2015 Week 12 - Patriots @ Broncos

[Music] in Denver tonight getting ready for the marquee matchup of week 12 in the NFL as the undefeated New England Patriots square off with the Broncos a Sunday night [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the frigid night sports authority field Denberg temperature in the mid 20s this place is always bonkers no question it will be tonight into town comes Tom Brady having another MVP type season when Patriots ready to take smaller and those Sunday night's football now Michael Smith styles with Michele Tafoya welcome to Denver at least temporarily a changing of the guard Peyton Manning nursing a foot injury hopes to be back in a couple of weeks Dean Wallace Osweiler's team he'll be at the helm again last week played well in Chicago two touchdown passes dirt and turned the ball over but what a test tonight going up against Bill Belichick and a defense that has yielded the fewest points in the league meanwhile the Patriots come in undefeated they're ten and oh they're not talking about a perfect season everybody else is though because if they win tonight they've got a real good shot to run the table nothing seems to stop this team from their appointed rounds can they deliver again tonight and Chris if they do they'll have to do it with some missing parts on offense but Bill Belichick is always pulling something out of the Hat what will that be tonight Tom Brady and the number one scoring defense Allen had he's won a lot of games with a heck of a lot less than that but I think the key is going to be the play of their offensive line they weren't very good a week ago and any time you play against the defense like that you have to protect Tom Brady they reshuffled up front we'll see if it's any better now you watch sauce wanna play against Chicago last week we saw them in practice we talked to them the other day is she ready for primetime I think he's ready for primetime is he ready for the undefeated world champ that may be a different question but he is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week so not a bad start for him but the show tonight is going to be this Denver defense that we saw shut down Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers just a couple weeks ago going against Tom Brady who's having one of the best seasons of his entire career any time you did the best against the best it's going to be fantastic yeah once again we had one of those you don't want to miss it matchups it's the Broncos and the Patriots forecast call for some snow one to three inches and here it is it's coming over the last hour or so temperature 26 degrees well one guy who hopes to spend a lot of time in the New England backfield tonight is linebacker Von Miller of the Denver Broncos who spoke with Michelle moments ago Levon your defense leads the NFL with 34 sacks you have six of them but Tom Brady gets rid of the ball quicker than any quarterback in the league how do you make things uncomfortable for him tonight we got the best second in the league hopefully they can you know delay I'm up a little bit I know that we all know to be ever do it and we'll be able to get better nothing your quarterback Brock Osweiler makes his second career start what has impressed you most about him since he stepped in for Peyton just his poise you know nothing is too big for him you know he comes in every day with the same Chris has the mentality and it's uh it's great for all of us good luck thank you yes ma'am thank you Miller will be without his running mate DeMarcus weird and ideas out with a back injury Evan Mathis has an ankle injury he will play but max Garcia will get the start as for Peyton Manning he is in the house he'll be watching the game he told me that at halftime he'll be in the locker room helping out with adjustments as for New England Danny Amendola Michael Williams and linebacker Jamie Collins are all out tonight al I thank you Michelle also of course missing Julian Edelman with a broken foot division leaders Patriots undefeated big lead in the East since he won today they're 9 and 2 Denver will go to 9 and 2 or 8 and 3 will lead the West regardless an Indianapolis wins today they're six and five in the very AFC South snow coming down here Denver but the field is in good shape it wasn't snowing during the warm-up so it's coming down that pretty good as you can see the wind is only at four miles an hour Stephen Gostkowski will tickle New England won the toss as usual they deferred over sports authority field which opened in 2001 supplanting the old Stadium go from the Rockies at the goal line this is Omar Bolden - take him down over the night [Applause] Wilson making the tackle Brock Osweiler he's in his fourth year here they drafted him in 2012 out of Arizona State before that as you can see his father is here with the orange cap he and his mother drove last week they couldn't get a flight from Denver to Chicago because of the weather condition so they drove all night got there and watched their boy win the game at Soldier Field when they start