the world series can get tough and if you're down three games to one like the Braves were on Thursday sometimes it seems like nothing goes right yes the World Series can get tough but you know what they say about when the going gets tough to win the World Series you got to win for in no particular order and how tough do you get when it's your last chance well their team was down three games to one in a foreign Stadium but the Braves held on to utter three of the kindest words in the English language honey I'm home the South has risen again folks I'll tell you if you want to talk about chopping a deficit before it's too late these fans are all ears so come on in and make yourself at home for Game six we'll do our best to give you the best seat in the house I can everybody I'm paddle Brian welcome to our CBS sports continuing coverage of the 1992 World Series tonight Blue Jays will send out David Cone Atlanta will counter with Steve Avery Braves fans are well aware that the last five teams who have come home down a game have each rally to win the World Series Blue Jays fans know that as well 40,000 of them have gathered tonight up at Sky Dome right now it's time for so the singing of the two national anthems and here is public address announcer Marshall man to our Canada join in singing the anthem which will be before tonight by Saudi brothers recording artist front row the nylons Oh to honor America joining the singing of our national anthem which will be performed by Columbia recording artist mr. Harry jr. see by the dawn's early what surprised at the twilight's whose trust rights and bright stars through the perilous fight over ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly the bombs burst a gay you oh say does that is a beautiful night for Game six of the 1992 World Series the Toronto Blue Jays and the Atlanta Braves here on CBS welcome back to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium where the stage is set for Game six of this Fall Classic and for what could be the last picture show of this 1992 World Series we turn it over to Sean McDonough and Tim McCarver mr. Saturday night and mr. baseball fellas huh Thank You Pat and good evening everyone welcome to Game six of the World Series with Toronto leading three games to two the scenario is just about the same as it was for Game five the Blue Jays still one went away from their first World Championship and Atlanta still in a do-or-die situation but certainly with Atlanta's win in Game five there's a lot more pressure on the Toronto Blue Jays as the series returns to Atlanta and it was here on their home field that the Braves took Game one Damon berryhill's three-run homer off Jack Morris in the sixth inning gave Atlanta all of its runs in a three to one victory and in Game two Ed Sprague's sprang off the bench to hit a two-run pinch home run off of Jeff Reardon as Toronto wins five to four in Game three of Toronto candy Maldonado bases-loaded single with one out of the night off Jeff Reardon knocked in the winning run Roberto Alomar chopped his way home from third as Toronto prevailed 3-2 to to take a two games to one lead and speaking of chopping Devon white with a chopper through the left side to score Kelly Gruber in the seventh inning of Game four the decisive run as to what Toronto went up three games to one a two-to-one victory in game five with the Braves fighting to stay alive Lonnie Smith's grand slam off Morris in the fifth have the Braves and their fans jumping for joy as Atlanta 172 to send this series back to Atlanta so tonight Toronto has its second chance to wrap up the series and they turn to David Cone when they acquired him from the Mets in late August it was with this game really in mind they thought he was the man who could put them over the hump in their quest for their first World Champion and how did the Atlanta Braves beat him a car patient at the plate and aggressive on the bases control problems for David Cone and look for the Braves to run and run a lot he'll be opposed tonight by Steve Avery and here is our Jim kaat thanks Sean his studio very in the challenge we face the same lineup booyah and fast blue jays are good fastball hitters as Tim said David Cone tried to strike hitters out with the first pitch in his last night he can't do that he has to get him in more ball T strike counts then he can put him away with a splitter or slider and natural he dominates the game play ball sharp thank you Jim Steve Avery getting ready to go to work against the Toronto lineup that has davon white leading off in centerfield Roberto Alomar at second base batting 32 first base again tonight Joe Carter the cleanup hitter right fielder Dave Winfield sandy Maldonado gets the start in left field Kelly Gruber back six the third base the catcher is Pat borders batting seventh the shortstop Manuel Lee hits eight than batting ninth the pitcher David Cone the defense for the Atlanta Braves he did not start a League Championship Series game this is his fourth start in the World Series Deion Sanders in left field Otis Nixon will be the centerfielder and David Justice the right fielder Gary Pendleton on the end Jeff Blauser at shortstop mark Lemke will be the second baseman Sid Bream the first baseman and once again damon berryhill behind the plate it is another delightful night in the capital of Georgia 67 degrees the gametime temperature a light breeze out of the West and the forecast is for clear skies throughout the night and the umpires working this one john shulock with the American League behind the plate Jerry Crawford at first base Mike Riley at second Joe West at third Dan Morrison along the left vine and Bob Davidson have been accidentally again right another sellout crowd on hand as you might expect as Pat O'Brien told you 5,000 toward the airport morning after about four o'clock in the morning and they're on the feet as this one is about to begin Game six of the 19 war for 21 and here's the first pitch of the - Steve Avery light mass four hits in the World Series but three of them came indeed for flying the left and a the Devon white takes the second pitch of the night in the left and he's aboard with nobody out in the top of the first this game more than any other game matches two pitchers who have a very difficult time holding runners on the home run ball has been prominent in the World Series up to now but look for the running game in this game Steve Avery 42 stolen bases against him this year the most of any national league pitcher and David Cone with 49 against him Vaughn white is not stolen a base in the postseason and Roberto Alomar that's the ball one and all on Elmo's just drew 418 to the series and over his last six refers white stole 37 bases during the regular season was only thrown out in the playoffs against Oakland not attempted a stolen base in the World Series large part because he hasn't been on his off with this very those throw that's true of the postseason in the Bluejays forth without being caught in the World Series that high leg kick by Steve Avery watch allows Devon white a huge jump in first base and berryhill's throw too late no catcher will throw him out with that kind of jump two balls it is those were alibis numbers during the regular season he was born in the major leagues and third in the American League with runners in scoring position good job of hitting the right-side move that'll bring up Joe Carter he's four for seven with two solo homers one of those at the expense of Steve Avery in Game three SkyDome the other was in Game one on Tom Glavine the infield is in for Atlanta with white at third and one out all the dirt 47 the series 4:17 and a fine play by Damon Berryhill during this breaking ball looked like it hit the plate all right next to the plate and Berryhill with a nice block to save a run temporarily and another nice play to keep white two balls in those strengths it seems that managers in postseason play are more aware of playing the infield in early in the ballgame you don't often see a guy like cito Gaston and Bobby Cox play the infield in in the first inning but we've seen it time and time and time again postseason play instead of the outset this is still a do or die situation for whether they is over go to open Carter has Laur runs batted in than any player in baseball over the last seven years only has two runs batted in in this is large white and Alomar haven't been on patient we'll be followed by Dave Winfield now the three one line toward the gap in right-center justice on the run it's office lovin behind him white on to score Carver in to second in the Blue Jays lead one to nothing you lost that ball in the lights it appeared that he was drawing a bead on it and then see I think he lost sent ball in the lights up lead the ball hit the end of his glove and it's going to be scored a double for Joe Carter that that ball should have at least it could have been caught I think he lost the ball in the light and they have changed the scoring to an error it should have been caught so the air on the board for the Braves the run on the board for the Blue Jays justice had his problem from time to time during the regular season with a derrick most of those errors however in fairness to David came on growing Aaron's very strong headed for a sacrifice fly in ibi and he reaches on the air is at second with one out Dave Winfield at the plate though has ever had an extra-base hit in the World Series for pitchers set up the double play possibility Carter at second Winfield at first one out one run into the top of the first pitching coach Leo Mazzoni on his way to the mound and already there is action in the Atlanta bullpen Avery falls behind Joe Carter 3 & 1 and then behind Dave Winfield three and oh the early innings are not the times to pitch around hitters and the reason is missing Kate Smith of the joint the reason for that is if you pitch around hitters and early innings and then you get the long ball well the big inning could get you out of the game that's why I'm going down second works we'll work next to candy maldonado all the not only one 4:13 of the World Series but his one hit was the game-winning hit in the ninth inning to be three Maldonado tonight instead of john olerude at first base because olerude did not have a very easy time when he pays day three Jim kaat mentioning the curveball of steve avery that's one of the reasons all the roads out of there tonight that was a tough pitch to Maldonado but he clearly went through softly hit towards short the second out the enemy Carter takes third on the blow first and third with two down is Maldonado reaches on a fielder's choice fastball inside Maldonado jam and Jeff Blauser and Lemke making sure of one now the sixth batter of the first inning Kelly Gruber with Toronto leading one to nothing he's won near the booze the groover that heads back to game 2 football strike one go for 8 with runners in scoring position in the postseason and overall Kelly is 3 for 37 playoffs and World Series to buy two wins for the championship for the