after half rain delay we're getting underway here in Atlanta Len Dykstra just recalled from tidewater batting 242 he has one homer four RBIs he was just recalled when Mookie Wilson went on the disabled list and he's got outstanding speed just like Mookie Wilson he once stole 105 bases in minor league baseball and we're underway from Atlanta Fulton County Stadium on this fourth of July before a sellout crowd Dykstra trying to bunt his way on may do it Hubbard picks it up throws and on the play so one pitch one out here in the top of the first now wally backman the second baseman batting 250 no homers seven RBIs not in front of the plate let's see if Nadeau can throw him out I don't think they'll get him safe at first is Wally Backman that's a base hit for the New York second soccer and it will bring up teeth Hernandez Rick's Artemis judges this ball and that has to surround it he sort of breaks too far to his left where Bob took a funny hop there and that cost him about a step and a half and that was enough to allow him to beat the rep Fernandez batting only 251 to this point this season with four homers 31 RBIs [Applause] you be the judge either way you call that you got an argument at the rate this game is going the big 5th of July fireworks show will be presented right after the contest lima left-center field Murphy's not going to get there either as Terry Harper Hernandez heads for a second and he will coast in with his 13th double of the season [Music] this is the way he was a few file you pitch him away goes with the pitch bingo so Hernandez down at second with two men out picking off wally backman a big play in listening to this point as Gary Carter steps in Carter will probably be the starting catcher in the all-star game he's the leading vote-getter by a wide margin right now he's been a red-hot hitter of late having 345 over the last two weeks and he takes low ball one Rick mailer Owen one against the Mets this year two and four against New York lifetime here's the one out bouncing ball up the middle way that Paul just stopped out there they [Applause] so now chance for a throw it's one nothing New York realize it was that wet out there in channel centerfield but that ball just stopped dead and you could really see the water splashing when Murphy came running in tarter drives it his 35th run of the air got the fastball up around the belly just did get by Hubbard now watching that's a familiar sight for some of us I'm a golf course yeah Darryl Strawberry just getting back into action takes a strike on the inside corner and he was a Pluto thumb injury for almost two months he's batting 207 six homers 13 RBIs three hits in the inning now off Miller and the O one coming miss low one-on-one [Music] the check of the runner and the one one coming just outside 2 & 1 [Applause] this guy has one of the smoothest swings you'll ever see in baseball and a 2-1 pitch on the way the let-up is lying towards center that's gonna fall for a base hit Gary Carter will stop at second base and four hits in the ending now off Rick Mahler who is not fooling anybody in this first inning the batter will be George Foster Foster batting 244 with 12 homers 35 RBIs the Mets like the Braves like the San Francisco Giants like so many teams in the National League this year has some difficulty scoring runs the runners laid from first and second and foster takes of all gray night waiting on back now the 1l pitch breaking ball missed to a No one run in here in the top half of the first runners first and second two men out and a tool pitch coming far away [Applause] laughter now in his fourth year with the New York Mets he's 36 years old the Atlanta bullpen starts to get ready Rick campus up out there and the two one is high an outside three and one Rick has not been able to throw that off-speed breaking ball for a strike in the city there's camp down in the Atlanta bullpen I don't think it takes a Rhodes Scholar to point out that when mr. Gooden and a 1.65 er a you don't want to spot him too many now 3 1 pitch coming to foster he walked him and Ray Knight will step in the Mets had been platooning at third-base with Ray Knight starting against left-hand pitching Howard Johnson starting against right-hand pitching but neither player was having a very good offensive year Knight still only hitting 180 but Davey Johnson for the time being has given night the third base job hoping that by playing every day he could pick up on those numbers from the windup the pitch tonight again the breaking ball missed well you're right there's his story if he can't throw that curveball for strikes he's in a world of hurt doesn't seem to be missing by much bases-loaded two outs one run in and the one out pitch coming there's a fastball for a strike one on one if mailer can pitch out of this inning with no further trouble the Mets will have had an inning very typical of them this year that had four hits in a walking inning and so far only one run now the one one got the outside corner mayor ahead in the count on ray Knight at a ball and two strikes [Applause] Gary Carter is the runner at third Darryl Strawberry at second George Foster at first two men out we're in the top half of the first inning after a rain delay of nearly an hour and a half and the 1 2 pitch struck him out with a fastball [Applause] the Mets score only one despite four hits in a walk when they go to the bottom half of the first inning with New York leading it one nothing bottom half of the first inning there's a look at the Mets defensively an outfield of Foster Dykstra and strawberry the infield has Knight Santana Backman and Hernandez Gary Carter doing the catching and on the mound twenty-year-old Dwight Gooden he is all in one lifetime against Atlanta and it'll be Claudell Washington Rafael Ramirez and Dale Murphy due up against this youngster who made the jump to the major leagues all the way from a ball moving from Lynchburg in 1983 where he won 19 in lost 4 to the Mets last year for a 117 in lost 9 and struck out two hundred seventy six men in 218 innings Washington batting 279 homers 23 RBIs fouls the fastball back out of play Gooden pitching tonight for the first time all year with only three days rest he was originally slated to pitch tomorrow night when then the Mets realized if they kept him on that Ford days rest between starts program he'd pitch only twice more before the all-star break by starting tonight he can pitch three times at least one for Washington he's gonna third [Applause] Washington really dick top the Mets defense he slow down just a little bit going into second they thought he was going to stop when he didn't he took off for third he's got a triple and with a big mob the shortstop Santana get back with any help at all first of all strawberry has trouble coming up with a ball in right field he's sliding around in that mud you see that there what everybody thought Washington was going to be there as he saw strawberry throat toward the cutoff Manny took off again job of baserunning there right Ramirez batting 262 with three homers 29 RB Rey is trying to get that run right back here in the bottom of the first Goodin will work from the stretch bouncing volatile school on the run so Atlanta getting man to run right back to mouth Dale Murphy steps in Murphy 294 with 20 homers 55 RBIs [Applause] one ball no strikes if he were to ever time one of those fastball wouldn't that be something you would wonder how far I could go here's the 1o pitch high and tight now the Tooele pitch on the way and that mystery and Oh [Applause] Goodin normally with excellent control only 35 walks in a hundred thirty six innings averaging almost and strikeout per inning but he's behind murphy three and nothing Bob Porter on deck [Applause] he walked him on four straight Murphy the runner at first with one man out and the pitch to honor is high and that's five in her own out of goodness messed with down low to an O six straight have missed the strike zone the count still to a no on Horner manis mouth Reno Gooden uncharacteristically wild here in bottom half of the first [Applause] he has messed with seven straight and the 300 offering is high ball four [Applause] Kari Harper the batter hitting 244 with seven homers and 33 runs driven in one man out the game is tied 1-1 in the bottom of the first and there's a strike on the inside corner nothing in one [Applause] here's the o1 there's that Goodman curveball for a strike nothing into is found the strike zone on Harper [Applause] here's the o2 pitch curve strike him out [Applause] Goodings first strikeout number two in the inning and Ken Oberkfell will be the matter I'll be batting 281 hundred fifteen RBIs [Applause] the runners late from first and second and the pitch to Oberkfell is up high ball one he looks like he's just letting it out a notch now are you just getting loose I've got to believe the warm-up situation tonight probably affected both pictures here's the one oh he had some zip on that one it's a 1-1 game two men out bottom of the first inning [Music] and the one one coming off the end of the bat foul hey you know he's only three years ago he was pitching the hey school kids my goodness let's think what that must have been like 20 years old I can't even remember what it's like too bad out of the inning [Applause] and a 1 2 pitch you on the way mister hi it's doing dude [Applause] [Music] and the 2 2 pitch is a curve just missed inside good inviting Lana had Oberkfell struck out on that curveball instead it's a 3-2 pound now the runners will be taking off with two men out Rick Cerrone waiting on deck he probably said thanks a lap when he saw his name in there and played in a month the runners go on the three tuna fists inside to load the bases three walks in the inning [Applause] and a banner is Rick Cerone mcfist came off the disabled list on Tuesdays and bothered by an ailing shoulder on the air batting 242 with two homers and 11 RBIs [Applause] the bouncing ball right side Hernandez knocks it down Goodman is there to cover and the inning is over so as was the case in the top half of the first inning when the Mets swept the bases loaded the Braves do the same thing and we go to the second inning all tied up now we're about ready to go Terry Tator the plate umpire it is chatting with Jerry Crawford down the first base line Bob Horner is at first base there's one out Gooden went two and a third innings allowed two hits walked four struck out three is allowed one run to this point Horner at first base is his responsibility as well well here's Harper who's struck out his first time McDowell five and three in her run average of three he has five saves this is his 24th appearance he had one great outing feat that I didn't see against the Braves earlier this year worked five scoreless innings faced 15 hitters and retired all 15 in order that's about as good as you can do it just about barber leaves at first and has chased back by an Adele that's all this game really needed as a protest wonderful didn't get the breaking ball does she throw a split finger fastball like our fourth ball is that McDowell's and I'm not sure [Applause] filed it or is it a first place line it is a foul ball boy it is really wet here now they have sand all over the plate all over the third-base area all over second Carter has got mud in his eyes and now from where that ball hit I guess you know I asked Terry Tator to be the surgeon say that shooter said no you guys protested the game this was a 41 minute delay that puts us at 2 hours and 11 minutes on the night rain delay McDonnell is out of Cincinnati it still makes its own that [Applause] [Music] leo - or that didn't miss by much ballin - thanks mcdowell last year pitched in only three games because if I'm prep it foul past Bobby wide [Music] that elbow surgery had chips removed from his right elbow without a Bowling Green Ohio University of all two strengths [Music] flyball short said thanks [Applause] I hid for Hyper and you can keep it in the air tonight from now on on both teams you've got a chance while the footing is very bad out there but also the ball is just gonna stop whenever it hits out there and you have to run a little differently when you're coming in on a ball yet that's sort of shorten up your strides to just try to keep your balance and stay on your feet it looks like fun [Applause] hey lovebirds ma'am we used to love to play football as kids back in high school [Music] Toby