[Music] for years the trademark of but grants Minnesota Vikings was a feared defense a signature of resurfacing now under cherry fern as the Vikings strive for to playoff spot now the uncertainty remains at quarterback where Johnny Kramer's help keeps backup Wade Wilson on ready-alert [Music] when you've done a Dallas uniform you do so in the far-reaching shadows of a glory pass and now the Cowboys are a team in transition whose future appears to be Hershel Walker who presently must contend with an unsettled quarterback situation as they seek to refuel the winning tradition for the man who helped create it [Music] today a crucial game for both teams especially for Dallas who must find a winning formula or their playoff chances could slip away [Music] the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving Day and a happy Thanksgiving Day to all of you from all of us visit the Dallas Cowboys we're live at Texas Stadium on a rather cool overcast day but nevertheless good day to play and some are all with John Madden if the playoffs started today this is the way it would be the Bears the 49ers and the Redskins would be in wild-card teams certainly would be New Orleans and the other two spots would be a battle between the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys this game perhaps is more important to Dallas not to belittle the Minnesota Vikings in their efforts today but it's perhaps more important to the Cowboys than the Vikings John Madden as usual is here with me and John I guess when you start talking about this contest you talk first about quarterbacks right and you can't tell Jerry Burns that this isn't the most important thing is he says Tommy Cramer is the starting quarterback he said but we're going for playoff series so we're not going for a popularity contest if he can do it fine if he can move the team great if not he said I'll go to Wade Wilson you said we have to get someone in there to move the team and the Dallas situation well of course we know that Tom Landry is going to start Danny white I think that's the first thing Danny white passed the first test he looked good in the warm-ups today but I think that the other test is can they protect them can they keep the Vikings off him if not I think we'll see Steve pull or in there because he's a little better scrambling against a big pass rush but whether it's Danny white or Steve floor if the Cowboys are going to win they have to do it with this guy here Herschel Walker either by running the ball or by throwing it to him we're gonna find out soon if it's Danny white or Steve polluter because the Cowboys have won the toss Chuck Nelson we'll kick off from Minnesota Calvin Washington Daryl clack back deep for the cowboy Elson set that sorwe we hope it's been a delightful day for you dick rather short it's going to be more it's outside the 20 25 it'll be first down for the Cowboys Guga most made the stop a 15-yard return and there will be the Dallas quarterback at least in the beginning Danny white he'll face this Viking defense Martin Thomas Stafford Mays and Chris Dolman they're the four down people Martin stuck well and Jesse Solomon the linebackers Henderson Lee Harris and Joey browner in the secondary right side nothing [Applause] maybe a yard stop by Joey Brennan that's a name you'll hear a lot the offense wiped the quarterback Walker in loosen the two runners Edwards and Renfro the wide receivers to begin with upfront to a Newton Rafferty Crawford Kerr Kevin gokhan and Cosby it brings up a second and nine situation on Thanksgiving Day Danny white as there Barksdale's foots wide to the right white back to throw what [Applause] Jesse Solomon on the defense it's interesting the Cowboys start that way against Miami they didn't complete one pass to a wide receiver they completed one to the tight end to Doug Cosby and all the rest of their completed passes were to the running backs most of them to Herschel Walker that's just what gentlemen was talking about the distribution of the cowboy passes last week on the spread formation there [Applause] to the left white [Applause] [Music] and the feet worked angle but no flag that's where he had to man on man he's looking at their wyman Henderson is man to man as Darren Edwards and it looked like Edwards pushed him I think that's one thing they have to stop calling a penalty on every time let those guys play just like that Saxon back to God good kick last week stocks at his own 20 and he's got some rumors [Applause] all the way down to the Dallas 42 [Applause] 54-yard punt return of 38 yeah we always talk about the offense the defense who's quarterbacking but in a lot of games in the NFL they're won and lost by specialty and a big return by Leo Lewis starts this game off that was a key in the Viking victory last week a block punt [Applause] and Aaron Nelson stark behind by Eugene some question about whether he'd be able to play her he is a deep bruise but he looked over mobile on that one at least at Jones Brooks Randy white and Jeffcoat the down floor Pegman Lockhart in the middle who just made that tackle and Jeff roar the linebackers walls and Francis the corner backs and downs and Bates the safety set it down [Applause] to throw and gets it out to Tara Nelson biking first down knocked out of bounds by Jeff roar pickup of ten now the Viking offense Kramer the quarterback Nelson and Anderson the runners wide receivers Anthony Carter and Leo Lewis fronted Zimmerman Hoffman Loudermilk Greg cook is moved into right guard Tim Irwin and Steve Jordan of fine tight end Kraemer as John Madden was saying earlier in the day they'd like for him to be the starter but he just hasn't been able to get on track as he did last year [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Henderson took a couple of pretty good rap Lockhart and Bates with a sandwich the other thing that Tommy Cramer was talking about is he looked at the tapes from last year and he found it when he had his great year he was taking the shortest ride now this year he's taking a longer stride and he didn't have the same control Thanksgiving Day we're at Texas Stadium the last time the Vikings played on Thanksgiving Day was 1969 weather conditions a little different [Applause] from Paige to Marshall [Applause] Vikings won that game by the way over the Lions 27 to nothing in that driving snowstorm that's kind of the way the game should be playing Thanksgiving Day everyone you know the fireplace and turkey and football players have to plays seven twenty-seven [Applause] nearly at six Leo Lewis can run because the Cowboys had double coverage on him what you may have them inside out leo Lewis splits them and out runs both of them that is speed now as Williams and Bates back there with him Vikings within field goal range it'll be 44 and a half yards out Chuck Nelson with Rick nothing nothing so far Minnesota - go ahead [Applause] Everson wall for the Cowboys it was that took locket this is how the kicker saw it is going to come in from the outside it's a good snap the ball gets down there and watched downstream in their layout and hit that block [Applause] picked it up so the Cowboys escape they'll have it first and 10 at their own 23 [Applause] in the game with Timmy nuisance split wide to the left a couple call at 3:00 David Howard made the hit that stop door sentence I think that's another thing the Cowboys want to do today is to get Dorsett back in the game he didn't play against Miami and they would like to get both Dorsett and Walker in there at the same time [Music] Walker doesn't like that as much because he likes to be the tailback a running back and not be spread out he is spread out to the top of your picture right now make it second and seven doorstep moving in motor [Applause] Paul is loose in the Vikings habit so we brother came [Applause] that's the thing that the as the Cowboys have to handle today is that big pass rush and that big pass from Chris Coleman he's coming from the outside number 56 real good speed - speed rusher he was a linebacker move - down defensive lineman and could become one of the leading sackers in this lake and branner made the recovery so the Vikings take over at the Dallas 11 yard line first and ten from there with 11:30 left to play in the first quarter Holmen just run right by mark to a [Applause] first in jannat the 11th wide open is Anthony Carter making touchdown Kramer take advantage of that turnover that's the time to go for it you get that turnover then you come right in it that defense is fired up you give them a play fake fake that run and then get your speed coming across the field Anthony Carter leads all receivers in the NFC in average yards per catch that one was only 11 but it was for the touchdown Tom Landry said yesterday that you guys we have to control whether speed guys that was one of them Darren Nelson the other [Applause] Nelson for the extra point and the Vikings take the lead 7 nothing here's the touchdown again we'll see the play fake there you see that holds the linebackers gets them all there Anthony Carter starts at the left end comes all the way across the field and he was wide open all the way and so with 11 25 left in the first quarter it's 7 nothing Minnesota holiday greetings from Budweiser the people who bring you Budweiser wish you and yours the very best of everything this holiday season [Music] Minnesota seven Dallas nothing 1125 left to play in the first quarter past summer oil with John Madden on Thanksgiving Day Calvin Martin back deep for the Cowboys along with Darrell quack Nelson to kickoff for Minnesota like included seven I think [Applause] [Music] [Applause] short of the 20 yard line about the 18 a return of 16 hit by Ray Barry 7-nothing vikings first quarter 11 yard touchdown pass from Kramer to Carter [Applause] let's look at the touchdown again bet here's Anthony Carter he comes all the way across he say what happened to the free safety Michael downs he comes up on the play babe boom Carter gets right by her see the playmate there comes the safety there goes Anthony Carter [Applause] right gets it up to Kelvin Edwards on first down for a loss of three [Applause] they one of the big matchups here Pat I think is going to be marked to an eight against Chris Dolman because Dolman beat him that first one and of course that caused the fumble and that got the Vikings their first touchdown to an a we've just been told John is injured will not be back and Daryl Smith has taken his place a rookie from Tennessee six five and 280 that's going to be a tough [Applause] any white hearing some booze which he has heard for the last month in fact since the strike he has been listening to those booths you know he has that wrist thing going and what happens is he can't bend his wrist so he can't flick the ball out and when he throws the ball sometimes that comes out of his hand he doesn't even know when the ball leaves his hand Greeley's got very little feel in that right wrist these pants snap it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] over the hand of Kelvin Edward that's the thing he really can't do Danny white and a pattern like that when the ball is got to be zipped in there he just can't seem to get that done no and I think if he's going to have much more of a career at all he's 35 years old but he will have to have that thing operated on in the offseason Saxon back to bunt his first putt traveled 53 yards Leo Lewis brought it back 38 this one is not so good in a hurry by ship roar was the first band down a punt of 40 he managed two yards on the return so they had 38 so the Vikings will take over again in pretty good shape they lead already seven to nothing [Music] that's great if we wanted a Bud Light if you want the great 1022 left to play in the first quarter Minnesota leaves Dallas seven nothing there's wonder why people cheer during timeouts what are they cheering thank you might be on camera [Applause] covered by wall in such an unusual season it seems strange to be talking on Thanksgiving Day about the playoff picture but it's very valid if it's finished today the division leaders would be the Bears the 49ers in Washington but look at all the teams in the NFC who have a shot at those wild card spots a lot of people watching with interest today if the Vikings win today there's going to be less and less teams that have a shot [Applause] to Steve Jordan with tight Andrew gets down in Dallas territory a gain of 15 and that will be enough for a Viking first down Jeff roar knocked him out of bound hey Tommy Cramer had some some time there will see the blocking here in too tall Jones that's Tim Irwin going against him I'll tell you he got him stopped and then got that arm going boom going back let's watch it on the other side on Jim Jeff go that Zimmerman blocking him there good pass protection on the end you can't let them get up the field if you have that then you can get the ball on those out you can find somebody if you have [Applause] Kevin Brooks just as he got the ball from Kramer no game [Music] now starting and playing regularly with the release of John Dutton he had high hopes for him and still do you know the other guy they have high hopes for is Danny Noonan who is their number one draft choice this year and I think their eventual defense line would have Kevin Brooks playing in to draw Jones the spot and someday Danny Noonan playing for Randy white that would seem to be what's going rush by Brooks that time he was hurried he tried to get it to Rick Finny but a good rush by Kevin Brooks that time it was a line stunt and it's an interesting thing that's how you get Kevin Brooks that way you see he starts inside too tall goes that way Brooks starts inside and comes outside and gets the pressure so he starts a tackle too tall takes two blockers and then Brooks comes around that thing that's how it's supposed to work [Applause] play to Nelson got enough for another Viking first down bill Bates made the stop but the darter Darrin Nelson that's the thing Tom Landry was saying yesterday this is one guy we have to control their speed guy Darren Nelson in the backfield and the other guy Anthony Carter course we've already seen Carter he got that first touchdown and Darren Nelson just got that first down at the Dallas 27 Minnesota leading already seven and up [Applause] looks out of bounds at the 23 michael downs continued out of bounds a gain of four yards I can see why is shaking his head that was an ugly-looking run he's looking for it to see if they put it on the screen he just ran out of bounds what kind of run was that slider yeah but it's not even wet after I don't think he looked like he couldn't get under control and the next thing rapped he's out of bounds [Applause] wise man [Applause] made