on the ground and right there to plankton his Ning kovitch Ronnie booming before he can even get started gets taken down behind the line of scrimmage right to the inside against Schofield who is a guy that will have to keep an eye on tonight that sort of elite quickness inside both of these offensive lines something we're going to have to watch this evening because these defenses are tremendous bit of an early statement from that Patriot Dean and that'll be caught up at the 22-yard line Emmanuel Sanders back after missing last week's being with an ankle injury made the cash Osweiler made his first career start on his 25th birthday and won the game and as we say he played very well it's easy to say well he managed the game and Kubiak gave a great game plan didn't try to do anything crazy didn't turn it over as Chris mentioned AFC Offensive Player of the Week said the rest my birthday's piped downhill after that one half the beat for receivers now set to the left side there's your Omaha Cole third and six it is incomplete Andre Poirot is adjusting on the play and Harmon is there for the coverage that is a quick three and out it looked like Patrick Chung back there running with him stride for stride and I think Patrick Chung has been one of the really great untold stories of this Patriots defense his coverage ability may be a little surprising for some in New England has made a huge difference this year at Britton Colquitt to do the punting it was fun to be the Broncos punter getting to 5,280 feet Chris Harper his to receive and it's a very short kick that doesn't even get into New England territory so a bad start before the Broncos here come the Patriots on the plus side linebacker this time Brandon Marshall Marshall a very good inside backer good coverage but no match there we'll see how many more times they're willing to go one-on-one this is a bit of a man coverage team we saw it against Green Bay they're gonna allow their corners Chris Harris to keep two three Bradley Roby all to play one-on-one on the outside it's gonna be up to those tight ends to make plays inside that was a gain of 10 grading the good clean pump it flips it to the outside the filaments the catching spins back forward progress will net him a first down before his tackle the 24 yard line by Chris Harris they understand that they're not going to have a lot of opportunities to win just one-on-one with their wide receivers outside so what you'll see tonight a lot of different little bunch and stack formations like that they don't want these corners doing what they do best which is coming down on the line of scrimmage playing bump and run and taking advantage of the receiver half minutes into the game usually resounding spike by Gronkowski that's 23 yards for the touchdown and for Rob Gronkowski it's his ninth touchdown catch of the season well you're gonna go one on one with Gronkowski and you're gonna pay a price for it here Darian Stewart on the outside just right there really didn't even make an effort then he shakes off TJ Ward you know when you don't have some of the other weapons in there with Edelman out named and dole out I thought that Gronkowski was going to see all kinds of coverage not so far the last week Buffalo did a great job on him Izzy Connolly offensive side of the ball a lot of injuries of ton and very significant ones defensively they didn't except for the loss of Commons on third and eleven Osweiler trying to find some wheel and he's going to be chased down and stopped by Rob ninka so that Denver Broncos have now run a total of six plays for three yards well you'll see this from Brock Osweiler's perspective everybody's sprinting down the field nothing there and I think for us Wyler he is going to have to get his nerve settled here early I know that it's always tempting to take off and run with the football but he's really going to have to start seeing this field here pretty quickly because this is a fantastic defense from New England it's making him look bad so far now coke with his last punt was 25 yards something you'll never see in this ballpark [Applause] fielded at the 40-yard line this is Chris Parker and he'll get run out of bounds in front of the New England bench at the 50-yard line pass with the ball and a seven nothing lead in Denver in Denver New England on its first drive Brady for for for for 47 yards and a Gronkowski touchdown pass start this drive from the 49 and that passes behind in the drop that is standard tie then came over from Buffalo in the offseason to work the other side of the line with this foul ski really hasn't caught many balls this year but Tom feels that he can really work them more into the lineup now especially in the absence of a guy like Hammond goin with Edelman gone of course and I'm sure Wade Phillips is going to try to begin to take away those easy throws from Tom Brady because this pass rush is arguably the best in football right now so you have to try and take away the quick stop and worst time to hold that ball we saw those numbers and those are stellar that pass is