so we are all very excited  today we are doing our first   ever sort of like a DIY food tour we don't  have like an official guide or anything   we're just gonna kind of go and try a lot of  street food some of it we've tried some of it   we haven't we made a kind of like a rough  list but really just gonna see what we see   if something looks yummy we're gonna try it um  it's gonna be tasty it should be tasty and fun   so our first stop is actually  pretty close there's a local bakery   just like a block away and  they have a lot of traditional   Turkish foods so we're gonna hop in  there and see what yumminess we can find what did we what did we get which is like a Turkish pizza is there so it's like minced meat or egg  peppers and quiche and then we also got   Layla you want to try the borek so  it's like layers of pastry spinach it's so delicious it's sort of flaky yeah  Emersyn said it's almost like savory baklava so it's basically a wet burger  i read online that it's tomato it smells like marinara sauce like a meatball  it's kind of amazing it's actually really   good it's very soft because it's like  wet i want more of it when you're done   thank you again hospitality is like  the next level here always so this is   um yeah you want to talk about it  see what it is it's mussels with rice i think you said muscle excuse me what  what was this what is it mussels mussels thank you that looks good really good so we are hoping to find a lot more of the food  on the popular Ishtaklal street it's a big hub   street it connects Taksim Square with um Galata  Bridge pretty much tons of shopping all sorts   of shopping so on a typical weekend this um  street is covered with people we read online   like up to three million people can visit in  one weekend which is insane now there's still   a good amount of people but because of covid not  quite as much as normally but still really cool i'm trying to figure out what it is  i thought it was like a cornbread but   it's like a rice um yeah it's like fried it  tastes like fried rice with like some meat   and peppers it's really crispy really good  it's got a little kick to it a little bit of   spice but it's really good it's very fresh  like those are greens like chives and stuff   you've noticed um a lot of cats in our video  that's because Istanbul is full of stray cats   what was it once called cats cat symbol so we  googled the other day just to see how many cats   of course no one knows the exact number but it's  estimated that 125,000 cats are stray cats on the   streets of Istanbul i got a really good photo of  one yeah people take good care of them there's   like stations with food and water that says like  you are not alone and shows a picture of cats   and there's tons of like cat houses or cardboard  boxes or styrofoam boxes with holes in them   and they just take really good what do you say about it it looks like  you can test because it looks like   like rubber bands are you gonna try it okay so this we've actually tried before  i have not tried it yes so it didn't look   this good before so what is it Emersyn kind  of already said lamb intestines right yeah   intestines but he chopped up fresh tomatoes  chopped up fresh peppers some onions the bread   super soft all sorts of spices and you could get  it spicy or not spicy yeah and we sprinkled some   baharatli or spicy seasonings on it and how much  was it uh 20. 20 lira so less than three dollars that was mostly bread bite you got to do  that again the bread is really good though   yeah well while we were waiting we saw a  guy bring in like a massive bag full of   fresh rolls that's so good i don't care what  it is sometimes you get like a chewy bite like   so you get the feeling that it's an innard you  said entered but it tastes so good i don't care is it spicy or just like a little bit  just because of the spicy put on it   look it's like fresh seasonings you're a brave kid also my name means  some kind of translation it's true thank you we just got a doner durum or just  doner rolls is it donna durum and we got some   tea the durum is the word for wrath so  basically anything you get in a wrap   would be a duram but this is a donor germ which  means it's the meat that is off the spit or the   big stick rotating in the fire that's what donna  means that's what done or kebab means i think   one that spins we got the beef there's also  chicken is it beef or the lamb yeah they call it and french fries and it's usually so so yeah  it's one of my favorites like we've had it   several times here i always try to find the one  with that has pickles and it's a nice little zing it's so good i don't know if this is beef  or if it's lamb i especially like the lamb   and then when there's the pickle in it and the  tomato it's like the perfect like salty acid   it's really good Layla found a new friend it's really strong here but really good um i think  we saw online that how many average cups a day somewhere in between five and twenty  somewhere between five and twenty are you gonna go for a traditional Turkish fish  sandwich no don't be scared we weren't sure if   we were going to try this or not today it's a  it's a turkey staple right how do you say it   yeah they probably caught it right here phallic  by like ekmek ekmek means means bread we've   bought a lot of bread lately so we know that and  balek is fish so it's literally just so simple   fish lettuce onions no no mayonnaise  or sauce or tartar sauce no tartar   sauce did you ask where the tartar  sauce was just kidding go for it it smells fishier than it is it looks really good   it looks like a very white fish  so maybe it won't be a fishy it's good right um it reminds  me most of like a catfish maybe   from the states they totally like they had the  buns and like the stuff in it and then the guy   just like took a whole fish from the fire stuffed  it in there it's really good so we're heading   now to the spice bazaar they have not only  spices but all sorts of Turkish delights and   desserts really we just need to burn a little  bit of thyme before we probably eat anything else don't tell these girls that because  they'll want to eat everything no problem take it right i just want to see all  types of Turkish like with honey made   and this one is with pomegranate with pistachio  with hazelnut with almond milk Nesquik with   significance and the chocolate like this one is  all types of food you can find something this   one is pomegranate oh my goodness thank you enjoy  and you can sit on here if you want okay thank you   thank you one picture one dollar that's one  video is five dollars okay who are you saying we just had the best experience at the spice  bazaar met the kindest man his name was Benjamin   um he was so proud of his shops just showing  us around giving us so much information   and they gave us these too the girls got nice  little keepsakes for free and then inside this jasmine he just kept  floating the girls up with   like try this try that so if you  come to turkey go see la sienda de jordi oh my word so it's 12.50 for all of that it's very wet is it this is what i've been  wanting to try most it reminds me of when   you bite into baklava and you get all that  honey yeah but it's more like a donut inside   you definitely only want to eat like  one of those except i've already had two   no somehow every all the bread here feels lighter  apply there's no preservatives no fat no fat   so we couldn't finish our food tour without  highlighting two of the super important   Turkish desserts here they're both originated  from turkey Turkish delights and baklava   so we're gonna go try to find both of those  should be very very easy to do because   they're all one link every street corner um this is the um i think you got walnuts um  it's basically really thin sheets of dough   and a bunch of syrup and a bunch of syrup or honey  and nuts usually so you've got walnuts and then   normally there's pistachios  sometimes there's chocolate oh i can hear it crunch so good it's so good very buttery buttery it's really good though so  we've had this multiple times since we've been   here it's one of our favorites we learned that  the history of baklava is unknown like they're   not exactly sure where it came from but the  first mention of it was at top copy palace   which we visited so right here in turkey they used  to bake it for the sultan and his family i guess   um in the royal kitchen of top coffee  palace we're gonna eat like royalty so a food tour would not be complete without  having traditional Turkish coffee and tea it   came with a little chocolate well we have turkey  it's not for the faint of heart if you don't like   coffee you would not like this but i like coffee  you like strong coffee i like strong coffee and   this is like the strongest i think well that  looks good i'm going to have seconds at thirds   so Emersyn and i went for the winter tea which  it looks like all sorts of i know it's rose hip it warms you up since we've stopped for a little tea break   we just said it would be a good  place to have our Turkish delight typically when i eat these it's basically like  a fancy gummy bear typically i prefer the fancy   ones with all the marshmallows yeah the nougat  candy chocolate and nuts but these are pretty good   i'd like to try this yeah i want to try the  coconut one am i really greasy you know no   no no hole in your shoe in my shoe yes  and you should cut that's your director's what did you say just for a kit you know what it's   made of i don't know if i can i can  literally see pieces of tube tubes is this bad for you to start over for editing you better not the
