faith turns into sight it'll be all right i want you to take your bible today turn with us to two passages of scripture exodus chapter 3 i want to read two verses there and then the song of solomon one short verse the song of solomon exodus chapter number three and i want to look today at verse 13 and verse 14 and then the song of solomon chapter 2 and verse number 1. and if you were here last sunday night this is a continuing of the thought god began to develop in my heart back then on the subject i guess of this series would be what is his name now we'll stand together and let me read the scripture exodus chapter number 13 or 3 exodus 3 and verse 13. i remember hear moses is at the burning bush god has commissioned him to bring his people out of egypt and he gave him the sign that when he did so he would worship in that very mountain in verse number 13 moses replies to god and moses said unto god behold when i come unto the children of israel and shall say unto them the god of your fathers hath sent me unto you and they shall say to me what is his name what shall i say unto them and god said unto moses i am that i am if you'll notice in your king james bible all of those letters are capitalized this is for emphasis this is something profound in the bible i am that i am and he said thou shalt say unto the children of israel i am have sent me song of solomon chapter 2 the words of the bridegroom i believe that with all my heart i am the rolls of sharon and the lily of the valleys let us pray our heavenly father i want to thank you for the privilege of being here today thank you for the sweet spirit of god we've already experienced in this service i pray for anointing and a touch to deliver the lord the message you've placed on my heart i pray the power of god to be here jesus will be magnified blessed holy ghost magnify the lovely lord jesus let the church feed today and be blessed today lord i pray you draw sinners to you today and save them by your grace i pray you do a work lord here is only you can do help us lord don't leave us to ourselves our thoughts but let us catch a glimpse of the loveliness of our lord jesus today we'll thank you for all you do for us in jesus name amen and amen thank you you may be seated well again as we think about exodus and moses experienced god calling him to go yonder to deliver his people simply ask him lord when i go and tell him you've sent me and they asked me well what's his name what is his name and moses is inquiring about god's name and i've been thinking on that subject what is his name now webster tells us that the word name is a word or phrase by which a person or thing is known or it could be a word or phrase expressing some quality considered descriptive of that person or thing it could also be used to describe a position of fame a place of prominence like someone got them a name names are important they not only label us but they often describe our personal character as well as our identity and i want you to think with me again today on some of the titles and names of our lovely lord jesus christ and they are revealed throughout the scriptures there are many of them and we mentioned a few of them in last sunday night's message they're not given by accident i believe the lord has just put them throughout the bible to reveal something of our lord's lovely and glorious character and a person his name is a name above all names bless his holy name not unto us o god not unto us but unto thy name be glory and honor christ's name is precious i mentioned this in introduction last week i'll just touch it on again his name is precious because it's a pardoning name for their salvation in none other but in the name of jesus that's where you found grace and pardon and salvation it's in jesus name his name is a precious name to you which believe he is precious peter tells us his name is special because it's a powerful name in the name of jesus we preach we pray amen we work we worship we gather in his name his name is a powerful name his name is a preeminent name wherefore god has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name and in his name is a permanent name oh jesus christ the same yesterday today and forever last week we began thy first message in this series on the subject i am alpha and omega today the lord has led me to the song of solomon where we read the word stated here i am the rose of sharon and the lily of the valleys let me give you a footnote of explanation before we get into this verse don't confuse lily of the valleys plural with the specie of plant that we now call the lily of the valley they are totally two different plants one is my friend quite poison and the lily of the valley is a bunch of bells and and white little bells and and it's used in weddings it's called that but this is not the lily of the valley this is the lily of the valleys it's a lily that grows throughout the valleys plural of the land of palestine with that being said we come to the song of solomon and we know about the song of solomon that it is a love story it is a story of holy and heavenly romance depicting the love of christ the bridegroom for the bride the church and in our text verse though there are some that believe this is the description of the bride yet great men of god along with myself believe this is the bridegroom's speaking thou men like matthew henry believes