hello people and welcome back to another episode of city skylines modular builds hope you're all having a wonderful day today we're gonna have a look at three different types of service interchange that we can use to get people on and off the highway and this is something i've usually lacked inspiration with is you know you always kind of gravitate towards that roundabout with the highway flowing either under or over so today we'll have a look at three different designs that are also quite interesting and very easy to decorate that are going to allow our sims to come on and off the highway in various different styles and fashions so let's get started shall we so the first one to look at today is probably the easiest of the three and we're going to start by doing a portion of our highway usually about 50 tiles of highway deletion should be enough room to accommodate this thing going to our roads and then jump over to our highways we're going to grab the two-lane one-way highway from mass transit and then we're going to start drawing this in we're going to come out by 10 tiles which of course is indicated by this blue line you want to make sure that all of our snapping is on for this you want to come out by 10 out by another 10 and then come down and then out by another tent on the ground back above ground by ten and then hook back into the highway and then repeat this on the opposite side so everyone's snapping to the road length and the road guideline we're all nice and happy and symmetrical they're going to come into either a large road or a medium where you can use six or four lane for this i want to go with six lane and then we're going to line this up right in the middle snap into that road guideline and then you want to draw this up to now connect into the rest of your city so this could be a connection to your downtown could be a suburb whatever feeds off this road is entirely up to you then we'll come back into our highways and we're going to grab the highway ramp and we're going to come on to this road guideline right here okay and we're going to draw back into the arterial road then we're going to come out by 120 and then get a nice smooth connection back into the highway and likewise repeat this on the remaining three sides so a tip here to check the distance between the arterial and where the road curves in you can just redraw this and find out it's a distance of 572 which allows you to repeat that measurement on all sides and we're going to come to this road guideline that is parallel with where the tunnel starts we're going to come down onto the highway ramp move over by two snap nodes on that road and then we're going to draw it down into the arterial until we get a totally straight weird at 45 degree angle and again we can just use that same measurement tip to find out it's a distance of 570. so we can draw that back up that perfectly straight angle and we know we're parallel here because the tiles either side of the main road they're going to be perfectly shattered and mirrored on either side okay so there's five straight either side and then you have these three shard ones beneath so you can use the grid to make sure that everyone is parallel and happy okay and then again we want to repeat this on this side now as well and of course just make sure your directions are set up nicely you want to come into our infrared views and we want to come into traffic routes junctions and turn off the traffic lights here so this one it's a very simple um service interchange has multiple different directions of flow so if people are traveling from this direction and want to get onto this highway they have this little slip lane which is faster for them they don't have to come and clog this junction here it's going to keep everyone flowing nicely in terms of decoration this one's very easy to decorate some nice repeat tree patterns down the middle i've always appreciated okay use whatever trees you like for this it's really up to you and then some fencing that always goes a long way with these things as well i'd recommend just snapping into the grid for your fencing designs here okay that also angles when you're coming down the side so you can just bring these in if you want to take it more industrial looking feel free to use some oil fence here and of course some overgrowth in around the larger patches is always appreciated and then don't be afraid to kind of fence off these little slip roads as well if you wanted to all right some smaller rocks perhaps really is where you can kind of get creative with your decoration here okay so this one it's pretty effective it's nice and easy to decorate and it looks pretty cool as well to kind of have the little diamond triangle slip words once it's decorated up it kind of fits really nicely into the city it will handle pretty much all types of traffic i've got this hooked into industrial commercial and residential and the ai uses the slip lanes as they should do they read it as the faster route rather than head into that six lane arterial through the middle and it has some really nice traffic flow as well okay so for the next design we're going to come into our routes we're going to grab a regular two-lane one-way you can use industrial road if you want for a slightly different aesthetic it's really up to you and then any road guideline along your highway we're going to find it we're going to come to that 10 marker which is the next circle along and we're going to draw out by five tiles and then draw a five deep roundabout just by generating that blue line which shows us we're at five so nice small roundabout then we're gonna do the same thing again on this side so we have two little roundabouts that are equal distance away from the highway everyone's going to be happy they're going to come into again either a large or medium road it's entirely up to you and you can use whichever road you want and if you have the content creator box feel free to use one of those here as well i'll just use the regular vanilla word for right now we want to come on to our straight road tour and then from the roundabout we're going to draw out up to the highway and then with our lowest elevation step we're going to elevate by three points and then we're going to come out by distance of 1220 on either side okay then hook in through the middle and this will give us a nice bridge over the point right so i guess this is a variation of the uh dumbbell interchange so this is what we're looking at at the minute it kind of looks like a dog bone right or a dumbbell whichever one you want to call it once we have our initial bridge in they want to come back to the highway using our two-line one-way road then we're going to come