Braves one win for the Toronto Blue Jays they lead one to nothing as they bat on the top of the first the short lousy responders that he feathers in planning the forest Blue Jays after half a day center fielder Otis Nixon leads off of the Atlanta Braves tonight batting second in left field Deion Sanders Terry Pendleton the third baseman hits third the cleanup hitter right fielder David Justice batting fifth and first base Sid Bream the shortstop Jeff Blauser hits sixth catching and batting seventh damon berryhill the second baseman mark Lemke bats eighth and hitting ninth the pitcher Steve Avery the defense for Toronto finds cat candy Maldonado in left field Devon White who has made one remarkable play in this series in center Dave Winfield started 26 games in right field and keep in mind that the Braves will try to run on Winfield on Kelly Gruber at third base Manuel Lee the shortstop Roberto Alomar at second base and Joe Carter at first base he has started only six games in the regular season there but he did start one game at first base for Toronto that was Game one at borders behind the play twenty nine year old David Cole on the mound required on August 27th from the New York Mets which changed for Jeff Kent and Ryan Thompson home making his second appearance in this world series to come from behind win for the Blue Jays on its brakes home run control trouble plagued to walk Nixon leads off Otis its 421 in the World Series and ladies five for his last night he was too four and three four five in Game five the grass at third respect to bill first pitch of the night from David Cone fastball high for ball one and a strike one ball and one strike on Nixon David cones only lost to the Braves in this ballpark back on April 30th 1994 in one in this top too short No one in one Championship Series it is very very important for David Cone to throw strikes he walked more this year that he ever has a hundred regular season Deion Sanders getting it even 500 in the world and it takes just right in the World Series and be success against David Poland in the past with one well lifetime against in the bottom of the first the Blue Jays lead one to nothing David calm is a very predictable picture and that if these growing strikes early usually sales what's important Terry Pendleton he's 5 for 21 in the world the last game Game five one ball and one strike Pendleton can keep the inning alive David Justice with that next one ball and two strikes this is the 46th World Series game postseason game time work so the Braves have their first to the bottom of the berth we've mentioned several times that Gama catches a get out Terry Pendleton the shoe tops now David Justin all series five on Jack Morris is only Steve Avery allowed the bond occurs in the shallow right center the shortstop shifted over to the right side the infield made the play to end the inning after one in Game six the Blue Jays lead three home run hit in the series coke and Major League Baseball would give five thousand dollars to build and renovate youth baseball fields through the coca-cola homers for America program first pitch at the 7a stripe the Pat borders from Steve Avery the Blue Jays batting with a one nothing lead they have the bottom third of their order coming up borders then Lee and cone line under the ground with Jeff Blauser but in his grasp and Pat borders ten use decision he's the leading hitter of the World Series now 8 for 17 he's hit in 14 consecutive postseason games the record held by Hank Bauer who hit in 17 consecutive postseason games Rickey Henderson with 15 and 89 and 90 Brooks Robinson and Pat borders with 14 Wow which distinct OSHA company at borders with a second time it is many innings the Blue Jays have believed man-on-man loudly months follow along first they just won for 15 of the World Series at over his last night his only hit a fifth inning single in Game two of John Smoltz sign a bunt that time is Toula will indeed send along a check for $20,000 as resumed the Grand Slam hit by Lonnie Smith in game 5 there's another grand goes down the button for a picture coming out the bus and Willie it's almost like a free attack if you don't move the runner has a chance to Bunny moment he's hot that's what 1 for 16 will do to David Cone 2 for 2 at the plate in Game two the regular season with the messy yet only six hits and sixty-five at-bats very good rep for that one's out of play oan thinks of himself as a hitter perhaps even first when he appeared at the press conference yesterday with batting gloves on each hand he likes to hit he had two hits in game number two he was 2 for 2 in that game cito Gaston saying that he could let him hit away Sanders almost on the left-field line in Latvia the bull Jays one and the Braves nothing doctor one of the trademark calls the late great red fiber trailing eight to five in that game Joe DiMaggio appeared to be time today game was a Sid Bream begins the Atlanta second degrees let's do the bone depending to say 3 for 12 in the series all three of his hit singles medical quick start of the postseason first couple of games of the playoffs against the Pirates but he will never drunk driven in a run in the World Series this being his 12th game the all-time record series starts from the start of a career without an RBI or shirt by a couple of Hall of Famers 13 World Series the AP all in two strikes on bream they become where they this year his best since nineteen and three he had conspired with a right write an article every day and some disparaging views of the doctor they didn't take too kindly to it I'll tell you was principally upset has admitted that it was a mistake to come out with that article we wonder why players allow themselves to get a little Oh soon they don't need the money to do just columns in this series we've seen an example of a David the atmosphere of the spring training game and Bobby Cox said that's a lot of baloney we mentioned 111 walks for David Cone and prior to this walk 3.1 batters per nine it was up almost season plays average five and a half we've been on for land a second Blue Jays lead one allows her to the ball three of its symbols and up against the retaining wall drop down onto the playing field a foul ball his last 12 at-bats with runners on base he is awfully quick inside he has the home run that he hit against Pittsburgh right there play the inside but it was Oh stops at 7:00 the end of the World Series those quick hands I mean he turned fit as the one mini fouled off well struck by Blauser two hits tonight for Atlanta Oh - Philippe he's approaching the world strikeouts in a single suits interest order up as Grouper in at third and at first base you have Lemke and Avery coming up on Avery's a pretty good hitter I don't think Bobby running in this situation to the running to make the catch green tags and heads to third lousy remains of first part of the Balch line that's cool straightaway center first and third in the second Damon berryhill's first major-label is off of David Cone and he sends to mine make this cat aside prevention broadcast and he had had that ghastly boo - there what he can't so far mark lemke shuri's the tying run at third base with one up 1-nothing foul ball runners in scoring position is Mike Lemke my ball in left-center he started down the line and wisely but better of it as wife throw was right on the money to the cutoff man Carter in the 20 on that ball was hit just a bit deeper I think bream tries it divine setting up in perfect position to throw he makes a good throw coming up next runner at third would have taken a chance at now the pitcher Avery and the Blue Jays lead one a nothing and borders the but what the Blue Jays will do should Blauser take off for second base late swing and one strike on Avery 171 during the regular season we've got for the SkyDome hood away boy one he wasn't easily it can be difficult to throw just trying to steer it over right down the middle gone with 12 wild pictures season 17 as it takes off a brie strikes out that ends the CBS Sports coverage of Game six of the 1992 World Series is brought to you by Bram Stoker's Dracula a new film from Columbia Pictures coca-cola classic the official soft drink of Major League Baseball can't beat the real thing and by your Toyota dealer who invites you to discover the all new Corolla discover Corolla again welcome back to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium for Game six of the 1992 World Series the Toronto Blue Jays lead this game one to nothing they lead the series 3 games to 2 the top of the order in the 3rd for the Blue Jays Devon white took the second pitch of the ballgame in the left field for a base hit he stole second and scored the only run of this game on a sacrifice fly by Joe Carter Carter will hit third in this inning Roberto Alomar between Carter and white Steve Avery's on one pitch white tried to bunt and missed it Devon white very hot in the American League Championship Series batting 348 he along with Alomar combine for a 388 average but his World Series numbers are down strikes out on three pitches Berryhill has to throw down the prairies for the foot on one out in the third that's the first strikeout of the night for Steve Avery at curveball and a nice block by Berryhill as white goes too far the ball trickles out in front of home Berryhill throws him out now Roberto Alomar 2 for 19 in the series with his old for 1 tonight Alomar has had particular trouble from the right side of the plate against the Braves left-handers he's now 1 for 13 and he has been bothered by a sore left elbow and wrist with his elbow sliding in the home on the play in Game two with John Smoltz tagged him Alomar appear to be safe he was called out he's also hit by a pitch on the wrist he's sore that's two right and tore the gap it in for a hit justice over to cut it off holding Alomar to a long single so Roberto breaks an old for seven drought with a one-out base hit here in the third you look up and down both lineups and you see some very paltry averages of all the hitters only Pat borders is hitting over 235 in the Toronto lineup they carried a 204 team average coming in now Joe Carter who knocked in the only run of this game his sacrifice fly to right we wound up reaching invaded Justice couldn't snare the fly ball and was charged with an error Alomar off with the first pitch he'll steal it without a throw Havering with the slow move to the plate and an off-speed pitch and Alomar is 3 for 3 in stolen bases in the World Series once again the high leg kick watch Avery with that high power pitchers leg kick and Alomar stealing second without a throw he has stolen 3rd base once in this series 12 times during the regular season so he may not be through running yet 10 for 10 in his career in the postseason 8 for 8 this year Carter to the right side not as admirable because there was one out but it did appear that Carter was trying to shoot that through the hole that he had on the right side allymeier third with two down for Dave Winfield who walked his first time up one