the tackle but he got nine yards here's another guy weighs 245 and has really been a surprise well Jerry Burns likes him he's a rookie at the University of Washington and he has that size is a block or and to get that short yardage stuff for you and on that play he had some quickness she's him Pat boom he was right through that hole first and ten at the 14 Anderson's replaced Finney [Applause] about the five by Lockhart and Jeff roar that was either a good move by Darren Nelson or poor tackling by Ron Francis because once Darren Nelson gets out what Frances he'll come up the right side of the screen there goes Nelson now watch right here France is up there ready to tackle him won't gets an arm he runs right through that and Nelson picks up for another six or seven yards as you said for tackling [Applause] and the Vikings come up with it at about the two Nelson made the recovery that's the thing that you always worry about with a rookie running back in there on the goal line because these are always tough yards down there but the other thing is everyone's going to be in there and go punching at the football see you try and get a guy to hold him up then that second guy comes in there and tries to pop the ball out of his hand deal when I get here and now standing right there first and goal of the line and rice for no gain stop by Steve Biasi that time 7-nothing Minnesota leads Dallas Jeff roared did a good job at getting penetration once you get down in that goal line the purple jerseys can't allow the white jerseys to get across that line of scrimmage at last play they allowed one white jersey to get there [Applause] second and goal from the war the quarterback doesn't make it a bigger party Lockhart was the first cowboy to hit him [Applause] this is good goal line defense budget here from brown level the purple jerseys going after the white jersey they don't get any movement back and then the back guys can come and dive over now the Cowboys had about four guys diving over you usually have one guy on that play [Applause] he barely got in but he got in there was a good call because what he did is he got there before the divers could get there if you hand the ball then the divers have that much room but watch out quickly Kramer can take the ball and just go right in there behind the center and now those divers haven't gotten there yet you see by the time the divers get in there Lockhart being the first one Kramer's are already crushed to plane Nelson for the extra point with Coleman homing trying to make it 14 nothing 6 minutes and 15 seconds left to play in the first quarter at Texas Stadium and the Vikings lead the Dallas Cowboys by the score of 14 to nothing [Music] it's a message from all of us happy Thanksgiving Chuck Nelson set to kick off Minnesota scoring drive 12 plays they went 54 yards they kept at 4 minutes and 7 seconds Kramer the quarterback steeped got the touchdown Darrell black and Kelvin Martin back deep for Dallas Minnesota somewhat surprisingly making it look easy already 14 nothing over down to get anything generated in office [Applause] kick-off goes [Music] rakes away from a the 35-yard line knocked out by Walker Lee Ashley but a good return [Applause] penalty flag down back at about 2:15 could bring this whole thing back illegal block in the back let's watch the touchdown again you can see why a quarterback sneaks a good play look here's the jumper here's the jumper here's the jumper here's the jumper but they can't get there by the time the quarterback sneak breaks the play see if you hand off watch all four of those jumpers one two three four they can all get there if you just take it and fall in they can penalty on the kickoff takes the ball all the way back to the Dallas seven yard line where white Walter gets up to about the eighth Chris Dolman on the tackle [Music] hey let's Kris Dolman here you know he's been a linebacker this year he's a defensive lineman all year and this was the thing that he had to learn one to play from a three-point stance and two to take on a big tackle say he did both of those things perfectly do you play it that way he's learned that lesson second and nine [Applause] [Music] [Applause] for gain of 12 and a Dallas first down there first li-mei the stop until lat play Minnesota had 80 yards in Dallas was in the negative figures not only that that was the first time if they've gotten a ball to a wide receiver in a couple of weeks [Applause] in the backfield our standing behind Merson there for him no game knocked backwards by Henry Thomas they watch the play that Henry Thomas makes here he's 1997 right there he's a rookie who started from day one but now watch him take on the center play right down the line keep those knees bent and boom just explode into that tackle okay this was probably the biggest surprise on this fighting team they still say that he's been very consistent well I guess he's never played like a rocket he's got some room [Applause] 25 and that gets the fans going a big block by their Center Tom Rafferty Radford he get out there and he made a block at about the 35 yard line and that was a block that sprung sprung up see if we can watch it watch the center Bradford he starts down no watch he's going to sneak out there sneaking down the line to watch 64 he's going to get the block right and that gives Walker the sideline and another 78 yards first and ten Dallas get it off this is going here you got a couple Jesse Solomon and David Howard made the stop Dorsett got three the one thing they know that if the Cowboys are going to win they have to get the ball to Herschel Walker which they've been that click in the last two games 757 yards 255 have been walked or Russian 133 in receiving and so he's been 51 percent of their total offense brings up the second and seven Cowboys at their own 48 [Applause] they'll white under pressure was hit by Stanford phrase just as he left the ball I think that was a combination of three things one Danny white not really having a strong arm - having two bad wrists and number three having a guy hanging on that arm Stafford Mays just three pretty good handicaps they're in the 48 Vikings leading 14-nothing 3:12 left to play in the first corner [Applause] on the Sprint [Applause] intended for parts Dale in here and probably going to anyway but there was no one open that was great coverage by the bike because Danny white had time he had pretty good fast protection he looked he looked and looked and couldn't find anyone open so Saxon stands back at his own 33 Leo Lewis back at the Viking 10 [Applause] Louis sickles makes it just outside the 20 31 yard punt let's just look at that third down play now this is what Danny Wright had to look at he's in the shotgun you see the motion now he's looking he's looking he's looking and see everything is here everything is bunched up he doesn't have anything in there he doesn't have one of his guys open you see there's still no one open look at the coverage here here look at the coverage in here so he finally has to go to the short guy but you have to give credit to the defensive secondary for cognitive or discredit for the receivers not getting over and they just haven't been able to get [Applause] else we'll take it down forever some walls but very close to the first down yardage almost 10 dude call almost have an interception here that's just 72 he reads it right now look at that the ball just went right through his hands into Darrin Nelson when things aren't going right they aren't going right [Applause] shoots all's been having a good year that's what he'll think about her a good read started as pass rush and his fall was happening his flat now first down Minnesota [Applause] [Music] now view was open [Applause] Tommi Kramer looks sharp not just throwing but in the ball handling and the execution as well yeah we talked about that earlier how it on Bundy he watched tapes of last year and he found that he had a shorter stride and throwing and this year he said he was taking a long stride and he couldn't hit the hand up and over so he changed them Tuesday and Wednesday and feels that he's back now they close to where he was a year ago [Applause] second of ten [Applause] fallout - Darren Nelson enough for a first down and a gain of 13 they picked up the Blitz very effectively they did and then and then they have that's one thing that the Vikings have they have Anthony Carter on one side and Leo Lewis on the other side and then out of the backfield they have Darren Nelson who not only gives him a good receiver but a good receiver with speak who's also very elusive first in ten Minnesota at their own 45 rice and lynnie or the treatment system right back to work tied into Steve Jordan who can't hang on he was open the winning bill Bates was hanging on him Steve Jordan is one of the few players from the Ivy League that's playing in the National Football League from Brown University in fact we have to in this game we have Steve Jordan from Brown the tight end on one side and Jeff roar the linebacker from Yale on the other side who would have thought Jordan play with your son I guess well he played before my son got there but Jordan is one of the heroes up there at Brown it's an engineer in the offseason and it's a real role model I mean those are the types of people that you can you know when you're looking for someone to say what should we do a guy like Steve Jordan is a good guy to look at this is a biking timeout Tommy Cramer not happy with what he got from the sideline this of course traditionally one of the great weekends in college football as well as the to Thanksgiving Day games in the NFL tomorrow it'll be Alabama against number seven ranked Auburn at Birmingham Legion Field live at 232 the best players in college football Bobbie Humphrey the running back from Alabama and Jeff Berger the Auburn quarterback you know I was driving down the other day we're coming down to the bus from New York to New Orleans and we had breakfast and ocker Auburn Alabama you know right where it is and they were fired up about this game like a week ago there's been an ongoing controversy about where that game should be played traditionally it's been in Birmingham people in Auburn think they ought to have a home game they don't consider that to be at Birmingham the people at Alabama think well maybe it ought to be in Tuscaloosa I'll tell you when you get a rivalry like that you can play them in the parking lot okay you just whether they stay get it on by saying fight to rep rate some before the fight say okay get it on get it on anywhere get it on tomorrow here on CBS at 2:30 Eastern Time Auburn and Alabama one of college football's great rivalry 14 nothing Minnesota leads the Dallas Cowboys Anderson setbacks as we all [Music] Kraemer back to crow and say Carter is out of an [Applause] by Ron Francis Anthony Carter looks like with a good solid shock he might break in half but you know they call him ostrich legs and he just laughs about it he says he says I do he said they make fun of my legs I always have he said but they've done some pretty good things for me at Michigan in the USFL now in the NFL got him a touchdown today laughs too hard they still have to cover me [Applause] [Music] picked off by walls and picked off by fire [Applause] I think that's something that Cowboys needed it's just anything to change the momentum they needed to play and they get it here from Everson walls he gets their hips the ball bounces off him and into Eugene Locker but they needed something to start to turn this thing around they remember sawal well you [Applause] this victory away they were on and nuisance running back behind Danny white [Applause] a one-handed cat [Applause] it was doing a good job bad as they put Daryl Smith was a rookie tackle in there at left-back Oh replacing mark Tornai and he has to block Chris Dolman and since he's come in the game he's done a pretty good job let's watch him he's right here in the outside the left-hand side of the screen you see he gets into him drives a man has a little hole has a little hole and this drives him right by the quarterback that was good execution second and ten from the 48 nothing Minnesota 108 left in the first quarter the throw gets it outside of Kimi Gousha gets across the 50 years about the Minnesota 48 for a pickup of for Scott's Studwell and Jesse Solomon made the stop less than a minute left first corner Vikings leading 14-nothing bring up a third and six situation [Applause] last time landry what kind of year it's been and he just shakes his head [Applause] League has been out of sync all year right out of the Sprint [Applause] one of the things that Tom Landry was talking about yesterday about why it has not been a better season for down he said when when your offense scores less than your defense allows there's going to be a long year somehow you have to get that turned around you're lucky to be five and five realistically 14 nothing at the end of one [Music] CBS Sports coverage of the National Football League is sponsored by Bud Light everything else is just a light the heartbeat of America today's Chevrolet and by RadioShack the technology store [Music] back at Texas Stadium it's the Vikings and the Cowboys Pat Summerall in John Madden Vikings leading 14 to nothing but at first enchanted the Minnesota 41 [Applause] Henderson on the coverage very nearly had an interception the defense was yelling ball ball ball for wyman Henderson Delon and when the ball was in the air Renfro tried to make an out in the cup move where you run out first like you're gonna run an out pattern then you just turn it up the field Henderson didn't buy it at all he white is 4 out of 12 for 21 yards and the cowboy offense is struggling second at 10 Minnesota 41 [Applause] to Walker [Applause] accordian about that with a fake draw and then in the past pattern you see the fake there and then he just continues he fakes the ball to him then he continues right through the line and right to the outside that's a tough thing the Cowboys were two tight ends two backs and one wide receiver so they have to make the Vikings think they're going to run and they faked the play they could sneak walk around [Applause] with wide to the left white Newsom [Applause] pick up a floor Chris Nolan on the stop [Music] I think the Cowboys need a score here to stay in this game and change things around and if they're going to do it they have to do it with Herschel Walker and they're trying to get in to a pattern net where they can get them to ball on the pass a play pass that they can run to them and then get some mixture then get the ball someplace else to that type but they get something going will be second at sixths is Dorsett looks on [Applause] Walker