hallelujah praise god the father prays the son and praises spirit three in one o praise him all praise [Music] [Music] hello to all of you at home i am father jerry cawell pastor of sacred heart church and we are the 12 apostles of punta gorda who gather together to pray the liturgy with you and for you to prepare ourselves i invite you to unplug if you can your devices so you will not be disturbed for this sacred time and then holy mother church asks us to be fully present and to be active and conscious for the sacred liturgy and so uh sometimes we might be in the past or we might be thinking about the future and our mind can be involved in a project or something so our hope is to bring the mind and the body and the heart together so to prepare ourselves we take a deep breath in and we breathe out projects and plans and concerns and worries and we become very simple as we present ourselves to have an intimate experience with god let me take a second deep breath and we breathe out allowing a silence to come and give us some refreshment and to give a break to our usually very busy minds and we take a third breath in we sink as deeply as we can into our hearts and now that we are so settled and so centered we begin the holy sacrifice of the mass in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen amen the grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all amen my brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words and what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] glory to god in the highest and on earth we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king oh god almighty father according to god in the highest and on earth [Music] jesus christ only begotten son [Music] lord god of god of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on in the us and on earth [Music] [Music] jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory god [Music] glory to god glory to god [Music] let us pray grant us o lord we pray that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your church may rejoice untroubled in her devotion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen a reading from the book of sirach when a sieve is shaken the husks appear so do one's faults when one speaks as a test of what the potter molds is in the furnace so in tribulation is the test of the just the fruit of a tree shows the care that it has had so too one's speech disclosed the bent of one's mind praise no one before he speaks for it is then that people are tested the word of the lord [Music] lord it is good to give thanks to you lord it is true to give thanks to you it is good to give thanks to the lord to sing praise to your name most high to proclaim your kindness at dawn and your faithfulness throughout the night [Music] [Music] the just one shall flourish like the palm tree like a cedar of lebanon shall he grow [Music] they that are planted in the house of the lord shall flourish in the courts of our god [Music] is good to give thanks to you [Music] a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters when this which is corruptible clothes itself with incorruptibility and this which is mortal close itself in immortality then the word that is written shall come about death is swallowed up in victory where o death is your victory whereo death is your sting the sting of death is sin and the power of sin is the law but thanks be to god who gives us the victory through our lord jesus christ therefore my beloved brothers and sisters be firm and steadfast always fully devoted to the work of the lord knowing that in the lord your labor is never in vain the word of the lord [Music] hallelujah [Music] shine like lights in the world as you hold on to the word of life [Music] [Music] a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you lord jesus told his disciples a parable can a blind person guide a blind person will not both fall into a pit no disciple is superior to the teacher but when fully trained every disciple will be like his teacher why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye but you do not perceive the wooden beam in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me remove that splinter in your eye when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye you hypocrite remember the wooden beam from your eye remove the wooden beam from your eye first and then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye a good tree does not bear rotten fruit nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit for every tree is known by its own fruit for people do not pick figs from thorn bushes nor do they gather grapes from brambles a good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ my dear friends powerful teachings in these scriptures today the first testament as well as the new testament about the power of words and how what comes forth from our lips reveals what's going on in a person's own heart very powerful teachings and i love that the scriptures so often talk about trees and their fruit that good trees that are properly nourished and especially that tree that is planted near the running streams of grace that tree bears beautiful good fruit that nourishes others beautiful and that the leaves stay green and that the goodness there produces the fruit jesus makes this point that from a store of goodness in a person's heart flow words of love life-giving things that we would say but from a store of evil can come words of judgment and hatred and evil he goes so far as to say gee whiz you know can a blind person help a blind person can a person with a beam in his eye uh be prepared to pull a splinter out of his neighbor and he's giving us a really really powerful teaching before i start correcting somebody else let me look within first let me correct what is going on within me first and then i might see clearly to assist a brother or sister whether it be guidance or whether it be helping them with a little splinter that then i'll be able to see clearly to take out does that make sense to you it's kind of being decluttered inside now you can see clearly someone else and engage with them in a fruitful good way now when i hear these readings i am reminded of that marvelous american indian story once upon a time there was a cherokee grandfather who was having a conversation with his young grandson he said son within every person there's a battle of two wolves two wolves are inside every person who was born and one of those wolves is evil this wolf is full of anger envy jealousy sorrow regret greed arrogance self-pity guilt resentment inferiority lies false pride superiority and ego the grandson eyes open ah everyone has that wolf grand grandpa said yes that wolf is in everyone but there's another wolf and the second wolf is good and that wolf is full of joy peace love hope serenity humility kindness benevolence empathy generosity truth compassion and faith you have those two wolves grandson and often they're competing and fighting with each other they get into fights and sometimes arguments within you within everybody the grandson said oh grandfather which wolf wins and grandfather said oh my son [Music] that depends upon which one you feed which one you feed so next time when there's no peace in your heart as you struggle within let this marvelous story of the two wolves remind you that it's what you feed on that will differentiate what you will become let's think good thoughts of ourselves of situations and of others out of these good thoughts come words of love and encouragement always remember that the holy spirit dwells within us walk in step with the spirit the spirit will enable us to do the good and the right thing and to say helpful words words that will really bless people so that we may please and glorify god and be like the trees we heard about today that bear good fruit in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen and now let us profess our faith i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen out of the divine goodness that grows in our hearts through the holy spirit let us pray for our needs and the needs of all people that those who guide the mission of the church may be selfless in preaching the gospel of jesus christ we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the leaders of nations that they will learn the power of extending mercy love and forgiveness to enemies we pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer scripture commands us to speak the truth may we be aware of the power of speech to hurt and destroy and may we always seek to temper our judgments with compassion and with justice we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer may we avoid hypocrisy in our lives proclaiming to live by one standard yet living by others and may we be concerned for gospel values as faithful disciples of jesus our teacher we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those who sing songs of praise in this parish community may be generous in serving the needy outside of it we pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for all who have died marked with a sign of faith may they be reborn to eternal life for our loved ones for the sick the homebound the military law enforcement personnel and first responders and we remember most especially all those for whom we have promised to pray we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer father we thank you for hearing us as you grant our prayers enable us to be faithful all our days to our lord jesus christ who lives and reigns with you and the holy spirit one god for ever and ever amen amen blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life forever by the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink bless us blessed be god forever with humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you o lord and may our sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you lord god lord wash away my iniquities cleanse me from my sin pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church o god who provide gifts to be offered to your name and count our oblations as signs of our desire to serve you with devotion we ask of your mercy that what you grant as the source of merit may also help us to attain merit's reward through christ our lord amen the lord be with you amen and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you laid the foundations of the world and have arranged the changing of times and seasons you formed us in your own image and set us over the whole world in all its wonder to rule in your name over all you have made and forever praise you in your mighty works through christ our lord and so with all the angels we praise you as and joyful celebration we acclaim [Music] [Music] glory hosanna in [Music] blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith [Music] and drink this cup we proclaim your [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and frank our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever [Music] [Applause] [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us
