America is on the field at the same time so she can take the day off oh you little devil you I'll get you back well everyone this beautiful faith is Dorothy venom and she was born and raised in Minnesota Dorothy who are you rooting for today now come on that was also you if you tell you who you're rooting for tomorrow I'll never tell that's my secret listen all of us at CBS are very excited about the Miss America pageant coming back to where it belongs there are many many people very excited about it should be a great year and I'll see you there in Atlantic City right on convention hall stay that's right next to timber bridge that could be Beauty to the Beast the football game in here Washington Minnesota and we've already got a controversy as the playoffs begin the great shoe controversy of Red Sox Irv tell me about where it is big was the conditional kicking shoe that most kickers used in Hazzard Football League he has a flat toe but the key here is this if the toes of the heel is something there's a base near called spring steel if the metal plate which holds the cleats in place the question today is whether or not spread Cox's Hall will be a legitimate toe and that there may be some metal device put in there the answer that question some of those print it is a legal shoe as long as it's manufactured by a legitimate manufacturer if anybody can get it you can use it at NFL all right oh it should be some match Minnesota and Washington a couple of teams with a great tradition and I guess the CBS broadcaster who has been around Minnesota Washington games the longest has to be Jack Whittaker and while we break and go inside to our studio away from home let's go over to Jack now across the field for a few thoughts on this game Jack thank you very much grant I guess since but grant established this dynasty in Minnesota many of us at CBS sports have made Christmas a big part of our life in Minnesota it's this big coming to Minnesota as jingle bells and Christmas carols that we all do our Christmas shopping in the same arcade that Mary Tyler Moore goes to and I think that rather underlines the chief characteristic of this game you're not putting online bill Kilmer and the Washington Redskins of Fran Tarkenton in the Minnesota Vikings would talk about playoff jitters not only of these clubs been here before they stayed there's a lot of talk going around to perhaps Minnesota one to easily in their little soft and the Washington was on the critical list every week in their sharper or that Minnesota should win easily because they have the home-field advantage etc etc in my opinion you throw all that kind of talk out today what we're about to see are two teams to use the current cliche with characters the Redskins phrenic and emotional the Vikings cool calm and collected and everybody knows that tarkington and eller and Paige want to go back to the Super Bowl and win one as do bill Kilmer in the Washington now what we're going to see here I think is one of the fine moments in professional sports two fine teams well coached with a lot of pride fighting it out for big stakes one other thing is the weather that you've heard about it's almost spring in Bloomington Minnesota today and all of this can add up to one thing you and I are the beneficiaries of it I think we're going to see one whale of a ballgame [Music] lighter Rebs trucks are we can help foreign trucks and rider tombs those trucks razor-sharp ready for anything when ride or rental trucks take off on a mission there can only be one ending yes mission accomplished Rider the best truck money can write the weather mini shop has so many accessories you can do almost anything light up a room buff up the school help lay the rails build something that sales turn old into you make miniatures to wipe away the years stop a little boys tears the weller mini shop kid does so many things yet costs so little weller one of the great family of tools from Cooper industries [Music] Gold 45 more liquor sorry I'm late I took the shortcut a completely unique experience welcome to our home Bloomington Minnesota home with a view we've got a band right outside of us this is some setup I imagine some coaching call ecology well does not call me key we are here real like people in person and all those people and players you see out here they are here in Bloomington all asking for Phillips folks everybody else we go everybody saying is something just very special about the playoffs we remember about last year you know I can't forget that incredible pass and ride the straw straw box to do Pierson late in the game to win it for the Pat was an unbelievable play I think it would be a good idea right now if we go back and review the first round of the NFL playoffs a year ago Pittsburgh Baltimore started it off on a Saturday and I know you remember that contest so very very well because Teddy mozzarella Cinderella called Boston Terry Bradshaw and the Steelers to a bruising seven all stand off in that first half in the final 30 minutes of that game the mind and muscle of mighty Pittsburgh combined a cruelly crushed the fairytale dreams of the Baltimore Colts Franco Harris the biggest star on a team of all-stars he the twenty eighth to tenth victory by rushing for a hundred and fifty three yards in AFC divisional record meanwhile in Los Angeles the Rams defense which yielded the fewest points in the NFL dominated the high-scoring st. Louis Cardinals defensive end Jack Youngblood 47 yard interception cuts often avalanche the point that buried the Cardinal the Rams scored easily and often setback Lawrence McCutcheon rushed for 202 yards and fed Ron Jesse with a clever assist for a touchdown [Music] but in the end it was basic football and not fortunate bounces that led Los Angeles for that 35 23:54 bow into the storage rory coaching clear and open where Cincinnati Bengals lost for the Raiders what about Kenny Saylor's who a barrage of passes through a needles eye as the Raiders scored early then held off the surging bingos 31 to 28 and the most dramatic playoff game occurred right here Bloomington Minnesota where for 59 minutes the Cowboys out shot and outside the Vikings for still trail 14 to 10 then with 24 seconds remaining and Dallas in the shotgun at midfield Roger Staubach grew up when he called the Hail Mary pass through persons may ride the ball and controversy medic simultaneous rondalee a miracle landed in a heavenly hands a true person as the Dallas Cowboys for llama Sonny 1714 situations [Music] that was exciting that's such a stage for today - and of course the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow on the CBS game we'll be taking on the Los Angeles Rams at home now the broadcasters that we have working this game today for you a couple of very good friends and a couple of gentlemen who have done a fine job for CBS then Scully will be calling the play-by-play and Paul Hornung is his analyst and so let's go up to them now Thank You Brent I guess when you think about it this but grant and George Allen have three things in common they all win a lot they love ice creams and as generals they love psychology and it already started the cashews it sure has and I think in talking to some of the Redskins yesterday they feel that the Minnesota Vikings do not respect Washington as a team I think actually last week they were pulling for the Redskins against Allen they would love you them I just think last week looking back they would rather have played the Redskins today than the st. Louis Cardinals I something that George Allen might have fed into the computer saying you know they don't take you very heavily I was a er who wouldn't say George would do something like that was the other thing he did was to say this is the most explosive Minnesota team and he also took time out to tell us how many of his boys are fighting the flu yes Mike Thomas has only practiced one day this week but when you get this Favre in the marbles on the line you've got to play if you can walk you've got to play in a ballgame like this and slide the generals where the Stars granted Allen let's go back to brand all right then thank you very much and you know Irvin Phillips he mentioned the two coaches grant and Allen kind of a contrast and personalities we're going to be back to take a look at the two men in just a moment is the NFL today continues on CBS I was asked to talk about the incredible Black and Decker workmate there's almost nothing it can't hold but the work mate is so incredible I'm gonna let it do the talk [Music] work me from Black & Decker and nobody else the battery graveyard 119,000 batteries end up here every day here's the one that started a revolution in car batteries the JCPenney battery it has more starting power than any other battery you can buy you'll never add water and it's fully warranted for as long as you own your car if it fails returned it will replace it free only at jcpenney auto centers or catalog desks it's the last battery your car will ever need these am a Nevada range microwave ovens have cook magic power shift that you select stews and casseroles I'm a Nevada range microwave ovens with cook Matic powershift puts you in full control of everything you cook George Allen vs. Bud Grant here this afternoon in Bloomington Minnesota Irv you played for George for three years out of Los Angeles and he is all football look what's about that Bretton I can't help but reflect about all the discussion about the weather here in Minnesota you know George Allen says no matter what the weather is it's risking will he felt the same way in LA we came into a green business championship game for playoffs but George the very intense Manny's football 100% and as far as he's concerned every play could bid your last one today that play it's like your lives depend on it it's just anything look it's only about George they went to him and said she'll introduce your offense or your defense he said introduce all 43 players scoffed as legitimate contenders this season by most the Washington Redskins silently strung together 10 wins for playoff berth at the NFC wild-card and awarded football fans who still believe in miracles and American makers like George Allen Georgia said that this season was the most difficult coaching here you've had but yet could be the most satisfying when you recap the season what would you say the high points of the season your ball club well I suppose it was that and I said this that we've been buried four times but no doctor pronounced was dead and it was fairly last week beating Dallas in Dallas a must game we had the Cardinal score and the monkey was on our backs and the team came through with a great effort and we all played Allison just went looking has to do to beat Minnesota coach were there I was just saying we've never played a team being a defensive player you appreciate this we don't played a team that had three receivers all catching over 50 passes and a guy coming out of the backfield was made a thousand yards so that's quite a quite a challenge I know that we're going to have to play a great defensive game because tarkington is having another outstanding year there's no better guy at reading the dogs and talking to him and getting away from the rush and he's in control the situation all the time our offense by the way he's gonna have to keep the ball away from plans and that's the best way to beat them so we have to we have to play a complete game to beat Minnesota were the underdog again and we've been the underdog so much this year that if they'll notice the table it might throw somebody off a little bit you know her man Phyllis George Allen's the kind of a coaching when he doesn't have anything to do he goes out of the office and diagrams football play all right now but my grandson Wiley's diagram is like rachel bit different he has very private side toys I really enjoy talking to him I've heard a lot about by Brandt the stone-faced man yet the officer yesterday at the practice is you both know was very loose they were having fun and it was a lot of confidence out there on that field very interesting he wants to win there's no doubt about it you know it's traditional up here that Minnesota does not have any heaters behind the vent my grant said win the Super Bowl and next year you get the heaters coach Greg could you give me a weather report well weather report is good really it looks like it's going to be about 45 degrees and sunny with very little wind and very unseasonable maybe it's a good omen pres you're looking for snow tomorrow I hope not we've gotten this far without that and I think we'd all like to have it just like we have gotten no this like we've had all year I left my long times at home thank goodness I love the sunshine well maybe you can save them hopefully we you can use them next week we'll say that's a strong possibility that I have to ask you this many people have said to me if you can make bed grants Milan T village that's one point for you you stand along the sidelines with watch - I hear you're very serious very straight face and there's a great piece of humor underneath all that well of course football is a very serious business and I'm tied up with a headset and I'm talking upstairs and I have a very short cord and then chewing gum and you know a lot of things going on but the people who comment on it really don't know me I don't know any of the commentators personally and I don't think I know any of them socially is the first time I've met you so maybe there's another side to a football club we smile it makes something funny you chew gum better than any coach in the NFL I've got a lot of practice 20 years of it you have a resort area a place where you can kind of go away and get away from all this hectic pace up and grid in Wisconsin with the family Padma six kids you love that well it's a year-round home really is what it is a second home and we grew up there winter summer and joy all the outdoor activities that this area has provide us your very private person yes although I know everybody in Gordon Wisconsin that's for sure we enjoy it up there great deal we've fish and hunt and snowmobile or whatever you know outdoor camping canoeing boating waterskiing sounds terrific well it is the only thing that's football is a tough life because we start in July work seven days a week right up until now you deserve that vacation but Fran Tarkenton said the key to the success in the Minnesota Vikings is red grant you have tremendous respect from your players as a human being that's a terrific feeling but I think it works both ways I have great respect for the players we have we have great leadership on our ballclub which you know a regular maturity and coaches reflected what the players do on the greatest coach in the world can make a football team you have to have players and players that can adapt to situations and what you're doing it and this ballclub we have that and I've respected in the accomplishments they've had and you like recognition I think the worst part of this business is the recognition that you receive I love football I like working in the in the arena but the recognition I think they could pass around a little bit more and you're a great family man glad to hear that well we've got a great family to work with and I've got a piece of gum for you think I've got two pieces so you can chew it tomorrow well that'll probably get me through the first minute yes you did okay thank you well I find before the game folks and he's chomping on that gum my Mike mention that I spoke with Pat his wife yesterday at the Minnesota Vikings lunches and she said Phyllis you've been coaching for 20 years and she said I live with and he wants a big win all right we're about to bring in Jimmy the Greek and a Greek and I are about to get into a disagreement about what's going to happen with football game is the NFL today continues on CBS is just a moment won't be [Music] here's a space-age gift for kids from RadioShack the original Space Patrol walkie talkie you get two for just 1495 a pair and they really work their crystal controlled and battery operated just like dad's biggest CB units and their where car and you it's the most gracious train service America's seen since the Golden Age of railroad travel Jimmy the Greek is sponsored by the Masters at Dutch masters cigars hi Greek you have scared the three of us to death the last 48 hours walking all over Minneapolis and saying Washington's going to beat the Vikings now you come in and justify that for me well I didn't say Washington would be the Vikings I just said if it was going to be a real tough game and whoever gets the break will win it that's not the way I cook this listen I am talking to there's got all kinds of weapons they got a dry field they got sunshine look at your board now carefully now obviously Minnesota is the favorite in this game I just think Tarkington will be able to do all kinds of things today well I don't know whether he's going to do all kinds of things because that presented secondary the red can be confirm endless and they'll try to stop this they can't why Sammy white nobody else has Jenna he's a phenom he's a seen him no question about it he and Rashad but they'll be double covered so that'll force mr. talking to the go-to Foreman on those shorts passage is that secondaries you've been raving about they are great any Houston I gotta say he's magnificent Washington hasn't given up anything in the defensive secondary the last seven