behind wife [Applause] candid about the 7 by 10 gain of eight person goal cowboy [Music] [Applause] 14:02 left to play in the first half with Venice Oda leading Dallas 14 to nothing first and goal at the 7 for the Cowboys [Applause] if I bring this one back Brett Silva is the referee I think it was uncaused me he was complaining before Walker got into the endzone the Landers saying it's tough enough to get something go we don't need those penalties we score a touchdown number 84 holding 10 yards brings it back to the 17-yard line where it will be still first down we first in gold now from the 1713 57 left to play you can see Doug Cosby right here he's the block did they get it that they call him on he has to block the outside linebacker I mean that was [Applause] [Music] by John Harris Gate of seven they got some of it back when the Cowboys were practicing yesterday when they were in the middle of the field Tony Dorsett wasn't in there and then they got down here when they were practicing about the 10 yard line in the goal line and Dorsett was taken place and that was a one play that he ran in practice yesterday was from the 10 yard line to drop one and now they take him out and so it's Walker and Lucien second and goal [Applause] [Music] play that he scored on two plays ago that's the thing about Herschel Walker watch him come into the picture here our shoulders get square right now now he can go straight ahead or make that putt back against the grain and then when he gets the sunblock / son gotten turned around where his feet went into the end zone [Applause] that brings it 2/3 and go [Applause] white sickles question it was very close [Applause] the Cowboys have those big off [Applause] they didn't win the [Applause] looks like they're going to go and they [Applause] you want to get in there quickly the way to do it and Crowley from that distance that's the best thing they had going any white got it an Steve we'll hold for Roger ruzek they try to cut the viking leader [Applause] 52 yards a one-yard run quarterback sneak by Danny widens 14-7 [Music] [Applause] the Vikings got their first touchdown as a result of a turnover touchdown pass from Kramer the Carter Cowboys just scored after the interception by a Lockhart Herschel Walker has 68 total yards Pat Summerall John Madden at Texas Stadium on Thanksgiving Day Roger ruzek set to kick off Neil jugamos deep for Minnesota don't you like that when those kickers have like one color shoe on one foot and another color on the other foot like rusik has there they were figured that ass well I think one is too pleased to kick with and they're different types of shoes and different [Music] [Applause] got a pounds at the 33-yard line where the Vikings will take it over after a 23 yard return 14-7 11:41 left to play in the first half the Dallas scoring drive 52 yards they went after the interception circum 11 plays it's 14-7 now [Music] Tommi Kramer the Viking quarterback is 6 out of 13 for 73 yards one touchdown dr. Carter one interception Randy white is arguing there than someone held him Brooks the thing that Brooks does is he's here they're going to give him a plate that he doesn't go for the play fake at all he just gets the penetration you see they go for the play fake the Santa tries to get him he says the heck with that I don't believe it's a run I'm going for the quarterback make a second and 15 Nelson or the to Minnesota runner [Applause] [Music] my loss of two well you can feel that the Cowboys are fired up now watch Randy wait number 54 he starts in here he's going to pass rush he feels draw he just stands right there and plays off when she skirts it like it's a bathroom they seize it to draw just plays off his guard and makes the play he's breeding while he's going looks like you belong go to pick up front yell huh I think he stays most of the time there on third and 16 [Applause] Paul Jones with the pressure Dara Nelson [Applause] the Vikings will have to remember earlier Nelson that time Nelson went to make the move on him and Francis just stood his ground dr. Matta BAM you tall Jones put the pressure on Tammy Cramer it's Kelvin Martin back deep for Dallas and Greg Colvin [Applause] for the Viking [Applause] do some business with [Applause] one yard return of he said back when the ball was in the air it wasn't a a high kick so it looked like a returnable ball and the big secret there Calvin Martin caught the ball and there was no one within ten yards of it when he caught the ball then you're going to get the big return first int and Alice at the Minnesota 35 [Applause] one of the things that they say with the new change in philosophy by the Dallas offensive line is that Walker is just not quite used to it yet and has had trouble picking the hole well the Cowboys used to be a trained team that would pull and trap and kick out and a lot of different types of blocking now they just man or zone block everyone just takes off and blocks and area and sometimes it takes a while to get used to reading that Walker got to at second and eight [Applause] the grasp of Henry bleep ass didn't fool with Vikings that time it happens you see that Thomas gives penetration now what happens here is after the play fake Thomas gets right up in here now when Danny white tries to step up there's Thomas you see they take away these inside guys will take away any step up seen his Brian get to step up right there and there was Thomas you could see why they're excited about Henry Thomas since to 268 he's been a real fine started from day one they said he's never played like a rookie [Applause] right intercepted at about the one-yard line [Applause] Calvin Edwards was the intended receiver interception made by Henderson [Applause] you're going to see the Danny White has some pressure on him see he can't step up that was Chris Dolman 56 was coming from that outside and as he goes to step up then then he was hit so that took a little off the ball now watch Wyman Henderson here he's at coverage he has good coverage and just that little was taken off the ball allowed for the interception the Vikings will take over at their own one-yard line that might have been better than a pun and he knows how to make a party laughs it takes good sense to have a good time and spuds knows it's cool to live by one simple rule know when to say when a reminder from anheuser-busch third-ranked Florida State Police's Florida note retains championship hopes have been shattered now in the Irish shatter the hopes of Miami's Saturday on CBS Sports a little discussion on this play as to whether or not the Viking should have the ball 220 or at the one well the Vikings were arguing that wyman Henderson went into the endzone they should get it on a 20 [Applause] it was the right call by the official get after one [Applause] girl Anderson the ball-carrier met right after the line of scrimmage he might have gotten the yard Eugene Lockhart was the first man there you're coming out when you're playing defense it's just like goal line and what you do is you want to get low you want to get penetration you're playing the run you're playing the fullback you have everyone up there you don't want to let them out on this end like you don't want to let them in on the to me to the five a little bit of breathing room for Minnesota stop by Jeff drawer to pick up before [Applause] the Dallas defensive coordinator Ernie stocker who looks again as if he could still play thing you see bill Bates there in the sideline why he's not in [Applause] running situation handsome [Applause] the first band there some doubt about whether he'd be able to play at all because of a deep thigh bruise but he shot at least showing a lot of mobility today the Tom Landry said he made a mistake playing him against Miami said he wasn't ready and he shouldn't have played him because in a 4-3 defense he's the guy that has to make your tackles against a run and Miami really ate this defense up running Coleman standing deep at his own end zone Martin back deep for the cowboy [Applause] again a good return back down on the floor [Applause] Scot Studwell him out of bounds the penalty marker was way on the other side line and a long way away from the ball we'll see with the hat off when the official has his hat off that means that someone went out of bound right and he was marks with his hat so when he throws the hat and he's barking with that that's where he threw the flag on the far sideline where goes out of bounds he can't come back and block well for what he has is he has his hat and the flag unsportsmanlike conduct number 24 Minnesota 15 yards 24 is wyman Henderson who just had that interception and we're going to see it had it be something that he did out of bounds it was with Everson wall number 24 I'm the Cowboys [Applause] so in addition to a good return by Martin they get an extra few yards because of the penalty it'll be first and ten Cowboys at the Minnesota nineteen 651 left to play in the first half Vikings leading [Applause] behind Danny white [Applause] Herschel Walker spun around there you see how those pads are how they go all the way down below the three into four that's what he does he tries to give the front of the pads and then when he spins watch when he spins here at the end he wants him to hit starting right there the back of the pads because he said they'll bounce off my front but they'll bounce off the back of me too he's running back to uses in front and his back person goal from the seven [Applause] again it's joy browner who is tackled Hershel Walker on his last two carries when a difference of quarter makes the first quarter Minister had 117 yards only for in the second quarter course the lead went with that and then Dallas came back in the second quarter and if they get their points are conveyed a tie score with Dallas wins second quarter in the Vikings were in the first quarter second and goal from the [Applause] in the backfield now is duck Martin and Herschel never had a chance a loss of four he didn't have a chance but he made a great move on Doug Martin out Doug Martin was a defensive left end and he came shooting in the backfield now watch out he gets across here there's Martin and how Walker makes him miss and gets away from that I have no idea it didn't do him any good but it was a nice set limp leg they call that a limp leg there were two more Vikings right on the same third and goal from the 9 [Applause] sent a Pharisee with and he got hit in the back just as the ball got there we'll be against number fifty-four Jesse Solomon number fifty-four defensive pass interference [Applause] do like a visit in and then go out watch 54 right here in the left to the screen see Barksdale was pivoting then he was going to the outside it looked like Solomon hit him just before the ball got there where's there's too many of those penalties I don't agree with all these these pass interference ken was forgetting you gotta let the guys fly first and goal from the 6 o'clock be on the [Music] - Walker Diaz hit again in the backfield by dolmen and Studwell before he ever got close to the line of scrimmage Jerry Burns has done an outstanding job with this team you know in the during the strike they lost all three of their games they probably had the worst the worst replacement team in the lake but other than that they were six and one with their regular players Dallas takes this time out they have to left with four minutes and eight seconds left to play in the first half and the Minnesota Vikings leading the Cowboys 14-7 they take some freshman sensation Emmitt Smith in Florida and the Gators all this Saturday second and goal with Martin was the first man to hit Herschel we got two yards but didn't get in the end zone Vikings are playing very well down here in the goal line Cowboys are trying to get in behind those big guys again that Crawford curve Kevin Cogan big 315 pounds tackle let's say Doug Martin is just slip for them and get beyond demand getting penetration [Applause] good matchup here like 315 [Applause] touchdown pass [Applause] Walker's about 70% of his cowboy offense today both running and receiving there they put him in a slide just to have him running out pattern and get him to ball the Cowboys are going to win and move the ball it has to be reversed [Applause] first receiving touchdown of the year for sighs it up at 15 [Applause] 3:24 left to play in the first half in the cowboy with the Minnesota Vikings [Applause] Minnesota 14 Dallas 14 Pat Summerall with John Madden 3:24 left to play on the first half Cowboys have just tied it up there's bill Bates we were wondering why he wasn't playing defense a minute ago now he's on the kickoff coverage team say if I were a betting man on this Thanksgiving Day I would bet that he's the first guy down there but also but he's not the fastest guy of those guys but he'll be the first guy and he'll be involved in the tackle he has one glove on one glove off the nose which handy short kick by ruzek taken by Google [Applause] in a hurry a 10-yard return taught Fowler was the first man to hit Gugu most it wasn't bill but you know someone's gonna be the first guy well they're gonna have another chance I think they were offside oh you know that's gonna I was gonna be a penalty 26 kicking team offsides five-yard every kick 26 Michael down Cowboys are one of the few teams that use their regular starters either offensively or defensively special teams you know a lot of coaches just give special teams the talk you know they say that special teams are equally as important as the offense and defense but they don't give them time in the meetings and they don't give them the best players and all that but the Cowboys as you say is one of those teams that always have you've given it special emphases and also giving it the best player this time they'll have to do it from their own 30 yard line Herschel Walker over on the sideline nothing physically wrong look at those shoulder pads I mean those pads go from his shoulders to his waist I bet Bates is the first guy down this bruising kick this time goes to the left [Applause] the one-yard line they have the option under the new roof to either make up kick again or bring it out to the 35 you can see the way they're all running of course you cloud out of bounds ball will replace 30 yards from the kick first down you know that that's the thing that they're going to do is take it there hillarie kick after free kick out of bounds the ball has spotted 30 yards from the kicking point remember they had been penalized back to the 30 so the Vikings will start at their own 40-yard got all that - just keep picking the ball [Music] [Applause] but a good game the 16-yard pickup on the reverse and the Vikings move into Dallas territory