this is the lock-picking lawyer and what i have for you today is the apis granite model 3780 this is I believe the most secure padlock sold by APIs and it features the highly pick resistant abus plus core in addition to being pick resistant this lock is also physically very imposing it's 80 millimeters across is made of solid hardened steel it weighs about two and a half pounds and it has a high shackle guard protecting this 14 millimeter shackle we're going to try to pick into this lock today but before we start a couple of notes first I'm told that this has an older version of the abus plus Coronet on the older versions you can tension from the front of the keyway and I'm told on the newer versions and the current production abus granites you have to tension it from the back of the keyway what that means is that you have to use a different tool depending on when your lock was made the other thing to note is that I have picked this lock several times before so I'm very familiar with it and might pick time is going to be correspondingly low if I were to pick one of these up right now that I had never seen before it'd probably take me much longer to open up so all of that said let's get to picking this guy open the first thing we're going to do is rotate all of the disks as far clockwise as they will go I think we've got them where we want them then we will insert this disc detainer pic okay I think I've got that where I want it okay let's get to picking okay the first disc seems to be loose nothing there to move on to the second okay second I got maybe a little bit of movement out of here he's still mushy I'm gonna leave him alone third ones little mushy I'm gonna leave him alone as well for got a little click out of him five is binding tightly got a click there six six is moving definitely not binding and seven nothing at all let's go back to the beginning okay the first one still loose second one is definitely moving third one is binding a little tighter now got a little click out of here and a little movement on the core as well four is moving five is moving six yup he's moving as well seven is binding got a click out of him and a little bit more movement on the core back to the beginning one is binding okay got a click out of him and there might be moving I'm not sure let me leave him alone for now two is not binding three is binding tightly ok got a click out of him and some movement on him now four is moving five is moving six is moving and so seven back to the number one disk and he's bound tightly now and there we go got the lock open okay let's take this guy apart and I will show you what's inside one of these granite discs detainer cores the first thing we have to do to take this apart is remove this small allen screw I believe it's a three millimeter allen screw okay let me get my pinning tray so we can start putting the parts in there and then we have to drive a pin that's behind here straight through the lock so to do that I'm going to put this rod through that hole that I just inserted I just took the screw out of and give it a couple whacks with a hammer okay there we go got that pin out and now this top piece should come right off after that we can take out the actuator and next we have to be very very careful in removing the core because if we are not careful we will dump all of these discs out and I just lost one it was only the anti drill desk so that's not too bad okay let me zoom in on here show you that we have the side bar in there right now drop that side bar out and now we're going to start removing each of these discs one by one and I'm just going to line them up right across here okay this first disk is always zero bitted in the far the far turned position and we have our first disk with actual bidding on it all these little washers in the back are just spacers nothing important about them I'm just gonna pile them up in the back a third disc with bidding on it the fourth disc 6:7 now we have just one more disc in the back and that's always zero bidded as well okay before I give you a total picture of all of these let me give you a close-up of one now if we look at this we can see that on the outside of this disc we have 1 - false gates come on focus for me there we go 1 - false gates and then one much deeper true gate and those false gates really do make picking significantly harder it's something that I think all disk detainer locks should have and frankly they're not that hard to to put on these disks particularly since most of these Chinese locks have stamped discs so it would be really really easy just to stamp these out with the the false gates in them but for some reason none of the Chinese disk detainer lock makers that I've seen Italy so far do include those and it would be a very easy step to make the lock much harder to pick so this this abus plus core is a legitimately tricky lock to open so let me give you a close-up of all of these little parts ok we're gonna go down the row of disks and then we have all our little spacers in the back the sidebar in slot 8 of the pinning tray and that's it so that's all I have for you on this abus granite model 37 80 if you do have any questions or comments please put them below if you like this video and would like to see more like it please subscribe and as always have a nice day thank you
