but tonight we're gonna be spending a lot of time in the Book of Daniel chapter 6 and if you're anything like a Bible story nerd like me your heart really started to beat out of your case because you know that Daniel chapter 6 is the story of Daniel versus the lion Oh Daniel in the lion's den and maybe you're like hey I've never really heard and story can can you can you help me out don't worry I got you back okay I'm gonna give you like a two-minute recap of what happens in the story so the Bible tells us that we have a king by the name of King Darius and he takes over the kingdom and to help him rule he decides to appoint a hundred and twenty officials to help me keep the Kingdom together and out of the 120 officials he picks a good man by the name of Daniel everyone say Daniel let's ride apparently the Bible tells us that Daniel is different from the rest of the men because of his relationship with God pause your relationship with God will make you seem so different from the people around you it's not the clothes that you wear it's not how you try and swag yourself out it's not the words that you say but it's the God inside you who won't make you seem different because Daniel is different he gets haters oh the other hundred twenty officials look at him and go why does the King like you so much there's something about you that's different because we don't understand it we don't like it so they make a plan they decide we are gonna get Daniel killed you thought you guys had haters in middle school I'm sure your haters do it wanna throw stuff at you like talk behind your back yo Daniels haters wanted to get him killed killed people you need to be grateful for your haters because that's a different type of hater right there and so they devised this plan they say okay we're gonna get to the king and we're gonna tell him that in order for him to rule the kingdom better he has to make everyone pray to Him for the next thirty days because they know that Daniel will never exist this rule so they tell the King whoever doesn't believe this rule has to be thrown into the Lions Den pause have you guys ever seen a lion like face-to-face yes know some of y'all okay and you don't plan on it good job don't don't plan on it it's scary okay I'm I'm from South Africa my wife and I have seen lines face-to-face not joking I'm I kid you not for her birthday we went on a trip and I took her and were in the car and she was like babe where are we going and I said um it's a surprise and by the time we got to the place we saw Lions walking around in cages and said she said oh we're just gonna be looking at the lines and I said no no babe we're gonna be getting into the cage with the Lions she said no I'm not you're gonna do it but guess what eventually she didn't it was one of the scariest things we had ever had to face but it's crazy to think about how Daniel is gonna be in that same position as well but there's many things that I fear but lying is probably going the top three things do you guys want to know what number two is you sure you want to know don't laugh okay number two is water I am I am so afraid hey hey guys come on not like like be cool okay the reason why I'm afraid of water it's not because I can't swim I can swim I swim really well in the bathtub I'm like I hit it got my rubber ducky I swim reaiize from even better in the shower but but the thing the reason why I'm so afraid of the water is it's because there's something about being in the ocean with sharks that just freaked me out okay I'm a better runner than I am a swimmer so if I have to choose between a lion and a shark I'm choosing the line because I know I have a better chance of living is anyone else there with me no are y'all a better swimmers okay that's oh there we go my man my man but probably the number one thing that I have been most afraid of my whole life and this is gonna be weird and you're gonna think I'm crazy but it's the Sun the Sun and you like why oh why are you afraid of the Sun well look at me I mean I mean you cannot be as dark as I am and not have had some kind of history with the Sun I mean come on now please be honest don't let the balance on lights fool you people can I can I tell you where this fear came from can can we be real tonight come on are you with me can we be real tonight so I was in I was in the seventh grade and we were out at a school camp and we're all swimming for about for about two to three hours and Carey and Taryn walked up to me they're the coolest girls in school at this time okay and they walk up to me and I'm thinking oh they think I look good and careless Amin says oh my gosh don't need you've got them painted darker so I'm thinking what what do you mean so they cool old it or other friends around hey guys come see come see come look at the Vidan of course all my other friends are white see so this is pretty awkward now I'm the only black guy standing in the circle and I've gotten dark and I look at the V if these stands are in the Sun for another stick and he's gonna be so black he'll disappear at night y'all are laughing right now are you kidding me there we go all right what was that supposed to do it was about 13 years old of course I did the only thing that I knew how feels like I mean that's so funny k I'll be back you got you guys need something to drink even you need something I'm just quickly gonna go inside and I ran inside the house and that began my fear and my fight against the Sun see I truly and honestly believe that if I stayed out