hi everyone my name is nick and today i have a little bit more of a general video for you we are going to simply discuss house plants that i would wholeheartedly recommend to everyone whether you are a seasoned indoor gardener or a budding houseplant enthusiast i would practically consider all these houseplants quality of life improvements where they green up your space and you practically do not have to lift a finger to care for them they are just going to improve the quality of your space and your life so i think these are house plants that everyone should be growing and i would also consider all of these easy enough to get your hands on and inexpensive enough but that's of course in my area of the united states i cannot stress that enough of course in your area things might be a little bit different as you know the market's different in all different areas of the united states as well as different countries so just something i have to of course point out a little disclaimer there but the first one i would like to talk about today is really this stunner of a house plant so this is an ugly nema red emerald and this is a plant that i see practically in every garden center but i really don't see people like googling over this house plan to grow in their home which kind of baffles me because i really think this is absolutely the most beautiful ugly name that i grow in my home and i grow a whole bunch of ugly names in my home of course i'll do a show and tell video on him at some point hopefully in the near future because i think aglianemas are all so similar but also so different it's just kind of like hoyas and peperomias where you can see the similarities you can see how they're related but there are also so many differences at the same time and nuances that you can really appreciate so i think this is the one that just stands out the most the most to me in terms of ugly animals or chinese evergreens and what i just love so much about it is really like i said how stunning and much of a showstopper it is typically when you're working with plants that are this beautiful you're talking like calatheas and stromanthies and houseplants that once you bring them home you kind of realize that they're pretty much a pain in the ass to care for i would say that this aglianema red emerald on the other hand is one that is extremely easy to care for and will not give you any of those problems that you're going to find with prayer plants such as calatheas and stromanthy's as i had mentioned so not only does this plant just give you the most beautiful foliage but you really barely have to lift a finger to care for it i'm probably watering this one roughly like every two weeks maybe even pushing that a little bit like maybe every 20 days mind you it is in a ceramic pot right here i did match it of course with the red planter i love my ox blood planters um but it is also sitting you know roughly six feet below my soul tech solutions aspect light so it's medium light almost you know bordering on low light as far as grow lights go but as this is an ugly enamel which is a rather low light end of the spectrum house plant i think that's perfectly fine and clearly it's doing quite well one thing i also really love about this house plant is the way the leaves age you can see some of these lower leaves they get a little bit like a yellow tinge to them they kind of get some just like little speckles of yellow which kind of gives it more of like an autumnal appearance which i really like but of course those new leaves do come in pretty much dead on only emerald green and just striking a bright red which really is such a showstopper it is such an eye-catcher it's a plant that i absolutely love i wish i saw more people growing in their home because it's such an easy incredible house plant and like i said i see it in practically every garden center i know that sometimes the red and pink and white aglianemas can cost a little bit more than the green aglianemas which are of course not necessarily the cheapest houseplants to begin with but i'm sure you would find a six-inch pot of this plant for roughly 30 or less which in today's climate honestly isn't that bad of a deal at all so just something i have to point out it is really such a beautiful house plant that is very very readily available and this is a really funky one as well so this i don't even think this is going to be able to get in frame i apologize i don't think you're going to get the full essence of this wonderful funky house pant thank you so much so this is a dressena reflexa and this is a particular variety called song of india now dracena reflexa is a type of dracaena that was recently reclassified from a group of plants or a genus that was once referred to as pliomelli if you are familiar with that so i think that is a little bit of oh my gosh there's so much honking right now i think that is a little bit of an easier pill to swallow than say the sansevieria reclassification into dracena so um that's just a little side note there in my own opinion but this is just such a funky house plant this is of course just one little plant in a pot i think you would typically see these sold as just like large bunches of plants practically as tall as me i would almost be daring enough to say that these plants that used to be classified as pliamellis are a little bit easier and more rewarding to grow than the plants that we more more know as dracaena such as dracaena janet craig and justin and marginata while incredible houseplants and are very common and widespread housemates for good reason because they are ridiculously easy to grow this is one that can just withstand a little bit more sunlight and you know that's something that they would grow like outside in florida you'd see it as like landscaping a lot but this is of course in my area of the united states much more suitable as a house plant but it really