welcome back to istanbul turkey and today is all about food we want to show you the seven foods that you absolutely must try when you come to istanbul we are going to kick off the day with breakfast and to get it we have 20 minute walk ahead of us via galata bridge [Music] we were planning to just go for the many men but we went for the whole turkish breakfast instead we grabbed the turkish coffee which was delicious but had strong let's list what we've got here so clotted cream and honey butter olives peaches cherries a variety of different cheeses parsley with dill and pomegranate seeds a load of different jams an incredible peanut butter avocado smashed with some herbs and a tomato and pepper spread called muhammara on top of all the cold bits we've got a fried egg sulkuk which is a spicy turkish sausage fried dough and goslemo and we tapped a menu men on top minimum by the way is a turkish scrambled egg which in this case consists of egg green peppers tomato sauce spices dylan parsley and for us this was the main event this was the first time we tried a combination of clotted cream and honey and oh my god it was delicious this is gauze lemme it's a flat bread stuffed with cheese dill and parsley that was incredible we absolutely loved this breakfast probably not the cheapest one you'll find in istanbul but the quality of food was just out of this world i'm so amazing and if that's a sign of how the rest of the day is going to go then room for a good day by the way if you want to get the addresses of all the places where we tried our food check out our full free istanbul guide the link is down below [Music] we're on our way to try media dolma and we are going to this place which supposed to be the best place in istanbul for them [Music] you can choose the classic ones we went for them you could choose the ones with shrimp or squid inside and also there are some insoles we got them take away so let's go around the corner and try them so the lady was so kind to give us to try them with sauce and we know they taste absolutely delicious let's go for the classic one and see what they're like let me just grab one so mediodomas are basically stuffed mussels see there is a mussel there is rice and you can see there are some spices in there too so let's try and scoop it out it comes out easy and you're supposed to put some lemon on them as well let's do that [Music] okay hmm let me just chew them and explain to you how they taste if you ever tasted mussels you know that quite strong flavor of the sea this is not that strong i wouldn't say and it's very creamy inside so this rice sort of got stuck together it's nice it's not dry at all and it's full of flavoring spices it's even it has a bit of a kick to it as well and lemon juice just makes it nice and refreshing so you definitely have to go and try them so we're not full yet we're just getting started and we're off to our next destination to try manti but let's get there first so many is quite a famous dish throughout central asia and also really popular in russia as well it's basically a meat dumpling i think i think manatee itself is originally from uzbekistan but turkish manatee is mixed with yogurts and lots of spices which hopefully should take it to that next level let's give it a go so good the yogurt and the oil and the spices mix together with the meaty dumplings just works so nice give it a go matt said that we're not full but after monty we're definitely feeling it thankfully we've got a very nice walk ahead of us to get back to our site and we might try some ice cream there if we have some room [Music] oh hang on that's soap we decided to go for kunafi instead of ice cream for now and i had a sneaky peek of what else they sold so we got it take away because music was playing in there and we're afraid to be demonetised so we're going to eat it in a park hopefully the ice cream doesn't melt in the steam time this is kunafe usually it's shredded filler pastry or semolina then in the middle you should have cheese or cottage cheese sometimes and then it's all drenched in syrup and you should have some pistachios on top of it as well and usually it's served with quality cream or ice cream we went for the ice cream so let's dig in so that can after itself was made freshly for us and it's really nice and warm as you can see the ice cream is melting pretty quickly we only walked for like a couple of minutes it's a beautiful combination of something really warm and cold ice cream as you might imagine the ice cream is really tasty on itself but we're gonna try it a bit later as well with you kanafi is beautiful it's really sweet the pastry is a bit crunchy and you can taste the cheese it's not very salty but it just gives you this creamy flavor and it combines with the whole thing just beautifully i love it okay so we're tapping out for the day we wanted to do it in one day we thought we could but we let ourselves down and they'll let batteries die as well tomorrow we're back out we're feeling refreshed it's day two we're ready to go again [Music] this morning we are off to a place called imperato cockroach and we're going to try something that's called cockridge but we will tell you what it is once we get it cockered is basically lamb intestines it's cooked on a spit sideways instead of upwards like a normal kebab it's cooked over the spit and it's really supposed to be we don't know yet it's supposed to be a really fatty and then crispy on the outside bit of meat would you call it meat yeah meat and then you served with tomatoes and lots of spices i think there's satire in there sumac and some chili and we've got it in a pita bread you can get it either in a normal like a carved out mouth or you can also get it separately on a plate just with the meat and just dig in and eat it that way we went for the pita bread it's spicy it's fatty and taste all the spices the refreshing tomato in there and