walked his first time strike call oh and one this is going to sound like kind of a silly thing to say but it's true you're playing the outfield on a night like this your shoes get so waterlogged they actually become extremely heavy should have guys like Forrester and me in the outfield we used to be heaven now come to think of it maybe we shouldn't have guys like oh and to the count Oberkfell two on and one out we're supposed to have an hour of fair skies and then perhaps more of the wet stuff will fall line to the right center [Applause] [Music] [Applause] for oversell [Applause] 17 RBIs that was in the ninth double [Applause] and one thing that this shows you right away is that there are portions of the outfield that aren't in such bad condition this balls made a little bit of a splash out there but it rolled like it normally would on dry grass so that part of the outfield anyway not quite as waterlogged as shallow center field is so McDonald has faced too bad as they both hit Cerrone takes the strike so he closed the book on Gooden with two and a third innings two hits two runs four walks three strikeouts he could be the losing pitcher in this and will be unless the Mets rally they have plenty of time to do that though we're only in the third made it and got the breaking ball runner at second one out - in I chased a terrible 15 C is absence of playing time there surrounded mcdowell gets his first and here's Brian hummert bob is down to 223 they have first base open and the pitcher do next but they're gonna pitch to hover right back for the man he hit it sharply about Macau Buffett the inning is over but a lot of breaks on top they score two on three hits no errors in a runner starting to rain in atlanta-fulton steady Rafael Santana leads it up not too hard yet one ball no strikes further activity in the midst both in a right-hander is a might be Doug's sister and again it might be Terry leach two balls no strikes Santana flied to Center his first time bleaches out of our organization to it yes he is thank you Randy Johnson day 2 & 1 the count Santana Oberkfell knock me down cleanly because of the wet track that's a hit for Santana I think he gets to that ball on a dry field but it isn't dry and he didn't get to and let's see if we got a pinch-hitter here for graduate down yeah Clint Hurdle will come out and finish it Hurdle has been around the block a few times he's hitting 227 two homers five are behind he is one of those guys who had that budding superstar reputation never quite lived up to he's been with the Reds Kansas City was where he came up he's been an infielder and I'm feelin out catcher Renard first nobody out so a potential tying run at the plate hurdle takes it low and inside McDowell and two-thirds of an inning a strength at two hits one run charge to him outside let's do another if there's any rain at all now it's so light that it's not bothering most of the folks some have umbrellas up Jeff Dedmon works in the Atlanta bullpen it's three-and-oh and Mahler and Cerrone get together Rek warmed up twice and then had to sit back down again and then one about the third time before this game even began now he's gone through that rigmarole again and you just wonder how many times a guy can do that the pitch is a strike over the outside corner three and one Hurdle a big Rob Owen left-hand hitter check swing foul back full count 3 & 2 normally you might send a speedy runner like Santana but I would guess that Davey Johnson might be a little hesitant in this month [Music] pretty well hit to left field but Harper is back that runaway manner gets hurdle and his Len Dykstra of a centerfielder thanks drew as bounced a second flied to Center in the other baseball the PI the Padres beat the Pirates afternoon 9 1 Phillies 3 1 over the Reds Giants 6 4 over the Cubs cards beat the Dodgers 3 to Houston and Montreal tied 3-3 after 8 they've moved along in the American League as well hotshot got under the glove of Oberkfell in the left field Santana will stop at second [Applause] wait I don't know but it doesn't look like Rick has much left after no it doesn't he didn't look like he was him South even early in the game he was very wild early particularly in the third inning when he walked three in a row and this may be all for many houses on the way to the mound now that is gonna be all for Rick minute and Jeff Dedmon will get the call out of the Atlanta bullpen this is a little bit surprising and this this is rather early for Dedmon to appear in a game but after the off day I guess he feels he has camp and Dedmon and forster and shields and of course bruce sitter all available down there so rick mailer is through for the night jeff Dedmon comes on and we'll be back right after this mailer and three and a third innings gave up 6 SC struck out two men they walked for is given up one run the runners on base are his responsibilities Jeff Deadman he has been a very pleasant addition I started to say pleasant surprise but people in the brand's organization are not surprised at all by his good pitching and he will face wally backman it was leg down an infield hit and been thrown out by Glenn Hubbard he at least is the scheduled hitter [Music] the middle that's true for a basin that should score one again the ball stopped dead out there each third easily it's three to two [Applause] the Braves lead is different definite jeopardy here as Keith Hernandez comes to the plate I'll tell you what playing centerfield tonight whether you're Len Dykstra or Dale Murphy is impossible that ball is just going to stop whenever it gets into that portion of centerfield but you can't really play shallow because you have to be deep enough to catch any flyball and hit to the deeper part of the ballpark there's no way to be correct and where you position yourself on any hitter and this'll sound silly too but if you ever have a chance to throw a runner out after it's landed in all that you're gonna throw spit ball if you're not careful by accident all right it's going to slide out of your hands and wind up behind you I've seen that happen a couple times that's a little embarrassing [Music] we're in the fourth inning already it's three to and it's at least three three I think watching [Applause] that'll score too around second he Hubbard doesn't even bother to throw l was there to catch that ball Georgia Championship Wrestling that's already been talking about the putting in the outfield and you can't blame any outfielder when something like that happens he is going toward the ball looks like he has no problems at all with it and right when he tries to put the brakes on and make the catch whoops now two goes sliding in that wet grass well we say that in baseball things always even out but we didn't expect them to even out that fans for Hernandez a missed call by an umpire caught him cost him a hit in the third and he gets it right back on what should have been an out in the fourth the Mets lead by a run and the pitch is a strike to Gary Carter who it's a triple all the way of course for Hernandez's second of the year that was the knuckle curve Dedmon has been hit hard [Music] well do i Gooden is off the hook he can no longer win or lose this game [Music] up the middle another base in another run is in its 5/3 has been cuffed around here and that's unusual further activity will commence in the Atlanta Boca as Darryl Strawberry stanza Steve shields will come to work boy he has gone from a member of the starting rotation to total anonymity look like it was a knuckle curve that didn't break much the Carter hit his Darryl Strawberry a little tap down the first base side Horner's on the clay will be the first Dedmon won the race at strawberry for a big guy can really [Applause] as George Foster hit it right off the plate Dedmon brakes immediately toward the bag Horner leads him nicely with that underhand toss only got him by a step though foster at 2:44 12 homers 35 RBIs the strike oh and one [Applause] and the o1 pitch here it it just miss low I guess the ball on the strength they're in extra innings of the Astrodome Montreal in Houston tired of three bourdelle comes on in short right [Applause] a very profitable one five hits no errors and a runner left seven through to four go to the bottom half for the fourth inning and the Braves are down back up knee the starter is in there we go to the bottom of the fifth and this is the beginning for the Mets because it becomes an official game in three outs Mets lead it 5-3 bottom of the fifth bag with you now on Braves television John sterling and Ernie Johnson Bob Horner will eat against the submarine reliever attorney leaps it was a capacity crowd when we got here tonight and we're reading for Braves baseball it is something less than capacity now after two lengthy rain delays and I would say this in between the rain delay has been a very slow baseball game to us 1130 R in Atlanta as chopped foul corner has walked and singled and scored a run planning to 6:00 p.m. the Mets with one of May first and four in the fourth lead 5-3 the Braves scored one in the first and two in the third and the count one two and right after the game we'll have the big fireworks show and we'll carry it for you right here the superstition it'll be a no to strike threes ball good pitch [Applause] that's the first drag out for leech and v by Mets pitching this guy would look very very tough at least the first time around don't see too many submarine pitchers although a left-hander would have a good look at it breaking ball is fouled away I would say a bleach could pitch keep his pitches low like Dan Kansas City [Applause] might be a very good relief pitcher I'd say guy Ernie I thought was good was Frank Williams of the Giants they just send him back to Phoenix mm-hmm Leach has been fighting at he 31 years old but he's still not giving up and wants to get some pension time some years up here haan-soo on Terry Harper Harper is 1 for 2 on the night there's a face it that's the brave six to tell you how slow this game is this game is within eight minutes of being four hours old 7:40 to 11:40 marine delays have been about 2 hours and 10 minutes combined fillers at the end of 5 innings this ball game it--be two hours old on its own and if I'm wrong hey I flunked math about 12 times from school so it's understandable when I'm French so here's OB and he takes a strike tendinitis walk down he doubled in two runs that was against McDowell back in the third act to the second rainway now as you watch the pitches you can see that a left-hander would get a long look at every pitch leaps throws that's one well that's the kind of pitch this submarine right-handed wants to throw to a lefty where the ball dips down in a way which you could see it happening with his with his motion operate first with one out Backman makes a heck of a play Wally Backman threw it low and they got on the first base wally backman Jen [Applause] we took a base hit away from OB the fastball and getting to his feet in such a hurry made to play he threw a little low I believe let's watch had no problem over there at first Hernandez handling that's a nice play - way this game turned around on a play the Braves did not make when claw Dells feet went out from under him on that shot to right field by Hernandez Steve seals up again in the Braves bullpen and just encase Cerrone and Hubbard get on the bracelet pinch-hit for Debbie to weigh in here is Rick his first game back from the disabled is man he takes a stroke [Music] that's going to be a basic let's say a heartbroken score Straub right he will score Jerry Harper got a late start because it's heavy going out there but the ball died in the water no play so it's a 5-4 ballgame now on the base hit an RBI by Rick Cerrone that is RBI number 12 on the year show you how different this game is the first time up Cerrone hit the ball harder than this but he hit it right at Hernandez this time he finds a hole gets a base hit an RBI flash flag [Applause] for people who like old TV shows this is a game that where Lloyd Bridges would be a great outfielder well with two-way here's Glenn Hubbard and the tying run at first base Rick Cerone [Applause] they're is strike absolutely no one gets that Rick Oh Richard Kroger does get it oh okay well I know you like those kind of shows he was in a show called SIA and he was underwater for eight years Branko Smith even knows the character that Lloyd Bridges played but then again mark