over to this 20 road guideline right here again these smaller blue circles on the road they only appear if your weird guideline snapping is on so they're not there for you make sure that this is turned on then we're going to come to this 20 marker and then we're going to come up by one snap node and the distance from the road to the highway is 120 in cost if you want to continue to use those road measurements we're going to draw in a distance of 160 and then using the new road guideline that comes off this road we're going to come across by four snap points so that would be one two three and four and then draw in another distance of 160 okay no one's going to be happy there then we want to do is draw in another road parallel to this so we can use this as a snap point here because we want to get directly in the middle and i'm going to come up and make a little t like this and then trim off the initial road that we started i'm going to grab a curved road tool and we're going to curve up and snap to the road guard line of the roundabout and then we want to draw this across snapping to the road guideline of that 160 road that we drew in down at the bottom here and then create a connection this of course needs to be a two-way road however this is also a good excuse to use the asymmetrical from mass transit if you have it okay and we want the two lane of the asymmetrical flowing into the roundabout then we come back into our one-way road then we're going to grab the freeform tool and then we're going to just gently curve into the junction like that okay and then of course we now want to come through with our directions make sure that everyone is happy and then these curves back onto the highway are going to be 360. and then we're going to have a nice little smooth flowy junction some nice curves in here okay then what you can do of course if you want to come back and actually upgrade these into highway ramp of course you can just so people get a little bit faster it's kind of up to you there's also some nice things you can do here if you're playing with mods within section marking tool getting some kind of chevrons on this junction but of course we're playing vanilla here today and essentially you want to go ahead and do exactly the same thing now before this side instead okay so i'll speed this up and we'll get it hooked in and then we can talk about some decoration so once again we have something that looks identical either side of the highway and it's not just a case of hooking this into your pre-existing road network or indeed the start of a new network if you want you know and you also have the option to bring in another connection into this one because we have this node free on the right side of the roundabout so if you want to start a new area then you can do you have that option in terms of decoration for these things at the roundabouts we can come into our terraforming tools then we can raise the middle of our roundabouts with the shift terrain tool a nice big central tree on here is always appreciated right get these in and do the same with this one as well slightly raise the middle and just a singular tree in the center and also come in some nature's fence in here as well and you can snap to the road guideline with your curve tool and then keep the vents nice and centralized in the middle okay maybe some bits of happier overgrowth around the center and perhaps some little bushes as well now even detail and as small as this is it's important it adds personality into our builds rather than just having it more kind of gray field right at some zoo fence will work really nicely for aligning the slip roads with no snapping on with your straight row tool you can come in here and draw in this equally as much nature as a fence will also work nicely and as well farm fence too lots of different variations of course you don't have to use fencing you can also just draw in a bush line if you want okay maybe decorate out with some of the colorful trees if you want there's really you know this is where your own imagination comes into it as to how you want to just fill out these little areas to add just a touch more personality into the interchange if you want to bring in some larger rocks you do have the space within these slip roads to bring that in so you can get involved with some of that if you wish really is endless possibilities so i'll detail this up and we'll take a look at some traffic flow so again this is another really simple and easy to create interchange highly customizable in terms of decoration you can use a lot of different things here this is also really nice interchangeably getting some asset placement right up against the highway so maybe some unique factories if you want to take a little bit more industrial or indeed build off some frontage roads off of that spare node you have on the roundabout to help position some commercial more residential up against the highway but do bear in mind if you're residential that just factor in that noise pollution and you can also use the highway with sound barriers if you do want to get some residential a little bit close to this interchange but some nice traffic flow and it looks great okay so this third and final one is a little bit quirkier and a designer kind of stumbled across by accident just playing around with some kind of different ideas so let's build this together so we're going to come into our highway roads and we want uh the highway ramp for this and we're going to find a snap point on that against the highway and we're going to come onto that first snap point then we're going to draw in a distance of 1800 in cost or 60 tiles in total and then again you want to repeat this on the opposite side of the highway so we're nice and symmetrical we're going to grab our medium road or large if you choose whatever type of r2 you want to feed into this thing and then within the middle we're going to now draw out our arterial connections and again hook this into any side of your city that you wish all right just want to have this design for right now so now we're left with something that looks a little bit like this we're going to come back into our routes we're going to come to small roads and grab any two-way road you want industrial road can be quite a nice aesthetic for this if you want to take a little more industrial looking but any small road will be fine and then we want our road guidelines snap point because we need to see these smaller blue circles and we want to come 15 tiles up from the slip road where the arterial meets it so this would be 10 and then halfway in between these is going to be 15. and then we're going to draw out with a length of 5 and a single elevation point okay