A horse wreck is a tough way to start the day!

[Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] hey so water is uh i mean you got to have it on these ranches and and you drive along here here's here's a little tank of water obviously a well right here is the well right here no it's all pipeline oh it's all pipes from 20 20 20 miles to the to the west to here really yeah so the babitz it's got 100 miles of pipeline 100 miles of pipeline is it black poly pipeline no most of this is steel but any that's any of the pipeline that's newer this black poly like that line we replaced going up that over that hill yeah that that's black pulley so this comes from 20 miles away it does so do you guys have a it's all gravity flow do you have a pipeline guy that i mean all he does is that's what he does fix his pipeline leaks and stuff and does water and runs the runs the generators and yeah actually the pipeline is in pretty good pretty good shape not a lot of leaks but there are places that it's getting older and then we have to and it's all gravity it gravity flows to here so that's is that a storage tank right there yeah so it just it fills that and then that's that one's actually on a float that's got a float on it yeah it does but we'll go up here and there's a old storage that's 225 000 gallon just right up here in three miles that's where we're headed okay we better get going what's in there what's in that a valve to turn out off and on yeah do these lines ever freeze up are they deep enough that they won't in places like for instance like with water runs across right here and it won't be as covered as much as it should be then it gets cold and if we're not the cattle aren't drinking water yeah then yeah then it can freeze up hey so i don't know if we can see it on the camera but that that little pen right there that's just a just a little working pen just it is we brand them you can grind right there wing in there yeah so we'll cup throw like 300 in there and then we'll brand 100 at a time yeah and yeah or whatever we'll throw some cows in here like if we're gonna move and drop them here and then come back in the afternoon pick them up yeah yeah so it's kind of in the center of the pasture yeah how big is this pasture about 80 sections yeah okay we're putting amy to work she's gonna drive the little ranch truck that i was in and uh vic's gonna take a truck and trailer he was just gonna pick up one of them and and leave the other one here but we said hey we've got three drivers if you want to move all these rigs we can dang sure help you out so that's what we're doing hey so vic's in front of me with the truck and trailer amy's following him with the little ranch truck that we were driving and then i'm uh bringing up the rear with this truck and trailer and we're gonna take these trailers down to where they're gonna put these down in the trap part of the day and then cross under the highway [Music] so [Music] so i've driven by this headquarters ranch headquarters turn off i don't know a jillion times and i've never been back in here we're going into what's called spider web no not that one though one on the other side was a hash knife wagon that was back it was at metzger's for a while but it was one of the wagons that was used on the on the hash knifes back when babbitt's had it so yeah that's pretty cool yeah this is the place this is the place spider web spider web house where's the butt cast right here right here how about the cook cast well it's right there it's right there bunk house yeah that's where the cook stays and that's where everett stays oh yeah and then that's our shop over there when the crew's working it's kind of messy yeah that's all right that's what he needs wow he he works best under when you just come back at him even stronger ed yes yeah so we need we're going to get a little feed in on friday so and we just got three feet enough to load the tubs but when we do you keep all your tubs and everything in there well kind of yeah then you keep it outside another old shop over there we keep haying it yeah we got a bunch of bleachers down there at the arena yeah we just bring them up here and make a little ring and then everybody just fills in there and the mares just come in a pair at a time we sell it and then we just put them out through the round curl so you work all those cattle right here we will that are coming in those come right here yeah will they stay to the night here then um well we got five loads of calves going and then i got the next day i got a load of replacement heifers and three loads of cows going but yes so you'll you strip the calves off tonight or in the morning in the morning in the morning we'll just get them underneath the highway tonight oh they'll just be out they'll just be right in that in that horse pasture yeah that we just drove through yeah so yeah and then we'll just bring them down and strip the calves and um yeah and weigh them and and strip the steers and heifers yeah how much of this was how much of this have you built or was this all pretty much here trails and everything used to be poles when i was a kid it was poles aspen poles just like that last piece right there it was all aspen poles so in the 70s they built the main bunch right here and then we've just added on and kept working but they built the chute and all that and anyway um yeah it must have been about 80 that um my i wasn't here my brother and got my dad to build arena anyway yeah the last piece we built is just right down there it hasn't been painted yet it's off that round grill goes that way oh yeah so anyway what's this down here down there where those bleachers are are there where the shop well where the pieces are that have look like they have some stuff those are bleachers that we bring up here when we have our wholesale oh okay and we just make a semi-circle right here and then the paper will just are there and then we sell the colts and then yeah it's quite the operation so this is this the bunk cask it is worth cowboys what's for dinner tonight um for lunch i'm making um navajo tacos oh yeah check this out pretty good where do you live up up right after okay okay hey so i gotta ask you you're i'm not gonna ask you how old you are but let me get over here so the light you're uh okay you're not that old but you're a long ways away from town does that bother you no not at all not at all i love it yeah getting away from town yeah i don't like town i don't like that not particularly no boyfriends out here yeah okay the boyfriends in town aren't worth getting there you go all right there you go here's all their saddle horses right here they actually just live right here in the uh horse pasture that's where their houses are so all these horses right here right now this time of the year are in this pasture you can see a few of them starting to leave right there and pretty nice horses [Music] [Music] bye [Music] that was fun good people good good people yeah it's good to know a little bit more about the history of babbitt ranch and kind of how they operate and the things that they do and just i don't know a little more about the people okay he took way longer than i wanted to take of his time but i'll tell you what talk about gracious it was fun uh seeing the cook house seeing the saddle house the bunk house meeting everybody and uh eating the cookies that was not the best part but that was a good part yeah what do they say about the way to a man's heart is through a stomach that's most men some women too those were awful good cookies