who asked you well no.1 count on Hubbard it was Mike Nelson thank you Mark tying run at first two outs and the breaking ball missed by hubby on to five nine and Oh for the Mets four seven one for the Braves struck him out to end the inning phrase get a run on two hits and leave one at the end of five the Mets five of the Braves for Jeff Devon probably in his last inning of pitching the Braves I think will pinch-hit for him in the bottom half of the inning only because the threat of rain it's an official ball game now in the Braves as long as it doesn't rain they got to tie this thing up Mets lead at 5-4 top of the 6th and while a Backman takes it high outside ball one brick mailer and Dwight Gooden with the starters that seems like a week ago we're on the top of the sixth there's another base in for Wally Backman [Applause] I think is the hardest that devan's been hit since he was recalled from Richmond and early May Backman gets his second single and the tenth hit for the Mets now the Mets power comes up Keitha Nanda's Gary Carter Darryl sterber the Mets have not scored very many runs this year they are in a tie for 9th and 10th with the Dodgers coming into this game they're not have any problem tonight Hernandez was really slumping that's what I heard he hasn't been slumping here he takes it down low he's been hitting line drives a double I Drive the Senate that Murphy cotton and a triple and Murphy didn't catch that ball but it was ruled that way Gary Carter on deck MERP in centerfield makes the catch Backman is tagging though he decides to come back and is a good thing Merve threw a bullet to Ramirez so there's one away in here is Gary Carter [Applause] now there's another base hit back when Wolfe score he had to go back and Murphy fires it back in the second base so the Mets am runners at first and third with one out and Ernie now I will say this is the hardest Devin's been hit since he was recalled in over two months the runner at second had to halt because he was afraid there might be a chance of a double play on a line drive and Backman trotted over the third Eddie Haas is gonna walk out the home plate and probably do the old flip-flop God Evans gonna be leading off Devin's gonna be up next thing so I think that's what they will do Steve shields will come in and the Mets have runners at first and third one out with Darryl Strawberry Jew and then George Foster so that's a tough situation for shields and Devon just didn't have it tonight [Applause] and as Steve shields comes in we'll drop out for a moment get back right after this well here's a double switch Glenn Hubbard made the last out last inning he's replaced by Paul zou velop at second base zou will hit ninth and pitching Steve shields and shields will bat eighth shields done a good job of the Braves he was knocked out of the starting rotation when Perez came off the DL but Steve is 1 & 2 a tra of 4.19 and he has a very tough assignment he's got while a Backman at third-base Gary Carter with his third hit is at first only one man out here's Darryl Strawberry Braves play their infield back looking for - they're down five four now but if you're gonna turn to on strawberry but do it in a hurry he gets down the line very quickly and he takes outside ball one George Foster is on day [Applause] there's a base hit to right field at 6:00 for Mets Carter goes to second heading for third and the throw comes in to second base over Mets again have runners on the corners that run is charged to Dedmon [Applause] strawberry singles to right field and that is Darryl's 14th RBI [Applause] and it's a 6-4 ballgame India's Foster and foster does not run as well so the Braves will play the middle of their infield back yeah I hope they get the ground ball there goes strawberry the curveball is missed and there's no throw so it's a stolen base for strawberry that takes care of the DoublePlay possibilities [Applause] and now they're gonna walk Foster you know we might set a record for most pitches thrown in a game there have been a lot of them intentional walk for foster first walk given up by shields [Applause] and the fifth by Braves pitcher the Mets have 12 hits and they've had five walks him at 17 baserunners got out of the sixth inning 20 pitch has been thrown Richard total that up he's gonna do it for you fins gonna take him awhile because he's gonna run out of fingers and toes very quickly Metz had the bases loaded they've got and Carter at third strawberry at second foster at 1st and green out at the plate and over on radio I had the temerity to kid Ernie Johnson about the length of the three innings that he broadcast right here's ray Knight Braves down six fort looking for the double play night Oprah 3 he does not run well so you get the ground ball you could turn to and the Braves are playing the rim feel that way that should be - there's one but for the mets in the six they get a run three hits no errors mets leaves you at the end of five and a half New York six Atlanta for paid attendance tonight 44,000 947 puts the Braves around eight hundred and twenty five thousand for the year Hernandez takes a ball high wanna know tanana's with a chance to make it 11 game-winning hits if the score stays the same that fall is tacked and right along the line it is out of here home run Keith Hernandez has just made it seven four with a line drive homer over the fence and run well there was no doubt about it [Applause] even in a batting slump too that's his fifth of the year well he may have been in a tremendous batting slump with the Braves have gotten him out of it he it's a rope and Hernandez now has a double a triple a home run and that line drive that Dale Murphy caught or maybe didn't catch no I didn't catch it replay showed that but the umpire said he did yes Carter with three hits has an RBI in the first and one in the four one Bond star now the way the Bray's are one in three this year against New York so Rome with a sign and Steve shields with a pitch curve strike out beautiful pitch Carter didn't care too much for it but he's out of there for shields his first bike Darryl Strawberry robbery has a couple of hits and three official trips while head on the bounce Claudell robbery with a single his third hit [Applause] and at number 15 for Davey Johnson's Mets who came in batting 230 yeah and we're tied for 9th or 10th in the league in runs scored Dykstra the leadoff hitter has two hits Wally Backman has three hits Hernandez has three hits and should have four Carter has three hits strawberry has three hits I'd say that's pretty effective one through five this is foster looking for his first it he's walked three times that could be to one a second to it for three on foster we go to the bottom of the eighth down by three well the Braves really a basin away from making this kind of interesting base it would make it let's say seven to six and also bring up Dale Murphy [Applause] and it's starting to rain nothing surprising about that tonight ramires where the bases-loaded nolasco knowing he's pitching to his last man in this inning if he gets him out he can go sit down if he doesn't Sisk is gonna face Murphy first pitch wrong one ah Bruce Sutter starts throwing Ford land on their pen [Applause] Ramirez had an RBI and a groundout way back in the first inning about five six hours ago since then he's old for three so for the night he's old for four and a pitch come on two balls and no strikes bases-loaded not winding two balls and no strikes like God he did two and one lemare's taking all away the umbrellas are up there's a drizzle and the two one outside ball three [Applause] anyhow might say give the take sign make him throw two strikes here down by three we'll see in a moment three balls in one stride and the pitch [Applause] a walk with a bases-loaded that makes it 75 with Murphy coming up and Johnson coming out well Jesse Orosco had walked himself right out of this bargain [Applause] Cesc is making his way in Roscoe leaving since two and five er a 6.91 there's two saves he's had an up and down year there was a movie years ago I think it was a last train from Boot Hill and they just announced here that the last Marta bus is leaving in about ten minutes but if you want you better be on it was greeted beautifully because his fans came here to see the fireworks after the game which of course we know may never end and the Braves a base it away from tying it up and duct Sisk who really has trouble with this control comes in with a bases loaded in two out in the eighth and a whacky game seven five minutes diagrams at second that is flat-out Washington Corona is at third and Ramirez at first Murphy the batter Murphy is hitless tonight in three official tries he walked the first time up Sisk is a sinker ball pitcher nothing fancy about him breaking ball in a sinker and the first pitch a little bit high one and on we don't see him up there often [Applause] corners on deck [Applause] two outs and I wanna score [Applause] that is a three-run double alright here's the pitch right over the middle and Murphy drives it to the wool and lifts in a field no one has a chance to catch it thanks Bert cuts it off but Dykstra threw the ball way too high to the cutoff man he threw a fly ball to the cutoff man and Ramirez scored easily and the brains about a problem coming back the Sphero scored four times here in the bottom of the 8th and have taken an 87 lead order the batter they're standing at atlanta-fulton County Stadium for Murphy and the fifth following Murphy three RBIs raises total to 58 and it's only game 76 they all won just outside Horner with a base hit back in the third we got the single gust before the first rain delay 87 Atlanta there's a lot one lower the sinker two and one sooner we'll pitch the ninth inning he's ready he's been throwing this in it now a 2-1 well [Applause] I hit that ball on a line a nice pitch by the Mets standing here for Dale Murphy whose double laid at 8/7 as we go to the ninth [Applause] Suter against night as we open tonight the first pitch to swinging strike [Applause] [Applause] night is all for for [Music] [Applause] hi time shooter shooting 416 safe he said 20 save opportunities and converted 15 of them here's a 1-1 get hard but foul [Applause] 8:07 atlanta four runs in the bottom of the 8th fifteen it for New York ten for the Braves [Applause] Howard Johnson on as a pinch-hitter hitting 194 two homers 11 RBIs they got him from the Tigers for walked arrow and the pitch strike calm Heep is on deck [Applause] here's the l1 down low one ball instead and on one pretty wild hit left fail going to be in for a base hit Harper's going to make sure they're playing deep try to keep away from an extra-base hit the extra-base hit puts the tying run at second so the outfielders are really deep and Johnson drops a single in front of Harper oh yeah and here's Danny Heep on deck is Len Dykstra but don't forget they still have a pretty good pinch-hitter on the bench in rusty Staub another left-hand pinch hitter on the best pinch hitters in baseball [Applause] Danny Heep they got him from the Houston Astros blind a left-center field base hit Harper over quickly they're going to have the tying run at third and just like that New York Zak in it Danny Heep then Johnson around the third and the Braves are in trouble that's a tying run a third Dykstra the batter [Applause] he's a lefty Holloway [Applause] he hasn't seen that much of Souter here's the other base set just real off by Danny Heep corner only one play safe at first the New York Mets have sided corner diving for the ball tried to get it back to sooner but he couldn't in time it was a slow roller it is eight eight they've got a potential what are at second you know Dykstra did not bunt but he did just about that he went down to get the pitch and made sure that he hit the ball dribbled it on the ground I know that sounds kind of impossible but that's really what Dijkstra did thanks to it just made sure he made contact and swung down on the ball to get a ground ball to get to run it and he did and now this first and second and he was Wally Backman two on and one out and the pitch is a strike on one Suter has been touched for three straight hits after the strikeout - were well hit one was an infield hit toward second one is all I guess it was not a double play ball they got the runner going in a second that'll be a fielder's choice for six by the way here is a very tough managerial decision for Eddie