[Music] alright guys here's our situation we're down to our last 40 acres here this 40 acres was a new piece that we picked up and started renting this year so we've never farmed this before but it didn't get tilled back last fall so it's got a lot of corn stock residue on it this area right here actually got bailed so so this area is nice and dry plus there's a pretty good Hill here but there's kind of a ditch that runs through a lot of this when we get down closer to this ditch where they weren't able to pull the baler through there's kind of a thick mat of corn stock residue here and underneath it we have got mud it is really really sticky really really soft it's June 8th right now and it's been sunny and windy for the last week here for the most part and we've got this issue yet so we're trying to decide what exactly we were going to do with this field we get down in through here and this is not going to work I don't know if we can drive through this with anything we talked about burning the stalks off to let it dry if we try to pull our digger through here it's gonna be really really it's gonna be muddy so we're not sure exactly how to handle this but I got an idea of maybe what we should try so this is a 95 20 Rx with the new vertical tillage tool behind it from John Deere the number on that I think is a 26-6 DBT we did not buy this this is not our rig this actually comes from Midwest machinery and Glenwood they're going to let us demo this for this 40 acres and try this thing out to see if this vertical tillage tool will run through this chop the stalks up and just open up the top of the ground just to allow it to breathe a little bit dry out so that we can get the planter through it my only experience with a Deere RX was about a year and a half ago where I made about five rounds and was but I had to take it about six seven miles down the road and she's smooth okay let's go for a ride I have zero vertical tillage experience but this 2660 I did figure out it does have the adjustments to change the angle of the discs in through here so we'll mess with that a little bit I've got them running pretty straight right now I'll mess with that we've also got the rolling baskets on the back to leave on to leave it a lot smoother so I'm just gonna keep messing around with your see if I can learn some stuff I'm gonna get out and see what kind of job this thing is doing because I'm hoping that we'll just have to run this over and let it dry off before we plant it so I want to make sure that I'm getting a good seed bed I want to look at my depth I want to see how level it's making it and then kind of look at the adjustment of the blades the pitch of the blades to see if I want to go more or less I don't really need to go a lot here I'm really just trying to chop off the residue and open the ground up just a little bit to get it to dry out in this Sun and heat that we've got I did learn on my first time across that I'm gonna have to turn around at that point they're just about pull the Jim sorry Jim I don't know when I look at this this is not a real nice seed bed so I'm not sure if I got a look at turning up the pressure on the rolling baskets or maybe running more angle on the on the disc blades or maybe a little both but I don't want to plant into this okay you can see when I run I draw up number three here you can see the angles of the of the gangs turning that right there should be about Street I'm gonna turn the angle on these up and just see what it does okay you can see I ran through the mud there a little bit didn't look that went right there but I've got a row of disc blades plugged here I'm gonna try to straighten those out and hope that they free up because it wasn't wanting to work out of there so I'm gonna pull the baskets out of the way this is a this is what I was afraid of out here the sticky mud just does not work well with disc blades there it came out took the angle out of the blades it seemed to help okay so I've got it all jammed up again here about a hundred and fifty feet later the only thing I did was add angle to those disk blades so as soon as they got a little angle they plugged up tight and I'm on top of a hill here this is not a wet area this shouldn't be a problem but this is what I was afraid of with this disc this just may not work in this situation here pull the angle out of the disks again [Music] maybe try and backup and get away from that pile that I created I don't see if I can work through it maybe lift the lift the basket up again okay I got too greedy we're just gonna have to let it flow through okay not gonna come out so I have concluded that I can't run much of an angle on those disk gangs which means it's just gonna be cutting I really don't think it's gonna leave a nice seed bed but all I'll jump out take a look at it pretty soon here so it's not working the ground up black at all it's leaving a lot of residue on top which is fine it's just not what we're used to here where we're all conventional tillage but what I'm a little concerned about is the is the way that the blades cut in and they're just chopping they're not actually they're not loosening the soil a lot you can see where the mud is kind of building up inside these disk gangs here that should work itself out now that I've got them free as long as I don't go through much more spots like that but that is what this field is full of well it's muddy everywhere in this field this is a mud fest out here I sure wish this had gotten worked last fall I mean I it's June 8th I'm sitting on top of a Sandy Hill here but there's so many mud spots here I mean