incomplete intended for Chandler again let's take a look at that Bronco dude they're cool Cincinnati supposed to wheel well Carolina Malik Jackson Tennessee Paul Miller Texas Brandon Marshall Danny Trevathan Kentucky shag Barrett Colorado State I can't leave in South Carolina Chris Harris jr. Casas Jeff white in the backfield now on third and ten white scored two touchdowns in the Monday nighter [Music] a couple there by Brandon Bolden so that Bronco defense does its job here after yielding the touchdown on their first drive for thony what a great play by Bradley Roby he saw that thing early and did not hesitate he shot right through the receiver to make a huge play and that's more like it from the Denver defense standpoint that first drive didn't look like anything they've done all year Omar Bolden is back to receive Allen since this one up in the air down the sideline and go to see those spotted but Osweiler will start deep in his own territory [Applause] and they mark the ball the 11 yard line [Music] well gary kubiak comes to town it's a different kind of offense with Peyton Manning he was only under center 15% of the time in the pistol or short shotgun 35% half the time in the shotgun now with Osweiler he's been understanding three-quarters of the time so people were talking about Kubiak comes in could Peyton adjust to his offense they kind of built a little bit of a hybrid they were rolling especially in that Green Bay game but now with Osweiler they're running more of what Gary has run through the years in Houston and Baltimore but it's all predicated upon being able to run the football and so far they haven't done that at all yet but CJ Anderson says let me try to take care of that and he gets nine to the 21-yard line it'll be second down and one now that's what the stretch plays supposed to look like they get everybody running horizontally so here's everybody the defense runs and now the back can go back and with some cutback lanes here that's what this offense is supposed to look like you get that going then you get the bootlegs you get the play-action that's Gary Kubiak softens now they have three tight ends in last week they use two tight ends on two thirds of the plays angle his way CJ Anderson for a first down and appears to just have gotten it we talked about some of the reshuffled offensive line for the Patriots well the same thing has really been true for the Denver Broncos as well they have had to make some major changes Ryan Harris the left tackle is their third left tackle max Garcia playing tonight for Evan Mathis who has the ankle issue [Applause] you'll Sanders he gets whacked by the Cordy and [Music] and as a gain of 22 yards a deep over route here by Sanders but that was a rocket from Brock Osweiler I mean he reared back and threw that ball hard it barely got a few yards off the ground and Devin McCourty is probably one of the fastest guys playing the free safety position sideline to sideline and not even he could get there on that one Oswalt is 6 feet 8 [Applause] that'll be a six-yard gain to the 49-yard line Cody Latimer second-year guys drafted in the second round last year from Indiana scored a touchdown last week gained to seven second and three isn't it amazing you get this thing going now you come out this way with it and this is full effect now you've seen this before with the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco's exactly what they did and now Osweiler with that basketball background of his very comfortable throwing on the move second and three under six to play in the quarter it seemed and picking up the first vanish CJ Anderson behind a Michael Scofield block now these interior guys starting to get some movement down here and once again the cutback Lane is there nice job on the backside by Ryan Harris cutting it off there to allow that cutback to happen now Ronnie Hillman comes in as the running back from the 41 yard again that is Palin branch making the tackle at the line of scrimmage it'll be second down to ten and one of the weapons now that the Denver Broncos have at their disposal is Vernon Davis this is the first time yeah it's one thing to go run Gary Kubiak offense but that was so dependent on having two tight ends they could get vertical down the field in a hurry now number 80 Vernon Davis is the guy that gives them that additional threat along with Owen Daniels for Demaryius Thomas for a sign that their leading receiver has been targeted tonight third down to nine Gary Kubiak is a guy that it was interesting to see how this team built this wasn't it it was some hybrid system that kind of made Payton happy and a little bit of that and the pistol and the whole bit but there was some good that came out of it because there were some new formations that were introduced to this office because of Peyton Manning that now they've incorporated into the offense that they feel pretty good against the Patriots with Miss Pony they were seven and AH at one point people thought they looked like they were all in seventh but they got together third [Applause] the first man is Benny Fowler but he's gonna come up a little bit short at the 32 yard line tackled there by Shawn Melvin so now now let's see Kubiak with his first big decision we're gonna measure that one that one's close but I don't think I don't think he has it [Applause] and we get Paul McGuire at a retired to be able to give him a pretty good spot so yeah I thought it was a chance short to but this I'll take I like this Benny Fowler kid it look like he was not even gonna get close to that line and he just kept driving yeah this is one of those things if he has the first down you wonder if balanced trick is gonna challenge this let's take a peek here a couple of links push the crowd as is always the case in every ballpark wants them to go for it on fourth and inches yeah but then they boo if you don't get it of course this is a stud front here for the New England Patriots they have some big guys up front Allen Branch silver cylinder Chandler Jones we've already seen what an Inca can do this is going to be a challenge for this offensive line he said nothing else they've been lined up to go for CJ Anderson Plus while there's arms your so long just raise up and do the old Tom Brady right arms out all right here we go forth in a truce the backfield and pick up the first out by plenty get the legs moving picks up two first down Denver you always wonder when you send everybody out of the backfield who are you fooling at that point that one play you're looking for then is the quarterback snakebit this is a big guy you know I mean he's he's big and strong and powerful and been under center a lot maybe you don't run that play with Peyton Manning's over [Applause] another good hole here so CJ Anderson has really given them a boost here early on first second down at the 23-yard line second down and four what a shot CJ Anderson put on Logan Ryan at the end of this watch him drop this shoulder and just go wham there is the leading tackler right there for the New England Patriots believe it or not they're cornerback Logan Ryan and big time for mandersohn [Applause] rusting out of bounds after a gain of a couple its Anderson for a gain of about two it'll be third down and let's call it three third and three now for Denver yeah if you're gonna stop some of these stretch runs you have to play this like Robin ink of its just did and just hammer down off the edge set it and build a wall right there that's what they're looking for now this does bounce out and around but by that point his help was able to get there but they're really looking for these outside guys Hightower and Ning kovitch jabal sheared to hammer that edge and allow everybody to catch up from the inside [Applause] one on the left side but there's a little bit of confusion turnout as they line up so Denver takes a timeout just before a third and two and we come back number four that tonight shows Wednesday night you see it all week with some reason now that he's back he has become this unbelievable pass rusher and having a great impact on this defense that was big to get after timer I picked wolf was at a Cincinnati in 2012 Patriots have not had a running play here's a penalty for the moment Gronkowski will have a first down but for the first time tonight we will hear the voice of Tony correct [Music] [Applause] well he did not report but you saw the other official come in and say maybe he didn't report we've seen this happen before all it takes is somebody to see him sort of rubbing his chest that's the signal it means I'm an eligible receiver and if some official raises his hand and goes okay I got it [Music] report as an eligible receiver the ruling on the field is completed pass first down we have it and you can take a look at it here all right here he comes in right there let's see if he's rubbing his chest that's it absolutely it was no question so the play counts it is a pickup of 21 yards to the 33-yard line the Patriots have run nine plays all of them passes now Tony currently announces that plumbing is eligible I think plumbing and so they didn't thank God I didn't have to go back to build balances so is Mason at fullback [Applause] first time we see the LeGarrette Blount their leading rusher carry the ball tonight their first rushing play gain of two second and eight the Patriots this season almost two-thirds pass to run it's the lowest running rate in team history so Tom Brady of course has had that arm limbered all season long meanwhile Sylvester Williams in Ward is down as well there's the nose tackle sylvester williams wants to come off TJ Ward was also shaken on the play Vance Walker comes in along the defensive front and David Bruton comes in in the secondary so you got two starters out for the moment for the Broncos Trey Jackson Sylvester Williams back getting TJ Ward as well as a two-for-one shot so Brady goes five wide on second down and [Applause] [Music] that is Brandon Bolden taking it out to the 50 yard line and that will probably take us to the end of the courtroom as Brady wants to hurry it up here and indeed we will