Haas Bruce Souter has given up a couple it's the basic to Dijkstra's his old ground ball you have a tremendous hitter up there in Keitha Nanda's and you can be second-guessed for not bringing in the left-handed Terry Forester out of the bullpen they're not bringing in Forester it is Souter with two outs trying to get Hernandez yes you'd think you see the lefty but maybe Souter can do it one on flyball left this should do it Harper under [Applause] [Music] so sooner gets the lefty Hernandez but allows a run we go to the bottom of the night it's 8 8 we go to the top of the 13th and then you have another good lefty hit her up and Keith Hernandez and after Gary Carter Darryl Strawberry so Terry forced his third inning he normally does not pitch any longer than this and the count 2 and Oh in fact to be truthful about it he usually fishes two innings or less [Music] he is leading off due to lead off in the bottom of the throat if the Braves pinched it form they have any one player left that's ball running usually trying to save that player just in case there's a strike two and one the Mets still have a pretty good bench left they're keeping their players there is a strike for example the guy's a platoon with Backman Calvin Chapman the right-hand hitter has not been used tonight but they're not using a mere two and two on Backman there is one away [Applause] [Music] the Mets have eight runs on 18 hits the Braves have eight runs on 12 it's their May 10 pitchers use [Music] and we're in the top of the 12th [Music] Hernandez has had a double a triple and a home run and he had a drive that jail Murphy left his feet for and made a great attempt he caught the ball than the ground knocked the ball out of his glove but the umpire out there called it and out didn't see the ball come out Hernandez stopped rounding first raised threw the ball back and tagged him out in the base pass the one one there's a base hit and he hits for the cycle so that takes care of that I was gonna say that if they just called him out for being tagged out he would have had the base it now he is it for the cycle double triple home run and single and much more important than that he is the potential winning run potentials go ahead around anyway [Music] and Gary Carter has three is the first five players in the order Dykstra Backman Hernandez Carter and strawberry have I think 16 hits between the would have to check that someone gray is hoping for two and Carla takes it high ball one part is three hits are all singles that is Tom Gorman in the Mets bullpen [Music] and that could be - as one of them will fill good scoop by her Darryl Perry met a fine scoop and a 6-4-3 double play no runs on a hit we'll go out to that double play close develop on the way has a very strong Norman second but he cruises one Street down and Perry made a nice scoop we go to the bottom of the 12th tied at 8 [Music] yeah like for himself [Music] CIRA CNN's Craig Sager down there with the red shorts as his lovely wife Lisa [Music] watching themselves on the maker Explorer it'll be Terry Foster then pause do Bella and Fidel Washington [Music] you know what is a July 4th we're not gonna forget we got to the bottom of the 12th tie today Hernandez by the way for those right statistical nonsense there's the fourth met to suicide dairy for mr. we'll dig in and wally backman will throw him out one away [Applause] one away and here's Paul's develop Isabella end of the game in the sixth inning The Hobbit started at second base they have to have a fireworks you look at all these fans who have waited through all these rain delays in this long game I don't think that's the way they had it drawn up all right now here's the pitch to Zhu Bella [Music] there's 140 here in Atlanta and oh and you on the zoo I want to say the people here getting batty I just was given a lion score for the game New York and Atlanta well Backman makes another good way he's made a lot of good plays tonight too way players caught out you look at wally backman as you know Claudell has the power to hit it out and I think he would be forgiven by everybody if he took three gigantic swings and anything close to way bottom of the twelfth was one swing you know what happens in these games the longer you go that more tire the guys get no one ever scores and we know last year we played an 18-inning job against the Dodgers out in LA this year an 18-inning game against the Giants here [Applause] [Music] why don't you apparently Terry Forster is going to work another inning there is no one warming up in the braised Vulcan [Music] and the reason you say well he hit for himself but he hit for himself because the Braves have only one player left on the bench paw rugged you really have to save that one player just in case your catcher gets hurt or just in case you down by a run in the bottom half of an inning see dub stays alive [Music] Danny Heep makes the catch near the foul on that ends eating sister retires him one two three nothing across from the Braves all-time daddy we go to the top of the 13th and here's early thank you John Darryl Strawberry Lisa da Forrester with the first pitch to him almost did it fastball inside strawberry with three hits including an RBI single in the sixth one ballantine [Applause] this is a 13 fastball inside corner here's the one - bouncing up Sisk is on deck and Davey Johnson has a decision to make Gorman is throwing in their bullpen strawberry gets on they might lift says if he doesn't get on they might let the right-hander hit this kid been up once to 203 [Applause] forretress it's a whale of a ballgame [Applause] Terry Forster is a to pitch pitcher fastball and a very hard slider and you just saw the breaking ball that got strawberry and Davey Johnson does go to his bench and that's the young right-hand hitting second baseman I talked about before Chapman coming on both Seska and Forester in their longest stints of the year that's longest innings pitched through that stint in their nice stint I like get a little goofy after a while here folks stay with us we got a fireworks display after and here's Chapel one down and a pitch strike gong Ray Knight is on day and Hill one just inside so we'll see Tom Gorman in the bottom half of this inning one one low doing one I remember one long session that Terry forced ahead we were in San Diego I think last year is against goose Gossage two old grizzly veterans and they went about five or six innings of peace that should be caught Ramirez behind third under that's doing and what was really fun is that some people might not know that Terry Forester and goose Gossage both came up in the White Sox organization and they were roommates buddies they they are still best friends but they roomed together fits together work together last year opposed each other inning after inning his foresters fourth inning he started in a tent and there's a base hit to left by Ray Knight Oberkfell of course guarding the line they allow the single inside between third and short the Mets have just reached the 20 hit mark here's Howard Johnson with two outs and one on Johnson started that rally in the ninth against Souter which there were three hits and the tying run scored we've added lefty then he's batting right-handed down and he takes outside one oh no night is not a threat to run Nancy Lopez's husband does not have great speed he has taken over a third however night is played some good ball of Lee he's been down here in Albany Georgia he's had some great days at this ballpark especially when he was with Cincinnati fallaway one ball one strike the conclusion of the game we're going to have a wrap-up with highlights and then go down the scoreboard for you and give you all the particulars on all other games and then the fireworks display and the one one right on through the fastball 1 & 2 two outs one ball two strikes night off first being held by Perry force are not too concerned with him here's a pitch fallaway had a good cut well this guy swings a bet he has not had a good year they expected a lot more from him they got him from Detroit while Terrell was involved in that trade and he's at nine wins right now for the Tigers Forester with a 1/2 down low 2 & 2 if you didn't hear I'm sure that quite sure the feet and stiff probably passed it along Steve Howe is going to be given his unconditional release by the Dodgers I don't think there'll be any animosity toward the Dodgers they gave the youngster every opportunity to to hit foul back against the screen so I believe they'll place him on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release but you get the feeling that maybe not this year but who knows that Steve he'll be back pitching in the major leagues one day a lot of very depressed young man according to his teammates and they thought that it might be due to the fact that he expected too much of himself after sitting out a year to 1 2 Forester pitching Drive left-center field Harper back will a ballpark hold it it won't it's a home run it's a home run for Howard Johnson here in the 13th inning Johnson is homered off Forrester to make it 10 a [Applause] when that bench will be jubilant of course as Johnson has come on late not only got the two run homer but sparked that ninth-inning for him [Music] well he found off a lot of pitches and finally got a fastball the outside part that he can handle and he pulled it over the fence Terry Harper gave it a good try but the ball was clearly over and our Johnson gets the big hit this is Danny Heep one ball one strike Johnson hit his third home run of the year and I believed to have come against it Len yes the other one was in New York and a lot one low toward varying that's it but the Mets pick up two we go to the bottom half of inning number 13 Kenda eight New York I'm skip carry one of the Braves announcers for the Sporting News and I've got an offer for you you won't want to miss capture the excitement of baseball as only the Sporting News can deliver it baseball comes to life as never before toll-free 1-800 to five seven one two three four you'll get 30 issues for three easy payments of only 496 each call now the crescent moon when we started to cook actually against the wall now they're down by two the pitchers Tom Gorman he goes hi - Raphael Ramirez that's a strike and the one one along the line but is hooking foul right at the distance but thou Murphy's on deck Gorman is trying to save it for says he is three and three er a 4.70 has no saves he had the chance tonight and the one to face that left center field that'll bring on Murphy there's nobody out Murphy's walk struck out grounded out a couple of times but then double with the base is older than the age for free rounded out in the 10th [Applause] [Music] a runner at first and nobody out Perris on day fernanda's holding Ramirez the stretch in the pitch just outside there have been 24 hits in a 34 hits in this ballgame 34 hits 21 by New York and 13 by the brave and the 1o hit found one ball one strike Jeanne Garber loosening up for Atlanta Rick camp and throwing earlier [Applause] one ball one side mr. 1 & 2 look like I let up going high and away and he had that ball too [Applause] [Music] Ramirez not going anywhere at first his run means nothing and the one-to-one on this whatever it was he got Murphy might have been a Scrooge in some storm Boorman with a strikeout [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now Gerald Perry raised down a two outs curveball in there such betrayal on for the third innings gave up no runs he did give up that big hit by Murphy to put the Braves out in front but then his teammates came back and trying to get him a win and their two outs away from it Sisk only gave up three hits one ball two strikes Harper the on-deck hitter Perry is out of there on time Paul strike crayon Jarrell berry now it's up to Terry Harper Harper doubled his last time up he's had three hits tonight scored a coupla runs [Music] on the Braves on rally it's going to be a tough lot for Terry for three pitched four innings starting in the 10th and gave up two runs all I'm doing this guy's come up with a screw gene all seems to be breaking away from Murphy and from Harper any auto get five I gotta play each team has been out in front and then come back with the latest burst by New York at the top of the 13th could cost the Braves and make it 34 and 42 eight games under 511 and a half behind San Diego and believe it or not very Harper just hit