it's taking longer then that would change who I was now would become someone that disappeared and I don't I didn't want to do that I don't want to disappear at night so I thought of fighting the Sun and you thinking how do you fight the Sunda people let me tell you if the Sun was out I was inside no matter how hot it was my skin would never see the Sun cuz I weighed tons and tan the blaze in a hundred degree Fahrenheit with her because I was like the Sun is not gonna get me today and I would be indoors so much and my friends would be like why you that weird kid who's always inside I'm like because if I go outside I'm a disappear and some of you I'm sitting there thinking well what's wrong with being inside I bid you get to hang out in the house get a scroll around on your phone be on the internet check out the Instagram be on YouTube play for at night you know what I'm saying that sounds like the good life uh to be honest I don't know if you knew but I'm a little bit older than you I grew up in an age before the internet was so close to you on a cell phone and so what's so hard to be inside when all my friends were being outside it was so hard and why am I telling you a stupid story about me trying to fight the Sun because I want you to see that sometimes your life can change because of a lie that you believe your life can change because of a lie that you believe see I should have been able to look at Tara and Kari and say no you're lying I'm not gonna disappear you're just jealous because your skin will never look like dark mouthful chocolate but I didn't say that because I didn't know I didn't know just waiting right over some of you but that's okay I didn't know but tonight my hope is to help you realize that the that the crease and the things that you believe can drastically change the way that you live so that's why it's important to be here tonight because we live in a world with so many things of screaming for our attention there's so many things that are screaming out saying hey I'm here on cell phones and our tablets and our iPads and everything that we are constantly light up to try and say hey we're here we're here we're here and they're trying to throw things at you but I need you to know that everything that calls up to you isn't good for you you need to be careful of who and what you listen to because the things that you believe can drastically change the way you live and that's why I think I love this story and Daniel chapter six so much because it's not just about how Daniel was in the Lions Den but it's also about how Darius believed the line that completely changed the way his life was and so we jump in tonight's story in Daniel chapter 6 verses 6 to 9 and the scene is this a few of the officials gathered together in front of King Darius to tell him we have a plan we know how to make you rule your kingdom bitter but the honest truth is that they have a live that they're trying to cover up and they trying to trick him into killing Daniel and so let's read that together in verses 6 to 9 it says the Vice regions and governors conspired together and then went to the king and said King Darius live forever we convene your vice regions governors and all your leading officials and have agree that the king should issue the following decree for the next 30 days no one is to pray to any God or mortal except you O king anyone who disobeys you will be thrown into the Lions Den if you this decree Oh King and make it unconditional as if it was written in stone like all the laws of the Medes and Persians and King Darius signed the decree see every time I read these three verses freak out cuz I want to scream out to King Darius bro no don't do it don't believe it they trying to catch you in a lie how can you not stare King Darius look look at him that one dude is a lie he's got the face of a liar don't listen to them but then I remember that the only reason why I know that it's a lies because I know the entire story it's still hard to know and something is a lie when you're in it why because lies don't show up and announce themselves they hide in plain sight behind things that make you think that it's okay right now but at the end of the day and in the long and they're gonna hurt you so badly don't you just wish that there was an app that could always tell when someone was lying huh I mean I mean her life how much would life be so much easier by that don't you think like you're chilling out here you have the F open in your pocket and one of your friends goes up to you is like hey can I borrow you can I can I like Canali in ten bucks for me I promise I'll pay you back pink lie I'm not giving you ten bucks right but does she think it would be so much easier if sitting on your like hey do I look good in these pants do you like these shoes yeah they look good you lying yeah my friend but unfortunately we don't we don't have certain makes our lives so much harder to try and see a lie because they creep in they were hidden in the things that we here and in the things that we see and this is what happens to King Darius he has no idea that he's that he's been caught in a lie because he cannot see it but hopefully tonight we can use King Darius his mistakes to see how lies trying creep into our lives so now can I show you that in the scripture tonight here's the first thing I need you to write down write down all a.l.o.c a group of officials coming approach the King and they say all your leading officials have agreed all of us think that it is right for you