you can see how the aesthetic changes here if you upgrade this into industrial slightly more industrial looking as you would expect okay now from this point we're going to curve again by five tiles and then bring it up by five tiles now we want to elevate by two steps here okay so this is going to allow us to clear the highway now we want to draw these roads in quite precisely because of what we want to do with some other ramps so from the top of the curve towards the highway we're going to come out by 600 then we're going to come into the middle of the highway by a distance of 530 we're going to repeat that distance across to the other side of the highway by 530 and then remembering that distance from the first pillar to the top of the curve our distance of 600 we're going to repeat that over this side again now and then we're going to come down with that curvier tool again we're going to curve by five and this time it's inverted so we're going to drop by two steps and then back to the straight row tool and then back into the arterial road which will give us some wonderful symmetry either side of the highway and i have a nice little bridge going across here so there's some nice layers of height within this interchange so once you have your bridge in we're going to come into any uh small road again that you want it to be one way this time so because i'm using industrial road i will stick with that one-way industrial we're going to come down by 11 tiles until we meet the ground again on this side i'm going to hook our ramp into the highway now a distance of 240 and making sure that your directions are correct and then from this point we can now hook into this little ramp that we've drawn all right now we want to repeat something similar on this side except this time we're going to cross over the arterial road so we're going to come over and once we're across we then want to descend by 11 tiles come back down to earth back into the highway ramp and then again you know just use that redraw trick to make sure that everyone is at correct and level so this distance here is a distance of 270. so we can easily repeat that on this side as well and then again just make sure that your directions are all flowing the same way and then you want to bring these highway ramps back into the highway now just like this and change those directions so this is the uh the base idea of the interchange okay so it's a little bit kind of quirky looking in terms of the the bridge network that comes over the highway but it's something a little bit different okay something a little bit more unique uh this is an interchange that i use in palaven for those that follow this series this was over by the suburban tram town right by the highway next to the forest industry and we did use it as a three-way in that capacity but it can also be adapted to function um as a four-way service interchange in this capacity as well and then we'll just have a little look at the traffic flow and see how people move the traffic lights in this interchange aren't actually a bad idea and keeping them on the arterial roads it can just help to kind of stagger the traffic build up if that's what you're finding i've got industrial areas and residential areas hooked into this thing and there it's going to flow nicely in terms of decorating this thing we can have a look at some fencing again of course some zoo fencing as always a very firm favorite snap into that road guard line in the middle and then just line in this zoo fence up to the central pillar just with the angle snap then back onto the rear guard line in the middle and then bring it down to the start so lots of very symmetrical fence designs work really nicely with this type of interchange maybe even downgrade the fence into [Music] perhaps a touch of farm if you want as we come into these slip roads so various different types of designs of course because we're playing with layers of height here now with bridges kind of coming up and over some larger trees that can really help complement this thing nice excuse to use some of the redwoods if you want to okay don't be afraid as well to actually use power lines as decoration for an interchange it can be quite nice to see the aesthetic of the power cables that feed alongside these larger interchanges i'm sure many of us have driven down a highway or a motorway before in our lifetime and you often see these very long straight power lines running parallel uh with these high speed modes so what is usually quite a ugly and unappealing asset in the power line it can actually be used at a fairly nice extent in terms of decorating an interchange like this as with the other two that we've looked at today as well so i'll get this thing decorated up and then we'll have a look at some traffic flow so we also forgot to mention for this interchange you want to downgrade into two lane for the highway roads that sit between the two slip roads just so you get in those lane mathematics it's not massively essential but it can help with traffic flow but quite a quirky looking interchange really nice to decorate as well in terms of using the redwoods to kind of complement those layers of height with the road and i've also thrown in a road maintenance depot as well so feel free to use some of those more awkward service assets to decorate your interchanges as well they don't generate that much traffic so you can afford to place them on these roads right near highways lots of overgrowth and rocks around these things and some nice symmetrical fences and through the middle can really just help bring our interchanges to life a little bit more okay guys that is going to do it for us today i want to thank you all so much for watching if you've enjoyed the video likes comments and shares below really help out my channel equals much if you haven't enjoyed it please feel free to leave a dislike as well i hope these have helped you maybe come up with some inspiration for service interchange designs it's always something i've struggled with in the vanilla game is how to get people on and off the highway in an efficient manner but also make it look good as well and i'm kind of happy with these three designs they're all highly customizable in terms of decoration and they have really nice traffic flow as well i will leave some cinematics at the end if you want to check out these interchanges with a little bit of music and see how the traffic flows around them but i hope this module build has managed to help you in some way at least but otherwise i will shut up and i will leave it there i want to thank you all so much for watching and as always enjoy the rest of your day [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you