this is the bridegroom charles spurgeon believes this is the bridegroom benjamin keach believes this is the bridegroom john gill believes this is the bridegroom this is he that's speaking here to the bride and when you look at he said i am the rose of sharon and the lily of the valley he is revealing himself to his bride amen and this is not just mere self-praise but a loving revelation to his bride of his own nature and his glorious person and as he presents himself in these terms i am the rose of sharon and the lily of the valley ah it's as if to me that the lord is presenting himself to her as a bouquet of blessings and that's what i want to preach on today i want to preach on heaven's bouquet or you might call it a bouquet of blessings to his bride i am the rose of sharon and the lily of the valleys here before us in this text as if the lord is showing to his church the roles of sharon singular and the lily of the valleys plural it's almost as if the lord is just showing amen i mean hey when you was in love did you ever bring her flowers do you bring her flowers now hey this is a love story this is a communication of love this is a presentation of our lord jesus christ to his bride of this beautiful bouquet i am the rose of sharon and the lily of the valleys i would say today and of course this is artificial that i have in my hand but i do have just a simple uh little arrangement on the table today the communion table of live roses and a live lily uh cut flowers fresh cut flowers uh thanks uh to the charity of uh liberty's ingalls that i went by this morning and they gave me the lily of the valley because i got the roses and i say praise god for that but anyway i want you to think about heaven's bouquet now listen y'all get in here with me now i'm not trying to uh give you anything to point to me or my knowledge or my understanding but my heart's desire is we'll look to him i mean listen everywhere you look in this world it's trouble it's heartache it's bad it's dark it's bleak every way which way but oh let's look unto him today i would that the holy ghost would come on this preacher and let you see something of his glories the glories of our lord jesus christ as we think about heaven's bouquet i would mention my way of introduction three things number one i would say something of the lordliness of this bouquet notice that he starts out our verse i am he is the great i am he's the i am that i am he always was he is and ever shall be he is the i am lord god jehovah almighty god which was in his and is to come the covenant keeping god i'm telling you what this is this bouquet my friend this is the i see this the lordliness of this bouquet this is presented by the lord of all the heavenly earth this amen i am not only the lordliness of this bouquet but i would say something about the loveliness of this bouquet and this verse has revealed the loveliness of christ he selects some of the most beautiful flowers by a friend to describe himself and i am the rose of sharon and this not just any ordinary rose but this is the rose of sharon that beautiful fertile plain that goes about 12 to 15 miles in length three to four miles in width from mount hermon down toward the mediterranean it's a fertile plain and it is peppered by a friend with the rose that grows there so lovely and then he adds to this i am the lily giving himself a double commendation the rose with its redness by friend is not complete but when it's set among the lilies my friend its glory sticks out and the purity of the lily these two together my friend paints a beautiful picture but even that is a very dim view of the glories of our lord jesus christ the lordliness of this bouquet the loveliness of it but then i would say something about the lowliness of heaven's bouquet this my friend is flowers from the field flowers even from the valley the lowlands not on my high peaks of mountaintops but my friend in a plane and in a valley i want you to know he that was higher than the heavens came down here amen to reveal himself to us and brother and sister in here his heaven's bouquet well for time's sake today i'm going to deal with these two flowers one at a time i'll deal with the first one today and the next one in our next message from this text we want to think about our lord jesus today for a moment look at this uh these two flowers and makes up this bouquet and he both are describing him describing him he said i am i am the rose of sharon the rose of sharon oh heavens sweet rose i want to say something about that rose of sharon first of all something about its beginning this was not a cultivated rose that people were planting in the gardens but this was the planting of the lord these roses grew wild in the plain of of sharon and they were thriving in the open field and these particular roses were heavenly in their origin this is something that god made special to decorate the fields and my friend and to put his aroma in the meadow i'm telling you what it's beginning i'm telling you god made this rose this is his planning his planting my the lord planted the lord jesus he is a rude out of the dry ground israel did not recognize him any calmliness in him but you and i that are saved by the grace of god oh what what a beauty what a beauty we see in him our lovely lord jesus when i think about the beginning of the rose i i think about its appearing