nothing Toronto the Blue Jays batting in the third started the night hitting just 204 as a team for the first five games of the World Series they already have three hits off favored with off-speed breaking ball Winfield was out ahead of it flyball should be handled with ease by Justice and it is ago Joe strand a runner at third will return to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium after this word from your local station welcome back to Atlanta where the Blue Jays lead one to nothing as we head to the bottom of the third as Pat O'Brien told you at the outset the last five teams that have held to three games to two World Series lead have all lost the World Series each of them has lost the final two games on the road eighty signals in last what Minnesota did to them at the Hetrick first time up and slams that one out of play any Series this year during the regular season to do that those day one left body which the playoffs and the world Terry Pendleton the Braves threatened and did not score last inning the first two men on they stranded bream and lousy when artist Nixon leads off the inning for the Braves he's their most important guy in the lineup he's not with two outs of modern score is similar to Devon wider Roberto Alomar winter very very important to get the first guy one on Sanders Nixon the first out of the third Jay's lead one-nothing sniping off and on and Braves general manager John Charles sure Holtz first to say yesterday the excitement level of the Braves ballclub rise when Sanders is in first opportunity to was bitching he almost did a ball out of the ballpark his first start the World Series that was Game two that was after not starting a league champion when he did play wasn't very impressive in the League championship five with three strikeouts he's turned all that around in the World Series stop you from undertaking another task yesterday he spent the day between games in Tallahassee the opening of the friends rib restaurant wait a second and that's as far as he'll get something with defense with Carter at first base we mentioned only six starts I'm not saying would get that Joe Carter that hot the first baseman's better nice play by Alomar to retrieve it in time to hold Sanders to second base based on elite time up Ragan day - person Sanders will go back to second a fastball and Pendleton slicing it position the sweat the squalor in the watch Kelly Gruber petty fraud the Braves nor for the cold was out there as Devon white engineered by Deion Sanders time for the brain but just as the better true down for justice the shortstop shallow right-center field to run lighten sliced it foul hey Sid Bream one to score the bottom 2/3 six of the 99 Susan 26 postseason 1969 is a breaking ball the second strikeout of the night this game summary is sponsored by Budweiser Blue Jays scored first in the first Joe Carter sacrifice fly scoring Devon white the Braves tied it at the third first page of the for the ball to candy Maldonado but at the SkyDome the world series for Maldonado makes it two to one Blue Jays and before that home run he was old for his last 11 at all saying in baseball he doesn't get many hits but they're all big Oh Kelly Gruber Maldonado's only other bit mentioned earlier the game-winning single in the ninth inning of Game three of Jeff Reardon brought in Roberto Alomar with the winning run into the series the 16th home run of the postseason for the Toronto Blue Jays eyes a record shared by the 1970 Orioles from the nineteen the four to one Toronto our blimp tonight is good news Stars and Stripes from Pompano Beach warden mrs. Hampton drew Marshall from Fort Lauderdale looked at ball one he singled to left his feet series in a second and by the way the third home run the Blue Jays have hit off Steve Avery all solo shots coming into the World Series eight 37 and the third most seasoned inning whose given this world series despite two long balls a versed at a game I could scream out as well as I can pitch on the short end of the new one score at the moment down the line Pendleton borders you'll try to change backed up by brain fifty quarters wait with a scoring but in all likelihood that is another hit for Pat borders it is a double is ninth bit of the series breaking ball hit off the heel of the glove of Terry Pendleton the Atlanta Braves just cannot get that borders out in this series he is sizzling DeeDee career is the first basement in third they didn't have the power the ability defensive made 41 errors as a third baseman one year drive you out of that position Manuel Lee out of the flyball to right in the second exactly one out boy Rana was didn't have a chance to digest the entire Budweiser game summary the Atlanta run came in the third Deion Sanders doubled stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Terry Pendleton in the first inning in the Blue Jays sent six men to the plate Paul Mitch Lee ahead the on-deck-circle waters and second one out and that is a big strikeout right there gets on if he walks then you have cone bunt them over and Steve Avery is in a mess of trouble big pitch bravery Leena one for his last 17 there's numbers for the entire series you check other numbers David called laid off the breaking ball 4 6 3 twin killing that ended the second to to Atlanta outfielders Otis Nixon at center and Sanders properly planned stand in line plate Dixon and Sanders will Oh the conversation of pitching coach usually Bobby Cox doesn't go to the mound unless he's going to make and the first thing he said to Steve every are you alright they have noticed something managers will say that are you alright try to relax last night by spending whose farm in North Georgia of 50 miles from Chattanooga Tennessee Devon white the better with one who's the first and second and two reclaim the lead it's to the one-two line the left of it Sanders there hard Sanders is it orders is fast runner and you see Barry and a quick tag on a play at the plate once again sure catches the ball is best weapon the ward off the runner is his left shin guard watch how Berryhill uses that to spin borders out of there they never reached the plate so it's only a two to one lead for Toronto reward dispersed a gun we first ball swinging to fly to shallow left to Maldonado tomorrow the NFL today Terry the Eagles offense Wesley the Vikings new person Jimmy Johnson tomorrow at 12:00 on the NFL today the last word before kickoff Washington administered a mat one o'clock Jeff Blauser looked at his great and singled to left back in the second it was not a swing says Jerry Crawford they remember the last time up David Cone tried to come inside twice to Blauser he was stayed away with the first and Game two Alomar made a terrific play with a runner on second and two out to save a run and he saves a runner here we won the Gold Glove last year you can just about bucket that'll win it this year and many more damon berryhill looked at a strike he was out of the fly ball to Center his first time up for 19 in the series one for his last 16 most strikeouts by a player in a World Series record is 12 set by Willie Wilson in 1980 Willie Wilson made the last out in that World Series in the six-game series I fastball from Tug McGraw again Philadelphia their only world what's Blue Jays too raise one another World Series moment from 1975 a great call by a great broadcaster Ned Martin with Carlton Fisk 12th inning home run in Game six of the 75 World Series gave the Red Sox the win and forced a game 7-7 that year force won by Cincinnati one young man who doubted he was devastated as he was growing up in suburban Boston at that time felt the result of that game the new pitcher on the mound the Atlanta Braves Burlington is its native Pete Smith he's seven a note for the Braves this year that's in the national championship series he didn't World Series appearance following four innings by Steve Avery alum on December 3 joining us to Ronald Hinks to tu-144 innings they scored in the first Devon white start the ball game of the single stole second to third in the groundout scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Carter Atlanta tied it up Deion Sanders a double he stole third scored Anna Terry Pendleton sacrificed live 20 Maldonado put Toronto back on top with a leadoff home run on Avery in the four distended Avery I yanked after 40 to the back second I think Bobby Cox with everybody available for the most part all of his pictures that is a fair ball spin line drive down the left-field line for Joe Carter Sanders juggled at once on the bullpen mound this first hit of an item fifth of the series a breaking ball to Carter that he hammers down the left-field line just fair just fair four inches but I then Bobby Cox is thinking on this just get Pete Smith through this inning and then go to another reliever and the sixth inning the whole staff is available tonight with the exception of Tommy Glavine possibly John Smoltz possible particularly with Carter and Winfield big right for the double now flying the right against Avery little J's already with seven hits Smith fastball for strike one of course much of the reason for the low batting average for Dave Winfield in the World Series game was Old World Series prior this year 1 for 22 was Winfield in the Fall Classic of 1981 a lot better this year's for for 18 one for his last 11 and 107 was kkeok Sanders has had a lot to say about this game so far a double stole a base and scored the only water game for the great the two on the Winfield it was a close fit when the catcher doesn't squeeze it Berryhill with his head twisted around Smith has thrown a couple of pitches to Winfield in this sequence when the second baseman Lemke was just about standing on second base stepped off his empty was another time right / Jo Carter taking his lead and the whole right side was open Dave Winfield hits a lot of balls to the right side too now the payoff Oh got a piece of that one off the end of the back three balls and two strikes one out Artur the runner at second we're in the top of the fifth the Blue Jays lead 2 to 1 champions of 1992 taking off the third as Winfield sends it right back here I've got you up dipping it did indeed I was ready for it go there's a harmless fly we said our button flying off my head yeah it was harmless because it went above us not it rattling around in the booth here good buzz hand and ready to make the play happy birthday to buzz by the way those are the buzzwords to have intellect center on the by the way get back Nexen have to get his balance when that appear to be ticketed for day Winfield's first-ever World Series extra-base hit we have had to see to centerfielders who are among the best in baseball Otis Nixon covering a lot of ground to make that catch Nixon by the way led all major league outfielders with averaging three put outs again gives you an idea of how the Atlanta pitchers pitch also a lot of flyball pitchers lot of guys you throw high fastball and it's very difficult to put the ball in play against the Atlantis the ball difference in