lock their jaws on all the teeth are angled backwards just a little bit in the mouth so think like a fish ribs yeah so if you actually try to pull your hand out it actually locks the teeth in even more and then they take the middle part of the body well maybe we should do like a demonstration of what it would look like they take the tail and they kind of wrap it up and around like that and then they would take this part of the tail and wrap it up and around the other direction right and then they just start to squeeze down her tail is touching my back i think she's trying to scratch me why threatened with danger what they'll do is they'll take their hand and squeeze out some of the sticky smelly goo a lot of times they'll kind of wipe it on their tail and everything they'll mix it with something i don't really like to talk about and basically they throw it at you it's a lemur stink fight so he actually has hands and doesn't that have pause he kind of scoops things up and he's like of zoos and everything got involved in planting trees in madagascar yeah and that's one of the things that we work with is conservation organizations like that that are planting trees in madagascar ecotourism you all just went to hawaii and you saw some animals mongooses mongoose there you go well see when people go to natural places like that and spend money they're actually helping to protect when you know all the animals especially being at the rainforest cafe man come on bro nick i checked everywhere man i cannot find her this is so bogus i found a giant dumbo elephant i tried to make an elephant noise you just keep popping up out of nowhere i don't know what to do so i forgot the price for this last clue but the last clue's so good that it makes up for it okay okay okay remember i don't i don't know if i hear anything man i'm well what does a slot a slot doesn't even make any noise well yeah i know but like it's i just have to think maybe i wherever the people are wherever i hear all the people that must mean where the sloth is okay i'm smart man i know this so like well it sounds like there's a lot of people in the kitchen i mean we can go check the kitchen first why don't we just check the kitchen then what are we doing um what what oh she's so cute what are you looking at right now carrots can't we dave can we feed her yeah just watch your fingers so they move slowly as what everyone thinks but when they need to they can move lightly lightning quick especially when there's food involved or if they're protecting territory so this is molasses molasses is a uh about a two-year-old two-toed sloth that was uh a rescue from the wild so zach this is dave the critter man he is basically an animal expert so like if you have any questions about sloths or any other animal he probably has got you covered okay i can ask a question why do they move their heads like all around like that what's going on with that so trying to figure out where the food is right now because they don't have vision that for distance basically everything that they see is going to be pretty close to them so if anything gets outside about five feet away they can't really focus on it so kind of like smelling she knows the foods back behind there somewhere so she's just trying to see if she can get out there and get it so you just want to be nice and gentle and quiet and let her just reach out and just like fingertips just like you're doing and see how she's able to actually use the claws to get hold of the food what i did not know they can see zach you just fed us i just fed a sloth this is crazy so slots are your favorite animals yes so what do you know about sloths well i just know they're lazy obviously well that's kind of you know i don't know if that's reasonably it's not like they're lazy no they're efficient we like to think of sloths as efficient the reason they move the way they do is because they don't get a lot of energy from their food they basically just eat leaves and so you can imagine if you just ate green salads and nothing else there's not a lot of energy so they're using their their energy like super efficiently this allows them uh to be able to you know use that energy and still be able to move around and survive out in the wild i've been told before that they move so slow that they actually grab or they grow bacteria on their fur is that true it's close it's algae okay yeah and algae and they have this this really cool symbiotic species that only exists uh because of sloths it's a moth oh wow yeah and the moth actually helps the the algae to develop in their fur and so the only time they the moths ever kind of move away from the slaws as the sloth slowly climbs down the tree well there's something that they don't do very often and so why do you think they might climb out of the tree very rarely but they have to climb out once in a while i don't know if this is you know this might be a potty question it is a potty question we went there there's two choices both numbers number two there you go number two yes yeah and so there's actually a couple of theories when they climb down they only do this uh once a week at the most i mean that would be a lot um sometimes as little as once a month and so they climb down and they they go to the bathroom we'll just say that and the moths uh one theory is that they lay the eggs in there and that completes the life cycle them off the algae would not exist on the sloths without the moths the moths don't exist without the sloths and of course the algae that grows on them is camouflage to hide from predators yeah because they have these predators like harpy eagles and there's some ringtail cats occasionally i suppose like an ocelot or something like a jaguar that's really ambitious going up a tree might be able to make a meal out of them other than that most of the time in their life they're safe unless they come down to the ground and they only do it for that reason can you imagine you're trying to go potty and then somebody's just like coming in your space honestly i i just can't believe you'd actually like give me a surprise like this like you're actually giving me a sloth this is like the craziest no no this is just a special visit yeah oh i shall visit from so the sloth isn't mine i mean for like an hour you can visit with her but i mean but yeah like i think she likes me i think we're on a good relationship now i think i'm ready man for a slot just give me five minutes i'm gonna go get some pet supplies i think i'm ready to actually take this thing on for my own i'll be back dave i don't think he gets it no he definitely doesn't get it uh first of all he doesn't need to go to the pet store you just get well we're feeding sweet potato and got a little zucchini here so i don't think that he had to go to the pet store for that i'm kind of concerned about what he's going to bring back they don't sell bags or cans of sloth food so this will be interesting