getting now what about the kicking game controversy over the shoe and everything well I'll tell you one thing if you can't kick whatever you put in issue isn't going to help you we still going to give the edge to Washington later today in the AFC of course we've got the game between Oakland and New England and the Oakland Raiders are so strong and they're at home to Jimmy because they've got the quarterback that can pass he's the greatest quarterback in football the day we got into what everybody's doing and that outside speed guys like footplant but New England bottle him up the last time they play I know but that they were unknown at the time let's see what they do now in the big game branch will make it alright but I'll tell you the Patriots have got probably the best running game and the AFC right now has to move the ball that's right 15 1,500 yards between two fullbacks what's going to happen here is that Oakland will probably stacked up against the run and give Grove in the past extremely or vltava their banks use that sweeper down at Oklahoma he's going to know how to attack it with these guys on the offensive line plant channel and tightest we're going to brought your defensive on don't forget great okay and here's Gordon well he supplements the running game no question about it but but mr. Hendricks will take care of him today all right so now if I understand this today the Greek has got Oakland and Washington will negotiate the numbers elect about Washington we just said it's going to be an edge game are they behind like the NFL today we'll continue on CBS if Jimmy agrees to stick around in just a moment Blakey a gun [Music] [Applause] [Music] introducing dutch masterpieces Dutch masters gift cigar tins inspired by 19th century collectors items now you can have the fun of giving them too this one holds 25 great tasting presents and this 125-mile Dutch masters planner tellers get the now where gift black boxes of 50 Dutch masters are featuring see why there really are masters at Dutch masters all right leave tomorrow we get out of Dallas Los Angeles and the Cowboys what's the Rams quarterback situation Hayden will play definitely all right now tell me about some of the coaches around the NFL what kind of changes can we anticipate Atlanta will fire all the assistants and keep Cutler in some capacity the lines will probably delete Hudspeth Monday and Denver will probably take care of Ralston on Tuesday what's the number on there being a pro football draft you got a knot on that to me well I said at this point in time you better s think P that means easily grow gel all right listen you stay inside the van when the game starts there's some Minnesota folks looking for you out there all right the NFL today will continue with a look at the most intriguing personality in this game on CBS in just a moment [Music] when the Dutch masters tobacco buyer comes to Colombia South America it is it's tobacco dealers like me Lawrence Hernandez he's looking for only the top grades of tobacco for Dutch magnet and he knows all the Masters tricks to make sure he finds them I think now you know why that's masters like the panatela has such good taste there really are Madison touch mattes Jimmy the Greek is sponsored by the Masters a Dutch masters cigars well tell me about Bill Malin check incredible stories that bill melonchek had been retired for two years and went to a game in New York to the Redskins of Giants play George Ellis for him on the sideline had him come and give the pregame pep talk to Bill you got to come back to us and join us special teams and he came back and to come for the last time I saw bill Malin check was it your cocktail party he was hitting that circuit he really retired from profile jackie was reminiscing that night if you remember and we just talked to him on the field out here and he said I was as shocked as you all are it is so intriguing to listen to Bill melonchek tell her of how you block a punt defining in a little bit more nobody even considered unblocking you know people say well you know how do you block punt and it goes against all the laws of nature running in letting us punter kick the ball in your face I mean it's just not natural to go in there practice that every day nobody really excelled at pun blocking and I took the cue and I thought well maybe I can change some games maybe win some games if I learn how to really block punt and that's really what I was I set out to do I wanted to you know become the greatest punt Walker that that ever you know played the game and when he called me I'd we didn't even make some money night I I thought coming back with the risk ins of being back at playing trying to help possibly going to the Super Bowl is enough fulfillment and if we do that they can do whatever they want with the money as you told me he is George Allen's good luck charm but you know Minnesota has got a fella by the name and Allen who's had an incredible year if he's blocked everything but affecting the quest of a team of black 13 kick with Nate Allen was a guiding on the Springfree to make the big play for them let's take a look now at made Allen in action against Detroit and this is the man while she's gotta walk business right on the wing you come from either the outside of the inside he with the game was a linebacker had a linebacker take the wing back inside Allen's fast let's break through here you watch the front Breton arrested this plan is flight actually pick up the ball here on the rebound he cut it in the air when elevate to the score and he's a big play player you know a few years ago couldn't Malin check come in here with Washington and block a Minnesota Punta de in a playoff game he did that's very high on his mind he thinks he can do it again today but I'm wondering it because lastly he blocked one of the Dallas punch now you were thinking breaking down the film's or that they would pay particular attention to where Malin check lines up today well you can do certain things on tick blaster but he put three men against two and the line of scrimmage one of the three men to be free and that's what the Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings do now the kicking game has become strong importance of a National Football League you always overlook that we always talk about the quarterbacks and the defense then you wait for a game like this to come to a conclusion and usually it's a kicking game or a mistake that turns it around I don't think you see committing mistakes in this game rule everybody is playing this game like every play is your last one we're going to go over on the sidelines and work with Vince Kelly and Paul Hornung and of course all of us we'll be back at halftime I think you're going to see a tremendous football game and again the weather is magnificent today in Bloomington Minnesota for Jimmy the great earth lost lovely Phyllis George this is Brent Musburger saying we hope you enjoy the NFL today on CBS [Music] the NFL today is sponsored by Cotton Incorporated the fiber company of America's cotton producers Ford and your local Ford dealer who say when America needs a better idea for it puts it on wheels and by the Miller Brewing Company Brewers the Miller highlight if you've got the time we've got the beer [Music] stay tuned as the NFL today continues after this word from your local station [Music] the Peanuts gang brings joy to the world when they find the true meaning of the Yuletide season and the emmy award-winning special a Charlie Brown Christmas tonight at 8:00 7:00 central on CBS Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington Minnesota cbs4 presents the NFC divisional play on the Washington Redskins versus the Minnesota Vikings hi everybody I'm Vin Scully along with Paul Hornung and I guess in the pregame show with exported just about everything the weather the psychology the kicking shoot but let's get to the strategy involved and fall first of all Billy Kilmer a veteran leader what's on his mind primarily yesterday he point-blank told me Paul I've got to improve my strong side passing attack we've got to get the football to Roy Jefferson a little bit more we have but not gone to the strong side and that is the side where gene Fugate will line up if they have one element besides going it I guess you'd have to say they have to run the ball a great year they sure do they don't have to control the football keep the football away from fran talking because that's exactly what he does bet I think John Riggins would like to run the football 20 times 20 to 22 times Kilmer would like to get it showing that many times now on the other side of the coin Fran Tarkenton 61% completions this year the most efficient quarterback around and he'll go up against the most experienced secondary defensively for watching them he's got a few more weapons to work with I think talking instead this is the best pair of flankers he's ever thrown the football to I personally have said this many times Chuck Foreman is one of the most valuable backs I've ever seen play professional football he can do it all he can make the big play they go to him in key situations they have it the last couple of games they haven't needed to Billy Kilmer and Fran Tarkenton both came into professional football in 1961 talking in with 16 years Tilton with 15 in this one because of an automobile accident and they'll need head on here in Bloomington in just one minute keeps America comfortable Travel America Finland natural I do anything for Bill so when he said that he wanted comfortable breathable cotton shirts I bought a natural brown shirts 50 percent more cotton clothes durable press so bill gets cotton comfort and I get easy care natural blend is great because I do anything for Bill except my insurance when you're looking for comfort look for the feel of cotton the more cotton better you feel the Alaskan pipeline under the largest construction project since the pyramids and the men were making you have to give it all they've got or they don't make it come on guys let's go and up here quitting time is military time to head for the best tasting beer you can find nor Harline america's quality beer 1855 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] author Steven Potter author of the famous book gamesmanship would be proud of what has just taken place because the Minnesota Vikings are making the Washington Redskins and George Allen wait and after waiting a couple of minutes here come in a purple game we talked about psychology and they are each playing bottom cards right now and Bud Grant might be saying I read your book George I read your book there goes the cheerleading job little bit into effect he's got his team I tell you both these coaches are I think their character is reflected by the seed Gilmer of course very excitable he talks football I got anybody would talk in the eighth or ninth grade he loves it he'll do anything to win and George Allen's the same way but drastic cold icy stare but a winner player I think the one word here Ben is respect both these teams respect the ball you know in the pregame poker game that they are playing when George Allen was asked which of your teams if you like to introduce and George said all 43 so then they went to grant and said bud what about you and he said okay then all 43 of mine so they're matching card for card thus far and of course the shoe came up then later on George Allen talked about the explosiveness of the Vikings but Allen said oh go on Washington is loaded with receivers and runners then George pointed out that his club is weakened somewhat because of five flu cases and but grant and Minnesota would not swallow that somebody somebody came up to me and ask me about my college woody place got the flu and I said you only practiced one day this week but don't worry about if you be in there let's go call it boss call it while it's in the air hey Hales he called heads it is whoopsie heads it is all right one the boss when I go to one one one Austrian and they like football good luck gentlemen okay so if that is a good sign for Minnesota it's not reflected in the gestures of Bud Grant stoic unflappable even though his mates appear to feel it's a very good sign they jump in the air and bud just oozes dumb and implacable as always awaits the starting pick off so Minnesota will receive they will go left to right on your screen and for the Washington special unit they are about as tough and we'll talk about that after our national anthem [Music] Oh [Music] Oh a magnificent day here in Bloomington the finest ficials infused capable hands ballgame Brett referee Bob Frederick on fire Gordon well and you have a go to Royal cat Park Pat Knight and Bill O'Brien Minnesota and Washington all set to go Washington victory Florida sees it is the fourth time they come in as a wild card that's Leonard Willis going deep for Minnesota and he'll be flanked on the left by Robert Miller and us going on his wife will be Samy wife number 85 mark Mosley will tee it up or the Washington and in one or two moments we'll get underway there is a very light breeze out of the Southwest about 8 miles per hour the temperature about a half hour ago they said 37 is going up to the 40s and it seems even warmer than that Dan mark Mosley has a reputation being the best kickoff man in the National Football Conference he gets the ball so high you can see it tilted it's about a four or four and a half inch on that team he really gets a high kick off there we go it's not so deep Oh though hi Robert we'll go to the 20-yard line out to the 30 covered and Greg down at about the 33 yard the Minnesota will take over first in Ted Ted Fritz down there to make the stop he didn't hit it too good for Minnesota offensively Steve Riley Shaw's Goodman Nick tingle Harford Center in white Ronnie Arian the tidings to Boyd the men in the backfield Fran Tarkenton Brett McClanahan and shop foreman and the wide receivers Ahmad Rashad and Sammy wife go first in ten on the 34 for Minnesota and the open up Claud life Annie white is inside Rashad right red McClanahan for the 45 now the Washington 30 and Kingston at the Washington 25-yard line or great blocking off the left side a 41 yard pickup that's the longest run from scrimmage for Britt McClanahan Harris goes off the lift by they get a standoff they knock Chris hanburger to the outside and McClanahan got a big hole he Harold McClinton who was supposed to cover that gap from the middle linebacker position Kenny Houston finally pushes him out we open up with a big play and so Minnesota first intent on the Washington 25 against any white in the spotlight second man through is Corman and he is deck hard fumble after the whistle however he got across the 25 down to the 23 yard line even though Dyron Talbert came up let's take a look at the Washington defense yo lavender made the hit it was Ron McDowell and Dade bus tyrant Albert and Dennis Johnson up front the linebackers Brad D sack Harrell McClendon and Chris hanburger at the corners Pat Fisher and Joel lavender and a Safety's in Houston and Jake Scott at secondary we'll play man-to-man coverage 85% of the time very unusual today propofol second and eight on the Washington 23 here comes McClanahan following a Goodwin block and he's not across the 20-yard line Charles Goodman number 68 leading the pack Chris hanburger finally brought him down now they gots to Boyd lined up on the weak side he's too tight in a flood situation and they're double-teaming at the point of attack and Chuck Foreman has just put on two good blocks for McClanahan so it's third and three on the Washington 18 yard line the drive started on the Minnesota 34 in a 41 yard scamper by McClanahan put Minnesota in business the planning on all alone rolling in front of harkonnen he's looking deep in the end zone complete to still boy shy and he goes in for the touchdown ooh boy had his best day against the lift in the last time they played he caught eight passes park he did on a little rollout he flooded the right zone and he just waited for number 82 boy to find an open hole we take an infill child for Clinton now watch to Boyd hook up and come back to the open hole marketin he's a secondary receiver here stood boy a crisper hand and he gets into the end zone with good second effort well Savoy takes it over they go 66 yards on that drive and pipe hot tip it's good though Minnesota plays a front part a 41 yard run by Brett McClanahan and in the short pass parking in the void for the touchdown 7 nothing Vikings [Music] [Music] introducing Ford LTD to Ltd to a trimmer sporty-er Ltd at a trimmer price expect something different when you're driving [Music] when America needs a better idea Ford puts it on wheels genius you know the remington radial it give you a close shave here's live fact you know it had replaceable chromium edge blades for real closeness and an adjustable contoured head for unreal comfort you're feeling pretty confident with your remington i Japan well I believe Remington I believe [Music] seven hunting Minnesota in the early moments we had 1321 to go in the first quarter and Fred Cox winning up into the Sun preparing to kick deep is Eddie Brown a premier returner for Washington and we'll see what o'clock tries to go deep or short like he has been most of the years George he's against the wind got a little wind against it is tickling and going out of bounds so they'll have to kick it over again one thing we had asked your gallon before the ballgame since red sox has