then toasted bun just tops it off just gives it a bit of crunch perfect street food perfect 10 out of 10. plenty something sweet now let's go and get some baklava [Music] we are walking over there just across the bridge to eat our baklava [Music] we grabbed a few different types of baklava to try and some turkish tea to wash it all down with let me show you what types we've got here we've got this one full of pistachio paste inside this one is with pistachios as well just in a different shape it's got some korean pistachio on top this one is chocolate and pistachio one and this one is with walnuts baklava is made out of filler pastry and nuts then it's all covered in syrup so let's dig in and try it let's try the walnut one first this baklava is full of nuts and you can really taste them through maybe i haven't tried proper baklava before but i remember just every time all you get is just this sweetness that hurts your mouth i've got very sweet tooth but i don't like things overly sweet when you can't taste anything apart from this sharp sweetness so this one is really nice it's sweet which is really nice with tea it's very crunchy on top despite it being drenched in syrup and you can really really taste the nuts inside so i would say it's definitely a good start i'm really interested to try a chocolate one first i've never ever tried a chocolate baklava is that coconut look i broke it and i think there is coconut inside this is very interesting actually it's only covered in pistachios it's actually chocolate baklava with coconut inside while broken you can see the layer of coconut there this is really beautiful as well very interesting i would definitely advise you to try this one let me just have a tip let's go for the next one and we already know that we adore this one this one is hands down my favorite it's full of flavor of pistachios not overly sweet at all you can even hardly taste the filler pastry it's just sweet pistachios it's amazing you've gotta try that 100 okay let's try our next one this looks like the previous one just the bigger version it's just a monster version of the last one i mean it's a brilliant scene yeah it's not a bad thing too i'm slightly upset we didn't try a different flavor but i mean i say to win hope you enjoyed baklava tasting with us let's keep moving god i miss mexico she wants your taco yeah let's go we're off to get some tuning or a turkish taco [Music] this is tantoonie my turkish taco basically it's beef there's fried you saw it was done i don't need to say but it's really nicely spiced beef with vegetables rolled up in a navash that's warmed up on top of the beef rolled up and it's all cut and then there's yogurt and then some of the oil they were cooking and poured over top with some herbs and spices looks amazing so let's give it a go this is so nice the onions and tomatoes are obviously raw so they're nice and crunchy and then the beef's really hot it's got a nice spice to it and then when it's covered in that yogurt and the oil it's just so creamy and then the lavash has been soaked in the bread so it's soaked up all that fat and meat is so nice such a nice combination another amazing meal here in istanbul so we've come to the last one and to be honest we've been dreading this one all day you know that getting ice cream in turkey can get into the whole palama and entertainment and we both get quite awkward in situations like that so we decided to flick a coin to decide which one of us is going to get it pencil toes tails come on [Music] [Laughter] oh well to be quite honest with you it was as bad as i imagined and the worst thing about it all yeah she will take it made me do it twice i actually wonder if they enjoy teasing you or they're like oh another fool i have to entertain let's try it we took the vanilla flavor it's very sweet and the ice cream itself it's an interesting fact actually that they add flour to it hence why it's so thick and playable that's why they do all this you know fancy things and taking lumps out of the thingy the flavor of it is actually really nice it's not very strong flavor of vanilla but it's really nice and i would say thick it's very thick and almost like a soft type of mozzarella it's a really really tasty ice cream so make sure that you give it a go [Music] as a breezy bonus we got some desserts from a supermarket this is burnt milk one and this one is rice pudding so let's give them a go it looks like custard i like custard not many things i don't like to be had it smells supposedly let's try it's actually really nice it's like um a combination between custard and condensed milk it's like thick condensed milk i'd say i should have found the same thing it's worth spitting it's putting smell the same hmm it's my favorite right i used to order it all the time every holiday when we used to go we used to walk up to the cake shop just like all the time they used to get cakes like some sort of chocolate used to get chocolate cake and they get vanilla sponges and i'm like no man i'm cultured i'm going for the turkish rice pudding it's actually really nice it's very creamy it's similar to this giza but not as thick i'd say and this is a bit more i shall say no it's thick and gooey would you say this is a bit more loose if you like and you can taste it not spongy almost yes yes you can almost chew on that one but here it's more liquidy it's more gentle but it's super delicious this you would have thought looks burnt right but this is like a creme brulee it adds adds to the flavor so it's really really tasty i would recommend it hundred percent okay thanks bye hope we gave you the insight into some of the must try foods in istanbul so we're here in turkey for another month at least possibly more and there's gonna be plenty more food videos coming where we try and load to turkish food so if that sounds like something you're into hit that subscribe button give this video a