with 254 and the clock running in the first half that's a good play you usually see reverses are run to wide receivers are slot back that one was run to the full-back that's a lot like Gill Statue of Liberty remember that except they don't put the ball over their head [Applause] pressure makes the cat down by towns for the gain of nine you wonder why they wet the field down to see how the the field is wet there you can see the wet spots and the dry spots then you wonder how a guy like Downs can get a good slide like that you see he had like eight yards after he made that tank reanimate yards fly Raymer hurrying trying to get the play off before the two-minute warning and he did no I did the clock got down to two minutes before they can hit the play on their way and so that's where we'll stop now both teams have two timeouts remaining in the first half and we're tied at 14 two minutes remain in the murse half the Vikings and Cowboys in a crucial battle tied at 14 both have two timeouts remaining Vikings have the ball at the Dallas 36 [Applause] we're cupcake [Applause] fly everywhere Amberson walls bought the fake bird from Anthony Carter and he was gone for six and he didn't grab it Everson walls had to do that he knew because there was going to be a pump fake and up or an out out and up or a hook and go and walls he started to get by him he just grabbed him defensive holding on number 24 [Applause] let's watch it out here it's right here you get here and then he's going to go up and get here wall season takes the bite can't recover so he just grabs them there watch the outside will say to move he starts to fall down that's why he did it he fell down realized he couldn't cover him I can't cover my better grab Oh [Applause] and Randy white I believe [Applause] swarm around it you don't see this a lot but block guard here that doesn't blitz a lot and when he does when he comes then they don't account for him because they have to get everything else blocked here so they have the Blitz coming here Lockhart right up the middle when Kramer goes to step up that's always safe but the center pulls out to block the outside linebacker and that's what freed Lockhart [Applause] second down and 16 the ball back at the 37-yard [Applause] tenet for Darren Nelson complain yeah Jones put a little pressure on Kramer see what the Cowboys do is they like to stop beyond first down then they go into that forw defense and you can see they bring in three defensive backs take out all three of their linebackers so they got and then they give him the four odisha third and 16 [Applause] the ball [Applause] when you have a guy like Anthony Carter you can throw in [Applause] Ron Frances he's there he's going to be he's going to have help in behind them but that doesn't get there and that was a great catch that was the throw that we're only Carter could get it Francis could [Applause] from Tommy Cramer from 37 yards out the Vikings take the lead again looked like he had to move his head to let it come in over his shoulder the extra point with Greg Coleman holding makes it Minnesota 21 then at 12 left in the first half [Applause] let's watch Anthony Carter on that again he's going to be here on Ron Francis he gets them gets Francis to the inside then he makes the corner move on him before Michael downs is going to help he can't get over he gets Francis burned around makes a good move and goes to the corner see Francis is off because Carter has great speed so he gives him a cushion but Gardiner has the speed to break down that cushion you see where he turned Francis turned him perfect throw downs couldn't get over there right there when Frances got inside then he went with a turn that was the thing that beat him and downs just didn't have the speed to get over the free safety he was watching Carter all the way and didn't get there when you have a guy like Carter and a guy like crane were throwing when he's on you can still be a double cover so Nelson set to kick off in the direction of Martin and Darryl clack [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sylva trying to get them apart there's some good part - yeah hitman parkus who the turkey is look at Joey browner there he was found in his fist to talk [Laughter] [Applause] to the head on Thanksgiving Day with the head having a helmet on it Jessie PIM whereas the corporate if you were going to slug what's 59 right there that's Jesse pin well that's in a blocking motion now now there's the slug but if you're going to select someplace you select a place it has lava facemask any white out of the spread [Applause] screen passes to Walker and here's another flag down on the play [Applause] Oh got away from Walker the penalty market do like Kevin Cogan got in there and got it yep but he just brought it out of there number 66 there's also another penalty against the Cowboys [Applause] when you when you weigh 315 pounds and you jump on a fumble you're lucky the ball comes out still has some air in it it might not play with that ball anymore today [Applause] now boys push further back they're 100 in first panel bait that's the most in the NFL and a couple of times that's really kill them that's one thing that you don't expect from a Tom Landry Price team or from the Dallas Cowboys which of course is one of the same but to lead the league in penalty first in 17 the ball back at the 6p Minnesota Lee Walker gets just mark was not fooled now the Vikings start calling timeouts well they should because now they can see that the Cowboys are really backed up and they're just going to run out the clock and the Vikings want to get it have another shot and they still have one timeout after them don't forget that the half Brent nerve and a live interview with Jimmy Johnson the head coach at Miami University and Lou Holtz both are live and Brett will be chatting with him at the half right here it's 2114 with Minnesota leading Dallas [Music] coaches what good didn't they they were looked like you were cleaned up have a tie on [Music] happy not to be playing today to wait till Saturday [Music] 50 seconds left to play in the first half [Music] Dallas ball huddle in their own end zone 2114 the Vikings lead it they have one more time a twin [Applause] lady white back in the spread formation [Applause] [Music] there were some bangs out to about the 15 Neil Guggenmos stopped him after a pickup of nine and Minnesota uses their last time out that was a big play for the Cowboys because they got the ball out to the 15 so now their punter is going to have room we still have that rule where you can fair catch and then get a free kick but I think that play I think that put them out of that area so we're not going to get it so the Cowboys still have a third down coming up another play Minnesota has no more timeouts third down coming up seven for the first or the ball at the 16 2114 the Vikings leave I think this would have to be a a running play because we're the Vikings not having anymore timeout they could probably just have one more play here and be able to run out the clock without having to Punk even the Vikings and is blocking it or to punt return into the spread formation again [Applause] Jesse Solomon we picked up nine another very important play well the Cowboys are going for it now I think Tom Landrus is with a first down the Cowboys now have two timeouts remaining so if he can get another couple plays he may get a shot at a field goal here before half-time you know yesterday and the Tom Landry in the Cowboys you just got the feeling of urgency that this is really a championship game for them well with their playoff hopes pretty much resting on what happens here today [Applause] the clock Joey Brenner covering him he only got three arms that's the thing they have to get the ball up the field you realize all this stuff they've done there's still hundred a 30-yard line it seems like they're getting something done but they still got a lot to do well from here it'd be an 87-yard that's a lot to do [Applause] second at seven slipped out of Danny white man [Applause] complete fast if it fell out and they've thrown that a fumble that's one of the problems he has there's no wind the fall leaves the fan [Applause] he's bringing it back and the ball goes out the back side could have been hit there by Chris Coleman could have been but it also looks like it just slips out I slip down he just flipped out and ripped out the back end turn that one went as the back end on 23 seconds left to play in the first half [Applause] Brooklyn throws it away [Applause] black comes flying it has to be call against Brooks [Applause] here Brooks do that's that comic Kramer threw the ball away [Applause] unless they review it is going to be just that [Applause] I think there could be another flag there they're doing a lot of pointing after all point it's a good news the bad news is they're all pointing to different places Tommy Dreamer conversation with Brett Silva intentional grounding [Applause] what do you want him to do get killed if the guy has to be able to throw the ball away what's Brooks chasing him here what do you want him to do just stand there and hold that thing like that then be thrown into the ground Ramar over the 48-yard field goal mound for the with 17 seconds remaining [Music] there's the effort williams around the corner is the cowboy who got close deflected just wide left when the Cowboys take over with 11 seconds left to play in the first half trailing 2114 [Applause] Newsom [Applause] that's the end of the first half with the score Minnesota Vikings 21 the Dallas Cowboys 14 [Music] CBS Sports coverage of the National Football League is sponsored by Subaru and the new Subaru xt6 the sport magazine Super Bowl MVP award Budweiser beechwood aged for that clean crisp taste this Bud's for you and by citizen no other watch expresses time more beautifully a me against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame 3:30 Eastern Time and look who's with us live now the two fine coaches Lou Holtz another Dame on the right and Jimmie Johnson Lou Newerth there two years ago it was 58 seven in favor of Johnson's hurricanes is this a revenge bowl for Notre Dame how do you look at that Chris I I don't I just don't believe a good Christian school like Notre Dame would ever want revenge I don't see any reason for us to have revenge if Miami and bears Notre Dame then it was our fault we have a great institution we have a lot of pride and it's up to us to play exceptionally well against to find Miami team yeah Jimmy young two years ago did you run the score up on the Fighting Irish no Brandon really I was surprised when that question was asked of me after the game we played all second third teamer czar throughout the third and fourth quarter and the only thing we did is we ran our offense and we were passing offense our second team quarterback did throw four passes hey Lou you look a lot warmer down there go down right after last Saturday Chris I I'm going to tell you I've been in a lot of different places I have never been that cold in my entire life the windchill factor was minus 25 below and the wind was about 3035 miles an hour on a consistent basis said it's nice to be down here in Miami because at least the winds blown but it is warm yeah Jimmy your team ranked up there now a chance to win a national championship you have to get past Notre Dame's South Carolina and then Oklahoma the last two games you've been somewhat sluggish now have you been sandbagging not showing coach Schultz everything on a game film now what do you been doing down there for two weeks well everybody's been accusing me of running up the score so I've tried like the dickens to keep the score down I'll try to keep it close for everybody you know as somebody who's quoted as saying that you've played a bunch of nobodies I don't know where you got that quote Jimmy seems like I heard that from a fella national television nobodies - one I gotta give Florida State a lot of credit but truthfully the heart of your schedule is ahead of you right Jimmy well without question we had an unusual schedule I I think if you'd have spread those teams out no one would have said anything about an easy schedule but when you open up the season with Florida and then Arkansas and in Florida State and you finished with Notre Dame in South Carolina that's a difficult schedule now Notre Dame's had an even more difficult schedule yeah I think the Irish lose certainly have had the toughest schedule of the year of any major college tell me now how the kids bounced back after last Saturday's disappointment you went right down to the two-point conversion failed are they gonna be ready for Miami your view of that well the loss was probably disappointing as anything we've been associated with Bream but I'm not concerned at all about our football team playing exceptionally hard the our team will play very hard - in Terry 60 minutes how good are we really aren't a great football team I think Miami is a great football team because they're outstanding on defense I think that's where you want a national championship I think that's where it all starts their well-rounded teeming throw the ball they can run the ball we have a problem the fact that we can't put much pressure on the passer and we have a problem because we can't pass the football so you know but I know I won't say that when you go through and he talked about this guys if we open up with Michigan Michigan State and in a row go bustard college Alabama Penn State Miami Florida we have great respect for Miami but we aren't going to be awed by anybody including Chicago Bears Jimmy you better get a few priests from Miami to stand on your sideline okay I've planned the crime the Blues all right Jimmy and Luke both of you good luck we'll see it out of Miami thank you for having the doubleheader don't miss it folks known for David Miami and we will continue we'll take a look at today's NFL activities right after these messages from your local stations this holiday weekend nobody's got more football excitement than CBS Sports tomorrow two teams in pursuit of a major foe bid Alabama baffles Auburn Saturday 3rd ranked Florida State faces Florida then a flash of light snow today in collides with second ranked Miami and Sunday two old rivalries ignite the NFL sub takes on the Bears then the Giants travel the Redskins it's a holiday weekend of champions on CBS Sports [Music] no like you were sitting back and enjoying the Minnesota Vikings in the Dallas Cowboys good football game Vikes lead it by seven great catch by Anthony Carter wasn't it now earlier today really there were two games played in Pontiac in the first half the Kansas City Chiefs dominated the Detroit Lions and then the Lions came