been a short kick off man would he put some backs up front rather than the usual heavy lineman to handle the ball and he said no not facts necessarily but I'm going to put my best athletes who can handle the ball up short so when they line up again it will do as well to mark just who those men are bid but grant also counters with Fred Cox kicking to the right side hitting the squib kick to the right 95% of time you'll try that kick to his left so let's take a look at the Washington men any Brown is deep and South you'll get it to his left is Danny bugs his right is Bob Brunei rusty Tillman is on his 30-yard line and he's flanked by koozie landlords this one has some muscle to it it'll be Eddie Brown at about the 15 25 30 35 down at about the 38 yard line so Eddie Brown brings it back and it was Mark Mulaney who made the hit to bring him down and now Washington will put it in play say today is 505 Easton CBS Sports presents Davis Cup competition from Tucson the United States team comprised of Arthur Ashe Roscoe Tanner Dan Smith and Bob Lutz looking to revenge the upset losses of the last two years at the hands of the Mexican team Davis Cup today at 5:00 Eastern bursting sand for the 39 Don Riggins powers right at the 40 yard line let's take a look at the Minnesota defense well first offense for Washington Tim Stokes and Ron soil the center land Hawes and Nugent starting for Terry thermally and George stark game to get the tight end for two back Billy camera with John Riggins and Mike Thomas Frank grant Android Jefferson the wide receivers pickup of one at second and nine the only two officers here by the Vikings the 49ers being 317 yards rushing in Iran's gained over 230 so I'm sure George L's are kind of under football stablished control live left with ran inside Edison and Mike Thomas potentially running to a half the 43 yard line and it was guest seamen who hit him first and talking about seamen let's find out those men who were trying to hold on to that seven nothing lead Paul eller Doug Sutherland Allen page in Jim Marshall for TV every day 47 years of experience their defensive line that blared yes seaman and Wally hildenburg corners made right in Nate Allen would give right and Paul clouds so it's third and five from the 44 and they go slot right grant is inside Jefferson Larry Brown is all alone now staying in the block for Kilmer Anna Khalil Rosa heavy hit by Mac Claire and he just buried Larry Brown he tried to release his block and sneak across and Blair wouldn't fall for heading zeroed in on the little delay watch Larry Brown he pumped Allen page a little bit he's got to delay over the middle and it's Matt flair 65 230 with us he's a defensive linebacker vendors greatly Act this guy's going to be an all-pro only a three-year veteran from Iowa State that he is so quick pressure now on my drag against the club that is blocked 13 various kicked Leonard Willis is deep on his right as Autry demon on his left sandy white rag averaging almost 39 yards a punt and he hangs it high Willis standing on his 16 yard line Danny knows he was hit and submarine by Ted Fritz and went down with Brunei right next to him the Leonard Willis is bottled up seven to nothing in favor of Minnesota we have 10 minutes and 53 seconds to go in the first quarter so the chairs are barely warm here in Bloomington [Music] where does your money go after you put it in your bank well some of us right here building your neighborhood construction loans and home mortgages but also with municipal bonding money for your public parks and money for your schools today America's banks have over 80 billion dollars invested in communities like yours so if you believe in your community there's no better place to put your money than your bank America's bankers helping you change things for the better hey if your car has lost its phantom power and life is passing you by if your fuel gauge seems to be the only thing that moves it's time to see an AC Delco serviceman attitude he likely has the training the tools but know-how and of course all of the AC spark plugs and L green the ignition parts to help restore your car's performance so see your AC Delco service man and put Pepin power back into your car first and ten before Minnesota on your own 18 yard line slot right Sammy wife is inside Ahmad Rashad and it's foreman trying to get inside I'm a planner hand block but he stacked up this shy of the 20 yard line by dire encounters whoa they're really testing the defensive right side of the Washington defense this is for the third or fourth play very early here in the fourth quarter they've gone almost always to the left side double-team it's a point or double-teaming Chris hanburger second and eight the ball on the Minnesota 20-yard line the Vikings leading seven and unning a 41 yard run by Brent McClanahan put him in business parking and past the school boy too carried it over for the touchdown pocket and going down the right side and ten for Sammy wife Pat Fisher Kenny Houston Fisher complaining that he has been punked by Sammy white but to no avail thanks this telecast presented by authority of the National Football League intended for the five abuse of our audience any rebroadcast for the unity telecast without the express written consent of the Minnesota Vikings and the National Football League is prohibited Roy Jefferson taking a breather he hadn't had much to do yet Washington has only had the ball for three plays in a punt of course that is one of the big strengths of Minnesota they leave the lead in projection they averaged better than 72 plays again 13 8 on their 20 their 50 plants have governess the defensive back three goes talking and look in your left a wobbly - intended for was shot no good it was deflected the line of scrimmage residence went into the extra defensive back on passing situation though Minnesota will now be forced to punt from their own 20 yard line and that means a little heat on Neil clay Bowl one thing about the Washington Redskins statistician but duty pointed out they are number one in a category that's not talked about too much did you average what you gain and what you give up in punts and kickoffs subtract one and the other defined at Washington would be number one in both departments play ball kicking from the 10 you Danny hits an arrow to the Washington 40 Eddie Brown is to back up heading for the sidelines 2 on its feet across the 45 yard line and down he goes on the Minnesota 44 and so Washington starting off with his flank they're in good field position that's why he leads the National Football Conference averaging over 13 yards a punt return Fast Eddie Brown I'll tell you when he gets on the outside he had a 71 yard touchdown return earlier here again st. look there it is 738 yards on kickoff return 646 on fun that was a 40 yard kick and a 17 yard return first and ten from the Minnesota 45 lot right jefferson is wide left Gilmer looking left and intended for Jefferson and it's going to be juggled and intercepted by Minnesota and it was Bobby Bryant who made the tackle football they had his own defense here's Kimmel they called it a waggle he goes to the weak side and it's right there in the middle of the zone where he's trying to hit Roy Jefferson a good interception Bobby Bryant his third interception of the year Minnesota very much controlling the ball game from the moment they won the toss and now they had it back Kirstin Ken on their own 30 yard line 9:50 to go in the first quarter 7 nothing Minnesota Rashad is right wide his left he found a look I picked off by Jake Scott to the 40 yard line number goes down on his own and then the bike sit on it so Jake Scott by growing back with his fifth interception of the year and he also has recovered five fumbles his 10th takeaway of the season what a year he's had a great free safety now Sammy wife had everybody beaten by about a yard talking and did not get the football now white went out of your picture he actually was deep I yours the pantsless chart Jake Scott comes up with the football Don exchanging interceptions by Bobby Brian and I gig stop there the way the county bridge games out listen they've been on the map all year long the Bobby way quarterback in the list hold on to your head Kilner city to my comics and he gets down to the 30-yard line of their look by Jeff seaman and that plan to bring him down Mike Thomas a slightly sore ankle also bothered somewhat by the flu but he didn't think he who would be hurting for this one but ran on the sidelines with his man plan targeted going over a little strategy now second on a long four for a Billy Kilmer slot left with plant inside Jefferson tilma getting to my comment hammer that's the 30-yard line while hildenburg the first man got shuttling and gentiemen all what is doing Doug son is probably the most underrated guy that defensive line though you see now watching follow the flow this is great pursuit that all sat tackle was supposed to cut him he cuts back and Sutherlands right there along with semen and a host of others third and four - scrimmage the Viking 30-yard line 47 years of experience at defensive front for the Purple Gang for Minnesota right grant wide left Floyd Everson wide right tight end is on the right side with Mike Thomas in motion Charlie Brown all alone the past behind Thomas he turns and drops it at a first down he thought again though my Thomas just turned and couldn't hold on to it interesting to point out in the first 10 games Mike Thomas fumbles seven times in the last four games he did not drop one ball in over 90 carries and then he let one get away look he's out for the dead he wanted to run with the football before now we're going to see mark mostly mostly is number one in the NFC in points with 97 he also is number one in the NFL with 22 field goal they will spot the ball on the Viking 37 yard line Joe Theismann will hold it's a 47-yard field goal attempt he thundered it good what a kick boy he can bomb on his longest was 49 and he just kicked one 447 boy didn't have any problem with his entrance was about seven yards of sparrow eight minutes and 15 seconds to go in the first quarter and that's part of the story I'm a carpenter and here at Sears you get all the tools you need we're at a Sears store to find out why Sears is where America shops if one you see his tools should happen to break you bring it back no questions I mean I gotta just about crash because I can buy replacement parts very easily I really don't think there's a tool they don't have my father has Craftsman tools he put in the will who's going to get them so no one fights over you Sears for America County the railroads ever since the energy crisis they've been busier than ever moving our number-one source of electricity cold this year Burlington Northern will move enough cold from the West to supply energy for over 10 million homeless and Burlington Northern is adding even more trains and facilities to meet the nation's future energy needs and keep America running mark Bosley's 47-yard field goal gets Washington on the board at 7 to 3 Minnesota 8 minutes and 15 seconds to go in the first quarter boy they're going right after each other absolutely exciting football game they op they're the soul Holly seems to move the ball very well in the first half you can missed it low so coming up in Glennon would he have taken at the 16 yard line across the 30 and dragged down as he got across the 34 the 31 yard line Jerry Williams is on the top and Stu Odell at the bottom say tomorrow CBS Sports presents the NFL playoff fitting the Los Angeles Rams against the Dallas Cowboys the action beginning at 5:00 p.m. Eastern with the NFL today pregame show force for Minnesota another thought if they win they will host the winner of the Dallas Ram game and ago stood watching him wince being the wild card they have to play on the road first and ten on the Minnesota 32 McClanahan in motion and there goes Foreman out across the 35 yard line a good piece of into a justice for a pick of the three again they're going against on their offensive left side at Steve Raleigh and Charles goodness the taco and the started over their helmet made that stop is Fred McGill on the bench second and shakes the ball on just over the Minnesota 35 yard line 73 Vikings the slightest idea shot the boy on the left side McClanahan grabbed by Big Dave but right at the line of similar in the story save but six seven to ninety he's listed about 285 but some friends on the say he's about three dollars he could weigh him in about 300 only make it third and seven the ball still on the 35 yard line and this is where Chuck form is very very dangerous they come up in a split backfield if they don't flanking they can do so many things with him as they're going to put him in a slot left or coming back on the right side now comes on the right side Pat Fisher is over there defending darting and looking over the middle now decides to go wide left to void and void at the 40 is finally jerked out about hamburger along with lavender you know in that secondary for Washington they in the last half of the season they have only allowed 33% a fastest thrown to be complete that's number one their secondary has really come alive now talking I looked at defensive secondary over and they are questionably the best man-to-man coverage probably in the National Football League because they play so much of it form and tried to get the football on that little pass he was covered as hard him went to avoid again Neal play ball will be punting from his 30-yard line Eddie Brown is standing just shy of his own 25 two on one but way over on the left side for the skin but they can't get anybody in on mistake around fielding out of 15 we go down just shy of the 25-yard line and hit hit by a gang McNeil was the first man and umlet and at the bottom was Windland Hall or I feet Wysocki almost took a couple of heads off he's a wild man on those special teams a second-year man with Western Michigan very valuable are no special teams he plays hard see if we can pick him up coming down on him trying to get into the ledge here nope convinces first and ten for Washington on their own 25-yard line remember the passion deception on the Viking 36 set them up to their field goal I will see how they go in their own parasol John Ragan he was hit so hard at the line at finish what was it Billy coming with aim you would like to have Riggins carry about 20 times where he's hit and staggered like that he'll never make it I tell you it would be a long afternoon miss Minnesota Viking defects look at that play by 69 Doug southern he really didn't make the stop but he made a spin there and clogged up the hole on Riggins he just turned his back on Riggins and that's a pretty good back for Riggins to run into meanwhile McClanahan getting his own instructions on the sidelines second and ten from the 25 grand right Jefferson left suck advantage Thomas Thomas actually had troubled because John Riggins was leading the play Jeff seaman just stopped Riggins straight up so Thomas ran right into Riggins back he had nowhere to go they're going right at the strength of Allen page and Doug Sutherland right in the gut gets the ball out to the Washington 29 yard line they get third and six Ragan figures to be most important in leading the play my grant goes wide left Roy Jefferson wide right Brown is in there he'll stay back Kilmer looking bad pass over the middle the point of that ball is down it looked like a runaway gyroscope intended for Mike Thomas Nate Allen just like that spinning top hit the ground he's hold the strings on it you just shy of the 25-yard line and hit hit by a gang McNeil was the first man and done loot and at the bottom was Lynn Lynn Hall Pete Wysocki almost took a couple of heads off he's a wild man on those special teams a second-year man to Western Michigan very valuable are no special teams he played hard see if we can pick him up coming down on him trying to get into the wedge here nope convinces first and 10 for Washington on their own 25-yard line remember the past interception on the Viking 36 set them up with their field goal I will see how they go in their own territory John Ragan he was hit so hard at the line at finish what was the Billy Tilghman was Amy would like to have Riggins carry about 20 times if he's hit and staggered like that he'll never make it I tell you it's going to be a long afternoon miss Minnesota Viking defects look at that play by 69 Doug southern he really didn't make the stop but he made a spin there and clogged up the hole on Riggins he just turned his back on Riggins and that's a pretty good back for Riggins to run into meanwhile McClanahan getting his own instructions on the sidelines second in ten from the 25 gram right Jefferson left suck advantage Thomas Thomas actually had troubled because John Riggins was leading the play Jeff seaman just stopped Riggins straight up so Thomas ran right into Riggins fact he had nowhere to go they're going right at the strength of Allen page and Dutch Sullivan right in the gut gets the ball out to the Washington 29 yard line they get third and six Regan's figures to be most important in leading the play Franko's wide left boy Jefferson wide right and Larry Brown is in there he'll stay back Gilmer looking bad back over the middle the point of that ball was down it looked like a runaway gyroscope intended for Mike Thomas Nate Allen just like that spinning top hit the ground he pulled the strings on it you'll