the foul screen it hit the middle it couldn't have hit it as amazing Ernie that's amazing he was saying of it if it stays fair the ball was curving at the middle of that screen is that amazing and the Braves have tied it up it might be the wackiest game of all time when we see it again when you see see it again here's the pitch let's first of all look at the pitch it was right over the middle Terry went down and got it now watch it hit the screen [Applause] it's amazing you couldn't do that if you stood in front of the screen jostling baseball's I hit the middle of the screen the brazen chided at 10:00 Oberkfell hits it foul past first right into the razor go Ramirez is single set it up here in the bottom of the 13th carry Harper with his fourth hit of the night here's a lot one popped him up Carter has got it but not before Atlanta has tied it on a dramatic home run by Terry Harper Braves fans and still a lot of them still here stand and applaud the left fielder we go to the 14th inning it is 10 to 10 hi I'm Dale Murphy I want to tell you about an exciting way for you to identify with your Atlanta Braves it's the children reports you'll see the picture of a missing child and you'll get a number you can call anonymously to report the whereabouts of a child you suspect may have been kidnapped very often television is a child's constant companion make it his best friend as well watch CNN's missing children's reports and call you can make a difference Jeanne Garber becomes the one-two-three four-five-six picture six pictures for the braise and six for New York thanks rubble eat it off we go to the 14th through John and absolutely amazing wacky Jeanne Garber comes on got a look at my scorecard Dykstra ran up the bunt and then fell down in a faint and is laughing about it extra three four seventy it coming to the game had been up only thirty three times been up seven times tonight we're the top of the fourteenth the ball game is tied at ten there have been 20 runs 35 hits two errors 12 pitchers and a partridge in a pear tree I think that's ball two score board still has ball one that should be ball two two and oh let's see Dykstra trying to get on and anyway Canon and it is three and own it'll be Dykstra Backman and Hernandez here in the top of the 14th the ballgame is tied at 10 this has had more ups and downs enough then one of those soap operas on television there is a strike three in one [Applause] also it's eight minutes after 2:00 Eastern Time this ball game was due to begin at 7:40 there have been a couple of rain delays Garber slipped out there so he'll do the three one again and thanks to her against the walk and he can run - he's got good speed [Music] a two-run home run by Howard Johnson the top of the 13th gave the Mets a 10-8 lead a base hit by Ramirez but then Gorman struck out Murphy and Perry and had two strikes on Terry Harper and he hit the screen in left field for a two-run home run to tie here's back when we'll see how the now the Mets play it back Ben looking down at his third-base coach bud Harrelson now he can really handle a bat and Oberkfell is closing in and Backman can really spot the ball by let's see he fakes the bunt and takes ball one the Braves would like Oberkfell to be able to feel the bunt to nab Dykstra at second base but of ICH plays there they're gonna take that bunt sign off Backman can really handle the bat and Backman bunts it foul one and one now Harrelson looks in the dugout to get the sign from Davey Johnson and Backman looks down at Harrelson the Braves have one non-starter left Rick camp and the Mets have one non-starter left and that's West Gardner both teams have used six pitchers and the thing is these two teams play every day until the all-star break there's the button a good one that rolls dead and benedict so many players to develop so Dykstra at second base and now they're gonna call I think they're gonna call back went out and the ball dead the ball might have hit the bat twice they ordered Dykstra back it's a foul boss what it is I think that hit twice and the guy who made the call was the third base umpire Lonnie Harris Ernie it might have hit his foot too it might hit his foot in the batter's box that automatically makes it foul look again he hit it twice you're right get out twice in the batter's box that's just what I figure that's the ball just dropped dead twice so now Backman will not be bunting with a count of one and two I don't think Dykstra scrambles back over it fellows playing way in and this is a guy who that's the kind of way back with hits he kind of slashes past the third baseman will fake a bunt like other little lefty hitters you see where ob is right now it'll be a 1 2 he bunts it again Garber has to go to first so the sacrifice works sacrifice goes 1 3 Dykstra at 2nd base and so they had Backman finally bunt on the third strike and he bunted successful he's good butter now you have to walk Hernandez anyhow comes out but he may talk it over with Gino but you really have to walk Hernandez here because the guy up after Hernandez that does exactly have a broken arm Gary Carter but you really have to go to the right-hand hitter and hope to get the DoublePlay I would think but I don't know if see what Eddy and Gino design sometimes when you go out there the pitcher has a lot of confidence in getting one particular hitter don't make a difference be it's lefty righty on top of his head the manager will say how do you feel about this guy you have any success you want to pitch to him and many times the pitcher can say talk the manager into it we'll see what happens here but you'd think he'd get walked and I think that's what they'd go well let me tell you this Hernandez's lifetime hitting 348 against Garber and Gary Carter lifetime 194 I know what I would do and this is what I would so there's an intentional walk the second walk of the inning from Gino let's see now or [Music] since the Mets the Mets of that eight walks tonight and 21 hits they've had 29 baserunners their basic to an inning now here's Gary Carter with one out Dykstra at second Hernandez at first Braves deployed in DoublePlay position we're in the top of the fourteenth tied at ten and absolutely the wackiest game of the year Carter's had a big night he's had three hits and a walk last time up he hit into the deep eight that's the time when Perry made that nice scoop at first base on a low throw [Music] overt film makes a heck of a play there's one no crow orbit spell has saved the game at this point corner hit it like a bullet and Hobie made a backhanded grab on a very bad hop this ball is really shellac as they say and Oberkfell on a nice play got the force at second base first and third for strawberry a Lenny Dykstra's at third base now and cart is at first this infield shoot up with all the rain and then the sand to fill in the wet spots that ball took some hopper and OB stayed with it made a nice play here strawberry two outs in the game on the line and a strike strawberry tonight has three hits and two walks you know we didn't mentioned about Hernandez for people just tuned in why they were just tuned in it 2:15 in the morning but Hernandez it it to the cycle before that intentional walk and Arnie I thought the mess we're having hitting problems you wouldn't know it it's nice and tight the only one Safety's wanted one looking ahead in the bottom of the fourteenth the Braves will have Benedict Garber and Zhu Bella so it behooves Gino to retire strawberry first and third two outs nice save by Benedict well that was close with a curveball and not only almost got by almost hit strawberry Benedict had a good save I want to say this he knows on deck for the Mets it's time Gorman the Braves lost a game this year that 18-inning game to the Giants when they didn't walk Bob Brenly that was a load of the bases so see how they pitch against strawberry fouled off 2 2 you got to give Geno a chance to get him 1 pitch will do it but you don't want to give him a good pitch because the Mets have the pitcher on deck now they could bring up a pinch hitter with the bases loaded but they can bring up rusty stops they could and that's a consideration the Mets have no one warming up when Brenly got that game-winning base hit in the 18th the Giants had no one on their benches I would call doctor I know they had no one on their bench first and third two outs top of the 14th struck him out the thing he knows chain struck him out no runs no hits no errors two left at the end of 13 and a half the Braves 10 and the nest n there's a changing world out there and so much others we want to see in so we night [Music] because we care we'll always be [Music] your window [Music] because you have the right [Music] new things my witness be incredible experience [Music] really if you just ask for a light beer you never know what [Music] so if you want the less trillion light beer with the first name in taste don't just ask for a light beer in your life ask them to bring out their that Bud Light cuz every day now it's just a light [Music] okay we go to the bottom half of the 14th inning you see the line score I don't think exactly I can recap this game but the Braves had a big four-run eighth to take an 87 lead Bruce Souter could not hold it the Mets got three it's in the ninth to tie it took a two run lead in the 13th on Howard Johnson's home run and Terry Harper tied it with a home run in the bottom of the 13th and here we are on the bottom of the 14th Bruce Benedict takes pitch down low from Tom Gorman Bruce been up once and bounced into a DP yes count one and one 45,000 people paid tonight this place with Jam there is something less than 45 right now [Applause] Gary Carter makes the call and the catch went away now here's Jeanne Garver batting for the first time I would say a crowd maybe ten thousand so Ernie what would you say this crowd is now ten at ten it's probably ten thousand okay scattered bet that's Cork just done a veal but Dijkstra will make the catch do it the others ate good for you if any of them come back don't leave a bologna sandwich is nothing for you to a and here's Paul's of Bella who came in the game in the sixth inning or roughly about a week ago it's 221 here in the east there's a strike the zoo one-on-one you know as a phrase when you do ball games of all kinds to try to bring your audience up to date you always say for those who tuned in late those late tuners in that kind of thing if you just tuned in it's late there's a great grab by Ray Knight to stop a base it out the batter's develop now the Braves were retired one two three here on the bottom of the 14th and we'll watch that pretty catch by Ray Knight as we get on out at the end of 14 the Mets 10 and the Braves 10th [Music] Yankee Willie Randolph he does it all pro photographer Fred Conrad he catches it all with his cat nae one program so advanced to capture Willie sheer great that second babe so much campaign to follow Willie in Sun or shade it's a snap to use the Canon 81 program so advanced it's simple canon the official camera of the Atlanta Braves hi I'm Dale Murphy I want to tell you about an exciting way for you to identify with your Atlanta Braves Ernie Gorman the pitcher will lead it off and Garber's first pitch is it foul up by 3rd night will follow day order yeah I feel straightaway that fall in the left-center somebody should catch it Harper he's got Gorman flies to left he came in betting zero old for three now ray Knight get a base at last time up then he scored in front of Howard Johnson's homer to put the Mets out in front by two that happened in the 13th then Harper's home run in the bottom of the 13th made it 1010 it came with two outs and two strikes they all one blown away Garber working his second inning one by lunchtime well-hit past Ramirez should be a bassist night made a big turn and gets back get that ball hard Ramirez lunging to his left couldn't come up with it I talk about great fans you just came in the booth the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks Mike fratello the assistant coach Brennan sir and their buddy John winning they're gonna stick to the bitter end here's Johnson he didn't start the ballgame Johnson is two hits and three tries a homer in a single both in important spots curveball in there Hiep is on deck [Music] a runner at first one dime night is chased back got back again also in be Toronto last night and the pitch a foul some of the fireworks are going on