does grow much faster you can see very clearly where i purchased this plant because of how small these leaves are and how it's grown at least six inches of new growth since then and i've really only had this plant for like eight months to a year so i say that's pretty good if you consider the adage the first year they sleep the second year they creep the third year they leap this thing is already creeping along and it's gonna be leaping for me soon so it's a decently fast grower one that very easily acclimates to your home and like i said can handle a little bit more light than the dracena i think uh drastinas would totally burn and in my experience they will burn if you give them direct sunlight for more than just a couple hours a day uh they really do not like that harsh sunlight but this is a plant that's just a little bit more accustomed to it extremely easy on the watering end i don't think i could over underwater this plant and if i did over water it i'm sure these lower leaves would just start to turn yellow and fall off but as this is one that is kind of just admittedly shoved in the back corner of my bathroom window i barely remember to water it and i'll find it a little bit droopy i think it's telling me i probably say in like a couple of days this plant will probably start to get droopy because as i said i barely pay attention to it so it's good that i pulled it out for this video so i can go ahead and give it a nice watering and a dusting because we all know it needs it you guys can probably see very clearly the dust accumulating on this plant ooh okay so this is a fantastic one so this is once again a very common house plant but i think this is one that just really is a really great contender to grow in your home so this is a philodendron heterasium lemon lime they call this now there is another philodendron very commonly known as the lemon lime philodendron that grows upright if you will so this one grows down in trails of course it would grow upright if you gave it something to climb on um however i'm not doing that because i think it's just such an incredible curtain of just fullness and lushness house plant it's just so incredible but like i said just to be a little bit more clear there is another one that is called filled under lemon lime i believe that's philodendron domestic lemon lime and this is philadelphia and lemon lime so just to point out the similar but different house plants that we see in the house plant stores but this is such an incredible trailing house plant really this is such a lush plant as you can very clearly see i'm sure i once again can't get all this plant in the in the frame and it's very similar it's got a very similar look to the neon pathos if you're familiar with that apparently orion neon which i was almost considering talking about in this video to be honest but the reason that i decided to pick this plant instead of neon pothos is that one i think this plant gives you a little bit more of that like bohemian viable pathos are a little bit more tropical so i think this is just like a perfect houseplant for the home it's less aggressive it's just kind of like a hanging curtain where the apothosis is kind of a little more upright and in your face if that makes any sense but also i think that this philodendron lemon lime really holds its color better than the epipen orion neon so i really just appreciate this lovely lemon lime color that typically on house plants if you were to see it on your plants it would be when your plants are turning yellow and about to lose all of their leaves because maybe you over water them or something so it is really really nice to see and of course really stands out it's very vibrant of course it has to be your vibe if plain green is more your thing i could see this standing out like a sore thumb but in my home which is just full of green plants just a sea of green i really really appreciate the plants like this and the ugly name of red emerald that just kind of stand out and pop out and really give some color and dimension to my space it's extremely easy to grow it's a great plant for hanging or trailing i have this one trailing down the side of my refrigerator which isn't even that bright light it's like eight feet away from the window so an excellent houseplant if you're working with lower light or if you were just looking for something to trail beautifully and gracefully down the side of the bookcase or your refrigerator or whatever you have in your home that you just need some beautiful greenery hanging down the side of okay so this is oh this is very similar i'm going to talk about this one so this is a plant that i think that's once again kind of overlooked but i think is really fantastic so this is peperomia scandans this is a very similar looking house plant to of course the one i was just talking about the philodendron heterasium which is also known as its alias philodendron scandan's lemon lime so pepperonis scandans philodendron scandans can you see where the names kind of come into play with each other so this one has a very very similar look to philadelphia's candidates which is i believe where it gets its name correct me if i'm wrong but this is such an incredible peperomia i think usually when you think pepperoni you're probably thinking either like obtusifolia which is that roundly pepperoni with very thick waxy foliage or maybe you're thinking of like pepperoni and caparata which is the ripple pepperoni i think those are the most common pepperonis that come to mind when we think peperomia but we don't typically think of this wonderful trailing houseplant which is so incredibly different than the other pepperonis i just mentioned and i believe has a little bit more character i just really love the heart leaf shape of these plants the way it kind of grows up right before it gets a little too heavy and will start to trail so once this one gets