see Mike Thomas he's working one-on-one with the linebacker he cuts over the middle Vikings had a stun on Redskins picked it up right there way low Hill W as far as one before Fran Tarkenton his teeth for five and a touchdown we've seen Kilmer so many times start off slow he picks up the momentum as the game gets along quite a competitor my kind of guy Mike Bradd running from the 15-yard line Leonard Willis all alone just shy of his own 30 but he got it away good hang time Willis will call a fair catch diet is 35 that he hadn't Jerry Williams my to knock him out of state though the Vikings will take over first and ten on their own 34 yard line let's go down to earth cause there's been we have a lot of people standing around here but I was trotting the pattern of the game and looks like the Washington defense for offense brother right now it's trying to work that her running back to senator yv service remember the quick close to Jervis is intercepted by Bobby Bryant the black demons playing the sport is real tough all right the bikes now first and ten on their own 34 getting good pots on the planet Han he's at the 45 and finally dragged down just shy of the 50 by Harold McClendon the third has depletion for target in every one of them here in the first quarter bin had sent to his secondary receivers now you'll see McClanahan delay come out he's looking downfield he comes back to the open man McClanahan as he should do McClanahan stopped by Pat Fisher and McClinton picked up 15 yards on the pass first and 10 on the Viking 49 yard line 346 to go in the first 40 Rashad right white left corner a good block by McLeod and running inside the 40 oh what a block by Brent McClanahan to open up the door if I said this once out 10 to 20 times touch Foreman always defeat the first tackler especially an open field i watch this move and a great block by McClanahan now watch Foreman's move coming up here well he said he didn't waste time blocking needs gone he goes by that first tackler he finally pulled down by number 51 earlier than I am on the Washington 39 yard line Gorman again for the 35 yard line they tried to strip the ball from him and Kenny Houston wound up with it but it was after the whistle let's form it again they go to their strong point he's the back to make everything happen for the Minnesota Vikings get out of my way let me get through there get a good hit by Kenny Houston what a safety he is Jake Scott says without question he's the best football player he's in the lineup with six on the Washington 35 yard line 2:30 to go in the first twenty slot left right in Congress god play-action fake the foreman talking in a plan ahand Jake Scott he's got able to get him out but he has the first down inside the 30 okay Tarkington is really missing up his plays great sequence of play by Fran Tarkenton 16 years in the league and I say he knows I think he knows his punch and any quote or anybody sitting in the press box he seems to pull the game then first and 10 for Minnesota on the Washington 29 yard line this started on the Viking 34 Danny white wide life with God left boy Poseidon on the right side the farming Trumble dak qu aleihi v over the foot of Dave butts and lunge forward free yard on the gold falling on him Ron McDole along with Pat fishers and center Nick single ha from Minnesota all played together at Nebraska so somewhat old time we give 120 on the boards to go in the first forty second and nine the ball under Washington 27 yard-line Bob through knaves and Stokes taking a breather but they want to watch the action open a nine from the 27 Foreman in a slot left and the planning in releases but they're going Pete earth down there is Rashad he can't with him and fighting him all away was Joe lavender who at six four was able to climb the ladder and break it up even though the fans down in that corner felt that lavender might have been putting a little black and blue on the purple glass there was hoping for a little protection from the inside and Jake Scott and get over there lavender Rashad had his man beaten by about a yard right there but Labrador makes a good defensive play I think unbeknown to him he Anthony the football had intercepted eight passes this year for the skin Kenny Houston has four Pat 55 and Jake Scott picked off his lips today third and nine with a minute left to go in the quarter seven to three Minnesota requiring a swab right talking and why make sure incredible cat he's been doing it all year long Sammy white rookie Brambling at his lemmas touchdown pack i watch this game Houston almost comes up with the interception here what a juggling act Houston will step in front he's going for the interception he's got his hands on it now to loose football now watch Sammis white face balance one he keeps his eye right there twice and he cradles the football six points like one of the great catches of this year are any year by rookie Sammy wife that's his 11 touchdown pass Fred class will try to make it 14 to 3 Minnesota and he kicked it out of sight very good 14 to 3 Minnesota for Sandy white that is his 11th touchdown pass for a rookie Bob Hayes has 12 in 1965 for a Minnesota rookie called flatly plus 51 and 63 Gary right now at 11 touchdown in 61 and this is number 11 for Sammy white and he'll never make a better one then watch out easily move Ron he's back he doesn't look like he's running here of course we've got in slow motion replay but he always get that half a step on the defense and there's the course is just a juggling act semi white just does a great job of keeping these eye on the football and it just happened to bounce light also freak Ted Parkington 4 out of 8 here in the first quarter 53 yards that catch might very well make Minnesota forget about Drew Pearson and Dallas and all of the things that happened last year that's going they forgot about that so flag teeing it up with Minnesota striking twice on a first set up on a 41 yard run by McClanahan and the touchdown pass to Boyd and in that remarkable Kent Eddie Brown will stand on a five and here we go with its 25 and dragged down by Robert Miller at about the 28 yard line quickly let's check in with our fraud if an you know that last touchdown pass by Danny white can use to buy to the basic rule piece with the back and Canada's at the bar Pat it down he's getting up in the air stand away man a great section six down Danny white made a great catch about three times on that fast although he first began on the Washington 29 timer 42 seconds in the first quarter Brandon a spot inside Jefferson Mike Thomas across the 30 yard line semen and Hill Ginsberg and what semen did he almost knocked his helmet off this is the most reckless I've seen Jeff seaman playing a long time I've always said a middle linebacker going to have a little oh he's got to play with reckless abandon Butkus miski Joe Schmidt all your straight middle linebackers just hurl their body at T Floyd Jeff seaman did exactly that picked up three second and seven at the 32 of Washington and he has to have a few maniacal tendencies to play that position Lin believe me well that was a wipeout second and seven of all under Washington 32 seven seconds to go in the first quarter Mike Thomas wide right they have really a double wing situation that Reagan staying in the block killer looking for Riggins loopty to him but he is buried by that player we're just reading that playbook at Washington they tried to jump off one before and that wouldn't go for he's a photographer and he really got the picture then the Vikings are playing like they're all rookie well I've never seen this team play with so much emotion looking worth covering everybody pursuit the Minnesota let defining a home cloud leading by 11 [Music] the size reduction to some 77 cars are making news time says an amazing shrinking act Newsweek calls it the big scale down the size changes are significant for example the Ford LTD now has a longer wheelbase and is longer and wider than Chevrolet Caprice or Impala in fact the Ford LTD is now about the same size as the Cadillac DeVille and LTV has more trunk space is a little wider even has more hip and shoulder room than the Cadillac and of course Chevrolet yet LTV is priced not like the Cadillac but comparably equipped the Ford LTD is sticker priced like a downsized Chevrolet so this year when you pay a full-size price make sure you get a full sized value like Ford LTD it has the full size of a Cadillac yet it's priced like a downsized Chevrolet when America needs a better idea Ford puts it on wheels through our pass or run with the ball time for decision if you're a teenager you're near a decision on drinking I'm not telling you what to decide but most young people know that drinking too much too often is not grownups whatever your age to help you make responsible decisions right for information through Education Commission of the states box 687 Denver Colorado 802 o1 Vin Scully along with Paul Hornung welcoming you back to Bloomington Minnesota the Vikings rating 14 to 3 and we start the second quarter but grant talking to his players they had certainly kept the momentum so far and watching a now down by 11 putting the ball in play seven from their own 32 Larry Brown staying in the block Kilmer deep on the left side a great diving catch by Gary Smith across the 40 yard line and the old tight end smelling the money made a big play for Gary Smith he holds the record the touchdown resistance were tied in and it put him in on the passing situation 12 years in the league what a catch here watch his thought now if that ball had been shown just a little bit taller might have been 7 because he had a step on the linebacker Hilton Burton I think he would have outrun him Gary Smith 12-year man who was caught 58 touchdown passes going into this game makes a big reception to keep walking in very much alive on the Viking 38 yard line first and 10 Jefferson white and plant left action faith a wobbly pass over phone Paul Klaus is not intercepted it was intended for Frank grant and it was another one of those dead bird passes well I guess we got to say Billy Kilmer favor for he tried to drop it in between his own here brent brent was about 10 yards open you saw Kilmer was hit just as he released the football that caused that pass and it was Allen Page who put the rush on him before Krauss short hopping the ball and that's all and it will be second in ten on the Viking 38 yard line Jefferson right was planned in a slot right Dean Fugate the tight end is loose way off to the left a goddamn eye Thomas looking for blocks and he runs right into call Ella [Applause] 13 years in the league going against George stark the offensive white taco that's a good matchup start the four-year veteran from Columbia's going against one of the best in the business first teen years of the University of Minnesota those are the numbers in the first quarter and you can see total the arts to Washington only 18 that tells most of the story they've come off the mat all year long we can not count the risk ends up Dean few that I've noticed I have been working man-to-man against Jeff white because he too much try to get the ball going pretty soon Bernie 36 dilmer standing up and time is called and a delay of the game too much time so the clock wound down you might remember when Miami scored a touchdown against Minnesota last week but grant will fight positive the pocket run out before the touchdown pass delay offense third down well that makes it third and 13 the ball spotted on the Viking 41 go ahead jefferson wide right team to get the tight end on the right side and frank grant wide left Larry Brown and Mike Thomas staying in the block the bond he's on the left side a flag on the play and he intercepted by Bobby Bryant and let's see honey ruin the second pass interception of the day he was going to be call against the Redskins here Frank grant I believe grabbed it he sure did grant grant going down the left side interfere with Bobby Bryant on the defense now watch it there's his right hand Harriette touch see 42 yards on that pass completion him to the defense from the line of study Gilmer coming into the game has thrown canyon deception and this will be the second he is surrendered if the play holds up Tarkington as usual very stingy in the interception Department Francis and only a tall you the question here being is what they require they'd have to have the football they've got it marked inside the one yard line if they do not take the play it will force them into a fourth down and I have to punt it little third and 13 remember on the Viking 41 so now the Vikings are thinking do we want them to punt fourth and we'll see about the penalty or take over first and ten in the shadows of their own goal foes unload tangle Hoff conferring with but grant I've let them put single harp is an amazing study you don't hear much about him counting preseason games he's played in 295 pre-season regular and postseason games it's not going to be a fourth down situation better check that banner down the pike 33rd right with the family offensive pass interference third down okay Frank grant was caught grabbing though it is third and 23 for Bill kill me remember the Vikings put a vegetable backer inside the 5-yard line George Allen kinda cheerlead his ballclub back Kilmer needs a big one now he sends Jefferson wide left with Brad in a slot beam Fugate is split right I think it's a good decision Brown and Thomas blocker Filner complete the right Jefferson he belted by Wally hildenburg and dropped at the 35 yard line but he has another seven yards to go for a first down I wouldn't see a long field Gulf Coast most Mobley can cook the here comes Jefferson across from it or not Kilmer is scrambling to the ride Roy said give me the football Billy and he's got pop right there by he'll convert the ball on the 34 yard line Jeff seaman who has been playing a solid middle linebacker shaken up and had to come out fourth and six Joe Theismann will spot the ball at the 41 so Mark Mosley has been at 51 yards against a little win it is no good it was off to the right the gamble pays off and they get it at the 20 - trimming medals 234 by reshuffling the deck but grant gained about 19 yards [Music] keeps America comfortable America be a natural I do anything for Bill so when he said that he wanted comfortable breathable cotton shirt I bought a natural brown shirt with 60% more cotton cluster herbal press so bill gets cotton comfort and I get easy care natural blend is great because I do anything for Bill except iron shirt when you're looking for comfort look for the feel of cotton the more cotton better you feel 7 out of 10 cars on the road so they can use my Sunoco one-ninth it's made to sell below record look I wouldn't want to let my customers spend more money than they have to I can be very friendly yes I can it's my business and a mile and man I'll make sure you'll be - for images the Viking 34 so they'll put it in play their first in 10 they activate the McClanahan and give performing and a good gutsy tackle by Brad do sacra he would have picked up a ton co-ed in Reverse Brad who's that good stop just stop by the outside left linebacker for the residence second and nine the ball just shy of the Viking 35 yard line 11:50 to go in the second quarter and at 43 with God wide left Foreman is in a slot Amy white goes ride right talking in under a restaurant Albert de su boy who has knocked out of bounds by gusak and Houston just shy of the 40 yard line the only times two boys become two primary receiver Ben is when Parkington starts scrambling around when everybody else is covered that is the man he looks to to void the definition of the word scrambling by but grant is simple enough he refers to it as Frances defining time and the more time that he can buy the more successful he will be third and five on a Viking 39 yard line white is inside with God on a slot low forming in the front and back of targeted bargain is Pete Sami right all the frozen any Houston right there with him and Franz gotta get down on that one white had Houston speaking about a step and a half to the inside Sammy white can really turn it on he's got that smooth Glide the so deceptive been and that's how he beat those quarterback they think they have him covered all the sudden just glides an extra step target in his six for 11 and thanks for that sensational catch by Sammy wife he's gone for two touchdown Neil clay Bo's standing on his own 25-yard line Eddie Brown standing on his 25 ball gets a little heat but still able to hang it round signally Bear catching there's a flag on the play and what ball goes out of bounds and we'll see now if they ran into the pond t-shirt he had been hey just ran over clay ball they went for the punt block Dan Nugent comes charging in and there he cuts his legs out from under it well that's a big break for Minnesota course those punters anytime he's just barely grazes they're going to go down go Minnesota leading the league and holding onto the ball and that's just what they're going to do running into the kicker five yards first down the first down Minnesota on their own 44 yard line and leading 14 to 3 you Frank McClanahan was forming out in front of him what a block finally pushed out of bounds at midfield by Jake Scott I say a Chuck Foreman did not throw a cup wanted anybody but he just moved everybody about three yards five watch Foreman try and block the back and do it all and McClanahan follows the blocking