come into god's house to give him glory and praise and we say from the bottom of our hearts welcome welcome to all our families all our friends and all our guests who have joined us we say welcome and we are most glad you are here today the scriptures challenge us to ask ourselves what does it mean to be christ-like what does it mean to be a beloved child of god god gives us his rule his lovely golden rule to really love others the way god loves them to be forgiving as god is forgiving to be compassionate as god is compassionate to be merciful as the father is merciful brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray from me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life lord have mercy [Music] christ have mercy lord have mercy [Music] [Music] we hear you thanks for your [Music] [Applause] [Music] lord jesus [Music] away [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] is [Music] me [Music] let us pray grant we pray almighty god that always pondering spiritual things we may carry out in both word and deed that which is pleasing to you through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god for ever and ever [Music] a reading from the first book of samuel in those days saul went down to the desert of zif with three thousand picked men of israel to search for david in the desert of zif so david and bishi went among saul's soldiers by night and found saul laying asleep within the barricade with his spear thrust into the ground at his head and abner and his men sleeping around him abhishee whispered to david god has delivered your enemy into your grasp this day let me nail him to the ground with one thrust of the spear i will not need a second thrust but david said to abishi do not harm him for who can lay hands on the lord's anointed and remain unpunished so david took the spear and the water jug from their place at saul's head and they got away without anyone's seeing or knowing or awakening all remained asleep because the lord had put them into a deep slumber going across to an opposite slope david stood on a remote hilltop at a great distance from abner son of nur and the troops he said here is the king's spear let an attendant come over to get it the lord will reward each man for his justice and faithfulness today though the lord delivered you into my grasp i would not harm the lord's anointed the word of the lord so [Music] the lord is kind and merciful lord is kind of merciful [Music] [Music] bless the lord o my soul and all my being blessed god's name bless the lord and forgot not god's benefits [Music] lord jesus [Music] pardons all your iniquities and comforts your sorrows redeemed your life from destruction and crowns you with kindness [Music] is [Music] a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters it is written the first man adam became a living being the last adam a life-giving spirit but the spiritual was not first rather the natural and then the spiritual the first man was from the earth earthly the second man from heaven as was the earthly one so also other earthly and as is the heavenly one so also are the heavenly just as we have borne the image of the earthly one we shall also bear the image of the heavenly one [Music] the word of the lord [Music] my [Music] i give you a new commandments as the lord love one another as i have loved you [Music] [Music] the lord be with you [Music] a reading from the holy gospel according to luke [Music] jesus said to his disciples to you who hear i say love your enemies do good to those who hate you bless those who curse you pray for those who mistreat you to the person who strikes you on one cheek offer the other as well and from the person who takes your cloak do not withhold even your tunic give to everyone who ask of you and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back do to others as you would have them do to you for if you love those who love you what credit is that to you even sinners love those who love them and if you do good to those who do good to you what credit is that to you for even sinners do the same if you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment what credit is that to you even sinners lend to sinners and get back the same amount but rather love your enemies and do good to them and lend expecting nothing back then your reward will be great and you will be children of the most high for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked be merciful just as your father is merciful stop judging and you will not be judged stop condemning and you will not be condemned forgive and you will be forgiven give and gifts will be given to you a good measure packed together shaken down and overflowing will be poured into your lap for the measure with which you measure will in turn be measured out to you the gospel of the lord [Music] prayer what does prayer mean to you do we even understand why we pray for even scripture says that we don't pray as we ought prayer even jesus jesus prayed he would always go to be with the father then what is it that jesus was doing that we also need to do prayer is a mutual exchange of desires we share with god from the most profound places inside of us what are our desires what are our earthly desires where are the aches in our hearts what are the things that no one absolutely no one would listen to what are the things inside of us disordered or ordered desires that we need to share with god we share with god all our earthly desires our human needs our emotions we share with him our hurts our pains our woundedness but we also must share with him our joys our celebrations our thanksgiving in prayer we share our human desires and god shares with us desires that are divine desires that are holy desires that are pure desires that wish and will the good for us the best for us so we must think about prayer in the sense that it is a relationship that is formed and in prayer we come to know the one who wants to be known and in knowing him we come to know who we are we are god's beloved children and god only wills the good the ultimate good for us that is his desire for us and i started thinking about prayer and how i want to go to prayer god has put a desire inside of us to enter into prayer to come to know him ever more intimately to love him because love is who you are and to serve him as he has ministered to us that everything we have is a gift from god and i've come to realize that it wasn't until i prayed that never ever did i ever feel that someone was truly listening to my aches to my suffering to my needs it is in prayer that i finally realized that there is someone on the other side of that prayer who really cares for me and this person has all the time in the world for me this person has an eternity to hear me and so in that prayer i share all all my hurt all my worries all my concerns my shortcomings my inflictions my affliction everything i share with him and he shares everything with me