back saying goodbye to coach Rodgers bill Kinney had his touchdown passes in the first half or he is - Jonathan Hayes from seven yards out it was seven oh and oh they sprung a leak there in Pontiac - and after that Kinney went to Paul Hoffman the former Packer 12 yard touchdown pass and it was 14 nothing before the Lions finally came back Bernhard taking the pitch there from Chuck long battling his way into the end zone he played defensively against Rogers and the Lions came here in the fourth quarter great hit there by Griffith and that stopped him in Kansas City one at 27 to 20 and Jimmy the Greek that into the Chiefs nine game losing streak that's true but you know what you made a statement about say goodbye to Rodgers you know William clay Ford is a very smart and brilliant man and you know and very warm-hearted you know he doesn't he doesn't fire people too quick well you know one of the reasons why I think that he's under fire is the fact that I've been told that he made an application for the USC coaching job last year and I don't think that's going to go down very well with the ownership of the Lions no whoa great you know as a matter of fact other teens are being banded around to Atlanta Cincinnati as well as Detroit those three teams people in the league are saying it might be coaching changes now the Cincinnati story even further it weren't Tony Dungy has been named as a possible head coaching candidate they're only a rumor they're big the Bengals deny it the Steelers deny it but the rumor has been just up forget about Glory's - all right now with the Raiders but right now it's time for the second half let's send you back to Pat Summerall and Big John Madden Pat take it away all right Brennan I think if you were with us at the beginning of the show one of the key things that john madden felt was that the Cowboys are gonna be successful they have to utilize that many talents of Herschel Walker wait well you know they really don't have any speed on the outside and Herschel Walker is their speed guy so if they're gonna win they have to get the ball to him and they have to move him around and just look at the different places that he's lined up he was a wide receiver for eight plays out there he was in the slot for three plays and he was at the wing for five plays to pull back for three plays and the tailback for 22 plays so they don't want the defense to know where he's going to be well let's don't forget about the who's winning the game that's right and then you see what he did from those positions you see from wide receiver he had 25 yards running on a reverse 29 yards passing and then you see his rushing yards from the different positions the Minnesota offense now Tommy Cramer 9 out of 17 for 123 yards two touchdowns both the Anthony Carter so the key has been the success of Kramer - Anthony Carter [Music] CBS Sports coverage of the National Football League is sponsored by Ford and your Ford dealer have you driven a Ford lately mci and by John Hancock financial services real-life real answers [Music] [Applause] some are all John Madden were set to start the second half here at Texas Stadium Giroux section kickoff [Applause] 22 by Steve deeossie Everson Wars 2114 I totally watch bill Bates go down there you know sometimes you rush down there and it's not too much fun once she gets by this fog but watch what's up next it's what they call the wedge it's just four or five guys and they knocked right back for a game from being [Applause] like in quarterback [Applause] [Music] Frances let the defensive play this is where Tommy Cramer did in the first half you see under 10 yards he was 4 for 10 he's not a big short passer then you look 10 to 20 yards get up the field for 4-5 448 yard over to 21 to 30 and of course 1 for 1 so the big thing was primer is he was able to get the ball to a speed guy Anthony Carter and 2 touchdown three catches Carter head the ball back at the 17th [Music] [Applause] the way by Francis Kevin for Anthony Carter good defensive play you notice that most of the time the Vikings are going to work the guys are going to work on of course you're going to Anthony Carter but they're also trying to work on the rookie Ron Francis oh I think is a real good cornerback in this leg and someday is going to be a top one when you're a rookie they're going to give you all the different look they always have [Music] word rookie makes him want to go to work on you [Applause] bro [Applause] tutto when he gets that thing going and get motoring he can put a lick onion the other end watch him again through when he starts outside then he comes back in he's coming right up in the lucky to get it out of there [Applause] Joey browner 38-yard punt 4 yard return Cowboys will take over at their own 48 [Music] Danny white chicken see from 1 to 10 yards 8 for 11 so most of his passes have been under 10 yards the 11 to 21 for 3 over 20 yards he has Dorsett in the back Hershel gets to the Viking 40 they're sitting around [Music] he is an amazing guy with with that size that Herschel Walker has and to be able to move it that quickly that's a pretty good package I don't think anybody thought John that he was going to turn out to be the receiver he's turned out to be great athlete like that even though he hasn't been a Racine you have a pretty good shot at [Applause] Studwell came out to make the stop [Music] the Vikings slow getting us Paul McDonald the third Dallas Cowboy quarterback signaling to play that's got velour on the left McDonald on the right line up on either side and then with everyone singing today you have to have more than one guy Sigma Walker split wide to the left this time said in the backfield nothing there for him or loss of one he's talking about Herschel Walker and the Cowboys now and Tony Dorsett it's kind of a forgotten man on this team and do you think of all the great years that he gave the Cowboys 11 years all the yardage that he's gained and passes he's caught the offenses now Herschel Walker's but for a long time was this game boy he was the guy you had to stop we do those games everyone say the first thing master [Applause] go away from the run the direction of river please that's a problem the Cowboys have is age whether it's the wide receivers and not getting open or the quarterback not being able to hit him they just can't get those big third down plays when they have to that's an element that's been missing since the heydays of Tony Hill and Drew Pearson well they have a guy but of course he broke his leg in training camp and that's Mike sure are they're sexist [Music] [Applause] couldn't quite get down there soon enough to bed it back in the Vikings will take over at the 20 good job by their defensive unit 2114 Minnesota Lee it begins next Sunday with the NFL today at 12:30 Eastern Time the first game of our doubleheader will be Green Bay at Chicago or Philadelphia New England New Orleans goes to Pittsburgh and st. Louis visits Atlanta and the second game the Giants will be at Washington that's where John Madden and I will be Danny Noonan as replace Randy white [Applause] to alfred anderson who broke away from kevin brooks who finally did manage to hang on and get him back Wade Wilson is now the quarterback for Minnesota they said that Tommy Kramer's neck is stiffening up and I think it's from that shot of too tall Jones remember the third down play let's run chat too-tall comes right up the middle here I watched the hit that he puts on Kramer anything he's going to put something your neck it's that kind of hit that would make you stiff enough wait Wilton to grow [Applause] by Carter gain of 19 well there's Wade Wilson he's had a lot of experience this year he's been playing a lot Tommy Cramer remember didn't come to training camp B he was in an alcohol rehabilitation center so Wade Wilson got to play then he missed the first two preseason games Wilson played then Kramer got hurt in the third preseason game that's where he had the first of the neck problem the Wade Wilson played so you cannot see a guy who hasn't play basically Kramer just had no training camp those problem three perhaps yep roar was one of the offender's mates Jeffcoat also there Wade Wilson said after last week's game Kramer was injured in last week's game he hurt his hand Wilson had to commit come in then they took him out and put in Rich Gannon and then they put Wilson back in and Wilson was saying you know the way things are going here you're always looking over your shoulder and you can't play quarterback that way you're afraid every play has to be perfect always been the case when they've ever [Applause] that's what you're blacking up front it's a trap play will see the black and a spring from the right guard pulls to the left in fact they double-team Jeffcoat that gave Darren Nelson just a chance to get through when he got through there he outruns everyone they got Danny Noonan blocked as well and as you said double-team Jeff go 27:14 and now [Applause] Nelson for the extra point [Applause] with Greg Coleman holding and it's 28 to 14 there's a trap there's a block on noonan that creates a hole and then here's the run by Nelson and that was some move that he made there 52-yard touchdown run by Darren Nelson which the Vikings back in front by 14 twenty-eight to 14 now the Vikings lead with 1034 left in the third quarter Nelson set to kickoff Darryl flakin Calvin Martin back deep for Dallas [Applause] we quack [Music] 23 yard return you don't see a lot of long runs of NFL so we look at it again we see the pull in the trap here [Music] and Darren Nelson just runs off that prep and makes a heck of a move on Michael down [Applause] : start a double-team come off everyone's block perfectly watches who [Applause] 52-yard touchdown with the ball bounce our own 31 he white still a quarter Jesse Solomon was the first man to hit him [Music] they're Nelson's day and Herschel Walker 61 yards rushing 47 yards receiving Nelson has outdone him again you know the interesting thing is you always know what you have to stop like Tom Lander said we have to stop their speed Anthony Carter and Darren Nelson it's easy to say on Wednesday Thanksgiving they do and all you can say is I told you so we knew what we had to do we just couldn't get it done takes the pass from Randy white a pickup from Danny white [Applause] ah Dallas first down watch Carlene number 39 the corner he is really sold that that balls going deep look at her he does a double clutch to get deep you're not going to get him you're not going to get him deep and then what happens you get your ball in front of him there's a good move by Barksdale work the Vikings is that Tommy Cramer has a bruise on his arm could come back if necessary [Applause] was the first man to hit Herschel make up of two bring up the second innate situation at the Minnesota 43 yard line minutes left to play in the third quarter the Vikings are hit by two touchdown 2814 [Applause] Chris Dolman just knifes in there look at him he's just taking an inside charge you see he gets his outside shoulder inside a Daryl Smith shoulder and then just drives those legs and keep going this handled the step that's Lilja now at Center Rafferty played most of the first half they've been alternating [Applause] [Music] amazing 28 yards Kelvin Edwards against Miami he got dehydrated and he couldn't play they had to take him out of the game fine later said he just got too excited and he wants him to be more relaxed because he thinks as he gets experience he can be that big play guy he stretched out for that one right at the end he never did regain his balance [Applause] the shooters out there in a hurry by Carl Lee they might have been an idea that walkers with a carry the ball well they have the idea is there and they're getting getting all over him he's having a tough time keeping his clothes on now you're looking like football the ways your place where the three in the floor stretched out and going different ways shirttails Hank and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] second and 11 [Applause] to come out again [Applause] [Applause] [Music] the thing is that again I think that's the coverage you watch it here Stafford Mays is going to be right there in the middle of the picture but Danny white was looking and at first he didn't have anyone open there was no one to throw to and then by the time he thought he could see someone of course the protection broke down 13 the ball back minutes left of life [Applause] Hershel bangs down to the 20 it'll bring up the court down a gain of nine Neal to commence the stop and music Minnesota defense has been tough I guess all runners nobody in fact this year's gained 100 yards against them they keep going like they're going it looks like that's going to stay intact ruzek 38 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good again hit the upright in [Applause] Minnesota leading I've always thought this kicking was easy look you start here and the right hash mark and you just kick it here over to this post now anyone can kick it straight through but it takes real talent they hit it here Bank it in the old bank shot so you started on the right hash mark kick it for the left post just like this and then you're going to hit the inside of it hit it right here Bank it here whap it into here and you get three points for it that does take Talent that's the way Willie Mosconi told me you do it so it's 28 17 Minnesota leading with 508 left third quarter [Music] at the six [Music] [Applause] tomorrow CBS sports continues this holiday weekend lineup great football when two Southeastern Conference rivals meet in a game that will have a major impact on the pole picture 18th ranked Alabama versus seventh ranked Auburn it's tomorrow live at 2:30 Eastern Time right here on CBS [Applause] most exciting runners and and and that's a record there's that that's the longest on Thanksgiving Day in the history of the lake [Applause] Nelson taken down by Randy white [Applause] maybe Elson asked to feel that one did you see her handle like he put out that right arm and that was a hook what's Randy white he's going to start get into his garden I watched him come down a line and watch this right arm that he puts on Darren Nelson then takes him man that was the end of the line [Applause] eight on a play second and ten [Applause] Wilson's back in the pocket incomplete in it for Carter deflected by Jeff roar [Applause] what they're doing is they're getting Ron Francis some help out there in the zone is they're getting their linebacker getting roared out there underneath because they know that they're directing most of the passes at Francis today 28:17 Minnesota leading rock now stopped before 16 left third for Brooks's out bread back to throw