very good now Steve Raleigh is really hustled over there and he holds his block it's a standoff and Foreman pushed his name burger baggage okay second and three the ball just moving over into Washington Territory now on the skins 49 and you give fan targeting a lot of these off with hitting second in free he's going to kill you McClanahan following Foreman still on his feet and finally restless standoff by Chris hanburger just about at the 45 yard line of Washington that would be just about enough for the first half alastair measurement across Minnesota 8 first down here in the first half from here it looks like it's in first down the Redskins only have one then it is not funny here's another look and watch mcclanahan following double for just warmin and surprisingly McClanahan is the leading rusher in his football game he's picked up 56 yards in five carry is supposed to be xavius by that 41 yards rip off on the first play of the game first in town on the Washington 45 yard line Rashaad wide left with Sammy white in the slot Lou Boyd on the right side McClanahan in motion Foreman runs right into day busting at five but and picked up a yard or two kind of handled and sitting hold on ed white going against Dave but that's a pretty good matchup both of them very strong ed white supposedly the strongest guy in the National Football League picked up one so it will be second and nine on the Washington 44:14 to three Minnesota we have 940 to go in a second for then here's the situation that target loves is the back first which would say are walking if they curl out of the backfield that's the number one package they hold the whole out and clocking in cinah planning and he's hit at the 40-yard line and drop drop by Jake Scott apply it down all Fran does in that instance is T the middle linebacker Pecos writers comes back to McClanahan Pat this time he went to the left and he knew he was going to throw back to the weak side white making a great tackle and I think he's called for it right there tying up Ron McDole Lucy that's what it is we could pick up the call here notice on his wife illegal use of the hands by the offense number 83 second down so it was to void who was thought and it looked like ed white decided to be the partner of the dancing bear Rohan Victo though it is second and 19 the wall on the Minnesota 46 yard line family white in a slot right inside Rashad Boyd on the left side bargaining consult on the goal our mod Rashad at the 19-yard line of Washington any Houston hit him and then went out of bound Vince Lombardi when he was with the Green Bay Packers we played against playing targeted so many times the cardinal rule was nevertheless plan targeted get outside of the pass run and that's exactly what ball McDowell did you ladies get out of the pocket that's where he kills you Rashad was on a short pattern changed it up went deep and he headed for the open spot beautifully no Minnesota totally controlling the ball and leading 14 to 3 when I say you then you never let him get to the outside the rush should always be against Hartigan on the outside forced him up into the pocket white right and rush on laughs well Steve Riley in a hurry Dennis Jacqueline Johnson was gone one way and Steve Riley the others and it'll be against Riley George Allen finded reach deep down into his bag of emotional tricks this club has been sat on by the Vikings so far outside of a field goal by Mark Mosley young lady in some anguish Oh there was a little jacket on his farm lettuce Heather Burgiss fans up here beliving so first and 15 on the Washington 24 yard line but granted piloted his club into a 14 to 3 lead and pocketing fine filmora Rashad right and Sammy wide left the backs of swish McClanahan informant Vikon Sammy way and he's got it go lavender trying to bringing down with one arm no lavender slipped a little bit and that enabled the football to be caught what market in back except Colfax in the block brick path protected now what glamour he turns his back on an out mood fanny white see that little slip right there that called the completion the first and goal for Minnesota on the Washington aid yard line over there so good for the Vikings on the wrist team everything against Danny white in a slide inside Rashad write the plan ahem across the five still on his feet and drag down at about the two Brad ducek the last man up you're watching what we call the offensive line is controlling the line of scrimmage a good cut here by McClanahan he's running as hard as I've ever seen him run he wants that yardage inside the tube though sucking and gold and that Viking has a lot to be happy for they're close to increasing a 14 to 3 leave he's been the mascot here ever since his franchise was established these Prague is in now to see tight end second and goal from the two Foreman his hit gets away from two men and scores he got away from Kenny Houston and joel lavender and washington tough but they should have had a whistle but he just barreled it over 66 yards i watch the second effort of tough Foreman they always folded a strength here about eight percent of the time with his left Foreman with his head down he's pushed back by Kenny Houston bite three he hits one of the linebackers Brad goosey is flipped to the outside this piece cuts down 14th by running this year bar Chuck it will take a man of the perpetual optimism of the George Allen not to get down now the kick is up it is good and the Vikings are leading 21 to 3 with 7 minutes and 43 seconds to go in the second quarter and the secured has been Paul Minnesota up to here I'm not the only one who runs through airports thousands of us do it every day rushing for meetings rusty well hurt knows what it's like to hurts has more cars all over the country more good people who can put out that extra effort to get you a waistband and it's good to know this hurts policy to hole your board or other fine car even if you're playing two hours late but all this would you rather rent from hurt the superstar and rent a car until recently microwave cooking has been done by time alone then General Electric introduced the automatic chef control it cooks many foods by the temperature you select not by the time it shuts itself off when your food is good and ready no more guessing no more watching you don't even have to be there GE microwave ovens with the automatic chef control another plus they're backed by customer care service everywhere holiday festivities on CBS continue tonight with a peanuts crew and there are Emmy Award winning special a Charlie Brown Christmas starting at 8:00 7:00 central Eddie Brown from his 5-yard line on a good blue 5 Freddy Cox and bran gets it out into a tangle across the 30 yard line for Washington they need a big play in in a hurry Minnesota leading 14 to 3 at the end of the first quarter I've added 7 more to make it 21 3 say on New Year's Day CBS Sports presents the prestigious Cotton Bowl undefeated Maryland ranked 5th in the UPI taking on the Houston Cougars the Southwestern Conference leaders and on January 2nd the Sun Bowl will be Texas A&M and Florida Gators first and ten from the Washington Turner gets Frank grant at the 45 and he's wrestled down by Bobby Bryant as he gets across midfield as a flag on the play and will see neither Sun late hit charts to Matt Blair when flying high just as the flag was drawn yes treatment has a bruised left leg the middle linebacker for devices is replaced by Amos mark the family indicated against Washington well it takes esteem now trailing by 18 points they get a first down good field position they move them back illegal use of the hands are the offense number 44 that would be John Ragan go Riggins find a block evidently for Kilmer to get that pass off to Frank grad and they thought Regan so that's possible back on the Washington 37 yard line seven minutes 24 seconds to go to the half when they move up the first down mark it's going to be first in about four or five yards here they come now the left flank drag to the right Roy Jefferson John Riggins inside a block by scope gets across the 40 fighting for the first down and it would appear as if he is right on the end they'll measure Minnesota with a lot to hear so far dominating the game reading twenty one two three seven minutes to go to the hand reason I was first before they picked up the first down on the pass completion and the penalties teams after he made the first down so they moved it back from the spot of the foul bad news for Jeff demon and the vite he had evidently pulled a calf muscle and they do not expect semen back in the game the rest of the day well his place will be taking my man's in Louisville Kentucky out of the University of Louisville 63 228 pounds known as a hitter Amos Mark Amos his first name is truly Anthony first and ten on the 41 and errors Jeff diamond he'll have to stand it out the rest of the way the 41 Jefferson was clad in a slot he'll get the tight in on the left side Mike Thomas following a Riggins lot that's out across the 45 a Miss Martin got his feet wet making the hill I tell you the experience of a great quarterback kilmer goes right at a Miss Martin Riggins almost ran over it here's Martin he submarines underneath the play there's ribs in he he's got white underneath the back Thomas second and six from the 45 of Washington 21 to 3 Minnesota 6 minutes 20 seconds to go to the half slide left second man Thomas behind Riggins but he couldn't run through paolello among others eller and Martin clogging it up Bell on five occasions this year the Vikings have given up over 170 yards rushing and I'm sure that George Allen with his computerized system over there I mean we've got to run the football against this team as this has not worked so far on the ground of ICD / a lot better third and four from the Washington 47 yard line often planned right Gilbert accepted by Nate Wright and Franklin holding down at the 35 yard line that's the third Minnesota in deception and they're just we captain grabbing that ball and we'll film again there was pressure on in the head of stunts on Carla went to the inside children to the outside there's eller he gives him Paul right in the nose now we pick up the football downfield it's overthrown make light is right there for Minnesota's third interception let's get ready to blow [Music] now comes Miller time it takes as much skill to bring down a building as it does to put one up a now's the time for the best tasting beer you can find Miller High Life if you've got the time we got the original [Music] Polaroid has made its finest camera even better the new sx-70 alpha one it has all the spectacular sx-70 features for instance you can get this close with the alpha one you out a special lens while this is the closest most other cameras will let you get some of the news monitor flash and the new super clear sx-70 film for even better color you Polaroid's new sx-70 alpha one five minutes and 32 seconds to go to the half Y one two three Minnesota the bikes will put the ball in play first in ten of their own 35-yard line play-action fake is Tarkenton for the left side an x-intercept is like a Houston at the 40 and he dragged down by Ronnie airy though Washington comes up with his second interception Minnesota has stolen three that same play went for a touchdown in the first half to stubo this time 10 Houston says brand not the second time I want to go to watch him he's moving over to the right he's trying to get it through his tight end through Boyd and kid Houston comes back from the outside for the interception said white getting buck Rodgers finally pulls him down 544 to go to the half Washington now time to get Pat I'm not in the first content on the Viking 36 yard line Filner to Mike Connor and he fumbled he was trying to follow Ron Shaw clock and Saul was out in front but Mike slipped him down he went nuts tougher to make sure he stayed down I wonder if George Allen on the side Mac maybe would go down to earth and action with George Allen he's thinking right now of Joe Theismann in the second half Billy its thrown to intercept is actually three one was the climb Earth here on first down again the riskier trying to run a week ride off tackle but they haven't had much success keeping my little home everything to be shutting off the money at that John Riggins is eaten up by Alan Hayes the only defensive player to make Most Valuable Player of the National Football League 1971 L&P so fade knocked him back to the Viking 42 yard line we have four minutes and 28 seconds to go to the half Calvin Hill in there with John Riggins now Mike Thomas humble fell and came out means Huget is the tight end Lloyd Jefferson born why drive and fight brand in a slide and figured has loosened off to the left he'll stay in the block Lily gets away from three and he's still going throwing on the run drop he was indebted for Larry Crowne hold onto it amazing how he got out of the rush and scrambled here Billy Killman eller and Paige really pinching him watch eller here he gets a hand on it as Doug hundred falling down as Coomer said I wrote it throw it and run it they get the threes open man in Dover in brown cannot hold on go forth and 16 on the Viking 42 and my bag will be picking deep three men back there Sammy white Leonard Willis and Autry demon with Leonard Willison middle man drag angling for the corner it's fielded by autry demon who falls down and is going to spot the ball in about the Minnesota 18 yard line but they'll put it in play first and 10 in the 18 a reminder the other side of the coin immunity tomorrow in Dallas where the Dallas Cowboys host the Los Angeles Rams Boston behead not 30 grams against the Cowboys the Minnesota first and 10 the ball on air 18 yard line Rashad wide right sandy white wide left a plant ahem to apply Minnesota started off the day by winning the sauce and they have won most of everything else they have kept the ball most of the time and they have 21 points to the red stink-free Parkington is 9 to 15 Kilmer is 5 for 11 Francis has thrown two interception and two touchdown and if you missed it you missed one of the great catch of the year by Sammy white second and eight on the 21 is forming behind Ronnie arey fins at the 25 and gets out to about the 27 the arey number 73 he leading the fact Ron hairy and all for almost every year he's been in the league and your veteran from USC and he's just really I guess you'd have to say he is the real scholar that offensive line been on Ferdie charts I guess over the years they've gone off the right side more than any other place they're going to be doing it for years since he signed a seven-year contract of he'll know that area third and 2 from the 27 of Minnesota to the 38 to go to the half planning in all alone now is forming his in a slide Francis is tripped up as he tried to cut that Ron McDole the dancing bear he was Paul led by Sonny Jurgensen and you can watch number 79 Ron McDole flip him on Ron McDole the defensive left in going against Ron Harry Carson as he always does now the last six or seven years in a playoff time he becomes a runner the goal at one time was released by the Vikings in 1975 the goal blocked a 45-yard field goal descent by Fred top to give washing in our most exciting 31 30 victory over Minnesota two minutes and six seconds to go to the half parking and looking down the right side for Rashad no good catfishing was there with him that way during time the two-minute warning coming up going into that dream in half if he wants to count at least the field goal bid though with two minutes left and a half Minnesota 21 Washington free Haley John Huston four-color track from RCA this seen the chips are read table green poster black RCA wanted to tell you the right colors because getting the color right is what their exclusive color track system is all about it's a remarkable development that actually adjusts the color you kicks of own practice before you see the color the colors back system granted aligned into trying to sharpen dead zones and lock the color on fire RCA is making television better and better service for your car sometimes you want it sometimes you need it but sometimes you don't you'd rather just fill up and go and that's why many exxon dealers also provide shelter to silent you can save time and money and still get X on quality X on with self-service for when you don't need help and full service for when you do [Music] two minutes left and a half Minnesota leading the Washington 20 one two three the Vikings have at second intent on their own 30 yard line don't again and a half time branch goes and earth will be with it and then we'll pick up the pieces and see what develops but there's still two minutes left of the head-knocking in the planning in the plan that time running into ed white who was under that pile white behind a block for him McClanahan ran into him and then he was tackled by Harold McClendon let's take a timeout here it's gonna bring up a third down situation they want some hands on that football and take every chance they can to put the points on the board there's that little cubby hold on our three stars are in bed there they are ran the three herb courses on the field and that beautiful lady silhouetted to the left how you get a job like that work those kind of people huh talking about a job what a job Fran Tarkenton but ran and the Vikings have done for the first half it reminds us that in that game in 75 it's all Washington get out in front of the Vikings 21 to nothing