some just couldn't wait I guess one ball one strike thirty-six hits in the ballgame 22 by New York each team guilty of an error we're in the top of the fifteenth let up Anna Beauty wanted to [Music] they get one and three scoreboard was wrong so was i he got him on the change-up now Danny Heep to out the runner first Hiep is one for three night at first with a pretty big lead but he doesn't run that often and the pitch bounced toward seconds Abella should handle it the little flip to Ramirez and we've sailed through the top of the 15th we go to the bottom half Henderson I'm skip carry one of the Braves announcers for the Sporting News and I've got an offer for you you won't want to miss capture the make up your own life about what you see and hear [Music] bottom half of the 15th in it we were clean-shaven when the game started which was some time ago yes it was Washington lefty against Lefty curveball just outside Washington with three hits tonight building a triple back in the first inning now the Braves fans get with a little staccato clapping what all be right Ramirez is on deck then [Music] here's a 3-1 on the way flyball short left peep one day one down for Ramirez laughy with two hits last two times up is it safely being able to game to be tied because if he's not aboard Harper Murphy song something like that he knocked in three runs back in the eighth that was his only hit of the night he's walked one he doubled in three that put Atlanta on top by a run he had no luck against that scroogie that's what he's throwing last time up he will fan one and on and the one on strike calls with Terry Tator one ball one strike he's had trouble with Gorman as you read that stat he doesn't want that particular pitch from Gary Carter he wants that one and it was asked routine it's a pop-up Backman fights it and catches it foul for odd number through folks we've gone through 15 nice short hop pickup by zoo Bella went away [Applause] we're in the top of the 16th and the ball game is tied at 10 this is a good play by the better going to his left kind of a long hop the kind that are most difficult it wouldn't get through and that's one down there's ooh the Braves Stanford graduate and a resident stretch artist time was call that pitch will not count there have been 20 runs 36 hits 2 hours and 12 pitchers about time to pass out patches you know I was there on July 4th and sandwiches do oh and back I was there on July 4th and 5th we had some friends come down from Manchester Connecticut Harold and Marie turkey day they said I'll will stay want to see a ball game Gino makes this play do it to house now Keith Hernandez who has already hit for the cycle tonight single double triple and home run and a walk our guests are staying I think Louis of the sleep dashiki abortion I'm hanging in there tough 22 3 this game was to have begun it 20 minutes to 8 then there was rain and they played and it was rain and they have played I'd say a guy's gonna sleep well tonight the guys on the on-deck circle Gary Carter who has caught the whole ball game I admire these people we've still got a lot of people here watching this ball game yep and it's not Friday night this is Thursday and a lot of them probably got to work tomorrow it might not be too good at it but they're good out there tomorrow still okay and hats off to the crew - we're approaching a double-header it's 2-2 Gino has been terrific since coming in as well I just want it by the way take back what I said about Wes Gardner the Mets have only starting pitches left Gardner isn't and sent back to Tidewater Braves have one non-starter left rec camp that should end the inning zoo Bella tosses him out nothing across for the Mets we go to the bottom of the 16th and the score tied at 10 [Music] give me your tired your poor your huddled masses yearning to breathe free the wretched refuse of think we're punching you're right we go to the bottom of the 16th game is tied at 10 from the world's longest game not by anything but Gerald Perry leads up against Tom Gorman Perry then the hero of the hour Jerry Harper can overcome there are so many amusing stories that will be told after tonight's game no matter what happens no matter when it ends even if it ends on this pitch [Music] Oh em - on Jerell for example one of the writers who covers the Braves regularly for the journal-constitution Chris Mortensen has his daughter Shannon visiting in California she's about 14 of us [Applause] and I don't think she's ever expected to see this much baseball in her life the coach of the Hawks Mike Rosella came up and said you can't believe us I have my errands here they down from they're still here I was just thinking about they haven't had a wave for a while and even though there's not too many they're waving these fans are [Applause] Ripple's around this lady 245 I went through some way we could get my rain check not a game [Applause] Jero Perry leading up the 16,000 Oh to count Danny Heep in left-field makes the catch one away [Music] in the bottom of the 13 Terry Harper came up with Ramirez on first base Gorman is drunk out Murphy in Perry and Harper had a one-two count and he hit the left-field screen for a two-run home run his eighth of the year Terry Harper has four hits tonight and he takes a strike it's a 10/10 ballgame in the bottom of the 16th [Applause] now the count one in one on Jerry [Applause] wanted to earning one thing about cherry Harbor getting a chance to play regularly for the first time we're a few games away from the ham Pierrepoint he has pretty good figures if he winds up with 15 homers and 77 RBI's it's not bad yes a homeless 35 rbis now that one will be caught by the shortstop Howard Johnson to a [Applause] [Applause] [Music] pretty good frisbee thrower Keith Hernandez [Applause] the frisbee throw comes after the fireworks display later tonight [Music] Joey here is OB there's a face [Applause] winning run at first base two outs for Bruce Benedict over 12 tonight as walk double a single round intentionally walked popped up in Sigmund so he has three is for instance who walks [Music] now the Braves get their bullpen started biggest the on-deck hitter is Jean Garber brick camp gets up the brook you know the first inning Rick Mahler had all kinds of trouble and Rick camp got up to throw them a long time ago to know on Benedick the Braves have gone bronze Eck Atlanta has won more non-pitcher left and that's Paul Runge and if Benedick should get on let's say their first and second and two out the Braves would probably take a shot to win it strike is called 2 & 1 [Music] and the count goes to 3 and 1 on Benedict Oberkfell has just fair speed at first base [Music] and the Braves have the winning run at second base [Music] now the Braves will send up their last non pitcher Paul Runge and one shot to win the game [Applause] runge pinch hits for Garber if there is a 17th brick camp would pitch for the Braves Runge has only been up sixteen times he has two hits and if he gets a base hit here to win the game he'll never forget it as long as he lives and neither will I [Applause] [Music] runners at first and second two outs breaking ball strike from Gorman's in Runge Mets have 22 it's the Braves of 15s and the count evens one and one [Music] [Applause] good cut fouled away 1 & 2 the only pitches the Mets have left are starting pitches they go in a five-man rotation where the Braves have been using a four-man rotation so looks like it's up to Tom Gorman the ones you to answer Braves have Ken Oberkfell at second base Bruce Benedict said first Benedict does not matter at all they have OB scores the game's over physique left he goes back back on the track he makes the 17 Runge gave it a ride but heat caught up with it on the track about three feet shy of the wall no runs out of hit the Braves lead to 16 innings of play we're all tied at six [Music] CNN Business News brings you a week's worth of financial news and information that you can put to use every day every weeknight at 7:00 and superstation WTBS Paul Runge stays in the game and he will play third base Rick Kamp is the new Braves pitcher their seventh and camp will hit six Runge hit four Garber that was in the seventh spot we go to the top half of the 17th inning the ball game is tied at 10 Gary Carter will leadoff the 17th for the Mets and I'm gonna pass the baton to Ernie Thank You Jon Gary Carter against camp Garber pitched very well he went three shutout innings and the curveball is a strike from Ken here's the l1 high into the air file let's see if Runge can catch up to it he's gonna be near that railing he's gonna be just out of reach Ramires was there - it was close Harper in from left oh and uh [Music] camp with a record of two and three er a 3.09 no Sam Terry Tator wants to look at that baseball [Music] partner with three hits tonight and two RBIs and here's a note to to him just off the corner one and two the infield now Runge Ramirez Sibella Perry and a pitch why not hit hard center field hit Gary Carter starts the 17th with a single ascent of the Mets and their dugout I guess that's to promote a rally turning their caps inside out [Music] now strawberry it works so far [Music] and drive you little loony especially when it looks like you got the game one and then tied no one o is low Harmon Zonday thank heavens the Cubs are playing at Wrigley Field which means afternoon games will soon be getting warm-ups for their game against the Giants two balls no strikes fouled away good one back in 1964 versus the Cubs the Mets got 23 hits in a ball game they have tied it here tonight a team record tied 23 to undo and the delivery is low 3 & 2 Kriner at first base he's looking to see whether he they want him to go or not he's not going to pitches right Chris robbery couldn't believe it he's arguing a Terry Tator become Davey doctor we've got through robbery Zephyrs a little short by now giving a longevity and Johnson couldn't be out there arguing about balls and strikes or he'll be gone he's gone [Applause] and dried strawberries hoses batting helmet the bat [Applause] so two ejections if we read it right I know strawberry and it looked like Johnson tuned here at five minutes till three in Atlanta my here's the fish the strawberry [Music] we're across to the plate not where it's caught and that's too close to argue really strawberry is struck out for the third straight time don't forget Therese ADA has been behind the plate all night long he has no dugout to go to no restroom to use no drinks of water and he's yelling at the Mets dugout again anyway there is 101 away with Carter in first Gary Tina one Johnson alley there's rusty Staub to the left and now Johnson will go up the runway anyway sometimes they put a little stool up there and you can still give instructions just long to get out of sight this is Gorman and he's gonna bunt and takes it low Runge right on top of it so in theory Gorman flied out last time back in the 15th mr. bun we're in the 17th pound well that little confrontation shook it up a little bit then sailing along without too much happening since back in the 13th now the one one he is bunting and fouled at one and two and that got Benedict in the 13th they had a two run homer out of Howard Johnson would look like it put it away for New York but with two outs and a runner at first Terry Harper at the foul screen in left to tie it one and two will he try it again if he fouls it and he did that is a strike [Applause] you know one thing Bruce Benedict just got hit twice on foul tips and it's Bruce Benedict against the world the Braves have no other players left let's not even think about that but anyway Brennan it got struck twice or their two outside well I'll tell you what they could do tell you what we could do if Benedict got hurt you've got a choice of Runge going behind the plate or bring in Dale Murphy from center field Runge Runge has been working out as a kick-out by the way then you might have a different looking third baseman I don't know who would play well I'd say what have you put down Murphy violent play and he got hurt knows I think it would be Paul Runge and then maybe Murphy or somebody moving to third yeah oh they got Jerry Harper could play third yeah that's right Harper has played some third rain i'ts the batter he has hit safely his last two times a little bit high a runner at first and two down you can understand why Terry Tator would be a little testy he's gonna up there a long time behind