to do this we are all doing this everyone is doing this I remember when I was 15 years old and I had two big brains I'm liver and Darren and here's what happened okay Maria and Darren had earrings and I was like man I mean I really need to have earrings so I went back home and but my parents are pastors and I begged him hey mom dad please can I get earrings and they said why and I wasn't gonna tell him because - my friends had them so what did I say because all my friends had him because everyone at school has earrings mom that's why I need earrings - and my mom I love her so much but she looked at me and she said David if everyone and all your friends jumped out of an airplane would you did you mom do the same thing to you well joke's on her because I did jump out of a plane and not all my friends adjust to my friends hey hey no but I what am I trying to get you to see I'm trying to get you to see that said sometimes they were trying to tell me that just because all of your friends are doing it doesn't mean that it's okay for you to do it that's a lie that you need a fight but just because everyone is saying one thing doesn't mean that you have to say the same thing just because all your friends are dressing a certain way doesn't mean that you need to dress a certain way that's the lie not all represent all people in your life but you need to be careful about who you choose to listen to because if King Darius had opened up his eyes if he began account the people that were in the room he would have realized that it's not really all it's a group of him and if he had taken it further if he had looked for the one person that he cared about the most Daniel he would have seen that Daniel wasn't represented in the group which means that it wasn't really all they want son I need you to know right now middle schoolers that sometimes the people that you're so focused on right now don't really represent all the people in your life they represent the people that you're choosing to see be careful what you choose to look at be careful what you choose to believe represents your own because I really do believe that if Daniel was in the room and he said no King I don't agree with this with this decision King Darius would have never gone ahead with the plan why because it's not one it's not everyone that represents all it's one person that can represent you're all and I need you to hear me right now he thinks sometimes we do the same things in our lives we start chasing the opinions of other people our friends the people around us because we think that tears are all that we need to listen to but I came to tell you tonight that is only one person it needs to represent your whole if you put God in the center of all of your decisions if he is your old it doesn't matter what other people believe doesn't matter what other people think have the right all in your life have the right all in your life because God can be all you need in the moments where you feel alone it can be all you need in the time that you don't feel like you're good enough choose to make God your all and whatever anyone else's doesn't matter anymore he is you're all come on say God is my own God is my own come on fight the lie that everyone is you're all that's not true that's not true kids the thinking thing I want you to write down you why oh you see the official hide a lie in the sentence no one should pray to any God or mortal except you no one should pray to any God or mortal except you they wrap up they wrap up the lie that they trying to kill Daniel in this idea that makes King Darius believe that whatever decision he makes the consequences will not affect him they make him think that hey if you make this decision everyone else has to change except for you we need to believe we need to be be careful of the things that we think that we're saying now the words affect us because I need to tell you the truth the consequences might not come immediately but they come eventually consequences of your decisions no matter what you decide good or bad you need to know that there's always consequences you are not the exception to the rule and King Darius will find that out later on in the story when he has to put Daniel in the lion's den to be careful about the things that people say all the things that you think about when you're making your own personal decisions when your relationship with God that you're like hey if I do this it's not gonna pick me I'm okay people will never know I'll be good I know it happens to him but it's not gonna happen to me cuz I'm bitter no you're not exception to the rule consequences might not come immediately but they always come they always come they always come eventually it's kind of like it's kind of like if you were sitting in here right now and you're like I think I'm gonna fart I think I'm gonna do it like no one's gonna know I'm just gonna like lift up my butt cheek just like an inch it's gonna be a silent one and no I don't know how many of you know that even if it doesn't make a sound is the smell that kind of happens and then your whole Road starts do this was it you was it you was it you and then you say it wasn't you but you've got this guilty look on your face music no it wasn't me people like it was you you farted you farted that's the same that's the same way consequences work it's in the moment you think I can get away with it but then you fart and people are all like the quinces and that's exactly what happened some of you is just like this is kind of