with time with the interception [Applause] the pocket to get some on him he'll fall death and as he did earlier and grab again but if you throw to money over there he's going to come up with the interception because one thing he has very good ability to cover but the other thing he can catch the ball great hand [Applause] messing with cowboy first down at the bank thirty-six and again Andy white still a quarterback [Applause] [Music] he was breaking a little push-off there let's see if we can started here's dog paws be here he's going to come up there across here and it looks about right here that he gets a little push just before he breaks open she starts in now he comes up now he's coming across he has good carbon cherry put [Applause] that's a captured one those in the six Cosby first the lying again by Chris Dolman say what there's something about that number 56 that means you better look out if Chris Dolman started out as one of those guys a linebacker like that Lawrence Taylor bold when they moved in the defensive end he didn't want it he says I don't want to be one of those guys who just run up the field I want to be a football player wifebeaters booked them into he started liking [Applause] right back to throw [Applause] covered by crisp Martin that's a tough pattern to run down there I'm surprised I ran it that's close because Cosby they ran an outing up to him and when you're down in that close you don't have that much area to run up after you run out so that'll bring up a third and goal from the 8 [Applause] Walker is foot-wide for the last Barksdale and rim to the right [Applause] right [Applause] and recorded in front of them [Applause] [Music] three teams left to play in the third [Music] Danny white with that touchdown pass to Renfro broke Roger Staubach's record for number of completions in a career [Applause] time to get it plays 36 yards 59 seconds interception by Everson law that'd be a great throw the Mike Renfro because he was double teams and Danny in their defense let's kick off [Applause] three to the 33 Michael Downs made the stop for return of 31 let's watch the touchdown again here's Mike Renfro he's going to run the post right here he's being doubled here and here here's goodness I have no idea what he's doing he just stands there flat-footed and he doesn't go for the ball but Danny white makes a good throw right in here [Applause] look as if he thought the ball was going to get there that quick bro medical plays Wade Wilson softeners run out of bounds by base [Applause] ramble for no game rooks got loose and flushed him out of the pocket this is a tough thing for a defensive back watch bill Bates here is it a pass or a run you see here you think it's pass pass pass you're playing a zone and now you realize the quarterbacks going to run with a ball so you go from playing pass defense to get up and force second down [Applause] 27:20 welcome back to throw [Applause] [Music] play this time [Music] [Applause] an interesting thing is Jim Jeff go watch this here's Jeff go here's Darren Nelson coming out for a pass Jeff goat sees them and grabs him here and that's who Wilson was trying to throw to but watch the defensive end he starts up the field i watch him turn right here we see Graham Nelson now Wade Wilson good [Applause] right at his face 30 their own 34 yard line pass out this time to Carter and he's yes he can and down a pickup of 20 in a Minnesota first down this time what they do is they put Nelson outside he goes in motion he gets outside of Carter on the left side and Carter becomes the inside guy and runs that corner pattern he's a good receiver Antho partner I like him but he has polls and speed and and fight the spirit animal all [Applause] where's the USFL is Fred Biletnikoff [Applause] go back across the field [Applause] well executed play 17-yard gain and other viking first down I'll tell you one thing he got a good block out here it was the centered Kirk Loudermilk got you know they they faked one way then they bring their Center out and Loudermilk is a guy that gets out watch what 63 do they faked them there now that come out now you get the tight end and your center one and watch quite loud enough he got that Danny Noonan Frances a rookie cornerback that they've been working on hurt his shoulder on the previous play and he's out place has been taken by Manny Hendricks of course they were working over there in their game plan on France Frances then when you get a substitute Hendrix was also a rookie then you're going to go to work on him [Applause] that second down Dallas 28 Wilson [Applause] Hendriks the defender and a flag on the play [Applause] these they're going to work there anyway then they see Hendrix come in and they just go to work on Carter see now he started made an out pattern and then he came back a little that was a heck of a catch the thing is the ball was out of bounds number 73 illig's used to the hands to the face five yards and more importantly a first down there's a big strong guy benchpress is over 500 pounds that Danny Noonan and he has a tough time keeping all his parts in the soup Landry says his future is all equivalent yes bulbs is all over [Applause] [Music] [Applause] J Anderson who's nudges it inside the Dallas quarry stop by Lockhart we got five this is a big pride [Applause] Wilson already over to the sideline a talk with the offensive coordinators that's the end of the third quarter twenty-eight Dallas 24 [Applause] [Music] CBS Sports coverage of the National Football League is sponsored by Sears where there's more for your life under maker of the Civic hatchback by prudential bates securities rock-solid market why [Music] against Dallas [Applause] four yards it'll bring up third and one and I think right now is where the Cowboys start playing with that urgency because we said yesterday you could just feel it that you know you can always say mathematically you can do this you can do that but I think they all feel that if they don't win today but they don't have a chance for the playoff [Applause] short of the first down and the Vikings will have to go to the field gold CIC was the man who made the hit watch this defense earned his white shirts coming down the line coming down like making the cutback forcing them into the cutback and then everyone just scraping off that thing a lot of bodies being hurled in there Coleman will hold Elson to try the field goal [Applause] dick is good by Chuck Nelson [Applause] so now with 1333 left to play it's Minnesota 31 Dallas 24 Cowboys have gotten 14 points off turnovers Darren Nelson has a hundred and seventeen total yards for the Vikings and Danny white has thrown for two touchdowns in 164 yards getting set for the Minnesota kickoff John what sort of philosophy to the catalysis Cowboys have now on well I think that was a big defensive series by him there because when they were able to hold off the touchdown now they were four points down and they needed a touchdown now because they held still only needed touchdown to tie but the Cowboys have to think have to think in terms of one score coming up with a tie then going for the way of course the Vikings right when you get that seven-point lead you just want to get all over these guys that's what they've been doing very well on defense they've held Herschel Walker and Tony Dorsett [Applause] Timmy Newsome who gets it back to the 35 turn Danny white returns 13:26 left to play 3124 Minnesota leaves Dallas toward such a big part of this football today is a crowd I think right now with the Vikings want to do by swarming and not letting them get anything out of here they can quiet this crowd this place really jumped [Applause] for some place to go and fighting a little bit of room and he picks up five before Jessie Solomon stopped throw in the game big was 55 degrees but not bad at all I wonder win these people to come to a three o'clock game I wonder when they eat Thanksgiving dinner must be a night deal huh that or it's a breakfast [Applause] you got a turkey going to bus go to Washington one wait after the game [Applause] back into that turkey sturdy right back to throw protection for a while Martin finally breaks it down that's the sixth Danny white there was interesting Doug Martin said that he really wanted to beat the Cowboys that because it's such a big game he said but also because of the strike he felt that during the strike too many of the Cowboys came back in the Vikings didn't have any players come in and he said we'd like to beat him just because it's a game but we'd like to beat him for the strike I don't know him he's playing pretty well yes he is sometimes I talked before the game and they're always doing third and 13 some lingering memory [Applause] white gets it to Newsome it won't be enough for a first down they left to punt they picked up seven he did well to get anything out of it Jesse Solomon made the stop on new simple I was said the Viking defense had to go after and get all over him and they were all over Danny white on that play [Applause] that was a defensive series at that time that the Vikings needed Saxon will putt now with [Music] Vikings up by a touchdown [Applause] boys are down in a hurry yes lieutenant bill Bates Minnesota takes over after a 32-yard punt by section 11 24 left deployed now especially now you need an investment firm that is wrong this will be Thanksgiving John Madden style as they head right after the game to Washington where our game is Sunday Willie Arbor the driver and as you go back to the luxurious area there's the bird that's the brick you see what's sitting right beside the bird there's a football that's dessert that's right and we're going from here to Washington for the giant game those the only two things you need is a turkey to eat the football [Applause] chased down by Eugene Lockhart picked up eight yards nevertheless [Music] over there on Daryl Smith yeah he's the of course it is blocking Chris Dolman today and I think he he really did a pretty good job he's the one it took mark to Enosh place after only one or two plays as you say he's done a good job for a rookie to have to commit a game like this and then play against a guy like golden [Applause] second down enough for a first day on the gain of five by finis Stanny white over on the phone from the Dallas bench talking with the offensive coordinator Paul Hackett I know it they're talking about probably probably to get the ball to Herschel Walker and probably some first down passing of course you you know talk about all the situations you're talking about what you do on first down when you do your next long yardage what you do with next goal line touchdown first 10 Viking now under chin that in the quarterback [Applause] has made some dramatic catches today that's the latest one he can get up in the air and turn his body in fact he looked like that by like he still can't believe it look good baby because you wanted to touchdown do but watch his throw and watch Anthony Carter get positioned get up in the air keep everson walls to his back and still catch that ball look at the pocket here now the way Wade Wilson because he has good fast protection he can step up and because he can step up he can get full velocity on the ball but it's great to have an Anthony Carter on the other end of it Carter's caught six passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns first and goal at the 1 [Applause] well I think they could be looking at that and maybe he maybe that's another touchdown let's say here he is right here just against walls he comes down here right up there good pass protection in the middle and again that's the thing that lets Wade Wilson step up watch Carter out here he gets outside of him now he just runs beyond him Wade Wilson because he can step up can lead him out to the front of them and I don't know how the official comes up with spotting the ball there they're reviewing in the replay booth whether it's touchdown or whether it's where they spotted it well Anthony Carter has already had two touchdowns today now it's after he's he's touched and after he catches the ball if he does you buy instant replay the play was ruled head in the booth on the three yard line [Applause] is that Everson walls touched him when he had the ball on the three yard line so he went to the ground as a result of the contact [Applause] you see number 72 David Hoffman come over that ply he hit everson walls and knocked him about eight yards in the endzone there it is right at the top of the spring watch him he just jumps right over his guy walls his standing there and he sees a purple jersey come flying at him tough series for Everson wall [Applause] aside from a yard out you have to give that touchdown to Wade Wilson and Anthony Carter there pass protection here they get it in watch good drive blocking on that left side there is a little penetration but friend he's able to get outside that penetration and find a soft spot outside guys big enough until they remember guards were that big 240 pounds [Applause] Goldman holding Nelson for the extra point thirty-eight [Applause] 24 remaining at Texas Stadium both teams have all three timeouts remaining but Minnesota in command worked both pictures will be Alabama against Auburn Auburn ranked seventh that's tomorrow live at 2:30 Eastern Time here on CBS Minnesota 38 Dallas 24 with 824 left to play he's trying to shut the door--and ensure playoff spot for themselves and the Cowboys desperately hoping they can and maybe keep their hopes alive [Music] Martin had an ally almost broken returned at 20 but they'll bring it all back you realize these Vikings with with six and one with their regular players you wonder had there not been a strike if where they would be I mean would they be the best record in the air personal foul go to the head 15 yards in this spot [Applause] Jessie pinned twice with the blows to the head now that's the same thing I think I think what he was thinking you know the first time we saw him do that he was just playing off a block and then the second time he hit to the head I don't know if this is the same type of thing where you play off your block on the shoulders then you get up to the head so its first in ten Cowboys at their own 12 yard line 8:15 left to play Center [Music] again that's a new center there's George lilja in there he's he's a bigger guy than time went after him he's been playing more and more as a sailor usually they used Lil Jon to run downs and they bring Rafferty in on the pass down to the shotgun down get a different center with a quarterback then you're going to have Saxe three hurries one knockdown forced to fumble [Applause] it's been intercepted one time so they [Applause] intercepted [Applause] there's a player