move on to the second stanza end of we just saw it there again that they are not going to let Gronkowski get the one-on-one at first drive I'm not sure why that happened on that first drive can I be surprised if that happens but for this game they were pretty stunning 39 and Grady fire in by Keshawn Martin but he looks at the snakes and he as close to a first down let's see if they give it to him nope he's gonna be about a yard short so Martin who started the season with the Houston Texas and with tonight would be he's Brady's number two wide receiver comes up a little bit short fourth down and Allen is in to punt but he is their number one slot guys really takes the job of a man inside he's gonna have to bake big flag is thrown that to the engine [Applause] so before Aswan Allah takes over we'll find out here where they because his parents love to see him play go to every game there they are and there was a nonstop flight in those years between Kalispell Montana and Phoenix to make it easier for them you don't make any connections he is an entertaining guy Gary Kubiak asked him to give a speech to the team he said I've been on the team for four years the long snapper had given a speech I still hadn't he was honored to do it he said I really appreciate that five minutes that he gave me didn't think about it beforehand that everybody said he was a cool customer entertained him and gave her great confidence going into that Chicago game if you're around and it's not too big for him now for sure 30,000 for from the 16 yard line that gets batted up in the air and picked off at the 20-yard line so the six foot 8 inch quarterback has it batted at the line of scrimmage and the Windland takes over at the 20 yard line Chandler Jones got his hand on it Chabal sheared right here on the outside of this thing is going to get the pressure right up and around and get his hand on the arm of Osweiler then that thing shoots straight up in the air and one of the best athletes around Chandler Jones is going to go rebound a little bits that take that guns AGGA and that was what you didn't want to have happen so they drive the length of the field he takes the sack they have to punt it away the Patriots drive down there's no field it whatsoever out of that now the Patriots are in busy cheered with the assist [Applause] first down at the 15 yard line [Applause] blank Grady going across the line and that did you saw them both leave the field on a cart both are questionable with ankle injuries they are in the x-ray room Sylvester Williams has had his done Ward just went in so we'll get the results as soon gonna get second down and four you know a lot of new looks on this offensive line they were not good a week ago so now they bring Sebastian Ballmer who usually plays right tackle to left tackle they put Marcus cannon who had struggled with that right big toe of his from right tackle the left tackle Center would be as much pressure on that toe we watched the tape he barely would put that right delivered now and back-to-back games he's been the understudy for three and a half years and not playing Broadway you know what Gregg Knapp told me he said I'll bet John Elway saw a little of himself in this guy obviously not the arm strength Adele we had with the mobility playing in a run first offense I could see why you would think that he might be a fit down the road bumped up running up and down the sideline banister sends it through the end zone so Brady has 69 seconds one time out and one of the best field goal kickers ever and Stephen Gustav ski we're gonna be talking about a holding call in the back of the end zone they completely changed that drive that was not one of those bold into the game obvious holding calls was there a little there was a little but the Patriots have had a couple of those that Gronkowski pass interference have been that one turned to third and goal from the 19 into a first and goal from inside the five so now no Gronkowski the senior so Chandler now the situation I think if you end up with another injured player then something else kicks in a five-yard penalty something like dancers the rulebook is like the IRS code right now who knows they're so New England still has its timeout starts to run and Brady throws and that's incomplete with a flag tended for Harper covered there by gluten and balance if you say wait a minute what least defense number 25 five yard penalty first now I think we have another clock issue here what else is new at the end of a game because there was an injured player there's the plague under the game clock was starting when Chris goes before the activist snap and I think what Belichick is saying as you gave them that Bonus Time and then you wound the clock we were waiting we thought it was a dead ball because of the timeout and all that exactly right ten seconds left in regulation they still have a timeout when you got to get in field goal range they're not there yet and it's sliding bounces LaFell so that with four seconds we'll set up an opportunity to tie the game Wow maybe it