Interesting to see the changes they made. Physical security is definitely a sum of all parts in my opinion, and you can see here how features do not always add up to total security.

We had these on lockers in school too so I have memories of the pain it was to remember and put in combinations when you were in a hurry!

I love decoding these without using apps. It's a simple little device you can carry around and tinker with. There's a great video out there explaining the math and mechanics.

Looks more like a gorilla bar. Crow bars are more angled and hexagonal.

this is the lock-picking lawyer we are behind my house with a couple of master locks today because what we are gonna do is see what it takes to open these guys up without picking without manipulation all we're gonna do is hit them with a hammer I remember back in college we used to use these in our lock boxes I went to a military school and the fast way to open these things up was just to hit them with the butt of an m14 and they would pop right open since then these locks have been completely redesigned if you look down the shackle hole you can see there's a little anti shim locking lug in there and my understanding is much of the inside of these locks has been redesigned so I wanted to see if we could still open these things up with a nice sharp blow so I got a couple of these locks these are brand new just took them out of the box and we're gonna see what it takes to open them up I've got a crowbar and a nice big hammer I'm just gonna put the crowbar right here all that's gonna do is make sure the hammer doesn't slip off of them and I'm gonna give it a nice sharp wrap okay the first one didn't quite open it up we're gonna try it one more time put it right on top there and not quite though it's there we go opened up and we completely destroyed the inside of that I'll show you that a little bit better in a moment but let's see what it takes to open the other one up now put this guy on there and we're gonna do the exact same thing see put our put our crowbar right here and then I'm trying to let's see if we can open it with just one shot this time there we go one nice sharp hit with a hammer and these things pop right open okay give me just a moment let me take these locks inside to the table and I'll show you what the insides look like okay we are back inside with the two locks that we just opened up and I have to say even though these opened I am relatively pleased with the results of this when I was opening these locks with the butt of an m14 2530 years ago they opened up very very easily no damage to the locks the lock still worked not the case anymore we were able to get into these locks but we had to hit them a lot harder than I was expecting and the blows were very very destructive I mentioned there was a redesign of these locks and that redesign was focused on making sure these locks were no longer symbol and it just so happens the main piece that was redesigned is the piece that fell out of the first lock what we opened up so let's take a close look at that this is the locking lug and you can see on the top we have these two little notches what they're designed to do is to catch a shim insert it between the shackle and the lock body and snag them so they can't be used so the shim can't be used to separate the shackle from the locking lug they also master lock squared off the sides of this locking lug the reason they did that was to prevent someone from inserting a shim on the side of the shackle and rotating it around between the shackle and the locking lug if someone tried that now the shim would just stop on the squared edge of the locking lug so great changes it's a very welcome change that these are no longer simple however it has been several decades so I'd say it's about time as far as opening these with a hammer again a disappointment that it is still possible but I'm glad to see there's a little bit more resistance to that and certainly glad to see that it was a destructive form of entry I hate the fact that on the old ones you can open them up with little to no destructive evidence on the lock themselves on this one we we rip the locking lug completely out totally deform the the lock body and obviously no one's ever using this one again on this lock you can see we still have the locking lug in there certainly deform the lock body this one oh it does close in fact let's uh let's see if it still opens up this is number 77 okay here's our combination refresh my memory right three left right okay okay 20 and turn left past 20 and stop on 22 and then turn right stopping on 16 nope that does not work anymore we do have that lock on the back let's see if that little that little key lock bypass works it's a really tiny little key way so let's try these little wiper insert bottom of the key way and the sparrows SS dev short hook okay little click at a one-twos loose little click on three four I think I got something out of four give me my pick back okay choose binding there we go I think we got him open hmm okay so the key still works but the combination does not clearly destructive but at least there's some way to get into this after after it's open that way though I suspect we probably could open it with a hammer again without too much trouble so overall disappointing that we are able to open these locks with a hammer I am happy to see that these locks have been improved but I have to say master lock it's not enough anytime you can come up to a padlock hit it with a hammer and open it up you know that is a poor poor design so that's all I have for you today if you have any questions or comments about this video please put them below if you liked the video and would like to see more like it please subscribe and as always have a nice day thank you
