So here it is this is my 2023 Tesla Model Y  performance and today I'm going to show you   around the new car talk about the specs features  my experience so far and what is missing compared   to the earlier models now I know the model y isn't  new I mean the US have had it for just over a year   now and the long range has been in the UK for  about six months but the performance model only   landed in the UK a couple of weeks ago which I  actually ordered back in October 2021 so first   thoughts on the model y I really like it and I'm  happy with the color and the spec that I've gone   for the stance the color combination the wheels  everything about it looks awesome but comparing   it to my model 3 this thing is big now I knew it  was going to be bigger but I didn't realize just   how much taller it was going to be compared  to the model 3 but that's not a bad thing I   actually quite like how it sits especially on  the 21 inch wheels so when I ordered this I   could either collect it from Manchester which is  about a 200 mile round trip from York or look at   how it delivered to my home which is the option  I went with now over the last 13 months it's been   a really long wait and to be honest I didn't get  many updates other than a few estimated delivery   dates one phone call all on the final balance  request once I'd paid the balance I received   my VIN and registration plate which was about  10 days before the car was delivered and then   on the delivery day I got a phone call from the  driver just confirming my midday delivery slot   unfortunately he couldn't bring it to the house as  it's a pretty narrow entrance onto the drive so we   unloaded it on the roadside instead I gave it a  once over for any panel gaps or paint issues but   it looked good to me now having experienced both  a store collection previously and a home delivery   this time for convenience I would definitely opt  for the home delivery again the in-store Handover   isn't anything special there's no car under a  cover reveal it's a case of looking for your   car on a car park and driving off so as mentioned  I've gone for the performance model y this time   and that's in Midnight silver which is basically a  darker gray with a hint of blue personally I think   this is the best color choice on this car it looks  stealthy and understated and it definitely has the   look that I wanted to go for and as this is the  performance model it does come with a few extras   that you won't find on the other model wise this  includes the larger 21-inch Uber turbine wheels   and for me these look so good on the car you  could argue a set of 22s would fill the Arches   even better but they definitely look nicer than  the smaller wheels found on the long range the   tires are 255 on the front and the wider 275 on  the rear so replacing these are not going to be   fun and behind the wheels are the performance  brakes and the red calipers these are a nice   contrast against the darker Wheels with that red  popping through around the back there's the carbon   fiber spoiler which has a matte finish rather  than glossy then just underneath that there's   the dual motor badge with a red underline there's  a red underline which shows it's the performance   model it's also got a slightly lower and firmer  suspension than what you would see on the long   range model y other things worth mentioning about  the exterior are the all black trim rather than   Chrome we saw this added on the 2021 model 3s  as well so the door trims mirrors and even the   cameras are all black on the model y around the  back there's the diffuser at the bottom which on   the darker colors don't stand out as much on the  red white or blue I think overall from a designer   looks perspective it's not a bad looking car it  looks wide and I think the side profile is the   nicest angle on this car so there are really only  two reasons you would opt for the performance mod   model over the long range one is the design extras  that you're getting like the wheels spoiler and   brakes and the other of course is the power so  the rear wheel drive version has a 0-60 of 6.6   seconds and that is pretty quick the long range  is 4.8 seconds while the performance is rated   at 3.5 seconds now I've not timed this yet but it  feels very quick but it's not just a 0-60 it's the   instant response that no lag if you've ever been  in or driven an electric car you'll know exactly   what I mean now my model 3 is the long range with  the acceleration boost so that takes the 0-60 from   4.2 seconds to 3.7 seconds now it feels very quick  although over the last few years I have definitely   got used to the power of course the 3.5 seconds  in the model y doesn't seem that much quicker   but it is notably faster than what I'm used to  it feels a lot more planted as well especially   with the all-wheel drive and those wider Wheels  then you've got the range which is rated at 319   miles which is slightly less than the model 3  and the model y long range but ultimately this   comes down to how you drive it if I can get 250 to  280 miles from a full charge that's enough for me   to go from York to Bristol which is something I  regularly do and then you've got the suspension   and the ride quality which is very firm on this  compare it to the long range it feels solid but   the wheels and the tires make it a little bit  harsher than I'd expect now previously I have   owned BMWs with suspension just as hard as this  it was not an issue for me but it's definitely   something worth mentioning as for the interior  it's clean minimal and is a nice place to be   I went for the all-black seats rather than white  and they are really firm and supportive plus they   have all of the usual controls for adjusting  it as you'd expect the door cards have a fake   leather and suede like material to them but with a  stitching and wood detail I think they have a nice   clean and yet premium look it's also great to see  that the buttons to open the doors have a little   icon next to them so passengers don't have to  guess which button to press to open it the center   console has this wireless charging pad for two  phones plus there's loads of storage in the middle   if you slide this door open there's a really deep  storage area under here then you can tap to close   it there's also more storage under the armrest  as well along with a 12 volt charger the steering   wheel is a nice size and it's going two buttons at  either side for controlling things like the volume   and another bonus here is actually a heated  