just doesn't matter maybe it's just these two teams and they get together holy cow it again this is going to be a 47-yard attempt on a bright sunny day at altitude this is almost the chip shot with the stache be anything but tonight long a 57 yards well within his range right but on the snow in a slippery surface to send us into overtime [Applause] does man oh man this weaker so despite the clock running off several seconds they were able to make that the pass Brady Tula felt huge you know and the great thing about that let's give them credit is they feel they caught bad breaks on some penalties caught bad breaks on that clock management and instead of hanging your head and be defeated Brady hits the big pass and they go to overtime they've been doing it for how many years now it doesn't matter what happened you know and I know everybody has their own version of what the Patriots are I don't care what you say what they have done over the past decade plus has been incredible catchers will play one 15-minute overtime period we'll play as if it is the fourth quarter with timing rules all replay reviews will come from upstairs and each team will be allowed to timeouts as visitors you had the opportunity to call its number 18 calls heads it is heads if they want the football so it comes down to this if New England gets a touchdown the game is over anything less nice fire and the blockage we get the football and at least [Music] on Sunday night reviewing overtime again a touchdown wins the game for New England anything else Denver will get the ball teams are tied after one possession each next score wins the game game cannon she's just to clean up one thing we heard from the league in terms of the they ran the clock the right way as it turned out I think what happened was at the end of regulation Brady thought when he heard excess time out there was no sense of urgency when he went to the line so this when the clock started to go Belichick was apoplectic along the sidelines but they actually got that right well they get it right but from a player's standpoint Tom Brady you hear time no for a few penalties to go his way he's saying we've seen enough go against us in here and we'd like to have one in our favor but there really isn't and now we're back to that whole discussion the elite quickness that would be so big in a situation like that how many times we see Brady just those little in-and-out watch you know to Edelman [Applause] and now that he doesn't really have those guys on the field that have that kind of quickness second down and ten [Applause] he's gonna get sacked at the 13 Miller took until overtime to get their seven yard sack third and 17 near Brady's going to try and step up but just as he does that door closes and now he has to back up into Von Miller who has begun to take over this game third and 17 from the 13 yard line have to get to the 30 gravy must've dumped it off seen ray got their rookie at a Missouri their first-round pick and his fourth down so Denver's going to get the ball and a field goal could win the game I mean what an unbelievable play by Brady to get that thing out he was turned to his left and had to spin all the way around and somehow found a receiver close enough for that not to be called intentional grounding would have would have been a sack and made a third and goal from the 19 yard line this is not for down territory right Chris I mean I'm he can't he can't take a chance to do doing the ball at midfield this is a key play on third down here CJ Anderson is the running back go back to the snake that they went to early in the game [Applause] the same exact play they scored the earlier touchdown so only you know coach the nap or quarterbacks coaching myself we talked last night we said no matter what happens it's going to be a 60-minute game you know it was true tonight we just kept fighting it was more than 60 quick before I turned to CJ Anderson a word from you what did you think of the way he played tonight CJ played he's played incredible and you know what CJ saw the holes Ron he saw the holes but a huge credit has to go to the offensive line because without those guys we're not doing any of this tonight and they were banged up thanks so much thank you congratulations let's turn to CJ and uh just really really to be honest I don't know what happened up and I just took off for inning three but now we all kind of know I was cutting up all down was kind of being powerful and being physical and we thought I can get to the edge one time and that happened it happen a lot for you today you were able to move laterally and make cuts in these conditions that were difficult for all of us to explain how do you explain it that's just something we work on you know just having our weight over our foot and make sure that we are we get our cleats in the ground and I got the right shoes on you gotta Givet are putting the guys then you gotta give it to the big boys up front and they just play call I mean everything's just focus well today and we got a long way to go but this is going
