last night 10 to 7 but Tom also a couple of memorable things happening here today at Comiskey Park it's the 80th birthday and it's the last time the New York Yankees will ever play a game in old Comiskey Park isn't that amazing they've played hundreds of ball games here hopefully they'll go out on a losing note now today's pitcher Greg Hubert has been just outstanding with consistency all year long but I think a key for Greg is to really establish that breaking ball early in the ball game he's got the great changeup and the outstanding curveball but the Yankees are very good against left-handed pitchers and his opponent today Andy Hawkins he's been struggling he is 1 in 4 yeah he really has scuffled as the plate and he's a good pitcher though they signed him as a free agent New York liked them he had a pretty good year for him last year but he really hasn't gotten his act together yet this year all right Hibbert against Hawkins and Tom we'll be back for the rest of the afternoon's ballgame first for the Sox they've got to keep those three top hitters off the base Kelly sacks and Mattingly very very dangerous the three top hitters in their lineup so it's very important for Hibbert to keep those guys off the sax Hawkins hey Andy Hawkins has really scuffled the first three innings of every ballgame so he's got to keep the Sox down early he's got to get off to a good start this afternoon that Hibbert he's got to have that good curveball and changeup working the Yankees are very tough against left-handed pitchers so far this season so with that in mind scuffling one in four with a 6-4 9er a in 12 starts and he'll be facing this Chicago White Sox lineup given by manager Jeff Torborg being off in centerfield Lance Johnson batting second third baseman Robin Ventura Devon Calderon is the DHS afternoon hitting third man Kido returns to first face hitting fifth he's followed by capture run Scottie Fletcher is the second baseman hitting seven Sammy Sosa and Wright is the eighth place hitter bringing up the rear capitan shortstop Ozzie guillén pitching this afternoon for the Sox Hawks favorite little bulldog Greg ever never 6 and 4 with the RA of two five nine and fourteen starts so far this season some more numbers given up only 79 hits in 19 a third innings 25 walks and 44 strikeouts in Gregg Hibbert in his last start Monday against California he won that game did another outstanding job going eight in the third innings giving up eight hits no runs walking none in striking out four so control is a key factor for a Greg Hilbert success career-wise against the Yankees he's won and over the 372 VRA and that's over nineteen and a third innings the weather in Chicago absolutely perfect for baseball they're blue skies temperature at 66 degrees wind out of the north at 16 sunny and pleasant when out of the North could be a good day for the pitchers that went blowing straight in from centerfield the umpires today at home plate [Applause] I've always loved watching baseball nothing besides cold coke at Comiskey Park but being from a family of centers I was never too good at playing baseball [Applause] you could get hurt trying to catch a curb this way kids get White Sox baseball cards at the July 29th Sox Brewers game and here are the socks on all news 67 the last season in the historic Comiskey Park years from now you'll say you were there when the standpoint of how well you pitched a no-hitter and you lose it for nothing your feelings as you went into that eighth inning ballgame I don't how long we'd be out there and not just that I wanted to hold him give us a chance and once you know the wind and it's kind of ironic the way it turned out it's a tough outfield out there right now the winds blowing in hardness playing all kinds of tricks with the ball and has a tough play cuts up a couple of plays out there and just didn't go our way but the guys are giving their best and we're all giving her best when it's done just didn't work out I could the rear I could read there is the frustration in your body when you walked off the field I know it's very tough not happened I've given up a hit and walk off and know you're down four to nothing I'll tell you what is really tough to fill a no-hitter and get B I don't know if too many instances where I've seen that happen three well and I feel good about my own performance today we're doing okay I think you're gonna be alright we just need to just keep her heads up and stay with it a one ball that was hit hard it looked like it was gonna be a base hit was the ball hit my Sammy Sosa in the 5th inning and the wind kept that ball in the ballpark and that was really the only quote that was the closest thing to a base hit not a doubt he got all that ball any other night any other nights we played here in that balls and upper deck easy so I went help me out there and it saved me three runs and a hit right away you know ironically eighty years ago this ballpark was open then there was a no-hitter pitched in this ballpark and the pitcher lost it was all right Maryana it's a little history coming back to haunt you with it yeah I tell you that's that's boy the years going right now I'm this kind of par for the course but we're gonna grind it out I've got a long ways to go we can still make a success out of it the way you've struggled the first part of the season but the last four or five times out of the mound you have pitched spectacular baseball he will know the loss and no-hitter etc you've got to be very happy the way you've been pitching well thank you Tom I appreciate it it was kind of a struggle early but I could have won my last four starts I think I feel I feel very confident about the way I'm throwing the ball right now biggest thing is this carried over five days from now I keep it going I think you probably give up one base hit and take a win wouldn't you without a doubt go good luck keep kissing the same way and you know Andy Hawkins a no-hitter today four to nothing a loss a very tough loss for him a very tough loss for the Yankees and a piece of history made here at Comiskey Park all right let's go back