steering wheel there is obviously an interior   mirror but you might as well be driving a van as  there's practically no visibility when looking   back you're going to need to use the cameras  instead but one thing I have noticed is just   how clear the rear view camera is on the model y  I know they've upgraded the cameras on their cars   without USS but this visually looks a lot cleaner  than what I'm used to now the center piece of the   Interior is definitely the screen this is the only  display that we get in the model 3 and the model   y I know a lot of you will find this strange and  maybe too minimal but you definitely get used to   it and it's actually less distracting than having  a cluster and loads of Lights in front of you but   in the rear of the car there is loads of space you  can easily fit two to three adults back here and   for me with two children this is perfect I do need  to add their car seats in but this is awesome back   here but talking about the space the boot is what  really made me want to swap for the model y go   into a hatchback means I've got loads more space  back here not only in the boot but underneath it   as well now there is a partial shelf too which  folds up and can be removed if needed it's also   magnetic which is how it stays in place but if you  press either of the buttons on the back or on the   rear of the seats the rear seats will drop down  giving you even more space I can't see me needing   more than this for a long time and the fact that  the boot is motorized as well is awesome you can   either tap the button on the screen use the app on  your phone or press the button on the boot itself   and then there's the front or the Bonnet area  and this is incredibly deep and it's also the   best place to keep the charging cables or other  Messier things out of sight so with the model y   it comes with a type 2 charging cable and this  is ideal for public charging or anywhere that's   untethered then there's a three pin plug which is  ideal for charging at home when you don't have a   charger installed now when it comes to using the  car it is ridiculously easy when you first get it   you'll be provided with two key cards to unlock  it and drive it tap it on the door pillar to open   it then you place it on the center console when  you wish to drive it and then you tap it again   on the door pillar to lock it you'll only need to  do this for the first day or maybe even just for a   few hours and that is until your phone and app  is registered to use the car once that happens   you won't need to use the key card and you can  walk up a driver and walk away without not even   thinking about the keys so the molar y does come  with autopilot as standard which is free this   allows the car to drive brake accelerate and steer  automatically now I didn't opt for the FSD or the   full self-drive option because I don't really  need those extras the summon and navigate on   autopilot just does not interest me and it's not  something I've needed over the last three years   for one really big thing that's worth mentioning  though is the 2023 model y does not come with   USS or the ultrasonic sensors these are those  little parking sensors that you normally see on   the front and the rear bumpers of a car now the  reason they've removed these is Tesla supposedly   upgraded the cameras to allow for better Park  and assist using those instead of the sensors I   mean it kind of sounds logical but at the time  of making this video the camera equivalent for   the parking sensors just does not work at all  there's no sound or visual representation as   you're trying to park the car there should be an  update coming but until then I'll just have to   use my eyes and the cameras instead but at the  moment it definitely feels like a step back on   a brand new car now when it comes to charging it  I will be using a home charger but as I've only   just moved house I don't currently have one  installed that means for the next few weeks or   so I will be using a three pin plug and charging  at just 10 miles an hour it is how I've been   charging my model 3 for the last month and it is  a real pain in my previous house I used to have a   Rolex charger and this thing was awesome but I've  gone for the new Tesla charger instead this time   but in order to manage and schedule my charging  I will be using the EV energy app I will cover   more of my charging and the cost in a separate  video but I'm currently with octopus go if you do   switch to them using my referral link or the code  we will both get 50 pounds credit to our accounts   running costs are another one that I want to go  into more detail in a dedicated video as I know   it's a tough one to work out when you're coming  from a petrol or a diesel car into an electric   car but generally speaking it is pretty cheap as  there's no vehicle tax little to no servicing and   electricity is still cheaper than buying fuel at  the pump so my charging costs between 10 pence   and 32 Pence per kilowatt hour that depends on  whether I charge it during the day or at night   and my insurance is just 550 pounds but that is  actually up from the 300 pounds was paying on the   model 3. it then comes with four years or 50 000  miles warranty on the car plus eight years or 120   000 miles on the battery and the Drive Unit so  that's plenty of time with any issues I might face   over the coming years now I do have a few subtle  mods for the car which I do plan on showing in a   dedicated video nothing crazy though so I want  to remove the number plates and go for vinyl   ones instead I have done this before and I think  it looks a lot cleaner I also want to change all   the badges from Silver to Black it won't be to  everyone's taste but it's something I want to do   and then I've got a few other bits I want to add  as well I've even thought about wrapping the car   to a completely different color but I think I'm  now going to wait until next year as I really   liking the color already so this channel will  be dedicated to Tesla and EVS that'll include me   covering my journey and experience with this car  things like running costs accessories road trips   Pros cons and even comparing it to the model 3.  but any ideas or suggestions mention those below   and I will try to cover them as well now drop  a UK model y in the comments and I'll give you   a thumbs up for staying right till the end and  if you did enjoy today's video please like and   subscribe to the channel as it really helps  me out thank you for watching until next time