the rose appears in the springtime the springtime is a time of new beginning it's a time of resurrection it's a time when new life comes forth and brother and sister let me say that when god sent his son he sent him to be the head of the regenerated body of his people a new beginning the first adam my friend we lost all in him but in the last adam we have a new beginning the first adam my friend brought us to this terrible plight of sin and depravity but the last adam we have a new beginning we lost for access to the tree of life by the first adam but we'll gain access hallelujah to that tree alive by the last adam here is its beginning it appears in the springtime when the winter storms are gone and the coldness is moved off the scene brother and sister that begins to a bud in the valley and the plane of sharon these little roses are popping up everywhere brother and sister they're appearing they're adoring darning brother and sister god is decorating it is amazing how god decorates i we were everywhere i go and especially at this time of year you could even get out in in a field where there's just wildflowers no cultivation even some of the weeds have some of the most beautiful flowers and and god has decorated this planet he's he's even with the curse on it yeah and you know i love flowers but they don't love me you know we all got sensitivity to allergies and and i've had so much allergies lately i wouldn't hey brother and sister but listen i don't you love the flowers that god made wait god made them they're beautiful they're works of art no artists could catch them on their canvas really in all their glory and splendor no scientists could explain how they came around it's the creation of god it didn't just come out of a big bang this was divine intelligence and divine ingenuity and divine artwork amen in producing flowers to the glory of god by the way flowers are the glory of the plant flowers amen give glory to he who planted them i want you to know this the world has been adorned with many a beautiful thing that god in his mercy has bestowed on us humankind to enjoy i see his handiwork the heavens declare the work of the the glory of god and the firmament is handiwork and down here on earth even with the curse on it i can see god's glory everywhere i look but i especially can see a beauty and a glory as i look at the rose as i look at the lily hey the appearing of them the adorning of the rose then i would say something about the the accessibility of the rose of sharon now uh brother and sister sharon was an open plane it was a place where animals grazed and sheep grazed and it was a place where anybody might wander it wasn't hedged in with fences and walls this was not a planting in solomon's garden walled around oh no this is the valley of cheron all that area all of those acres and the lily is just my friend is one writer said is everybody's rose you be rich you'll be poor you can be big you can be little you can still enjoy the rose it's the flower of the common people amen i'm glad hallelujah he came to the common people i'm glad the lord is available and accessible not just to the big eyes but to the little yous i'm glad he came unto me bless his name and i'm glad hallelujah he came to where i was he's accessible he's accessible the needle of roses were common and they were plenty and that brings me to the next part not only these roses are have their appearing and their adorning and their accessibility but they're abounding i mean these roses they multiplied their they they had they multiplied by friend they had seeds the flower proceeds the seeds the fruit and then inside the fruit is the seeds and my friend and god just put them all through and if you could stand there on a clear spring day and my friend look at those rolling hills of green and my friend you'd see the beautiful decoration of the rose of sharon because they were in abundance when i think about that it tells me something about the abundance of grace where sin did abound grace did much more about i'm glad that my savior is not stingy but he abounds unto us in his mercy and his grace and then i think about not only the adorning and the appearing and the accessibility of the abounding but i think about these roses are aromatic now i know we got different roses now that don't have smell a lot of these that have been crossbred and you know hybrids and all that stuff they lost their smell but oh if you ever had a one of those roses it's just a plain ordinary rose my friend you talk about a perfume i i remember i think it was last spring it may have been early this spring i went to what it was this spring or last spring one i went by to see mary's grave and and the clean clean up any limbs that would have fallen and i smelt the sweetest perfume it was just absolutely glorious what i smell and what it was it was one of those little wild rose bushes with the little bitty roses and man and it was a voluntary it wasn't cultivated it wasn't put there by man but my friend god made it you see there's a lot of stench in this world and a lot of stinky things but god has made some heavenly perfume and i'm telling you brother and sister the rose of sharon fix the bill as being aromatic i'm telling you it's a lovely smell it's pleasing it's soothing oh my it'll get on you there are places where you could walk in a rose garden where they're just and