the ballgame leadoff home run by Maldonado in the core I made it to the one-to-one two down slowly too short Game six to 102 with level 1 Steve Avery was removed from the game after pitching four innings and part of the reason might have been that in the first inning he had like a little splinter underneath that thumbnail that was bothering him and I think it particularly affected the grip of his curveball because he so I think there was a reason of that although he told Bobby Cox after the first inning it was okay but that plus the Blue Jays right forced by the to make that groove a little sooner than he normally would pinch-hit for Pete Smith lemke filed the first pitch of the fifth inning away for strike one let me out on a fly ball to center field his first time up Pete Smith is in the on deck circle at the moment during the break between innings we saw Lonnie Smith Otis Nixon will bat third here the three I don't think you'll use Lonnie Smith here at the 5th unless linkies on base one out nobody best pinch-hitter hitting in that a strike go to the sixth home pitched only eight is 3 1 that's just the second one we not a good header is that's what these six Smith took a fastball for a strike we want to bunt the ball to Joe Carter Joe Carter's not adaptive blame he's not a regular first baseman about 40 feet away Smith takes a ball strike field by snow Jimmy Williams the third-base coach bunted foul now it's one of my pocket-pouch trying to get a little bit too much out of heat so if you mention the rest the situation will the Treadway failed he has two ways to go he elected to go with Smith and it is a problem with the count 1 & 2 one thing you want to do is keep in mind as the runner at first base Joe Carter if he breaks too soon try to steal second base no stolen Vince's this year regular season or post season that's why come through over there that crowd a joke Carter we mentioned not a lot it's too soon you go as far as he does and by the time clone releases the ball you could possibly steal a place bunt with two strikes and fouled it on knees out that's a strikeout the first out of the inning and his silence okay in the 6th inning Lotus Nixon was twice where that's blatantly wrong one the other it's up to Pete Smith to get the next time slots upon thank you going one way the other day it doesn't matter whether in that situation I don't think we'll picture I think this is yo won the Nixon this mess two to one brain batting in the bottom of the fifth this is Game six rumba 1992 world 2 they are the champion is tomorrow night here at atlanta-fulton County State popped up along the line Lee drifts over and makes the death today he wasn't that's the second out of good Stars and Stripes why did it have you with us down at Stadium certainly playing Sanders to pull in the infield Roberto Alomar the second baseman almost shake hands with Joe Carter he's on the edge of the outfield grass raise with their first two hitters it's very very difficult to defense Otis Nixon and Deion Sanders they spray the ball around double off the glove of Jill Carter they continue down for your life 71 pitches tonight had a ratio to Oh third inning David Cone had a start this year with the New York Mets where he threw 166 pitches his next start is 133 300 pitches right about 300 pitches starts leading they make strike outs me too 1 & 2 run the unsliced back to the screen : only started eight games the Bluejays during the regular season if he is the winning pitcher tonight he would become the first pitcher ever to win the final game of a World Series for a team for which he had pitched fewer than regular-season game the more lumpy two World Series he's two for three tonight now not 4:14 lifetime this is only as for two for three tonight third with two down that was important on that it gives us a chance to step out once there all the things bird with two outs it was a bit for the first time tonight Stottlemeyer um Gaston his head the side over the course of this world series Pendelton butters is going sure this right and disgusted mr. song the pitch is and you are the second tonight is v that has many tries in thanks to the night more the great first holy two men in scoring position the time those Pendleton bounces one foul at paralysis goes gorgeous box it's a full count maybe he struck him out Baal in the middle borders for the final out of the inning the Braves leave two men in scoring position they've stranded five five Toronto to County Stadium after this back in Atlanta the first pitch of the sixth inning by Pete Smith the ball to Kelly Gruber who was over 2 tonight Gruber borders and lead to a hostage the Blue Jays lead 2 to 1 Gruber pulls one well foul in left it's really been a game of missed opportunity for each side it's Ronald Blue Jays have stranded six baserunners through five innings they've had a man thrown out of the plate that went into a double play the Atlanta Braves just the two Lawrence live on base of Alton the to out they said I think the big scoring at first and second they played it no one in one perfect inning worked by a pitcher in this ballgame that was cone in the four the ground ball Camilla hood bye allows you to have a one-two-three 1 & 2 the count on goober it's change over the last couple of years for the Atlanta Braves so much so that Pete Smith recalls when he major league debut here the 2,400 people in this line of Sanders as world of the 4:18 to the series Pat borders is single and double 2 for 2 tonight the men around him haven't hit it all 4:35 also consider the fact that borders caught 137 games this year catcher in the American League Smith has jumped ahead of him one ball in two strikes one out 6th inning 2 to 1 Toronto Game six of the World Series Blue Jays lead the best-of-seven series for attitude very very close pitch the fastball just off the plate masks now the 32 fastball Manuel Lee open 2 tonight 1 for 72 the series line to right in the second Paul third strike in the pole for the first time tonight line down the right-field line a fair ball and a base hit for late first with the aim to run oh go to the ball game I think well that's just an insignificant head well it's not with two out nobody on a base hit will clear the pitcher David Cone in this case and the leadoff batter Devon white will lead off the seventh inning that was provided that cone doesn't get on that's why Manuel Lee plays it safe and goes back to first he needs new brakes David Cole the whole play in the second late swing foul out of play bidding skills his backyard and bit of Lights in their back phone wave bye ball dancing all over the place he's been thrown to first base it is remote that Manuel Lee will try to steal a base if he's thrown out lose the value of the two-out base hit and David crumb would lead off in the seventh inning neither here pensioner he Smith's dividing his attention to first base boys Smith when he was drafted by Philadelphia originally a very Smith nasally Blue Jays to the break this World Series moment Game six 1986 little roller up along Mookie Wilson with the ground ball through the legs of Bill Buckner allowing ray Knight to score as the Mets came from behind the wing two outs and nobody on David Justice over to tonight his pop to short and struck out facing the bottom of the six six coming what letter they've only scored once and that was in the third ball to strike gun justice ah is on justice is comeuppance ooh against the left-hander David girls good time her on the line in first verse seventy-eight hits to right field this year only 22 to the left side 17 to centerfield you can be a ball hitter and not hit the ball on the ground but the thing about justice he Wow Porter's points of debate so pilot just this blue during the sixth inning we fought it off it's still three and two in the middle of this alleged assay much there's nothing to it his wife again well justise out of line drive for the first out of the inning this copyrighted telecast is presented by authorities Major League Baseball and may not be reproduced or retransmitted express written consent of Major League Baseball when you think about it who says you have to have a harmony to win three seventy four three consecutive World Championship it fights all the time just to set and justice and Deion Sanders have been / justices fiancé with water championship game the seventh game of the National League Championship Series against hold on one pitch to bring inside two balls and a strike sittest walk the decision in a moment jeff blauser we should be two for two right off be patient at the plate be aggressive on the base there is a strike one and one the cow be yeah was up earlier Todd stottlemyre and the lefty David Wells one out of rubber sixth in Toronto leads to the one - jeff blauser he has had two very dangerous at-bats against cone very very well even his foul balls of the one of those tenants tonight because it oh we can fly - 2 is a flyball starting to set in yeah now to play first base side in the 6th inning you wonder how long cito Gaston we struggle in front of it for the second out of the inning six strikeouts tonight for David Cone as the slider you see that tightly wrap the corner cafe Jessica two outs in the sixth inning 2 2 1 Toronto should bring the board at first board game struck out strikes out tie the world series record for strike big swing three the left side of the boat has been run a winner last fall Wars it is great could well be david combs last game in a Toronto the free agent again the in New York Berryhill and it's the play certainly caused a name normal to or votes throughout Canada vii still 2 2 1 Toronto CBS Sports coverage of Game six of the 1992 World Series is brought to you by Chevy trucks the trucks you can depend on the trucks that last Miller Lite it's everything you want a beard to be and by Burger King where you can get it your way right away at Burger King now this city named Atlanta back in night in 1845 but nine years before that the name of this city was terminus Georgia and the Braves are hoping that their World Series dreams are not terminated this evening and the interest of equal time in this political season named Toronto the Huron language meeting place on a great lake Devon white to right field travelers over Jays can't terminate the Atlanta season and their own world champion for the win tonight and they lead to the one as they ban against Smith it's two innings of shut about what right Stanton to the bat second in the bottom Lemke will lead off then Nixon Alomar one two three a single to right in the 30 school second identity in the whole browser amen to the night 2 for 18 and he is equaled his hit total in this one game lousy shading Alomar up toward the middle and Alomar bouncing one once it takes that high hop that Blauser fielded no chance to get Alomar and he will be running here to matter what pitch he already has one stolen base on the evening allymeier first will one down to the seventh with joke I found double down the left-field line off by spent the night make