[Music] hey guys Casey Farris here I make videos on DaVinci Resolve here on YouTube make sure to subscribe for more of that that'd be neat hey I was already thinking about doing some 3d text infusion and I got this comment the other day what sad you wanted to know how you could become more legendary alright let me hook you up with the deets if you could show us common folk how to make 3d text with the brush metal finish that would seal the deal and earn yourself another notch on the belt of awesome what say you good sir I say let's do that let's go so I have some 3d text made and lit if you don't know how to do any of that check out this video right here ah this one as it teaches you all about that but right now we're just focusing on kind of the brushed metal texture thing so long story short how you add texture to things is you have to replace the material okay the material being like what a 3d thing is actually made out of its like the pretend stuff it's built from so down in our nodes we're gonna work on this text 3d this is just our 3d text we made as a bevel on it already looks pretty nice but we're gonna replace what this is made out of and I'm gonna do that shockingly with a replace material 3d note have been replaced and replacement material 3d is what I want okay now down in our nodes after our text 3d we have replace material 3d great nothing's happening because we haven't actually replaced it with anything so let's replace it with something the first thing we're going to need is actually a material so I'm gonna click off of things shift spacebar and I'm gonna type bli n Blin is a 3d material and without getting into specifics it just has all the features we need okay I'm gonna grab the output and drag it into you replace material 3d and now it has all kinds of inputs around this thing like diffuse color which is just what color things are specular intensity specular exponent specular color and bump map that's the one that's gonna be tasty first thing we need to do is actually give it some color which we can do with an image so let's grab an image I'll open up my media pool and I happen to have this nice little texture it's this kind of brushed metal looking texture and I'll hit f2 just to rename this and I'll call this brushed color and I'll connect the output of that to my yellow input which is our color and now looking over in our right-hand viewer we can start to see that little texture that's pretty cool and because I have this animated and like lights sweeping around it we can really see it when it's lit up like that but to make this even better we can add a bump map a bump map is just a black and white image that kind of fakes detail on things for instance if you want something to look bumpy you would use a bump map this is pure science I happen to have a texture that is made to be a bump map I'll grab that for whatever material you're using probably just google that and what this really is is just a higher contrast version of my original texture there are fancy ways to make these but for something like this that'll totally do again I'm going to rename this brush bump now it surely would seem that you could connect this to the bump map input but you can't the reason for that is because it wants to think about it first with a special node called bump map open up our select tools and I'll type bump map this is kind of just like thinking about it and processing it before it actually makes it into a bump map so you can take the output of this and drag that onto that white input and things will work out just fine the defaults should probably work pretty well let's take a look at our image now we'll see that this specular is a little bit rougher so you can kind of see like the texture on the image more than you would if I disconnect that bump map you see it's just a little bit more blurry it's not really not really as interesting I'll hit control Z so we can see that and redo undo and redo so that's the difference between having a bump map on there and not this bump map is probably a little bit strong which we can adjust by selecting our bump map node and going over to the inspector and this height scale we can just drag that down that's kind of just like the strength of this thing and we'll just drag it down until it's like tasteful this is too crazy and bring it down to something reasonable and now we have a pretty nice-looking brushed metal texture we'll do a little preview nice so that definitely looks like a brush metal thing there are a lot of details and stuff that you could mess with but that's basically how you would do it getting into texturing things is so much fun I hope you guys enjoyed this if you want to learn more about 3d and compositing and things like that in fusion I have a playlist right here that'll teach you all the things about that or at least the things that I taught at least the things that I posted about at least those things yeah not gonna over promise it's just okay
