Boots O'Neal: The 87-year-old Cowboy

boots O'Neal's been working on horseback since 1949 one of the crew boats is here but he's got a nice ball cap own more than 70 years later he's seen the changes from his traditional cowboy ways they come in of evening they put on clothes I wouldn't even go outside with this phone or their work shoes and caps and and go to town fashion may be different but boots says every decade brings a new change in the 60s Cowboys received vacation time we never had been off before we work Sunday just like Monday you know and they've been doing it ever since brought more money and gooseneck trailers for easier transportation from the 90s into the 2000s boots says the biggest change sound phones which he says have gone too far in the younger generations but make his job a lot easier in the pasture I can call you on the other side if we're looking for a bull and see if you found him now I call you and tell you I've got him located over here come on girls and we do that every day through all the change boots says what it takes to be a good cowboy remains the same good Cowboys pretty good citizen be dedicated be honorable be honest and be straightforward you detail what what kind of feller he is by being around his horses if they're afraid of you or they're hard catch are hard to get old you know well they might not have been treated right boots says the Cowboys that come to the ranch now have more Skills than he remembers he had nobody ever taught me growing up raise your elbow and do the rope did you know I just learned the ropes you know I don't remember having any instructions or careers as a cowboy as dying but forever changing him he's seen it all and after 72 years of feeding calling and writing on the ranch he has no plans to retire I don't hunt and I don't fish and I don't play golf 13 or 14 years old all I've ever wanted to do was punch cows and ride a horse you know and that's about all I've done with senior photo journalist Andrew wood Cathy Carlson Fox 34 News at 9:00