going after a couple more months it's really going to be a hanging beautiful plant kind of similar to the way that the philodendron heterasium or the philodendron scandans was holding itself but of course as this is a little bit more of a succulent plant it is going to have a little bit more of the upright aggressiveness to it which is very different from the philo dungeon skin and there are so many peperomias over a thousand varieties of course on the market you're only going to find like 50 but that is plenty that that is plenty enough of peperomian to love and while there are a ton of pepperonis on the market there are also a couple of other types of peperomia scandans not just this variegated one although surprisingly this is probably the most prevalent one but there's also the plain green as well as a couple of other sports that are out there one of my close friends actually recently discovered a sport that is silver has a silver hue to it so it's quite wonderful so many different kinds so not only is there so many types of peperomia to fall in love but there's so many types of peppermint scandans to fall in love with so i really enjoy this plant it really is such an underrated peperomia that i think people just really don't care about i mean i don't think people really care about pepperoni in general if we're being honest i think people care a little bit more about plants like hoya so this is a hoya puba calyx this is the the hoya that is most prevalent in my home i grow like five or six of these in my home i couldn't tell you exactly but i just can tell you every time i'm trying to downsize on my plants i think i know i have five or six i don't even know hoya pupa calyx can i get rid of one the answer is no i love them all too dearly this is actually fun fact the first hoya that i ever grew in my home i got this one as cuttings from somebody i was trading with i think three or four years ago probably three three i did three years ago i'm just young and overestimate time quite often however you can see from a plant that i've had for three years this plant really hasn't grown that much i mean keeping in mind when i got it it was two two leaf cuttings so it's grown exponentially compared to what it was however hoyas are such slow-growing houseplants that you can just really see this one has yet to take off in due time maybe it'll take off i really do find with my hoyas in my own experience i don't know if it's the conditions i'm giving them or the area of the world that i live and like the light that they're receiving but they'll just kind of get going and then they'll stop and they'll get going and they'll stop and i see other people's toys like go crazy and wild and mine don't do that mine will just put up a couple of leaves and then decide i think i'm going to take a little bit of a break and this hoyapubkayx clearly is doing that you can see got some new growth coming in got a little bit here so that's something to look forward to but as these plants are such slow-growing plants i really just appreciate them for what they are on hoyapuba kalec specifically i'm such a sucker for it because i really just love the elongated thick succulent waxy foliage it really does have a really funky waxy residue to it that i actually kind of enjoy it's kind of fun and of course in due time this plant will flower for me it's going to take some time just because it is quite small still although i have had the plant in my possession for some time so i wouldn't be surprised if it randomly spits out a peduncle and blooms for me which i would of course appreciate but just for now i'm letting it do its thing this one sits probably about three feet away from a southern facing window as it has for quite some time i actually even put this one outside in the summertime kind of expecting it to grow more than it did but it really did nothing so as i said the first year they sleep the second year they creep the third year they leap this one still seems to be sleeping but hopefully someday soon it will get leaping so can only hope for that but what else do i have to talk about today oh this one is a fun one so this one it's a little it's a little popular it's a little i don't want to i want to say overrated because i love this houseplant it's not underrated though i can tell you that much so this is a pipernum pineam cebu blue so this is just what they call the cebu blue pothos and why i'm just so keen on this house plant is similar to the philodendron heterostem lemon lime i do think that the epipen pineam versus epiphanium orium which is like your standard golden pothos or the neon pothos that i was mentioning earlier i do think that this one has a little bit more of like a bohemian vibe it's more relaxed while the epiphany orium i think gives off a little bit more of a tropical vibe which is fantastic by all means but i think for me in my home with all my wood and my ceramics and stuff i think i'm a little bit more feeling like that vintage bohemian vibe myself so i kind of lead towards that end where i know a lot of people like the more tropical foliage so it's to each their own but i really do think that this one stands out amongst the other pothos or pippernums just because of that reason alone of course the blue coloration really doesn't hurt either i really love the color in fact i will say that i have my philodendron hederatium and my one of my epiderm sitting right next to each other on top of my refrigerator because i love the way that the yellow foliage looks with the blue foliage of course the one i have in my refrigerator is much fuller than the one i have for example today but of course i'm going to choose the smallest plant to hold as my example because it's just so much easier on me but this is such a great house plant this is one that i of course propagated from cuttings um and just like my hoya pubic calyx this is a very prevalent plant