weird but it's the truth it's the truth consequences always show up even when you don't think they will they always show up because the enemy will try and make you think that you're completely different and he'll try and get you to the place that will trap your own mind state to think that because I am Who I am nothing will happen to me you're trying to make your life all about you point number one was all point number two is you I think here's the biggest lie that they made me we'll try and do you're trying to make you think that your life is all about you to try and get you through the trap that makes you believe that my life and the way I live doesn't matter about what other people think because it's all about me and I think this generation knows that struggles so much more than anyone else because we caught up with our phones in our hands the entire time in selfie mode trying to post stuff all over the internet to try to get other people to think that we're so much better than we really are and so we're running around or like look at me taking the photo right here and we run out here and so we like look at me look at me look at how many cool things I'm doing because we're trying to make sure that the world knows that it's all about me but guess what the more you run around and the more pictures you take it doesn't fulfill the void that's really inside your heart it doesn't and you end up so tired and exhausted because he end up at the end of yourself fight the lie that your life is all about you it's not it's all about what God wants to do in and through your life in the moment you realize that the moment you stop striving in your own ways it's not here to lie your life isn't about you it's about God and how he wants to speak in you and I need you to realize that in order to focus on him sometimes it means taking the camera over yourself and I know it's hard to think about right now he's like man but I look so good and I know you do boo-boo but you're not gonna look so good when you've been trying to place yourself in a relationship you knew you weren't supposed to be in and now you're broken up in your heart is broken and you're crying and now you're like what I do you made it all about you honey be careful what you decide cause consequences might not come immediately but they always come eventually they always come eventually and because King Darius doesn't see these clues he messes it he ends up being caught in a lie but doesn't just change the way that he sees himself but he changes the lives of the people around him King Darius was never meant to be worshipped like God he was always meant to lead but he gets trapped in this idea that it's all about him another decision that he's made is about a costume so much more than he intended fight the light that this life is about you fight that line with everything that you have no matter what people say no matter what people think in verse 14 of chapter 16 Darius is faced with the consequences of his decision we read it together and come upon the screen at this the king was very upset and he tried his best to get Daniel out of the fix he put him in he worked at it the whole day long but then the conspirators were back remember O king it's the law of the Medes and Persians but the Kings decree can never be changed the King caved in and ordered Daniel brought down and thrown into the Lions did what happens when you realize that you believe the line and made a mistake but you can't take it back and change it what do you do when you're in that place and in the moment where you realize oh my goodness I shouldn't have done what I did you should never have thought about what I did what do you do when you feel so trapped by a lie I imagine King Darius sitting there trying to figure out how to save Daniel oh my god I better I should have thought about a what do you do when you feel so chapped by your lie what are you doing you believe the lie that you aren't smart enough and so you cheated on a taste and all your parents found out and now you're sitting in the classroom with your teaching your pants and you're trying to back out what do you do what are you doing you believe the lies and in order to be a part of the cool kids you have to bully one of the kids in your school and now you found out that they started cutting themselves a new field feels so guilty what do you do what do you do when you believe the lie that in order to feel left you had to save some crazy pictures about yourself revealing pictures do that one guy or girl and now they send it to all these frames and as much as them that has about your whole school in stealing these photos around what do you do when you feel trapped by a lie that you never intended to do what do you do King Darius finds himself in the situation and I want to show you what he does because I think there's something that we can learn together about it in verse 16 put it up again it says that the King caved in and ordered Daniel brought down and thrown into the Lions Den but he said to Daniel your God to whom you are so loyal is going to get you out of this he said to Daniel your God to whom you are so loyal to is going to get you out of this wait a minute even though the lies the King Darius believed got Daniel into the lion's den King Darius realized then maybe I can't get him out but there's someone who can - maybe I can't protect him maybe I've done all I can but maybe the way to fight allies to speak the truth of who God really is and so in the moment come on in