and his desire ultimately is what fulfills us and gains us the happiness think for a moment what is your true desire not the things that you want not the things that you see but deep down inside go deep dig deep what is it inside of you that you long for we long to be heard we long to be needed we long to be loved we long to be understood and no one does that greater than god but we can only do that in prayer god is sharing his desire for us today and we might see it as a challenge we might even say it is impossible to do what god is asking us to do when he says we must love our enemies we must do good to those who hate us we must even pray for those who persecute and mistreat us but god is already only sharing with us what he's done for us jesus would never ask us to do anything that he hasn't done first for us imagine how he loved all those who hated him but he did that for us imagine how he loved all his enemies and those who persecute him but he did that for love of us imagine how he prayed for all those who mistreated him and persecuted him and even said father forgive them they don't know what they do he did that for us and now he asks us to consider who are you who are you really when we are called the beloved child we are called to be like jesus in the most profound places in our hearts to be just just like jesus compassionate loving kind gentle humble forgiving always forgiving forgiving always peaceful loving joyful this is who we are this is the desire that has been placed deep down in our hearts and so when we say we can't love our enemies and we can't forgive those who wronged us then we're not being like jesus and we're not even being ourselves we're not being loving as god has called us to love that when we're unable to do those things we're unable to be who we truly are in prayer god wants you to know that you are his beloved you're god's child and he loves you and so in prayer we have to learn to trust in him and hear his voice but there's another voice the voice of the enemy and what does he want in prayer he wants to discourage us he wants to make us orphans he wants us to be independent and self-reliant so that we don't need god and we don't depend on god that's not who we are that's the first adam disobedient we are the new adam we are the one who lives in the spirit the life-giving spirit we live as he live truly obedient to god jesus is always beloved child god never abandoned him god always provided for him and he remains in god's love that's us the enemy wants to separate us he wants us to be orphans he wants us to be on our own lonely helpless and hopeless and god says no in prayer you are everything to me so come don't be too busy don't wait to the end of the day don't think that prayer is a burden and a hardship prayer is a gift an awesome gift go learn how to pray go know the one who wants to be known and the one who wants you to know who you really are god has loved us with an unconditional love he never shows us hate he never shows us anger he never punishes us and he asks us to do the same to love with all our heart and that is who we are my brothers and sisters we are god's children now together now as a family with all confidence let us profess what we believe i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the fall he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen as a people of faith we pray for our enemies and want only the best for all people faced with this great challenge we enter into prayer and we ask the lord to hear ours for our holy father pope francis that he may inspire us by his own example to live as christ did let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for political leaders may the lord assist them in working to promote peace among all nations let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for all people may we recognize christ's image in each other and may we each bear christ's image in our daily lives let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for those who fight for freedom and justice members of the military and our local first responders that they will feel support and protection in their acts of service let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for the hungry and the homeless for those in hospitals and nursing homes for the homebound in all caregivers and for those suffering from illnesses or addictions not seen by the eye may they know the healing presence of christ let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for those who have died may they be led to the heavenly kingdom especially tony and evelyn acosta let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the recently deceased charlie fatone rosa mendes lynn harris sarah elaine guglioma gabina benkoma patricia frias elsie malabranch and mark shirk let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the people of our parish and for those prayers that we speak now in the silence of our hearts let us pray to the lord r lord most kind and merciful father we beg you to hear and answer these prayers we bring before you in confidence and in hope and we ask you to grant them according to your divine will we ask this through christ our lord [Music] [Music] we are [Music] [Music] is [Music] with god [Music] we are [Music] with god [Music] day [Music] [Music] brothers [Music] we are [Music] is pray brethren that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father as we celebrate your mysteries o lord with the observance that is your due we humbly ask you that what we offer to the honor of your majesty may profit us for salvation through christ our lord the lord be with your spirit [Music] it is truly right to give you thanks truly just to give you glory father most holy for you are the one god living and true existing before all ages and abiding for all eternity dwelling in unapproachable light yet you who alone are good the source of life have made all that is so that you might fill your creatures with blessings and bring joy to many of them by the glory of your light and so in your presence are countless hosts of angels who serve you day and night and gazing upon the glory of your face glorify you without ceasing with them we too confess your name in exaltation giving voice to every creature under heaven as we acclaim oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] so open your hearts silent your thoughts clear your mind and enter into the prayer and enter the father's heart share with him your desires in this prayer and be prepared to receive his he loves us let us give him all our attention you are indeed holy oh lord the font of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] is [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and john our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the angels and saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] at the savior's command informed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may