my friend and when you come out they'll you'll smell like where you've been around and you know what if we could fellowship with the roles of sharon today we could leave here with his holy sin upon us and people would take knowledge that we've been with jesus amen because he is the rose of sharon he's the rose of sheriff secondly not only the beginning but i would say something about its blessedness the rose of sharon's blessedness it is called by naturalist the queen of flowers and when and there's none comparing to it i know there's some beautiful flowers i was looking at orchids what beautiful plants there are erotic and plants that you can see beautiful flowers but the rose my still stands supreme as the queen of all flowers and here it's not just a rose but it's the rose of sharon the best of the best and when you talk about the lord jesus he is the best of the best in fact he's in a class all by himself he's better than the best hey hey hey it's beginning it's blessedness let me say something about its beauty its beauty is seen the rose beauty is seen in its budding man rosebud when that rose i was looking at some roses this morning this one here is just coming out of of its budding state but it's closed up buddy it's still a beautiful thing to behold that budding rose it hasn't opened up yet but it's it's it's it's right there getting ready to open up and when i think about that i think about bethlehem and i think about the lord's nativity i think about heaven's blood amen that showed up and angels celebrated and shepherd's worship and kings presented gold frankincense and myrrh heaven's butt amen i'm talking about the rolls of budding it is a thing of beauty and then the rose blooming it is a thing of beauty the rose bloom what a lovely lovely lovely plant the rose bloom and i found a a particular rose today on uh my wife's rose bush hopes i'm getting too bad of trouble about that but i cut it off and boy this you know that's one of those those roses there's all several different kind that but look look how look at these roses here isn't that beautiful isn't that lovely think about the rose i saw man looking at that that's just gorgeous and that gorgeous but you know what when i look at him i had to say this he's all together lovely amen heavens rolls heaven's rolls the rolls of sharon it's beauty it's blooming and when i think of the life of christ his was a life of perfect beauty and he is altogether lovely he's wholly harmless and undefiled and he was pleased unto the father i see him living and dying for others in fact he was cut off in the full bloom of his life but he was cut off so you and i might be saved by the grace of god all the beauty of the rose of sharon number four something again about its bomb or its uh fragrance if you please the rose not only dressed up the field but it freshened the air with perfume and the sight and the smell my friend delighted the passers-by delighted those who walked through its pla those fields just a good smell just a good smell well when i think about the aroma i think about the aroma the smell has to do with something about divine acceptance and all something also something to do about worship when i think about christ offering himself ephesians 5 and verse 2 the bible said and walk in love as christ also have loved us and have given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to god for a sweet smelling savor that word savior savers the old english word means fragrance a sweet smelling aroma and the offering of christ the rose of sharon who was cut off out of the land of the living but not for his sin but for our sin in the full bloom of his life he was cut off and my friend i want you to know there's an aroma that went up to the glory world and to god for a sweet smelling savor now to illustrate that and i won't be much longer but genesis 8 20 when noah had landed on mount ariat and they had taken the top off the ark the land was dry the dove had been set forth and that god lets them make the exit from the ark we find in verse 20 that noah builded an altar unto the lord and he took of every clean beast and of every clean fowl and offered burnt offerings on the altar and the lord smelled a sweet savor and the lord said in his heart i will not again curse the ground anymore for man's sake and when i think about the lord jesus who was when god smelled that offering of christ that was offered up god smelled and god said i ain't gonna curse them i ain't going to curse them why because of the sweet sweet aroma of the offering of christ i said also not only to speak of divine acceptance but it also the aroma speaks of of worship because man i'm telling you we'll say more about that in a moment the bomb let me get on to another one right quick let me say something about the rose of sharon and it's bringing forth it's bringing forth and i want to say this it brings for fruit you don't think about fruit about roses at least most of us don't but probably many of us have have tasted it many of us has experienced it and i'll mention that in a minute but what with the roses it brings forth flowers it brings for fragrance and it brings forth fruit the flower is the glory of the plant and boy how we are delighted with his beauty and see his heavenly glory and experience his lovely the loveliness of this person not only a flower but the fragrance the aroma speaks