you plate ready discuss bye we mention Steve Avery earlier with that power leg kick Pete Smith grows hard without that powerful left he has a slide step toward home so he is more difficult to run on that a guy likes all my needs one stole bass guitar on game is going for it the defense was filed away ron gant with 11 consecutive stolen bases Alomar second ken griffey Otis Nixon with 8 stolen bases have certainly been a major part of this postseason so about his lap the spirit and a no chance to double up Carter not only does he make the play but he turns to his right it's tougher to throw from that angle or that is a terrific play by Terry Pendleton to get the lead runner you can see from this play why he is a three-time gold Glover Pendleton would love obviously for the first time in his career to be in the winner's circle at the World Series World Series fire - tonight on the losing team all three times the ominous record holder Fred Burkle world series without being a was the author of purples boner back in 1908 to advance on the face in lives in Bay that's second base wait play on five without winning any pp Reese played on five losing World Series teams before finally breaking through with a win fifty-five Smith working to Dave Winfield with a count of Owen one very high not particularly deep Otis neck seventh-inning stretch look back at another Game six this one from 1977 Yankees and Dodgers at Yankee Stadium Reggie Jackson with three home runs to help the Yankees win Game six the first was off Burt Hooten the second off Elias Sosa in this one in the eighth inning off Charlie Huff the only other player to hit three home runs in a World Series game Babe Ruth back in 1926 Jackson's five home runs in a series still the record that he's won that game 8 to 4 Toronto trying to win this series four games to two they have a two to one lead in Game six and a new pitcher on the mound as the Braves come up in the seventh Todd stottlemyre on relief of the starter David Cone it is his fourth appearance and he has worked exactly one inning in each appearance be the first batter or strike one and a fastball for straw has moved into the on deck circle to bat for the pitcher Pete Smith six Toronto relief pitchers who had beard in the series have combined for 13 and a third scoreless in it allowed only five hits in 40 mas be fish lundi missed it that's why you to throw down the first sound of the guitar tip that was not the first run of the ballgame in the first inning Devon white scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Carter Atlanta tighten when Deion Sanders doubled in the third stole scored on a sacrifice fly by Terry petal or again Steve Avery I'm a good one it's the baccala 7 with 1 out of the bases empty and Jeff Treadway series four Treadway who slices on a play strike one since Dave Winfield made but cito Gaston could have done brought in stottlemyre he could have put stottlemyre the number and inserted John Oliver that way you type your defense olerude could have moved to first base Joe Carter to right field but I guess cito is thinking that it's so close again I'll keep my best line up in there and not subject olerude to a possible confrontation with mic stand wires old too two down to win the ALCS the goal from day one four hits the media gets cold normally a two out nobody on but is a bad play but against Benny stolen bases as Nixon does in turn into a double that's why it's a good place for a guy like Nixon and Nixon looks lefty David Wells continues to throw in the bedroom Dixon he's 1 for 4 what a stolen base cito Gaston on his way to the mound may see the left-hander here try to get Deion Sanders out of the game not only that it could make it more difficult or Nixon the steel off the left-hander eles summon with two down in the bottom of the seventh runner at first we'll be back in just a moment Ron Gant just moved into the on deck circle to bat for Deion Sanders Bobby Cox powering the move got a left-handed pitcher David Wells into the ball game with a runner at first and two outs in the bottom of the seventh and with Toronto leading to the one David Wells his fourth start release against a rock inside here Ron loves the bar this is the night having gone three of the Single Double only run on the board for this one the swag step in a basketball the World Series problems of the plate in the live chat 182 memorable Grand Slam Oh for five of the world gripper is on the line to protect against the extra here to be out of the strike zone Gant fouled it off one ball and two strikes 25 hits to right field this year have heads to right field of last year it's yeah and thirteen stolen base 9:1 17 the bottom of the seventh - I and to the ball borders go David Wells with this caught stealing keeping Nixon so close and giving borders a chance to nail Nixon and he did in a series dominated by pitching game six no exception to 2 1 is the score in favor of Toronto as we head to the eighth inning the big head in the ballgame the solo home run by candy Maldonado in the fourth and this was a big play too as Otis Nixon is nail at second base for the first time in this postseason not only is that play important but Ron Gant now has to lead off the bottom of the 8th inning in all probability cito Gaston will bring in Duane ward who has not yielded a home run to a right-hander all year long no swing on the first pitch of the age she's Jerry Crawford he's had a busy night on the field the new pitcher for Atlanta's Mike Stanton Pete Smith did his Johnny pitch three scoreless innings of relief after coming on for Steve Avery Ron Gant remains in the game in left field I think strategically that was one of the better managerial moves by either side bringing in David Wells not only to pitched again to get Sanders out of the game and you throw out Nixon and again leading off against a right-hander you're really doing three top three things with that one move over the last two years even though Toronto has won three division titles in four years under cito Gaston this man has come under almost constant criticism from the media and many blue jay fans you wonder why so what we've seen in this series you'd have to say is a strategist we get high marks this is a man win the didn't want to become the manager blue jays ownership and management had made the decision to fire Jimmy Williams after a 12 and 24 start in 89 cito gaston was the hitting coach Pat Gillick the general manager in Palm Beach and the president the blue jays went to cito Gaston Houston said oh I think I might be getting fired and instead they offered him the managing jobs of no al wid Myers but on the coaching staff longer than I have John Sullivan why don't you give it to them I really don't want to do it I said well we would appreciate it if you would it'll just be for a few days he took over the Blue Jays started winning almost immediately more than just a couple of days Maldonado of Asia he's 2 for 4 tonight he owns the biggest hit in this ballgame the home run leading off the fourth off Steve Avery that gave Toronto a two to one lead it's still 2 to 1 here in the eighth keeps it through on the left side by the way that home run by Maldonado the ninth different player that is homered actually eight different players have homered for the Toronto Blue Jays in this series Colin Otto with two during the ALCS but his first in the World Series he's at first with nobody out in the eighth the Blue Jays up to an even ten hits now Kelly Gruber at the plate he's over three Pendleton in on the grass at third expecting the bunt it's a good buy for the strong throw won't be to get the sliding group it's a sacrifice and mom in scoring position with one out Mike Stanton almost made that very difficult for Terry Pendleton watch how he blocks Pendleton out of the play Pendleton forced to bare hand the ball there's Stanton Pendleton bear handing it and Berryhill going to third because nobody was there to cover that being that catchers responsibility if he can't feel the ball he just keeps going to third base but that could have been a very difficult play in Pendleton made it look easy now they will make the smart move and pitch around the sizzling Pat Porter's he said up first and second with one out and double play possibility with Manuel Lee scheduled to bat next borders 2 for 3 tonight proceed Oh gasp them unless Manuel Lee hits into a double-play I think we're going to see ed Sprague in this inning we able to count excuse me Shawn if Ted Sprague comes up and they bring in the right-hander a lot we'll see john olerude so the Blue Jays even though the bottom of the orders coming up they realized that Dwayne Ward's going to come in the game in the bottom of the 8th inning so a bunt in that situation makes all the sense in the world because you're going to pinch-hit for the pitcher anyway Manuel Lee digs in Derek Bell has moved into the on deck circle to bat for the pitcher critical part of the ballgame right here in Atlanta trying to keep it a one run deficit in the 8th inning one out Lee pops-up the first fish Bree today standing up to 17 in 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run his career in the postseason will be a conference of the mound discuss how they should approach Derrick Bell and Stan has held opposing batters hitless in 21 at-bats with runners in scoring position that is going back to last year against the Minnesota Twins well as you saw on his line graphically a moment ago hasn't appeared very often in postseason but when he has things of happened he was on base for Sprague's home run run in the championship series against Oakland for the right side brain goes to the shortstop Blauser that ends the inning the 2 1 Toronto in the deep left-center for Mitchell and we'll see you tomorrow the twins forced to Game seven last year when in the 11th inning kirby puckett hit a solo home run off Charlie Leibrandt for a 4 to 3 win with Jack Morris pitched 10 shutout innings in game seven to give Minnesota the world championship Duane Ward on relief for Toronto the Blue Jays six outs away from their first World Championship war will face Ron Gant who was at the play when Nixon was thrown out trying to steal ending the 7th then Terry Pendleton and David Justice battles two three and four are throwing right-hander misses inside with ball one one two of the three games at Toronto stuck out five he has walked no one allowing only one hit into an a third innings intellect sinking fast Winfield did he catch it yes he did great tumbling catch by Dave Winfield and right for the first out of the eighth inning on the catch Winfield digging up the turf as he drops to his knees and makes the play fine play by Winfield Ron Gant bidding too late on hit man take it away by Winfield find play given his lack of outfield time this year Barry Pendleton the batter one strike the count handled the sacrifice fly in the third he singled in the first struck out in the fifth all of his advanced tonight against the starter David Cone ward watches peddle to the line so the hitting