the moment that Darius realizes that I can't do this on my own he makes it about God can I present to you this business realization that the best way to fight the lies isn't to run away from your consequences the best way for you to fight the lie is you trying to hide behind your mistakes it's to speak the truth of who God really is over the situation that's how you fight the line and King Darius realizes it in this moment and he says maybe maybe the God who you are so loyal to will save you because I can't because I can't and he puts Daniel in the lion's den but he takes his hand over the situation he goes home and he's freaking out he's like oh my gosh what's gonna happen is is that you aren't gonna be okay please God I know I can't do this on my own anymore I know I made a mistake I know I believe the lie was never supposed to but I know for a fact that if you are real if you really exist but you can still step in because that must be the truth of the matter it must be the truth of the matter it must be so the next day King Darius runs out towards the Lions Den and it's screaming out Daniel Daniel Daniel york' his heart is beating see what the day would need to believe that the key that he spoke would come key and how does the time stand he is King Darius King Darius I'm okay King Darius I'm alive King Darius my god saved me my God saved me my God saved me my God saved me I need you to realize tonight you face that no matter what impossible situation your lie has placed you in I know a God who is bigger I know a God who is better I know a God who is stronger I know the God who can do the impossible I know God was right here in this place right now but saying I can still come through I can still set up a lion's mouth I can still deliver you for whatever you're facing no matter what lie you're facing God is bigger he's not afraid he's with you right now and I don't want any lie that you're facing right now to stop you from experiencing that everything he has in store for you over these next three days no no no no no no no no no no he is who he says he is and he says he loves you and he says he's for you and he says he sees you his things I created you I know your mistake but I don't care because I'm better than that even when you're afraid I can be who you need me to be that's the truth you need to fight the lies that you're facing tonight with the truth of who God says he is even in the moments when you don't feel like it's not about what you feel is about what you know it's not about what you feel it's about what you know and I need you to realize the reason why I believe in the so much is because like I said before I was fighting a life just to get up to the stage tonight for so many hours I was freaking out that I was never gonna be good enough so I couldn't do it but here I am because I continue to read God's Word I continue to surround myself with people who encourage me and said I love you you can do this but it's not just about me the reason why believing that so much is because of my little sister I have a younger sister who's eight years younger than me and while she was doing her final year in school she wrote her final exams and I remember her giving me a call on the day that the results came out and I was so excited to hear what she was gonna say to me and as I answered the phone she was in tears on the other side and I was like kids here what's what's going on and she sees davido I failed I'm not gonna be able to graduate I failed what do I do now what am I supposed to do and my heart broke because in that moment I could tell that a lie was beginning to creep into her heart she was Cupid she could never amount to anything and she was never gonna be able to move forward in her life just like her friends she was ashamed but I did the only thing that I thought an older brother could do and I said no kids say you can do this trust me I believe in you you can do this you just have to study so much harder and she said okay w okay I'm gonna do this with the two months I'm gonna lock up I'm gonna lock myself up in the room and I'm gonna I'm gonna study the my was my heart out and she did and two months later she rewrote her exams and the results came out and she called me again and she said that VD I didn't make it what do you do when you get up from one line to try and say the truth of the life that you believe in God has called you to but the results don't show you the same thing what do you do when it seems like the lies are not screaming louder than the truth in your trying to figure out God is is this really who I am because I've tried I've written all these things but I keep on failing what am I supposed to do now but I watch my little sister sit down and say this is not going to find me search for God I see God I don't know what you have plan is for for me but I'm not gonna let this slide dictate the way I live my life I'm gonna keep trying I'm gonna keep striving I'm gonna stay with you where you can want to take me and the reason why I'm telling you the story tonight is because about three weeks ago I got this picture from my little sister she's the one on the left hand side [Applause] he the crazy thing is this he's not just graduating from high school in this picture she's graduating from a degree and being a culinary King not just in South Africa but all over the world she has a piece of paper that says I love my failures I Know Who I am and I want to relate to those today you can do it for her I don't care what my god is bigger