and Minnesota came roaring back Washington hanging on to win 31 30 and you can bet that at halftime George Allen who thrives on emotionalism will try very hard to lift his veteran ballclub up and remind them about them where are they come back all year long they were counted out about the sixth seventh game of the year to pick themselves off the map and that's the character this football team you can not count the Redskins out they've got character third and seven the Viking 30 and then equipped me to go to a half down the right side and yoga clothes Foreman Brad ducek was over there with him he led him to money he got hung up Brad ruzek did a good job of cooking just chucking Foreman up to just mess up the timing on the play playboy though Neil flavo whose longest part of the year 55 and as you see he punted twice today see if they go for the puck walk here standing all alone is Eddie Brown on his own 32 yard line 146 to go to the hand 21 to 3 Minnesota Malin tech charging but couldn't get in Browne has to back up on his own 17 yard line on a seat across the 30 and goes out of the 32 with MADD player sitting on top level so watching it with one and 34 as you see down by 18 point trying to do something before the half runs out though it's got two timeouts to work with here he's 5 for 11 is Gilmer for a 69-yard body has tossed a few interception call folks home a couple that should have been caught playing grant wide right and Roy Gaveston left Riggins and Thomas stay here now they released in the past to Thomas he still 40 and dragged down crossing the 40 Amos Martin finally pulling down at the 42 yard line in case of the backs blocking in in releasing hurry up offense there they'll change the change move them up Michael stop Gillies go to work first and 10 on the Washington 44 Gill Murray completes the Thomas and again Martin is on top of him lost the ball long after the whistle I'm out George Allen goes through his first days signals looks like he's third place those everything got all the all the movements over there George Allen 54 years old one of only a couple of coaches who have won over a hundred games in his career he's 107 Don Shula Tom Landry and Hank Stram are the other three it'll be second and three with the ball on the 39-yard line when they put the ball in play your gallon has had a great career 11 years in the National Football League six years at Washington his winning percentage is $6.99 and his career winning percentage 718 and Bud Grant winning percentage is 720 and winners winners is right Hanus partners taking over with Jeff seaman hey four tackles there he is right there standing talking to bud grant I notice Bobby Lee was kind of throwing the ball on the sidelines man and that little scramble to Trant are being made for the first down he got up he wasn't hurt he looked like he was at 100% when he went back to the hollow Bobby Lee was showing on the sideline a minute and three seconds to the half second and three from the Viking 49 Kilmer no good intended for Roy Jefferson and a trio of bikes were there yep right Bobby Bryant and he also got help is Martin drop banks Oh eight seconds they got the expert defensive back in the missile defense third and three coming up here and sit back swing out of the backfield both teams use it so well as their offense on third down situations they'll go to the back on those we will hook patterns against the Vikings it's a good play the closer normally in that zone defense is to prevent one job for backhauls Houston wanting team in the picture he's 13 yards back playing free safety gentleman looking right flowing right and leading his men might Thomas no good Nate Allen was right there with him he had the release clerk good pressure our fourth and three on the Viking 49 it's 21 to 3 Minnesota they've had 14 to 3 at the quarter and they picked up another touchdown in fact all three of their cuts down drive to Minnesota all three have been 66 yards in length consistency now our two Jules Tarkington has been consistent for 50 here's mr. dillert cranking it up and then releasing flowed a big Fugate who has hit at the 40-yard line and dropped immediately and it was Paul Klaus who made the tackle that's enough for the first down 40 seconds left Kilmer getting his man up in a hurry max is split that is told a quick turnaround the flank plant and he steps out of bounds at the 35 yard line it was neat right pushing him out I've got one timeout remaining then and we've got 30 seconds remaining to the half so a veteran ballclub trying to use every grain of sand in an hourglass now the most interesting study second and six from the 35 of Minnesota and it would be very much of an emotional lift if Washington suhara to get on the scoreboard before going into the locker I'd say that'll be a big part of George Allen speech at halftime if they can put at least three points on the board walk left ran inside Jefferson music right heavy Russian elite by Marshall Annette messed him up Jim Marshall eco high in the air the Kilmer could not get rid of the ball and any was very 17-year veteran from Ohio State they brought Bob Larssen in here about five years ago hoping to replace Jim Marshall Erskine now playing with Seattle Marshall is still here here's the receiving but Frank Brandt gets knocked down by Nate Wright and he fun Friday to Roy Jefferson and that took him out of the play as well Kilmer had to scramble to the left and he got caught by the rush well his partner playing for the injured Jeff diamond over to join the huddle 24 seconds to the half meanwhile the other side Lilly Kilvert talking to George Allen trying to find that homerun ball an amazing thing for a man who has spent a lifetime in football and everybody who follows the game at all knows how devoted to the game George Allen is nevertheless whenever he is trying to give you an example he invariably talks in baseball he will talk for instance about the ticking to a Fred Kocher and he said you start monkeying around with the shoe he said it's like baseball you start monkeying around with baseball bat you're going to have trouble making contact he's constantly talking in baseball language while he lived so well in the football world third and 14 on the Minnesota 43 yard line 24-second did you see left to go to the half dougen wide left plant inside Jefferson life line holding up until Filner hesitates and then lets a long one go in the ends oh no let me take a look at Frank branch because it looked like he had it and look like he had it two yards deep in the end zone Kilmer got out of the rough stepped up into the pocket watch my plan Hill it's a little dig pattern and he's just trying to go deep into the end zone hoping for at least interference he's got Brian feet Paul cows the free safety comes over right there he took his eye off of it he had a hold of it then you're left that way Lotus fourth and 14 in that course there are so many plays you can call a big play but knowing how badly Washington needs to get on the boards before the half that could be tremendous play fourth and 14 16 seconds to go to the half Gary Smith is in there now no good it was intended for Franklin with Jerry Smith laid deep at the 10-yard line so at 11 seconds to go to the half Billy Kilmer missing after it look like we have a touchdown Harold a defensive line for Minnesota just putting on they're not getting food when that cackling that must been but for putting enough pressure we're building would like to hold the football maybe a second or two seconds longer and give these receivers a chance to break a little bit deeper but that defensive line is making Billy release a little bit quicker the quarterback will not be frank talking little Bob Lee lady is going to go gambling right away beat down the right side no incentive for Sammy white a collision with gang Houston but they were both going after the ball even though Bud Grant and the Viking fans feel that there was interference well you see Kim Houston looking back at the football now white is on the outside of him both men have a right to the football I think it was a good call for our seconds to go talking and certainly well enough to talk to his coach Bob leans in there at quarterback well they pulled out Francisco City College his running back was OJ Simpson I'd say that was a pretty good way to have around Wow what a pack I tell you they pulled out all the stops in this one you think Gus grant plays conservative football he means an 18 point lead and he's going for the bomb right here second and 10 on the 43 4 seconds to go to the hand and Lady gone after another one case by Nicole and Bonnie goes with the goal and Brundage and Talbot and as we go to halftime [Music] here's a space-based gift the kids from RadioShack original Space Patrol walkie talkie you get two for just 1495 a pair and they really work their crystal controlled and battery operated just like dad's biggest CB units and their built-in radio stacks own electronics factory so this Christmas thrilled your kids with a 1495 a pair space patrol only at RadioShack at Endicott for 1977 a new Ford Granada was brought to Germany for its toughest ride test against a twenty thousand dollar mercedes-benz the testing was conducted by German engineers to evaluate riding smoothness they drove the cars over a variety of road surfaces including cobblestone inside their sensitive vibration recorded for greetings and it showed this in 75% of the test conditions the Granada and the Mercedes rode with virtually the same level of smoothness then to evaluate quietness of ride interior sound levels were measured in decibels on the international DBA scale their findings at every speed tested the Granada consistently wrote as quiet as the Mercedes is exactly for Americans feared the Sierra nada and isn't it smitten theater the myth cedar satellite-based board engineers have achieved this level of quietness and smoothness at the modest price of a Granada when America needs a better idea Ford puts it on wheels Sunday's on Kojak man who died a year ago make a motion screaming back to life he tried to follow me Franco is dead we got to show your bomber running around exploding these things at will so we pay in a silver plated apartments Austin clown wallet customers was killed a Kojak thriller some dip 9 8 central and welcome to our cozy studio here in Bloomington Minnesota I'll tell you some first half and it's been all Minnesota but one thing about your talent teams they never quit to stick around for that second hair yesterday I was saying why are they so loose careful relax out there they were unbelievable notices the minute courtesy you have a poisonous before the big game I didn't understand that now we know why they are flying higher than a kite and we've seen a lot of Hail Marys attempted here today like this spectacular one to Sandy white I can't wait to see that one again there was some play but if I'm interested in your point about it now in looking at the replay carefully Kenny Houston's coming across on the ball he's going for the interception it looked like you had a good shot but what you're saying is going to clear it out away well you know because the back maintain the ball in here you try to go ahead and get it now Houston was going down it was in good position but he had really overreached to get it it's been a question in mind about it get both hands off again sand it down to the ground drive at the helm because when you bet it up the way it did no you get spectacular kitchens where they got ours anyway we're going to see that play a little bit later in the pregame however there is a major Davis Cup story unfolding you know the United States has lost each of the last two years for Mexico an update let's go to Gary bender and suicide I'm Gary bender and I'm Marty Rison and yesterday's story was Roscoe Tanner's defeat of Raul Ramirez okay Marty let's see the final game of Tanner straight-sets victory over Ramirez if he does have a lavaliere head to it back yeah I don't be timed turn around make some flaky passenger hi you got a touch a wing in your case with if you end up heaven with a lob all right yep so far now you could early back in overhead and behind a back on back down the line and you stay in there now you might want to come back the other way with one norming pull with that cross quarter which is really your natural job all right vs. don't if I disturbing them with a toy and keep went into the quarry all right first the purser was closing out right here make his favorite and close him out he did Marty a remarkable comeback by Roscoe Tanner down one five in the first set but he's one down one five net per set and three set points at five one but now he's come back to lead two sets to love and he's up five four here this is the most remarkable comeback and victory for Roscoe Tanner there he is calling it the hug his lone Tony Trabert advice first serve in came in put a winning volley away 15-love Roscoe Tanner calls this his greatest victory well I think it is he D Jimmy Connors at Wimbledon but this is even a better one for him I've got another serve in two he Ramirez can't return it and he's up 30-love it seems very calm out there going through this match Maris touched the ball mr. van Canyon flipped that volley and Ramirez can't get to a Kent spammable Roscoe Tanner the United States and Tony Trabert stand at match point it suppresses a smile I think he's a pretty happy man he thinks Rosco's got it there it is Matt the United States Roscoe Cantor played a great match this is just a fantastic win thank you Roscoe Tanner and straight sets the happy young man well it sure is and he's given you at the big lead here 1 0 over Raul Ramirez in Mexico great going Roscoe now what you've done first sir you know everybody talks about 1980 we don't care now but look at all the good volley she got the sitter and instead of we're not to an inside out lately with crap you didn't good sound quality even when he's figure is he's selling up a ball by you yeah okay the kind of thing your IQ stand at thirty love love thirty-two look at it look at it look at it if you see it you're going to make okay newest 240 personalizes five and six that right now to Brent Musburger and Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington bender thank you very much theorem and Phyllis is so interesting to hear Tony Trabert coaching down there on the sidelines and of course the job that he is doing with that theme when you consider that Jimmy Connors has refused to play because his mother says that he needs the rest now we've got more coming up is the NFL today continues on CBS right after this word from your local station floria's announcement that she may be pregnant again surprises Mike on all in the family tonight at 9:00 8:00 central on CBS you back in half nine in Bloomington Minnesota the Vikings leading the Redskins by a score of 21 3 second game today out on the west coast Oakland against New England it's going to be a great one folks making their first playoff appearance in 13 years the New England Patriots are the surprise of the postseason their success started when Chuck Fairbanks settled on Keith Groban as the quarterback well today New England faces the uphill task of beating the Raiders in Oakland but broken and his teammates already have beaten Oakland once this season you'll remember but you can't blame coach Fairbanks for thinking along with Tony Bennett the best is yet to come you I'm headman Al Davis probably had that music pieces required viewing on the part of the hill invaders and also tomorrow coming up on CBS Dallas in Los Angeles we'll be pulling out right after this game but Pat Summerall is down there where he'll be working with Tom book shire so let's go to Pat now for a report all right Brent there's nobody at Texas Stadium but us in the Los Angeles Rams right now they'll be matched up against the Cowboys tomorrow and there still has been a lot of speculation here but not only by Ram coach Chuck Knox right now watching his team practice along with the assistants still been a lot of questions about who is going to be the quarterback for the Rams as you know Pat Haden started last week but was injured Saturday night against Detroit and there's been a lot of speculation about who it will be earlier today before practice in fact Tom Brookshire talked with Pat Haden well Pat you don't look luned today you're going to be the starting quarterback how is the knee honestly how's it feel it feels very good I just live with our train of the past week and it's responded very well to treatment I practice on the last two days and it's going to no problem no excuse for me you ought to sculpt they looked inside the knee a little bit able to get that out that keeps them at me cut that right yeah and I was very relieved it didn't have to cut on it and like I feel fine and we're looking forward to the ball game Pat have you ever seen two tall Jones you and I hit right into his numbers that's an incredible defensive line right there really are good they played so well all year long and they're playing their defensive playing super right now so we're gonna have to execute we've hopefully we've got some things on our game plan it's going to take advantage of some of the things we do well and we feel they do poorly but which are too many but like I say it's we have to execute play awfully well big game for a big quarterback alright Pat Haden by the way Patrick in 60 completions he had eight