line drives and just missing their bits were a base hit here in the eighth inning we talked about how right-handers have not homered against Wayne Ward this year left-handers have homered five times against Wayne premiere setup man for Tom Henke yours now Lord Himself next year is Pendleton fouls one weakly toward his own dugout one ball and two strikes one out bottom of the 8th to 2 1 Toronto the Blue Jays win tonight they are the world champions of baseball in 1992 the 1/2 from plane or outside last time prior to the World Series the Duane Ward pitched in this ballpark he was a member of the Braves in 1986 and they were on last-place finish Chuck Tanner was the manager Toronto for Doyle Alexander the brave turned around and traded Boyle Alexander for John Smoltz - to care he struck him out the ball tip squeezed by Porter's for the second out of the age on every pitch some 40,000 gathered the sky over to the Tron scoreboard in centerfield you David Justice Oh for three tonight fastball missed outside wanted all unjustice that's low now left side of the infield shift again would lead the shortstop on the right side of the infield here's to being the most bland is an ordinarily be guarding the line he's a lot closer to the army the Blue Jays would love for him to do that to take a shot to left field just for a base hit with two out and nobody on that's why that's one of the reasons the shift is on a little harmless single does nothing at least that's the Blue Jays thinking in this situation has proper thinking justice is thinking long ball all three three balls and a strike Lanta has had only two hits since the third they've had only four base runners since the third on stottlemyre Derek Bell and Ed Sprague left to right to the bottom of the eighth very very painful go Toronto with two outs and a runner for in the botany sit back the batter look at a fastball for tonight and fly the left a start that's a flyball to left not deep Maldonado makes the catch the Toronto Blue Jays three outs away from the World Championship and they love it at Sky going on to the night to one Blue Jays our thanks to captain Marshall and the crew of the Goodyear blimp Stars & Stripes for the overhead shots tonight courtesy of Goodyear ninth inning of Game six Toronto leads two to one they lead the series 3 games to 2 all three of the Toronto victories in this series have come by one run the top of the order coming up for the Jays of the ninth Devon white 2 for 4 with singles in the 1st and 4th he scored the first inning Berto Alomar and Joe Carter to follow against Mike Stanton who's been one scoreless inning line and pop Lemke ranging to first out of the mouth Devon white has been hitting the ball hard all night he hits this one hard to the left of Lemke and mark grabs it Roberto Alomar the batter he swings of the first pitch seems like the Blue Jays are anxious to get to the bottom I was thinking the same thing even though white and Alomar hit their balls fairly weird well sometimes you're so consumed with getting there to end it you fail to concentrate on scoring another insurance run or two but this game right now taking on the same tones that the Pittsburgh Atlanta game had game seven ten days ago Atlanta hoping it ends the same way Joe Carter the batter won 4-3 a double and a sacrifice fly back in the first inning two pitches in two outs the third pitch popped up no play for bream few rows back in the crowd of 50 1763 here tonight very quiet again in the bottom of the night the braves have batters 6 7 & 8 in their batting order due up jeff blauser damon berryhill and mark Lemke still plenty of firepower available to bobby cox off the bench I saw a moment ago with patents hand and Lonnie Smith you saw Terry Pendleton off the line at third base it Bream the same at first I think with two out and nobody on this is a time where you protect against the extra-base hit one ball and two strikes two down two bases empty in the top of the night the Blue Jays lead 2 to 1 he's head fair ball into the left-field corner Carter on his way to second with his second double of the night I think that's a mistake by Terry Pendleton with two outs with nobody out or one out you can understand him on the fat part of the field right now you've got to be on the line with Joe Carter facing a left-handed batter Pendleton wasn't and it's a double for Carter potentially a very big double if the Blue Jays can get him in he's going to knock Mike Stanton out of the ballgame Mark Wohlers will be the new pitcher will be back to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium in just a moment Sean McDonough with Tim McCarver Jim cotton Pat O'Brien at atlanta-fulton County Stadium Game six of the World Series Blue Jays with a win the night wrap up the World Series and they leave two to one with two outs and Joe Carter at second in the top of the ninth-inning Mark Wohlers on relief to pitch to Dave Winfield the olders throws very hard in the playoffs against Pittsburgh they had him on the radar gun at 100 miles per hour at first fish to Winfield clocked at 97 just getting loose let him warm up a bit then he might really let one fly first base is open Maldonado on down popped up and drifting out of play Walters with power has jumped ahead of Winfield on to like standing now if we was relieved the strikeout as Stanton looks on from the dugout he fits the knitting in two thirds and his the it keeps growing that hard it's going to be almost impossible for Winfield to pull the ball laying toward the right in the he throws hard Winfield didn't pull it but it's fouled and into the Toronto bullpen Tom Henke as you see is throwing down there and all we will come on to start the night and try to save it go David comb on his Smith getting loose certainly looms the distinct possibility bottom of the ninth you're doing Winfield pops it out of play previous pitch which Winfield pulled into the bullpen was 95 miles per hour Wohlers was going that might be a change I don't know if you notice that gesture by Jimmy Williams that before we went to Bobby Cox Jimmy Williams is responsible for the infielders movement and from that nodding of the head I wonder if he's looking back on playing Pendleton on the line and thinking that that would have been the best friend he's responsible for line play Oh into a 2005 her at second 2 1 Toronto the ninth-inning bounced up the middle Blauser Blue Jays have left we go to the five of the nine flower very Helen the Blue Jays three outs away from the World Championship Game seven of the National League Championship Series two-to-one Pittsburgh ten days ago Francisco Cabrera who has not appeared in the World Series for the two-run single with two outs in the ninth another rally of that type of the night the force to the one and batting against Tom Henke it's not surprising that hanky is in there but it is surprising that John overruled is not at first for defense in the Joe Carter is not in right that's your best defensive alignment and cito is opted not to use it reminiscent of 1986 when John some said the World Championship the celebrations of defense for what we related Buckner may the air with no you see group around first for the first out of the bottle now the time run is in scoring position Lonnie Smith is in the on deck circle Smith is introduced he was the hero of Game five his grand slam turned at three to two Atlanta lead into a 72 Atlanta victory came at the expense of Jack Morris in the fifth inning Smith just 2 for 12 in this world series it is his fifth World Series Francisco Cabrera on deck circle to bat for the pitcher the dramatic Pittsburgh has not appeared in the World Series and once again the wild pitch could play a part hinky to be effective has to keep it down first pitch a strike from the all the way and Smith this in the hole 1 2 we're in the bottom of the night the Toronto Blue Jays lead 2 to 1 Smith of the plate with rally caps and evidence of the Atlantic tying run at second yes and missed inside check swing the ball high 2 & 2 bounced ball two balls and two strikes he was able to squeeze it before and this was a we were talking about that splitter in the dirt a terrific play by Pat borders Lonnie Smith has working the count from Owen two to three and two Osric second with one out of the bottom of the ninth the Blue Jays lead 2 to 1 they win this game they win the World Series Oh that was hittable pinkey has made some very difficult pitches against Smith and now Borders wants to talk you know him on another pitch like that that ball was hit Smith fouling it back just missing it is Paul the miracle we'll step into the spotlight again to wait as Galen Cisco goes to the mound to talk about how they will pitch to Francisco Cabrera a lot of things come to mind right now and one is a trail runner Lonnie Smith Bobby Cox has said that he is the toughest base runner trying to take a second baseman out of a double play on a ball that to get to a middle infielder they're going to have to be careful they don't overthrow it first to allow the tying run to score a fastball hitter pitch to Cabrera stole is traded to a for by the Blue Jays at second winning run at first Cabrera takes a strike Tom Henke Toronto's all-time save leader trying to record the biggest save of his career in what could be his last game in a Toronto uniform he's a free agent at the end of the year the one-one to Cabrera ball two this Nixon on deck two balls and two strikes chop foul in a sport in which the average salary is 1 million Cabrera makes $148,000 which he uses to support a wife and to chill his mother and father too and two sisters in the dominican republic and still alive you can see the split fingers going into the Tom Hickey from that centerfield camera Steve Avery the starting pitcher for the score remains this to the Cabrera back to the screen again you Oh made the catch he started it and then it almost went over his head a rising line drive Maldonado came in then had to leap at the last moment to snare it this ball hit like a tracer to let feel watch Maldonado come in and now leap and you can see many lead in front of them our next shot leaping with Maldonado Otis Nixon the batter bottom line runners at first and second the Blue Jays swing and a Miss by Nixon burr strike one he's 1 for 4 tonight he singled his last time up 100 second base and first in theaters reminded to knock the ball down they can't make a play to save the run strike two Otis Nixon has only six career home runs one of them on Tom Henke championship - Henson took an O to that channel a favor on this ball goes in the same area scores when ten days ago Blauser for Atlanta in the as the Braves try to to game seven tomorrow night to single on an RBI prediction no error charged Nixon took second on a the play damn together the end of the ball game as a pen that's by the wind on way Charlie Leibrandt warming up in the warpath Trinity will be the for Atlanta go against Minnesota a chance for Gant to erase his memories of the ninety-two postseason doors lock bag orders he has to