this is just what we get it's hot sunny windy staying near the middle of June everything else is in you can see the corn there coming up this is the problem that we seem to have if we don't get our fall tillage done I'm gonna check the job it's doing up on this dry hill where this got bailed there's not nearly the residue here so I can see a lot better what kind of a job it's doing at leveling out the soil it's obviously not having any trouble up here I mean I think this is a little bit rougher here but I honestly think we could no-till this it's not what I'm used to looking at but it might be all right now do I do I know this whole area I tried to turn out around it there's multiple acres here that I can't even I can't even consider setting the thing down in the ground this is very very frustrating guys we got of course rain coming tonight and we're down to our last 40 acres we don't know what to do here there we go again that's with no angle holy cow I better get out of here in my opinion I'm just making a big mess here well I think yeah I think it's gonna get worse if we burn it I think if we well because we're going to get rid of the residue and then we're gonna have to let it dry off if the residues not there we won't ever carryover the wet stuff we've already paid rent on it we've got seed fertilizer and chemical for it we've already got money invested in these acres that we can't plant so it's a predicament all right I tried 500 more feet and have that happen again that's it I'm done like what we're not doing this enough of that once again not even in a spot that was really wet not a spot that should be wet so this is no more I am sure there are places and conditions where this machine does exactly what it's designed to do it probably does it really really well and works awesome but this isn't it we don't have those conditions here at the moment that isn't even a wet spot I'm still stuck in it and I got the implement raised up I'm still in it this is incredible guys we don't have anything close to this I don't know if we're gonna this is we're gonna get the planter stuck everywhere we go in here because you can't see the wet spots Big Bird I'm just driving around here and I just got stuck I wiggled my way out but I was stuck [Music] well that certainly did not go at all the way that I had hope I really believe zero till and cover crops are the way to go I think that's healthier soil cleaner water less erosion I think that's the system that we should all strive to get to but we've all got our own geographies our own soil conditions our own equipment we've got our own challenges and you can see here this is a good example of a challenge that we've got in front of us where I think this is probably going to be an insurance situation again this was a piece of dirt that we rented this year we've never farmed it before it didn't get tilled back last year I wanted to no-till this this was going to be our test and I just don't think that we can do that it's it's June 8th we can't push it back any further here if we've got to get the crop planted at some point we've got everything else in it's a frustrating situation and it is what it is well for those who always ask me why we don't run a disc this is part of the issue here these are packed tight really tight with mud and it's actually bending the scrapers out on a lot of these this one over here it looks like there's only one plugged one but it it's bent that scraper out so that'll have to be a new scrape or put on there on top of that with our rocks if you break one of these in the middle here my understanding is you got to take the whole thing apart well I decided to make a round on the dry hill up here and level out the blades and go shallow and fast to try and get some of that unstuck from in there but it's in there pretty tight I'm guessing this is going to be a hammer and pry bar situations we won't we won't bring it back to our dealer like that will I clear that out of there and and make it right with them that appears to have been completely ineffective I won't knock him he's actually getting work done sure is colorful ugh this morning well an hour and a half later and we've got the mud knocked out of the gangs and Midwest has another customer that wants to try this thing so they can have it like I say I'm sure there's situations where this machine works awesome but today with what we have left is not that situation so we're done fighting with it they can have it we're going to talk to our insurance guy that last 40 acres might just be an insurance situation that just might be our best our best option right now I hate to do it but but hey I apologize I thought this was going to be an awesome video about this new vertical tillage tool and this this big beast of a tractor and it ended up pretty much just being me complaining the whole time I thank you guys for watching and you know you got to see something that was real this is the real deal this is a real farm we actually do this around here that's it have a good one [Music] so after all that frustration dad was kind of wondering you know 20 25 years ago the worst thing in the world that you could do for your soil was run a disc on it creates all kinds of compaction all kinds of issues you don't want to discount in your field now they've slapped a sticker on it that says vertical tillage tool and it's the greatest thing you can do so I thought this would be a good opportunity to offer up our new horizontal tillage tool for sale if you guys are interested shoot me an email and we'll get you hooked up with this thing looks pretty good