Joey Brown or I think that when you talk to to the Viking coaches and players and so on that they feel that this guy could very well be the best player in their team I mean he's their pro ball player and and and their defense as a safety he's an impact player tremendous strength in his hands and arms [Applause] thirteen from the nine [Applause] Mike Renfro by Isaac vote good effort by Renfro there was something by renfro the way he went up in the air because Isaac Holt was right there with him watch and his Holtz couldn't come in there the ball goes up in the air Holt's there the balls there and you talk about having strong hands Renfro get up there just pluck that thing right out of the air yes said this is going to be his last year [Applause] Danny white back to throw Barksdale the 47 is running with 645 now remaining the Cowboys are going to have receivers they'll lose Mike rental Renfro as Tom Landry said about Barksdale that he has all the talent but it's just an inexperienced guy and it's going to be time they could get Mike sherrard back yesterday as a and a metal blade in there he still has to have surgery to have the plate taken out first down Cowboys [Applause] Hershel Walker [Applause] quite just as he let it go number 24 is Lyman Henderson he's really running stride for stride with him but when he looks back at the ball he loses his step and that's when Herschel Walker caught it that was a pretty good throw let him away from the defender everything just inside the ten-yard line it will be first and goal from there 6:14 left to play cowboys and lacking [Applause] completely this guy is a one-man gang is that you look at rushing yards say yeah but he didn't gain a hundred yards but when you add up both of those you know that's it that's a full day's work when the guy can make 160 and then you know if this thing keeps going he can have a couple hundred yards second down just inside the chin [Applause] boy back to throw throw touchdown that drag it back out of the ends [Applause] dragging Renfro [Applause] worried from pulled him back out of the end zone the cowboy offensive team swarming down to the goal line [Applause] it's Renfro Renfro breaks the plane there while she plays over Joey Brown and picks them up carries them back out and dumps them back outside renfro's the first guy up in there let's explain a talk over unsportsmanlike conduct on the defense all against the defense against Joey browner [Music] we said it was strong you say just picked up Mike Renfro by the seat of the pants just world him right out of the ends of day what to John when the Cowboys got there he didn't back away to give eight points for a play like that Renfro should for six when you drive-in [Music] that would change the complexion of the game [Applause] like a linebacker [Applause] the extra point is good 38:31 now here it is again that ball across the plane and look he thinks it's all over like a whirling dervish [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] offered curve trying to finish things off that so we're all here with John Madden we're at Texas Stadium the score is Minnesota 38 Dallas now 31 penalty will be given a Dallas on the kickoff so they'll kick off from the 50-yard line 6:04 left to play both teams have both all their timeouts remaining this is a time if there were less time to go this would be a good time for an onside kick but I think with the time that we have remaining here I don't know that you would want to take that chance they're plotting something bruza Canton come out yet he's still over talking with Tom Landry they never seen wall see what happens so you're kicking off from the 50 so if you're trying on sidekick and don't make it they'll get the ball and afford it so if you kick it into the endzone and down they're probably going to get it under 20 anyway so what you're doing is you're gambling 20 yards of field position for the opportunity to get the ball right [Applause] looking at the Viking return team one of the guys in their front line as the third quarterback Rich Gannon don't see that for real [Applause] it catches the kickoff [Applause] Rice's I mean we did it well you can do that thinkin the conference was going to get down here catch the kickoff [Applause] back at quarterback Nelson for a gain of I just checked the intensity meter here in the level in this fourth quarter has gone up 22 decibels can you draw that [Applause] [Applause] [Music] on the tackle [Applause] this is a tough position for the Vikings because you're backed up you would like to get out and get some first downs but you don't want to open can't afford to turn over here [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] a little 2/10 and that's for tenseness shows up their quarterback not in the long ones but in the short pass [Applause] right at the goal line Kelvin Martin back deep set up to return and this it's back to the 48 Joey browner to make this stop on the return and a return of five by Marco long after that change of possession with 4/20 [Music] Andrea's been talking about infotainment is just this get them hold them on defense get good field position that we have plenty of time for minutes 23 seconds is important we need to touch them [Applause] Dorsett as the lone setback [Applause] [Music] now continues to run the other thing you realize here is that you're in a four down area because I think once you're inside 250 you're probably not going to punt the ball anymore when you're down by 7 so you're thinking in terms of four downs to get a curve second date [Applause] the notion about a yard Chris Dolman brought him down I think Newsome made one cut in there that he wished the end because he looked like Eddie turned it up the first time he could have gotten the first down [Music] they bring Tom Rafferty back in there they want to make sure of that smell [Applause] pick up the late Clarksdale was going to come all the way across from left to right anyway it's looking he sees Barksdale he can lead him to the outside Barksdale has that good speed but he couldn't get past [Applause] football high school or college so as we watch FIFA he's getting the script learn getting some of that experience first down Dallas at the Minnesota 26 [Applause] or clock down Isak Freeman made a stop on Newton give me nuisance of type of guy you always tend to forget there's Herschel Walker Herschel Herschel Walker in the backfield or Tony Dorsett and all in there's Newsome always a phobic where every game second down to play touchdown [Applause] [Music] third touchdown catch of the day music [Music] at 38 [Applause] the end of the plane what Renfro did let's watch it again and see who is the closest guy to Danny writes look at the Westbury Walker he finds Renfro I watched his fight Joey browner you quit me is the end zone won't be out [Music] he's going to come here garbage and coroner's phase-out and he's quite open in this area everywhere he is that go and they double Herschel Walker back here what happened to isaac hope [Music] safety goes Herschel Walker that leaves Renfro right [Applause] why this place for 304 yards and for touchdown Sarita Renfro one to Walker and he scored the other one himself [Applause] ruzek to kick off the old government [Applause] [Applause] the man who took the kickoff from ruzek puts the Vikings not in bad shape Ron Burton [Music] playoff picture is always complicated right now it's 38 38 [Applause] who are watching with it [Applause] Minnesota back to throw [Applause] - complete Louis made the reception a gain of 22 and they get into Dallas territory that's the two-minute mourning act morning actually it's a minute from 54 seconds and the Vikings just trying to get in field goal range and then the CBS Sunday movie dr2 the conclusion of two parts he is an Academy Award winning best victor starring that's tonight on CBS [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] every time [Applause] we ever bring him on a plinth but when Jeff waters also coming usually when la cartes in there they don't you see the Sailor is coming out again to block the outside linebacker now where they're Lockhart read that [Music] [Applause] the Darren Nelson Hubbard by Mike Hickman the gain of five and he gets out of vans to stop the clock with 114 remaining [Applause] the minister on a evidently did not get out of out so they had to burn a timeout [Music] 38:38 to see new producer the NFL on CBS is Charles Milton this game reduce so capably by Bob sinner Robert directed by sandy Grossman on the rest of our group [Applause] we like to work on holidays I'd say it sure is something to you know have all the guys and then we really have our Thanksgiving the the night before like we did last night and that's always one of the things we look forward to each year with all these guys who who are really the tops plus they all make speeches well that's good too [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] gets it back up the feelings Randy white limps off the field [Applause] bunch of near wall going that they have that stunt work out the ends work in watch Randy white take off he gives Wade Wilson a pop and as he does look like he gave his right ankle a pop [Applause] this is good [Applause] [Music] to the end zone Randy white according to his right knee [Applause] it looked like it happened just as he went to make that hit on Wade Wilson just with the problem something popped like he stepped on his other foot something you know I can smell an overtime mixed in with that turkey smell that's that good aroma you talked about a couple of weeks ago there was a whiff from the air [Applause] 56 seconds left to play all of their own for three other came out survey [Music] [Applause] that's coming law for a week and the Vikings watch that film they played Monday night the Cowboys against Miami didn't complete a pass to a wide receiver the Vikings are probably thinking hey they don't even throw to those guys d'etre single way John Tom Landry said the Cowboys have been playing this game so long how they prepare he said we prepare for 10 days weeks ago they have coaches working on the game plan so the ready after his funny night bounds incomplete but Renfro is the nearest cowboy there just didn't have time to get it to him that was a good pass roast right if I could because Bren fro just stopped was standing on the sidelines wide open 38:38 with 47 seconds left to play that's a little different from last week though yeah and that's just the second half when the second half they came at me through 11 times to the wide receiver we're still don't go much to the tight end second and ten [Music] [Applause] [Music] did not get the first down Isaac hope knocked him out of bounds after a gain of five third down and five at the 38 there's Nate Newton you know he was coming in started having this great year in training camp in the beginning of the season Jimmer came back to new offensive linemen thought he was really doing well he got hurt in that giant game remember during the strike he had a scope arthroscopic surgery he's come back he's playing city was their best line started the season biking quits intercepted [Applause] take over once I say cold you and he gets the jump and get the ball right at the end of his fingertip forget the coverage that's a great catch does he have both feet inbound [Applause] one equals two faith or whatever whatever part of the anatomy [Applause] Vikings have two timeouts remaining Dallas now takes one and they only have two left of course what Dallas is defending now is a field goal and that's what the Vikings are going for they need they need about a completion of about 12 to 15 yards to get in that field goal range Tommy creamers started at quarterback for the Vikings hurt his arm has taken over Nelson as a career long field goal of 53 yards John Madden said they need completion of about 15 to get him in that brain [Music] forget coming up Sunday here on CBS the NFL here is our doubleheader schedule Green Bay against Chicago Philadelphia New England New Orleans Pittsburgh st. Louis Atlanta those of the early Washington or the rich games for the giant [Applause] most picked off as it stopped his hands Frances second attempt it's interesting that the Cowboys have flipped from there for old defense very little bring that huddle there they have a separate huddle for the defensive backs and linebackers in a separate huddle for the linemen [Applause] I can attend the ball at the 48 is back in the game [Music] [Applause] - Anderson by Kevin Brooks a loss of two Minnesota one way I think they were trying to fool him they're thinking that they would get the Cowboys in that big pass-rush and they'd be able to slip Anderson right by him where's Kevin Brooks was on her brush and he just went right into him I think I don't know about that call you know it's easy to second-guess and say you wouldn't have done it but if I were at the 50 and I had two shots a second down shot in a third down shot I would want to both to be the forward pass not fooling them now I think I would pass protect them and get back there and throw it because as I said the Cowboys really haven't been blitzing it's just a four-man rush Minnesota one timeout remaining Dallas - 25 seconds left 38 38 - school Andy white went over to talk to his coach Ernie [Applause] why to the left Louis and San Joan here's the throw [Applause] 18 seconds left to play a 22-yard pickup that one you have to give to the biking offensive line as I said before they have to get this past protection down they gave Wilson opportunity then he could run to his right a little and buy another opportunity and at the end of that he finds Leo Lewis wide open on the sidelines now they still have one timeout their clock has stopped now with 18 seconds left to play [Applause] 38:38 [Applause] is Alfred Anderson timeout Minnesota watch too tall Jones here he's starting that like he's going on to pass rusher he realizes it's not a pass so he works back down the line on the run defense I think they lost did they lose on that the I lost a yard that'll just make it one yard longer - Chuck Nelson Nelson's longest 53 yards out of timeouts Dallas still with two [Applause] should be about 45 46 yards away maybe [Applause] not a chip shot in a situation like this 46 yards [Applause] Landry was talking to it [Applause] nine seconds remain now will they just rent it out yeah I'm sure they will [Applause] and they'll take a three-minute [Applause] somebody to the bus to put the turkey back in the oven John [Applause] I think they go together Turkey and over time Thanksgiving they'll toss the coin a three minute break two timeouts per team it'll be a 15-minute period sudden-death the first floor wins it if they're still tied