of worship and man isn't it good when he shows up and his power and his glory is manifested and your spiritual senses are awakened to the presence of the rose of sharon and you worship but then there is the fruit of the rose you say those are you see the by the way the flower precedes the fruit and then the fruit contains the seeds and the fruit is is something good for us have you ever heard of rose hips you ever heard of that rose hips rose hips are not only good for food they are loaded with antioxidant and vitamin c in fact that's the way we used to get vitamin c by buying rose hip tablets and man you could put your sour i mean a sire and i i'd just like to let it suck on it it was good stuff you know a lot of times you people like sour stuff and i uh well let me go on right quick here but let's just say this rose hips is a fruit from the rose and it's good for health and it it's good for food and man i'm telling you what in you you look at the fruit of our lord amen think about the fruit of the spirit that he has produced in your life and the graces that he's bestowed upon you my friend that which characterized him is now brother and sister you and i can experience ourself and all he his fruit is sweet under our taste i thank god for the bringing forth let me say a word about some of the its benefits the rose of sharon now more than just beauty and aroma the rose has a lot of benefits health benefits reading i think this was that from benjamin keach on preaching from the shadows and types of the scripture he said rose oils and serps and rose water is made from its petals used to treat sore throats ulcerated mouths headaches stomach problems skin cream for chapped hands pimples jaundice arthritis infection liver and eye problems and etc also the cooling nature of roses are used in treating burning fevers and inflammations the rose has health benefits and even so christ the rose of sharon is a cure for our sin-sick souls and he cools and comforts the consciences of guilty sinners who have received him and his forgiveness by his grace all the benefits of heaven's rose but i end now with this not only its beginning it's the rose of sharon it's blessedness it's beauty it's bomb it's bringing forth its benefits but number seven it's bruising it's bruising it's bruising rose water you ever heard of that many of you ladies have used it a lot of your cosmetics come from the rose but how they get that they have to take that rose and bruise it and pull its petals and chop them and bruise them in fact if you want to know you can pull them all out chop them up bruise them pour hot steaming water on them you can make you some rose water just like that without spending a whole lot of money but roses it's blues and a lot of the medicinal properties would never be if it wasn't for the fact he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities and by stripes we're healed heavens rose heavens rose says i love you i love you i love you i love you i love you he gave his all for us the bruising of the rolls of sharon in making rose water also in making rose syrup and the syrups and the and the oils the petals of that flower had to be torn away crushed and when i think about heaven's sweet rose and how he was beaten and bruised to bring a healing bomb to our soul bless his holy name squire parson picked up on this years ago brother tommy wimpy used to sing this about the broken rose words cannot describe its beauty as upon the film it grows much less in its glory the tender little rose when its petals are broken its greatest beauty it shows for sweeter the fragrance of the broken rose the most beautiful rose was broken one day nailed to a tree on a hill far away forsaken by his friends bruised by his foes how sweet is the fragrance of heaven's sweet rolls then they laid the broken rose in a borrowed tomb but on the third day that rose again did bloom now to the heights of heaven down to the deepest hell the fragrance of heaven's rose continually dwells the most beautiful rose was broken one day nailed to a tree on a hill far away forsaken of his friends bruised by his foes how sweet is the fragrance of heaven sweet rose the rose of sharon the rose of sharon and i think about he as heaven's rose cut off from the land of the living crushed and bruised and nailed to an old rugged cross one author said this also note the rose with its thorn reminds us of his suffering his bleeding love for us his death on our behalf his bearing of the thorns which our sin created christ is a royal rose beset with thorns who was cut off and bruised and broken for us he said to his bride i am the rose of sharon no and and you know the half has never been told when you look at his glory and his beauty and his fragrance as his heavenliness and his humility as his blessedness i'll tell you what you can't help you can't help but just to love him just to love him why what a wonderful savior we have well that wasn't too long let's stand together for prayer our father in heaven thank you for letting us get into this study to see something of an illustrated glory of our lovely lord jesus oh god we bless your name we pray that you take this message and lord just let your people magnify you and love you and adore you and lord have sweet fellowship with you and lord to have the fragrance of the rose of sharon emanating from their lives as a testimony that