block everything with the win bass - one cup so therefore no chance that Hickey is pitching around Ron Gant now the three one pick popped foul straight back and out of flood pinky with a payoff pitch to Gant flyball left-center is there to make the catch and send - Extra Innings to tell the scores we miss Nixon appropriately in the spotlight of that promo is single drove in the game-tying run make it 2-2 after nine and as we go to the 10th Charlie Leibrandt becomes the fifth pitcher of the night for the Braves and there's a new second baseman in the ballgame as well Rafael Belliard takes over played only one inning at second base during the regular season from celebrating his 31st birthday tonight charlie leibrandt's first appearance in the world series the last time that he appeared in a World Series was Game six of last year when Kirby Pucket hit a home run in extra innings to win Game six for the Minnesota Twins I have never seen a more disconsolate player that Charlie Leibrandt was after that game chance to atone candy maldonado kellygrugan Pat borders to that the Toronto of the channel one strike away from the World Championship Extra Innings to earn it Maldonado an eventful night two for four then he made it to two one will remain that way until the run in the bottom of the ninth played the ball hit by Cabrera in the bottom of the night then air mailed the catcher borders with his parole trying to cut down blauser the plate allows her scored the run that made it tuna to Leibrandt quickly ahead of Maldonado no balls and two strikes leibrandt's best pitch is a circle change it is similar if you followed the earlier game similar to tommy glavine the left-hander for the braves circle change he holds the thumb and the forefinger together and throws the ball at the last three fingers Kelly Gruber on deck the one toothpick too short they brand a performer in postseason play in 1985 World Championship team that year Kansas City Royals and he was the winning pitcher in Game seven of the playoffs that year when city finished off its comeback from three games to one down to beat the Toronto Blue Jays Kelly Gruber lines a base hit into center field so the Blue Jays have the go-ahead run aboard with one out Gruber has just his second hit of the World Series he's 2 for 19 and a threat to run with above-average speed Pat borders to 4:3 a single a double last time up he was intentionally walked - to the score on the top of the 10th Toronto up to 12 hits Jays out hitting Atlanta 12 to 7 and all night long we've been talking about squandered opportunities for Toronto earlier in the night those look much bigger now they've left 11 men on base I think if Gruber does run it will be part of a hit and run I wouldn't work a straight steal in a situation like this borders been too hot with a bat the thought being that with borders hitting 474 two for three tonight that he could drive Gruber to third instead of taking a chance for him stealing second base Leibrandt to the plate borders with a fly ball bran Gannon left to die in the bottom of the tenth against Tom Henke the Braves have the meat of their order due up Terry Pendleton David Justice and Sid Greene they have Jeff Reardon throwing in their bullpen leibrandt v Atlanta pitcher of the night Steve Avery started went for allowed the two Toronto runs Pete Smith pitched three shutout in English Mike Stanton and ending in two thirds of scoreless relief Mark Wohlers faced one man and got him out now Leibrandt will pitch next to Pat Tabler Manuel Lee was the scheduled hitter cito Gaston elected not to hit for Lee in the eighth when he batted with first and second and one out at the time Gaston had a two to one lead he was more concerned with defense and he is an excellent glove man at Short and I was thinking about offense and Leo Mazzoni the pitching coach is out to the mound to chat with Libre Jimmy key is up and throwing for the Toronto Blue Jays I was looking down there he had his jacket on and he was rotating his left arm and he is up and throwing Tom Hickey has not gone to innings all year and 57 appearances the 55 of those 57 he went one inning even though he has gone one in two thirds in this series one time beg your pardon that was the American League Championship Series in game Tabler up with a 2 2 ballgame in the 10th with two outs and Gruber occurs start some of the fastball for a strike be the only lefty still available to me cito Gaston Mike Timlin and Mark Eichorn have not appeared of the bullpen for tomorrow Atlanta on the other hand has Jeff Reardon John Smoltz Marvin Freeman Tommy Glavine scheduled for tomorrow night also have David nian he the young right-hander who has not appeared in any game yet probably the last resort for Bobby Cox leader rookie in a late addition to the World Series roster tableau 5 for 14 lifetime against leader including a home run goober back to first and Ed Sprague has moved into the on deck circle the pitcher is due up next that's why they got key up in a hurry and as we mentioned a moment ago Pendleton justice and bream the scheduled trio of brave swingers in the bottom of the Thames leave her head to the plate with the 1 1 pitch check swing onto the bottom of the 10th - - to score Atlanta Braves scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game it to enforce extra innings that run in the ninth by the Braves ended the Blue Jays bullpen record streak of 15 and a third consecutive scoreless innings that is a record four World Series played by with the Blue Jays one strike away from the World Championship Pendleton justice and bream do up Pendelton a switch-hitter Jimmy key warming up in the bullpen he's a left in Pendleton one of seven switch hitters in the lineup tonight and that is a world series record never have so many switch hitters a number of records have been said in this series in the way probably Tom Henke Victor they see Pendleton as one with the rain with a first inning single sacrifice fly for an RBI and the third struck out twice since then strike on the outside corner Alfredo Griffin is the new shortstop for Toronto they hit for him in the top of the tank in two balls in a strike jiae's are guarding the line Jeff Blauser bounced and score the tying run it pays off this time as part of perfectly positioned for Pendleton one out in the bottom of the town there's Joe Carter and your play on the Pendleton high chopper and that looks like it's going to be all for Tom Hickey he will indeed Jimmy key trots in to become the new Toronto hurler will return to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium after this word from your local station maybe huh yeah yeah right two right-handed pitchers are left for Toronto Mike Timlin and Mark Eichorn of course Jack Morris pitched two nights ago in an emergency I would imagine cito Gaston could call on Morris Jimmy King one and OH game four up in Toronto he called it his proudest moment as a member of the Blue Jays now emotional when he came out of that that it was probably going to be his another free agent at the end of the year now you statistically might question this move because David Justice unusually is a much better career hitter against left-handers than he is right-handers 49 points better big swing and a Miss for strike one just as over three tonight with a walk in the a getting off Duane ward he'll be followed by Sid Bream - to the score out bases empty bottom of the temp check swing and a foul to the Toronto dugout he quickly had no balls and two strikes the o2 pit bounced down the line and foul TWiki schedule lead off the next inning cito Gaston did not make a double switch you could have brought in john olerude will partner to left field and taken Maldonado out of there a lot key to hit the number six stop number five spot about the huddle the next in it uh-huh 1 & 2 now on justice through Kaiba Griffin was play the ship pays off for Toronto the shortstop on the right side of the infield the ball came right to Alfredo Griffin for the second out of the town actually Griffin was shielded from that ball he did he took one step to his left in many the ball right back through Jimmy key Sid Bream open till 9:00 with two fly balls is also what Jimmy key was murder on lefties during the regular season he nailed them to 176 batting average only two home runs among all left-handed starters in baseball drop down to first Carter and the Braves go an order in the bottom of the 10th we had the 11th the Blue Jays coming up in a 2-2 ballgame welcome back to Game six of the 1992 World Series from Atlanta Fulton County Stadium - to the score the Atlanta Braves tied the score on a base hit by Otis Nixon with two outs in the bottom of the ninth a brought Jeff Blauser in from second Nixon has said several times that he thinks he's enjoying this postseason more than anybody else participating because he was not able to take part in the postseason a year ago serving a drug suspension how about this Jimmy Keys going to hit for himself so it looks like cito Gaston has determined that Jimmy key for the most part is a starting pitcher in this role at least until the next time the pitcher hits key on the top of the order Devon white and Roberto Alomar against Charlie Leibrandt is pitched one scoreless inning he allowed one this is the first major league at-bat for Jimmy key he's been in the major since 1984 the last time a release that's what P is tonight hit this late in the game in this ballpark Rick Aguilera made the last out last year in the 12th inning where the bases loaded Aguilera the stopper for the Minnesota Twins Jimmy King wasn't it an outstanding hitter in college at Clemson his first-team all-acc player as a pitcher and as a D H asking a lot of it bro witnessing might be a little bit rusty yeah hasn't been in college since 1982 a career 300 average for the Clemson Tiger a pop-up bream that did a hint during the workout in the man who threw batting practice to them as the general manager Pat Gillick the former minor league pitching was very sore we saw him in the clubhouse before the game today there's Pat the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays in a Witherington to the left jamming the board Devon white the hitter Oh non-white he's 2 for 5 tonight singles in the 1st and 4th inning who scored a run way back in the first Leibrandt misses up and in one and one that was for effect rarely does Charlie Leibrandt come inside to a right-hander especially in a game situation when he intentionally throws a strike inside he'll go back outside to wipe Leibrandt ahead of white one and two with one out in the 11th inning two to the score Roberto Alomar is on deck hidden john shulock was calling him out on strikes instead he was indicating the ball brushed Devon white and he has first base with one out Leibrandt coming inside just a little bit too much and it hits the left thigh of Devon white white not trying to get out of the way but he tried enough in the opinion of john shulock call just hitting his left thigh he's at first and a threat to run with Roberto