touchdowns I don't know if that's one of the all-time factors about but it is as far as I'm concerned let's go back up to you upstairs so that's pretty much the story from Dallas it'll be confirmed by Chuck earlier today it'll be Pat Haden at quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams and of course Roger Staubach for the Cowboys right now we're just warming up your chairs and getting ready for the miners pregame show time but Musburger high also storage and my scrap first what do you think about the game tomorrow well I'm gone with the Cowboys Wow I like the quarterback all right what do you think about the game tomorrow I think that's gonna be a pretty good bang well we still got time let's take a look at some of the plays for the first half because I'm sure that everyone wants to see that Sammy white sketch again let's start off with the first offensive way Brandon Trent McClanahan look at the hole it was opened up boys with a block Foreman with a block and he gets down to the 25-yard line at being a 41-yard Paul Ryan is been telling our game Direction Tony burner to watch this - boy the way he keeps getting open on his replays and here is paid off talking in the voice and he gets in it was a touchdown and after the extra point is a 700 smoothly hit the field goal back came the bikes and here it is folks Houston is there and now in slow motion one of the greatest catches I have ever why consider the concentration right now going on with Sammy white as he rolls over and gets in and it was 14 3 and then talking to his otherwise receiver a marvelous Schad to the 25 and after this reception of course the Corman got in for the touchdown and it was 21 free and here is that score quickly what does Washington have to do to get back in because the one who will do defend against Cooper plays over they have to do something you threw out the right side of the defensive line but it was a great success running over the left guard and tackle all right the NFL today will continue with the second half of Minnesota Washington TDs and just a moment good now I'm good again oh wait a minute I want to give you a gift for a little own company just for you watch enjoy I can only be serious plus guys by Christmas give her a diamond it's forever at Bell Laboratories we're working on an incredible new way to transmit phone calls listen as light turns into sound the beam of light in this glass fiber can also carry telephone calls and other electronic communications it can do the job better and cheaper than expensive copper phone wires in a system now being developed a few strands of glass fiber can carry as many calls as bulky copper cable there's another advantage to replacing copper wires with glass fibers we'll never have to worry about running out of the natural resource needs to make them it's called sand the bail system nearly a million men and women working together with one common goal to keep America's phone system the best in the world the bank robbery involving the marshals sons enum both kills there's nothing I could do tried we and know what to do with the traitors and they'll kill him for sure four men are gonna hang for something they didn't do and they're just sitting face you I just want to get back a car for never Dean around give my chance JD John Wayne Cahill US Marshal next week on the CBS Wednesday night movie everybody Vin Scully along with Paul Hornung welcoming you back to Bloomington and we start the second half Greg Kot signaling he's ready and here we go twenty one three biking he thunders it to Ed Brown on the Washington 5 15 25 and pregnant Neil among others makes the first hit and down he goes across the 25 yard line here are the numbers and part of the story of the first half they don't tell you about that 41 yards quick purse by print McClanahan had set up the 18 yard touchdown pass to see Voight they don't tell you about the miraculous catch by Sammy white and they don't tell you about form in Beijing yard scamper for a TV but they do tell you enough first and ten from the Washington 27 kill me over the middle - Jefferson right through his hands and now it is becoming a case of walking and receivers just not hanging out of the ball fall that's a strong side Patrick attacked we were talking about earlier here's Philly pundit Enzo going back he hits this quick and throws his goods anybody in the league right there and it has to be a perfect pass as you can see the Vikings are in that zone incomplete Fran Tarkenton who had Bob Lee come in and finish up the first half evidently is okay second and 10 from the Washington 27 Mike Thomas in his slot left Kilmer is diving tried by Roy Jefferson but he was out of bounds oh no cat and when you think about it pushes over simplifying but you had the remarkable catch by Sammy wife and then the catch that was not a high five man Frank grant had a touchdown and just took his eye off of it in a crowd that's a big spread a point right there fourth team Washington does not have to get out of their game playing man I'm sure at halftime he said look the most important thing as far as George eiling's is really concerned I would think right now man they're going to move the foot they got a score first here in the third quarter if the Vikings score first thing they've got a throw away the game plan and go upstairs third and 10 under 21 Larry Brown staying in the block Gummer down a little juggled and drop by beam cubit a boy they put a vise on and get light and paul house along with matt glare they would finally catch it McCloud couldn't do it Kilmer put it right on the numbers Billy goes Bacchus is a great pass on a post pattern with gene shook and he had the first down he just couldn't hold on budget and I'll tell you he threw that into traffic right on the button well my bag will be funning from his 13 yard line Leonard Willis standing deep on the Viking 35 Mike were coming but he got it all there's Leonard Willis case by rusty Killman but he gets away from him and still Dell just grabbed him by the neck and threw him out of bounds the Viking defense stops Washington immediately and gives the Viking offense a field position with an 18 point lead and that's dangerous Parkington is the quarterback for Indy that's Bobby Lee Wally hildenburg came within Zac much to blocking that punt the 34-yard punt 11 yard retired in the bicycle the first and ten on their own 49 markers any an emotion gut farted into a gang the first man to touch him with big day butts and that slowed things up no published today either on the ground and this is so important Washington trying to run John Reagan's this guy four times for one yard and Mike Thomas nine times for 22 meanwhile Minnesota has been able to hold out of the ball most of the day Foreman is away after 37 and the mining hand is 8 for 67 second and seven from the 48 of Washington a plan ahead fighting his way inside the 45 before he's dropped by Ron McDole here's so many coaches in theory say you run at the strength Minnesota Vikings have really run at the left side and that's where all pro for so many years chris hamburger is and they're double-teaming at the point of the attack their environment Chuck Foreman has gotten inside of hamburger on most occasions today Abdo on the stop Washington 43 yard line where it's third and two for the Vikings convention at the start of the game the Vikings on number one total plays per game they got the strength to the left side let's see a fan goes over like he did they go back to the weak side hand into a cloud and it's just a question of where they spot the ball where is it did we make it man the only climbing up maybe a little bit short now Bud Grant and everybody has called him conservative I want to say something I've seen him on the open opening series in a regular season game on his own 24 yard line forced and a half a foot he goes for it on occasion though they need that much you're watching I better go I don't know about this they're going for it and shut Foreman throwing his hands high in the air hit to say thank you coach he answered this question of press conference yesterday but Grant said if we have a play on 4th and 1 and we think we could pick up a yard I don't care where it is we're going to go far well here they go they're two tight ends plagued on the right side Boyd on the Left Foreman but any question we were going to give it to there was it and talk about a stairway to paradise they ought to play that music like a foreign hide I'm Dave Despain the BAM Cunningham on shorty what you now the stairway to pirate I got the latter ego you think he's a scuffle basketball he got up about 50 inches there turned him upside down to paint well before using okay first contend the ball on the Washington 40-yard line they just did make it rush on wide ride with white in a slot void on the left side a plan ahand motion marketing going back to the class so they sent him in motion and they hit him on the 35 lavender and hanburger bringing him down this is because Washington's on man-to-man defense there is hamburger there the man with through boy and outside the cornerback lavender has McClanahan man-to-man the ball under Washington 33 yard line miles from the Minnesota cloud it is second at about 3:00 Rashaad ripe Danny white left Boyd on the left side [Applause] just Foreman trying to go inside McClanahan dropped the ball and Minnesota's print McClanahan recovered the fumble okay that's when everything's going right that farm boy possibly if it had not a bounce ride would have been a Washington football that touchdown pass that semi white team up within the first half that great catch it just happened to be bouncing light look at that right into the hands of McClanahan if McClanahan had left his feet throwing the block that wouldn't have been any way to recover the ball instead he was in a hand fight on the edge so he was still standing the ball just bounced right sergeant and they get a first down before I say one thing if the rest of this team goes the way it's going Washington had been a drive home carefully they have not gotten a break all day everything has come up roses from Minnesota and under the weather conditions no reason why there was about 43 degrees with no breeze and a strong Sun it's a very pleasant day and this kind of field that the Vikings won a lot of people said they wanted so a nice no but the type of offense they had they want to be able to throw the football and cut first and ten on the skins 30-yard line harkening going down the right side the Rashad and it's out of the ballpark catfishing was there with him but they left hounded laughter that one at the fade out pattern man-to-man and you know so many people go after that Fisher on that play but keep in mind once that he's the most experienced quarterback on bump and run because he gets it thrown adding so many times during the year he actually defends against that past better than any quarterback he is five feet nine inches tall on the other side you have your lavender who is six for that they're going to throw that little pile of it would take it a grand position and what a fighter is huh there's Joe at six for second and 10 from the 30 of Washington Gorman on a big hole across the 20 across the can be somebody's ass in touchdown land something else baby Danny be set first pecker every time gate shot was grasping at a memory you'll watch him run around over 13 look at this move here boom got off see you later daddy oh he could pick it up double for Warren for so many years by the great home run hitter Henry Aaron he can hit the home run in the football field I can tell you that being congratulated by me and Alan get out his second touchdown of the day then 27 2 3 Minnesota the Minnesota Viking and Washington by the wharf on it right now twenty-eight two three [Music] you know even in a plastic world something should never change like blue jeans there's nothing plastic or phony about him they're made of cotton look at the label 100% cotton denim why jeans fit natural feel natural and wash cotton clean okay yeah you can't be 100% it's me John you would be a denim jeans are all cotton then I'm denim jean bill [Music] tonight teeth the superb line against your favorite a California wine made predominantly from the French column bard grade a superb grape that is used to enhance the flavor of Julio Gallo Minnesota shooting down the Redskins 28 to 3 10:47 to go on the third floor Eddie Brown from the 10 to the 25 to the 30 and 5 playing down tumblr and hall and Kraig and diamond McNeil Billy Kilmer will you talk about an uphill fight now first intent on his arm 30 and Minnesota leading 28 to 3 you could refill the slips in its go boys let's go emotion Mike Donovan Filner refugee and he makes a great cat Bobby Brian went nose to nose with him just shy of midfield so Dean fugitive makes it first down at midfield attest it's a funny game Fugate by the way in his eighth playoff game he was a big part in last year's gala miraculous ically over Minnesota German past attorneys Dallas career touchdown passes caught six already this year first and ten from midfield Kilmer hesitates throws over the middle off deficit hands no cats find Nate Wright the Roy Jefferson fine a fingertip it and he can't do it you want to talk about a tight roll back what's this high wire rack being just inbound by Chuck Foreman you can always work for Ringling Brothers when he quits football right on the chalk tippy throwing in second intent from midfield pullman sent grand left in jefferson white you get high down on the right side Mike Thomas hit and he's out to the 40 to the 35 to the 30 and finally dragged down by Bobby Bryan at the 30 so my Thomas Cook open for 20 through the left line good run by Mike Thomas here the Redskins very desperately need put seven on the board here because back against the grain here he broke the tackle from Doug southern he cuts outside going to pick up 20 good block by Grant on Paul Krauss and Bobby Bryant stopped him out there pick up the 20 in the first down first is been on the Viking 30 humor who released the Wiggins who makes a remarkable cat and Swagger's to the 20-yard line John Wiggins coming out of a crowd after apparently staying in to block fullback delay against the grain billy rolling out to left he knows Riggins is back on the right side he's going to slip on a little delay here they're almost like a basketball pad and Riggins one-handed gets it into his body very close to the first down they're checking it now the ball is right on the Viking 20-yard line it started on the Washington 30 do they move 50 yards and in a hurry and they picked up the first down 28 to 3 Minnesota and the Redskins firing off the floor nine and a half minutes to go in the third quarter [Applause] Joerg Alan find a will has seen across the goal-line grant in his flat right inside Jefferson and motion Thomas [Applause] Riggins Reagan's got a good block from Saul he took care hildenburg and I gave him four or five yards Brian and Amos Martin finally coming up to make the tackle heinous Martin has done a fine job this afternoon filling in for Jeff seaman can a bruised left leg will not play anymore today an Amos mark who's really not seen that much action this year and I'd middle linebacker spot the Riggins picked up four to make a second and six from the 16 yard line remember in the first half John carried the ball four times for only one yard Thomas emotion over to Frank grant he's got a first down as he is knocked out of bounds at the 5 yard line and the back leg on the play back just to of flying all the way from the end zone all the way up to the 9 yard line I would think it's against Washington and it is they've got to get into 7 here VIN right away they've got to get that 7 points back and just hope that that deep pissed and get a turnover a fumble offensive pass interference number 82nd ow Laroy Jefferson is caught pushing an edge ten yards and makes a second and 16 from the 26 another big turnaround is good having the football inside the ten with the first down on the sidelines a Miss Martin along with Jeff Wright second down and 16 left in the middle him second at 64 the 26 Gilmer looking into the corner fly for Jefferson reading too much Bobby Bryant over there with him we're out left devis timing was not perfect on the plane over strong Billy a little bit disgusting well its third and 16 from the Viking 26 looking into that Sun coming from the right of your screen here but plant watching his Vikings who are leading by 25 points with 8 minutes and 19 seconds to go in the third 40 and Billy Kilmer 11 4 26 somehow kind of make the key fit the lock third and 16 big rush completes the Frank plant inside the 20 and they'll bring him down at about the 17 yard line a big reception for Frank grant and he was hit hard by Bobby client and also Nate Allen but he held on to it again comer on his family he's got the pressure he then you have time enough to look downfield jump over Alan page sonic grabbing from behind he qualifies these particular Frank grant and Bobby Bryant stomping I think we're going to spring in Moseley so it's fourth down the ball is on the 7 18 yard line with a crowd of fakes here with Joe Theismann the ball will be spotted on the 25 Oh at the 35-yard field goal defense Mosley hit one in the first quarter it's good psychologically I guess half a loaf is better than none but but they have to remember that completed tab or would have made it Kirsten gold from the five