at the end of that 15-minute period going to books as a time [Applause] this is the corn [Applause] Vikings won the toss and Tommy Cramer didn't hesitate he wants the ball we'll take a little break and we'll be back for 15 minutes of overtime or until someone score 38 apiece you know there's always that argument that in sudden death if once the team that receives scores should the other team get the ball again and of course they didn't so everyone realizes when you get into sudden death when you get into overtime that the flip is a big deal [Applause] theoretically if the Vikings take the ball and move it they get a field goal that's the end of it in Dallas never gets a shot the short-waisted these guys have to be tired that coming into this game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the ball right back to him Michael Downs knocked him out of bounds last Thanksgiving game I did and overtime was in Detroit and they returned the kickoff all the way for a touchdown to win it that is something reason how that ball bounces up only on artificial turf that's his Thanksgiving Day present that bounce [Applause] Wilson the quarterback to throw outside taught by Carter in Dallas territory gain of nine or ten close to first down yardage Ron Francis on the coverage well you see Carter just beats him there with that quickness on the ad he gives them the stutter step then out and the thing you notice about Anthony Carter he always says that one step coming back to the ball [Applause] third touchdown would you though [Applause] - Rick Finney over the right side after a gain of four into Dallas territory to the 46 we're in overtime score tied 3838 we saw Ernie stunter talking to Michael downs there Michael downs as a guy who makes the calls in the secondary and the adjustments protection Pass is incomplete intended for Darren Nelson who was covered by Jeff Rohr I think when I get down now to second and third down I would try and find Anthony Carter again I know he's already caught seven passes working over there on that left side but if I had two shots second down I take second down and I throw it to Carter [Applause] [Applause] this completes the penny [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Oh and Aaron Nelson number 20 and is there to pick up a blitz but that would have been the game-winning play there I think Mike Hegman came on a blitz in the left side and Darren Nelson if they blitz he has to stay in there [Applause] Hackman right [Applause] as a man wide open any basketball [Applause] praising there's the guy you're going to look for is you just had to penalty that called it back in that you have a guy drop one wide open [Applause] we'll drive a coach to officers look at this Anthony Carter I think was so wide open he couldn't believe it he was looking down the sideline to see score a touchdown [Applause] Jones they got the screen pass [Applause] right family call run back into the garbage Rocklin and now Anderson does this [Applause] bacon what do we have to do [Applause] they're thinking we're lucky on that series Kelvin Martin back deep and Greg Coleman to punt [Music] take the Dallas bounce and goes out of bounds [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Jerry Burns said during the week hey man somebody asked he was feeling and he said hey man wonder if he still feels that way after that series that's good going in overtime 30 [Applause] the line of scrimmage this has to rank right up there with the game in 1974 when Roger Staubach got hurt and Clint Longley came in and beat Washington George Allen's still talking about that way he said they had double coverage him to play hit group Pearson and George Allen kept saying Longley what's so lonely second and 11 is the better [Applause] Osby is over [Applause] Oh for the face man [Applause] [Music] she's gonna beat us last year [Applause] when they give after balls the game balls on this one your ass to get one [Applause] and he is Danny white we'll split it to the right [Applause] victim poor stopped by Stanford way there are those last three plays in that disastrous Minnesota Drive if you've been called as a drive garter dropped to pass Anderson dropped a pass and then Greg Coleman got off an 18 yard punt and two played before that one before that the holding family negative six walkers [Applause] picked off by [Applause] Danny white bathe he still hears the boos from the crowd that could it be will be one of those have just slipped out of his hand he's looking in the middle there he gets the rush there's no there's no receiver in the area I have no idea what he was looking at that could be one of those things where he doesn't have that feeling in his wrist and just Randy on the other side of the Russia [Applause] in the backfield down at the 40 like Kevin Brooks and Randy white 25 out of 41 341 yards 4 touchdowns but 3 intercepted dandy white I think the way he looked at that hand is that I just didn't feel it he's explaining their what second at seven [Applause] the man in motion hand off the straight ahead the penny we just pulls his way for 4-yard bringing up a third by Lockhart as a defense over there talking if they don't score here the Cowboys get the ball again what they're going to do [Applause] to take on the road [Applause] over the right side Albert Anderson as he veered left but got the first down pyro pickup of six that third down that was good blocking over there to get that to get that corner so that Anderson can pick up that first down McGary Zimmermann over there the left tackle did a nice job of moving jeffco 662 80 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] caught him for no game it Jones made a good play he's late for help then I get Jones hurt himself he raised his hand on that plane maybe it's just being tired good date Hill playing two games in three or four days watch too tall Jones he's up there in the top he just waits waits waits for that cut back and there he is he made a good play as replace to call John [Applause] Wilson Carter as he gets inside the 30 everything walls pickup of nineteen and now they're back at field goal range legacy party here most of us best have been outside and up in here he's just catching us land right in front of Michael downs downs misses another myth and by the time they finally get him down Everson walls gets them they down just about the 25 yard line there in field goal range now they can play safe Thurston chana - 26 right side is spinny to the two ends on the stop scuse me I was just saying an interesting thing that I always like to do was maybe run on first run on second and then take a shot at the end zone on third and if you don't make it then kick the field goal cuz that way you get a two way go yeah you get a two shot at Nelson stretching those leg muscles on the sidelines second date [Applause] Demelza he might get a game ball too [Applause] they didn't control the speed when they had to [Applause] Nelson just bought when he had a 52-yard earlier we can see from the i-formation just lead man blocking cuts back finds just a little fall there miss tackle miss tackle has hit right here touchdown [Applause] as summer winds it 4438 in overtime welcome back everybody what a fabulous football game are across in the the start of a tremendous weekend let me quickly remind everybody that still ahead of us on this weekend tomorrow we'll have Alabama against Auburn at 2:30 Eastern Time then on Saturday we have our college football doubleheader we will start at noon Florida State against Florida and then we will follow that with Miami in the Orange Bowl hosting the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and I'll tell you for a time it did look like either team could score in overtime you know yeah I talked to the Vikings this morning and what they wanted to do was force the Cowboys to throw the ball the one white had to throw the ball 41 times today they thought they'd be in pretty good shape except he completed 25 fans for 341 yards four touchdowns you know what an exciting game yeah it really was Wade Wilson and Deron Nelson two of the heroes they're live right now with Pat Summerall and John Madden so let's send you back down to pack all right Brent thank you wait Wilson is standing by and wait all I could say boy how do you see if I'm out of breath and who you are yeah I am I tell you that's a great victory for us because it really puts us in the playoff picture real good and it's really especially sweet for me because I live in the Dallas area and make my home here in all season so playing in front a lot of family and friends always a lot of fun hey wait how about that series not the last one the one before that where you where you hit Wendy Carter there and he dropped the ball and then they Anderson and he dropped the ball yeah at the offense field going off the field well that was not a real good series before it for us because we had the big throw and run for go get us in field goal position and had that call back for holding and then a couple of drops so but we knew that the defense had been playing playing well are you and they rescued us and give us the ball back and we got to go down and win it for us wait congratulations that we know that this puts you very much in a solid position in the playoff picture thank you very much and congratulations again alright thanks a lot or again 44 to 38 raises the question is - who is the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings the rest of the way - I might add now this was the second game earlier today in case you missed it Kansas City held off the Detroit Lions in the final score and that one was 27 to 20 and the Chiefs break that horrendous losing streak er well of course they were down in the dumps you know going into the game this league earlier in the week they had a lot of questions but well then I think I'd win a football game yet when it's so long I thought they played a marvelous game today exactly and the Detroit Lions came back in the second half but a little bit too late for them in the fourth quarter they had an opportunity to stick in the tying touchdown and the Chiefs came back with the big defensive effort so the Dallas Cowboys go to overtime and of course all of you know or cross that the Cowboys really get tough after these Thanksgiving Day games at least traditionally they get that extra time off now and a week from Sunday they may make that run for the wild-card and we have Deron Nelson hooked up now with Pat Summerall so let's send you back now to Darren and Pat Darren 16 carries for 118 yards two touchdowns five catches the last touchdown that has to go down with it as being one of your great thrills of all time you know I've always been about scoring a touchdown in overtime and uh just winning a football game so I'm really happy about I can't wait to get in the locker room and share it with the fellas you know the first one that you had earlier was a trap block and then the last one the game-winning one was just man blocking wasn't it yeah it was this man blocking it was our best man against their best man and our best man won I'll tell you one thing about you dear and it doesn't take a big haul for you to get through it quickly and you did that you know our teammates teased me about that all the time because when we line up sometimes a defense can't see me so I think it worked pretty good today well we wish you and I know it was a Happy Thanksgiving every Thanksgiving mom dad everybody thank you thank you now let's go back to Brent all right badan once again our final score Minnesota 44 Dallas 38 and we will continue in just a moment [Music] so we've had a spectacular day here especially the second game or well you know but Darren Nelson just listen to interviews saying hi mom hi dad he's very excited about his great day carrying 118 yards and 16 carries today but when he was bath without a stand for six years ago you might remember they drafted him because he was an astroturf runner because they knew someday indoors he'd be a big factor to a biking team now did you second-guess the play calling Minnesota's I did well why don't they put the ball with the ball in the air yeah there's no old defensive back and an old defensive back field coast in the last few minutes of the game and tricky in an overtime situation I think the best way to attack a defense is throwing the ball and clearly way of putting a ball on the ground and every time he did it they wasted a lot of time let's bring in Pat and John on this particular issue Pat were you surprised that the Vikings in their second possession and overtime decided to keep it on the ground and eventually scored a touchdown on the Cowboys really I think that once they got into Dallas territory once they got in the position where they could with one first down get into field goal range I think that they played it in a very intelligent fashion well I thought it was smart on first and second down and what I said what I always like to do is run on first and second and you get a shot there to break one if you don't then on third down you take a shot in the end zone if you miss that then you kick the field goal so that gives you a couple shots to run it to pass it and if nothing else works you kick the field goal John is this something this 10-day period now that both the Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys have is that a break for the Vikings I think they big break for the Vikings now because now they have that lead and now they can take that rest and get recharged for the for the go at the end here well what are your thoughts about who's gonna be in the playoffs well I think that this was a big win for the Vikings and I think that kind of put them in I think the New Orleans Saints what 49ers are going to be in or both of them and then you take the Chicago Bears and the Redskins and that's how it looks like to me now I think by the Vikings winning today I think that not only shutout the Cowboys but that shutout all the rest of the team all right Patti I want to thank you very much and listen have a nice bus trip and Happy Thanksgiving gentlemen so the Minnesota Vikings win a very big one and now they go out for that wild-card spot in the playoffs and of course if the Chicago Bears stumble even a chance for a division title we will continue on CBS in just a moment tough water in that game and Notre Dame will take on Miami in the second game of our doubleheader from the Orange Bowl at 3:30 Eastern Time the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings go to overtime and on the second possession Minnesota wins it when Darren Nelson scoots 24 yards for the game-winner 44 to 38 curve cross and all of us at CBS I'm Brent Musburger so long everybody [Music]