the plate the hardest job an umpire head that's the hardest position one ball one strike grounded to our deep short tough play Raffi got him a second base on a nice leg throw a little owns a village handle it that's a six four we go to the bottom half of inning number 17 it's 10 to 10 [Music] got a whistle on you boy Yoda will help you load up for let blitz bench seat am/fm stereo combo by any of these 1985 Toyota trucks and you can load up with over Christensen is now playing right field that's John Christensen taking over for Darryl Strawberry who was ejected for disputing a call strike we're going to the bottom half of inning number 17 Behrman with a couple of more tosses wants to get loose here comes a fella Thomas Gorman has fits very well he came on in the thirteenth inning we're now playing in the 17th he allowed two runs on that two-run home run by Harper but since then the Braves haven't done anything against him lavalla leads it off he's looking for his first hit he's old for five he didn't start the game and a pitch to him a little bit high wanna know Washington on deck then Rafael Ramirez and wanna be right Carla Terry Tator [Music] Washington goes back to the dugout [Music] the Braves now have their hats on inside out down in their dugout it's gotten everybody no.11 popped him up not behind second his Backman and he's got it maybe we can get a shot of the Braves - there they are [Applause] there's bedrock anything to help you slow down [Music] Washington has had three it's tonight this is ninth time to the play and a pitch popped him up right up the elevators done night the ball was foul first to have gone quietly Washington fowling to Ray Knight now Rafael Ramirez ramier says two RBIs tonight grounded out in the first two score run he walked with the bases loaded in the eighth he's had two hits Murphy on deck in the pitch d right called Terry Taylor still sounding off yeah I feel straightaway night hanging around third-base bag and the pitch a little bit high don't forget immediately following this game we're gonna have the fireworks display and we'll give you a rundown on all the other scores all the particulars one one there's that screwball one and two breaks away from right-handed batters if you've got one that goes away and down you can imagine how hard that is to hit one ball two strikes are going to take a different angle in it there's a they set the lamp well they're a chicken alive he got Murphy up and he almost got the second base the ball gets away but not for a [Applause] Murphy we've had no luck against women he's back out and found out [Applause] Terry what baymax do I premiere saw first and Murphy waiting and the pitch to him Fung on hit high into the air right centerfield but it should be caught Christensen one-handed for odd number three we're still moving along we go to the eighth inning make it 18 and attend the den I'm Jerry one of the Braves announcers for the Sporting News and I've got an offer for you you won't want to miss capture the excitement of 1-800-789-7895 we're going to the 18th Howard Johnson leads it off I don't know I can't answer that sign here's John Oh me Howard Johnson were laid off he hit the two run home run the 13th that gave the Mets a 10-8 lead and with two outs Terry Hartford tied it with a two-run home run this game began with an hour and a half rain delay that was at 7:40 when the evening that was on Thursday this is Friday it is 3:10 in Atlanta and the count is 2 and O on Johnson Howard Johnson Danny Heep and Lenny Dykstra all left-hand hitters now there's a base hit by Howard Johnson Johnson came in for his starting shortstop Santana and he has had himself three hits in the ballgame well the Mets have the go-ahead run at first base that is their 24th it and that will represent a new high for the match their previous high 23 against the Cubs back in 64 we have that game on tape and we'll run it for that's 40 total hits in the game and 13 pitchers and 20 runs and all our Jets there's the bunt camp should go to second he does bad throw Johnson will go to third and they Mets have a king-sized rally in the 18th Rick camp had a play at second base he had an easy force because he punted the ball too hard and right back a ton but he threw it low in and the Mets are in business that'll go down as a sacrifice and an error on camp yes you had plenty of time right here is just gonna throw a strike through it low well they don't give him a sacrifice to give him a fielder's choice on an era on camp now the Braves have to bring the infield in here's Danks drew this kid I've been up and down between Tidewater in the big club this year a couple of times I've been at battling 33 times and just about equal that tonight first and third no one out top of the 18th as a foul ball they weren't playing the runner at first he was going to second base heap he'll come back on the foul ball 20 runs 40 hits three errors 13 pitchers two ejections protests protests we got about the protest camp has to get the ground ball here he doesn't and that will score the run Murph in center field will make the catch Howard Johnson scores and the Mets lead at 1110 on the sacrifice fly by Lenny Dykstra now Dykstra gets his second RBI of the game and his 7/6 of the year now a runner at first base that's Danny Heep one out here is Wally Backman with Hernandez on deck and a strike in the bottom of the seventeenth the Braves will have Gerald Perry 18th excuse me Gerald Perry Jerry hopper and wreck him and they have no one to pinch-hit for camp you know who's gonna know it I was gonna say Rick mailer but he started this game tonight didn't he can't come in well Zain Smith that should be chilled there's one of them and back when beat the throw it's a force at second Dan here's Hernandez Hernandez has hit for the cycle tonight the runner goes on as a flyball to right field which Claudell will come in Murphy will cut in front make the catch however the Mets take the lead they get a run on a hit and a big error throwing error we set up the run and leave one at the end of 17 and a half the Mets 11 and the Braves 10 [Music] that sound is going to teach you more fish than you ever thought verdicts victims highlight blessings drama decisions CNN's live coverage lets you make up your own life about what you see and hear [Music] you see the line total we're in the bottom of the 18 the Braves have Gerald Perry Terry Harper then a a thorny question Rick camp the Braves have no players left they have Rick camp as the third hitter him and all deference to our buddy Rick you really don't want him to represent the final out of the game they could pinch it I guess Bedrosian or Zain Smith now the guys who are left there's a strike and that represents another question who would pitch in the 19th would you pitch one of your starting pitches Oh 1 2 Gerald O'Gorman made a nice play one away one away and here's cherry Harper Harper tied the game in the 13th with a two-run home run and that has to be on the mind of Tom Gorman and Gary Carter Jerry has a double two singles in a home run tonight he tried to tie it right there and Rick camp is on deck the Mets lead at 11:10 were the bottom half of the 18th [Music] count of anjou to weigh in a note you count on Harper I don't know this guy's blowing taps or what these fans are sensational here sensational it is 3:20 in the morning and now with it one out and a no to count and the Mets send their pitching coach Mel stottlemyre out he might be running the team I don't know who's running the team Davey Johnson was tossed he's running the team Davey is from the tunnel probably the style Mike I guess is telling Gorman what to throw because the last time Harper had two strikes on to be tied the game with a home run and also they know that the Braves are out of hitters and at Burt camp on deck so you see Carter he wants the pitch away whatever it is John there was another ballgame probably the longest as far as going into the morning hours August 10th 1977 the Expos at Philadelphia's second game with doubleheader Philly six Expos one game ended 323 Hernandez will scoop it and touch the bag to way and in that game there are four rain delays just to give you an idea and what's happened here tonight here's camp this is why I always save a player that this is absolutely the reason I thought the Braves did the right thing they let Runge take a shot at winning it and he hit the ball well but now two outs of knowing on the Mets are waving there in Fiat they're outfielders in the whole Met team waving their outfielders in here's Rick camp with a game on the line two outs and Owen on base and at least he took a good cut and fouled off Ernie if he hits a home run to tie this game this game will be certified as absolutely the nuttiest in the history of baseball ba they could go to another pitcher but in 18 innings they've used just about everybody now the only three guys left over Jojen Perez and Zane Smith there's a strike going to so they've researched that they figure the champ is the best hitter of the right three left it'll be a no 2 pitch and he is it the blue [Music] [Applause] [Music] remember one exists enemy at the home run that certifies this game as the wacky wildest most incredible game in history Oh Ricky's hit it over the left centerfield wall I jumped Oliva if you only knew on the brain we kid Ernie nobody could believe it Jeff fakes at 11:11 his first major league homer and here's better than I mean that is the most improbable act let's see it again Ernie we got to look at this another 50 times that goes heap it's out of here and it hit the football bleachers I mean if you told me that John Sterling's gonna run for president and win that wouldn't be any more improbable and I gotta say that's improbable on the believable meanwhile the pen on Benedict is three and oh and if I was tough you know when camp came up and we didn't show it Gary corner and the Mets infield has waved everybody in let's cut off the pop fly mark goldsmith corrects me our director I'm sorry I mean subpoenaed tried on your feet I looked at the monitor I didn't see it but he said they did show it isn't that amazing that's the most amazing thing that's ever happened in baseball that's mind-boggling the count on Benedict three and two obviously the first homer of his major league career is that unbelievable I'd say it okay yeah the odds on that have to be a million to one ten million to one what do I know the and Benedict walk [Applause] the Braves had run out of players they decided not to use Petrosian or or Perez the same Smith to pinch-hit for camp who is acknowledges they figured he was the best hitter left that's what they figured here's Paul Runge the winning run at first Ray Knight makes the play and we go to second tonight see if you pull the major league players it would be the least likely guy to hit a home run to tie it up I think they'd say Rick cam the Braves on camp first major league home run has tied it he gets a standing ovation we go to the 19th all tied at 11 [Applause] [Music] enjoy the great taste of diet coke and caffeine free diet or save real Cola taste and no caffeine there's a changing world out there and so much others we want to share with you in showy night [Music] because we here will always be [Music] because you have the right for wear [Music] [Music] the picture of dejection as Tom Gorman gave up a game-tying homerun to Rick Camp with two outs no one on base at a no 2 count that's about the most unforgettable moment in baseball we go to the ninth inning tied at 11 I don't know how you describe it unforgettable improbable absolutely amazing we go to the 19th here's Ernie thank you very much John camp to Gary Carter down low Carter with one two three hits tonight make it four by the way now this game is the longest in time it'll end the latest of any game in history that's uptime metal going to be a base hit Carter starts the 19th with a single scorebook looks like a rock chicken walked all over I got to go to a couple of more pages there you know what I'm gonna do for you I'm gonna look up brick camps lifetime batting average this is Kristensen up for the first time strawberry was ejected lifetime work camp going into this year was up a hundred and sixty two times in that ten days bunted good but Benedict's gonna have to hurry and he gets the sacrifice work novella came over to take the time let's see the pitchers do up I believe let's see what we get they