and they walk all of that on the penalty so they settle for three twenty eight six Minnesota you're watching but beechwood TV producer and writer I'm a risk my neck for fun but when it comes to money I want my feet on solid ground that's what I told Merrill Lynch well they sure will be ways to be on the safe side and still get a good return like eight percent utilities a rated that's my kind of security at Merrill Lynch you don't have to take big risks to share an America's Grumman Sun could I use your car tonight sure don't forget to put some gas in it every family should have at least one diehard because the diehard has extra power to start your car when most batteries well so long let's see seven minutes and 24 seconds to go in the third quarter 28 to 6 Minnesota and here we go it would be wintered willis 14 hit hard by Ted Fritz before he could get to the 25 the fresh one of the specialty men puts me down to hit Willis and take him out and they'll spot the ball on the 23 yard line the Washington scoring drive that wound up with a 35-yard field goal so they have two field goals the 47-yard field goal by Mark Mosley an hour 35 but Vikings comfortably sitting on top of a 28 to 6 lead and then both Foreman and McClanahan could be headed for a hundred yards rushing game Foreman 74 yards and 15 serve McClanahan 17 that apply hand bursting out across the 30 yard line Harrell McLennan down at the bottom at the ankle the boy with that quick speed he was blue and wide open in the bottom man getting up very slowly is Kenny Houston beat him up but offensive line of the wife is flying off the football they're controlling the line of scrimmage you get a guy like Foreman put him just two steps into the secondary gets by the linebacker it seems almost every time and he can pick him up and lay him down second in two from the 32 right in a fried inside with God and it's mcclanahan again hit hard headfirst by McClinton and from the back by day but well how many times a day we've seen the Vikings with the second two second three that is a big key you know you said Paul at Minnesota is beating them up front and they're winning 28 is it can you remember a game or a club beat another team without beating them upfront you know you got it that's the name of the game then it's blocking it factly you hadn't changed for 50 years we're much more sophisticated today nationally we've got a lot more different hats route but I want to tell you get the guys with five guys up front they win the battle there they're gonna win it well they picked up the first down first and ten from the 34 yard line of Minnesota McClanahan now is 11 carry for 80 yards and remember McClanahan came into this game with a rushing average of only 2.9 here he is over 7 a carriage so to give it the McClanahan and he goes out to the 45 yard line and they just can't stop him he picks up another 11 yard so that 12 carries for 92 yards wanted white Mon yard work on the right side area 62 in white going in stayed but cost blocking Giri blocked down and Ed white goes out and pushes Ranma go see the outside the quick hitting McClanahan is very very close to another first down would Victor Keane form a little bit too much the planta has his best day of the year second down and about one Minnesota fans enjoying the weather enjoying the game and the planning is line everything so I worked up here with the Vikings from five years in the radio broadcaster it's to this it's the most unbelievable day December you'll ever see up here halos Foreman outside the area still on his feet and dragged down as we cross the 45 yard line Harrell McClinton is seems to be making a look at all of the tackles now finally dragging him down ooh 13-yard pickup Foreman out of the full-back position i watch the double team on the outside McClanahan had a good block by Steve Craig here comes Foreman back oh what a forearm what was that I was kidding Houston almost tore his head off finally stopped on the clip for another first down form and now has 89% Lichtman 43 and it's Foreman stand but he's dodged one attempt to tackle by big shots he ran into several others and I close him down for the moment you know that plants are doing right now to event picking up the yardage on the ground he's eaten up a lot of valuable time off that clock is three quarters almost history it's four minutes left to go they're controlling the football and tarty then you'd give him five or six yards he can pick it up on the ground who so stuff it right down your throat why go away from something's good that's keep it on the ground that is a beleaguered front floor for Washington now with McDole and Brundage Talbert and Johnson it taking quite a heavy pounding second and nine from the Washington 42 that's the satellite casing in his teeny Houston and finally whistles and down at the 30 yard line and now there's almost moved the ball at will at the mother first down it comes out with a packing situation man-to-man Sammy white his third set to the afternoon I got a little move he's got 10 Houston man-to-man actually got to give him four or five yards the first and 10 for Minnesota on the Washington 30-yard line the pans are alive here they're happy with the 22 point lead Sammy wife wide right Ahmad Rashad wide left in the Conahan in motion and it's Foreman somehow pushing for another couple at the bottom was tiring powdered Fran Tarkenton was quoted earlier is saying there are two things he believed in with all his heart the Sammy wife should be the Rookie of the Year and that Chuck Foreman is the most valuable player of the Minnesota Vikings he's the best draft pick that they ever suck here at Minnesota before Forman arrived here they're running attack was like 2 yards 3 yards and he always been a passing situation this guy has changed at all targeting on to give him about 10 percent of Esau he's going to keep him playing another 10 here McClanahan tied up by hand burger at the top he had him from the back and then he let go once he had slowed him up Brad goose egg put him away Minnesota won the opening toss and they have won just about everything else all day put a good team protecting the lead to when you save him I should say and want to lead 22 points with two minutes and 19 seconds to go in the third quarter third and six from the 26 Danny white wide right Ahmad Rashad wide left that goes to faxes coming out of the backfield in the morning Benson on Tigers almost go out biking in over the middle this new boy he was in front of Jake Scott and just beat him any guy inside the 15-yard line he reiterates food Boyd is only caught 28 cartridges here that's good for this tight end believe but against washing the last time out he caught eight and Fran Tarkenton goes right back to it he makes the big pick and he's going to cook their hands this is a good football player Boyd very underrated we have a minute and 30 seconds to go to the end of the third quarter Fran Tarkenton playing with house money now a big lead time is a factor on his side and he close to bringing home another one first and ten from the twirl McClanahan following forming here to the 10 and goes fall at 3 yard or two more it's been pulling out all the stops on defense now they had a safety blitz every linebackers filling the hole in the gaps you get one of those facts Foreman in McClanahan that happens to split it they're catching a blocking order though right to the goal line second and seven from the nine with less than a minute to go in the third quarter 28 to 3 in Minnesota Rashad right Danny wide left back stay in for the moment then Willie sandy white cuts down he just took it away from Jill Ravinder he beat Joe lavender on adjust the corner pattern this is square out Pammy what three touchdowns last week and came out today with his putt to cut down path we look at a path protection bed he just looked to the left penny white they needed to be honest far out it is thirty four to six Minnesota and the Redskins you tried to surround the wagon train has been D horse oil France markings caught up just an excellent football game he's like a surge in there he just cut you apart he'll nickel and dime here go for the bomb he says it's the best two wide receivers he's ever thrown to his professional football Rashaad semi what this guy might be a National Football League Player of the Year this keeps up in the playoff white leading the Washington Redskins 35:6 with 37 seconds left to go in the third quarter it's fine to match the peace-pipe sooner or later you're gonna get some white house and when you do or we gotcha [Music] maybe we'll get you with the early American job with 25 Invincibles for the decorator done for all going all gift box [Music] Lester he'll wear the same outfit every show but I don't so I start with Haggar slacks and for today's matinee I'll add this Haga top for the supper show and at midnight this great suit look all outfits of m'kraan polyester double knit 5 so I can afford to look like a headliner so answered by me Haggar slacks because here doesn't make em for dummies Hager Americas that's no name in slacks in it salute Fred Cox is asked to kick off again as Minnesota leading thirty-five to six with 37 seconds left to go in the third quarter ready fictive deep to Eddie Brown at the 5 behind the webs to the 20 and he was hit hard there by Fred McNeill after Windland Hall just live a whole wedge dance we see that he threw home right into it Linden Hall will not get much publicity but he just wiped out a way great play by the special team and there is the contrast Bud Grant on the phones listening to Jerry Byrnes and George Allen listening to his special drummer at this stage of the game 35 6 Minnesota first and 10 Washington on their own 23 Jefferson wide left he'll get on the left side grant right they really split Wiggins and Thomas to block the pass to Jefferson doubled and carried out of bounds no catch Bobby Bryan and Wally hildenburg there well he said he was going to go to the strong side passing attack which he has done but we've had four I'd say four fives off passes today that one was juggled he would have caught him it would have been a completed pass before he got out side on the sidelines for Minnesota Bob Lee is loosening up again remember he was in for the last couple of plays of the second quarter and leading 35 to 6-wire Francis might have the rest of the afternoon on we better put a good day 12 by the 21 170 yards three cuts down Mike Thomas out of course 225 fumbled I believe after the whistle mate right coming up quickly to smother that player John Riggins going now to lead third down and a good seven and we have run out of time Minnesota just about kept the ball throughout the third quarter girl we got 15 minutes left here at the met as far as Washington is concerned thirty five six Vikings now at a theater near you you can see the most exciting original motion picture event of all time [Music] King Kong rated PG check newspapers for a theatre new you there are a lot of small cars to choose from but Ford Pinto stands alone as the best-selling small car in America Pinto outsells Vega Chevette Datsun b210 Toyota Corolla everybody dental has the low price reduced scheduled players in cooperation with the USO spend several weeks on a goodwill tour in the Far East more than 100 NF L players have made the pit since 1966 it's just part of the USO to work and it's made possible through your support of the United Way thanks to you it works for all of us the United Way the preceding announcement brought to you as a public service by the National Football League Gilmer over the right side and tended for Mike Thomas and he just threw it over his head and Billy furious at himself they can either look is exactly why it's been a combination guys old Billy's little off target when he is on target they've been dropping the football Thomas right over the middle wide open way behind it incomplete fourth down let's kick it now you see Billy going the other side of an incomplete event I love it from the 25-yard line they have run out of steam so Mike Bragg will have to punt it out of there Leonard Willis standing on his own 35 up in front of Autry Beeman in Sandy white and it's heading down the left side Willis in pursuit and it goes out of bounds Hill spotted at the 41 yard line where Washington will now see Minnesota footage in play and it seems like that's about what Washington's been doing as Minnesota holds on the ball will returned in that's a polycon Stadium after this word from your local station Alice's mother-in-law decides to become a permanent houseguest but Alice has other ideas tonight on CBS you for Minnesota they take all the first intent on their own 42 and at the wheel Bob Lee and over in the sidelines Fran Tarkenton taking a well-deserved rest he has called a tremendous team for Bob Lee out of the college of facility gets a chance to get his feet wet gives to McClanahan and a hand burger grabbed him by the shirt and brought him down that's the first loss today by Minnesota on a rushing attempt Bobby Lee 15 out of 30 on the year so he actually hasn't seen too much action in all Minnesota's first three quarters been they put together 351 yards in offense and talking and calling some magnificent plays he really has been the general today but bad handoff recovered by Minnesota frustrating Dennis Johnson and Harrell McClendon they thought they might have had a pop at it but the ball bounced right back up to Brent McClanahan that's the second time McClanahan has gotten that bunt say by the way you can add too many talented Dick Van Dyke to those that Carol Burnett and her crew and you have a truly delightful hour be sure to share it tonight at 10:00 p.m. 9:00 central 13 18 on the Viking 34 yard line Sammy white right Rashaad left Lisa McClanahan and he bumped into him on the handoff so you can tell they're a little rusty was in there was a handoff with a block attached to it well if we could not too many big mistakes let's run free plays and keep the ball on the ground it eats off another minute pass that clock Atlanta Han going out along with shut Foreman Foreman has rushed for 93 yards and McClanahan for 91 and an unusual sets up woman has not caught a pass forcing 12 from the Viking 39 yard line Neal clay ball will be kicking to Eddie Brown who's standing on his 25 why didn't he get one off Brown going back with 15 to field it looked away from McNeil demon hits in he gets away from demon and he finally dragged down by Sammy Johnson Johnson along with Hamilton on the special team and Autry demon who took a lick from Pete Wysocki is really shaken up here so at 12:34 left to go in the ballgame it is Minnesota 35 when the Redskins six oh boy most of the CD brands I never heard of where do I start I see now that's a dependable ring well that makes it easy I'll get the one from the communication bedskirt baby is by RCA Thank You tactic scoring play by that New York Life comes away at 10/9 central for this edition only tomorrow night Fran Tarkenton talking to Bob Lee on the Minnesota side line thirty five six Vikings twelve and a half left to go on the game and his first in ten Washington from their own 15 Jim Marshall was moving on the play the pass complete to the 35 yard line to Roy Jefferson and let's wait to see where the Marshall was drawn off or not but he was flying and off the ball very quickly there's Roy Jefferson who is caught the pass would it be a first down they'll find that penalty 18 yard pickup on the play here still Maris play-action that's Calvin Hill in now one of the running backs comes over the middle those flanker Roy Jefferson who holds on he stopped by Wally he'll convert well looks like the bike is going to be back home here next with used first down the Jim Marshall was offside naturally the penalty refused first and ten on the 35 yard line Frank grant to the left Roy Jefferson to the right you get the tight in on the right side Gilmer over the middle to grant read by Brian and Klaus and in Minnesota holds a team meeting on his body tackle by the defensive secondary of the Minnesota Vikings looked like a team picture I was going to say the Vikings will be playing at home the winner of the RAM cowboy game who you like in that game there I like them both he likes them both right clever huh I tell you that Hayden we understand from Tom Brookshire and Pat Summerall at half time he's going to get the starting nod I like that young man he does a great job Vikings I mean the Cowboys with Rogers father can be a quite a battle right here tomorrow EPA bursting down on the Viking 48 cylinder to John Regan Riggins with Nugent in front of him gets across the 40 before going out of bounds at the 38 yard line Nate Allen along with Winton Hall pushing him out Riggins in the first half rushed for one yard and so far prior to this carry it took a four more it's a good cut here John Riggins would have liked to carry the ball 20 to 25 times and the reason for that Billy Kilmer told me if he can run the football 20 to 25 pounds we're going to be in the football game it's going to be a close one and we'll we'll have control of it that did not happen to them how he's carried for six times and they're not in the game definite one from the 39 donor to do get and it's broken up Bobby Bryant all over the big tight end to knock it out 11:37 to go shooters again square out on the left side Julie's looking left all the way Bobby Bryant balls up in the air just a little bit too long tenant for jeans cute