Alomar up Leibrandt goes to first on white stole his first stolen base of the World Series back in the first inning it set up the runs scored in the first Alomar 2 for 5 Leo Jason I'm sorry Tim the Blue Jays have had a hit in every inning tonight except this the 11 Johnson Leibrandt has 16 pickoffs on the year 16 an excellent move to first base 12 pickoffs last year he goes over the first again Toronto Blue Jays have had exactly one hit in every inning prior to the 11th except the fourth in which they had three hits it's Terry Mulholland of Philadelphia a Lamar squared upon comfort from Leibrandt low for ball one that was a ShowMe bunt right there no way is Alomar's bunting with one out and white at first base maybe a hit and run here if you're the runner at first base and a hit and run situation you have to make sure the pitcher pitches the responsibility is on the hitter to make contact Leibrandt will again go to first the hold white clothes to the plate and line to the center field ahead white to second and he'll stop there Roberto Alomar with three hits tonight he's guarded the night with only two hits in this series first and second and one out for Toronto in the 11th Alomar waits on the change-up he gets it and delivers I don't think there is any way that Bobby Cox is going to allow Leibrandt to face Joe Carter Jeff Reardon is warm in the bullpen tough decision right here made particularly tough by Reardon's failures in this series if you're not going to bring reared men in this situation why is he warming up those two Joe Carter will face Leibrandt once two hits tonight a pair of doubles outstanding speed on the base pass for the Blue Jays Devon white at second Roberto Alomar for Houston one out throw Carter had a sacrifice fly back in the first inning that was nearly four hours ago Leibrandt nearly threw it into center field Belliard had to leap to field it and reach over the head of Devon white at the same time it was an awkward twist toward second by Charlie Leibrandt by the time he turns he sees that white is there and Belliard as his left arm serving as a necklace for Devon white the o12 Carter blow it in one ball and one strike in his career against Charlie Leibrandt Joe Carter is a 275 hitter 11 for 40 he's never hit a home run off Charlie Libra well hit that well foul you Marvin Freeman weird indeed three right-handers small spirits at all we're drawing at the moment he's ready at the face Carter runners take off Carter lifts one to center not deep Devon white John's back the second for the second day we're in the 11th - to the score Bobby Cox has Jeff Blauser Damon Berryhill and Rafael Belliard scheduled a bat in the bottom of the 11th inning Bobby Cox aware of all the stats and he knows that 3:02 against Charlie Leibrandt including four home runs in 53 at-bats against Lieber the first board for 21 of the series when filled a very good off speed hitter why Winfield hits Leibrandt well Leibrandt is not a hard thrower he relies on his changeup Winfield will get either the fastball or the changeup Leibrandt does have a curveball but you don't want to throw anything but your best in this situation changeup for a strike all in one strike favorite looked white back toward second Belliard wasn't very close to the bag Nate Winfield has only driven in one run in this series he tries to erase the pain his world series experienced in 1981 all the bad memories would go away will right you in the dirt blocked by Berryhill two balls and a strike when filled with runners in scoring position one for 70s old for 3 tonight and you mentioned Winfield trying to erase past the World Series that's what Charlie Leibrandt is trying to do too Wingfield has ended three and inside with the hit by alibi really at least one hit in every love 13 hits it all they've got 12 men on Days had a winner thrown out of the place and David for two balls and two strikes fastball slicing in the corner right there - - to score with two men on in the 11th inning of Game six of the World Series loan away the now the runners will get the jump with the three and two pitch up coming in two hours the runners go on the caliche Winfield down the line of his head into the left-field corner what has scored al around the ball gets away from Gant it's a two-run double for Dave Winfield and a 4-2 Toronto lead yeah this is the first extra-base hit of the World Series ever for Dave Winfield boy did he save the right time to get it Toronto up by two Winfield had come to the plate 44 times in World Series play without an extra-base hit before that one a two-run double driving in Devon white and Roberto Alomar in the Blue Jays are ahead again for two to the base hit by Winfield the 14 Blue Jay hit of the night he's in scoring position for candy Maldonado might add that that is exactly what Winfield hit he had a changeup the off-speed pitch we talked about his prowess with the straight change Leibrandt had to go to his strength but Winfield was stronger for the second year in a row Game six agony for Charlie Libra certainly Bobby toxic decision to stick with Leibrandt to face Carter Winfield and now Maldonado is a clear indication that he is a little bit gun shy about using Reardon yep given Reardon's problems earlier in the series Jeff Reardon gave up two hits and both were game winners as hits the game-winning home run by Sprague the two-run homer in Game two that gave Ronald a 5-4 win and the hidden Game three by Maldonado the man at the plate now in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and one out revealed Toronto the 3-2 to win in that ball the two two-bit popped up Rafael Belliard on the outfield grass ends the inning but the Blue Jays get two huge runs on Dave Winfield's first-ever extra-base hit in the World Series if three outs away again and will return after this word from your local station Jeff Blauser Damon Berryhill and Rafael Belliard the scheduled three for Atlanta in the bottom of the 11th the Braves will need to dig into their bag of tricks again to run in the bottom of the ninth the force extra innings will need to to keep it alive in the bothy level we're ready in Toronto to have the biggest party that city has ever seen a lot of the Braves were irritated when in Thursday morning's paper the Blue Jays celebratory parade route was printed in the newspaper backed out of the drawer again not much left on the bench for Bobby Cox Brian hunter and Javier Lopez and that's it remember again ten days ago the Braves trailed by two in that part of the ninth-inning and it was Jeff Blauser who scored the tying run in the ninth inning tonight Jimmy key the chance to earn his second win of the series and we will about that when this ballgame began pacing jeff blauser line two left here we go again lousy stuff the game starts the 11th with a base hit that will bring the tying run to the plate so clauser starts it off again talk about an uphill battle they a strong hitter from the right side of the plate rafael belliard is on deck he is not a strong offensive hitter if berryhill can get on then Belliard will be allowed to put them over without a throw it was a perfect double play ball with Berryhill it bounced up at the last moment Griffin couldn't handle it now the tying run is aboard at first base john smoltz running the ball came up on Griffin watch how it scoots along and right there it comes up and hit him in the thumb of the glove it's going to be an error but it was a tough hop wowser goes the third on the play Belliard I would imagine we'll still be bunting because only the it is an error charged to Griffin the first Toronto Larry I this world series to be fancy does bunt toward curse that it's a foul ball if you remember in that NLCS Game seven ninth-inning Jose leaned the sure-handed second basemen of the pirates error that led to a rhyme when they grade scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to win it during the regular season to third but now the time scoring position lousy still 1/3 got the second at a nice fun five Jimmy key thought about seconds you can seem looking at Hunter in until 50 the World Series is one he drove in a run with a sacrifice fly earlier in the series the Blue Jays lead 42 one out two men in scoring in the bottom of the 11th to the bow discussed a strategy with punch 12 of his 14 home runs during the regular season off lefties and hunter average the home run every 13 times up against left-handed pitching in the regular season he only started against right-handed pitchers this year you can see his much better against left-handers cito Gaston is going with please first pitch a ball the hunter one hit was a bunt single off the end of the bat down to first fighter makes the play for the second out of run scores it's four to three Toronto sighing runners at third base but the Braves are again and again it will be who singled with two outs and two strikes the count in the bottom of the ninth to drive in the game-tying run it was Jeff Blauser who made it 2 to 2 well he went to Astrid cito Gaston wants to talk to I think he wants to remind the corners Joe Carter and Kelly Gruber and Jimmy key the pitcher that Nixon will bunt that's what makes Nixon as a batter with a runner on third and two outs most dangerous because of the possibility of the bunt or the infield hit John Smoltz represents the tying run well going to go to the right-hander Mike Timlin will be the new pitcher for Toronto when we come back Mike Timlin pitched one inning in Game five that was the seventh inning if you remember and what pressure on this young man just to get one out Jimmy key was taken out of the game we think what caused Otis Nixon is a much better hitter against left-handed pitching Timlin will be pitching the Nixon and interestingly Nixon got the hit to tie the game in the ninth inning from the left side and there they are the numbers for Otis Nixon so that's why they brought Timlin in the switch Nick sit around a lot of things rental managers mind here Otis Nixon is a left-handed batter gets down to first a lot quicker than he does from the right side he's a better Bunter as a left-handed batter the ball is hit to an infielder they better hurry Nixon 2 for 5 tonight including the RBI single with two outs and accountable into the bottle tonight vega - to Mike Timlin saved only one game this year now he's on to save the biggest win in Toronto Blue Jay history with the tying run at third and two down in the bottom of the 11th for three Blue Jays John Smoltz the pinch runner at third Nixon bus crash the first for the first time in history the world championship banner will the border the Toronto Blue Jays are baseball's best in 1992 president Dave Winfield the game-winning hit Jimmy key the winning pitcher Mike Timlin the save that final pitching scenario all four wins in this world series for Toronto by one run including Game six for three the final and eleven in only their 16th year as a major league franchise the Toronto Blue Jays have won the World Championship Oh Canada what a series we'll be back in just a moment