still have rusty Staub and it might be Babe Ruth there he comes big rusty Bob as a pinch-hitter for Gorman yes Ron darlings running down to the bullpen they might go to a starter here they don't have anything less other than starters and I believe he was scheduled for Sunday so he's a natural choice there's darling Bob one of the all-time great pinch hitters and he has around 2,700 hits in his career I don't I can't believe the met of the Braves would pitch to rusty but Bob at 2:41 homer in five RBI [Music] Knight is on deck they're gonna watch table ball 2 outside battle bring on Knight who was at two consecutive hits he got hit number 20 and number 22 they have 25 the Braves have 17 the most dramatic of course Rick cams homer with two outs and two strikes Knight with runners at first and second our Johnson on deck we have played two games boats we're starting on the third this is the top of the nineteen unbelievable comeback by both teams that's line filed on the right side on one but maybe the brains a little more dramatic when you think of the Mets head it one Harper hit a two-run homer to tie it with two strikes with two strikes and then camp it's his first major league home run to make it 11 to 11 stop is at first Carter's at second signed by Benedict antio on pitch driven to right-center field can anybody catch up Claudell can't make it this is going to score on Carter's in stop to third and that's going to make it 12 11 as Ray Knight has done it again Washington Josh couldn't get up to it he hit at right centerfield or it got the up and Ray Knight hit it very hard to right-center field just passed Claudell stop who doesn't run well can only get the third of these excuse me the Braves will now walk Howard Johnson this will load them for Danny Heep they have no other choice try to go for two now the three of but Johnson at first nights at second stop a third a run in its 12 to 11 now Danny Heep I know I wanna know by the way one board joke three on and one out the Braves at DoublePlay depth and the one one right Carl wanted to little long and the tutu on the way they sit right there that'll score one throw toward the plate going to be not in time bounced off the runner another runner coming to the plate and we're gonna score first of all given heat a single probably two RBIs and when the ball bounced away three score it's a base hit by heat a couple of runs came in Waddell trying to get the runner of the plane actually the ball hits the runner as Benedict is going up the line the ball was the loft line and it got kicked by that base runner and a foul territory in the third runs scored it's 1511 pitches low to Dykstra the single two RBIs an error on the throw by Claude L allowing the other run to come in one Oh flyball left-center Murphy going back should catch it on the run and he does the tag at second and he goes to third Dykstra makes out number two but four runs have scored here in the top of the 19th and the batter Wally Backman he has free hits Ray Knight who was hitless until the 13th has reeled off three straight hits including what now appears to be the game-winner on in this interval based in another run end that's Backlund totally out of hand now is the understatement 16:11 with five runs here in the 19th you have a 28 or 29 yes I have a 29 scoreboards get it 28 either way it's not earth shattering is it here's Hernandez fouling away which is outside Fernandez with a single double triple and Homer he's hit for the cycle Backman at 1st and camp with a 1-1 bounce out towards Avella that'll do it but five runs is scored we go to the bottom half of the ninth inning 16 to 11 New York [Music] I'm skip carry one of the Braves announcers for the Sporting News and I have got an offer for you you won't want to pitching we're going to the bottom half of the 19th the fellow will later be followed by Washington and then remarried the Braves have had miracles all night but I think they're probably out of the mound with five runs in the top half of this inning this is the longest game in time and innings in both leagues this year darling primarily a starter delivers its bounce up by third but it is foul without a runs it out anyway that's what you're supposed to do well let's check his record Ron darling seven and two what a year two point four six no saves scheduled a pitch on Sunday tonight Aguilera again Pasquale Perez Gorman stands to win it toward second one darling can't get a say because the lead is too great camp Stan's Beluga here's Washington but what a game for drama I tell you camp hitting that home run Harper hitting the 2-run shot then the Mets came back a couple of times unbelievable game and when camp at that home run you just couldn't believe the reaction of the people here that's toward first and by Hernandez off and cloud Waddell we'll be a second base let's see how they score that Washington with three hits already tonight Fernandez usually as good hand should have had that ball [Music] now remarried it's gonna be ruled an error you'd be the first one to tell you that burn under his Ramirez he said three it's tonight basketball outside corner the match with 28 hits the Braves with 1745 hits in the game in 27 run and tossing a couple of rain delays and breakfast is right around the corner it's 20 minutes to 4:00 you know I figured out without the rain delays this is a six-hour ballgame yeah you know it's a shame anyone has to lose a game like this after playing so hard and so long but the Braves are in tough shape right now on that great catch by the shortstop Howard Johnson he bobbles it but hangs on not Dale Murphy strike on the outside corner [Music] two away Murphy weights and the curve balls in the dirt darling against Murphy with to LA and a runner at second I had [Music] now the 2 1 2 & 2 curta with a sign darling with a tutu murphy swings and hits it foul past third perry would be next signed by Carter two balls two strikes Washington off second base and the two two on the way inside ball three now a three to pop Tim file how to play over first Ernie who do you think is the tying run in this ballgame mmm the what the tying run at the Rick hand it's getting to you about three balls that do Drive another three to offering down low ball four is Darryl Perry two on and two out very looking for is first into the night Harper's on deck the one Oh strike on one ball and throw time [Music] right god this is wild two on two balls two strikes two outs and the two two two Gerald Perry pop foul out of play Harper would be no Murphy furs Washington's second very try to keep it going in one of the most amazing games we've ever been a part of to to driven along the line powder left it's gonna be into the seat milk man's gonna say what are you doing up so late and then does it first taking a little breather here's a to toe inside ball three the brave tied it in the 13th tied it in the 18th but had fallen five big ones behind here in the 19th the pitch low ball four bases the Loden Gary Harper was four hits tonight including a two-run homer in the 13th and Rick camp comes to the on-deck circle [Applause] as I said he is a flying Rock darling pitch outside one enough [Music] and a lot of Dada Cary's at first Murphy second Washington third and a to outfish great call to along and the two one ribbon card right field it's going to be in prep a set to render gonna score it bobbles carried a third to hold him back to first goes Harper it's 16 of 13 on a single oh right by Harper [Applause] and Rick camps as we take one more look little soft singular I Christensen bobbled it for a moment didn't make any difference two runs we're going to score anyway kept the runner from staying his second however and they'll probably charge him with an error I would think to get the runaround the third there's Rick cast they represent the tying run [Applause] and the pitch strike car and it all on one on it Fowler [Music] [Applause] coming curveball outside we're gonna miss said it's over as camp goes down on strike and listen to the hand from these fans here for both sides really we talked about this for what an effort in 19 innings the Mets won at 16 the 13 will be back with a total right after this message [Music] there's a changing world out there and so much we want to share with you is showing life [Music] because we here will always be the time [Music] [Music] because you have [Music] with this be incredible [Music] no a Toyota is the number one selling small truck first off nothing can get you out of the rough like a Toyota 4x4 then nothing can carry more equipment than the Toyota one time and no small van can carry more than a Toyota and most important nothing cannot drive a Toyota no wonder Toyota's will number-17 small truck in America like a lot of other guys I like to keep up with sports on TV baseball football and hockey basketball tennis boxing you name it now we can get the latest scores at our convenience on CNN Headline News every 30 minutes CNN Headline News gives us the sport at 20 minutes past the hour and ten minutes before the next hour around the clock for it's on Edline news that's convenient look for headline news on your cable system we'll call your cable operator to get it all right area tunnels in nineteen innings in New York Mets win it 16 to 13 16 runs 28 hits and two errors of rays 13 runs 18 hits and three errors Tom Gorman the winner and relief he's four and three Rick camp the loser he is two and four and give ray Knight the game-winning RBI homerun Fernandez hit one who needed nobody on Johnson hit one in the thirteenth is one aboard Harper in the thirteenth is one aboard is eight and Rick camp hit one in the eighteenth with nobody on his first major league home run and that made the final score 16 to 13 one of the longest games that we've ever experienced and we're happy that we had a part of it here's some of the highlights top of the first two outs Hernandez double the left-center field and then Carter will single Hernandez home here's a big catcher up the middle it goes it's one nothing New York you can see how what it became here's brought out Washington bottom of the first he hits the ball down the right-field side it gets by strawberry right there but then Washington puts a deke on him around second base watch him right there as he saw the ball being thrown the second they didn't have a chance he had a triple and Ramirez on a grand OTT made the score 1-1 as Washington scored after a rain delay bobert foul with a double this is in the bottom of the third corner and Harper score making it 3-1 Atlanta [Music] now in the top of the fourth and he wally backman an RBI single hit at the center in Santana scored a three to Atlanta still in the top of the for Hernandez again a triple he hit for the cycle tonight that is a home run triple double single Washington trying to slide along and make a circus cut couldn't make it it cut by Dykstra back from both short as for 3d Mets still topped with a fourth Carter another base hit RBI single 5-3 New York the bottom of the fifth Rick Cerrone single Harper scores it's 5-4 New York and in the top of the sixth inning strawberry with a single Backman scores and that makes it 6-2 for New York and I'm telling you from now on you see some dramatic top of the eighth fernanda is a home run and that makes it well you think perhaps out of reach seven four but it's not bottom of the eighth with a bases-loaded Dale Murphy drives a ball to deep left center field cleans the bases with eight seven Atlanta in the top of the nice however Dykstra on a little infield hit Horner trying to make a great play couldn't come up with it a run scores it's eight eight top of the 13th Howard Johnson a home run Knight was on first it's ten eight they are bottom of the 13th Ramirez singles at Harper hits a foul ball at 1010 in the bottom of the 13th then we go to the top of the 8th date the sac fly by Dijkstra that'll put New York out in front by one and in the bottom of the 18th would you believe this with two outs and two strikes Rick camp ties the ballgame here it goes first major league home run for camp but in the nineteenth night gets a game-winning double and four more runs score here's a game-winning double four more runs score makes a final score 1613 of the Braves came up with a couple of run in the bottom half of the 19th and our final in nineteen innings 1613 Mets and we have started our fireworks display let's take it let's watch it let's enjoy it
