what's up everyone chris cage here founder of green belly meals here are five of my favorite and backpacking recipes I'm going to go over a chili mac jerky noodles Mediterranean couscous chicken and rice and lentil curry now the goal of these is not to be gourmet in the back country the goal is to make fast and hopefully tasty one-pot meals these are all five ingredients or less and should be able to be made in less than 15 minutes all meals range in the 600 to 700 calorie range recipes will be in the description below please adjust the ratios and portions to how you want it and for a point of reference the pot I'm using is a 1 liter pot alright so let's dive in chili mac a back country classic these dried beans from a company called mother earth products instant macaroni noodles cheddar cheese I actually chose to shred mine and chili powder this is a pre-mixed powder but you can make it at home usually just chili tomato garlic and onion powder and some salt mixed together so you're gonna add water at about a two-to-one volume ratio with the beans and the noodles so in other words use 2 cups of water for 1 cup of dried beans and noodles bring your water to a boil add the beans and first let those boil for about 10 minutes then add the noodles for about 5 more minutes when that's ready mixing the cheese and chili powder [Music] got jerky noodles one of these simplest and surprisingly tastiest meals on here rice noodles love these cook really fast beef jerky I usually shred it down a bit so it's not too clumpy when I'm actually eating it in the pot and peanut butter is optional but highly recommended add water to your pot at about a two-to-one volume ratio again with the noodles bring it to a boil add the noodles wait about 15 minutes for those to cook you really want to make sure to stir frequently so they don't get sticky and then add the beef jerky with a nice glob of peanut butter Mediterranean couscous a vegetarian meal that is super fast couscous great stuff cooks fast I love it Parmesan cheese pesto mix valley fresh offers a good pre-made packet all is these are actually kalamata you can use sun-dried tomatoes you can also add meat like tuna or salmon you're gonna add water at about a three to one ratio at the couscous boil the water add couscous and wait about five to 10 minutes for it to fluff up mix in everything else the pesto mix parmesan and olives [Music] chicken and rice going to use cooked chicken preferably not something with sodium phosphate Valley fresh offers natural precooked chicken packets instant rice I used minute rice dried broccoli olive oil I usually keep it in these little travel bottles soy sauce you can get these for free at most grocery stores - pouring water at about a two-to-one ratio with the broccoli and rice boil add broccoli for about five minutes first then add the rice for an additional five minutes when that's ready add chicken and soy sauce and olive oil lentil curry another favorite dried lentils some sort of dried veggie blend this is actually peas carrots and corn again from other earth products there are a lot of these types of veggie mixes out there though curry powder this is just like a chili mix it's pre-mixed but look for ones with the common curry ingredients like coriander cumin turmeric black pepper ginger and cayenne and coconut oil we'll add that at the end pour water at about a two-to-one ratio with your lentils and veggie blend boil add lentils and veggies at the same time wait about 10 to 15 minutes when that's ready stir in the curry powder and a nice chunk of coconut oil or in warmer months you will probably pour it so there you go five of my favorite one pot backpacking meal recipes hope you enjoyed [Music]