in my home i'd say out of all the pothos or epipens i have in my home this is one that once again i have like five or six of these scattered around my home because i just love them so much and side note i do of course want to point out the pot that i made for this i love the little uh kind of turquoise color i think it goes perfectly with the blue color of the pothos but like i said this one's a little pop a little popular a little overrated sometimes like i said i don't want to i don't want to call it overrated i just noticed on like social media that people kind of go bonkers for this plant when i don't think it's necessarily worth going bonkers for but like i said i love this plant and i appreciate it for all the reasons above it's come a long way this is one that you know was a little bit more difficult to get your hands on i know outside the united states i would not consider this a common plant whatsoever this is a plant that's really only common in the united states at least in my area of the united states philadelphia this is one that you could walk into house plant stores these days and you're going to find it in like little hanging baskets or maybe you'll walk into your local lowe's or home depot or walmart and you'll find it growing in the exotic angel collection i know they have that now and i've been seeing the monstera of pecan in that collection have you guys been seeing that i'm like whoa that's such a cool house plant and i would love to see it in mass quantities like you see with these big full baskets of cebu blue so totally off topic but i wouldn't mind running in two of those and finding a full pot of monsterous pecan i love it it's so fantastic anyway a pepperoni pineapple sibling blue i'm totally getting off topic i know you guys don't really care about that but i'm going to move on because now i am just rambling about this ever so lovely houseplant hopefully in the areas of the world in the united states where it is less prevalent it will become a little bit more widespread soon because it's such an incredible houseplant and it kind of confuses me why it's not as readily available because just like the golden pothos and the neonpathos and all of the above it is so easy to propagate a couple of the ones i have in my home are propagations that i've done because it's just such a fast grower just like golden pothos so in due time if it's not in your area i feel very confident that in due time it is going to be a very common house plant just like it is now in my area so the last one i'm going to talk about today is one of my favorite house plants this is peperomia and kana i'm sure i've talked about this plant in countless videos although i don't think i've talked about it in a couple of months so give me a pass but this is just really one of my favorite house plans you can see how excited i'm getting to talk about it it's just so darling it is so incredibly felted i think sometimes i call this like the felted pepper face plant but oh my god yes that's what it says felted pepper face as you can see right here so pepperoni and kana and i really just love the little bit of like differences like i was saying with the pepperoni scandans that makes this plant so different than the other pepperonis that i'm so used to seeing it is it's a succulent house plant but the way that the leaves feel make it kind of feel less succulent than say the pepperoni obtusifolia simply because this plant is not waxy at all instead of being waxy this plant is completely felted as we said it's literally completely encased in a layer of felt that i don't even know how well it's showing and i'm sure i'm just getting dirt all over the leaves but it is so incredibly wonderful i'm never able to keep my hands off it the entirety of the plant the petioles the stem everything is completely just covered in this layer of fuzz or felt these characteristics that this plant has the feltedness and the blue glacis color kind of translates as this plant takes sunlight incredibly well which is why i'm growing it in my southern facing windows but it really is such a great plant if you are struggling to find something for your window because it's too bright and you don't want to grow cacti or succulents although this is a decently succulent plant i would say this is much more on the realm of a house plant and one that i absolutely love and like i said would recommend to practically everyone of course do you need a little bit of a bright light space to grow this i'd say yes for it to go to its fullest potential but this is once again one that i actually grew right next to my refrigerator which is like eight feet away from window and i think it actually flourished there of course it just had to acclimate to that space over time i think if i just brought this right home from a greenhouse and just shoved it in a darker corner of my home it wouldn't take very well but say if you're like propagating cuttings of this plant and starting it in the darker area i think it would do decently well my concept did do something well for me but as always there is just so much to love about this houseplant if you are a person who likes to stroke the leaves of your house pants and just feel um this is a plant that you're going to need because this is one that i really cannot keep my hands off when i'm in its vicinity so that's going to do it for today's video house plants that i would recommend wholeheartedly to everyone whether you're a beginning gardener or somebody who's been growing house plants for a number of years i think all of these plants are things you've been growing because they're just going to improve the quality of your life and the quality of the space that you're living in so thank you guys so much for joining me today if you don't already follow me on instagram at philly foliage subscribe to my channel and i will see you guys in my next video have a great day
